Lee Jun-ki’s photo exhibition

Actor Lee Jun-ki will be featured in a photo exhibit, as the subject of a series of photographs called Good & Bye, Boy by photographer Kim Jung-man.

The title is delightfully nonsensical, and features photographs of Lee Jun-ki from his debut all the way to his enlistment this past May. It’s being held as an event for fans who are missing him while he’s serving in the army, and will feature footage from the day before his enlistment as well.

The exhibit will be open from August 20 to September 5 at Lee’s agency, J Company.

I understand now. This is not a photospread.

To compensate all Lee Jun Ki fans, I'll let you know a secret. There's a celebrity in China who's a doppelganger for Lee Jun Ki. His name is Chen Xiang and he's not in the military now.

陈翔. 98% identical.

Chen Xiang and Lee Jun Ki

@ Leona, he hasn't acted in dramas. He's a singer, currently one of the finalists in a singing competition in China.

Also, I'm not hugely addicted to mainland dramas. I'm addicted to the arts. Films, arthouse films, action flicks, chick flicks, historical period films, everything. Dramas, I dig them all. Seriously. There was a period where I watched telenovelas actively. There was even a point where I watched the Philippines remake just because I loved Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae's version so much. I dragged myself through the Philippines version just because I loved the Korean My Girl. I watch everything. Seriously. China. Taiwan. Hong Kong. Japan. South Korea. Western dramas and films.

You didn't have to put yourself down or maybe you were joking.

Direct link to the image. I combined 2 photographs of them.

Also, I forgot to mention that I have a tendency to analyse and observe everyone. I like to compare people and see whether they look alike.

For example,

1.Zooey Deschanel vs Katy Perry
2.Carmen Kass vs Kahlen Rondot (Kass is a model, Rondot was an America's Next Top Model finalist)
3.Yang Mi vs Ayase Haruka
4.Chen Kun vs Lee Dong Wook
5.Hayami Mokomichi vs Dylan Kuo
6.Ian Somerhalder vs Chace Crawford
7.Yu Aoi vs Jung Ryu Won
8.Kate Walsh vs Felicity Huffman
9.John Mayer vs Penn Badgeley
10.Jason Priestly vs James Dean
11.Danielle Panabaker vs Marcia Cross
12.ChangMin (DBSK) vs Zhang Junning (the guy not the girl)
13.Chae Jung Ahn vs Lee Bo Young
14.Cecilia Cheung vs Gong Mi
15.Brian Joo vs Yvonne Yung/Weng Hong
16.Ellen Page vs Justin Bieber
17.Heath Ledger vs Joseph Gordon Levitt
18.Hilary Swank vs Jennifer Garner
19.Leelee Sobieski vs Helen Hunt
20.Kaname Jun vs Blue Lan

There's a lot more. I've got about another 20 to 30 names. I've got an entire folder on my computer devoted to lookalikes. Yes, I'm crazy in that way. If anyone is as crazy as me about finding lookalikes, then just ask.

Please refer to Comment #15 for the link.

Also, let's not start bashing anyone by saying he doesn't hold a candle to Lee Dong Wook.

In my list for China's top actors and top gorgeous guys, Chen Kun is number 1 and number 1.1 respectively.

In my list for Korea's top actors and top gorgeous guys, Lee Dong Wook is number 2 for both. Won Bin's number 1.

I disagree about the dramas. I actually like them more than Korean dramas because at least the majority of their dramas don't have the over-reacting/brash females that we see a lot of in Korean dramas.

Hong Kong dramas on the other hand...not so much.

What have you seen? Maybe you and I are looking at different things.

When you say 'very poor in acting, directing, and producing', I just wonder what you're watching.

China takes all of these things very seriously.

Productions for dramas are like this.

Approximately two years before the airing date. Big budget productions might take up 3 to 4 years to prepare.

1.The script is written.
2.The directors, producers, and screenwriters scout talents and have casting calls. Actors and actresses actively pursue these roles instead of waiting for their agency to say, 'Go and try.'
3.Costume fittings and styling is done to see which candidates best fit the roles.
4.Pre-production photography commences.Cast confirmed. If the drama has started filming midway and the actor is not suitable for the role, there'll be a casting change. Yes, they do it.
5.Filming commences.Production stills released at the same time. Filming usually takes anywhere from 8 months to 1 year for a 40 episode drama.
40 episodes and above take up to 2 years.
6.Post-production, editing, music.. Promotions.
7.Pre-broadcast promotions, promotions during broadcasting period, interviews, TV appearances, write ups,

Let me tell you, there is no other country in Asia who takes acting, filming, cinematography and production of films and dramas more seriously than China?

Every Chinese actor and actress or talent based in China takes up 3 to 6 dramas each year if they're focusing on dramas.
If it's films, they do about 3 films each year. With each film taking up about 3 to 4 months, sometimes 5 or 6 months.

Have you seen Zhang Jizhong's productions? The Huang Xiaoming dramas, the Zhao Wei dramas, Yang Mi's projects,
Hu Ge?

Have you seen Shanghai Bund 2007? That was awesome.

in the realm of romantic dramas, i think korean dramas ranks at the top of all the asian dramas. i haven't heard about a single, great, non-historical Chinese drama (not movie) ever. And I'm Chinese and have lots of friends from China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea (all born there). As for the period dramas, I've watched chinese, hk, korean, and japanese ones. the good ones are able to stand out b/c of their tight integration of the music and romance into the drama. thus, that's why i liked dae jang geum and jumong.

oh and quality is NOT quantity. yes, andy lau has done a ton of films in his lifetime, maybe 5-6 a year. but some are good and some are not so good. i think a good actor/actress will be able to distinguish him/herself by picking the roles they want, not b/c they want to throw themselves out there.

and i fail to see what the relationship is between the film academy and the movie itself. you listed everything, yet you didn't say what the relationship was.

but yes, i do think zhang yi mou is china's best director. i wish there were more of him!

I agree with you on your first point and second point.

South Korea does produce a lot of romance dramas, whether comedic or melodramatic.

But, I don't think the good ones standout because of the music. Music plays an important part in every drama, it helps describe the emotions of the characters.

Chinese screenwriters have some strong scriptwriting skills.

Zhang Yimou is not the only one... John Woo, Feng Xiaogang, Chen Kaige. Their films are brilliant.

I think I may have given you the wrong idea when I said they take up 3 to 6 dramas a year. By that, I meant they're simply more hardworking. This is China's system as compared to other countries, Chinese actors never seem to stop. It's crazy, it's hectic, but they're always on the go. Quantity is not quality, like Korean and Japanese actors, Chinese actors try their very best in every project they're involved in. I don't think Andy Lau is a good example to use in the China section since he was born in Hong Kong and most of his work was done in Hong Kong.

I can't vouch for Taiwanese actors, out of the current batch of Taiwanese actors, I only like Ariel Lin, Joe Cheng, Peter Ho, Ady An, Alex Su, Alyssa Chia.

Of course, they do pick the roles that they want. I really think I gave you the wrong idea. They're not throwing themselves out there, it's their attitude towards work.
It's more like they're so in love with the arts that they pursue it continuously. I admire their work ethic. It's crazy.

Korean and Japanese actors allow themselves more time to rest between projects and they take vacation. Of course, besides acting, I know that these actors have to make appearances on talk shows, attend events, photoshoots, get interviewed. Some of them are singers at the same time. It's like that with China as well.

As for the connection between the film academies/universities, there is no direct connection.

It's more like a resume.

Name of actor.
School actor/actress graduated from.
List of projects such as dramas and films.

China's acting culture is so vibrant. There is so much love for the arts. What I'm saying is these colleges practically bred and trained them in the arts of acting, filming, cinematography, directing and so on. They have plenty of chances to practice their skills in theatrical pieces, plays, short films.

Many directors visit these colleges in hopes of finding the next Zhang Ziyi or Zhou Xun.

That's the connection, these colleges train them in acting.

:O I applaud your ability to rant/rave for that long. I can only do like 1/2 of this is length and I rant a LOT. *cookie?*

But I'm Chinese, and I do believe that non-historical/action Chinese dramas aren't as good as korean/japanese/etc. I'm not saying China sucks at making movies/dramas but they only have a few top-quality I-will-never-forget-this dramas. In terms of romantic dramas, most of the female heroines have over-the-top acting or really high whiny voices. But then again, most Chinese female stars have high voices =\

*chocolate chip or shortbread* No... no. Oreos!
Do you like cinnamon rolls? I'll treat you to a virtual cinnamon roll? Do you like it with apple filling or chocolate or do you like it dusted with sugar?

If you're talking about period romance dramas, their voices are dubbed. Those are not their real voices. Something like how animes have seiyuus.

Ladies in the olden days are not supposed to have rough voices or deep low voices. They're supposed to have a high pitch yet speak softly especially when they're ladies of the noble families.

I'm not sure how many you've seen. But, the more you see the more top quality/unforgettable dramas you'll find.

Also, the market for modern romantic comedies in China has only started expanding in the past 2 years.
Yes, in that aspect, they can't compare to Korea or Japan. They don't really do shoujo type of stories.

If you need recommendations, do ask.

It does seem like my statements are pro-Chinese. I live in Malaysia and am Chinese, so I'm Malaysian Chinese. I was educated in Chinese for six years but never really learned how to appreciate it until I was in my teens.

The reason why it seems like I'm pro-Chinese is that I have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture than Korean or Japanese culture or other Asian cultures.

I was not raised in Korea or Japan, I can't speak the languages, I can only understand the simple simple words thanks to my younger sister who's a Korean and Japanese fanatic. She can speak and write in both languages and is even taking Japanese lingusitics examinations and she's currently teaching a Korean student English.

Therefore, when people talk about Korean or Japanese culture, I can only sit back and listen or tell them what I've learned about their cultures from their dramas and films and the news. Also, Japanese and Koreans are in some ways descended from the Chinese, so in many ways our values are similar. That's the only thing I understand about Koreans and Japanese well, that we share pretty much the same values in life.

Wow! You are really into this look-alikes comparison thing! And I do agree with many of your look alikes.

But I think posting all this on a korean drama blog isn't really a wise idea, since most people here will either just ignore or criticise your opinions. Just my two cents.
Your efforts for defending mainland entertainment and its actors are greatly appreciated though, I love mainland dramas just as much as watching korean dramas! Especially nowadays since there's a lot of modern mainland dramas on the market, so it's not all historical, etc :D

Yes, it's not a good idea. I am afraid I'll be banned from Dramabeans...

They probably will ignore or criticise my opinions since there are a large number of Korean drama fans here irregardless of race and nationality. You're right, I too think that what I said previously was irrelevant to what girlfriday posted about the photo exhibition.

Lookalikes have no connection to the exhibition. I just felt like, this time, I had to prove my point. Most of time, I get the lookalikes thing right. Sometimes, two people look similar because they take the same positions or they have the same pose or because of their hairstyles.

I did have one or two misses.. Where I'd think two people really look alike but then after a while, I find that they don't really look that similar. Sometimes, it's not just about the physical appearance, sometimes, two people may give off the same vibe. And if they have the same smile, that makes me think they look even more alike.

Compared to a few years ago, China has a lot more modern romantic comedies both dramas and films now. Previously, it was practically 0.
