The ratings switched around for Thursday’s drama broadcasts, placing SBS’s fantasy-romantic-comedy series My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho in first place with a 19.9% as the drama concluded its run. (No spoilers in this post.) KBS’s action-comedy Runaway Plan B slipped a few percentage points but maintained a strong showing with a 17.9%.
Runaway had been the winner just the day before with a 20.7% premiere, but looks like a lot of people were curious about the fate of Gumiho‘s “hoi couple” (Shin Mina and Lee Seung-gi), and wanted to see if we would get our happy ending or not. (Warning: PLEASE do not spoil the ending in this post. The recap will be up soon enough, and you can wait a few measly hours, right? You can do eet!)
I’m pretty sure Runaway will be back solidly on top next week — even though that’s when SBS’s new challenger, Daemul, premieres.
The good news even extends toward perennial last-place drama Playful Kiss, which managed a relatively high 7.5% for its tenth episode. That means both My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho and Playful Kiss recorded their series highs, making it a pretty good showing all around.

I heard PK started half hour late because of baseball broadcast, it went on after other dramas ended, maybe that helped higher rating? I wonder it will stay the same next week.
AGH! I am trying so hard not to spoil the ending for myself, but I really want to know!! Hurrah for MGIAG though

By far my favorite drama (MGIAG)! I can’t wait to see the final episode and looking forward to the recap. This is the first drama I’ve seen where anything can happen and I love how it kept you guessing. I’m going to miss MGIAG! Great run!

yeah… i saw the chart for it as well… PK was decreasing really fast. i think that means that next week, it’ll be back to low ratings. which is a shame really.
uh….I don’t think the chart is relevant as far as PK is concerned cos’ PK’s broadcast was delayed last night for almost an hour, started at almost 11pm….some sports news stuff was on instead during the usual time slot.
yeah i know… i watched it live. the delay was because of a baseball game. but i still think the improvement is temporary. if you look closely, towards the end, PK ratings went down into the 2-3 range so basically, a whole lot of people dropped pk towards the end of the ep for it to go from a 7.5 rating average to a mere 2-3 so i hate to say this but it’s probable not many koreans would want to tune in next week.
i feel sad since the ending was one of the most exciting things happening in the ep… sigh.

Since the chart is for 10.15pm to 11.10pm, are the MBC ratings in the chart for PK or the baseball game? Is it possible that the low 2-3 ratings are for the time when the game/news were on? Hopefully, since MGIAG is over, next week will be better. PK Fighting!

haha… pk team is on a roll lately… but usually, i still wait a day or two before i watch the subbed version…i watch the raw first tho. it’s like i need to force myslef to call down or i might die from hyperventilation if i watch it too soon. don’t know if i make sense. but really, if i watch it immediatly, that’s like one more day in the week of painful and slow torture waiting for the next episode… even though it’s hard not watching a subbed ep, i KNOW it’s there for me to watch so it’s really harder to wait for a new episode. ok, my logic is really weird.

Congrats to MGFIAG for finishing on a high note rating wise! I’m about 6 eps behind, but now I can indulge in the show’s cuteness all in one go
I am very curious about Runaway, such high ratings and it has the plot has the potential to be a lot of fun.
And aww, PK always the underdog in the rating battles – it’s a pity because I have a lot of love for this charming series and for Jung So Min. But I am very glad that they made it to 7.5% for this episode – here’s to hoping the show will eventually reach the double digits within its running time.

I feel a bit bad for PK. The Taiwanese version was a huge hit. But then again, MGIAG is a break from all the cliche and it’s sooo cute and unpredictable. Plus Shin Min Ah really shined in this drama, despite the simple wardrobe and hairstyles. She’s a knockout!
I agree! Shin Min Ah really nailed her gumiho character right down to the innocence. She was uber cute and believable in every scene she was in that it was so difficult not to feel for her. But also, Lee Seung Gi was adorkable. He portrayed Cha Dae Woong really well and was adorkable the entire series.
I have been sitting in front of my computer since morning waiting…Doesn’t matter even if it is in RAW!!!! Ah, MGIAG really rocks… I am a little disappointed in PK..The Taiwan version did a very good adaption of the manga. But PK sort of just rush thru the whole story…I think the production was disrupted and the story feel so rush….Missing all the high moment….My gumiho no more….I am going into withdrawal syptoms starting from TMR

it’s because they have limited eps – so nothing to do than compress some of the story. if you study ISWAK closely though they added some useless stuff that made the series longer. i was hoping that PK could’ve used the anime formula instead. the dream sequences and flashbacks were really annoying.
i dislike ep10 the most, honestly [and i hate those scenes from ISWAK, altho in the taiwanese they had really comedic scenes between arjoe at ZS's apartment.] i was just hoping PK didnt include that whole HaNi being depressed and whatnot. but oh well.
Can’t believe all of my favorite dramas have to compete against each other. I love Runaway, MGIAG and PK so much, but hate to know that one drama needs to have low ratings in order for the other ones to have high ratings. I’m not Korean, so I don’t know why all the best dramas have to be on Wednesday/Thursday slot? Coincidence or Koreans just love to watch dramas on Wed/Thurs night? Hopefully someone can explain to me. After MGIAG is over, I will still support Runaway and PK for sure. Daemul is not my kind of drama because I’m not into politics. Everyday I have to listen to my professors talking about politics, so I get headache whenever someone talks about politics , but I may try it later on if it has good reviews.
Although I love reading the recaps, tonight, I plan on watching the episode first and then read the recap… Or maybe read and watch side by side.
And, on my way home, I was thinking whatever human ki is in the bead, could be the key to MiHo’s survival… That or the goblin fire she supposedly was made from… Or that one grandmother that took her tails away initially would pity her and give her life. Hey, is it so bad for me to want to know? XD
Anyways, I can’t wait for Daemul. I love shows with a strong female character. Hwaiting.

I’m not one to post comments and when I do my comments are short.
I read javabeans’ (and now girlfridays’) recaps without any urge to post a single comment. Ever since ‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho’ aired, the urge became so strong to the point where I would post a comment here and there, agreeing with others!!!!!! It got the better of me lol.
This drama was a mix of everything: angst, jealousy, comedy, drama, etc. It addressed most of the typical Korean drama cliches and twisted it around. This drama’s ending was unpredictable. I loved every character EVEN the second female lead. I would watch the raw, read the recap, then watch it subbed. Sometimes if I wanted to, I watch it the second or third time for kicks and giggles and because it was just too gosh-darn cute!
‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho’ made me have a heart attack, anticipate, cry, laugh, LOVE all in one drama and repeat everything all over again. It is MY favorite drama of all time. (: And I’m happy with the drama’s community as well!
Hopefully we have another drama like this with enough originality from the Hong Sisters! As always, I appreciate javabeans’ recaps for they are always well-written and provide a very thoughtful insight and analysis. I also enjoy girlfriday’s witty and humorous recaps which is also well-written!

Go Playful Kiss. Keep going. I think PK actors are so cute. And I actually like KHJ….but I just dont like the drama. I know I know, its my opinion…everyone else likes it. I’m happy its being loved because its a damn good story (thanks to Tada Kaoru)but i just can’t like the korean version, and I want to..I really do. And all this makes me feel guilty. But everytime I try to watch it, I end up thinking of Joe Cheng’s awesomeness–and end up watching the taiwanese version. But I do Love the recaps though…Sorry for the rant, but I just had to get it out. Sorry for being a debbie downer. Now I feel like crap.

Rain is too exaggerate….
Runaway is popular because it’s a good drama. Maybe just because you don’t like Rain that’s why you don’t like Runaway. Same for me, when I don’t like an actor, I don’t watch it even though it’s a good movie. For me, Runaway is fun to watch, and the story line is refreshing. Rain’s character is pretty special too. Ji Woo (Rain’s character) is a real smart detective, but he acts weird and annoying, so his enemies don’t know what he is up to. When he talks to Jinny (Na Young’s character), he acts like a player, but he’s actually just want to get info from her. I really like the drama so far, so I think you should try it even though you are not Rain’s fan.
I’m a big fan of Rain , my cuty oppa , I watched the first episode but couldn’t enjoy it becoz I wasn’t able to undertand dialogs since I’m not korean .
I ddn’t watch the subbed two episodes till now , saving them for sunday to end my wekkend on joyfull note , will enjoy my sunday inshallah with those two epi

never watched MGFIG becoz I’m not fan of the actress ( shin min ah ) and u will think I’m weird but I don’t like her ( sorry fans , that’s just my personal opinion ) becoz I hated her charactere in ” a love to kill ” , I mean I hated the fact that Kang Bokgu ” the male charactere in a love to kill ) prefered to love her and die with her rather than loving dae jeong ( the woman who was skin burned becoz she saved him from fire when they were teen ) , I so wished Kang bokgu let the actress go and fell in love with dae Jeong , so that’s why I’m not able to watch SMA’s actual drama MGFIG , LOL I know I’m weird
