does anyone here have seen The Queen of Revesals? how is it?
in light of the safe submission of my all-important thesis, i hereby give myself permission to start taking JOSEON CRACK whoohoooooo!!! i’ve suppressed the urge for so long!
Yay! I celebrate with you! I remember the hated thesis and submission thereof! (I burnt a copy of it after I finished it. It made me feel a lot better!)
how I wish I can say the same (but alas, I’ve chosen to enjoy the Joseon Crack and skip actual work–it’s much more fun)
IF YOU LOVE GEOL OH FROM SSKS….VOTE FOR HIM HERE: http://kr.rival.kids.yahoo.com/rival/script/?ac=view&cd=310
HE NEEDS OUR LOVE AND HELP!!!
that site is disgustingly cute
Darn. I can’t understand a single word. How do you vote?
If you look at 1. you can see a button with a box + a white paper on top. You can click on it every 10 seconds to vote.
now thanks to OT I keep doing the musu musu hasi dance…wasn’t bad enoughI kept doing it at work, now you have me doing it at home…so sad yet so much fun at the same time.
goood morning folks (if anyone is still here)..
diadda – thanks for the YT link – I haven’t seen the dance for so long……LOL, now I am going to start doing the dance…
I might have cried my eyes out for the second male lead….
I probably crused on SHAAN – the beautiful voice….
This is random, but there was this really funny Korean kid in this class that I was trying to give a talk to yesterday, and he actually asked me, “Do I have to talk? I can’t speak English.” …in perfect English. I was almost tempted to tell him, “Go ahead and try talking to me in Korean.” and see how much I would actually understand him (It would be, like, watching Korean drama without subs).
ARG SKKS I don’t want you to enddd!!! But at the same time I want to watch Mary!
Kinda sad that PK ended, but I think the drama was trying to do too much in just the one season. Wish they’d cut some of that out, and concentrated on getting the main story in. So…what’s MBC’s next drama again?
Wow! So, I was going to ask about Christmas songs in Korean, since my daughters asked for it today ….
but I see we are on many other topics here.
I always see christmas (american standards) performed every year. but there are some kpop songs I categorize as christmas/winter songs that were done within the last 12 months even. Of course withthe realization the christmas is more of a “dating” holiday in Asia. Japan especially.
It’s first love- can’t think of this song without cold snow on the ground.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUlMGnerPnc
Love Snow -variation of the Love Rain hit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5aJ91RWuXM
Jo Kwan and Gain’s song is also for christmas time.
ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEoFVOG4YB8
there are lots more though from many years gone by
I did not know that about the ‘dating’ holiday, and I’m just not sure where to start (other than youtube). I think the girls may have visions of Christmas ‘classics’ sung in Korean, although I will ask for more details tomorrow.
For now, I’m off to finalize the Leonardswench Family-as-Princess-Bride cast costumes for our Fall Fest. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really excited about all of us playing our parts.
I love this Christmas song. She’s an amazing singer

Wishfully hoping that Lee Byung Hun would return to the small screen again (not IRIS2 please!). A wonderfully written heartfelt melodrama would be nice, so that he can be mentioned here again. But, it’s obviously just wishful thinking.. so, please continue acting in awesome Korean movies.. perhaps, a melo-romance this time. ^^

All of it great and fantastic, but none about Yummy and Moony. This shall not cure the HISETETBG! virus. It will make it worse and bring death faster! Knowing more about all of them like this is only going to make me ship everyone with everyone even more than I do now.
And I was so sure this was the miracle cure…the red_pill. Meany! for writing such wonderful things and sending me to an early grave like this.
she kills me.
MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!!!
What really killed me this week was the CPR examination in PK. “You become a murderer when you make a mistake?” “You broke his ribs, they pierced his heart and you are responsible for his death???”
I don’t know about the legal situation in other countries so maybe you have some feedback on that. But one of the biggest problems is getting people to help at all, so this kind of motivation seriously sucks!
One of the first things we got told when we were schooled is:
1. You first check whether the person breathes and has a heartbeat, so if he doesn’t he is technically DEAD. So your administering CPR gives the person a chance to survive he would otherwise not have had.
2. Even if you hear a rib crack, what is better: A broken rib of being dead? The first minutes until professional help arrives are crucial, just keep going!
3. Everything went wrong and it is your fault? According to our instructor the chances for the person you are helping are very slim (I don’t remember the exact percentage but they numbers weren’t impressive). CPR is just a way to give somebody who might otherwise stay dead an extra chance at survival. And even if the person starts breathing again after you helped, many patients don’t even reach the hospital alive and then they are under the supervision of professionally trained personnel. But that doesn’t mean you who administered CPR / First aid are responsible for the person’s death!
I couldn’t believe what I heard when Oh Ha Ni’s professor told her all of this. I imagined all the impressionable teenagers in front of the TV who will be totally scared should they ever be confronted with such a situation and not even dare to help because something might go wrong. This attitude isn’t restricted to CPR but to helping at all when there is an accident.
Sorry for ranting, but this got me totally agitated because the message it sends out is just wrong.
What do you think?
Being absolutely serious here in OT for a change.
Statistically, the survival rate for people who have a non-hospital bystander initiated CPR event is <5%. Return to spontaneous breathing is higher, about 10%. (in hospital and immediately witnessed CPR survival is about 25% – been there, done that, scared the living bejeezus out of the docs in the lab at the time)
The highest survivability for a cardiac event is for defibrillation within 5 minutes – around 30%. This is why I have an AED in my big van along with a first aid kit. If you are in the US, and in a public place – call 911, start CPR and have someone look for an AED. Many are placed in public areas like malls and airports these days. Most are speech prompted and will actually walk anyone through using them….
Here ends yet another thread killing completely serious OT entry. (BTW, I'm not a doc or in the medical fields, I'm a computer jockey and statistics stick to me like glue. I last passed a CPR class 4 years ago – failure to renew – boooo on me, I should go renew…)
True ‘Dat. Get certified again, girl!
Yeah, we must get re-certified every year at work. I’ve seen a guy being revived right in front of me. Of course, following it with appropriate procedures is required. I think your near by American Red Cross offers free? classes?(sorry, not sure) if not free, for nominal fee, I’d imagine. Anyhow, it’s highly recommended.
So true! But they showed even though the instructor thought she failed, she made a difference in real life.
Now a days people are too afraid to be a good Samaritan, because they are afraid of being sued by the injured person or their family. (America)
This is a reply to #59 and #60.
I am certified in CPR. I have to get re-certified every two years according to Tennessee law as I have a teaching license.
1.) You will probably break a rib administering CPR. This is because you are forcing the heart to pump as it is not doing so itself.
2.) No one breathes into anyone else’s mouth anymore. There’s no point. If the heart is not working, you are probably not breathing, therefore getting the heart to pump is the most important part of CPR.
3.) Good Samaritan Law states that one person cannot be sued for performing CPR AS LONG AS their certification is up to date. It’s new, but possibly one of the most important laws passed in recent time.
4.) In performing CPR, the only thing a person has to check for is their pulse. To reiterate: if your heart is not beating, you are not breathing.
5.) The Heimlich Maneuver is a completely different animal than CPR. I don’t know if that was a writing problem or a translation problem, but it drove me nuts.
I can’t stand seeing people do CPR on television. They always do it wrong and for the wrong reasons. Also, it is so rare that you can physically get the heart to start pumping on its own from manual stimulation. It almost always takes an electrical shock for the heart to start beating. When you start CPR, you’re going to have to continue it until you get a shock kit or emergency personnel come to relieve you.
JB and GF,
Any one of you planning on doing NaNoWriMo next month?
Maybe JB will take another stab at it!
NaNoWriMo? Oh man, JB did this last year?
I think I’ve missed out.
I wish I can but I know that between school and rewatching SKKS, I definitely won’t make it. It be awesome to hear about others though.
Today is the first time in months I have been to facebook, thank you DB family for making it fun again! ♥
I’m so glad that I get to see you and everyone else! I like having faces to go with names!
<3
I can’t stop looking at this picture of PIE and JGS (and the others of The Voice and LJJ as might rawr as well).

Then I had a moment of clarity when I realized that these are the very two guys who have made and are making a drama with Moon Geun Young this year!
Who is escorting Korea’s Little Sister to the EoY awards? I think she attends MBC and KBS both, just so she gets extra arm candy.
Lucky little sister!
I might be tempted to live-watch the SBS awards this year – imagine the face-off between the casts of Athena, Secret Garden, Giant, AND Daemul. That’s some heavy-hitters SBS snagged this year.
Belleza, you up for live-casting for us again? Pretty please. I volunter momosan to be your co-host. You guys made a great one-two-punch.
Hhhm, but KBS has all the pretty youngsters, too. That’ll be a pretty pretty awards banquet, with lots of flirting banter.
SKKS episode 16 subs are up!!!
(I feel like running around like Grrr from Invader Zim in my happiness!)
live recap of skks 17 will happen here

*pokes OT with a stick*
yep, it’s dead.
i just wrapped up watching jumong….and now im being all sad that its over…ill miss u show! saranghae jumong and so seo no and yo soya and everyone! i found kim seung soo thru this show and i love him to bits now! and also song il gook! oh boo why did have to end at all? 81 eps was not loooong enuff lol now im being unreasonable i know! but still….
Finished watching Jumong recently as well. I had the DVDs since 2007 but somehow put off watching. So glad I finally got onto it. What a lovely drama, all 81 eps. I loved the music too. A teeny weeny bit more romance would have been welcome though.
Giant 47:
[SPOILERY]
Stupid supah, that teaches you, for falling head over heels with the tragic one. My heart is in tatters.
But there is sweet justice, seeing CPY cry like that. Me and you both, CPY, me and you both.
[SPOILERY]
Poor unfortunate SM. So sad, but true.
Next episode: “It took me 48 episodes to figure this out?!” ha, ha, ha…
*lalala* Not listening… Not seen the previews.
What was funnier was when they’re asking him who he’s worked under and he’s like *with totally unflinching serious face* Yoo In-shik (Giant’s PD), Jang Young-chul (the writer) and the atmosphere’s totally heavy and serious.
But those mofos! Seriously man! How could they do this to me? How could they manipulate me so by sandwiching the following contextually heartbreaking flashback with those distressing scenes? Knowing how badly I have a weak spot for both actors (who played or) playing SM).
http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Giant/2-6.jpg
Y’know, I always cringe when I read my comments, janna’s gunna be rolling her eyes like ”ofc. I fruckin’ know the PD’s name…”
Anyways… you know what they say ”the heart is where the mind wanders”… Yeah, my mind keeps wandering towards SM and I need to sleep. Have a very important day at work tomorrow, need a properly functioning brain. Alas, SM will blitz both my mind and heart tomorrow. I’m a goner, for good.
But I’m hoping nothing can happen of that nature that they’re implying, because the events of 44 are reassuring. The ”dae chin hyung ya” moment wasn’t just random, it had a lovely ironic bite to it.
Also, Jung-shikee! I’m counting on this guy to make Hwang Tae-sub cough up his debts, in blood.
But like… what’s with dressing down? I’m still expecting dude to roll up wearing hammer pants in the 90s… or… or… heads will roll!
Yeah, I know. It was.. an interesting scene to say the least. Water-torture. Oh. fun.
Jung-shik-revenge with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air freshness. The thought of neon hammer-pants with triangle and swirly squiggle prints.. man. If they show a full body shot I cannot be held responsible for any crazy photoshopping.
Considering styles : Still waiting for JY to go full out Robert Palmer Addicted to Love music video bad. Her makeup has been.. astonishingly not heavy enough. Her mother, maybe. Lets get these two as sisters or rivals in the next drama they work on to really mess with my mind.
It’s strange really, but JY’s wardrobe does remind me of the kind of women I saw on TV when I was wee. Especially the jeans, white blouse and waistcoat, very basic but effective (think Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth). Do wish her hair was more mussed up though, everyone’s hair is way too sleek for the 80s.
I don’t know… Am I meant to hate HTS as much as I do? Maybe he’s headed the redemption path with SM, maybe. But I’m so rooting for Jung-shik to do some hardcore damage to his old man, while he’s all flouro and Vanilla Icey, of course.
Yeah, ’tis true, out of all the twerps, I luuuurves JS. Plus, he’s so sexy in zebra print. Rrrr!
Random but while I was looking through my screencaps folder for pics of JY, I found this: http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Giant/7-3.jpg
– and to think it happened in the same episode as this: http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Giant/17-4.jpg Chyah!
hopefully someone can help here. where is everyone watching SKKS?! i only see like 2 eps up on viikii and 3 eps released from Gods of the East fansub squad. am i looking in the wrong place?
or is everyone here just super awesome and fluent in korean haha. thanks for any help!
all the subs until eps 16 is provided in the first page of SKKS soompi thread….there’s information in case you watch to watch online in there too
Thank you Sara!!
Very much appreciated!!
@ 68.1.1.1 – Hi Supah, good to see you up and frolicking around. I’m still obsessed with Bae Doo-na and Ji Suk re GLORIA. Slowly savoring Pure 19 and Country Princess to reduce my week-to-week craving, and I have Rockstar as cream on the cake! Will get on the GIANT bandwagon as soon as I finish my glorious cakes.
BTW, you’ve got mail!
It seems that rambutan and I are the only two obssessed with Gloria. Supah, which episode are you up to now?
Yo, homies, I’m all caught up with Gloria, watched 26 on Sunday. You know what? Suh ji-suk and Bae Doo-na are truly magical together. I just adore how open she doesn’t hide her feelings and he’s kind of opening up too, it’s just :anngg: cuteness!
). But what the heck, it’s a weekend drama, I should get off my high horse about it already and just enjoy it for what it is.
I am just going to have to take this as another WUAS though, I kind of remember expecting WUAS to be slightly better than it was but the writing was too conventional, sloppy and it had much too much of a focus on the infuriating characters. Yet, it made me very happy a lot of the time and this is the same. And in the same way as WUAS I feel a lot of top quality actors are being totally wasted (what’s with Chun-hee’s perpetual deer in headlights look? And Lee Sung-min? You see him, oh! Now you don’t.
Rambutan, Hearts of 19 is something I almost watched once for my devotion to Wang Jae-suk but couldn’t bring myself to, not because it’s so, so, overly long but because I’m kinda allergic to Ji-suk’s love interest in it. Thank the heavens for Gloria!
@70.1 epyc. We do have another obsessed or near obsession levels. I just blogged this on her/our obsession:
An Ode to Meju
I have a drooling-leching mate in Haru Haru.
She is non other than Korean translator, Meju.
Always snickering at others over the whole fangirly thing,
One day we turned into mush balls watching Kang Suk on screen.
Why we lech after that stuffy, gruff man we don’t understand.
But he sure stirs our hearts like no male star now can.
The rest is continued here: http://haru2subs.blogspot.com/
Hah! Good one!
So like… now those girls who never watched OB/GYN know we weren’t just hyping him for nothing. His character’s not half as cool in Gloria and yet he’s still as winsome — yay!
Oh and I love yooooou! 1-4-3!
Just how evil you are, I’ll find out later, but right now, I’m sooo utterly butterly in love with gu saram; Rambutan! <3
Great stuff!!!
Giant 48 [LE SPOILERZ! Long ones!]
Pretty crazy episode, lots of small developments happening pretty much all at once. For the first time since like, the first half of episode 13 I felt the show falter a little, but no sooner did I feel that way, Seong-mo appeared on my screen and the quality of the show just shot right up. *covers mouth with hands and stifles screams… ”Nooo… Not with your bare hands, Seong-mo!”*
Finally, the girlie reunion, LOVED it! Way overdue.
Part of my intrigue with Min Hong-ki was that he’s a wildcard, and more importantly; a known backstabber. I didn’t know how things would work out between him and Seong-mo and things could easily take a lethal turn with someone like him at any given time. But foolish SM went for the enemy of the enemy approach and hey, one backstabber to another backstabber (so now I understand why teen SM wanted the pen-knife back, back then. Symbolisms galore.), yeah, he was in good company.
And I’ll admit, since the Hampton days, I’ve had a soft spot for CPY and rooted for this complex father-son dynamic between him and SM (CPY <3s him, likely more than his own son, and Jae-chun put together!). What he's doing with him now is well… justified. But it's so sad. The seeds of doubt have been sowed and there's just no turning back. Yep, SM's 'one day' isn't here yet — but it's not far off either. There goes my favourite kdrama relationship, ever.
And Jung-shik, my heart bleeeds for you, man. But d'oh! You don't watch TV? Just know uncle frogface ain't gonna be winning any battles, never has, never will. But I'm still backing you, bro!
Plus, almost fainted around the 20 minute mark. Bring it, MHK!
It’s a good thing you don’t watch the previews. Oh SM. Ugh.
Nothing can happen to my handsome bastard Seong-mo… ”until the day Cho Pil-yeon dies”, that is.
Why does that scare the hell outta me though? Must remember: Episode 44. Episode 44. Episode 44…
This is where I truly love Gang-mo for his ”best form of revenge is to live well” approach. He’s quite similar to CPY in that he’s a ‘direct man’, openly declares his foes and gatecrashes their merry unbirthday tea parties at the gibangs all the time. And yet, you never have to worry about him. (Or maybe the flashforward helped?)
And then SM had to go choose the fatalistic route, taking the ”live to fight ‘another day”’ approach, of course we’ll worry bloody sick about him. Or at least I will.
@supah: At this point any moment is viable for.. what read in the previews…so yes I worry too. I still call shenanigans on makeup. Not one person has crimped that I can recall. For shame Giant. For shame.
Nagareboshi watchers, Unite!Ep. 2 *spoilers*
Ummm…wow. Nothing happened. How dare you show.
And now for something totally unrelated:
I’ve lost some early morning hours trying to cram in a secret show I’ve been meaning to watch for a long time. I told myself “no, I’ll never watch this” and really thought I wouldn’t get to it for various reasons. But wow. Secret show, you are the best. I am probably going to cry buckets at the end and inconsolable for a week or two afterwards.
You need to re-watch episode 36, after the timejump into 1986 where you can see Royarr Crrub’s Sajangnim Kyeong-ok sauntering around with a crimped perm and neon pink lipstick. But then it all disappeared the following episode. Booo.
Checked out the first episode of Home Sweet Home aka. Batty Aunties’ Horror Show. I checked it out solely for Shin Sung-woo and the first few minutes had it all, from steamy make-out scenes to Kim Gab-soo sent tumbling to his death at the hands of a batty auntie.
I don’t know, even SSW can’t impel me to watch this, the facial hair doesn’t bother me as much as I though, but it’s just I just don’t do makjang. Only arthouse makjang — Yes, Balls on Fire, you will get watched.
Daemul 7:
Seamless. Can’t tell about the writer and director switcheroos, yet, I can see the changes will be gradual, but the directing was notably better already. Result!
Seo Hyeo-rim is emotionally overwrought and hormonal as ever, but as always she manages to tug at the heartstrings and leave me with a serious lump in my throat. Yes, the show IS inspiring, and Cha In-pyo is oh so heartstoppingly GORJAAAAAS. I love it.
