That’s good to see Song Joong-ki and “han-se” on the banner above!
still loving the site makeover! and i eagerly await the next GLOSSARY & POP CULTURE entries
I’m tired:(
I’m also too busy watching old dramas to start any of the new ones – I”m currently watching Story of a Man, Winter Sonata, and Tokyo Juliet (and liking all of them in very different ways), and while I want to watch Baker King, Gumiho, and I am Legend, I’m going to wait until I finish those three.
hey guys
end of the week
but will be catching up on lots of study due to exams on monday
sucks ey
anyway watched i am legend 1-4 and i have to say, such a wicked show, reminds me a bit of anjell from your beautiful (is it from that drama), it looks like its going to be a hit and kim jung eum is fabulous and hot, never knew she can wear hot pants like that at her age (nothing against her age but she looks hot, i said that twice now). it feels like its going to gather momentum and a wave of ahjumma’s in korea will start dusting off their instruments and start playing again,
anyhow finished watching bad guy
felt disappointed
felt like the ending was really cheap and nasty with the incest family plot and whoever says it was a good ending, they dont know what they are talking about, such good directing and acting ruined by bad writing at the end
now watching baker kim tak gu, and it is a wonderful drama, well written with all the typical k drama arcs without the same repetition seen with other similiar dramas, love the leads and eugene looks hotter than ever in that elle shoot she did(it was the elle shoot right)
anyway everyone have a nice weekend and enjoy the sun, ill be studying hard for my exams this following week
bye now
Hello how’s everyone?Just dropped by to say thanks to all the discussions on Hotaru no Hikari 2.I watched it and I am now a convert for this JD.Not any of the others because some of the stories are a bit different. However I love HnH….terrific acting.Absolutely loved it.
Unlike you guys I am actually holding off on Gloria,MGIG,I am Legend and the upcoming Sungkyunkwan Scandals until halfway through because I can’t stand the suspense *-*
So have a nice weekend you’ll all.
Love the new site design! Very chic.
You know, I had promised myself I would wait and watch Gumiho after it finished, because I was trying to wait and see if it was worth it, but…I lost that battle immediately!!! Which is why I found myself watching it last night at like 1AM when I really should have been sleeping. Oh well, LOL! Really happy to have such a cute drama to watch.
Looking forward to Rain’s drama, too, although it makes me nervous that Daniel Henney’s in it – he’s gorgeous but every time he’s required to act on a serious level I get worried, haha!
Am I the only person who wishes that she could be reincarnated as a Korean? I am jealous that some people get to enjoy this stuff their whole lives, whereas I only came into it after the age of 25!
Is there any tinsy bit possible chance that dramabeans might host a recap or even brief review/summary of Baker King Kim Takku? An episode-to episode recap might be tiresome. But you know like a review thing—similar to the one held for Road No. 1.
I think they said NO bcuz it was a 30+ episode.
TGIF Peeps!
August is full of bizarre happenings, and haven’t stopped going on for me. T . T No time to watch new series, sad, I want to know if Baker King is really that good like Gourmet, Dae Jang Geum, or Pasta?
I really want to start on GIAG ‘cos I like the lead actress; she is good in the film My Mighty Princess.
Arrgh~ can September arrive already? Back to school and Playful Kiss will air. Keke~
Hear next week will get scorching hot so y’all stay really COOL ok?
T . T* I still haven’t finished CH. *T . T
FRIDAY the 13TH! *o , 0
Anyone struck w/ any bad luck yet? Muahahahahahaaaa!
I’m rewatching Coffee Prince. So good! So addicting!
i am so friggin excited for my girlfriend is a gumiho, i haven’t even read the recaps. i just read the intro paragraphs where girlfriday/javabeans gushes about it and even though i baaaadly want to read the recaps, i’ll wait for subs!
Subs are out 100% on viikii hours ago!
Good Morning to all!
It seems everybody is waiting to watch all these dramas. I wish I could exercise such patience, haha.
Though, I am proud that I waited until JB and GF did recaps before watching it.
In reply to Portia, your comment made me laugh so hard. I was just talking to my friend the other day about how my spirit must have gotten into a collision course with another and I somehow got switched when I was meant to be Asian hahaha.
Anybody sick? Seems a lot of people around me lately have been getting serious cases of the flu.
Two weeks in post the deadline for applications for Law Training Contracts in the UK and so far, it’s been deadly quiet. A few rejections but still so many outstanding….put me out of my misery!
“I am Legend” – total love for this show. Love the cast and I want to slap the husband and mother-in-law with a smelly kipper. Awesome adjummas and a sexy hot male lead.
I want to watch “Baker” and “My Girlfriend” but I don’t want to overload on drams so will leave those for later. But they are on my do-list as well.
I’m loving Hotaru no Hikari 2 more than the first season. Seno is such a better second lead than Makoto was. I now it’s gonna be Hotaru and Buchou in the end, but I can’t help but root for Seno and Hotaru.
Oh and No Min Woo is hot.
i love Seno too, although i always root for Buchou, Seno is stealing the show imo.
And i agree that this season is way better than the first one
I always liked Seno. Just check out ATASHINICHI NO DANSHI or MEICHAN NO SHITSUJI……….he is cute!!!!
But I know Buchou isgoing to get girl in end.
Seno all the way! He seems so much more caring… I always fall for the second male leads LOL
Usually I go for the main pairing, but I so just wish that Hotaru would go with Seno!!! They have so much chemistry together, especially on Seno’s side! Butchou just keeps on trying to force her to learn character traits of that other (older) lady. It makes me a little disappointed to already know from the beginning that he will get Hotaru.
Seno and Hotaru!!
how bout we SHARE Seno (w/ @celestialorigin sama’s permission, she mined him wayway back)and leave Buchoouuu~~ + Hotaru alone.
That cute little house will be in shambles holing TWO himonos and no Buchoouuuu~~~<3
Mookie sama
With you, I don’t mind sharing,lol
is the drama good? i want to dl this drama but i’m so caught up with my assignments and exams.
T_T
I’m loving this drama
Shoot, I’d take either one – especially if they came with that cute little house.
Friday, Friday!!! How I longed for you! I’m soooooooooo tired!!!!!
happy friday! i’m feeling a bit fatigued with my fiction these days, idky. books, dramas… they’re not grabbing me. i think it’s this summer nothing-to-do laziness, i have too much time for them and it results in overkill. i’ve watched 2 adult eps of takgu and i’m not hooked but for now i’m reasonably interested in keeping going. i’m alternating between eps of takgu and the anime princess tutu! a bit wtf, but seriously adorable also (‘but you know, when you come right down to it, i’m just a duck’). i’m alternating eps until either one comes out and really hooks me, but so far it’s fun! happy drama-watching.
Wow, I haven’t heard this song in years. I love The Magic Numbers! I think I’m going to have to bust out their CD from the pile of dusty unlistened CDs I have in my living room. I need to show some love to my records before I forget I even have them *hehe* Great song, definitely brings back memories of my early college years.
long time reader and first time commentor! your recaps liven up my days
thank you for the song! it’s been a long work week sitting at my desk starin at the computer and that was a nice pick-me-up!
Why are kdramas so addictive? I can’t seem to have enough of them!!!
yah correct….
Just finished HnH2 episode 6 and now more than ever I want a season 3. I know I mentioned it in previous open threads. But the the chemistry and the conversations between the two leads is amazing. These two discussing pregnancy or a baby would be off the rails funny. It is now my must have dream drama.
Happy Friday everyone!!
Looking forward to a weekend at home with the familia
Also looking forward to getting started on My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and Hero to get my KimuTaku fix (thanks for the rec @belleza!). And I believe HnH2 ep 6 is up as well
oh, it’s gonna be a good drama weekend hehe.
hihi! This is my first time commenting here! hahaha though I have been following this website for the past few months. so yeah..hello everyone
I am so loving my girlfriend is a gumiho!squee! Its such a nice change after watching ‘Bad Guy’ and ‘Cinderella’s sister’. I love the light heartedness of it and it makes me smile from ear to ear (: It uses cheese to the best of its ability and I m loving it!
Now to the topic of ‘Bad Guy’..I was so bitterly disappointed. It had so much potential and then it lost its spark so tragically. I want to go back in time and tell myself ‘Nooooo dont waattch itttt!!!’
Happy Friday 13! All
yesterday i was cleaning my drawer and found a red pocket from New Year’s and was about to throw it away when……dum da da dum… i found $50 in it!
Lucky money indeed! But how did I not remember about it and what should I buy with it…
Any suggesttions??
SHOES! A gal can never have enough great shoes.^ , ^
Watching Life is Beautiful a really fun/ touching drama..Baker King, Kim Tak Gu a good drama even though it was bit difficult to get throw the first 3ep…. Just finished Bad Guy and ohh my goood the worse ending ever… And now waiting for My Girlfriend is A Gumiho being subbed..Can’t wait too see this drama..From what you guy’s are saying about this drama it going to bee a fun ride.. I loved You are Beautiful… the Hong sisters are behind it so not many things can go rung…
And a good weekend for all k-drama and dramabeans fans..
Hello everyone
happy Friday! good luck to those are taking final or exam
new semester start next week.
have a good fall semester.
HMMMMMMM, Javabean i missed your old blog
anyway this kind new to me thanks.
have a good friday Dramabeans.
Indeed, Friday the 13th! I was blogging about My Girlfriend is Gumiho, and I had to retype 3 times before successfully posting it, because I kept clicking a wrong button when I’m about to finish the post…and the page reloads. T.T Bad luck!
Happy Friday ^_^
I’ve been lurking in DB for a while now. Time to join the open thread fun =)
Got news on my Buddhist teacher’s passing last Tuesday =( Realized this morning that I missed the finale of So you think you can dance =( Oh, I am also watching and enjoying I am Legend and Gumiho so far =)
hello everyone..
i’m not gonna enjoy my weekend this week. tonnes of assignments, reports, quizzes are waiting for me. but i enjoy reading gumiho recaps. because of Javabeans and Girlfriday, it’s will be in my MUST watch list drama after I settle everything.
and I love this new layout. so cool.
TGIF guys
Looking forward to the weekend? I know I am. The week’s been kinda exhausting, even without my usual drama fare.
Been wondering for a while now, but…are Smile, You recaps officially on permanent hiatus…? I love(d) the drama but somehow never hung on to the end, so I’m dying to know how it all ends, and just wondering if recaps will be continued?
I say this only because Smile, You’s picture isn’t appearing in the current dramas recapping etc, so I just wanted to find out. I’m not trying to force the guest bloggers recapping the series to do the next episode like, right away. Just want to know if it’s going to be done at all!
Anyway a quick shout out to all the guest bloggers here on DB – you guys are the best ever (and of course, JB is the queen of the best) thanks so much for providing me my drama fixes in byte-sizes (pun, unfortunately, intended)! Love y’all and keep up the good work!
And now to watch My Girlfriend is a Gumiho whoohoo! Hellllooooo weekend.
Happy Friday~~!
First of all, THANKS FOR MY GF IS A GUMIHO recaps!!!! I think I’m gonna really enjoy the ride on this one.
Also, I just had a great idea for your next pop culture entry:
COUPLE RINGS!
I got one recently from my boyfriend *shy* and I realized there were a lot of questions about it from my friends in the States. I’ve been living and working in Korea for awhile and have been a longtime drama addict, so I’m following the path in Korean-style dating pretty naturally. However, I think for our international friends out there, this could be very informative and interesting.
Was this a good place to post a suggestion? I figure, since it’s open thread….
rings? Why stop there. Couple everything is on display in every drama. Shirts, hats, phone straps, phones, braclets, necklaces. If it can be accessorized it can be made to match your significant other.
My fav couple accessory so far is the shoes from OB/GYN Doctors.
It’s like a promise ring in the US… kinda only because boys in the US don’t really wear much jewelry. Or like giving a girl your class ring from High School.
The rings I agree with you, but the rest of it is more like “bagging and tagging”. Respect my authoritah! This is my Propertah!
Hahaha!!! That’s true – dun worry though, we decided to never ever ever to commit atrocious fashion offenses with those matching loud t-shirts.
Congratulations on receiving a couple ring!
When I got engaged, my finance also got a ring. It had his initials on it ( N A) I told him that it stands for: Not Available.
I think couple rings are so sweet!
Thanks! My bf was really sweet – he made several trips to pick out and order these rings. I’m catching up on “We Got Married” episodes, and I’m seeing that Jo Kwon went through the same troubles. Aw~~!!
I want to see your friends reaction when you get a couple umbrella, gloves, pajamas
Couples ring, sigh.I wished I was watching KD drama when I got engaged now. I want a couple ring too! Too late now…
Ohhh~~ Didn’t think about the pajamas. Hmm, I’m gonna save that idea… And I JUST thought of Ji Jinhee and Kim Bum’s couple earmuffs from “The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry.” Kekeke…..maybe I’ll save that one too. But still, we will NOT be doing the tshirts! Promise.
I just finished watching the drama My Lucky Star, and I loved it. It has taken 1st place in my list of favorite dramas, pushing away My Girl and Smiling Pasta. I stayed up until 6 in the morning finishing it.
So my question is: why isn’t Yoo Hana shooting to fame?? Especially in Korea, I would think that they would want her to star in a lot of dramas. But she only had minor roles. Now, I hear she’s gonna star in Paradise Ranch, but not as the main lead
Yoo Hana gave me Song Hye Kyo / Lee Da Hae vibes during the entire drama, and I am totally lost to as why she isn’t famous in Korea yet. -huffs-
Well, I am feeling sad after the drama has ended, and I have nothing else that I’m interested in. I tried watching You’re Beautiful, Hot Shot, Princess Prosecutor, Romantic Princess, King of Baking, and Road No. 1, but so far, nothing has grabbed me
It’s silly, but do any of you guys ever feel sad when a drama ends? Even when it’s happy? XD I must be a crazy woman suffering from My Lucky Star withdrawals
Ahhhhh, does anyone know a drama that I should watch? Right now, I’m just anticipating Playful Kiss
Omg I love My Lucky Star. Yoo Hana was so perfect in that role. I wonder what she’s doing now. I think she has so much to offer.
Yeahh! My sentiments exactly (:<3 plus, jimmy and she had such wonderful chemistry, despite the language barrier and their 12 year age difference
I love My Lucky Star. It is one of the better written taiwanese dramas. Yoo Hana was also in The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House, which was a pretty popular drama last year- so I’m hoping she’ll be getting more and bigger roles soon.
And it amazes me how young Jimmy Lin can still look. The first time I saw his face was in the early 90s when he was barely 18 and by the time I saw My Lucky Star, he only looks like he has aged abt 6-8 years instead of 14
Gloria.I Am Legend.MGIG.HnH2.Family Honour.
Are you sure you have that much time
- 7:00 through 3:00 school
- 3:00 through 12 homework/ studying
- 12:00 though 3:00 dramas!
Haha, just kidding, but I’m sure I’ll find time. Thanks for your wonderful suggestions! x)

Happy Friday!
Am rediscovering the joy of Goong this week! Dug out my DVD box set and started watching my favourite parts. I love Yoon Eun-hye in it – she’s one of the more natural “cute” lead girls
hi everyone!…cnt believe its friday already…i see how everyone here seems to have watched MGiaG….i was waiting and waiting and finally watched the first ep yesterday….i couldnt really get into it as i had expected maybe because of the excitement overload but i think it was mostly because of the fact that my parents were in my ear yelling at me to go to bed halfway through the drama and then i had to sneak and watch the rest after 2 hours when i was really tired…anyways it was really funny and adorable and im gonna rewatch it right now w/o any interruptions and move on to ep 2. and then recaps….hopefully this will get me out of my kdrama slump
@jenju…i know right…my whole family and a llot of ppl i know have been sick for the last 2 weeks…must be the climate change
FYI if anyone is free…but everyone seems to have KD plans.
#1. Mukai Osamu with Kitano are in Kikoku the drama 14th Aug.Guess it will be uploaded in a few days unless someone gets the torrent threar.I am only writing this since quite a few Seno fans are here from HnH2.
#2. rainerust…it’s a 45 episode recap for Smile,You. It’s been reloaded bar a few ep on viikii but ep 44,45 is up.Be like me…I just watch the ending *-*
Have a good weekend everyone.Cheers.
Haha, I did contemplate just watching the ending and to heck with all the complications in between, but I sorta wanna know what happens in between too… Oh well! I think I dropped the series around about episode 38 so hopefully one of these days I’ll get the urge to pick it back up and finish the series myself! I love the two leads anyway. Thanks for your suggestion though!
Re: Kikoku – lol I’m somehow more excited about Oguri Shun’s role there. Can’t help it. I’m a big OS fan LOL
Hey what about me…I was skipping here and there from ep 1 to 45.I was repairing broken links and I haven’t even watched the drama.I had to literally force myself not to listen and see what happens. You want me to tell you what happens….hahaha….I have a rough guess by now after doing so many episodes.
I was only interested in SY because one of the girl was from Family Honor.I am dying for Assorted Gems to be fixed because of what’s his name from FH too.Sigh, talk about stalking your favourite guy (not that I remember his name).
I think it sucks that even if I was prepared to fork out money to get the DVD- it is not out or sold out or the subtitles on it are atrocious.Fan sites provide such better quality.
I don’t know JD much but yes people seem pretty excited about Oguri.I am so not good with Japanese actors/actresses.I only started HnH2 because there were so many comments on the Open Thread *-*
Well it will be uploaded once the link is out and then we just have to wait for it to be subbed.Scary storyline though.I am not a ghost story person
LOL you can come and tell me what happens at the end if you want. Drop by my blog.
Yeah, the biggest problem with all these dramas has always been the atrocious subbing. You would think that, these people being paid, they would’ve had better translators, but generally fansubs are always so much better.
Oguri is like, the best thing next to toasted bread. Seriously. LOL I’m a big fan of dramas, period.
Oh Mukai & Shun in one drama? Yes, please
thanks.
Did someone say Oguri Sex… I mean Shun?
lols. word
So what is Shunderella starring in next? And with Mukai? Srsly?
Firstly, RIP Andre Kim.
On a happier note, I read somewhere that You’re Beautiful is #1 during it’s viewership slot for Japan!
& on another another note: There are so many dramas I need to start! Such as My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Gloria ( Lee Chun Hee looks so(x100) good in it!), & Meteor Shower 2!! Unfortunately, it’s impossible to watch MS 2 because of licensing crap.. FML
Hey Hey OTers! Happy Friday!
[And umm I really need someone to repair this ozone layer (hint hint God)... its entirely too hot EVERYWHERE I go! Not to mention, the smog in Russian]
This week seemed to soar but then again it is still summer…for me anyway
Watching Tamra, the Island… I like it alot. Love Park Kyu! But is it just me…[SPOILER] Beo Jin and William irritate the crap out of me! I don’t care if they love one another! I don’t see why they ever should… Why can’t BJ realize the only reason her tail and William are living at any given point in the show (so far) has been do to Park Kyu! I mean honestly, the only reason these two fools have time to hold hands and giggle about heart palpitations, is because PK has covered their a**. Everytime William says “I can’t leave without Beo Jiin” or “Beo Jin IS my treasure” I almost gag! And if Beo Jin screams “Illiam!” or asks “How’s Illiam?” one my time… I really might have to set her face on fire
Overall though, I like the show. And I’m sure many think that I feel this way because I like PK but that’s not it. I love him sure but I don’t think that he should be loving BJ either. I understand why he does, more than the crazy “been waiting to experience love at first sight” silly Westerner, however, him liking her, imho, is a waste of his time.
Its interesting because I don’t usually think that people should stay in their classes and deal with their life, as is. I’m Western, so I don’t have those kinds of social stigmas to overcome.(I have manyy many others.) I believe that people should pursue life outside of their parents world’s and “do them” but somehow in this drama, that concept rubs me wrong. Its not that I think that BJ should just suck it up and be a diver, live in Tamra forever and try to find some lazy straw slipper maker and marry him, have 3 kids and teach them the craft she hates but I do think that she’s being extremely selfish, one-sided, arrogant and childish. To top it off, I’m just not convinced that she cares for William more than a new fascinating puppy dog. She’s enamored by him(he’s exotic) but that’s where I draw the line. That’s why I keep thinking…why does it have to be him? Kind of like Jae In in BG, why Hong Tae Song? Aren’t there other rich gullible, emotionally stunted guys in Korea? Even ones whose momma isn’t a batty hypocrite? [End SPOILER]
Other than that, I’m picking up Jejongwon, which I had forgotten about but always meant to wait till it was over to finish. Also watching jodorama Triangle. Its a good drama. I feel they(writers) truly want to run the main character crazy but other than that, its a decent mystery/suspense drama.
Have a great week everyone and welcome first time posters!
I just finished Tamra the Island a few days ago and I LOVED it. I agree with you 100% about William and Beojin, though, they irritated the crap out of me when they were together, especially William and his insistence that he wouldn’t leave without her – I don’t know what he thinks he’s going to do with her in England, or how she could possibly be happy there. I just wanted him to grow up and go back home (like Yan, lol).
I love Park Kyu too! His scenes are the ones that made me cry my eyes out. And hate Beojin a little for breaking his heart. But part of their journey to each other is her growing up and learning to see what is in her own heart.
It seems like you haven’t finished yet, so I will tell you that it ends well, satisfying but leaving you still wanting more. I finished a few days ago but I miss the characters, and the soundtrack is still echoing in my head.
I’m just glad I’m not being the evil American hating the white kid. I like that perhaps, I’m supposed to feel this way
I should finish this weekend but I really wish I could see the 21 eps version… oh well.
Its really hard to watch William be so immature. Seriously does he really think that he can take this girl back home to his mother? It just floors me how silly one person can be. Perhaps I should be insulted but then again, BJ is just as dumb.
And you’re absolutely right! How dare this ho make Park Kyu cry! I teared up several times watching his scenes. Love him!
Hi, I’m just skipping around reading various posts and couldn’t do it at work, hehehe, because something is wrong with my work computer and it keeps shutting down. But, I see your Tamra post and wanted to say that BeoJin’s boobs keep distracting me. They’re too disproportionately gigantic for Seo Woo’s small frame, which I also noticed in Cinderella Sisters. I do agree with you about how irritating the two of them (I mean BeoJin and Illiam =)) are. I haven’t finished watching so don’t know the end yet but I do like Park Kyu too!
Regarding Jejongwon, I liked it up to about the 3rd to the last episode and never finished the last 2 episodes. Then, I watched the movie Sword with No Name and noticed it was the exact time period as Jejongwon. Much like when Painter of the Wind, Yi San, Conspiracy in the Court and 8 Days came out, it was interesting to see different aspects of the same time period and different representations of the same characters.
K I am still laughing so forgive me if this post is funny. Yesterday I was watching MGiAG. Episode 2. My roommate a health male that has little interest in my K-drama habit. Infact has seen 2 in the last 5 years of my obsession. Anyway he happens to walk by and sees Shin Min Ah on the screen. He stops what he is doing and proceeds to ask me who she is and to tell him what is going on. I paused the show in serious frustration at the interruption and briefly explained what was going on. He finally realizes I will kill him if he utters another word but demands of me (risking his own life)before he leaves to get him access to the show with subtitles at a later date.
So today he brings me dinner and asks me in the kindest voice possible if the subs are out yet?
Clearly, the gumiho Shin MinAh can exercise her powers even outside the drama, ROFL!!!!
This is hilarious, makes my day! HA!
ROFL….okay it’s been out for the last 12 hours on viikii….oh that’s so funny
Yeah, I will send him the link later.
I am having fun with this.
Oh, milk this for all it’s worth ….. lol, too funny!
K just came back from my Korean dinner of Soju, Bi Bim Bap and Tokboki at the local K-house of fine dining(there are only two in the county). Thank you roommate for taking me. and thank you Shin Min Ah for looking like you do. I sooo love MGiAG!
Please change the yellow background. Having trouble seeing the yellow with my old age.
I’m going to assume you are using Firefox, but this holds true to most browsers. In Firefox, you can change the colors a website chooses for you if you have trouble seeing things.
Ok,details. In Firefox on a Mac – Firefox, Preferences, Content, Colors, pick colors that you can see easily, then unclick the box that says “allow pages to pick their own colors”
On a PC, if memory serves, it’s Tools, Options, Fonts and Colors, Colors – you may have to check use system colors on a PC…can’t recall.
In Chrome, you can’t really do this on a Mac as far as I know (shame that) but on a PC, you should be able to under Tools, Options, Under the Hood. On a Mac, I’d try changing the screen under Preferences, Universal Access and see if changing the contrast or greyscale works.
I wouldn’t even guess where these options are on IE, but I’m sure they are probably in there.
thank you for the tips! I don’t really need it for now, but I tried it, and I think it’ll be useful in the future!
happy happy friday!! omg. This week has gone by so fast. I think i have read a lot of “i’m tired” comments LOL. It has been tiring!!.. I have to work tomorrow from 8-6, ahhh.
. Anyways, I just finished watching Bad Guy.. and it was disappointing. Did anyone noticed that Kim Nam Gil looked tired at the end of the show, and his sparks wasn’t there anymore. Weird… I’m starting to watch My GF is a Gumino, and it’s looks promising. Sighh.. I wish this day would go by faster….. Ooo.. on another note. I’m going to bake a baguette from scratch tonight.. Wish me look
Kim Nam Gil probably was exhausted from having to cram in filming all his scenes in such a short time. And what was with that lame scene with Tae Ra? Here was an opportunity for a dramatic exchange over their relationship and he doesn’t even get any lines! He just sits there, leaning against a pillar, while she does all the talking.
Finally I got to see this telecinema of KJH
‘The Relation of Face, Mind and Love’ , though didn’t finish the whole properly, I loved it. Just a smile of KJH is enough to call this one ‘good’ YIPPY!!! the lead actress is very cute , these two should do a drama together.
Anyone in love with KJH should watch this one( it’s on viikii under ‘Kmovie Love is Blind’).
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Am I the only one who is not able to see the “FEATURED” section in Dramabeans’ blog? When I arrive at the main page, it will flash once and then all I get is a white box …no effect even if I click next or refresh.
I can see it properly, no problem.
What’s really bother me though, how do I get back to the first home page after finish reading certain thread? Which is the fastest way to click?
If you’re at the bottom of the page, look at the footer, on the left. There’s a “home” link. If you’re at the top of the page, the mondo-huge “dramabeans” will take you back!
You save my frustration soul here. Thanks. ^_^
And my problem is:
I couldn’t access certain posts from my PC (e.g. recaps of MGIG, DH’s good night kiss, and playful kiss). It never happened before. I have to use my BB if I want to read them. What’s the problem?
TGIF. I’ve been on a bit of a K-Drama break after You’re Beautiful nothing really sucked me in. (Plus my external HD broke and I prefer to dl and watch in HQ and keep them for all time.) SO thank goodness for My GF is a Gumiho, in short it’s awesome. I love the humor of the secondary(third) couple, and I love love love how the Hong sisters make adults so comedic. Like I saw in the Viikii comments it’s nice to see some non-evil elders for once too.
Get ready for everyone going back to work and happy watching all. BTW I love the new culture segment. Maybe we should explore the Better Man I mean Secondary Leads, who are almost always better than the lead guy, but just can’t seem to get any play.
I’m honestly surprised by the high ratings of Baker King Tak Gu, and even more so by people who think it’s different from typical k-dramas. This is just a revival of the good girl/bad girl rival story drama within a certain industry, made popular in the 90s with dramas such as Tomato (shoe designers), Mr Q (lingerie designers), All About Eve (news anchors), and Rival (golfers). Of course, the only difference is that in Baker King, there has been a gender reversal with the main protagonist being male and the rivalry takes place within the pastry industry.
It’s Fridae! TGIF!
Hotelier:
Yes, I’m still soldiering on and just finished episode 6.
I’m actually confused as to who the main male lead is, Frank (BYJ) or the Kim Myung-min lookalike playing Tae-jun?
I watched a few scenes between Song Yoon-ah and Frank and there was like… zilch chemistry, nil, nada.
Tae-jun was a bit of (ok, a lot of) an asswipe in the initial episodes but he’s really grown on me, I’ve come to really like him. His scene with Jin-yeong (SYA) at the end of episode 6 was so niiice! I’m hoping they’re the OTP, and that he doesn’t wind up with Song Hye-kyo instead. Booo!
I’ve been really hormonal and exhausted-feeling lately and this has unexpectedly turned into a nice little comfort drama.
@diadda — those sneakers Dr Lee brought back from the US were so nice, I want a pair just like them. Not to mention the couple hoodies (Dr Ahn & Yong-mi-sshi) during the noraebang scene were awesome, too.
Hotelier is weird for chemistry and male dynamics like the writers wanted to make one guy the lead then changed their mind half way through. So at first audience roots for one guy, then you change factions. Soon Frank steals every scene. At least that is how it was for me.
______
Weren’t those the cutest shoes?! I am not big into footwear, in fact I rarely own more than 4-5 pairs, but for something like those I would make the exception. Also not that big into gold and sparkly things, but hey they hit a note with me. Just wanted to go kicking around in sparkly tennies.
There was much couple stuff throughout that show. Rings, hoodies, shoes… It was like a couple crap barrage. Considering most of the time everyone was in scrubs and hospital gear I find it even more disturbing
No ways, ok, let’s see how Frank steals the show and wins me over. Have to see this, as I’m so into Tae Jun right now. Don’t you think the little girl (that went missing in the hotel) was a bit creepy with all her love predictions?
Yeah, too much coupledom going on and yet, our Wang Jae-suk got nothing.
I thought I’d throw in a clip of the noraebang scene for old time’s sake. Was that cheesy ballad that Dr Lee sang the theme of Temptation of a Wife or something? I love how they were all making ‘WTF’ faces at him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahk-LBzWsKs
I’m definitely planning to watch a huge chunk of Hotelier this weekend, so hopefully I’ll finish it quickly. Then I still have Sandglass and Count of Myeongdong to finish — both of which I’m halfway though and THEN move onto Smile, You. Too many things to see, too little time.
Speaking of Sandglass I’m so, so gutted someone as magnificent as Choi Min-soo gets repeatedly wasted in his MBC drama projects. Ballad of Han River to Legend and now whatever I’m hearing of him in the joke that is Road. Gah!
Thought Bae was weird looking, but had a weird camera hypnotism thing going in Legend. Very charismatic. I was into everyone else in Hotelier, until that look Bae kept giving me finally mesmerized me and the lead actress at the same time. I swear he turn the charm switch on and changed me. By the end of Hotelier, I was converted and grasped the Bae thing. He is hot. Some men have ingrained sex appeal. They don’t have to have all the features that you normally would want. Might even have some you find repulsive, but they have that thing. That camera pheromone that makes you know you need to keep watching no matter what. Bae can do that in spades. I pray he will teach it to Kim Hyun Joong for Playful Kiss. After signing with Bae I hope he under goes extensive camera pheromone training.
________
Wang Jae Suk was seriously the first time I yelled at the lead to go to the other guy. I have liked the second male lead before, but not so much as in OB/GYN. He was too good and stole all the scenes he was in.
Ballad singing fights should be in every drama! I have no idea where that song came from. I just loved how they fought to sing it better!

___________
Watch out for Smile You. It has the never ending problem. They obviously tried to tack on some extra episodes that really were not needed.
It was the third song I was headscratching about, I think it was meant to be a jokey reference to the cheesefest that was Jang Seo-hee’s prior project; Temptation of a Wife. the fourth and final one where they were both competing was when they sang K. Will’s song from the actual OBGYN OST. Which I guess was a little symbolism to say they were competing for the show’s male lead status, or something like that anyway.
Whilst I never hated Dr Seo, I wasn’t too fond of her either, so I didn’t mind if she ended up with Dr Lee. They suited one another, haha! Dr Wang was just — jjang! Too good for her, he’s miiine!
She was not my favorite person on the planet, but I am glad they made a character like her. Not many like that in any Kdrama I have seen before as the lead. Maybe the secondary not so nice character that the audience is supposed to hate, but they made her a lead. It was interesting just for that.
Neither of them sound like K.will but Dr. Wang is definitely better. Please take photos of your new conquest and pass them along.
About Dr Seo, I totally agree. She was cold, prickly, an adulteress, and whilst pregnant she purposefully walked around in the snow and the hospital’s slippery surfaces wearing lethal heels.
I liked the role reversal here, as usually the girl’s bright and bubbly and the dude’s a darcy.
I loved the writer Choi Hee-ra, she was fantastic in all aspects. I can’t wait for any new project she takes on, if any.
I checked out Gloria which stars Suh Ji-suk and he’s nowhere NEAR the Wang-level-of-cool in it. It’s mediocrity all around, which is a crime in my book. It’s not him, he’s just written that way, I suppose.
Smile, You — I’m only going to watch it for the lead pair and their chemistry. I’ve only recently awoken to Jung Kyung-ho’s magic after a Drama Special and I’m totally lusting after him now.
Dr. Seo was an intriguing character. Her position on everything, marriage, children, home, work, friends it all had to go through this giant change. It made for a good story arc.
Fiddle snorts!, I was hoping Gloria would be better than that. I like Lee Chun Hee, and Dr. Wang. I really wanted that to be hit out of the ball park. I guess i can start watching it then. You are I think the 3rd of 4th person in OT to say it was just alright for a time killer. So no need to wait to start it.
May I join you girls? (Please…)I’m so glad reading that you’re so into Tae Jun! The problem I have with Hotelier is exactly that! I know it’s BYJ so naturally he’ll get the girl but….till the series ended I was still hoping that Tae Jun will get the girl (sigh). I think he’s the strongest second male lead in KDrama. I like the second lead in Shining Inheritance too but not to the extreme extend like what I felt for Tae Jun. If not for that problem I would put Hotelier at my top 10 list. Sigh. Is there anyway to tell KDrama writers not to make their second lead that strong? (Sigh again)
I think they really want Tae Jun to be the male lead in the beginning of the show. They give way too much screen time to him and too much plot development for the audience not to cheer for him. Honestly the only reason I can not argue with anything in Hotelier is Frank = F.I.N.E.
If you go on personality, charm, and raw sex appeal, Frank wins. If you go with history, comfort and future longevity of the relationship… Tae Jun. Both choices are good. One is obviously better, but most dramas have the second male lead be the better man. The supportive good one vs the hot sex pot with some emotional thing that is broken. I can’t be mad at Hotelier writers for following a formula. Lots of women and writers are drawn to the bad ones they can fix.
One of the reasons I liked OB/GYN’s secondary lead AND got pissed about that. He was more fractured and damaged. He had the sex pot thing going too but with the incorporated history and stability of friendship. They switched those roles around enough that I wanted the secondary relationship more.
pipit and Diadda:
Good topic. To be honest, I very rarely ever go for second-leads, and I’m glad Diadda’s mentioned Dr Wang as in an old OT discussion a bunch of us pretty much christened Wang Jae-suk as the best second male lead, everrr!!
Tae-jun’s an ex-boyfriend Jin-yeong still longs after, and he too, has lingering feelings for her. And I love their chemistry and there’s a feeling of longing in their interactions, plus, as his character is fleshed out and you begin to see his real self — he’s a really nice, down-to-earth, caring guy and he has heaps of charisma. Swoon!
But then there is Frank. I’ll reserve judgment on him till I’ve finished the show. But yes, I’ll admit there is a charm to him. (You’re sharp, Diadda.)
But still, Wang Jae-suk! I remember when the series began and he walked about as an egocentric twerp, gangster swagger, sarcastic quips-ahoy and went about thinking he was the sexiest ladykiller, ever. But then there was the canteen scene when he picked a fight and got beaten really badly and instead of saving him everyone stood about laughing and cheering like schoolkids, pretty much saying he deserved it. Awww. At that time I found it hilarious too. But as the show went on you saw his character had surprising depth — he was just a gorgeous human all around (even when drunk he shouts out nice things, haha!).
Dr Lee had NO chance against him. But Dr Lee was compatible with Dr Seo, who in turn was way under Dr Wang’s league. All I’m saying.
Supah, I think that’s why, after 4 episodes, I still wasn’t ‘in’ to Hotelier. Don’t get me wrong, the guys are gorgeous, I’m just not feeling the chemistry among the leads …. I will try again and watch with you over the weekend. I wanted to shadow watch this with you and comment along, but I’ve had three tries at it and still not feeling it.
I’m sure this has happened to all of us in k-dramaland: some drama is raved about and it just …. doesn’t do a thing for us. Okay, I think that’s every drama! Some love it, some don’t.
Oh, it does pick up somehow around 5-6, give these two episodes a go and see how you feel about the pairings. If you still don’t find yourself liking it then by all means drop it.
I also really like Song Yoon-ah, there’s just something about her gawkiness that makes her really likable, even when she’s irritating it simply adds to her charm.
She’s better with Tae-jun. *wink*
Hotelier is a mediocre drama at best. The characters are nice and the plot acceptable, but nothing new or that satisfying happens in it. It is simply a watch for the eye candy that does not offend too much in it’s attempt to entertain you.
Sheesh! Way to encourage a girl to keep watching, diadda. :p
Hey I SAID there was eye candy! and it doesn’t suck. for me that is good enough
lmao, I’ll watch epis 5 and 6 regardless of Diadda’s ‘encouragement’! I love it!
Oh, but the adoption storyline! I think that is what hooked me — I had no idea how miserable Korean “orphans” who were adopted by Americans felt & now that I have seen it in Hotelier I can’t forget. Also, Yoon Yeo Jung, not part of any “pairing” but gets you with her tired charm.
Yoon Yeo-jung is fantastic here, truly one of a kind.
She’s so real and lovely, so worthy of a big, fat bear hug.
She doesn’t wail or even weep unlike all other kdrama widows. She just glumly pulls out a cigarette and starts puffing away and on the odd occasion says: ‘one moment ago there were two of us, and now there’s only one. Had I known this earlier I would never have loved him so much, depended on him so much.’ *tear*
@diadda
OK, ep9 and Frank here is really heating things up. Considering how much of a Winter-Sonata-anti I am, I shall continue resisting his charms. Until further notice.
Plus, Jenny is awesome, I can actually see her getting along with the hotel president’s son, way better than Yoon-hee. But then does that mean Yoon-hee ends up with Tae-jun? Nooooo…..
Not going to go down my hatred of all things having to do with amnesia story lines, but Winter Sonata is included in that goofiness. As soon as anyone gets a whiff of “who am I”, I immediately know the writer has no creativity and can not tell a story properly.
“I shall continue resisting his charms.” If you are admitting to the fact he has charms, it already has started.
Jenny is a good character. Well developed and well written. Would have liked a spin off series about her.
OK Diadda, I finished Hotelier. I’m glad I watched this show, it was really entertaining. Not the best show ever, but really worth the watch.
As much as Frank turned up the heat I remained loyal to Tae-jun through the end.
Tae-jun did piss me off towards the end with his Joo Jin-mo in Fashion 70s-esque lack of conviction and indecisiveness. You just never knew where his heart lay. But I liked the little hints he dropped here and there that indicated he still cared. Like mentioning why he likes chocolates, or the Casablanca suite and the fact that you knew he was at war with Dong-hyuk/Frank over Jin-yeong more than the hotel, though he never admitted it. Gahhh!
Sorry, I had to giggle hysterically at the Sting soundtrack playing in Dong-hyuk’s intense, passion-filled stare scenes. Sorry, it’s just he was quite childish about his crush (the kiss was nice though). It’s like Dae-gil and Un-nyun or Road’s Jang-woo over Soo-yeon. Except Jin-yeong was a bit more comical and well, down-to-earth about it than the other two heroines.
Alas, Tae-jun all the way. I was wracking my brains thinking where I’d seen him before, turns out he was in IRIS.
Plus, he’s another General’s Son alumni (alongside the new love of my life and main lead Park Sang-min (jjang!) and Shin Hyun-joon, Oh Yeon-soo).
And honestly, I’ve liked Song Hye-kyo in All In, Autumn Tale, Full House and World They Live In, I’ve even stuck up for her in the past when she was being lambasted, thinking people just hated her because she’s pretty or something. But heck, if I didn’t end up having to FF all her scenes in Hotelier. I had zero tolerance left for her character, not one bit.
Man! I cried a lot for Jenny and her scene with her father. It was just so touching. And what a darling actress, so pretty and talented. She looks a lot like Honey Lee (except much more natural, perhaps?) especially in her Chef uniform, like HL’s character in Pasta. I checked her Dramawiki profile: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Kim_Na_Rae
She pretty much did some tiny side roles and then disappeared. Foh shame!
Tae-jun is a good guy, can’t argue your decision to stay firm in your support. However you can see now why even if you aren’t a Bae fan when you start watching Hotelier, you will at the very least understand why so very many are drooling over the “Strange ahjumma looking guy”. Frank is a far cry from the rest of his roles and is hot.
TaeJun is a man of priority and responsibility. He knows the hotel is his baby and number one thing to protect. I don’t think he wants to force anyone else to make that decision and join him on those terms. Doesn’t make his feelings for the women in his life go away, more of placing the women in perspective. Also he realizes Jin Young’s feelings are more past echos that never seem to fade. Which is why I think he has more trouble committing to taking her when he has the chances.
Mmmm, as far as the music goes. If I could tolerate that grating ear shrilling opening theme, a little Sting bravado meant little to me.
Can’t blame you for not recognizing Te-jun from Iris. He looks about a decade older in Iris.
That’s a solid analysis of Tae-jun’s character and I can only agree with you.
In the end I could understand his relatsionship with Jin-yeong. My problem was his budding relationship with Yon-hee (Song Hye-kyo), it reminded me a lot of Joo Jin-mo’s relationship with Kim Min-jung in Fashion 70s (though don’t know whether or not you’ve seen that show?).Or maybe more than anything it’s because I found YH irksome?
You’re right about BYJ. This is the only project of his I’ve watched through the end and I quite liked him here.
Loved the comic beats, which were used sparingly but nicely done throughout the show, particularly Manager Lee and her so-called friendship with Jin-yeong. And yeah, Penguin x Hyena 4evah!
I would have loved more Head Chef moments, and Jenny. Kind of felt deprived of them two characters in the end.
”If I could tolerate that grating ear shrilling opening theme, a little Sting bravado meant little to me.”
Oh, but I love Sting. I just giggled at how his song was used to intensify the passion and all, booya!
YH has that girl with everything problem. The girl with looks, brains, charm and pleasant demeanor. Girls like that annoy and rub everyone the wrong way. There needs to be something to make her comfortable with the common man, but I just didn’t see it. Too Perfect is too annoying. Anything other than something perfect for Tae-jun and I bet the complaints and hate mail for this show would have gone through the roof though. They needed to give him a happy romantic ending too even though personally I wouldn’t have done it.
Manager Lee was the definition of frienemy. She was jealous and petty but had a certain charm that made her fun.
Hi everyone! Happy Friday!
I’m feeling a bit down since my mom and sister, who were visiting for the summer, left and now it’s just little old me again for the school year. Time for some drama therapy
I watched Tamra the Island last week. I remember I had started it and loved it when it came out, but when I heard it would be cut to 16 eps I decided to wait for the full version, and then kind of forgot. Reading ockoala’s awesome review of it over on thundie’s prattle reminded me again.
I can’t say how much I LOVED it. Park Kyu especially broke my heart, made me cry and cheer and love him. His dignity and his stoic love, his courage and his utter hotness. I have never found traditional male Korean clothing attractive before this, but Park Kyu works it. I heard about this thing called Team Park Kyu… is it too late to join?
About the couple rings/accessories… I would be interested in reading a post about that. Specifically how it originated. I admit I find couple t-shirts embarrassing and a bit creepy, but couple rings are cute. And who can forget the yellow and white couple sneakers bought clandestinely by Jo Gook and Shin Mirae in CH?
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Team Park Kyu has an open membership policy. New members are always welcome, but are expected to help spread the word of Tamra. They snared me a while back, and I ended up with the DVD set and a lifetime membership in Team Park Kyu.
Yay, I’m on board
Will definitely spread the love.
Happy Friday! I just caught up with the new taiwanese series, Zhong Wu Yen. The beginning was rough, lazily written, and cheesy, but I’m liking it pretty well so far. I had fallen in love with Ming Dao from Prince turns to Frog, but I think Cheryl Yang and the second male lead (who looks a bit like a chinese Joseph Gordon Levitt to me) are stealing the show. The only things that really bug me about the drama so far are 1. the supposedly really ugly birthmark is not ugly or that noticeable at all and 2. Ming Dao’s hair (they even kept the same funky hair in a flashback of himself 10 years ago).
I’m off to start My Girlfriend is a Gumiho now! Thank you for the recaps, javabeans and girlfriday! This drama may turn me into a Lee Seung-ki fangirl!
LOL My sister’s watching that drama and keeps trying to convince me to watch it. I have reservations, but I’ll possibly try it out one day if I’m really bored. I mean, surely it can’t be worse than 就是要香恋…right?
Happy Friday everyone!!!!
Going through a Japanese drama marathon this week: It Started With A Kiss, Honey and Cover and HH2. Loved them all.
Happy Friday!
Can anyone tell me where to find the ratings for the shows – in English? I want to know if MGisG is doing well.
I think 12.7% and 12.4% which is a good number to start.2 episodes.
But everyone knows ratings are deceptive.Look at PP.I loved it and never even finished PT even though LMH was in it.
With Baker King doing 44, Gumiho’s 12-ish ratings are pretty good. Typical with Hong Sisters dramas, Gumiho’s rerun viewership and Netizen buzz should be very high. Baker King and Gumiho’s audiences aren’t that competing, and so Gumiho might find a steady niche before Playful Kiss (which DOES compete for the same audience) comes in.
This is basically Lee Seung Gi’s “Yoon Eun Hye” moment. If Gumiho can do 15-ish numbers (with a cult Netizen viewership) while Baker King continues its national drama status, that will establish LSG as a true draw, and perhaps the biggest under 25 male actor/entertainer.
Lee Min Ho.
Not that I am a huge fan.I am a sucker for Kim Bum but he is bigger than LGS.Right? Or not?
Lee Min Ho is huge with the teens, but Lee Seung Gi has huge appeal with both teens and teen’s moms.
Lee Seung Gi is one of the most popular members of 1 Night 2 Days. On that show, he’s the boy next door, kinda bashful, sincere, adorable, etc. Of course he’s the boy next door who is 6 feet tall, was ASB president in high school, and can sing his touchy off.
As a popular balladeer dating back to 2004, his first song created the “noona killer” label as well as the general trend of boy band songs dedicating themselves to Belleza. Then, Shining Inheritance last year became a national drama.
Belleza
You don’t have to convince me..lol.I am a massive fan of Strong Heart.
Bring back, Bring back,
Bring back my Gigi to meeeee
bring back, bring back
bring back my sweet Gigi to me!
Gigi, wherever you are, hope the shifts are not too long and too many and that you are getting plenty of rest and recreation. Happy to resume Last Scandal with you or go solo if you’ve fallen off that k-drama.
Just hope you’re doing well.
