Yay!
I love Lee Min-jung, so it’s exciting to hear that she’s lined up her next drama already, one year after shooting to fame in her last one, Smile, You. The new series is an SBS Monday-Tuesday drama titled Midas, and with Lee Min-jung seemingly building something of a Midas touch herself, will she be able to shoot another project to mainstream success? (Her most recent hit was the romantic-comedy movie Cyrano Dating Agency, which was a box-office hit and benefited from strong word of mouth.)
According to a source with the broadcaster, Lee Min-jung has confirmed that she will take the lead in Midas, and is currently ironing out the last details. On the other hand, her representation has issued a more cautious statement, saying that they are looking at the project favorably, but that the situation has not yet been finalized. Typical pre-show stuff.
The stock-market world forms the backdrop for Midas, which comes from PD Kang Shin-hyo (Bad Family, Tazza), and will be written by star scriptwriter-producer Choi Wan-kyu of hit gambling drama All In and its pseudo-sequel Swallow the Sun. (The two dramas are unrelated, but for a long time the latter was touted as being an All In 2.)
Hmm, doesn’t sound like my kind of drama, but I love Lee Min-jung so I will have to check it out. She’s got a sparkle and warmth that suits her wonderfully in the kinds of projects she has done recently — romantic comedies, warm family shows — but a project like this indicates that she’s ready to stretch her dramatic wings. I’ll look forward to watching that.
Midas will air following upcoming spy drama Athena: Goddess of War, which puts its premiere date in early 2011.

I haven’t watched a drama like this before and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get into it, but what the hell, it’s Lee Min-jung so I can’t pass it up.

Ugh, not Choi Wan-kyu? Please, no! Aside from All In, all his other projects have kinda… sucked.
All In, I loved, but probably not as much for the writing as much as it was a lot of other factors – like the acting, especially from the kids in the childhood portion.

J’adore LMJ, I heard she was going to be in the upcoming sageuk, The Emperor, and was anticipating more news on that, so I’m sorta surprised. Maybe she’ll be in both depending on when they’re set to air?
