happy friday everyone!

i'm also sad about coffee house ending, but it lost me a little at the end; i wonder if it would have been better to watch it in one go. since i'm so short on time these days, i've started watching a lot more dramas as they air, and it really changes the experience. you think of them more as productions, as you hear about casting news and airing news, as opposed to a complete universe you're delving into when you watch it all in one go. and you think of them in blocks of two, as they come out, as opposed to 'the beginning was slow but then this chunk was really great you just have to ride out these slow parts', or something to that effect.

over the last 6 months to a year i've been consistently watching a kdrama as it airs, as well as others, so i think i'm feeling a bit saturated. time to take a break, maybe watch some english shows, some more jdramas and twdramas. i'm hugely excited about gumiho, but i may wait until at least half has aired. not to mention, i feel like some cartoons/anime, some of the 90s stuff. i'm planning on watching freakazoid next week, and then maybe some big wolf on campus. <3

hope you're all healthy, and happily addicted to some drama or other!

hi Friday!
This week I finished CH with a bit disappointment. This drama started delightfully and won my heart, I was on Jin Soo-Eun Young ship and believed in their ending together from the very beginning but even when they ended up together for real, I didn't feel fully satisfied. I think if there were 2 eps more, the ending would change the other way because the storyline really fluctuated a lot and I can hardly say what it is.
I drop Baker King, too.
This week I have to suffer some stress, I still keep failing in finding a bank job. Applying, testing, interviewing... it seems be an unstoppable circle.
After this weekend, the new month comes, I hope I will pass the exam I took this Monday.
I check They Kiss Again and felt for the kisses they did, wonder if Kim Hyung Joong can kiss passionately and beautifully like that or not?

Happy Friday!

But I feel like my weekend is ending before it even got started properly! Will be hanging with some friends and spending the rest of the leftover time cleaning up, writing and sending several belated birthday cards, thinking about what to get for belated birthday presents for my friends, and reading up on this topic for work that I'm only barely grasping.

But I had a great weekend last weekend just catching up on the new season of Hotaru no Hikari. The goya had me cracking up like crazy!

Happy Friday!

Still in BUUUCHOOOUUUUUUUU!!!!! mode. HnH makes me laugh like crazy. It's interesting also cuz tho I know Hotaru and Buchou are OTP, a part of me gets sad when her plans with Makoto get foiled. Not because I actually have second-lead syndrome or anything.. but just cuz she's so freakin cute and awkward while 'pursuing' him. i think i have a serious girl crush on ayase. Thanks a lot @ockoala.

@ Gigi

Are you loving it too?

I think I'm with a lot of people when I say that I can't wait for MGiaG to start. The trailers look so cute and the concept seems funny.

Hi and happy Friday... I just started The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry this week, and it's a riot. Lee Shin Young is a hoot, and the acupuncture doctor is hilarious--I love his biting-my-lips-in-excitement face. (There are too many scenes with needles, though.) How did I miss getting on this bandwagon while it was rolling?!

For k-movie fans in Toronto: The Good, The Bad, and The Weird will be showing at the Bloor Cinema from Aug 6-12.

@ Gigi, oh, yeah, we're keeping on .... sorry you are stuck in the hospital all weekend, but are you ready to go on with episodes 7 & 8 of Last Scandal? We can slow the pace over the weekend if needed and just do one episode a day or skip a day even, it's just fabulous to have someone to watch with.

Sigh, going to re-start Hotelier tonight and give it a fairer shake. :)

Hello.....just new and dropped by...is this a thread for 'regulars'?
Helllo to everyone...I usually just read the reviews quietly.. :-)
I am also quite glad that CH is over...loved the acting but the shippers 'war of words' was more stressful than the actual series...not here but on soompi and viikii.I am fairly new to KD so wasn't sure if having such passionate viewers was the norm.

How come no one wants to watch Gloria starting this weekend? It has solid casting whose previous credits includes Family Honor,Smile,You,Ob/Gyn,Heart of 19 and the kid from Stars Falling From The Sky..

Now I don't claim to be a KD expert as I have only watched probably less than 25 dramas compared to years of KD from some people.

Like I said I just popped by for a gander...usually drop by for the drama recaps which I enjoy a lot.

Oh and a favour....does anyone have a copy ?MU of Smile,You ep 26 on their PC?I'm repairing broken links and absolutely cannot find a clear copy off the normal sites. Thanks muchly....the whole 45 episode is getting fixed (by a team).

Have a happy weekend to you all.

Hey everyone! Happy OT Friday!

So I see that I'm not the only one thattt feels a little "?????" about the Coffee House ending. I really don't have much to say besides, Kang Ji Hwan yet again won me over. He is officially on my "I Hate that B$stard" list! I mean how can that man be so sexy, so talented, so...
The ending was one that "I'm not sure what about it I'd change therefore, I'm ok but somehow not satisfied..." It was a good drama and I enjoyed it overall.

Anyway, I was wondering about the Jodorama "Orange Days." I've seen it mentioned here in the past but I've never thought about giving it a chance. But I am about to venture on a few days without guaranteed net access so I want something new to watch that will be pretty decent. I read the synopsis and it sounds like a classic drama but I'm not sure... I don't really need a play by play just an indication that its worth my time and will keep my interest. I trust you guys so let me know!
Thank you so much. Oh and is anyone watching Guminho Child or Giant? I'm interested in those two as well.
Have a great day everyone.

I haven't watched Giant but the people working on the series over at viikii are enjoying it...a totally different story from CH...which frustrated everyone. To overcome my angst....watched My Girlfriend is an Agent with KJH which was a hoot. That made me return to CH ep 17.I haven't watched ep 18 subbed yet...post traumatic stress syndrome from the earlier episode.Maybe next week I will be able to watch it.I know the ending...and no I am no a EY or SY shipper.

Happy OT Friday everyone!

So I marathoned ISWAK 1 & 2 last week and here's my verdict: Not the best drama in terms of characterization and storytelling, but the chemistry b/w the OTP is worth it. Joe Cheng is the PERFECT Jiang Zhi Shu and Ariel Lin is a very cute Yuan Xiang Qin. I can proudly say this is the first TW drama that I didn't drop after the first episode. Need to start looking harder for the good ones now.

Also, it boggles my mind when I think of how (or if) Kim Hyun Joong will live up to expectations of Naoki/Zhi Shu. Waiting with trepidation and snark reserved on the side...

I also watched Tatta Hitotsu no Koi which I LOVED for its simple, dreamy, and sweet storytelling and the cuteness of the OTP. I'm now currently watching Hotaru no Hikari but I can't seem to get into it. I don't why...maybe because I can't buy into the OTP right now and I kinda keep wishing Hotaru would stop being so dense and just tell Makoto how she feels...or maybe because the story tends to drag in some parts even though I'm only on episode 3. Hopefully, it gets better soon because I'm not willing to drop it yet...

Going back to college in a month. Really hope I can last until then.

So this weekend one of the meetup groups I'm a member of is having "KOREAN STREET FOOD NIGHT" where they will be serving Korean street food inside the restaurant.

"Hi Yoshi,
My name is Lisa, chef and organizer for “lets cook and eat
tampa” we are having Authentic Korean street food and Korean
style Karaoke night!
All the foods that we are having will be same as the ones you
find walking down the streets from Dong dae moon shi jang
(popular market) the karaoke is korean style, but we have
korean, japanese, filipino, vietnamese, chinese, American, few
spanish, and Tai songs available.

This event is very rare and unique, and you are invited to join
us for this event. RSVP is a must.

we are having,

Mung Geh this is a cousin to a sea squirt. that's right i said
sea squirt. its eaten raw sashimi style dipped in spicy
garlic/vinagrette gochu jang (pepper paste) called cho go
chujang. its a delicacy.

steamed squid, other sashimi, and conch all dipped in cho go
chujang. sauce is served on side.

Duk boki (street style, many korean restaurants have this dish
but they like to dress it up with cabbage and other veggies to
justify their price but we are going to have it 'as is' this is
the most popular street snack especially among hungry students.
it is rice cake covered with a red pepper paste sauce. a little
spicy, sweet, salty but very yummy with a texture of ...um...
rice cakes.)
Oh deng and goog mul, is fish cake soup but the fish cake is on
scewers dipped in seasoned soysauce and goog mul (broth..soup)
is drank in a small cup. Great especially when cold outside.

Bbun dae gi. um...HOT DELICIOUS AND NUTRICIOUS silkworm larve.
served hot and spicy in paper cone cups. we are going to do
this the 'fear factor' style. some people absolutely love it
and some people (women....) run away. well, i say just try it.
its protein.

Soon Dae korean popular blood sausage. its actually very good,
you wouldn't have known there was blood in there if no one told
you. the flavor is mild and mainly veggies noodles and rice in
a sausage casing. its good. it is served with steamed pig
stomach...... that's right we'll do this fear factor style as
well.

tempera (veggie/swet potato) its tempera
seafood pancake

much of these street foods are also drink foods. goes well with
soju, a korean national alcohol. lots of street tent bars serve
these foods with soju. We will be sampling 5 different
kinds. The event will be held at http://www.ricetampa.com you can
RSVP via email to letscooktampa@yahoo.com July 31st 8:45 pm to
1am. This is a private event and is 25.00 per person. Please
RSVP with your name to be on the list. Come meet people and
experience Authentic Korean Street food!"

Re: Orange Days - it was one of the first jdramas I saw and I remember loving it. It’s not as fastpaced and laughoutloud hilarious as many of the jdramas now, but it has a very sweet whimsical tone that makes you want to keep watching to find out how the characters end up. If you enjoy stories about friendships (like Nobuta Wo Produce), then I think you’ll enjoy it.

Re: Coffee House – Did anyone else find the director’s use of frames really interesting? Not just in the flashback sequence where everything was made to look like a comic book, but for example:

- The scene where SY&JS are arguing – it’s a split frame and he shrinks or enhances the boxes to show who’s winning the battle
- When SY is waiting for JS are the studio...he uses the 2 frames …one is where she keeps waiting..and one where JS actually comes – what an interesting way to show the two scenarios going through her mind
- He often uses it during a conversation to we see both character’s (or multiple) reaction to something

I just thought it was very clever and definitely adds a unique style to this drama.

@notoriousnoona -
Loved Orange days...made me remember my college days. Apart from being the story of friendship there are two lovely love stories there. I loved all 5 of the leads and enjoyed both love stories. I loved the way they stick together and eventhough main lead is physically challenged, she is treated no differently than others.....................I loved it.

Not going to spoil anything for any Bad Guy followers, but episode 15 left me at 'WTF'. Of course I was too impatient to wait for any subs to gain a full understanding with my limited Korean. I hope the following series of unfortunate of events will be more twisted and dramatic for a great ending. I'm really interested to hear from Javabeans and Girlfriday's POV next week.

In Paris, revisiting my bookmark pages. Oh man...I love it here but I miss my weekly drama fix lol. Took me a lot of time to get youtube to work (due to the outdated Flash application and the AZERTY keyboard) so right now I can`t even think about watching shows. Dramabeans is all I`ve got to fix the itch, :(

@notoriousnoona

Saw Orange Days about a year after it debuted; it starts off a bit slow but the pacing picks up once the friendship and romance ties are set. It`s an excellent show if you don`t mind being invested in melodramatic portrayals of a love story...

...and I would say more but the keyboard I`m using is slowing me down. Lol. But yeah. Give it a try!

Happy Friday everyone!

JB, i've noticed that your header has stayed on JGS for a while now - I like! Aren't they supposed to rotate every so often, though?

Speaking of, has anyone watched the J-dorama Kimi Wa Petto? I tried to watch it but couldn't get past the first twenty minutes - it was a bit too ridiculous for me. Does it get better, or should I hold out in the hopes that the Korean movie will be better?

@mellowyel must be something with your settings? mine is changing when I refresh the homepage.

@Natalia, favorite crying scenes? hmmm...I tend to avoid melodramas and skip or look away from crying scenes in the dramas I do watch.
The crying scenes in Loving You a Thousand times were epically bad - especially those of Lee Soo Kyung's character's family, eesh!
Favorites? [Coffee prince and Dae Ja Geum SPOILER]
Coffee Prince after break-up scenes just broke my heart. so did Dae Jang Geum, especially when Lady Han was dying
[SPOILER END]

Anyways, Happy Friday everyone!
I'm going to be driving for 8 hours (4 hours each way) tomorrow to take the IELTS test. working till 11p.m. tonight then leaving the house at 4:15 a.m, yippee! [not]. Then another 4 hours Sunday but this time I'll be going on vacation with my sister and sister-in law. supper excited!

kind of in a kdrama slump at the moment - weaning myself from marathoning the dramas and watching Return of Ilijimae and Queen Seon Deok slowly.

ok, true story

made a comment on YT requesting some music info. Gets positive response..YAY!
Chat back and forth and then! recommends a movie......Secret......(not with the ever gorgeous Cha Seung Won) this is Taiwan movie.
How could I have missed this one?!?!?! it joins my favorites.

Glad CH is done. Sorry I didnt like the pair up and while it was fresh and fun it got stale and bogged down. These are MY thoughts, go ahead shoot but I will duck.
I dont know it just failed for me in the end and again I wasnt thrilled with the pairing.

Bad Guy...I dont care anymore, just looking at KNG and KJW. Anyone but me think the women in this drama lack fire? spark even? oh wait there is Jae In's sister but still.
The mother ? even the mother in Hana Yori Dango had more maternal instinct.
Again, is it just me, but lately it seems like everyone but the actors wander off midway the drama. At least with BG you can see ( WC) why it slowed a bit.

OK...enough with all my sunshine....lol lol ...Everyone have a nice week end.

@28 Christy

where!?!??! I was looking in the local AMCs around LA and have not found anything :( Last I heard it was looking at an end of July release in the States...

@26 mems

keep with HnH - it's super cute. I understand your frustration though. There were parts where I was like JUST TELL HIM!!! (even when I'm rooting for OTP the whole way). But that's part of her charm - she's totally cool and collected about work.. but the second her love life is involved, she's a complete 180 mess :)

i'm hoping that if playful kiss will go into college years, then they'll include Christine subplot and cast a full European or European-American actress instead of switching to mixed or giving her a different race. I also hope the actress will be a brunette but that's too much to ask for isn't it?

Have you watched Autumn's Concerto? It's angsty and melodramatic , but for once there was a good reason for a character to suffer amnesia. Also, Vaness Wu's acting has greatly improved, and he has some wonderful scenes.

Anyways, I usually lurk, but lately I crave some good revenge drama like The Devil or Story of a Man, and who better to ask than you guys?

I haven't seen many melodramas, the question only came up because I'm watching Bad Guy and I love how the actors always cry while eating. I've been watching a lot of Romantic Comedy dramas I got sick of them so I'm testing the waters of Melodrama. :\

I haven't seen Loving You a Thousand times.....yet. XD

I definitely loved Coffee Prince. The crying was authentic especially when Choi Han Gyul confessed his feelings for Eun Chan as a "man". That scene always gets to me.

oh no no no, let's all get in line behind celestialorigin who called him back when we divided up J-boys. But Lordy did you get all shivery with tension when he sat in the hallway with Hotaru and you know he's totally falling for her madly and she stupidly uses him to test out her lobulobu texting skills. Seno is a million percent WIN. I loved how he just flat out told Buchou that liked Hotaru. But we know it's good angst bc our OTP is so strong that I'm totally onboard with his second lead.

I thought the goya incident couldn't be topped for hilarity, and they continue to make each ep better than the one before. Anyways, I bet my dollar Mukai Osamu gets a leading man role next. This is a breakout performance.
