Go Hyun-jung lines up her next project

It looks like the queen of the small screen is ready to rule the cineplex as well. A-lister Go Hyun-jung (Daemul, Queen Seon-deok) has lined up her next project: her first solo starring role in a film. Which isn’t to say she won’t have co-stars. But there won’t be anyone splitting top-billing with her, because well…who COULD?

The upcoming 2011 film is called 가담, which means roughly participant, or party (as in party to a conspiracy). So I’m going with Conspirator for now, because a movie called Party is a) lame and b) sounds like a b-movie set on a college campus in the 80s.

You’d think with all her awards and goddess-like status that Go has done more films, but she’s only headlined three others. She was in the romantic melodrama Woman by the Sea (2006) with Kim Seung-woo (you know how much I love him), and 2008’s Like You Know it All with Kim Tae-woo. Last year she was in the fiction-reality-blurring mockumentary Actresses, where she shared the spotlight with Choi Ji-woo, Lee Mi-sook, Kim Min-hee, Yoon Yeo-jung, and Kim Ok-bin. Talk about an ego war.

The film, directed by newcomer Jung Bum-shik, is described as a drama, action, and comedy, where a woman who suffers from a panic disorder gets accidentally mixed up in a drug smuggling operation. Huh. What a weird premise. My guess is that she causes a shipment to get misplaced due to some freak accident. She’ll embark on a mission to find the drugs, presumably because her life will depend on it. Sounds like a fun game of cat-and-mouse, especially if it’s actually played for comedy.

Her last few drama roles haven’t been my cup of tea (or rather, the dramas themselves aren’t my thing), so I’ll be happy to watch her in something fun in the coming year.

I thought she was amazing in what's up fox. I learnt a little about her since, the hardships she's been through and yet is still standing is tall, she really is an amazing woman who i admire and respect - and I think this woman is a true role model for Korean women.
May she continue to stand tall and do well!

Role model not just for Korean women, I'd say.

Hope she and her children will one day be reunited happily. Stupid ban.

Love her in WU-F, H.I.T and QSD. Haven't watched Daemul yet but will entertain myself when I need a solid actress fix. :)

Fighting GHJ!

Having watch up to episode 16 of daemul, I need to withdraw my previous statement of saying that she is a fine actress. her acting is at best mediocre, not fantastic as compared to actresses in HK or Taiwan. I also have had watched couple of episodes of Queen Seongdok, and I don't find her acting of good.

Among the Korean actresses, CJW and LYA are still my favorites.

Funny you mentioned Choi Jiwoo in the same breath as Lee Youngae and Go Hyunjung.

I think comedy's more her thing. I could never understand the praise over her performance in QSD - sometimes I felt her acting was downright cringe-worthy - but I loved her in What's Up Fox? In any case I do like HER despite disagreeing with the sentiment that she's "one of the finest actresses around". And if this movie's a comedy (sounds like it) I'm sure it'll be a winner.

Having watched up to ep. 12 of Daemul I can say she's a fine actress done wrong by the production. What a weak role that is. Incoherent story. I gave up trying to follow it. Apparently KHJ picked up this project again after it stalled two years ago & practically put her career on hold. I admire her for doing that -- but it wasn't worth it.

she looks really pretty/beautiful/charming/hot in that pic. i really just can't stop looking at her every.effin.time!

that said, hmm i generally actually/honestly think that korean actors act better than taiwanese actors, but hey no hating there! just my personalized (yes, personalized) opinion. maybe coz their acting is more parallel to what i got used to here in the Phils. i dunno i feel some acting in taiwan are too much..acting? korea's acting i find more natural. that is not to say there are no good taiwanese actors. there are. even meteor garden acting i enjoyed! still 1 of ma favoritest asian dramas EVER. make that MG 1!

that said too, i think there may be better actresses than GHJ, but she's just so damn charming she engulfs you! and it really kind of surprised me, from what i "assumed" ( i admit) about korean culture, was that the korean public embraces her DESPITE of the drama behind her. shows some maturity there. Like!

I'm not really sure how Taiwan and their entertainers suddenly popped into this topic.....

I think the public embraces her more because she's more of a "victim" of many past problems then someone who has caused problems herself.

If she did do something "big" and "serious", there would be C.H.A.O.S.

"I’m not really sure how Taiwan and their entertainers suddenly popped into this topic….."

Maybe the same people who were saying Daemul is for old people?

GHJ's GHJ. She's not an actress for ajuhmma (neither What's Up Fox nor HIT were massive hits.) She's not an actress who still lives in the shadow of her marriage. Before Sandglass, she was already a well regarded actress. After Sandglass, she has benefited greatly from and has had to live up to her icon status.

And she's wonderful in this role. It's like watching her Sandglass character Hye Rin re-imagined 15 years later as a Congresswoman. Fighting for others, her principles, and the honesty of a good man.

Erm...you enjoyed the acting in Meteor Garden? I'm assuming for the comedy value, cos the majority of it was darn right laughable, truly awful.

I too enjoyed Meteor Garden as the story generally had a lot of charm, but I would say that was DESPITE of the acting.

Considering that my mom has panic attacks (as well as other problems), I just wish that aspect isn't portrayed overly comedic.

Still, it's Go Hyun Jung and I still look forward to it :D

so kdramas can also come true. i mean, about those "ordinary" people marrying a chaebol. correct me if im wrong. i hope i did not offend anyone with this. i'm just curious

I love her acting in Daemul...very humble and very naive character. Every time I watch a new episode, I'm always reminded that if she was Mishil she would have murdered all those politicians who are always against her, lol!
