Super Junior’s Shindong is one of the supporting cast members of the upcoming medical-sports drama Dr. Champ, which is set at Korea’s Olympic training facility and focuses on the athletes who train there, as well as the doctors who treat them. Uhm Tae-woong is the grumpy House-like senior doctor, while Kim So-yeon plays the new transfer.

While the drama will feature athletes in several different disciplines (swimming, for example — Cha Ye-ryun is a coach and Kang So-ra one of the swimmers she trains), it seems like judo will get a particular emphasis. Not only is that the specialty of series lead Jung Kyeo-woon, but there have been several actors cast as judo athletes. (In addition to Jung and Shindong, there’s also Jung Seok-won, as well as newcomer Im Sung-kyu.)

On September, while at the Yongin University gym for judo practice, Shindong said, “It helps my acting a lot that I practiced judo in elementary school.” Assistant director Nam Tae-jin also agreed that his prior experience has helped Shindong capture realism in his moves; he added that the director, PD Park Hyung-ki, decided to cast people who’d had some experience with the sport.

Dr. Champ premieres on Monday, September 27, following I Am Legend.
