Min Hyo-rin and Daniel Choi star in short film
Min Hyo-rin, who made her acting debut (pretty winningly) in last year’s Triple, has been cast with Cyrano Dating Agency’s Daniel Choi in a new short film by Kim Dae-woo, the director of the well-received ero-sageuk movie Bang-ja Chronicle.
The project is called Age of Milk [우유시대], and depicts “incomplete youth through a warm perspective” — “youth that’s beautiful because of its incompleteness and instability” — and follows the windy paths of two old souls. Min Hyo-rin plays Jin, a woman who’s working on pursuing her dream, which is about the most unhelpful character description ever. (She’s playing a woman! Who’s about the same age as herself! Who’s living her life!)
The project was enabled by the investment of Samsung Electronics and was shot with the Galaxy S, a Samsung brand smartphone. It’ll be available via the Galaxy S soon, and is currently being shown on cable movie channel OCN. Huh — so it’s really a clever marketing tie-in, yeah? We’ve seen similar projects with So Ji-sub and Lee Yeon-hee’s U-Turn and the “crossover film” with Hyun Bin and Shin Mina, Summer Days. I guess we can expect to see more examples of branded entertainment in the future.
Meanwhile, Min Hyo-rin is currently working on her feature film debut, Sunny, which is heading into its final shoots, and is also the MC of cable channel Mnet’s Trendy Report File.
Daniel Choi is just coming off his widely successful romantic comedy Cyrano Dating Agency and has an upcoming drama in the works, The Musical, although the drama has been without a broadcast station for months. Dare we — gulp — anticipate another Birdie Buddy? To be optimistic, The Musical does have bigger stars attached, which should help convince a station that it’s a bigger draw…
