So MBC’s got this extra-super-secret drama planned, called Strangers 6 (I’m not going to get into how I wish it were called 6 Strangers, or…I guess I just did.) Anyway, it’s an international co-production between China, Japan, and Korea, and nobody, even the PD or writer, has been named, supposedly due to its TOP SECRET status. What, is it a front for an Asian plot to take over the world?
But now the first name has been attached to the project, and Oh Ji-ho (Chuno, Sector 7) has been cast as the lead. I’m gonna go ahead and say it’s a step up from selling man kimchi, mostly because I can’t say “man kimchi” without feeling a little dirty.
He’ll be playing an intelligence agent, one of a group of international specialists who come together to form ‘Strangers 6.’ So using my highly developed math skills, probably two from China, two from Japan, two from Korea? What I can gather from the TOP SECRET plot: there will be international crises, and the heroic averting of said crises. So, it’s Runaway-meets-Athena-meets-IRIS-meets-Ocean’s Eleven-meets-The Avengers? Will Stephen Colbert be in it?
Oh Ji-ho said, “It’s such an honor to be able to work on a project with the best staff and actors from Korea, China, and Japan. I’m anticipating a meaningful project with the best representative actors and staff from all three countries. I’ll do my best for this drama.”
Strangers 6 plans to air on MBC sometime this year. Everything else…is a mystery.

I hope Takeshi Kaneshiro is in this. If he is, I will die of happiness…but that’s probably too much to ask (and I’m going with him coming from China regardless of the Japanese name, but you only need to Google to understand why…if you don’t already know him).
I hope this super secret drama isn’t going to fail miserably. I feel like if something is hyped so much then it just never seems as good as it should be…unless we’re talking “Lord of the Rings”, my no-so-secret obsession.
Takeshi can rep China AND Japan!
What a great idea!
Takeshi can rep the world, in my book.
Oh, I like that idea ….
I would die of happiness if that happened. I love that man with a slightly stalkerish passion.
I’ve been in love with him since I was twelve (or maybe it was thirteen?) and saw the movie “The Returner”. The movie was really awkward/bad; the only redeeming factor was Takeshi and I fell in love with him. I think I watched that movie every day for like a month (or however long it was on cable…)
I even have a collage that is just pictures of Takeshi…or at least I did. I think it got lost when my parents and I moved; I don’t remember seeing it when I unpacked my room. Dammit.
Me too! I loved The Returner for all is badness and Takeshi awesomeness combined. I always think of The Returner when I think Takeshi. That, and Onimusha. And his sexy voice is just *growl*. XD
Takeshi IN please….
Speaking of Kaneshiro, I’ve always thought he and Oh Jiho can pass as brothers!
OH! I love Takeshi. He is an awesome actor. I want him in this series.
he is? that’s news. i’ve always thought he’s average.
It all depends on the person watching. I think some actors are average who others think are amazing and vice versa.
What’s that cliche? “It’s all in the eyes of the beholder” or something like that?
true that, but you’d have considerably less trouble getting people to agree to tony leung being a fantastic actor than kaneshiro takeshi.
he was hot in house of flying daggers but I kind of hope he’s not in this (now that Oh Ji-Ho is confirmed) because then, I’d probably keep getting weird saeguk flashes lol
watashi mooo <3
Soooo yummy! As for the country he would represent?…. Weeeell, I wouldn’t want him to choose between either of his heritages. Can’t he represent both? XP
Strangers 6…….hmmmm. Maybe it has some hidden code.
Will Tony Leung Chiu Wai be in it to rep China?! Or Andy Lau?!
And I like this idea ….
Then, Oh Ji Ho will seem ever more wooden. Those two actors leave others in the dust, hands down. And I’ll have Infernal Affairs in my head the whole time.
Seriously, no other spy espionage drama/movie has ever lived up to Infernal Affairs (how hot was Tony Leung, seriously?) in my opinion. The plot was tight, the acting was so spot on, and you just got swept in the suspense of the movie.
Sigh.
I didn’t even like IA 2 or 3 that much. Shawn Yue versus Tony Leung? No competition.
I do kinda hope TL is pulled in, but if he is, well, good luck to OJH. I like the man, but he is not what one would term a good actor.
If Tony Leung, for some ungodly reason, (but not Andy Lau) participates in this drama, I’ll have Wong Kar Wai in my head. In the Mood for Love or Happy Together anyone? Except, then I’ll have an Ionesco moment whenever Oh Ji Ho wanders on screen.
“Everything else…is a mystery.”
Hahahahaha! Ah, girlfriday…your humor makes my day. ^_^
Ahhh! Takashi Kaneshiro… If only *sighs*
maybe it’d be 6 actors who look good but… can’t really act? that could be a novel theme…
I know; and if it’s a serious spy film, Oh Ji-Ho probably wont even get to save it with his winsome smile (dimples).
Cause you know, he’ll be acting with his eyes, something he learned to do during Chuno. Snark.
(But in all honesty, Oh Ji Ho as a specimen of the male species, I ain’t slagging.)
I want the impossibly cool Tony Leung too. Takeshi and OJH are incredibly handsome but I find them both a little vanilla.
Stars do not make the story. Wonder why would he sign on without knowing the script, who the other stars and pd are.
Just because the public don’t know who the PD and writer are, doesn’t mean that Oh Ji-ho wasn’t made aware of who they were. I highly doubt any accomplished actor would accept being part of a drama without reading the script first.
What language will they use for this drama???? Korean… Chinese… Japanese?????
So, it’s Runaway-meets-Athena-meets-IRIS-meets-Ocean’s Eleven-meets-The Avengers? Will Stephen Colbert be in it? LOL
imagine ur self reading the screen with different language.
they will use a secret language
Like body language ? In the form of men running around topless and taking nth number of showers?
men cavorting in their bday suits is not a secret language, any woman can understand that.
the secret language will be men and women staring at each other, no talking, just staring at each other – sometimes they have surprised look on their faces, sometimes they are smiling, sometimes brooding like hell, but most of the time they have no facial expression at all – but all of them understand each other……
Almost choked here from laughing.
i’m getting a little tired of all the big budget spy-action-crime-thriller dramas I feel tlike there’s more glitz and glam going than actual story telling….arent there other ideas for a pan asian drama?…that said i am curious to see how this turns out…also since this is a co production will we be have a mixed set of writers and PD’s…now that i’d like to see
I’m trying really hard to not state the obvious, but what weird language combo are they going to pull? Is everyone in the drama miraculously going to be able to understand Korean, Chinese and Japanese, and probably English as well??
it’d be great if it was set in Singapore or something… it’d make an easier blend
Language isn’t really that much of a barrier when it comes to tv and movie entertainment. Unless they plan to make it a long series, or aiming to be a blockbuster, they’ll do the “oh they understand each other well” setup.
If they want it be super realistic like most fantasy stories, then they won’t understand each other easily… but for a TV series? That’s air time
I doubt they’ll go that way.
Maybe they’ll employ the BabelFish…
Too Hitchhiker’s?
Nothing is ever too Hitchhiker’s!
Now, I’d pay dearly for a Korean or pan-Asian film version of that book.
Too bad Fantastic Four was taken. How about “Stupendous 6″ instead?
(blup-blup… close jaw… stops drooling at pic)
I’ve love to have Tony Leung and Takashi Kaneshiro too.
But this is impossible as they not acted in a drama for more than 10 years.
Anyway, Tony should filming WKW movie now?
OH JI HOO!!
I don’t really care for dramas with secret intellegence’s themes hence I’m not watching Athena, Iris, Sector 7, Alia, etc. The reason being: they’re all pale in comparison to La Femme Nikita. Nothing compare to La Femme Nikita! It’s just perfect!
But this one I will see. How could I not see it when my man is the lead in it?
Looking forward for the big secret to unveil!
*Already giddy with happiness*
omg, I laughed so hard at your Stephen Colbert reference. SOO funny.
Honestly, the drama sounds kind of stupid, so I probably won’t check it out unless you and JB do recaps and insist it’s worth our time…
Oh, if only Stephen Colbert were in it– that would be totally awesome! I’m sure in his mind, he’s qualified– he went through some basic training in Iraq, battled Rain in a dance-off, and was singin’ in Korean a while back….

Han Chae Young is added to the cast of Strangers 6 as the female lead.
Official press conf.will be on 3rd March
Really? I can’t believe they are casting Han Chae-young and Oh Ji-ho to “represent” korea in this super-duper-three-countries project… I don’t know if I should laugh or die in embarrassment. I doubt Han Chae-young can pull off this role. At least they both look pretty. Sigh, who am I kidding, this sounds like a disaster in the making and all I know is the basic theme and two actors.
HCY can act ok depending on the role given to her… BUT I have no idea what her character’s role is.
The site is in korean. or maybe the character hasn’t been described yet. Since, it’s, you know… a SUPER SECRET DRAMA.
Yap. Oh Ji Hoo and Han Chae Young aren’t even korea best actors asset. Their acting leaves much to be desired. Maybe they picked because they fluid in English, Chinese, or Japan language?
I’m wary about this project. So many things could go wrong. Hmmm we’ll see.
is this a comedy?
If they added Kim Sung soo, Korea would be really well-represented in the ‘beefcake’ dept.
hahah! Well, Korea then would be taking a Ken & Barbie approach to self-representation.
as long as they all take on missions in speedos, while moonlighting as chefs of their indigenous signature dish. then yes please!
KimuTaku, please!
yes, kimutaku. but then he’ll end up being the shortest but it’s ok. his voice will drown the rest of them!
I’ve seen each character speak in their separate languages and the voice of the actors dubbed afterwards, or have subs tailored to the region it’s airing (so, say China would sub/dub the parts in Korean/Japanese but leave the Mandarin). Or they could all BE spies from their respective region and have some sort of interpreter or subs (OMG, bonding scenes over language differences ala Kim Sam Soon would totally rock!).
I don’t know, they may even decide to use English, depending on the fluency of the actors… The dub/subs thing might work best, though.
girlfriday, This post by you is the best yet! I was laughing so loud that I woke up the rest of the house.
I agree with the other comment about big-budget, super-hyped blockbusters that fizzles out. It’s like the production spends more effort on the build-up than on the actual production.
To be honest, I hope that Kaneshiro, Lau and Leung are not in it because each of them are too fine of an actor to be saddled with a disappointing drama.
i want daniel wu! evnthough he was the bad guy, i loved him to bits in the new police story with jackie chan
Oooo, I want Sexy 6 or 6 Sexy whatever.
Erm. No. If you want to do it, do it properly MBC. This suspense is just too…lame, honestly.
no..no.. han chae young..she is too pretty but..her acting is flat..no expression…
Strangers 6,” which will air in the latter half the year, tells the story of six individuals from Korea, Japan and China assigned by the highest level authorities of their respective countries to protect the three countries’ joint economic area from being interfered by an organization.
this is the story some other blog called it a joint headache and I do agree
imma be shallow and say – thank you GF for the delicious photo
It would be interesting and really great if a couple of the strangers were women! I’m tired of women as accessories in these types of shows. Women can save the world too!
You said it!
I can’t stand it when women are just accessories in action films.
The world needs more actresses as kick-ass spies/action stars/superheroes.
I’m looking at you Kim So-yeon.
I really don’t feel like big names like Tony Leung or at least those with international fame (by this I mean… Hollywood) are probably going to be in this. As much as we would like that, but reality speaking… probs not.
Also, I too am sick of the spy genre. Why the infatuation with that genre?? It’s almost like they just discovered it. My problem is the lack of real, tight suspense. Like the adrenaline rush I get from just watching 24. Looks like another project I’m not-so-looking-forward-to..
My happiness will be complete if they will add Ah In to the drama….lol
Stephen Colbert would definitely make me see this movie…. otherwise… eh.
Haha ASIANS TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! XD
Looking forward to it ^^
The bad guys are in… enhance… enhance… enhance… AUSTRALIA! Lets go international spy team! To the jet!(coughs)(secretly hopes there’s a jet that flies out of a mountain or something)
I’d be more amazed if Japan got someone like Okada Junichi or Hiroshi Abe over Kimutaku. Kimura is just too much of a given in this situation…boring.
if only Joe Odagiri is in..i’m dead..Oh JiHo is making me delirious already…
Another spy drama? I was so disappointed with the maga project in the past that I don’t really have good feeling about this.
Everything else…is a mystery.
haha
and…colbert ftw!
Omo…Omo…
