I’ve been good, and rather busy for the last 8 weeks, on something that drama having to do with kissing.

i don’t remember how i stumbled upon it but i have been watching 2ne1 tv season 2 for the last three nights. they are tots adorkable and have totally won me over. i’ve now downloaded their album and cannot stop playing it.
they are super super adorables!!! especially bom and dara…
me too! i like that they’re not the candy variety of group. ^_~ dara is too funny at times!
i also really like that they aren’t the traditional “candy” girl group. i’ve been staying away from idol groups but these girls have totally won me…and here’s why…
if for nothing but her facial expressions dara is the funniest! you don’t have to understand korean (which i don’t) to get how funny and sweet she is. bom is a goof on the sly. she gets extra funny points for her corn addiction. (you would think these two were the youngest of the group with the way they act sometimes.) cl has such an edge but then she has this sweet adorable side — like when she sowed the little present (i think it was an owl?) and minzy is just plain sweetness. especially when she is being teased by her yg sunbaes

i’m finishing pk, then simultaneously keeping update with skks, dr. champ, QoR, daemul, joseon xfiles…marathoning(?) giant, planning to watch life is beautiful, comrades, and harvest villa…wooh!!! aside from anticipating mary, athena and secret garden…ohh!!!! sneaking peek of flames also, but it is pretty exhausting to watch with all the makjangness they threw on me…
i lost interest with WGM…idk, gain and jokwon team doesn’t do anything to me…yonghwa and seohyun(love her) has been bland…and nickhun and victoria, well they’re cute, but my interest on them waned…
have finished ep 5 of 2ne1 tv…so freaking hilarious…

Any thoughts on Runaway. I have only been able to watch very little of it. I’ll be the first to admit I’m utterly and completely biased when it comes to Rain as he was my introduction to K dramas and even trying to be objective I think the guy has bucket loads of charisma and star quality. Oh, who am I kidding, not able to be objective at all. Any thoughts from any regular viewers??
last night I marathoned it up to the current episodes with the mute off. Dangerous I know. I know. It is pure camp cheese with a side order of unbelievable. If you accept that and move past that nothing they do is in the realm of possible for stunts, and then look the other way when the editors forget they need a wide shot for stunt people, it is enjoyable. But you have to use your imagination and stare at the pretty pretty faces and bodies really hard to do it. Also popcorn! This is shot like a summer action movie and needs popcorn. Every episode has at least two chase scenes so far. I wonder what bizarre circumstances they will come up with next to make the cars go fast down the street.
I found hypnotizing myself with Rain photos before I start also helps the overall experience.
There’s certainly eye candy with Rain, Daniel Henney and Lee Na Young. But man… Rain smiling through everything just annoyed me that I stopped after the first episode. ..I think I’m biased against Rain.
You are not the only one. That grin of Rain- I just want to wipe it off. After 1 episode, I could not take the cheesiness anymore. The action scenes are so unrealistic.
same here, why is Rain smiling (smirking) all the time, it was annoying that i did not even finished epi 1. I think he was suppose to be acting cute to seduce the girl, but boy it has the opposite effect on me.
I am planning to watch it. I am a big fan of the second lead (from 9Ends 2 out)… Please please tell me that he is also paired up with someone in this drama………….
Yes he is and they are the best couple/highlight in the show.
I marathoned the first 4 episodes with my bf last week. He’s fussy, so he refuses to watch the usual girly dramas. It’s a good tv drama to watch if what you’re looking for is action.
The opening in episode 1 was a little over the top, but I like seeing Lee Na Young kick ass. Before her first fight scene, I thought she needed protecting. I was so surprised when I saw her in action, flying kicks and all. But she probably fights better than Rain. Girl Power!
But I think that’s the weakness of Runaway — the usual audience doesn’t appreciate the action. And maybe I am wrong, but judging from previous dramas, the general drama audience doesn’t seem to enjoy smart, independent and balanced women either.

I love Runaway. It reminds me a lot of my many hours of watching Kung Fu movies with really bad subs and/or really bad voiceovers. It is definitely a genre series, and if you don’t like the slick, silly fights with bad/poor plot, don’t watch. If you didn’t like Kung Fu Dunk/Chef/Hustle/Soccer, etc. you probably aren’t going to enjoy this.

Just woke up and realised I missed my morning class kekekeke:P.
I m kind of sad that PK ended. Despite its flaws,I really liked its format.It was sort of the feel good show and it was because it didnt have an conflict or much drama(I really didnt mind this new take specially for a kdrama..it was light and fluffy but enjoyable like a nice cup of sweet cream and coffee and not an espresso like most dramas) It didnt hurt my brain or my heart hahaha and I m okay with that( after watching all the angst of CS and Bad Guy..this drama was a welcoming change)
Last week I found myself really scared about the upcoming heartbreak for everyone’s fav 2nd lead in SKKS but after seeing the new dynamic of our mains,I m totally rooting for them now!:D

That is so totally true!! I was so addicted I tried to watch ep 16 with chinese subtitles (my 2nd language is chinese) and I only got maybe about 60% of what is going on >.<
I have to practice an insane amount of patience to wait for the english subtitles.

Oh yes. A truly deadly disease. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, failing to sleep because you’re waiting for the next episode to be posted, excessive capitalization as you attempt to convey HOW FREAKING EXCITED you are about every adorable thing that happens, explaining things by saying “He is THE Yong Ha,” and refreshing dramabeans every few hours waiting for the latest recap.
There is no cure.

I realized I had it when I started watching Ep 16 without eng subs for the 2nd time. My Korean skills, or lack thereof, amount to me being able to understand conjunctions, thanks, “I’m sorry” and “happy.” It/they are so beautiful to watch it doesn’t phase me.

I have never listened to k-pop before, unless you count occasionally hearing some in the background of the k-dramas I have watched in the last couple of months, and honestly… When I watch at work I have to have the sound off. This means those links were my first introduction to Engrish, men in stuffed animal costumes, and soooooo much more. I cannot stop laughing, and this is VERY bad because I am supposed to be working, and I wasn’t even supposed to be watching videos like this anyway!
This is what I get for violating my “no sound on while at work” rule. A coworker wants to know what the hell it is I am listening to and a man of Asian background is looking at me like I’m from Mars.

Nearly passed out with horror earlier this week because I discovered that my workplace IT department freaked out about bandwidth this week, and has now blocked nearly every site that offered me the chance to watch kdramas…but then I discovered that they missed blocking DramaFever and life was sunny again, hahaha!!
I am the worst employee ever but I don’t care – if I couldn’t get my SKKS and PK fix this week somebody would have had to die! Ok, not really, but…I would have considered it…

There are unique ways of dealing with this. As a fellow kdaddict who at times is guilty of this. I suggest the following which usually work -
1. Download the shows using either bit torrent, megaupload or mediafire. Also download subtitle software from cnet, gom player/vlc player to watch videos, raws etc. Make sure you have space on your office pc as well as transfer them to your thumb drive to take them home later in the day. After watching&/saving it, you can always delete the video later. The benefits derived from this is big.
2. If you are not a member of soompi, become one now. They are a life saver and may not yet be blocked from your IT office (yet). I almost freaked out when I wasn’t able to access it from a PC at work, was so happy it was not on mine, the case was an updated antivirus software on all others, mine wasn’t updated (thank goodness).
3. mysoju is another good site to feed your addiction.
4. Become a member of am-addiction as well, you will be able to get your downloads.
These tricks has helped me a lot, try them. Have a good weekend.
A word of warning from the paranoid IT types amongst the JBers. Do not bit-torrent at work.
Every IT pro knows that bit-torrenting is a superb way of distributing files – in fact, many corporations use it internally to push updates – BUT – we get paranoid about wild software on company machines that can make the corporate gods rain down fire and lightning upon us. The point of bit-torrenting is that say while you are downloading from 10 people, 7 other people are downloading from you. It is a very efficient use of bandwidth but it means people are downloading from your (company) computer. And if you set it up wrong, you can open up the whole computer and sometimes the whole company system to bad guys. (although straight torrent software is the least of the P2P worries, you stick Limewire or Kazaa on a machine and I’ll land on you like a ton of bricks)
If you do download at work from other sources, I recommend at least moderate paranoia mode – put your browser on private, don’t accept cookies, set your browser to delete all history and caches upon exiting, take all files home immediately and delete them from your computer with a decent wipeout.

Due to a recent spike in unprotected SKKS related activities, a pandemic of JSV and YHV viruses have swept over most of Dramaland, and those few corners left unscathed are soon expected to succumb. These viruses are highly contagious, since The Prime Directive of those suffering from JSV and YHV is to feed their addiction, and make more of themselves by converting others. Resistance seems futile.
But there is some small ray of hope. While their suffering might not seem like it, those affected by JSV ( Jae Shin Virus) and YHV (Yong Ha Virus) are still in the early stages of infection, and if treated, can expect to make a full recovery. Though once the relatively “harmless” strains JSV and YHV becomes full-blown Y/MTL V (Yummy/Moony True Love) the chances of recovery are reduced drastically. If the disease is left to progresses to the point of HISETETBG! ( Hell, I’m shipping everyone together, even the bad guys!) stage, the fatality rate is almost 100%.
All these strains have common symptoms that include:
1) Severe blood loss because of continuous nosebleeds
2) Dehydration due to excessive drooling
3) High fever caused by overwhelming doses of Hotness
4) Mood swings from the height of happiness to the depths of despair
5) The loss of your soul.
We are as yet in the dark about what causes the soul loss, but most experts agree that it has something to do with the “crack” like addictive quality that all the strains of the virus seem to share.
(And maybe it’s just Yong Ha and Jae Shin. Together. Crying. In. The. Moonlight. )
Once infected, the patients seem to exhibit the following: 1) calling the causes of their destruction by affectionate nicknames, like Yummy, Moony or Smarty, 2)talking to the computer screen in Korean 3)uncontrollable laughter or tears 4)dark circles from sleeplessness and a general disinterest in things not related to SKKS.
If you see anyone exhibiting any of the symptoms or behaviors, please report it to a trained professional immediately. DO NOT under any circumstances try to intervene!
Getting between an infected person and their laptop is highly dangerous. They will bite and or claw! Also, you risk catching the contagion merely by glancing at the screen!

Yep, the last red CW that was left in the entire tri-state area! I have wanted it for two years, and when I found out that they discontinued it I basically freaked out and called all the stores in my area. I finally located one in a mall that took me two two trains and a bus to get to. I also had to drag along my mother with me since damned sony won’t give me the financing. She HATES traveling, gets motion sick within 5 minutes in a bus and within 10 on a train. It took us about 9 hours to get there and back!

OMG I can no longer go to the JYJ concert. They aren’t coming to San Fran. any more TT^TT. Why did they have to change to Los Vegas????? And LA is too far, and the fact that it is on a weekday. San Fran concert was just perfect, it was on a Saturday too. But although I’m disappointed, it’s probably best for the members because the schedule they had before all the concerts were back to back and it would be too physically draining. I rather they feel healthy and not under too much stress. JYJ, fighting for the rest of your US tour!!!

We played Scrabble last week and are watching Hocus Pocus next week. No literature reading here!
I’m kinda sad because this trip to Salem will seriously cut into my drama-watching time. I only get to spend time watching dramas on the weekend so I won’t get to start any new dramas or finish some [not so] old ones that have taken me forever to actually watch. I feel that Rain’s character is hiding behind his slick persona. It’s a way of not having to expose yourself to the world. He “lapses” obviously when Kevin is mentioned. I like how he can go into his “ladies first” mode in a blink.

i’ve been so deprived of my favourite stationary sport – Drama Watching, lol but the i’ve been lapping up the wonderful recaps, so life wasn’t totally miserable, now that I’m done with the Academic year, complete with the obligatory drunk-fest that students indulge in at the end of semester, where we skimp and just scrape by all year, and somehow after the last of our lectures, were are no longer jack-broke tertiary students, but ones with career-like salaries miraculously supplying beer to the masses, by the barrel..amazing that..

My sister ever asked me why i’m like reading comment? But comments here are awesome, imo Dramabeans will never be such a great addictive site without all the commenters and the OT family. This sister of mine has been converted by me to become one of the k-addict. Before almost 100% songs in her play list are Jpop/rock, now perhaps not 100% but 95% the songs are Kpop. And it seem she wants to keep YAB dvds for her own self.teehee…Apparently I fall in love with Kdrama 1st then kpop after. My old play list consisted mostly kdrama OST, but my new play list consist not only kdrama OST, but FT Island, and Suju, and Shinee, and DBSK, and CN blue, and T-max songs. I start tweeting just to follow twitter of those k group members and feeling excited when finally all JYJ members have twitter account. Who have done that to me? My sister, of course. …sorry I had to laugh. S’okay, it’s not just America. Most people in the world can’t speak English accurately either. Who cares, as long as they can understand you? Gesturing and pointing alot and looking very lost helps. (Whenever I travel in a country where I can’t speak the language)
I have a friend that translates in China. She calls English over there Chinglish. There are kids at the schools I teach at who call their language Spanglish. One of the schools I teach at downtown Memphis has 126 different languages (three unidentified), and the polyglot there is almost unimaginable. The kids all understand each other though, and that in itself is a miracle.
Communication between people is incomprehensible. I don’t know how we do it sometimes.
Yeah, communication between people really is amazing. The English we speak here is usually mixed with about 3 other different languages – not to mention butchered beyond belief (grammar-wise), but no one seems to have any problems understanding us, even foreigners. Anyway, I think it’s why so many of us watch foreign movies. It’s not like we really understand the language, but there’s some stuff all around the world that remains the same…

So glad it’s Friday again! This week was much better than the week before except for two things:
1.the filing mistakes I made at work that cropped up to bite me and now I feel that the integrity of my work has been tarnished. As a temp, I feel like expectations are higher, especially if they are paying the temp agency so much for me to do something so as to file things correctly so that they can win their cases. I will need to be more vigilant next time!
2. talking somewhat negatively abt a certain classmate without realizing that he was sitting 15 feet away from me. I hope he didn’t hear me…or else it would just be awkward when we have to work together again. I looked around before I talked but I didn’t see him….
And earlier this week, I’ve finally watched the last episode of Yankee-kun to Megane-chan. I think this right up there with the epic Nobuta wo Produce- but I think this one has better music and the romance does give it an edge. I’m holding myself from watching ep 15 & 16 of SKKS until I get these two assignments out of the way. Dramas are great motivators!

Soo I would have liked to say (or maybe I wouldn’t) that I am not caught up in the SKKS fever. And that would have been true up until a few hours ago, when I finished watching ep 16, and after just watching TWO episodes I am probably as hopelessly sick of the fever as any of you.
Though maybe it’s because I have watched the whole thing that I am more taken by Sunjoon than by Jae-shin? (Oh, Yong-ha is on a whole other plane. He is not up for comparison. What can you say, he is THE Gu Yong-ha.) I think he is excellently played by Micky Yoochun, though maybe sometimes a bit too understated. (In-soo’s terrible woodenness just made me laugh; I forget which episode, but during the scene where he is talking with Hyo-eun about Sunjoon, whereas she gave a wonderful, emphatic performance, he was just…saying his lines. Without any expression. Maybe boredom? Hard to tell.)
Ahhhhh. Must have episode 17. Rawr.

happy friday…i’m kinda sad that PK ended…..it was such a feel good drama…i gotta catch up on skks after taking a break from it for 3 weeks because i cant watch 5 dramas in a week and keep up with my studies….i gottta start marathoning everything from the beginning after my xams end next week so that i’m in shape for the finale…i congratulate myself for not going crazy while staying away and for keeping away from all articles/spazzing on said drama…and that’s quite a feat mind you…. there not one blog or forum that’s not talking about it…i thnk i deserve an award for being completely in the dark about all thing that have happened since ep 8..well exceot for the first screencap of every recap that i see whenver i come here

Happy Friday Everyone! Wow it feels like I haven’t been here in ages. The past couple of weeks have been exhausting – I caught a stomach virus, and ended up losing 38 lbs. The silver lining? I prolly don’t need a Halloween costume. Sigh. And I’m so behind on my drama watching, that I’m feeling overwhelmed. Hopefully this weekend, I can finally start getting a crack at it. I can’t decide between finishing up PK and getting caught up with SScandal.

Totally recommended! A total makjang, but just great acting and a decent plot. You will want to throw things at people but I like how most of them actually learn their lesson at the end. And I actually like the focus on family, rather than anything else. ^_^ 30 eps is long and daunting at first, but then you don’t even notice it! It’s my longest drama yet, that I’ve finished; I usually stick to 1-20ish eps. I think the longest before this one I watched and finished was Goong!

I will wait until after it has ended to see if I want to watch a sad ending….most of them end sadly at least those I’ve watched like Jumong, KOW, Legend, Damo, HGD, Seodongyo, Chuno, 8D, CitC…etc. Not that I mind because its true to life ending for the times in which the characters are portrayed, but I am just not in the mood for that kind of surprise because the period dramas are generally so good at ensnare the viewers heartstrings.
Because I love Korean sageuks, it’s on the list.
Tamna is a “sageuk” with a happy ending, you should give it a try if you haven’t.
I’m now in a post High-Kick funk just finished watching the last episode today. What is it with K-dramas that the characters get under your skin and into your heart like a virus that will leave you devastated after its gone. I’m not in the mood to watch other dramas at the moment, I miss my Lee family.

Catching up on SKKS on dramacrazy and in the middle of ep.15, I feel like I’ve been kicked in my balls and stomach. I want to say so much…but COT DAMNIT. There was crying by *..then more crying by * …and then even more CRYING by *. This drama took me on an emotional rollercoaster for a couple of minutes in this episode.
I cant take this.
On another note, I hope the Judo guy and Kim So Yeon eventually end up together since they certainly spend so much time together..

Ok, so can somebody -please- explain to me the Moony/Yummy scene in ep 13 when Yong-ha tries to stop Jae-shin from heading out and falling into the Minister of War’s trap? Because I failed to find a non-slashy explanation for it. I’ve just rewatched that scene and yup, it still reads like Yummy loves Moony, be it as BFF or something more, welllllllll…I’ll leave that up to you.
That scene shows me that Y likes M as something more. It was like a woman pleading to her lover not to leave her and go off into battle or something. But in this case, it’s two hot guys. And I LOVE IT! Oh, and I rewatched that scene many, many times. As long as Moony is in something, I’ll rewatch it. Anything for him. This is turning into madness, isn’t it?
Yeah, it was pretty slashy to me too, but then again, I think of it kinda like what happens on Supernatural with Sam and Dean (apologies if you don’t watch that show, it’s just the example that comes most clearly to mind). Sam and Dean play brothers, and thus, that they love each other is a fact. Yet, scenes of brotherly love can often be interpreted as more-than-brotherly love.
I think it might be a combination of the limitations of language and certain dramatic expectations (and this is just my own crazy theory). The language of expressing love is really quite limited (I’m talking about actual words, not the “How I love thee, let me count the ways” kinda thing).
You’ve got “I love you” and its variations and other stuff like “I care about you”, stuff like that. And are there really any other words to express that deep level of emotion? And more importantly (and here’s the second part of my argument), are there any words that express love that have not been imbued with a romantic vibe? *Especially* in a drama or a movie?
True, we have “I love you” for parents and children and pets, but those seem to be clearly-defined relationships where it’s acceptable to say those words. My thesis is that those sort of clear-cut, proper avenues for saying “I love you” are not readily apparent in male-male relationships (in the media, anyway). So, when writers and actors need to express that amazing level of emotion between two guys (the ‘I’ll die for you’ kinda feeling), they have to resort to the language that has become shorthand for romantic declarations – and that’s why such conversations (even between characters that are written as brothers!) come off as slashy.
That being said, perhaps SKK was going for that exact ambiguity? It’s already been established that Yeorim *might* have some leanings that way, but at the same time, we’ve got his playboy ways, so maybe what everyone involved decided to do was allow anyone who wanted slash to take it as such and for anyone who was uncomfortable with that to take it as BFF talk. Which is basically what Sere said “I’ll leave that up to you”. Maybe that’s what the writer, PD, and actors wanted us to do?
I, for one, would love, love, love for Yummy and Moony to get together. Though I might die of squee-ing.
yeah, I watch SPN and sorry, no, I don’t see the more-than-brotherly-love there though I know many see that. The thing with SPN -and sorry for going OT for a moment- is that I understand Dean and what drives him to do the things he does (I’m a big sis and…when I was growing up, my sis and I had to rely kinda on ourselves only and, as the eldest, I felt compelled to do my best in order to protect her. Mind you, I wasn’t that much older, but she’s my little sis and also my BFF, and I want her safe and sound and happy even if that means I had/have to make sacrifices for her). Anyway, long story short, as I see lots of myself in Dean and lots of my bond with my sis, I just can’t see what many people in fandom do.
That said, your theories are interesting. I honestly didn’t expect anyone to go and write this much; I’m so glad you did. I sort of expected more fans to come and squee about Moony/Yummy. I admit I wanted to squee about them myself a bit *g*.
Now, back to being serious, I get you were making a more general statement about the language and how sometimes, when feelings are many and so complex, words fail and that’s where a lingo that’s usually used in romantic context comes into play and blurs the lines even more. I get that and I get your other arguments and I do agree with you on all accounts.
I just wanted to point out that this phenomenon greatly varies from language to language. I’m not a native English speaker and besides Italian (that’s my mothertongue), I know English, French and a little bit of Korean (I almost completely forgot studying Latin and Greek). If you say the Italian equivalent of “I love you”, then you can bet that’s addressed to a lover, not to a relative, a friend, etc. Even if I love, say, my sister or my mom, I would never say, “ti amo” to them. That would be…gross. That “I love you” has a strong romantic connotation. There’s another expression, which means “I love you”, but which can be directed to, well, anyone. You can say it to a lover, to a friend or to family. Maybe, in English, it would be translated with a “I care for you”, but in Italian it’s actually “I love you” Anyway, my point is, different languages lead to different lingoes and to problems linked not only to semantics but to -oh I don’t know how to say this?- social…er, things? relations, status…a number of things. Don’t you think? Now Korean is -and please, understand, I’m just speaking from my VERY limited experience of it- unique. It can be very ambiguous in that it tends to imply things or omit words or even entire sentences (which is why there are often examples of mis-communication or puns in kdramas, imho) and yet it can also be quite…explicit (that’s when polite speech levels and honorifics enter the picture and depending on how a character talks to someone you know how they relate to each other ie if someone is talking to a boss or a friend or family). Plus, there’s the whole hyung/oppa/unni-dongsaeng angle to take into consideration and that is reflected in the spoken language as well. Personally -and again, I’m still a newbie when it comes to Korean and I really hope someone who’s more knowledgeable in it chips in and corrects me and/or offer their opinion- the conversation between Moony and Yummy sounded…gah, like that among v v v v v v v close friends or lovers. And maybe you’re right, maybe the ambiguity, if there’s ambiguity, that is, was exactly what the PD/writers/directors were shooting for. As for how the actors played the scene? ah, well, at this point I don’t even know anymore. ^^
If you want to squee about a same-sex couple, watch Life is beautiful. LASKJDALSJDLASFHJAKHDKAHSD Kyung-soo/Tae-sub FTW! I’m so sad I’m behind with this drama…
The scene in SKKS 13:
There is nothing in the words themselves that suggests anything slashy. They are very stereotypically manly words, like 꺼저버려, which can be as harsh as GTFO.
It’s all in the performance, hence the genius of Song Joong-ki. Because he imbues the words with a second layer–his feeling of betrayal and abandonment, at being left behind.
Sam and Dean are a good example, because while they are brothers, theirs is a love that transcends basic brotherly love too. Not in a romantic way, mind you–just in a facing-life-and-death-every-day kind of way. Just heightened, emotionally. For a couple of dudes, they’re pretty in touch with their emotions.
I think Yong-ha is intentionally ambiguous. That’s the beauty of his character. That it doesn’t matter which way he swings–he can love equally, wholeheartedly, and that maybe he can express his love and care in a way that someone who is confined by social rules cannot.
As for the limitations of language on “I love you,” it’s definitely the same in Korean, if not worse. Sometimes it’s thoroughly awkward hearing adults say “I like you,” like they’re in junior high, but it’s a lack of subtlety and nuance that exists in every language, I gather. Why that’s the case, I have no idea. But fascinating topic, and one that’s piqued my interest. So thanks.
We should be like the Greeks, and have a separate word for every different type of love. That would certainly make communicating easier!

You know what? I love this kind of conversation. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like squeeing, but I also love talking about such things, sharing opinions, agreeing or disagreeing. Thinking about interesting things. Case in point, the limitations and differences among languages and how they can shift our perceived notions of a certain topic or color our opinions somehow. I was totally floored by SJK in that scene. It’s short but what conveyed to me was tremendous.
And what I got fr that scene alone on YongHa is:
he’s been in love w/ Moony. the deepest platonic one not unlike the SJ for YoonShik as he’s that type of silly straight rock (I <3 SJ) who has not entertained at all the idea she's a girl, only YongHa's love for Moony has been going on for a good bulk of the 10 years.
Imo if he's not in Joseon, he'll out himself as gay. But since he is, he's so playing around the social rules yet true to his own sexual orientation. Though he's a playboy of giseangs that's his 'down low' way to 'deal' w/ his never requiting love for Moony since Moony is a st guy. What makes our YH THE YangHa is he's not angsting and crying never ending tears over it. He's handling it with such a genius level of EQ he should share some w/ his Moony and SJ. Instead of dealing w/ it the SJ stumbling way of trying to marry himself off to a woman, angst and hurt himself and the other to null the pain and eventually fess up. He's just doing what he can to love and care for Moony, and that's enough for him, dancing around it like a buddy but not hiding his feelings for him more. That's all sorts of awesome.

there you go, we’ve found the problem. Thing is, for me it is slashy, even if it doesn’t involve the longing of the skin. I know most slashers would disagree with me, but for me slash and slashy “vibes” are one and the same. That is, when I see that there’s a very deep connection, a strong bond between same-sex characters, when there’s love between them (and it could be romantic, but also just the friendly kind), when there’s something unique -be it chemistry or whatever- between them that may trascend love -the romantic kind-, when there’s potential to “slash” the charaters, then all that makes me think “oh hey, we’ve got something slashy here”.
Also, take into consideration that there’s what you see on screen, what you think you see on screen and what you want to see on screen, which are all different, if you ask me.That’s how fandoms start, no? And thank god for that. Me? Well, ok, I do wear the slash goggles on often, but I do realize when I’ve gone into fangurl mode who ships a pairing.
Speaking of this specific scene, when I wrote my first comment, my intention was more like, “did you guys see that? Didn’t you see the slashy vibes going on between them?” Rationally, I know that it’s more likely that Yong-ha was just acting like a concerned friend, but that scene? Totally had the potential to be slashable, to be read in a way that wasn’t the “oh look, friend a is worried about friend b” That is to say, I’m not belittling it. Quite the contrary. So many things were going on… There were layers upon layers upon layers of unsaid things, about their past, about their bond and that’s what made that scene that much more powerful for me. I don’t actually actively ship these two, but I do see the potential there and that makes me squee. FYI I love them as they’re described canonically but oh how I’d watch more eps about them or read stories about them if there were any. I want to know more about them for sure.

I didnt really need 2 look though 2 get he’s gay…and i think he’s so comfy and open w/ it under constraints of 18C Joseon. Getting back to Yummy and Moony…well, first a tangent, wow, this is one awesome conversation with so many brilliant points. I love when people point things out to me that I miss, which is why I love being in classrooms (kinda like Yoon Hee), or places like this, since it’s where other people can pinpoint all the things I’ve overlooked or simply never thought of because I never had the life experiences that could lead to that path of thinking. It’s the headiest feeling in the world to have your worldview expanded, and in some cases, exploded. Yeah, I know some people hate that, but I don’t – it’s one of the best parts of being alive (well, that and chocolate and kdramas, of course). And I love that this is a place to do that!
Okay, now really getting back to Yummy and Moony…Sere, totally, with you on taking into account language differences. It might be because the two languages I’m fluent in (Thai and English) are pretty much the same in this case – really limited in what you can say to show your love, so it’s hard for me to conceptualize other ways of saying it. I envy the Greeks now for having clear-cut labels, but I bet if I spoke Greek, I might still be trying to find a label for the love between Yummy and Moony – although maybe it’s one that extends beyond a name? Then again, what kind of love doesn’t feel like that?
I got a ‘swings both ways’ vibe from Yong-ha from the moment he flounced on screen, and I really wondered (before the scene where he tells SJ he sometimes wants to be close to and touch Jae Shin) what his deal was with all the touching. I know some people are naturally touchy-feely, but for me, well…I actually nicknamed him Mr. Improperly-Invades-Personal-Space-At-Every-Turn in my head. So maybe I was primed to read slashy tendencies into him and that colored my perception of that scene? Maybe. Just some thoughts.
At any rate, let me finish off this long bit with some full-on squee-ing of this pairing. Hot people with hot people – SQUEEEEEEEEE!
I feel like Yong Ha probably sees Jae Shin as like a brother. If your brother or your best friend was going on a suicidal mission like Jaeshin was– a suicidal mission that can be avoided, wouldn’t you plead and cry for them not to go? i love that scene! Friendship isn’t all about the fun times or the times you support each other through adversity, it’s about caring for your friend’s well-being and praying that they remain safe and healthy.

Anyone read the Millenium Trilogy? I have to finish all three by Turkey Day so I can marathon the movies with my sis.
First book grossed me out, but I finished it.
Second book took forever to get past the first 4/5 chapter because of all the Swedish names and cultural references. Better then first book, buttill not my cup of tea, but I finished it.
Third book, still having trouble getting past the Swedish cultural references. should I just skip and watch the movies?
I’ve read the books and watched movies. I’d have to say, if you’re not all that into the Books, then the movies are really good adaptations anyways so you can just skip.
I really liked the Swedish movies, I’m a little apprehensive about the American version, we tend to do remakes pretty poorly.
Try reading on a bit longer — the movies just took the main story lines, leaving off a lot of interesting bits. Book 3 does go into a lot more of the political stuff, and should make the movie more understandable if it glides through that part.
yes, but sometimes he adds too much detail. I think that’s the one complaint I have about the books. Sometimes they get a little boring when he goes on and on…

Coffee Prince Taipei Shop – with Ariel Lin
Extravagent Challenge (Skip Beat adaptation) – with Ariel Lin.
Both have been discussed ad nauseum for a few years now, but no concrete movement except for a few months ago when Siwon and Donghae were dangled as prospective leads in EC with Ariel.
Alas, still a pipe dream.

If it’s up to me, she’ll star in every TWdrama, because she has this power to elevate any stinky script, even Love or Bread. She still gives an earnest performances, performing CRAP!
She may not have every perfect feature and the standard of plastic beauty nowadays, but she’ll get to you, as she did even with XQ. She just has this onscreen charisma that she can project in her absolute control as much or as little as her character requires.
I actually think she’s better than Cheryl now. In her earlier days acting against the WuChun, the MikeHe is not helping, but after ISWAK, I do think she and Joe on top of having chemistry, they opened up each other’s potentials as actors.

The news on Extravagent Challenge is so ephermeral, I wish we got concrete terms. The idea of Jerry and Joe in it made me wet my pants, but I just don’t see it panning out, much to the pity of every single TW drama viewer out there.

Ah, just finished Playful Kiss, it was satisfying. Warmed my heart, haha. It was my first “currently airing” drama. And SKKS ends in two weeks. WHAT WILL I DO?
I just started watching Coffee House yesterday, so far so good. It hasn’t completely sucked me in yet, I have no emotional attachment to any of the character (yet, it’s only episode 3.) I wanted to start Dr. Champ but Viikii’s having a licensing issue (??)
What do I watch next? I still haven’t watched Baker King..

Well I’m just here to confirm that yes, as of now all of your drama thoughts and ratings have been spot on. I was doubting you for a while, finally finishing up (and still LOVING) Cinderella’s Sister (yeah, I know. I’m rarely in on what’s actually airing atm) and wondering if it’s, really, POSSIBLE that the word on Kdramas (i.e. you and girlfriday) could have actually been WRONG about something. (Or maybe it’s better to say misopinionated. Which is definitely a word).
But no. It all makes sense now. Yes, it totally went nuts. And drove me nuts. So many WTF? moments. And SO. MUCH. CRYING. I held on to my conviction that even with its mistakes it was the love of my Kdrama life… that is, until that ridiculous devolution of the main character in the last episode. Sigh. At least I got to watch some excellent performances. And Chun Jung Myung of course.
But at least I know I can take your guys’ word for the quality of the dramas out there. It’ll probably save me a few hours of grief.

My pigeons (also known as The Psychic Pigeon Legion, also known as The Pigeons of Doom, also known as Wakinyela Ikichize (’cause they also respond to Lakota like that)) would like you all to know that while they will allow you to send them out on your own top secret missions, they also want me to define their perimeters.
1.) They expect to be paid in cotton candy (the pink kind). They can also be bribed with circus peanuts.
2.) They have been trained in top secret military installations for psychic spying. They can read people’s minds. They cannot break through elite psychic protection weapons like tin foil, licorice, and cat guardians.
3.) My pigeons respond well to flattery.
4.) They aren’t really good at physical protection. (They ARE pigeons.)
5.) Also, math is very hard for them.
6.) Sometimes… they poop on statues. We’re trying to fix this problem, but it is some sort of instinct that is very hard to overcome.
7.) They don’t work on Tuesdays. It is a holy day for them, and they hope that you will respect their way of life by not making them work on that day.
8.) I employ approximately 38 old women to feed them in public parks. Please do not disturb the feeding process as it consists of elaborate ritual and has been designed by highly educated dietitians.
This simple guide should help you in controlling the pigeons while also giving you a greater understanding of the pigeon population of Dramabeans. Thank you for taking the time in becoming more familiar with our pigeons.
