It appears that Park Shi-hoo‘s bad-boy chaebol character in Queen of Reversals is somewhat modeled after scene-stealer Tae-bong (played by Yoon Sang-hyun) of the original Queen of Housewives, even if the stories are completely different. Park’s arrogant Gu Yong-shik is the youngest son in a chaebol family, and, as befits spoiled younger sons, has the rebellious attitude to go with that position.
One point of similarity between the two dramas (other than star actress Kim Nam-joo) is that it is set within the Queens Food corporation, which is the company that Gu Yong-shik stands to inherit. (In Housewives, Tae-bong was the indifferent chaebol CEO of Queens Foods. The rest of the cast jockeyed for position and power within the corporate family.)
With Yong-shik’s haughty, indifferent personality, Park explained that he’ll “ruin” his image a little, departing from the cool characters he’s played previously to become the spoiled brat here.
Queen of Reversals will take the MBC Monday-Tuesday slot recently vacated by Dong Yi, and airs its first episode next week on October 18.

Ahh….it’s strange to see Ma Hye Ri and Seo In Woo in different dramas. And they both air on the same day (but not the same timeslot).
Anyways, this will be interesting. I wonder how bratty he’s going to be. Hopefully it’ll be in a likeable, Gu Jun Pyo-ish manner.
One last comment…why is he SO PALE? His skin contrasts with the black outfit he has on so much. Haha.

I couldn’t finish season one because I disliked the main character… which was a shame, because I liked quite a lot about the drama.
But the main character – I couldn’t like her, even though she was clearly meant to be the main figure of identification viewers. Just – the flashbacks to her cruel, superficial and vindictive high-school self made me hate her and feel with the ugly duckling, and nothing ever changed that; there was no development shown for Kim Nam-joo’s character to explain she was no longer that person, no remorse on her part, nothing.

Well, she’s clearly meant to be sympathetic, and in the time the series actually takes place in she’s a nice woman. If it hadn’t been for the flashbacks, and the fact that there is no visible development at all to get her from “cruel, victimizing and extremely unlikable high-school bully” to the “sympathetic warm-hearted heroine”, AND the fact the her primary victim is her adversary in the time of the series, too…
But there are those flashbacks. She repeatedly, cruelly and systematically demeaned the other girl in school, intentionally breaking down her self-esteem… and there’s nothing to show that she is sorry, or in some way feels remorse, nothing. Even less is there any sign of how she went from the highly unpleasant bully she was then to the warm person she is now portrayed as.
So, yeah. I was rooting for the other woman the entire time, simply because she’d been mentally abused by the main character in school, and I felt it’d only be right if she got her own back.
But the series did not intend for me to dislike Kim Nam-joo’s character – that was very clear – and that’s why in the end, it failed for me. Which I do regret; I liked many other things about the series. I just thought that the adversary should have been painted as the heroine.
