My friday started with the sound of my flatmate hammering on my door, crying because her father passed away to canser.
She is now packing in panick, ready to move back home to France ( we are now living in the U.S)
And Im here, in the middle of this, feeling sad, confused, devestadet, empty, but still thankfull to be able to care so much about her that this effect me to this degree…
And finnaly the O.T. and the music got published and I just felt the urge to wish everyone happiness and a wonderfull weekend.
hang in there. and send her love from all us beaners, please.. so many things in life don’t make sense, and it’s crazy how devastation and the feeling of loss and brokenness is something so universal and yet so personal at the same time. as much as there is merit and honor in succumbing to whatever dark feelings embrace us in moments like this, always know that there is comfort in the universality of pain. we all go through pain and loss. but know that everywhere, there are people who can remind us when we forget that there’s light at the end of it. and hyun bin. in a spakly tracksuit. and tousled hair. small comfort, i know. anyway, i hope you both stay strong. we’re with ya.

I just watched episode 16…and it was so squee-worthy and I’m so happy how everything turned out!
I’m definitely having withdrawal symptoms now that Dr. Champ is over. Such a good, heartwarming drama.
And I have to wait to Sunday until I can see Deathly Hallows part 1. Gah, it’s gonna be a bit of a boring weekend until then.
Been trying so hard to get over my SKKS withdrawal symptoms. Dr. Champ did appease me a little and now Secret Garden is helping a lot!!!.
Also watched Deathly Hallows at the midnight showing last night. Squeeeee!!!!! Awesome, super duper film! The best so far, I feel, because it is closest to the book and everything I felt that are important were there…. the pace was good, the acting, the angst, everything! well almost, since I have yet to see if those other important elements will be shown in the last episode.
By the way, there was a great number of people who lined up in the theatres since 6 pm for the midnight showing. It felt bittersweet, because my HP experience had been awesome this past several years, and now, it’s almost about to end! Much like how I feel with my kdrama obsession when it is about to finish

My parents didn’t have much time to make it to my school stuff either; they had to work. I understood, even if I did have a hard time accepting it sometimes, but I think it made the times they *did* come even more extra-special, and of course, I always knew they loved me (hence, why they worked so hard) and I am 1000% certain your daughter knows that too, so please don’t feel so guilty!
I am also loving Secret Garden and can’t wait for the next installment.

I can’t wait till Thanksgiving! I’ve been looking for my 5-day break since the end of september! This week wasn’t too insane and I’ve finally decided to start combing my hair more often and do more grooming. There will be a pic of me up on the web regarding a class project and I look horrible! Face looking unwashed and my long black hair look like drying seaweed, granted it was a rainy day when I had the pic taken. But then I remind myself that even pretty actresses have bad pics taken of them and have their bad angles.
With my break, I hope to actually watch Secret Garden. Just saw the ending of Joseon X Files the other day. Really wished it was like a 20+ episode series. It felt like the series was still gaining momentum, even towards the end.

Thanksgiving’s coming up fast here in the States.. My parents haven’t done a Thanksgiving dinner since I first went off to college, so this one will be the first in four years. I’m excited, although I still keep thinking back to the fabulous Filipino Thanksgiving I went to with my friend my freshman year.. I just wish we were friendly with enough people down here to be able to justify having lechon.
And yay for Secret Garden! I can’t get enough of neurotic Binnie and KimuTaku-channeling YSH, I really can’t. I can’t wait to watch the new episodes.

I watched Antique Bakery for the first time last week (because YAI of course!) and I was totally surprised with KJW’s character. It’s like I was under the impression that gay characters and culture in Korea were, idk, taboo and to have it so openly discussed even though one of the main characters had a negative attitude about it, was…. unexpected. I had read somewhere that one of the characters was gay but I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Not to say that I have a problem with it, I have many gay friends and it seems like every third person here is gay.
I was impressed by everyone in that cast.
KJW was perfect in the role.
I thought the same thing, also with SKKS there are a lot of ‘gay’ parts but that doesnt bother anyone o-o
It really wtf’s me that he even kisses that french guy a few times o-o and they had sex xD I didnt hear anyone about Antique Bakery like with the life is beautiful thing so now im toooootally confused on Korea’s opinion on this. (The main opinion, or how do you say that? >.> I suck at English once again.

i think it’s because it’s a network TV series as opposed to a movie. Korean movies tend to show material that wouldn’t really ever be shown on TV, because I guess the public feels less need to police them – they can always decide not to see the film if they don’t like the content. Life Is Beautiful was such a big deal because it showed a gay couple on network TV, which almost everyone in the country has access to (I think). and some people got mad because they didn’t want to have to turn on the TV and see a gay couple in their drama. i can’t say exactly what Korea’s opinion in general is about it though.
(Excuse my horrible English & my fail at explaining ;_;) Hmm, but they are okay with parts that just seem gay in TV series? Or are they used to that and its normal? because guys in Korea are just much closer in general, that it seems gay to other people? (I dont know how everyone else sees that, but out here you will be called gay pretty fast o-o)
Or its just me and i gayify everything xD
lol i don’t really know either. a lot of stuff that goes on between guys in Korea can be seen as gay to outsiders, but isn’t really. some of it is just them being close, and a lot of it (especially in the idol singer world) is just fanservice.
Also, as has been mentioned here on DB, a lot of the “dude in love with a dude who’s actually a girl” storylines seem like cop outs because they end up fortifying heterosexual relationships as the norm as opposed to making room for non-heterosexual ones. those kinds of storylines don’t really bother people, i guess because in the end it’s the guy and the girl who get together, not the guy and the guy (or the girl and the girl).

My step-brother-in-law said he could liberate a plane from his work, but that we need to find a pilot. I think that we had already decided that our men (and women) would be able to fly us back (using skills of the 6pack) but that we were stuck trying to find a pilot that could fly across America (and other various parts of the globe) to pick us all up to first get to Korea.

I’m going to be test-driving a pumpkin cheesecake recipe for for Thanksgiving dinner this weekend… this will be my first ever attempt at a cheesecake, and I’m making the crust too – yikes! We’ll see how it goes. I have a huge test coming up in three weeks, so I have to cut down on my drama hours, but I can’t help checking up for news on MSOAN and SG all the time! I’m trying to make myself wait for WITHS2 subs, but it’s hard, especially when there are other subbing squads bringing them out faster. Oh well, such is life.
I’m in love with MSOAN – it seems to be the perfect drama for my life right now. I keep seeing little bits of myself in the characters, and it’s also so adorable! It also gives me hope that I haven’t done away with my happy, [somewhat] carefree days just yet. SG is just all kinds of awesome. I am in love with the soundtrack and the cinematography with all its deep blues and greens. Can’t wait for the body-swapping shenanigans to start.
I hear there is a new drama called Cinderella. The casting has not been confirmed as of yet. This is what I heard so far. (I’m bracing myself for the fangirl screems that are about to hit me like a shockwave)

Mistake, mistake, mistake. I am so enamored now, well, I foresee many late nights and postponed work in my future. Darn you, Sparkly Tracksuit of Awesome and Stuntwoman!Heroine. Darn you to heck!
But really, how awesomely bad is that tracksuit? I just kept screaming “DISCO! DISCO REJECT!” every time he appeared onscreen with it. Such an amazing character detail. I love you show, please do not disappoint me.
Quick question for everyone. I’m sure it’s crossed almost everyone’s mind at some point so it may have been discussed but I need to know… How true to life are kdramas, especially family relationships and arranged marriages? It’s so common to see the crazy MILs I can’t help but think part of it is true, but seriously, WTF?!?! And the marriages, is it really as common as dramas portray that people will go on matseons and decide to get married to someone who is practically a stranger?
Of course I know that alot of is exaggerated to elicit emotional responses from the audience but I can’t help but think that there is a basis, a reason SOMEWHERE for all these plot devices.
Can you please clarify, what are you referring to as MILs?
The arranged marriage concept elicits some instinctive flinching in most Americans, but arranged marriages are very common in Southeast Asia. I can not speak for how it is in Korea, though. I personally don’t see anything wrong with the matseons, they are adults freely making a decision. If they were underage, and their parents were forcing them it would be a different matter. But, that just me,I guess it all depends on your own cultural paradigm.

Oter things,these days i’m much more in love(if that can be possible) with B2st,love their new album so much…I hate that i like in a so far country with no hope to buy the album,i know i can always buy it online but that will cost me big time,we are a poor country and the costs would be almost 100 euro or less but that is huge in Romania(one salary is like 200 euro)
LOVE Secret Garden!! Just watched Hwang Jin Yi (I couldn’t get into it when it aired, but loved it now – except for the end. I just couldn’t get the end. C’mon, who gives up on true love for art? No one wants to see that kind of ending!!) In any case, looking forward to Secret Garden and the sparkly suit!

Dear MSOAN watchers, (those who’ve watched episode 4)
While i am beginning to see the merits of our second lead, Jung-In aka The Hotness aka Kim Jae-wook, I have so far managed to stave off the deadly Second Lead Syndrome. The reason? I cannot get over the fact that Jung-In is turning on the charm and wooing Mae-ri just so that he can have his daddy fund his drama. Isn’t that leading her along? Isn’t that wrong??? Am I the only one bothered by this? If a dude kissed me on the forehead, and acted like he cared, and encouraged me to develop feelings for him, when in actual fact he only wanted to please his father, I would be raging mad and extremely upset. I don’t think I can get over this issue, even if he develops feelings for her eventually. Just my two cents. Anyone agree/disagree? Am I being ridiculous?

LOL @ “kjw dies lonely, again”. I actually really want him to hook up with Seo Jun for some reason. I think it could work. Granted, I would like to see the layers of his emotionally-non-functioning self peeled away first, but if it is proven he has a soul, it’d be nice if they got together.
I really like Seo Jun as a character though, because for ONCE she’s not psychotic, or trying to cling on to the main lead with her banshee claws. she wants a real relationship, and not just being with a dude because he’s hot and available.
I just want the opposite in fact. JGS and Moon’s character are absolutely similar to each other. While they are as cute as puppies playing with kittens
they don’t have anything different to offer each other. Mae-ri and KJW’s character in the other hand complement each other. He gets her sunny disposition and optimism, and she gets someone who is loyal and dutiful and let’s not forget HOT. I mean she has lived a pretty unstable, hard knocked life and I think KJW’s character can provide her the emotional and financial stability she deserves.

I actually felt the same way at one point. but i believe that eventually JGS is going to become that person that you KJW say is. He’s already got loyal down, and to me actually seems to be the more emotionally stable of the two guys, if we assume that Jung-In’s emotional issues have just been kept under lock and key for a really long time. In my eyes, they’re both good choices, so seeing how the whole thing turns out will keep me tuning in every week

Drama Land Laws Abridged Vol. 1
Rule 1: All contracts between a single male and female becomes real love on some level.
Part A : Contract marriages can break but only after both parties feel fully vested in the relationship and the writers need more angst.
Part B : Contract made for living arrangements spell immediate and total doom for those involved. They will love each other forever.
Part C : Contracts for business also end in love though half of these can be one sided.
Rule 2 : 90% of all first kisses on screen are shared between the main couple.
Rule 3 : Someone must get drunk enough to be lifted home.
Part A: If the girl does it for the guy once, then the guy must also do this for the girl in a later episode.
Part B : The thing that caused this drinking fit is somehow related to the one lifting.
Part C : A piggyback excuse is needed.
Rule 4 : Someone must go to the JimJilBang(korean sauna)
Rule 5 : Someone must cook something and be fantastic at cooking it.
Rule 6 : Second Male lead must stare at main female once an episode.
Part A: After discovering his feelings the look changes to emotional longing and the camera will hold much much longer.
Part B: Primary male lead will catch him staring.
Rule 7 : Someone must get injury or disease that results in a mad dash to the hospital.
Part A: If the injury is minor or unknown this will result in a piggyback.
Part B: If the injury is greater the result is a princess carry!
Rule 8: Water will make you sick.
Part A: A high temperature is unavoidable when rain hits you, however your feverish delusion will break only after confessions and/or kissing takes place.
Part B: Falling into a body of water is also cause for concern, but not as dangerous. Only 50% fever rate. But 100% chance at awkward skinship and/or near nakedness.

Rule 10: If one lead has parents and they are not evil, the other lead must be the spawn of the devil. This (usually mother) parent will interfere in the relationship at every turn and make things a nightmare.
Part A : If both Leads come from dysfunctional homes they are equally dysfunctional and will be resolved by the end of the series.
Part B : If both leads come from normal homes without conflict, one will be misunderstood and made between the parents.
hahaha…you forgot a few…like how the characters bond over ramen, nothing good ever happens near the river, and there will be drinking and crying at a pojangmacha…i’m sure there are more

Rule 11: Second female leads will never get the guy. Ever.
Part A: If they have dated before, she will continue to be a bane in her ex’s existence and attempt shut the main female out with the idea that she knows him better and thus has the right to keep him to herself.
Part B: If they have not dated before, she will delude herself into thinking she is the only person the main lead is worth dating.
Part C: She almost always has an advantage over her rival, either in looks, money, or birth (or all three).
Part D: She is required to produce one haughty look and one negative comment about our female lead per episode.
Rule 9 covers the river thing. and this is Vol. 1 the Abridged version.
haha JB or somebody should post a list of drama rules and stereotypes. Cus there are some obvious rules like taking out the battery of your phone when you wanna be uncontactable but there are others that are purely stereotypes. like the leads have to be gravely ill/related/tragic.

That’s deception as well, but I personally find toying with someone’s emotions to be a more egregious offence. Jung-In’s just being sweet to her so that he can have his drama. MaeRi is lying to her dad, but at least she’s not pretending to love him and be a good daughter when she isn’t.
