Lee Yong-woo romances Yoon Eun-hye in Minidress
by | December 15, 2010 | 25 Comments

His drama Birdie Buddy may have hit the skids, but Lee Yong-woo well be getting right back to work on a new movie — his first — My Black Minidress, playing boyfriend to the film’s star Yoon Eun-hye (My Fair Lady).

The movie recently announced its lead quartet of actresses, which in addition to Yoon includes Park Han-byul (Oh My Lady), Cha Ye-ryun (Dr. Champ), and Yoo In-na (Secret Garden). The foursome are college friends who were all in the theater and film department together, and go through the ups and downs of twentysomething life together.

At first, I was disappointed with this casting, because while Lee Yong-woo is incredibly pretty to look at, his acting skills barely rate above “solid block of wood.” His scenes in Style were often painful to watch — he had no sense of emotion, line delivery, character awareness — although, to be fair to him, the whole drama was a mess. But upon further thought it seems he may not be the main male lead, given that his character is described as the one who opens Yoon Eun-hye’s eyes to love, but also introduces her to betrayal. Which suggests he’s more of an ex than the love interest.

My Black Minidress begins filming in mid-December and aims to release in theaters in March 2011.

HAHAHA! I love your choice of words. Although I haven’t seen this guy in action, it brings to mind another pretty face that was also supposedly really bad in his debut: Kim Hyun Joong. The reason why I bring KHJ up is that I saw the MV for SS501′s “Love Like This” (mind you I’ve never heard or seen an SS501 MV/Song before this), and I was pleasantly surprised. He had charisma as a member of SS501 that he is said to be lacking as an actor and for the first time I thought “Damn, this guy is Hot”. Just a random thought because now I really hope that if he continues to pursue a career in acting, he should try to harness whatever it is that brings him to life on the stage (or, maybe it was just the energy from the song that made me blind to whatever flaws he has). In any case, birdscout’s words apply in both cases. JAIYOU~

I should also add that I’ve not seen BOF in its entirety (because I hold the Japanese version – anime included – too close to my heart to do so; and because I can handle the same plot only a few times before it gets tiring) and haven’t seen Playful Kiss (for about the same reasons, although I did watch the hilarious hoody scenes where the girl gets a job and KHJ’s hilarious body reactions in the Korean version) so I’ve never had any kind of judgement on KHJ’s acting.

He was in Style where he was okay, possibly because he was wearing tank tops and skinny jeans–he looked good…oh wait we’re back to his looks.

Oh, Oh Wait! Do you remember the scene (in Style) when he’s dancing basically by himself in the middle of the dance floor. It had the “OMG, my girlfriend has had too much to drink. Someone go get her before she makes a complete ass of herself” feel to it (i.e. uncomfortable to watch).

Yeah, Girlfriend IS the correct term here.

I hope he’ll do something about that one eyebrow that runs into his face before filming the movie :P
I must admit I don’t know him, maybe it’s just the photo :)

    Ohhh pretty…

Though, I do hope there is another male lead cast only because I love YEH and as such a great actress I believe she deserves more to be able to work off of…

If it’s not the case then I’m willing to give LYW a try and see if he exceeds my expectations.

  4. noob

i wonder if he’s gotten better since he was one of the leads in Birdie Birdie… or at least I hope so… for the sake of the movie… eek!

I look forward to watch him take another dance floor like in Style and dance his heart out.

  8. J

Well, he IS pretty attractive(this picture doesn’t really do him justice IMOo), but I must say that his acting was not very impressive in Style. I just hope that he’ll have at least great chemistry with Eun Hye (their May 2009 photoshoot for W magazine was sizzling hot) :)

  9. Amber

    Can’t wait for the movie!!!!!!!!!!
I hope he and YEH will have sizzling chemistry.

    sometimes it’s minimalism.

and sometimes “no skills” but “solid block of wood” in a sentence are too good to be ignored.

chap is hot… his acting though ain’t natural someone mentioned his dancing in STYLE OMG i felt embraced for him n his random spontaneous dance moves.
