Trailer for comedic period mystery Joseon’s Great Detective

The character posters and trailer are out for Joseon’s Great Detective: Secret of the Wolfsbane, which looks like it could be a hoot. The film is highly stylized and peppered with action and comedy, which has me sitting up in interest — plus, it stars A-list leading man Kim Myung-min (Beethoven Virus, My Love By My Side). Always a good thing.

Kim plays the titular hero, the top detective of the Joseon era, who seems like a Sherlock Holmes-y type of character with his mix of bravado, confidence, and goofiness (though perhaps less depraved/tortured).

The normally sweet-faced, lively Han Ji-min (Cain & Abel, Yi San) is looking a lot bolder and darker for her role; she’s also wearing a lot of black and red, which is practically movie/drama code for “sly femme fatale.” We’ve already seen the first movie poster featuring Kim Myung-min, and here are the rest. Her poster bears the tagline, “What is it you wish to know?” That, coupled with the sly smiles and knowing glances in the trailer video, gives her an aura of mystery.

Here’s the video:

Meanwhile, Kim Myung-min’s poster reads, “Is there a case you’d like solved?” I can’t help myself from wanting to shave that silly mustache from his face, but I know it’s part of the package, giving him a goofy look to counter his character’s smarts. Still. It’s like a caterpillar died on his face. Shudder.

Last but not least, Oh Dal-soo plays the standard comic relief role as the sidekick, and his poster reads, “Do you have need of my help?”

Looks like a rollicking fun time, if you ask me. (Kim Myung-min doing comedy is not to be missed! Especially since we don’t know how long it’ll be before we can see his funny side again, especially if he continues to favor serious, weightier roles in the future, as he has been doing in the past few years.)

Joseon’s Great Detective: Secret of the Wolfsbane releases in theaters on January 27.

And I just realized it looks like one of the dogs in "Das Feuerzeug". Dont no if there is any translation into english of this fairytale but it's a german one as far as I know. So this is one of the dogs that appears every time he tries to enkindle his lighter. If he tries it once their is a small dog, twice a huger one and the third time he tries a dog like this one up there appears. WOW. And what for? To grant him every whish he asks for. This last one actually kidnapped the princess (that the hero has fallen for) ON HIS BACK WHILE SHE'S STILL ASLEEP and brings her to the hero (who gets really in trouble because of that).

That is how huge he is. xD
So maybe this dog is the real sidekick?

That's what I thought, too. It reminded of Jeon Woochi especially around the end when Kim Myung-min was standing on the title and talking.

Instead of dark and mysterious, it's starting to look a lit like goofy and silly, with a dash of salt for good measure. A la Pink Panther?

Looks scrumptious.

I'm looking forward to this one. I think KMM and HJM are both incredibly talented, and a genre piece set in historical times (ex: Joseon X-Files) is totally my cup of tea.

Whoa, I did not recognize Han Ji-min. I've only see her in Cain & Abel and she had a cutesy role there so it's really weird to see her looking so sexy and dangerous.
Kim Myung-min's mustache actually doesn't bother me, maybe because I know it's for comedic effect or just because it's Kim Myung-min and he can do just about anything he wants.

that is a huge...husky? a really handsome one at that.
contrary, i like the mustache on the man, it gives him that sparkling quality.
thanks for bringing this film to our attention, JB, would definitely look out for it...

The movie looks fun, but I've promised to myself to keep my expectation low, so there will be no disappointment later..

And I think I'm getting used to KMM's mustache~ ^^

Too bad, I thought it was a drama X3
I didn't finish Joseon X-Files yet but I can feel already the withdrawal symptoms just around the corner... Several episodes with KMM's crazy mustache would have been a blast lol
Anyway, for some reason this movie, visually, made me think about "The Accidental Gangster and the Mistaken Courtesan" movie (good for the eyes, not so good for the story), I will definitally check it ^^

The first thing that came to my mind was how the clothes are soooooooo pretty in the posters.... haaaaa. And I just want to cuddle that big fluffball!

Now seriously onto the trailer, I'm totally happy for comedic KMM and the trailer was hilarious to watch! I'm completely anticipating this movie with high hopes.

i didn't recognize han ji min right away! she's not her usual sweet self, she looks mysterious and sexy. love her transformation.

am not a fan of KMM's acting - imo he overacts a lot.
