Gu Hye-sun sets up film production company

Actress-director Gu Hye-sun has established her own company, Gu Hye-sun Film, and had in fact set it up back when she was filming her first feature film, Magic.
The company is more of a formality than anything, as it employs no workers and is not planning to operate on a grand scale. It’s a one-woman operation for Gu, who will produce and film her projects under its name, which will offer her a measure of legal/business protection.
Currently, Gu is working on her second feature film, called Peach Tree, which is about Siamese twins and has cast Ryu Deok-hwan and Nam Sang-mi. I guess her vampire romance is still in the works, while her drama series The Musical has yet to find a broadcaster or airdate.
Okay, so since this is a Gu Hye-sun post, the commentary must naturally follow the pattern:
- Omg, she’s so talented!

He has never said anything that anyone can pin on him as incontrovertible evidence of being full of himself, but the critique that came out after his novel was published was that he considered himself rather self-important, especially as read through his novel. And I'd agree a bit based on some interviews I've read, but I think his sense of self-importance isn't without merit. See below.
Anyhow, don't press for specifics since my opinion is the result of various impressions commingled over the years.
And more importantly, anyone who accomplishes that much cannot but be very self-oriented, in both good and bad ways; otherwise, it's impossible to get everything done. That he feels this obviously ongoing need to push himself after pushing himself and pushing himself some more speaks of his Being and the fulfillment/ongoing self-actualization of his Being taking up the majority of his energy. I wouldn't want to be an intimate in his life, but I will gladly enjoy the fruit of his labors/obsessive self-cultivation.

What happened to female solidarity? Why does JB have to got to such lengths as employing the "world's cutest puppies" to keep comments from tearing this woman apart. She is a young beautiful woman aspiring to do more and be more than just a pin-up girl in a culture that does not think that a beautiful young girl should try to do much more than just be beautiful. If anything we should be applauding her and wishing her nothing but the best. As a former TV producer who has dealt with gender discrimination in the work place I can tell you it is not easy to take on the "Old boy" network and I for one think she is wonderful for even trying to accomplish more than smiling for the camera. Brava!

There is enough adversity for women in this world, especially in the business of entertainment where much of the audience believes you're entertainment enough just by looking good.
To the antis- At the very least she is putting her own POV on the content she puts out- and if you cannot support that because you are not found of her work then why do you spend so much effort into trying to tear her down? Personally when I'm not a fan of someone I remove them from my notice by not visiting articles about them. I see their headline on a site and skip it by moving on to the next one.
Not to say that everyone's impute on a thread should be all love and rainbows- but posts like "she sucks at acting" or "I hate her and wishes she would go away" are empty and provides nothing to the discourse. Critique should be helpful and point out what can be improved.

Gender shouldn't be a basis to support anyone, in any field. You seep what you sow, therefore you are credited as far as your work reflects.
If an *it* approaches any field with the intensity, passion and hunger for knowledge and display works that reflects it, then I believe he/she/it/alien deserves my support.
With that said, I think she would have garner more support has she polished each individual skill before spreading herself. Though it seems she's settling into the director's seat these days.... and that actress role in the waiting as well.

JB, thanks for this article, and thanks for the totally spot-on Gu Hye-sun Post Pattern! Loved it, and it's pretty much the reason why I tend to side step any Gu Hye-sun articles. I am a fan of hers. I think she's a beautiful and exceptionally smart person who is at heart an artist, and she's expressing herself through these different mediums. She puts herself out there with all of her endeavors, knowing full well that she's going to catch a bunch of guff over it from her pathetic antis. I respect that and admire her. I look forward to seeing her in front of the camera for her next drama.
