On Air the movie?

SBS’s On Air was a successful drama when it aired in 2008, with its rapid-fire dialogue, entertainment-industry setting, and parade of high-profile star cameos. A new movie is in the works that is being described as a movie version, titled Entertainment (tentatively), which seems like a really bad idea in that it’s such a generic word — can you imagine the aggravation of Googling that? (Or since we’re talking about Korea, Naver-ing.)

In Entertainment, an ordinary high school student dreams of being a star and moves up to Seoul, where she takes up work at a room salon (bar girl). She gets discovered and becomes a top singer. The story explores management company conflicts, relationships between station PDs and agency reps, and the “passionate struggles of managers who pour themselves into developing their singers.”

The story sounds completely different from the drama, which makes me wonder why it’s called an “On Air movie.” On Air was about drama producers and highlighted the relationships and strife between actors, writers, PDs, and managers. (The four leads represent each of those categories.) If the projects are related, they’re only barely so. And if they’re unaffiliated, it’s mighty misleading advertising for Entertainment.

Directing the movie will be Kwon Nam-ki of 2006’s Escaping From Charisma, which starred Yoon Eun-hye. It is not yet cast.

Yea....if they were to come up with a new storyline, then i think it shouldnt be called an On Air movie.....though perhaps they thought they could leverage on On Air success....like Iris with Anthea...but anyway a movie without the original cast just dont feel right ;(

Park Yong Ha Shi :(

This is like the Karate Kid... the movie had nothing to do with Karate or Mr. Miyagi. It was a Kung-Fu movie that just borrowed the title to attract all fans.

Park YongHa's passing away was probably the one news that quite affected me gravely, simply because a day or two prior to his death, i was youtube-ing his videos alongside Park Shiyeon [and i was starting to ship them like crazy after watching the MV they made in switzerland!] it was just surreal that he suddenly was gone. (sorry, if that was quite out of topic here. seeing his pic affected me again!)

I was planning to attend his Japan concert again. And then the news.......

I avert my eyes when I drop by my local dvd store and see PYH's old dramas on the shelves.

This reminds me, I still need to watch this drama. Would love to see the late Park Yong-ha and Song Yoo-na as a couple and Lee Beom-soo, I love!

Park Yong-ha... *sigh*

He would have been great in Love Song.
I still cannot believe he's gone...

Park Yong Ha was the only reason I watched On Air.
His death was a disaster.

I was going to say that I'm not going to watch the movie remake because I can't bear seeing another person in PYH's character, and I don't think the dynamics of the entertainment biz can be stuffed into a 2 hours-long movie...

But it doesn't sound anything like On Air. And that makes it even less interesting. Especially when there's a possibility that they're using On Air as advertisement, or worse...using PYH's recent news to get some attention.

I flipped when I saw the title but was disappointed when I read the post...On Air was a really good drama but without the 4 main leads their it doesn't interest me much. I'd figured that if there was ever a continuation it would follow Kim Ha Neul's and Lee Bum Soo's characters since it seemed to me Park Yong Ha's and Song Yoon Ah's characters had a happier ending and since Seung Ah was trying to break into other markets.
