Ajusshi attracts 1 million viewers in first week

Won Bin‘s latest project, thriller-action movie Ajusshi (English title: The Man From Nowhere) released last Wednesday and looks poised to become a success. In its first week it beat out Inception (and also Salt, Toy Story 3) to take #1 at the box office with 1 million admittances.

Its first day (Wednesday) recorded 130,000 admittances, and the movie had solid word-of-mouth going for it all weekend, with sold-out screenings in many theaters. The movie centers around a secretive loner (Won Bin) who is drawn out of his reclusiveness when his next-door neighbor, a young girl, is kidnapped by gangsters.

It’s hard to believe that this is Won Bin’s first film as lead actor, but it’s true. (Even in movies where he played a pivotal role, such as Taegukgi and Mother, he wasn’t the main lead.)

Now, when will he come back with a drama series?? I sense that he’s going to be sticking mostly with films now, but one can always hope.

I went to go see it this week with a friend. The movie was a lot different than I was thinking it was going to be, in that it's mostly just a string of really gruesome fight scenes. Don't get me wrong, Won Bin was awesome, but there wasn't a lot of talking. Or story. Still, it's worth seeing just for the scene where he cuts his hair...just beware if you have a weak stomach.

Thanks very much for sharing the update. It's good to see Won Bin steadily and successfully transforming himself as an actor.

My burning question is . . . WHY doesn't he wanna do dramas? :(

My hyperactive imagination tells me maybe he has trouble with showing "love" emotions (as there's always some kind of romance in kdramas).

Like Ren Tsuruga in Skip Beat, hehe. . .

javabeans, I doubt if you have seen Won Bin's movies. He is one of the four leads in Guns and Talks, one of the two leads in Taegukgi, and one of the two leads in My Brother.

More correct to say is that The Man From Nowhere is the first movie of Won Bin where he is the only main lead.

Yes, that's true. I have seen Won Bin in movies, but I think it's worth pointing out the detail because the Korean press keeps reiterating that this is Won Bin's "first leading movie role."
