Filming begins on All That Glitters

Here are first stills from the upcoming MBC weekend drama All That Glitters (perhaps also translated Twinkle Twinkle), which stars Kim Hyun-joo (Partner) as a workaholic careerwoman.

This is a drama that has me particularly interested despite the ordinariness of the plot description — a success story of a woman who rebounds after her life is flipped upside-down — because I have a special place in my heart for the director, Noh Do-chul. He directed one of my favorite dramas, Soulmate, as well as the quirky vampire comedy Hello, Franceska, both of which showcase his zippy directing style and fantastic taste in eclectic indie, alternative, and world music. On top of that, writer Bae Yu-mi has written some heartwarming, comedic dramas like Who Are You and Really Really Like You.

The drama held its script reading recently, and filmed the scene pictured here in Paju on the 14th. This restaurant is the site of the first clash between our heroine (Kim Hyun-joo) and leading man Kim Seok-hoon (Iron Empress), who naturally get off on the wrong foot.

Her character is focused on her career to the exclusion of all else, including a love life, although she does come to the restaurant to meet a blind date. She mistakes the editor played by Kim Seok-hoon as her date, and unleashes a torrent of criticism on him. It’s only after he sets her straight in his brusque way that she realizes her mistake, to her mortification.

Other cast members include veteran actors Go Du-shim (Marry Me), Park Jung-soo (Queen of Reversals), and Gil Yong-woo (Loving You a Thousand Times). It’s also the debut drama for Park Yoo-hwan, who may be better known as the younger brother of Sungkyunkwan Scandal lead and idol singer Micky Yoochun.

All That Glitters will follow Gloria on Saturdays and Sundays, and airs its first episode on February 12. Now, if only it weren’t 50 episodes…!

  3. jorosh

too long…they’ll probably end up cutting it shorter, too!!! lol

  4. Kender

Wait, Chunnie’s brother’s going into acting? Interesting.

Considering how much I loved Who Are You and Soulmates and liked Really Really Like you and Hello Franceska on the occasions I watched them, I’m actually looking forward to this.

    Although..50 eps.. *whines*

  5. billydbeagle

Am not a fan of Kim Hyun Joo’s acting, but I do find her to be very beautiful.

  6. mskololia

I’m glad ppl are working hard, but 50 epis is a no-no right now….

Sadly all of the weekend shows are slowly moving to a standard 50 episode run.

The downside with 50 episodes dramas is that we’re bound to given an overabundance of background information before any real story begins (one which the audience can really get behind). Just look at the current weekend dramas for examples.

I usually like the 50 episode dramas, but I am taking a break from them because I have to now prioritize on school work. Right now, I am watching 3 kdramas, so after this batch, its no new kdrama for me. Sigh!!!! but such is life.

    Awww! It’s Kim Suk-hoon! And Kim Hyun-joo! <3
    SO callback to the 90s!
I've commited to two too many MBC weekend dramas for Kim Suk-hoon and although I know he's a good actor he just falls disappointingly flat in them. But this OTP I gotsta see, dammit!

I like how the cardigan makes her boobies look big

lately dramas are up to 50 epis long or longer, i wonder why coz it takes me forever to follow such a lengthy drama but i may just be saying this coz i’ve watched some other ones longer than this one :) i guess i’m just raving but i’ll watch this for sure coz i like the lead actor Kim seok heon since his Tomato drama fame, etc. can’t wait tho to see this :)

Director of Soulmate and writer of Who Are You? :O Kind of want to watch this… but.. 50 episodes is such a big commitment =/

  13. 13 Ladymoonstone143

    50 episodes…hmmm..no thank you.

But SG was a weekend drama, why not 50? Imagine having Binnie for 30 more episodes? But the poor guy needed so much rest before he goes to the military though…arggh…SG widrawal…:(

That does not sound like a premise that will carry us through 25 weeks.

  15. 15 danna

i dont know who i love more here….Kim Hyun Joo (my love), the director of Soulmate or the writer of Who Are You….i really really want to watch this now…after sitting through one 63 eps drama last year this shoudnt be a biggie but its at the wrong time of the year…:(…maybe i could marathon it after its done airing

What’s going on? I’m not used to weekend dramas being this interesting. I’m enjoying King G, Flames, and SG. I’m interested in New Story and now this. Is Sat/Sun the new Wed/Thurs? Once again, if only they were not so long. :(

I lover the actress in Insoon is Pretty and loved Who Are You, Souolmate & Really Really Like You. Hopefully this will get subbed so I can watch it. I never thought I will watch k-dramas 50-or so episodes long but I watched Sons of Sol Pharmacy and I enjoyed it so I’ll give this a try. The only thing is… Sons of Sol Pharmacy has plenty of storylines so it filled up the 50 episodes but this one … I hope there is enough meat in the story to warrant 50 episodes.

    Looking forward to it.

    Thanks jb.

ANOTHER 50-episode-r that sounds interesting! ahhh i’m torn!

  21. 21 blahblahblah

Yoochun’s bro is gonna be in this? Ooh, I wanna see what
    his acting will be like.

I loved the music in Soulmate, it was actually my first
korean drama :D normally I wouldn’t be interested in this, but I catch the first couple eps then see how it goes I guess

  22. 22 doozy

    Thanks for the update, javabeans!
If All That Glitters is decent, it might be the first 50-episode drama that I’d watch.

  23. 23 elexis

soulmate’s director? I loooved soulmate! But 50 episodes is way too long for my attention span I’m afraid XD

  24. 24 Y_can't_i_eat_chili?

I can’t wait. Yoohwan’s going to be in it. I bet the older brother is proud! :) Good luck younger brother! on another note, I totally loved Soulmate.

  25. 25 thoughtbubble

I really like Kim Seok-Hoon’s look here – it reminds me of his clean-cut look and role circa his “Tomato” days (with Kim Hee-Sun) back in the 90′s.

  26. 26 Qwenli

is this what you call a makjang?

  27. 27 alice

I had such a little girl crush on Kim Suk-hoon when he was on Tomato with Kim Hee-sun. Anyone remember that drama?

  28. 28 lovebee

I’ve watched a lot of Kim Hyun Joo’s shows and I really find her pretty! Would love to watch this but 50 eps @_@

  29. 29 Lady Seoul

    50 Episodes?! Dayum!
I was even really excited, because I really love the lead actress, *heavy sighs!*

  30. 30 dinna

Wow, 50 episodes !! But it doesn’t matter as long as there is Kim Hyun Joo in it. I’ve been waiting her next project since Partner, and i will not miss this one ^-^

  31. 31 jumanah

for me its better if its over 20 and less than 50 the story develope very will , most the drama with 16 episode go fast no chance for the charcter to develop or the story to have a good plote

  32. 32 Hen2

50 is long…but this one is worth it!
