Judo champ Jung Kyeo-woon
SBS’s sports-medical series Dr. Champ is set at the Olympic athletic training facility, and thus the athlete characters are at the elite level. That means that Jung Kyeo-woon (Loving You a Thousand Times) has been getting busy with judo training in order to portray a character on the national team. Since being cast in early July, Jung has been spending 6 hours a day in the gym.
His character was something of a rising star ten years ago, but he’d been plagued with injuries and is now stuck in a tough spot as the promising guy who never delivered, the constant No. 2. He forms a romantic storyline with his doctor at the training village, played by Kim So-yeon (Prosecutor Princess), who also has a loveline with crotchety doctor Uhm Tae-woong (Queen Seon-deok), who in turn has another romantic thing going on with a swim coach (Cha Ye-ryun).
Jung is athletic to begin with, so his judo coach said that his training is proceeding at a swift pace. Jung explained that he’s played a judo athlete in the past, but he’d never learned the sport intensively, so naturally he’s finding the work tough. Even so, his coach praised his passionate commitment and diligent effort.
Dr. Champ will air following I Am Legend, and premieres September 27.
