Han Ji-hye as a femme fatale for Nylon
by | July 6, 2010 | 27 Comments

More magazine spreads!

Han Ji-hye‘s photo shoot for the July issue of Nylon magazine takes that (overused) concept of the femme fatale as its theme. Her spread is an homage to the 2005 Nylon spread shot by French photographer Jean-Francois Lepage, and she therefore shows an expressionless, cold look in it.

According to one source, Han was involved in the planning stages and suggested this concept, wanting to show an image of her that hadn’t been shown before. She explained that she’s a fan of French film actresses like Isabelle Adjani playing Camille Claudel, and wanted to convey a French type of elegance in the shoot.

Han’s most recent film project was the action sageuk Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds, and she then took on a role in a Chinese drama. She also recently published a collection of autobiographical essays.

    a miss I don’t see cold femme fatale look I see bland all around not to knock on HJH but she has done better shoots

  2. bean

    she’s much more gorgeous than that!

  3. ditdut

    That’s not femme fatale! That’s Dead Mannequin concept.

  4. Cam

    Whooooaaaa…………….O____o

    This picture (Han Ji Hye with her dark black lipstick) seems like it looks so cold and pale — but it’s really beautiful inside her!

    Keep it up! (thumbs-up) =)

  5. peanut butter

    i dont see where the femme fatale concept comes into play but that last picture is gorgeous!

  6. snow

    she looks great in that last picture, but the other two don’t really cut it.

  7. Darcy

    I hope Han Ji-hye doesn’t really believe that Camille Claudel was a French actress… She actually was a French sculptor. Isabelle Adjani played the title role in the movie “Camille Claudel”.

  8. Issa

    She doesn’t look cold and expressionless at all…first pic she looks like she saw a mouse in the corner, second pic she looks like a mannequin. Third pic is the femme fatale face, the red lipstick is a winner.

  9. javabeans

    @Darcy, oops that was my bad, not hers. She said Adjani IN Claudel, not Adjani AND Claudel.

    @ Chuck (from the Kim Haneul spread post):

    There’s your black lipstick!

    As much as I agree that she doesn’t look expressionless as she seems to be thinking something, regardless of the intended expression wanted, she still looks very beautiful in these pictures!

    Especially the last :)

    She looks l ike a puppet D: To me, a femme fatale has…charm, with eyes that show her soul, is graceful, self-confident and in full control of her body? XD But I’m not sure :o

  12. 12 Selli

    However, she looks beautiful, very beautiful, and I do love looking at beauty : ) Okay, that sounded kind of weird XD

    @ 10 Biscuit

    Are there two Chucks here? I haven’t said anything about black lipstick. But, if my opinion is wanted – yuck! Reminds me of someone . . . Morticia from the Addams Family, I think it was. I think it looked better on Morticia.

    I second the “Dead Mannequin” is the real, not-so-secret concept that @3 ditdut said. I think it’s really the positions that bring it out instead of Femme Fatale. Femme Fatale still suggests movement and usually heat instead of cold (in my opinion). Her positoning instead suggests stillness and cold, which is something she said she wanted, but does give off the mannequin concept instead. Brrrrrr…

  15. 15 okdubu

    i like the last shot but.. her hair in the first 2 is erm. ok.

  16. 16 Sumee

    @ javabeans you will not like this
    http://popseoul.com/2010/07/06/it-started-with-a-kiss-from-kim-hyun-joong/#more-79209
    When I read this I just couldn’t control myself from putting it up …you will be loosing interest in the drama if it is true …I am so sure of it !
    “It Started With A Kiss”

  17. 17 Nuts

    I do not think she understood completely the Femme Fatale concept.That is why it is coming across as something else.

  18. 18 javabeans

    Let’s try to keep these threads on topic, shall we?

    But @Sumee, for all the rampant guessing about Playful Kiss, nothing’s final. It’s just a lot of white noise. If Kim Hyun-joong gets it, I probably won’t watch though. Well, I do love the director. But I don’t think I could sit through it even with PD Hwang’s magical touch.

  19. 19 Sumee

    well I am sorry …for posting the link..But yes again just out of curiosity I put it up here ! hope you will not mind much..

  20. 20 osi

    Femme fatale?
    I didn’t see it on those pictures.

  21. 21 oh! tht! chick!

    whaaaat? this is not how femme fatales look…..if they looked like tht they would not be attracting the living, zombies would be their thing….

  22. 22 Biscuit

    @13 Chuck:

    Oh, perhaps there are! I was referring to commenter #9 “Chuck” in the Kim Haneul thread.. quote:

    “what is the fascination with black nail polish? I can understand the “dark look” is the fashion trend this year, but black nail polish is so…well…ugh.

    As an analogy, why not black lipstick? or black blush? ugh…”

    And I couldn’t help notice the black lipstick in the second photo! :D

  23. 23 kitkat

    femme fatale – NOT. more like a member of the Cullen family…

  24. 24 Maggie Y

    They don’t look like her!!! She looks totally different. DOn’t really see the femme fatale concept going on…..

    But nice photoshoot. LoL

  25. 25 belleza

    @Issa,

    “She doesn’t look cold and expressionless at all…first pic she looks like she saw a mouse in the corner, second pic she looks like a mannequin. Third pic is the femme fatale face, the red lipstick is a winner.”

    Agreed. I think she did a faboo job in all 3 shots.

  26. 26 chajjye

    @Issa: lol, mouse at the corner.

    @kitkat: cullen family…wahaha.

    i think she looked too pale though. only the third was a femme fatale. :)

  27. 27 chuck

    @10 Biscuit, @13 Chuck

    I’m the “Chuck” who comment on the KHN spread. I’ll guess I’ll go by “chuck” now (with little “c”). But it’s nice to see that Chuck agrees – the black lipstick doesn’t work well…

    Black is a nice fashion color; alas, it doesn’t go well on the lips (or nails!)
