Runaway explodes onto the scene with a 20% premiere

I’d expected high numbers for Runaway Plan B, but even so I’m surprised: 20.7% is an excellent start — hitting that number midway through would be a hit, but to get it in Episode 1 is rare. It speaks to the star power of Rain and answers the question of whether he’d be able to overcome the undercurrent of anti-fan sentiment that seems to dog him lately.
(Of course, now the question is whether the drama will be able to maintain its strong kick-off. In any case, it is positioned nicely.)
In its finale week, competitor drama My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho had a solid showing with a 16.6%, which is a little bit of a drop from last week’s 19.2%. But last week was an unusual case, with it being Chuseok week and only having one scripted drama competing for viewership (MBC’s Playful Kiss).
Speaking of which, Playful Kiss dropped back down from its temporary blip up last week, settling at 4.5%.
Now, I’ve gotta actually SEE Runaway to see if the drama merits its high numbers. It looks like it’s got the potential to be a lot of fun.

hey hey, Runaway shudnt & cudnt lag behind IRIS, can it???
quite same A-lister Lee Byun Hun & Kim Tae Hee but
IRIS emerged an impressive 25% on 1st episode & 40% on last episode.
too early to be exploding Runaway, it's no big deal to boast, sham blowing trumpets .
wait & see whether it can blow off IRIS to compare apple for apple.
Rain is greater than LBH in many ways, has to do better than him.

lol rain is all over the place trying too hard to be an action hero and a sexy guy and funny actor all at the same time I think the high ratings has nothing to do with rain or his so over the top drama its just because baker king fans had to watch something and thats all rain is lucky

This is just how I feel, and I don't think that it applies to most of us:
Some of y'all really sound like some bitter Bettys when it comes to Rain! I mean, I don't think I've ever seen any of this with any other actor. It's a little discouraging on this site, where everything is always very positive and upbeat as we enjoy our KDrama together. We fuss a little about 'shipping, but I don't think I've seen this much negativity in a very long time.
Y'all, Rain is a very good actor, regardless of your fondness of him. He's the only KActor who's gotten a Hollywood movie where he was the title character. You don't have to love him, but at least respect his work ethic and his accomplishments. I don't know if it is his success that has made y'all hate him so much or what, but quit sounding like this! I swear it's like I woke up to a high school classroom talking about the popular kid who was too perfect, the criticisms are seriously that shallow!
I shall step off of my soapbox now.

I agree with you and I also think Rain is a very talented actor and it was proved during " a love to kill " days , his portrayal of the charactere was beyond outstanding , he did a very good job at that serial ( I loved him also as the babyish cutypie yong jae in fullhouse too but his charactere kang bokgu took him to higher level of professionalism according to me ) so I think it's gonna be the same even with this serial , most scenes of the first epiosde were shooted not more than 3 weeks ago , so actors , especially Rain , must be already exhausted then after a marathon of shooting and travelling for more than 3 months , all along with concerts ( for Rain ) so I still think we need to give him sometime and watch what's gonna happen during the next episodes , I'm sure the show and Rain gonna rock .

LOL lilly eventhough I loved Rain's acting in a love to kill but I so hated his charactere Kang bokgu and his love that actress charactere played by Shin Min Ha , I hated them becoz they were the reason that made dae jeong ( the second female lead , the one burned for the sake of kang bokgu ) suffer .

I totally agree with you. There must be some reason I don't know for all this negativity. I think Rain is working hard to do a good job and I think this effort deserves respect.

I agree the guy worked hard for what he has, but I can not help feeling somewhere along the line he lost his soul for the sake of success. He has got hard and I do not mean his body but mind set. It may be what it takes to survive and get ahead for the what? ten years he been active but while I could like the young Rain the older one I can not. And I would not mention that US movie at best a b-grade action film rather than the huge hit they aimed for and certainly didn't do anything to make him a better actor..though I sure it did his bank balance lol. Still hope the drama goes well and is a good watch

I'm completely new to the K drama world and as far away from Korea as possible but the only reason I'm here is due to Ninja Assassin which lead me to Rain which of course lead me Full House. Maybe I don't know enough about him but he is charismatic, talented and yes gorgeous enough to lead me to become addicted to a popular culture that until a few months ago was completely unknown to me.

After the 1st 5 minutes... I am about to shut off and rewatch MGFIG (raw again..I wish I know how to read Korean) I am glad that I didn't stop watching. It's not bad...it gives you a movie feel...not dragging at all. For those who is familiar with City Hunter...Rain has the same personality as Ryo Saeba...you know is quiet lecherous and funny. Man I am afraid Lee Min Ho can't do the city hunter...people is going to compare. Well that's my opinion and I think I will continue watching this..and I think I will like this more than IRIS.

After MGIG, will concentrate on SKKS with my garang, yeo rim, black horse and daemul, about enough for my drooling, squealing for now.

It's really ironic how BOF already had the Japan and Taiwan versions of that drama and had the anime. Which is the same outcome as PK. But BOF did so well in terms of ratings.
But the storyline was horrible so I wondered if viewers learned something from watching BOF that it was simply a mess and lacking substance.
But I kind of want to see this drama.
I liked rain in his past works and so if he has that similar element, I would be happy to watch :D

Please stop comparing BOF with PK. They are not the same. Different story,directors ,cast,etc. Despite its flaws, BOF had its good merits. It is very popular overseas. There are millions of viewers who enjoyed that drama.

how will this drama slide , 2nd episode alredy slide by 3% down from 20% to 17% is tooo steep.
1st episode out of curiousity to peep show, some critics felt Rain acting n some scenes over exaggerated.

I hated everything about the pilot episode. Every scene, actings, lines, camera works, even the lightings.. so I stopped watching after 10 min.
Then I decided to give it another shot, and watched the second episode. AND IT WAS SO AMAZING I just had to force myself to sit through the 1st episode again just to catch up on the storyline. I still hate the 1st episode, but the 2nd episode made me feel like i'm watching a movie. Please keep up the good work, Director Kwak!

This show isn't with good Ratings just because of RAIN! Sorry to say this but I think that the story itself is what everyone likes, comedy and action, then both men and woman enjoy watching it, super idols that make teens watch it.. there is no way it doesn't be popular right? hahahaha If it was just because the MAIN guy has so many fans then PK wouldn't have so low ratings. LOL

Wowww...I've watched the 2 episodes without understanding even a single line but I like it and it is very entertaining...with these sexy men in their James Bond copycat roles...so funny and good. Can't wait to watch it with the English sub.

Gotta agree with Peter. I liked the first episode but the acting was a bit over the top. The second episode was so so so much better, though. Yes amazing. Really enjoyed it. So I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Rain is the only reason why i watched this serial..
Not because i'm not appreciates the others,but i don't have much time to watch television..
