Coffee House: Page 10

I’ve read a lot of comments maligning Jin-soo, but I’ve got to say, I LOVE him — as a character. As a person, he’s frustrating and selfish and infuriating, but as a character? Rich, complex, and intriguing.

He’s showing a lot more depth than we could have guessed at the start, when he was all smiles and politeness and pure facade. And I love dramas where relationships continue to evolve, as they do here.

PAGE 10 RECAP

After Jin-soo collapses in his studio, he’s able to muster enough strength to jot down a few notes to Seung-yeon, directing her to fill his prescriptions. In a panic, Seung-yeon races to the hospital to find his doctor, fills the sleep-aid prescriptions, and dashes back to the studio.

(I’ve been trying to let it slide, but it’s getting a little out of hand, so: Good lord that girl runs like an idiot. I’m sorry to say it like that, but there’s no better way to put it. I’ve defended Ham Eun-jung’s acting in this drama and found it perfectly serviceable, but she’s been slipping in recent episodes. That exaggerated run does her no favors, either; it’s like Mi-nam’s Kindergartner Run in You’re Beautiful, but even more exaggerated.)

But back to the point. She brings the pharmaceuticals to Jin-soo, who gets to work injecting himself with an IV. Seung-yeon is startled at his facility with drug self-administration, until he reminds her to give his profile a closer read. (She recalls that he went to medical school.)

We’re not told exactly what Jin-soo’s condition is, but since he’s using an IV and he seems fatigued, I presume that he’s suffering exhaustion, exacerbated by skipped meals, dehydration, and extreme stress.

When Eun-young calls, Jin-soo doesn’t want to answer, so Seung-yeon makes an excuse for him. I don’t know if Eun-young really believes that he’s not home, but she accepts this response with a little disappointment.

Jin-soo dismisses Seung-yeon for the day, which worries her because she doesn’t like the idea of leaving him alone in his condition. By now she knows that he won’t stand for protest, so instead she thinks up an alternate idea: She sends Grandma over to tend to him.

It’s a pretty good idea, too, and shows us that she’s getting to know him pretty well. As she later explains to Dong-wook, Jin-soo is fundamentally unable to be rude to strangers. Therefore, Seung-yeon could try her utmost to tend him and urge him to eat, but he’d just lose his temper and kick her out. He isn’t on familiar terms with her grandmother, however, and therefore will feel enough social pressure to reluctantly do as she tells him.

When Jin-soo finds himself with one pushy granny on his hands insisting that he eat, he calls Seung-yeon, who feigns a bad phone connection in order to ignore his outburst. She hangs up feeling pretty proud of herself and not the least bit sorry to have acted counter to Jin-soo’s wishes to be left alone.

Seung-yeon explains this as she waits downstairs in the book cafe, sharing a dessert with Dong-wook, who is adorably smitten with her. In fact, the other employees note that Dong-wook thinks he’s being Mr. Smooth in keeping his relationship under the radar, when in fact he’s about as understated as a Korean grandma bargaining for discounts.

Sadly for those of us who find Dong-wook the cutest thing ever, this scene encapsulates their relationship in a nutshell: Seung-yeon talks about her job, her mind still fixated on Jin-soo and his illness, while Dong-wook listens with half an ear, more preoccupied with doing little things to win Seung-yeon over. Like giving her a piece of dduk (rice cake) and pumping his fist in victory (surreptitiously, of course) when she notes that he’s observant to notice she likes dduk.

True to Seung-yeon’s predictions, Jin-soo is unable to order Grandma to leave, and sits down at the table to grudgingly eat the spread she has laid out. While he tries to get this over with quickly, Granny asks questions about his life, all the while adding kimchi to his spoon with her fingers. At first, Jin-soo looks at the kimchi in disgust, and reluctantly eats it — but as she continues to pile on the kimchi, he starts to like the taste. It’s hilarious (and a little touching) how this has the effect of retrieving his appetite, and by the end of the conversation he’s scraping the bottom of his bowl and holding out his spoon to Grandma for filling.

Meanwhile, she chatters on, asking questions that he answers in brief replies. For instance, this apartment isn’t really his, although he lives here while writing. In fact, he doesn’t have a home of his own. His parents died when he was in university, so he spends all his time wandering from place to place.

Grandma clucks over that, but she doesn’t treat him with pity; she nags him about getting married, saying that it’s not good to be alone all the time. It’s the kind of thing your own grandmother says to you, nagging over how she thinks you ought to live your life, with the best intentions.

Grandma leaves after assuring Seung-yeon that Jin-soo ate lunch properly and is now resting. When Seung-yeon checks on him, he’s grumpy and accuses her of being crazy to thwart him so blatantly. However, he’s too tired to be angry properly and lies back in fatigue.

Seung-yeon isn’t fazed, knowing that she did everything for his own good, and asks him to call her whenever he’s sick or bored. Perhaps she understands now that he cuts himself off from everyone, not because he wants to but because even if he didn’t, he would still have nobody to turn to. Cutting people off first makes his loneliness his choice, and may be easier to deal with than wanting that company but not having it.

I doubt Seung-yeon understands all that in such clear terms, but she’s encroaching on that understanding, just a teeny bit. Jin-soo calls Seung-yeon arrogant for thinking she knows everything and says dryly that she’s grown up, but her offer to be there for him does make an impression on him.

That evening, Eun-young wraps up work and calls Jin-soo, wanting to drop by for a few minutes to talk. Jin-soo turns her down, acting normal and using the excuse that he’s busy, but she overrides him and says it’ll only be a moment.

Jin-soo doesn’t want her to know he’s sick — if she knew, it would clue her into his worry over her disappearance, and Jin-soo can’t let himself be that vulnerable, no way. So he pulls himself out of bed and cracks open the door to talk to Eun-young over the threshold, not letting her inside, citing work as his reason.

Eun-young takes this in stride, but admits that she felt bad to hear that he had been worried over her weekend disappearance. However, now she sees from his casual behavior that he hadn’t worried after all, and wonders, “I’m the one who was embarrassed and hurt — why are you avoiding me? That’s silly.”

Jin-soo blusters that he’s not avoiding her, then gets rid of Eun-young quickly before Seung-yeon arrives, carrying his prescriptions. He has ordered her to keep his condition a secret from Eun-young, so Seung-yeon hides the medication behind her back when she runs across Eun-young.

Ji-won has done some serious thinking of his own, and calls Eun-young to — finally! — offer her his apology for hurting her two years ago. It’s a little ridiculous that he hasn’t realized what he’d done until now, but now that he has, he’s sincerely regretful and tells her solemnly that he’s sorry. He even accepts 70% of the responsibility for their breakup, which he increases to 80%, then 90%, at her incredulous reaction.

Naturally, Eun-young finds him a little absurd, and cuts him off just as he starts to bring up her relationship with Jin-soo. Flatly, she tells him it was all a show to make him let go, and that Jin-soo’s going to leave soon. She’s going to start dating again (she uses the word mat-seon, which is a blind date undertaken with the intention of marriage). Bluntly, she tells Ji-won that in any case, he is forever out of her life, and hangs up.

I admire Eun-young’s professionalism and her mature personality, because rather than moping over Jin-soo or trying to force her way — hitherto the only two options to the kdrama heroine — she takes action. It’s not vindictive, or angry, but practical.

To that end, she contacts her lawyer and has him draw up a document canceling her contract with Jin-soo. Not only does this release him from her company, it is effective immediately, meaning that she exerts no claim over this book. Her employees are stunned, because to them, this has come out of left field and without explanation. But even though Jin-soo does understand her reason, he’s just as shocked to be handed the papers.

Jin-soo confronts Eun-young wearing a serious — dare I say a little stricken? — expression, and asks what this is all about. This is not welcome news to him, even though it puts him in a better situation than it does Eun-young, whose company would lose a lot more than he would at the loss of the contract.

Eun-young talks to Jin-soo wearing a serene expression, explaining that she has realized that his reason for writing is to repay his old debt to her. She doesn’t want to make money off that. She’d like to dissolve this contract to enable them to return to the way they were when they first met, and reminds him that Jin-soo had been the one to say that she’s a pro at returning to her original state (he means that she’s cool in the face of disruptions and struggles).

She reminds him of how they used to be before they’d become friends or business partners — back when they were acquaintances who conversed well and had fun when they found themselves in each other’s company. He had stuck to that line all these years — that line keeping them only friends — while she hadn’t, and now she wants to go back.

But this isn’t what Jin-soo wanted, or meant, and it’s written all over his face.

Eun-young continues her explanation, saying that it would be nice to go back to their closer friendship, to how they were before his birthday — and the kiss — but they can’t do that. She says that although Jin-soo would like her to be cool in moving on after it, she can’t, so this is the best she can do. (It’s one thing to reboot entirely, but it’s a lot harder to undo a big move like that and pretend it didn’t happen.) She regrets that, but what can you do?

Eun-young keeps that pleasant smile on her face as she parts ways with Jin-soo, but as she walks on, her face grows grimmer and grimmer and she becomes lost in thought, even missing the light for the crosswalk.

Jin-soo, trailing behind Eun-young, catches up to her at the intersection, where he asks in a subdued voice, “If you dump me, what will I write for? Why would I write?”

Eun-young’s gaze grows troubled, but she keeps her tone light as she jokes that he must be awfully content with his success to talk like that, and walks on.

When Jin-soo gets back to his studio, Eun-young’s employee hands him an invitation to a formal event, the International Peace Seoul Awards, asking if he will be in attendance. He figures that Jin-soo won’t want to go accept his award, but hesitantly requests a definite answer — they can’t deal with him agreeing to go and then skipping out again.

Of all the scenes in this episode, this is the one that gives me the most hope for Jin-soo, even though it’s the most mundane, uninteresting one. It’s a purely expository scene to set up the award, but Jin-soo’s response is telling — he looks at the invitation and wonders if going to the event will keep Eun-young from nulling their contract. He jokes that he doesn’t want to be “fired” by her.

Eun-young is surprised when Jin-soo joins her on the car ride to the award ceremony, and he keeps his tone casual as he says that he doesn’t want to get kicked out of his nice workshop: “Can’t we just continue like this? With a bit of awkwardness? Or is that being greedy?”

Jin-soo has spent most of the drama being the one in control, as I noted in the previous recap, so I love seeing him in the vulnerable position for once. It shows us that he does have feelings, even if he’s deathly afraid of them for the most part, and that some things — namely, Eun-young — are worth making a little effort over.

(At least, for now.)

Seung-yeon doesn’t know about the contract cancellation until the car ride over to the award ceremony. Hyun-joo fills her in, then wonders if something happened on Jin-soo’s birthday — up until then, everything had been going fine. Things started to get strange afterward, and Hyun-joo asks if Seung-yeon knows anything.

Seung-yeon does — she doesn’t know the full story, but she did witness the rooftop conversation — but isn’t in the place to divulge, so she deflects the question. Once at the venue, the team gets to work prepping Jin-soo and Eun-young for their parts in the ceremony.

Seung-yeon hesitantly broaches the topic of the contract cancellation with Jin-soo, but he shuts her down. She doesn’t press with him but can’t shake the feeling that this isn’t right, so she next seeks out Eun-young in her dressing room. Jin-soo briefly sees the two women talking on his way out, but doesn’t make much of it.

Seung-yeon tells Eun-young how much Jin-soo worried over her and how he’d taken a lot of sleeping pills. She can see that Jin-soo really cares for her, and worries that this contract cancellation is the product of a misunderstanding.

Eun-young’s eyes fill with tears at this revelation, and the proof that Jin-soo had been lying to her with his flippant remarks and blasé attitude. Both relieved at the truth and frustrated with Jin-soo’s mulishness, Eun-young sighs that Jin-soo’s always covering up the truth, and she’d never have been able to see the truth without Seung-yeon. She murmurs, half to herself, “Were things always a mess with us because we didn’t have a secretary?”

Eun-young thanks Seung-yeon earnestly for her help. Seung-yeon walks out feeling that she did the right thing, that she fulfilled her job as a good secretary, tamping down her personal disappointment (over the imminent reconciliation).

As Jin-soo waits just offstage in the wings, Eun-young comes up to him, now wearing a much softer expression. She grasps his hand — to his surprise — and tells him to do a good job.

When she pulls away, he finds a note in his hand. He opens it to read: “Let’s look for the answer together. Don’t struggle alone, please. I’m sorry for giving you a hard time without knowing you were sick.”

He’s puzzled, but Seung-yeon pops into view and gives him a “fighting” sign, for good luck. Now he starts to piece things together, and realizes that Seung-yeon told Eun-young the truth.

His sight starts to grow out of focus — his surroundings start to merge together in a blur, and the stage lights are blinding — while Jin-soo’s face hardens.

But we won’t know what he’s thinking for a few moments, and I like that the director keeps us at a distance — both physically and emotionally. As he walks onstage to accept his award, fading into the white wash of stage lights, we see him as Eun-young and Seung-yeon do — wanting to know what he’s thinking but only able to see the back of him.

For a moment I wondered if he’d run away again, but he gets through the entire night with nary a hitch, and afterward Seung-yeon gives him a cheery thumbs-up, bubbling over with happiness and excitement.

They’ve all been invited to a party afterward, but Jin-soo tells Seung-yeon to go home instead. When she asks why, he tells her plainly, “You’re fired.”

That wipes the smile off her face immediately, and she’s confused and uncomprehending. She asks why, and he rattles off his reasons in a barrage of matter-of-factness: She revealed something he entrusted her to keep secret, she meddled in his life with “delusions of grandeur,” she acted out of “childish pity,” she broke the trust that he could entrust her with any future secrets, and lastly, she smashed his hope that she might turn out to be a decent secretary after all.

He says all this without malice or even anger, but I suspect his detachment is what makes it even harder to comprehend. He leaves Seung-yeon in a daze and joins Eun-young in the limo as they head to the party.

Eun-young believes things are on the mend, so she’s startled to hear that he has just fired his secretary. He explains that he can’t have a secretary who lies, then clarifies that everything Seung-yeon just told Eun-young was a total, utter lie: “Don’t believe any of it.”

Frankly methinks he doth protest too much and I’m hoping Eun-young picks up on that, but for now she’s too stunned to have any reaction at all.

She looks a little lost as Jin-soo pulls out the documents and now agrees that she was right in wanting to sever their ties: “We’ve gone far enough, and I don’t think any good will come of us continuing to be linked together.” He’ll agree to her conditions.

With a return of his maddening smile, Jin-soo signs the papers, then requests that the limo driver pull over.

Telling Eun-young to have fun at the party, he gets out, leaving two very shell-shocked women in his wake.

COMMENTS

Despite some frustrating behavior by Jin-soo in this episode, I kind of love it. I love that Jin-soo is such a mess of contradictions, but with every layer that gets unpeeled, his complexities and neuroses all feel consistent with his character — they form a maddening but realistic person, and that’s one thing this drama does so well.

In the first half of this episode, I was thinking how very much Jin-soo needs this rude awakening — he needed to realize that you don’t know what you’ve got till you’ve lost it. When Eun-young is the one who wants to cut their relationship, he’s not quite desperate but he is very keen on restoring things. It’s like a prankster who pulls one joke too many and then hurries to explain, “I didn’t mean it! Really!”

But then the tables turn again, and he’s the recipient of Eun-young’s understanding — but worse, her pity. At first I wasn’t quite sure why he had such a violent reaction to this change in her behavior, because even if it’s a little embarrassing to be found out, you’d think he’d be happy to have a good thing on his side. But I believe that the primary operating force in this is his reaction to losing control. In fact, not only has he lost it, it’s been stolen from him secretly by his secretary, and he’s like this big ol’ contrarian who feels cornered and manipulated when things are out of his control.

I have this feeling that Jin-soo is so scarred from his ex-wife’s death that he no longer wants responsibility over ANYTHING in his life at all, which is why he rejects relationships, intimacy, and even a physical home. Autonomy is the only thing he’s got left, and he reacts like a feral animal when someone takes it away.

Plus, this is a recurring theme for Seung-yeon, so I’m frankly not surprised that he fired her. I was expecting it. Let’s be honest, she’s not a good secretary. She’s a decent person, but a pretty lousy secretary. Think of all those dramas with that evil mastermind (East of Eden, Cinderella’s Sister) — and think of his evil henchman. That secretary is the Evil Boss’s secretary because he does every single thing his master requires, and he does it efficiently and without moral posturing. That’s why they’re the best.

Seung-yeon, on the other hand? She’s like the secretary you would send to your enemy — the MVP for the opposing team, if you will. She has been getting a bit big for her britches — for instance, the scene when she hangs up on Jin-soo by faking a bad connection — and pride, as they say, cometh before a fall.

It's the the Fourth of July weekend here in the States. So I don't think I can go into a long post till next week. --@kay, I will address your post from the other recap sometime next week.

I will just make a few quick points. I wondered about DW's age, too. I wondered way before when in older recaps the same people who would bring up the age factor, would also say DW/SY were cute.

It's fine to say the age factor is a problem. But it's not pedophilia. I think that word is overused and incorrectly used in the US at least. I don't know about others. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to a pre-pubescent child/children.

Relationships that we may be squicked out with or are uncomfortable with don't automatically fall into pedophilia. Teenagers themselves can be pedophiles. And a non-teen having sexual relations with a teenager can be statutory rape, but necessarily pedophilia, depending on the teenagers' age and development.

************************

I think EY basically spelled out in episode 10 what their relationship was before probably a bit more than two years ago. JW left two years ago. And I think they may have started the publishing/writer relationship a bit before he left, because of some statements JW himself has made--implying that he himself maybe involved initially with taking JW in.

They weren't in love or had secret romantic harborings for each other. If were an EY/JS shipper, I would rather that it started within those two years, than have them be in love with each other while they were in relationships with others.

Anyway, I don't think that was the case. I've said it a few times before. I didn't see anything definite that JS liked EY during their college days. All I saw was him laughing and turn to look at them while ending his laugh.

It was just a good memory for him. It was a parallel to the situation that he was in then with SY and DW. He is laughing, hanging out with SY and EY. DW gives him the evil stare, and he is intruding on them. In his flashback, JW partly joking, partly territorial, barges in when he sees his girlfriend laughing with JS. But mostly it was an overt, jokingly display of mock jealousy. And I do think they were together at that time because of the way he held EY and she and he laughed together.

JS just laughed along with them.

And that's how I interpreted that scene. And like I said, I think episode 10 basically lends credence to the view that there was nothing romantic between them back them. She said both in episode 7, 9 and 10 that people change. In 9 and 10 she said, relationships change.

And that's what happened. She changed, (he, maybe changed) their relationship changed. It doesn't stay stagnant over 10 years. I don't see how it would lessen JS/EY, should they end up together, if romance only started into the equation after his wife's death and after JW left.

Thanks, JB, for the recap and your insight! Always a fun read!

Lots of interesting perspectives have been shared, so I'll only comment on Seung-yeon's dorky running(since it's been brought up).

Ham Eun-jung strikes me as being a fairly athletic young woman. Consider the physically demanding and complex choreography that she and the rest of the T-Ara group typically perform in their shows. I would bet that she's only running like a dork per the pd's instructions. I guess the dorky running supports the whole "young, spunky, adorable, somewhat clumsy, short-haired, cute girl(usually the heroine and lead) who's a bit short on the uptake(read dense and naive), but has a true and good heart and only the best intentions" image. Go Mi-nam filled similar shoes and also ran kinda funny, as have some other kdrama heroines of late. In fact, Lee Hong-ki/Jeremy ran kinda dorky in YB, too...remember? The scene where he's running into the bar/restaurant looking for the real Mi-nam...those weird jerky side steps? Perhaps to fill the lovable but dorky Jeremy image...?

I was thinking of that early episode, where SY was dropped off in front of her father's coffee shop. After a very brief encounter with DW, she suddenly decides to run after Jin-soo's taxi. I don't recall her running like a dork in that scene. She actually ran quite competently, iirc. Mi-nam ran competently at times during YB, too. I guess it just depends on the particular scene and the pd's whims....

I actually loved both episodes(pages) 9 and 10, as they continue to reveal more and more of Jin-soo's complex layers. I didn't enjoy seeing him stamp out SY's happiness and excitement as he blindsided her with her termination and his seven reasons for it...but as JB mentioned, it wasn't completely unexpected, and she did kind of set herself up for it. I'm really looking forward to the next two episodes, to see how things unfold.

@pipit.
*My Dearest pipit*
After reading your post I was almost persuaded by your arguments concerning Jin-soo and his feelings towards Eun-young, but sadly enough I feel you fall short in bringing this couple closer to a healthy and nurturing romantic relationship.

We the “Logical Bunch”, at least in my case are not rooting for a particular coupling, but we are looking at the parameters that the writer has set in place so far in the story line, apart from that information we do not have anything else more to judge the characters by.

If I was looking for a “Romantic Resolution” for the love triangle at this point, this is all I can say; In the real world people live life's being in bad relationships for many years so in that sense of course Jin-soo and Eun-young can have a romantic relationship, but with their track record we do not know how long can they survive. A romantic relationship with Jin-soo and Seung-yeon, they can also have a romantic relationship, the fact that there is little are or no baggage from their past or at least from Seung-yeon side of the equation will make it easier for them to have some sort of success in a romantic relationship if they were in one (again that is not what I wish to happen, I am just judging the facts here).

As for the reinterpretation of the facts that is a whole different story, what can one draw out of a “ fleeting gaze, a gentle touch, a friendly smile, an unspoken word, a moment of silence” all those things can truly add to the confusion of their chaotic relationship, but unless “He” admits verbally to her or another person I will wait and see whether your assumption is right before giving any credence to your above post at this time.

@Pedo/name callers, your commentary and use of this word only show your ignorance and lack of understanding of this word, and how idiotic your comments really are!!!! Enough said!!!!!!!

@ 99: Well-said!!!
Sometimes people really contradic themselvse ,while keep circling to imply and not get to the point - which they really mean!!!
Rumor is rumor!!! I have seen many photos, old clips and photos of her ( yes, I did my study!!!)

She basicly didnt chage much, but she fixed her teeth which also reconstruct her face fame . As well as she lost weight and chaged her make up style. The only thing she did, I 'd say is the nose. However, her nose used to look all right but the new one does bring out her face feature, which I personally like

And it's not even a big deal that all the K-people do that nowaday!!!
Tell you what? Even with her old nose, she could surpass many idols with her beauty, elegance and lovely personality and much more... There should be a reason why her Ex loved her so much t, when he had so many pretty and talented admirers as well as many male celebrities have a crush on her/or have a very good friendship with her

So it's understandable that a lot of basinging rumors and hatefuness came from jealousy.
I admire that she has been standing strong on her ground
She is who she is!!!
Step by step, she is winning us over with her real charm, and talent as an actress. !!!!

And I just love her ^^;;

Sorry for the typos !!!! :p

@ firsttimenewbie:
Take your time, Dear)!!! ^^
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!

And regarding to pipit 's hypothesis, I personally don't know if they was or wasnt interested in the other. However, she did make her point, which I found it believable ( and impressive for pipit 's observation).

Like you said , the theater situation brought up his past memory bw him EY and JW. They was all smiling , laughing , and hanging out together.
Should it be a plesant memory?
Why did his smile disappear right after the flash back? And he seems lost for the whole time there.
This shouldnt happen when one recalled a happy memory right? He should smile and get back to the present....
But he didn't!!!

I am not saying that Pipit's story is what happening in the drama!!!
However, her story has good reasoning and strong support, which make it convincing and believable for many of us ( EunSoo -ers, perharps?)

Amg1,

Who is the "logical bunch"?

As far as I can tell, we're analyzing and commenting on a drama, and we can try to be as logical about it as possible, but it is still a drama. It still won't measure to our standards of what we find real. As has been pointed out, each of us will relate to different aspects of the drama because of each one of us are different. Every one of us have a unique set of values and experiences. And if one is inclined to lean toward a certain ship, then logic will only go so far as one's opinion will always be laced with some form of bias. Therefore, I think it's a bit unfair to imply that one ship is less logical than the other simply because the views are different from yours.

And please, folks, let's ditch the name-calling.

thanks jb for the update.

honestly speaking i can't really see sy/js pairing. i really see them as older brother & his lil'sister. the ending pairing has to be ey/js because those two have so much past & there is just so much going on btwn them that they just have to end up together.
i love how the drama makes it where you don't really dislike either one of the girls. you like them both & want them to have a happy ending.

i hope that psy would be able to finish this drama. i understand if she doesn't cause of what happened but i still hope she does. i don't see ey being played by anyone else but her. she really brought ey to life. whatever the case i'll support her :D

EDIT (due to incorrect grammar):

Who is the “logical bunch”?

As far as I can tell, we’re analyzing and commenting on a drama, and we can try to be as logical about it as possible, but it is still a work of fiction. It still won’t measure to our standards of what we find real. As has been pointed out, each of us will relate to different aspects of the drama because each one of us is different. Every one of us has a unique set of values and experiences. And if one is inclined to lean toward a certain ship, then logic will only go so far as one’s opinion will always be laced with some form of bias. Therefore, I think it’s a bit unfair to imply that one ship is less logical than the other simply because the views are different from yours.

And please, folks, let’s ditch the name-calling.

Regarding whether JS had feelings for EY from way back then:

My personal theory is that JS probably always had a connection with EY, though not necessarily outright romantic. He probably always knew she was "special" to him because she was a good friend and the only one who can see through him and understand him (it seems that JS even puts on a mask for JW...but then again, JW is a little "speical" in his own way--not a good way). Either that or perhaps he has a fleeting moment of attraction towards her during the college years but thought he was entirely over it once EY & JW got together and he got together with HS (we still don't know which pair hooked up first).

Perhaps JS would make Freud proud in he might have been unconciously had romantic feelings for EY, but I doubt he was full blown "in love" with EY. As much of a jerk JS can be, I doubt that he would've married HS if he didn't think that he "loved" her.

Though, pitpit's theory is still very romantic...abet tragic it may be.

As for PSY's plastic surgery ... why does it matter? She was pretty then, and she's pretty now. That's no basis to hate on or dislike her character or simply to advance EJ's beauty. Likewise, for me at least, EJ's age is not a good enough reason to dislike her or her character as well. These are all so superficial to be bringing into a constructive debate.

Emotionally, I think SY is for more mature compared to SY or EY, but that's my opinion. EY's pretty decisive, but so is SY, and while it may help her to have more foresight, you have to give credit to the girl for doing what she feels is right. It is terribly sad that she has been fired as a secretary, but I suppose if I were her boss, I'd probably do the same thing. Nevertheless, she did what she did because she was following her belief of what is right.

I like this drama. WHy?? cause I haven't a clue what is going to happen! at any time.

also I'm feeling perverse today. Meaning that I 've read all the comments and see why JS and EY would end up together. But I hope they dont! I hope that he is feeling guilty about his wife and there is some other reason than his harboring feelings for her. As I said I am feeling perverse today.

Grandma is/was hilarious! love her..that was one of the great scenes of the drama.

can't wait for the next episodes!

The reason why I love reading the recaps and comments is because everyone is giving a lot of insights and analysis that kept me thinking... so let us try not to bash the actors/actresses by their looks. Bringing up the subject regarding plastic surgery and all, is a little off... I don't think this is the right "venue" for that. Thanks!

Ms. Retta,

Lol. You are indeed perverse. I say this is in a joking manner. Heh. It is perverse to keep hoping that JS should continue to feel guilt about his wife's death. Regardless of with whom he ends up, the guy needs to heal from the guilt and be able to live a life free from the burden of a past tragedy. Otherwise, he might always carry with him control issues and continue to have a strained relationship with both SY and EY and with whomever else that enters his life.

CW, thanks for the info. I hope when JS helps DW to get SY, he realizes that he can do so much or apply his own advise to get EY ^^.

I like SY character if only reading the recap but when I see the drama, I just can't relate to her, perhaps it's due to the actress that I don't think can portray SY well. To me, her act of being cute is a bit 'fake'' and overdo. More, I can't tolerate her following JS/EY to the roof in eps 9. I am sorry, I think the PD just picked a wrong actress to portray SY, to my opinion. Of course, some of you may disagree but that is what I think..

I would rather JS ended up alone than to see him with SY, it will just ruined the drama.

And if he never rids himself of the guilt, then, the drama has just wasted itself 16 episodes. I think setting off on his own might be a good thing for him. He has to be the one to change himself, not some longtime friend and savior or a bright and persevering secretary. EY and SY have done their part. They've given him some push. Now, it's up to him to do the rest of the work---surrendering himself to some self-healing.

Interesting... So now, Jin-Soo/Seung-Yeun pairing is parallel to a 60 yr old and a 20 yr old? (see @100 sleepy). I told you this was getting out of hand...

@114 fangirl@heart
Well, we talk about dresses and hair styles we liked/ disliked when JB posts articles about award shows... And we talk about 6-pks, abs, etc on men, so I don't agree with you here. Because you are a fan you may be more sensitive to comments on your actors, but to say this isn't the right "venue" is going a bit far, don't you think?

Great re-cap JB! So many changes in the dynamic of Jin-soo and Eun-young's relationship! I'm a little dizzy.

I know Jin-soo's a wounded person who needs a lot of heeling, and that pushing people, things and situations away is his ultimate defense mechanism, but no one can keep this up for very long. He's either going to collapse very soon (which he already did once), or get better. Is there a 3rd option?

At the end of this episode, I feel like we're back at Ground Zero, we've gotten to know Jin-soo a lot better, but there's been no change, at least none for the better. How will his character develop? I hope he does grow as a character, and soon.

Also, has someone been brushing up on their Shakespeare? ;)

@ mimi,

i think you missed sleepy's point. i hate to butt in, but to be fair to sleepy, his/her point was that we all have different tastes. he/she mentioned that he/she is not comfortable with age gaps in relationships, but he/she realize and accept that others are perfectly okay with it. sure, the issue about age had gotten out of hand with the mention of pedophelia, but sleepy's statement is not really a big deal. he wasn't making an emphasis on the age disparity between JS and SY; his/her comment is entirely on the subject of personal preferences. to elaborate on his/her post about personal preferences (regarding dramas), he/she even mentioned people romanticizing pseudo-incest storylines while others find the exploration of that angle pretty darn confounding. so, from reading sleepy's statement again, i don't believe he/she was meaning any offense.

@mimi, sigh... what I meant when I said that this is not the right "venue" is that the article is about a "drama" recap... sure, you can comment on certain things about dresses and stuffs if the article is about an award shows... but to comment about the looks of actors/actress, moreso about plastic surgery is i think -- a different topic already...

I guess what Im trying to say is that I think that we should be more focused on the show itself (storyline, characters... etc) and just go to a different forum/article/site if you want to talk about topics other than CH. but if you think otherwise, then i shall rest my case. Its just an opinion.

Peace! (^_^)

But mara has explained what I meant anyways :). It's about personal preference. Age/maturity matters to some but not to others. (tkx mara)

@ Amg1,

I stand corrected on one point: I shouldn't have said you implied that one ship is more logical than the other. I was wrong in that regard. However, I meant to say that it is unfair to imply that pipit is less logical than the other posters here because some people here clearly could relate to her post. To some, her post made sense, even though, as pipit mentioned, her post was doused in her bias for EY/JS.

What we view as logical regarding this drama is still, to an extent, influenced by our own personal experiences and values.

I'll just leave you with a question to think about:
Have you personally commented on this site about a character's appearance, clothing, stance, walk, way of speech, or anything 'superficial' whether negative or positive?

I just think it's rather bold to tell others who have to "go to different forum/article/site" for that when you're not the creator of this site.

Thanks Javabeans for the recap! Was dreading to watch Episode 10 because Im about to ride a roller coaster which I dare not even thinking of riding! But I have to agree with you that JS is a character, thou complicated and ireversably disconnected in many "human" ways I can see he is still kind person.

I say its a mask, hide everything now so he's secured and kept away, for him not to suffer again. I don't think he means it but I think moving himself away from the situations between EY/SY is the way he would like it. An isaland to himself. He doesnt want people to penetrate his wall because even now thinking back 2 yrs ago his ex wife could not handle him, he doesn't think EY could too! Although EY tries very to be in that spot he keeps his space clear of these 2 women. And if he lets EY in just like he did with his ex wife "(hinking back from all those memory recaps) he's afraid that EY has seen too much of him! You can see how much he exerts effort to push everyone away. Keeps the at bay. Making sure that they only see little of his true self. He's a writer and thats how it should be no attachment.

SY runs like she's a little kid! I don't whats the significance of that run? Is there? Then if there's none please run properly!

As per EY, well that girl has a lot on her plate. And Im sure I can feel that more dissapointments are coming her way. Its good that she initiated to loose ties with JS. And the fact she reached out again to him! I wanted to kick his ass but then again EY should understand.

Im not really sure as to why Im affected but I think Im getting too attached to the show and Im pushing for my wants and how I would like to run the show, so for now CH will have to sit in the back for me. PHY death added to my sad mood. Whenever I see PSY I think of how she will cope going back to work. I really want a comedy show to watch till I laugh my heart out..

Suggestion?

@fangirl@heart, I am in agreement 100% percent with you, what we are discussing here is "Coffee House" episode 10 if we start posting our views about ( Hair Style, Make Up, Plastic Surgery, etc, etc, etc, and name calling to boot), it totally sifts the focus of the commentary that we all are trying to accomplish here!!! That's the reason why JB created the "OPEN THREAD", that is the proper place to insult and make random comments about a drama or actor or things not related to JB's original posting. And I do not mind if people get offended by this post!!!! (Please be kind and follow proper Protocol)!!!! : O }

@ kc,

these are not korean comedies, but i have a few suggestions :) one is a very good british show; it's actually a classic among the british. i suggest watching "keeping up appearances." it's hilarious, and just a nice old fashioned kind of comedy. it's kind of old (late 80s to early 90s). another good british show would be "absolutely fabulous." the characters are outrageous and ridiculously funny. the one i strongly recommend (and have suggested before) is a canadian show called "being erica." it's still a relatively new show, but it's very good. you can catch the episodes on tudou.com. it's a dramedy, and it's about a girl who travels back in time---a regret in the past---as part of her therapy. she doesn't change her past (and she's not really supposed to), but she relives a old situation in order to learn from it and apply what she learned to her present circumstances. the time travel aspect can throw one off, but it's a concept that the show has executed in an original and successful manner.

@Amg1 - exactly my point.

@mimi, i don't really know how i can express myself in a way that you won't misunderstand my intentions. But to answer your question -- No. I have not commented on this site about an actor's appearance... you may not believe it, but I can't give proof either... However, I don't see the point of your question as I am not referring to this site in general, but only to the topic of this article.

You are right, I am not the creator of this site, but as a reader, I just thought that its just right for us to stay focused on the subject presented on this article. I don't see anywhere on JB's post regarding plastic surgery... Everyone is trying to give some constructive analysis about the drama and then suddenly you'll find some comments and bringing up topics which are not related to it. I just find it a little off. Again, this is just my opinion. If I have offended you or any other people in some way, then Im sorry.

ehm I may come from a different planet, but can s/o tell me what's wrong with having plastic surgery? I find it funny when everytime someone says 'hey you know, that person had plastic surgery!' wth that changes anything lol I have friend who had done her nose for her work, and it doesn't change anything to me, in the end it's just appearance. I'm friend with her person, not her nose lol I believe everyone has their reason to make a certain decision but nobody has right to judge them when they're no where in their place.

just my 2 cents. ^^

This was something I just thought of ( base on my EunSoo bias, perharp?)

Coffee House is a drama about Eunsoo relationship (development), which happened upon the appearance of SY and JW
Therefore, we (EunSooer) shouldnt be worry about the ending anymore, since this is a rom-com drama.

The more I think about it , the more I like the tittle "Page One".
And thanks to Choufy , who has pointed out that the writer seem to like the ”birthday” in the drama. Do you see the connection there?Page One was to suggest the first page of life, the first page of a new drama; The feeling that each and every day is a first page. It could also be a new progress, a new chapter , a change, a new stage, a new-born hope and feeling …
Isnt Birthday as the same meaning with Page One, like a first day of a new stage in life, or remind you the day you was born,n a new born hope, feeling., new development, new growth...
I believe there must be a reason behind it, when something always HAPPENED on EUN YOUNG and JIN SOO BIRTHDAY, which have lead to 2 important "Page One"s of 2 the significant chapters in their romance development

(1) On EY’s birthday, JS (couldn’t help but ) showed his concern and care toward her for the very first time- which he has been hiding it for years purposely. And She was touch and grateful for his gesture( Thanks to JW!).Therefore, Eunsoo relationship stepped into a new page with new feeling toward each others are about being explored . And since then we have seen JS continued to care for EY ,as it
got deeper each day (with or without her knowledge).

(2)Thanks to SY idea we had a great fake-out, which also lead EY to the next move! On JS’s birthday, EY couldn’t hold herself any longer but make the boldest move – the 1st Eunsoo Kiss, which caused their relationship to change once again. Even if JS wasn’t willing to let’s go in the beginning, but he knows that he had no choice. This is another "Page One"in Eunsoo"s new drama , where both of them may need to realize and face their own feeling; whether it’s good or bad, we’ll soon find out.

However, do you think all these events happened on EY and JS birthday that eventually changed their relationship was just a plain coincidence? Why birthday? Why didn’t they use SY birthday or someone else ‘s instead? And why do their "page one"s of their realationship "new chapters" have to happen on their birthdays? ........
I think this is a hint from a writer
----------------------

And I remember someone has asked:
IF SY WASNT GOING TO BE WITH JS AT THE END, WHY DO THEY NEED HER IN THE DRAMA TO BEGIN WITH?

Answer:
SY character is very important in CH, even if she wont be pairing with JS.
And so is JW character
***Let's look at this, EunSoo relationship might not ever changed IF SY didnt step in to the story and JW didnt come back to pursue EY.***
That also means we dont have Coffee House- the great Drama ^^;; !!! And I am not just saying it . If you have taken notes, SY and JW have had a great influence on EunSoo relationship change/ development

Let's look at the 2 'Page One" which were occured on EY and JS and the reasons behind it!

[ 1st Page One]
Like I said, EY birthday was the 1st page of a " new chapter' in their relationship, where JS began to SHOW/ ACT ON his care toward her.
However, JW is the reason behind it. Without him and his behavior, JS may have never had a chance to " take action". So JW pushed JS , JS acted on Eunsoo realationshiop which open the new page in a new chapter of their relationship book

[ 2nd Page One]
We will never forget the moment, EY made the boldest move - initiating a passionate kiss with JS on his birthday. This act caused Eunsoo current bond broken, which took EY and JS to another "page One " of a "new drama" in their romance.
Nevertheless, EY would never have tthe ball to take that first HUGE STEP if it wasnt for SY. Because SY came up up with the idea of JS being EY's bf to chase JW away, so we could see the incredible fake out between Eunsoo , which also forced EY to face her own feeling in the intimate exchange. So SY had an affect on EY, who took action on Eunsoo realationship, and unfold another chapter in a their romance drama

...... Those were 2 biggest stages in the EY and JS development so far. B
But SY and JW have been continuously pull and push in between their everyday interaction to actuate the change/ evolution (consciously or not)
Ex: SY helped JS run away but also give them a chance to confront with each other on the phone][ SY told EY how much JS really care for her, which drove JS to agree to break the contract with EY] etc...
JW was the first one who brought up Eunsoo hiden feeling on the surface, which force EY and JS face it] [Because JW , JS found out about EY feeling through the photo]etc.......
---------------------

Honestly as much as I love Eunsoo, I didn’t have a problem if JS‘d be with SY at the end (Oh, I lied )as long as EY get what she deserves and the story convinces me well. Nevertheless, since we have only 6 episodes to go with a quite amount of maintaining unresolved issues, I don’t think the drama ‘ll be able to convince the audience with the sudden change in characters as the new love line developed. ( like I have previously mentioned) JS , who hasn’t shown any sign of affection toward SY, but suddenly fall in love with her deeply, that he could forget the girl that he has emotional involved deeply in the last 10 yrs. Does it sound believable to you? Not to me, at least.

So what if they had a mean to vibe together from the beginning ? So what if SY is the perfect girl for him ( which I don’t think so, btw)? We are talking about LOVE. It’s the matter of the HEART-which couldn’t even be controlled or resisted by a human-being, in countless cases.
For those dont think JS 's in love, please put yourself into JS shoes and answer these... (If JS had a choice, do you think if he wants to worry , concerns for EY to the point that he is almost dying? Or sprints like a mad man just to see her face for a few seconds? Or stays up all night at the hospital and hotel to look after her? Or even has to throw away his pride to go back to check on her when he knew she crie? Or follows her around and even attend the big event( that he hates) to save their contract- his only link to hers? And if he had a choice, do you think he couls resist himself kissing her back? Like seriously!!! ) No one 'd do all the actions JS did if hey could control themself right? Too bad!!!JS is a guy that 'd like to take control in all situations, but it seems like he 'd loose all his control power when it comes to... EY. Why is that? If it 's not LOVE?

And for those who think EunSoo don’t have chemistry together, nor he loves her, or he just feels guilty from the past after seeing all they have done for each other. It’s either your version has some issues( SORRY! but you should go checl!!!), or you’re just being IN-DENIAL!!! But it’s your right to do so.. Even JS may not know what he really wants, what right do I have to blame you???

But again, I could be in denial myself too. In your opposite, I can’t feel the romantic vibe between SY –JS at all. Like None!!!N.O.N.E. NONE!!! Nor I could imagine them doing the intimate exchange between lovers like kissing ,or cuddling. It 'd be .....VERY….. ODD. More than anyone, they give me the vibe of siblings, master and assistant, adult and kid, … Or Tom and Jerry, that’s kind of relationship.
So I guess even we watching the same show , but we only perceive things that we believe , that contain each individual value and mean.

I have seen many people said that JS loves/ cares for EY, but doesnt think about her romatically???
Whether JS loves EY romantically or not, you admitted that he loves and cares for her deeply right? Then could you please open my eyes a bit more with your explaination b/w romantically love and non-romantically love. As well as what has JS done or hasn’t done that put him into that category?
Thanks

JB, Thanks for the recap. It's fantastic, as usual.

I cannot even begin to express how much I love this drama. It is a breath of fresh air in its handling of relationships for a few central reasons.

One: The lead female is actually a well-rounded character, and not just a single note that we hear only when reacting to the male lead. PSY is a great actress. Her eyes are so expressive!

Two: There are no bitchy females! Wow. I cannot believe I have found a Kdrama with healthy female relationships! The grandmother is lovely. The secretary is lovely. The two female leads are not only lovely, they actually HELP each other! SY even nudges Eun-young towards JS. How wonderful is that??!

Three: The male lead is a total douchebag. Haa-ha. It's nice to have a male lead that you recall dating at one point and then thanking god that you are no longer with him. JS is a loser -- emotionally stunted, and completely selfish. Even his back story does not save him. Yes, we have seen douchy male leads, but their back stories make them sympathetic beings, and even when they act out and are mean, etc., we know that they have a heart of gold. Here, maybe because JS is inscrutable while playing these dumb games, he becomes just that typical attachment-phobe that we have all, sadly, dated.

Four: The dialogue is so thoughtful. I like how careful the writers and the PD are to make these characters matter. Even that crazy ex-bf 's apology was great! Even that guy who likes SY is given gravity.

It's my first drama since YAB, and I am glad I waited for this gem.

I have a feeling that it will have Que Sera Sera- or Soul Mate- type ending, but I'd be cool with that because this is not a typical romantic comedy. It's the journey that counts here.

Also, if I may say politely: Various Shippers and PSY-haters, I wish you would take your arguments and mean-girl comments elsewhere.

I enjoy different comments a lot !

I would say that the explanation of pipit makes sense. I also thought that JS has been loved EJ a long time. I assumed that so was EJ. But it is not true due to your arguments. The EJ's feeling perhaps started for two years during the time she helps him to recover from his wife' dead.

I remember the scene in the hotel. When he waked up all night to care EJ' sleep. There was a song illustrating for this scene. At that time, I thought that this was a song describing the mood of EJ. But now I think it is exactly JS's mood
........
I love you. Please love me.
I can't be without you even for a day.
I may not be your first love.
I'm very happy nontheless.
Can you see my love?
Can you hear my heart beat?It could be that I loved you even before.
........

If I were hi, it is very hard for me to carry such a kind of mood due to the past, and the guilt....And it is very dark to think the combination of a couple EJ & JS.

However, one cannot perfect, because we are human. I have thought that if we are honest, forgiveness each other, carefulness each other..., we will happy at every moment of life which always exists a lot of obstacles.

The life is always difficulty and complicated. When one meets difficulty, one cannot hide somewhere...Therefore, I believe that JS will rescue himself first in this situation, with the sympathy of EJ, so that two soulmates can connect each other to live their lives full of happy. Probaly I am not young, thus, I always choose the way to maintance the good, long, understandabale relationship, rather that leaves it and begin with the new one.

For SY, I think hat she will be more professional, not confuse between feeling and working, more mature. One day she will success and meets her soulmate.

wow, you guys.

so much thoughtful, passionate, well written discussion, I still haven't read everything but some of the ones that I did gave me so much insight, spelled out bits and pieces of my thoughts clearly, and affected me deeply, especially the one written by, of course, pipit @ post 36 @ the 1st page. Go there people. Now!

Beautifully written, pipit! You took the romantic in me and multiplied it by tenfold and bang,... you presented the level of angst and intensity matched by the likes of Que Sera Sera and [insert other melos worth being angsty about. I've been avoiding those dramas normally]. You are awesomeness, but that is so intense I fear for the Show and I respectfully hope you're not entirely right.

I don't have much to add other than that I'm still on the EunSoo ship (especially After Pipit) but I jump on board to the ship that simply roots for the mental health and happiness for Jin Soo (and Eun Young too!). I'm more perplexed than angry at his actions. While he's cutting away most of his lifelines, and reminding me of Eun Jo the prickly ice porcupine princess of CU (which I didn't finished btw). But, far from wanting to drop the show, I'm fascinated. I couldn't wait to get to know Jin Soo more.

He might be romantically inclined to Eun Young. He might not. Either way she is his raison d'etre, as he confirmed himself. I take Coffee House as a study of the mindblowingly complex relationship of these two. Also a study of Jin Soo, whom, with the help of reading your discussion, I conclude, is a dangerous cocktail of pride, stubbornness, control freak, self-loathing, (maybe denial and suppression), sleeping pills, and the list can grow on and on. Underneath those destructive layers, I sense a good-hearted and decent man (i'm an optimist).

Me thinks the guy needs a healthy dose of humility.

Someone's insightful comment mentioned that his taking off his glasses is a symbolism of his facade / wall being broken, and Kang Ji Hwan's expression on that screencap is amazing. It is the beginning of a page, and I hope it's for the better. I hope he stops isolating and cutting himself away and running off to, I don't know, Ushuaia, or wherever. Instead, I hope he can take the first step to heal his damage because I doubt that anybody else can.

Oh, just now... a burst of pure gut feeling that Ji Won is going to be important.

I also remember one more datail.

His face was serious when he found the picture between him, his wife, and EJ together; and he also becomed dark face when remmber the past scence, when he, EJ were enjoying each other in the bang, suddenly appeared JW. Although he was smiling when JW pushed him away and sat between JS & EJ, but JS's eyes seemed sad.

After the night spending with EJ, JS decided to leave her when he is finishing the book. It enhanced more the argurment of pipit. He is afraid that EJ will be hurted if she found out his guilt, and his emotion is over control.

Before this drama ends, I seriously would like to see JS hugs EY passionately for once! with all the emotions he kept inside for so long, with all the love he has for her ( love as a lover, friend, more than friend, more than a lover or what ever you may call). Crying his heart out for all the sorrow he had kept for years.

If that happens, I will be totally satisfied with this drama and with whoever he will be with at the end.

lol at the comments KJH's character being a pedophile if he ends up with Eun-jung's character. Pedophile! That's too much. But I do agree, KJH looks too old for Eun-jung. He really is old - in age, in character but most importantly in looks! He's just too old.

I am a little afraid of ep. 12. I am not sure what happens due to the interview:

Q: Then like you said, that may lead to how the vibe of the show changes to that of a mini series.
Pyo: Starting from around the 12th episode, the change will be so big that you'll wonder whether you're still watching the same drama. What myself, the scenarists and actors are set to do are not to create something that has already solidified but a show that self develops.

I hope that when JS helps DW to have a date with SY, he will connect with the past scene when he also helped JW dating with EJ,...At that time he was a person totally different now...And the scene start to remind the past so that we can revail more him.

But I am also nervous that the director will change his feelings to SY...It is really funny, but it is hard to say that it cannot happen.

Just hoping that EJ will be happy, and so is JS, and they have a new begining life, eventhough they cannot end up together. Two of them suffer enough. Honestly I am sad indeed if they cannnot end up together! .....

@44 Hannelora
How about in ep11 or 12, things change like this:

...two years later...SY is a pro and is an actively working girl, EY is dating....and then
JS shows up with new personalities, totally a new successful person...they meet again and everything starts from page one...leading us to more guessing and more confusing all over again....

How's that sound? Now everything will be unpredictable because we have all these new set ups. My imagination runs wild, this drama just gets into me. Lol.

Have to mention this, last scene where JS took off his glasses, someone on Viikii commented above the screen saying 'Batman Returns'. Love it. LMAO.

@45 Dara

I hope that it would be like your imagination. It would be great if EJ is dated with someone else, and JS follows crazy with her...

I do not know what happens in ep. 12. I usually think of this drama during the day...It influences a little bit to my concentration on working, haha...

Can't help but agree w JB. SY's run was irritating the hell out of me. I was like.. COME ON, TRY TO RUN IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND STOP HITTING SOMETHING/SOMEONE EVERY TWO SECS.

And despite understanding why JS does the things he does.. he pissed me off big time in this ep. Urghs. But the last scene was awesome and I can't wait for the next episode. As someone said earlier on, the show's magic lies in the fact that no one knows what the characters are gonna pull out next (and I mean in a good way)!

Hi guys, did my theory depress some of you? My apologies...

FYI, that theory scares me to death. But I guess it's bad of me to cast doom and gloom without offering a solution. Okay then, this is how I want EUNSOO's problems to be solved :

But before I start I'd like you to be aware of these facts :
1) I'm a lover of happy ending. No, that's not true. I'm a fanatic! No matter how good the movies/series are if I know before hand that there's no happy ending I wouldn't watch it (it took me years before I finally watched Titanic and Ghost)!
2) I'm an incurable romantic
3) I love strong, intelligent, shrewd women. The one who could also be ruthless when she needs to be.

I agree with Kay that JW, SY and her family are crucial in solving EUNSOO's problems.
But I want Eun Young to be the one to unravel Jin Soo's secrets, figure him out and fix the mess they're in now. After all she's the key to it. They're all hurt because Jin Soo doesn't want to hurt her!

I want her to sit back, put her brain into work and listen to her heart. Starting from her disbelieve at Jin Soo's denial when she said : 'Am I doing the kissing by myself? It takes two to kiss!'

She's too hurt then to see things any other way. But now, in the wake of what SY told her and Jin Soo calling her a liar, she should be able to see things in a different light. I want her to finally able to dissect the real meaning behind everything that has been said by Jin Soo. I want her to see the real motive behind his actions/decisions.

She has always thought that Jin Soo is being insincere whenever he's being nice to her. She's hurt when he said hurtful things to her. And she doesn't believe his sincerity when he was agreeing with her. I want her to switch her logic, apply the 'what ifs' and find out the glaring truth that Jin Soo is indeed in love with her too.

Once she realises that I want her to start working to win the guy who loves her more than anything else in this world!

It's imperative that she told Jin Soo the past doesn't hurt her, that Hee Sook's death weren't his fault nor hers. Yes, he made big mistake by marrying Hee Sook. But we all make mistakes at least once in our life. But we're not supposed to be defeated by our mistakes. We're supposed to learn from them and move forward a better person.

Is it not the right time for him now to take his lessons to heart and finally do what he's supposed to do in the first place? Be honest with himself. Stop deceiving himself and those around him. Life is too short and precious to be filled with deception and pains. She's hurt not because of his past mistakes but because of his present's.

Jin Soo is strong but so is Eun Young. They need to do their impending battle once and for all. Only not in the court room like what has been predicted by everyone else. It's going to be a war of wits and determination to give happiness their loved one.

As being logical, straight forward and honest aren't able to bring Jin Soo to his senses. I want Eun Young to be shrewd enough to play it the way other girls would've played it when they want to set their cap on the man they want. Although Jin Soo did say once while he's taking care of her in the hospital that if she played it like other girl she'll loose her charms, she should've known better by now why he said that.

Yes, she should start using all the old tricks available in the bag and following the advise given in the best seller book titled 'How to Get Yourself a Man!'

She can't afford to loose this battle!!

She has considerable arsenal to support her war. Besides tons of books with the subject afore mentioned, she has SY and her family.

They would be more than happy to play cupid. SY and grandma would be the ones to subtly (or not...) delivering wise advise to Jin Soo. Before long, they would drive him nut with their meddling. And us laughing out loud watching all their antics.

She also has JW at her back and call. The bad blood between these two would offer a number of hilarious scenes and revelation of Jin Soo's true feelings.

And to top it off let' bring in a gorgeous, fealty rich, intelligent, successful, famous and wonderful new guy into the picture for Eun Young!
