    hey everyone!!!! happy weekend!!!!
soooooo, I’ve finally caught up on all the Dream High episodes, up to 11, and now TOTALLY CAN’T WAIT for the 12th!!!!!!!!! i must say, I never thought a guy could appeal to me again after falling in love with Moon Jae Shin (in Sungkyunkwan Scandal, played by Yoo Ah In, a great actor, by the way)
Well, Song Sam Dong has definitely won me over! (played by Kim Soo Hyun, who is, I must admit, as talented an actor as Yoo Ah In)
Needless to say I am rooting for his happy ending, and I hope that he gets the girl AND the awesome music career, because, well, or else……….
As for the drama itself, really it’s just awesome! I love all the side stories and subplots, and the characters are done quite well, without seeming forced (except for Taecyeon, because I happen to think he sucks as an actor-and no, I’m no anti of his either) and even thought a scenario is sometimes over the top, it’s the kind that you don’t question because you know it has to be that way. The strengths are definetely the character relationships and character developments, which seem real and make you feel warm inside, like Oh Hyuk with his students. I think the actors, writers, and director should really congratulate themselves on that.
Also, I have been keeping up with My Princess as usual, and I like it. It’s got a light romantic comedy air and the princess drama adds some darkness and mystery, enough to give the plot interest and thickness, but not so much it feels bogged down. I like how the actors pull off their characters naturally, and the story develops nicely. I really like this drama, and I’m glad it hasn’t disappointed.

  2. 52 @.@

Oh, and is Paradise Ranch any good? What’s it about, and what’s gone down in the episodes so far? I don’t plan on watching it, simply because the initial plot description and pics didn’t interest me, but, I could change my mind if I like what others tell me. So, be honest, if you’ve seen it and lay out the good and the bas. Thanks!!!

    • 52.1 Jomo

I’m watching, and I like a lot of what I see, but mainly because of Joo Sang Wook as Seo Yoon Ho.

What a face! I love his face. He gets to be the bad guy, the nice guy, the rich guy, the mad guy, the good guy, the sad guy. Someone mentioned he just does’t seem to match the younger actors in the story. It’s as if they are on the same set, but in different shows.

The story is a piece of tissue kept together by duck tape.
It’s almost as if they had this meeting:
We need to write a plot around getting caught naked, getting caught in a closet, getting caught kissing, getting caught hugging, etc, go!

We are seeing Changmin’s development as an actor each week. He has improved; it helps that his character gets to be “better” too. He is completely miscast; he should never have agreed to take this role.

Lee Yeon Hee is adorable as the girl stuck in the middle. I want things to work out well for her. She is more aggressive than most female leads. I like that she is not afraid to say how she feels.

We still have the mystery of “why did they get divorced?” and once that is solved I guess our OTP will get back together. But I don’t want that. I want JSW on screen all the time. I want this to be the first Kdrama where the girl ends up with the 2nd lead!

    • 52.2 Anon106

I see Jomo’s already given you a rundown of the show and I whole-heartedly agree about the plot. There is…not much holding it together.

A young couple gets married, they suddenly get divorced, six years pass and they meet each other again as he (Changmin as Dong Joo) and his business buy the land she (Lee Yeon Hee as Da Ji) lives on to make a new resort. The second leads are around as people who are working on/invested in the resort. And then for some reason, horses are also part of the story.

The characters are okay but I think I remember someone mentioning in the last open thread that there are a lot of moments that are just painfully awkward. And it’s true. It throws you off from caring about the characters and you feel jarred off from the storytelling even though you can tell that the actors are trying hard to be earnest.

They’re starting to include the backstory of the marriage and what happened between Dong Joo and Da Ji and paralleling that with the current conflict with the leads and second leads. It’s not as compelling as My Princess and Dream High but I have watched more of it than Athena. But I think that’s because I’m a sucker for romances. Right now, I’d give it a 4 out of 10.

      • 52.2.1 Jomo

        Favorite line of your review:
for some reason, horses are also part of the story

and the cutest pony you have ever seen!

By the way, what is the name of the horse? I have seen it translate as Forest, Proust and Paloost, or something like that.

        • 52.2.1.1 Anon106

I think the animals help make it bearable. Even if I don’t know what they’re there for. :)

I thought it was Paulist. But that’s only based on what I hear. And as far as I can tell, the small black horse is named Pony.

  3. 53 Kristal

    @ Supah and @ Janna

Where you guys be?! It’s not an open thread for me without your posts! Get to it.

    • 53.1 supah

      Hi Kristal,
Sorry about that, life’s been kinda dramatic lately.
Like being the only member of staff on site as a mother was leaving the building with her 2yr old, who stumbled and hit his head on our sliding doors and cut his head. There was so much blood and his cries and his panic-stricken mother;s cries — I kinda fell to the floor in a daze, not knowing WTF to do.
And then… it hit me. Here comes the crazy part: my mind actually flitted back to Mr Gang Mo Ree! Of all people. Remember his constant fights leading to his constant head injuries in the earlier episodes? That’s right! Head injuries — medical explanation says: lots of blood, yet not that serious! (Unless of course there’s a fractured skull in question, which thankfully wasn’t the case). And then suddenly, I knew what I had to do. Et viola.
But the way the poor little thing was crying though… :(

And then I came back home all shattered and trapped my little finger in the door. I’ve never known a greater pain.

Anyway, life’s dramas aside: still watching Dae Jo-yeong and it’s all good, including Kim Jung-hyun’s appearance. I think he’ll be back, too.

Saengchori 15 was non-stop hilarity. Just brilliant! Just one minor gripe about them introducing a very crass kind of humour in one scene, but otherwise it was great. Also a ton of characters resurfaced that had been MIA for absolute ages.

Now to watch Gisaeng Tales, Duo and Sparkling. I’ll be back. xox

      • 53.1.1 Kristal

I shouldn’t laugh because a child was hurt but that fact you thought of Mr Gangmo Ree made me do it!

I used to work at a nursing home and this one lady fell down and hit her head one night when I was the only one there. I walked around the corner to see this blood dripping from the gash in her head and her looking dazed with her arms out in front of her. My mind immediately flashed to zombies! BBRAIINNNSSS!! ;)

I would have rather though of Gangmo at that moment.

I still haven’t gotten past episode 12 of Saengchori! I need to check and see if any more eps are subbed.

Gotta get back into DJY mode too as I have neglected it all week. I’m still probably ahead of YOU though. Heh

        • 53.1.1.1 supah

Oh snap! I’ve worked in many nursing homes too. Only as placements during my student nursing days, but then I dropped out after I accepted I was far too clumsy, and not confident enough to have people depending on me with their lives. As regretful as I am, I can’t go back now, I no longer have a cast-iron stomach and working in offices means I’ve become used to sitting on my backside for many long hours.
But from my fuzzy memory of learning this stuff in uni, I was able to remember the first aid procedure, otherwise I wouldn’t have had a clue as I’ve not been put in that kind of situation for almost 7-8 years.

But yeah, Gang-mo used to be able to sit through dinner dates with head wounds and only when he felt the moisture from his neck did he know he had them. As dramatic as it may have seemed back then, that is genuinely the nature of head wounds, because it essentially only feels like a shallow cut.

Anyway, sorry to be boring you there.
SC is SO GOOD! Especially episode 13 onwards.
I can’t believe there’s only five more episodes and then it’ll all be over. Feels too sudden.

DJY is still good, but I’m beginning to notice things that are potentially bothersome, the writing is still great it’s just something’s amiss. I know what it is, but I wouldn’t want to draw too much attention to it just yet. I’ll watch some more to see how I feel about it and get back to you.

    • 53.2 Janna

GETTING TO IT, AND LIKE YEAH

Only episode 12 of Saengchori? Well, you get to savor every stupid moment that much longer. I mean that in the best way. This week they went all out on their million won special effects budget*. I won’t spoil it but it’s.. a burning success. That.. no that’s just horrible writing right there. I shouldn’t have waited this long to reply on things. Honestly. I could of.. I could thought of something better by now.

*=that’s not a lot of dollar dollar bills y’all

      • 53.2.1 kay

seriously. that show makes me laugh like a crazy too many times in a single episode. i’m pretty bummed that it’s ending so soon. but those special effects were so awesome. ahahahahahaha i’m still laughing thinking about that scene

      • 53.2.2 supah

THAT was so hilarious btw, janna. I think episode 15 PWNed all other episodes for that alone. I mean, THAT’s how you write kdrama angst. That is how it’s done.

  4. 54 grateful1

I’m smiling cuz I noticed that 85% of the comments in this OT are replies to others’ comments…. :D

I’m also smiling cuz in order to calculate that, I typed “53 is what % of 349?” in the Google search box (knowing that you can enter basic math probs. and it’ll act as a calculator)– and the first three results it gave me were the Wikipedia entries for homosexuality, Adolf Hitler, and the Catholic Church– I kid you not!

    • 54.1 mud

Haha, I had to try the Google. Thanks for the discovery=) I also love OT for the actual conversations, where as other sites like allkpop only have “FIRST!” repeated a gajillion times.

    • 54.2 Viola

HAHAHAHA. pause. HAHAHAHAHa. I bet a conspiracy theorists would have a field day with this!! The true history of the world in hidden in the secret codes of the OT comments and response thread!! :) I am still giggling?

  5. 55 yellow_sunshine

so i wanted to ask dis question 4 quite sumetime…why does most of sageuk’s storyline revolve around king sado n stuff……(example-sungkyunwan scandal, hong gil dong, painter of wind).. why not about other kings of those historical period…(i dunno if ma question makes sense but i’ve watched onli a few historical dramas,n they all had king sado n his son,the king)

    • 55.1 yellow_sunshine

the era was joseon era and (slight error) the stories most of the time seem to be king Jeongjo related

    • 55.2 @.@

well, it is an intriguing episodes in korean history, what with the mystery of the betrayal and murder. i haven’t seen any sageuks (sungkyunkwan scandal is more of a trendy-sageuk), but i’m sure more of them are about other periods of korean history, and you simply haven’t seen them….either way, films and series tend to have their stories take place during times of change or when defining events occured, such as the Korean War (another commonly used theme for dramas), simply because it gives the story a more dramatic backdrop and allows for conflicts to be added to the characters

      • 55.2.1 yellow_sunshine

hmmmm….im getting what you are sayin, and you are right i haven’t watched many sageuks,so ma knowledge is limited thank you for the reply though..(“_’)t answers my question..

  6. 56 tinatot

im totally late with all my kdrama watching. what am i doing with my life and im missing episodes? hahaha. anyways… i was still able to watch this week’s dream high. woot woot! JINGUK and HYEMI for the win! that kiss i think seals the deal… but with the 11th episode… im back with square one again… what if hyemi realizes she is also in love with samdong? rawr. im going crazy thinking who’d end up with hyemi! darn.

atleast i have my milky couple to be sure with my happy ending :)

and shi saem and kang saem are totally hot for each other! i cant wait for them to be together hahaha. that would be epic!

and what’s with baek hee? i hope her role wouldnt bring her to hard rock bottom. that would be tragic. no redemption for those kind of characters. i dont want eunjung to be that antagonist who didn’t get a sympathy group at the end of the series. hahaha.

and dark samdong is HOT. a non-hyemi follower samdong… TRIPLE HOT :)

  7. 57 evelia

Wish a happy weekend for everyone!

  8. 58 applepie~

    Heyy~~
Whoaa.. I’ve been stalking dramabeans for the past..few years [how sad...] and this is my first time posting>< (I dont know how i sat through all those hours of obession and intermittent squeaking..)

    Welll…here I am-.- I feel like I should give some formal greeting…anyounghaseyo? Ehh…something like that. I'm not korean…

I've defected, you see XDD Taiwanese dramas just don't do it for me..

So, I've been watching Dream Highh:))) It's insanely addictivee~ I started -what?- three days ago? And I'm obsessively waiting for episode 12. Oh my. That looks really bad typed out. I need to control myself…

Is anyone else rooting for Jin Gook? I feel like the only one…basically everyone who comments on the recaps are for Sam Dong, so I've been too scared to comment=_=" THEYRE GONNA BRICK MEE.

    Anyway…bye, everyone!!

    • 58.1 Jomo

I am absolutely pulling for Jin Gook with every fiber of my being. Not because I think HM is the best girl for him, but because HE thinks HM is the best girl for him.

He is so happy when she is near him, and it doesn’t seem like anyone else can bring him that much joy and peace.

Sam Dong will put up a good fight, better than most 2nd leads, JG and HM’s childhood story together has more weight on this romance see saw than the SD/HM “meet cute.”

      • 58.1.1 applepie~

I knoww! Jin Gook seems like he really needs her…poor, tortured boy. TT.TT

Also, the drama seems like its setting him up as the main lead to me. They have all those ‘moments’, like…when they both noticed the ferris wheel. I might just be biased thoughXD, because once i fixate myself on one person as the main lead, I can’t manage to bring myself around to anyone else, and Jin Gook showed up a few episodes before Sam Dong, hehe:)

Plus, I’ve always like the dark hottie more than the nice guy;)

      • 58.1.2 Lahlita

Whoa, whoa, whooooa! *Lahlita runs in, skids to stop* Kim Soo-hyun is the male lead, yo! As to whether or not Hye-mi ends up with Sam-dong or Jin-gook? Eh. I can see it going either way, although I have a feeling it’s going to be Sam-dong. But Kim Soo-hyun is definitely the male lead. The treatment of the kiss between Jin-gook and Hye-mi shows that. As opposed to focusing on what it meant to the two people actually kissing, the end of the episode highlighted the reaction of the boy who watched them, and the entire next episode shifted to the mental and emotional struggle of the rejected boy, along with the girl’s determination to bring him back to the family they created. Sam-dong may or may not get the girl, but he’s definitely the male lead here.

That being said, I quite love Jin-gook. Taecyeon is very, very good looking. I just wish he did Jin-gook more justice.

        • 58.1.2.1 Lahlita

Yikes, I hope I didn’t sound rude here. That wasn’t my intention and I apologize if I did.

Disclaimer: I’m assuming Kim Soo-hyun is the lead because he was the first cast, he’s the only true actor of the bunch, and because he’s managed by Bae Yong-joon. Plus it appears that his storyline is all weighty now. But mostly I assumed he was the lead because of this post right here:
          http://www.dramabeans.com/2010/10/kim-soo-hyun-signs-on-as-dream-highs-lead/
So if I’m wrong and he’s actually not the lead, um, BLAME JAVABEANS! :D

        • 58.1.2.2 applepie~

Heeheh:) Well…seeing as I have no experience, you’re probably right. The main lead sometimes doesn’t get the girl? O.o I feel so innexperienced.. Like I said, I just take the first guy that shows up and assume he’s the lead…=_=”

To be honest, I wasn’t as angstily immersed in Episode 11 as everone else seemed to be. I think it was mainly because it was centered around Sam Dong (who IS a very, very good actor…) and I was already completely for Jin Gook.

I like Jin Gook as a character, but i agree, Taecyeon’s acting needs a little work.

          ….-pause-..

          BUT HE’S SO PRETTY.

        • 58.1.2.3 tinatot

i think… its both samdong and jinguk as the two main guy leads. its just that they have two different story paths… samdong is meant for solo stardom while jinguk is for the hyemi-loveline completion :)

    • 58.2 Viola

I am glad you finally delurked!! Hugs and welcome! :)

      \

      • 58.2.1 applepie~

‘delurked’XDD THANKYOUU. I would try something in korean again….but that would just be embarrassingX]

        • 58.2.1.1 Lahlita

Seconding Viola. Welcome to Open Thread, Applepie! There are lots of good eggs here. I lurked for six months before I jumped in, and the Open Threaders are some of the awesomest people you’ll ever “meet.”

          • 58.2.1.1.1 applepie~

            Thanksss:DD Glad to ‘meet’ you;)

XDD ‘applepie’…It feels kind of weird being called that-.- I was eating some when I decided to post…so I guess I’ll stick with it? I’m eating chili now…It would be too weird if i changed names according to what I was eating, right? X]]

          • 58.2.1.1.2 Lahlita

Well, it would help to keep it constant so people know who you are, but you’re always welcome to change. There was a poster on here who changed her name by posting for a about a month as (for example): Jingook-lover (aka Applepie). Then after a few weeks she dropped the Applepie and that’s how she maintained the chain of who she was. Still, it would crack me up to see a whole bunch of food appear on here based on whatever you were eating. Hee.

  9. 59 supah

    OK, lemme one time this:

    Duo:
Good. Liked it. Not completely blown away but it was instant-like. Plus, happy to see so many familiar faces, like No Young-hak as the younger Chun Jung-myung, Yoon Yoo-sun and Lee Moon-shik.
(Mad love for the Giant alumnae. Yay!)

    Sparkling:
Uh. Ordinary. Kind of expected that but had still hoped it would have an added spark that would lure me to continue with the series, alas spark factor was nil, nada. So I FFed the majority.
And yet another example of an extraordinary actor having to fit into a very ordinary mould to make rent money. Yes, I’m speaking of Jung Tae-woo.
But I LOVED how he did it. They were going to make him a losery sucker, so he’s playing a really villiany losery sucker, with fire in his eyes, nerdy specs and braces. Proof: http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Drama%20Special/1-3.jpg
    Amazeballs! <3

    Gisaeng Tales:
OK, here's where I establish that I WILL follow this series to the very death.
Episode 7 brought the character depth.
Plus it was so damn endearing and heartwrenching. <3

    • 59.1 Kender

I know, this episode of Gisaeng sealed the deal. I don’t think I’d be able to drop it even if I wanted to now. ♥

SONJA. Just..I just..OMG I want to hug him. DDDX

And I’m totally intrigued by the way things are going. Damo dumped Rara already? I was expecting them to carry on for a while! I do love how she immediately decided he must be gay, then went around telling everybody that. And Saran’s face when Damo told her he’d dumped Rara was priceless. (Also, giving his flowers back to his grandmother? Golden.)

Haven’t watched Duo yet, but it’s definitely on my list. The Twitter ladies are raving about it, and I trust their judgement..

      • 59.1.1 supah

        OMG! Sonja! :(
I wanted to hug him so badly.

Yeah, I kind of started watching this show: a) for Im Hyuk (the veteran actor playing Damo’s father, who’s just so magical in everything) and the general premise.
I was disgruntled at first over Im Hyuk’s character but now I LOVE IT! And I’m satisfied with the general premise so yeah, I ain’t quitting now.

There were SO many many winning moments in the last episode, like a dignified Rara walking out on Damo without trying too hard to win him over or clinging on to him (though we know she’s too concieted for that — j’adore!). Then calling him gay! Hahaha!
Rara’s real dad! OMG! WHY am I loving so many parents, when I’m usually indifferent?

Saran returning Damo’s flowers — zing!
        Yeah, overall, lots of goodness.

        • 59.1.1.1 Kender

I’m even shallower, I watched it for the promise of pretty pretty hanboks in a modern setting and because I saw your post on a previous OT talking about how much you were liking Sung Hoon. :P

Y’know, I was completely prepared to hate Rara since she’s the love rival and a total brat, but the more we see her the more I love her. I mean, yeah she’s spoiled, but then you look at the way she’s grown up, with doting grandparents and parents and an aunt and uncle who appear to love her more than their own son (ohhhhhhh I can’t wait for her to find out the truth) and more money than she knows what to do with… I can totally see where she’s coming from. And she’s conceited, but hey, she’s a pretty girl, and I’m sure she’s been told so her entire life. I bet boys have been falling all over her forever, so Damo not doing the same would definitely be a shock to her.

A little off-topic, but what’s Rara’s cousin’s name? Young-san? ‘Cause that’s what I’m hearing but I’ve seen people calling him Eo-san (which is his uncle’s name so I dunno) and Yeo-san and all sorts of stuff. And he’s not listed on the main site so I’m confused. I wonder if we’re ever actually going to see him, or if he’ll remain an abstract concept..

I do love Rara’s real parents. Her real mother (we need a shorter way of identifying them haha) is so flighty and kind of ditzy, but it’s obvious she really does regret giving her child up (and I’m still having issues figuring out why they did that in the first place; mentally I get it, but emotionally it makes no sense whatsoever). And I’d thought her real dad didn’t care, but that scene where he went to go see her when he was drunk, telling the driver that he was going to see his daughter.. Omo, broke my heart a little.

Can’t wait for today’s episode. Will Damo and Saran finally start dating? Is that kiss in the preview another fantasy or is it actually real? What is Rara’s adopted dad going to say to the limping kitchen lady when he runs into her at Buyonggak? I need to knowwwwwww~

          • 59.1.1.1.1 supah

Aww, hahaha! Yeah, I kinda took to him right away…

I have NO idea about this cousin, he’s been mentioned but I didn’t really pay much attention. This should be interesting. Do you think he’ll be Saran’s (other) pursuer? Will he be HOT? *giddy*

Can’t wait for the next episode too! Wheee! xD
The kiss in the previews is definitely fantasy, the screen was kind of fuzzy! Grrrr! Right? Haha!

I’m just thinking, in a 16 episode miniseries, the OTP have to have kissed by episode 7. In a 50 episode series, it’s usually anything between 12-18 (but then the couple don’t even meet till about episode 10 whereas these two met straightaway). They’d better not torture us too long! Gaaahhh!

I’m wondering whether the head cook’s limp is part of her character and will have a backstory of its own or whether the actress herself has a limp? Btw, I’m really liking the kitchen scenes, they feel like real kitchen scenes now, before they seemed a bit pretentious, but now we’re seeing real cooking and bubbling pots.

          • 59.1.1.1.2 supah

Oh and don’t ask how I discovered this but do you know the guy who’s playing the washed-out singer and freeloader at Byeonggak IS actually a washed-out pop/trot singer from the 80s?
OK, we’d better get some songs out of him, he can’t be sitting around with a guitar for nothing.

          • 59.1.1.1.3 Kender

He’s very magnetic, I’m not surprised. I liked him immediately too. (The posters do NOT do him justice.)

Oh god, if Young-san is Saran’s other pursuer that means there’ll be incest-y nonsense. I dunno if I can handle that, I might die. (I’m still assuming she’s the daughter of the older brother and the kitchen lady.)

Haha yeah, that’s what I figure, but I wonder which of them is imagining it. If it’s Damo, it’s par for the course, but if it’s Saran and then she decides not to do it, it means a little more. :P

That kissing thing is true, but isn’t Saran supposed to enter Buyonggak at some point? Would she do it before or after (finally) kissing Damo? Would she do it as a response to objections from his family? Will she be pressured into it by someone, or will it be of her own free will? Are they just going to tease us about it and not actually have her enter after all? Because if so, I’m pissed off already. XD

I’m pretty sure the cook’s limp is part of her character. I’ve never actually seen any of her other dramas, but I don’t think the limp is real. I hope there’s a backstory, possibly something to do with how she and Saran’s father broke up. Or maybe she injured herself after giving up her baby, who knows~~

Yeah, now that it’s just the main kitchen staff without all the young gisaeng’s hanging around, it feels more kitchen-y.

Omg, he’s a real washed up singer? YES. That just makes it perfect. I hope he does a full-blown performance at some point. (I’m also secretly hoping he does get with the main gisaeng lady, the one with the crush on Rara’s adopted dad.)

          • 59.1.1.1.4 supah

Episode 8! OMGGGGG! *squeals of delight*

Backstory, backstory! I was thinking it would be too much to ask for to be transported back to the 70s, but OMG! And the young doctor was gorgeous! And they managed to find a young actress with a striking resemblance to the Head Cook (Kim Hye-sun). Awww… We need more flashbacks now, this time with the Head Gisaeng. Moar! Moar!
And I just loved the way they did it, the juxtapositioning with the Gisaeng dancing and Saran smiling at the bouquet Damo gave her.

Aww… Damo and Saran: making old-school romance cool again. <3

Not to mention Son-ja and Gong-joo at the sauna. *wibble*

Oh and Shin-goo's cameo. Awesome as always.

          • 59.1.1.1.5 Kender

*squeals with you* That’s it, I’m going to marry Damo. Now that they’re actually dating, he’s pretty amazing. And I like how they’re both automatically much more relaxed and laid-back now that they’ve established what their relationship is.

Okay, the backstory was AWESOME. I mean, obviously there’s a lot they’re leaving out, but what they do have is wonderful. I thought it’d be something silly and generic, but it’s actually very sweet. And he still has feelings for her, omg. *whimper*

Also, did you notice that she limped even in the flashback? My guess is it’s a club foot or something rather than any particular injury.

I’m dying to know how the head gisaeng got involved with the love triangle too. And then if you throw in his wife, it’s a love quadrangle! So much competition over one man, it’s nuts. But he was a cute doc, so I can understand it. ;D

Son-ja and Gong-joo at the sauna were so cute. And I love her hair all relaxed like that, she’s sooooo pretty~

(Who is Shin-goo? The old man? He looks familiar..)

Also, next week! People learn about Saran’s real parentage?? Ahhhhhhh what is this?? Can’t wait, so excited. :3

      • 59.1.2 supah

Eeep! Sorry, I think I repeated some of your words back to you there. :p

I’ve been a sageuk binge and Duo’s first episode opened up like Every. Other. Sageuk I’ve been watching lately. So far it’s not offering anything original other than it’s well made and promising. Sadly I’m not looking forward to the adult cast (as in who the child actors will become once they grow up), not seen too much of CJM so don’t know what to expect from him but the rest are so meh! I’m simply going to bank it for later.

        • 59.1.2.1 Kender

CJM’s a total charmer, a real cutie patootie in What’s Up Fox and Goodbye Solo (hence his nickname PIE, as in cutie pie), but those are the only things I’ve seen of his pre-MS work. He was wasted in CU, but so was everybody. ><

I'm just curious to see how he'll do in a sageuk, since he's never done one before. :x I have no interest in his leading lady, though.. She looks completely out of place in that cast.

I'm only watching one real sageuk at the moment, Geunchogo, but it's epic enough that I'm content to stick with just that one for now. Seen a few fusion sageuks though (Tamra, Conspiracy in the Court, etc), so I'm not a complete noob to the genre.

          • 59.1.2.1.1 supah

Yeah, Lee Sang-yoon and Han Ji-hye are just kinda… ehhh!
But the kid actors are doing great.
Yeah, like you I’m busy with a looong sageuk so I’ll get back to Duo at some point.

I’ve seen CJM in Fashion 70s where he played eye candy and gave us ample glimpses of his choco abs and then I watched him in CU where he played… eye candy.
Maybe Duo will be a nice little showcase of his talent as well as his prettiness and choco abs.
PIE suits him, that name’s so cute, it’s making me smile.

          • 59.1.2.1.2 Kender

Haha yeah, PIE is somehow perfect. I wasn’t around when it came about, but it feels weird to call him anything else now. Sometimes I forget his name, actually. XD

Maybe he’ll be a bit more intense in Duo, given the theme. I’m looking forward to that. :3 Y’know, when I get around to watching it.

Aigoo…now you tell me you’re on hiatus.I went looking for you on Channel -X.

And am stuck subbing it now thinking you’re editing there. Are you coming back or not?Otherwise I’m leaving.
    :-)

I’m a KD person NOT a TW fan.I’m also not a Zh subber my brain’s all mesed up learning Hangul and subbing in Mandarin when I’m a Malay subber.I don’t even like the drama and never got into the Joe Cheng is like the best kisser bandwagon.

  11. 61 supah

Jung Eun-byul! You can’t do this to me! Noooooo!!! :(
Honestly this actress is the most promising young actress I’ve come across of this, current generation, she debuted in 2010′s short drama First Marriage and was just… Phenomenal.
And now I’ve just discovered she’s been cast in Thorn Birds as some third-tier extra. Why is she not the lead? WHY??
I understand standing shoulder to shouler with actresses like Han Hye-jin and Kim Min-jung might be a compliment for a newbie but why do I feel it’s a crappy decision for her career? Because she won’t stand out? And will forever be consigned to playing small and insignificant roles?
Oh well, good luck to her.

Where is the recap of The Baker King?

    • 62.1 Lahlita

      Dramabeans didn’t recap Baker King.

    • 62.2 brookeeve

This is your recap of for part of Baker King:

Dude baked some bread. He had a kid with this chick who wasn’t his wife, but his wife had a kid with another guy. Everybody lied about who ‘da baby daddy was. Shenanigans ensue. More bread gets baked. Contrived plot devices happened (you can make up anything you want here, it probably got covered). More bread gets baked. There were tears. Happy Reunion Time! Yet more bread in the baking.

At this point, I stopped watching because it was either that or tear my hair out.

I found this great blog, namely Ma Hye Ri’s Diary.

Ma Hye Ri writes about her life after Prosecutor Princess. Let’s all support the writer! :) Thank you.

  14. 64 Janna

I’ve successfully avoided the first page of the OT due to my inability to weigh in on topics I find awkward to navigate around. . . I didn’t just type that. (silence) ANYWAYS

I don’t want to go to work tomorrow. Half of my co-workers (full-time employees) got sacked. I should worry that I’m next and in the red-zone. I do and then I don’t because I hold multiple jobs and these clowns are a bunch of jerks. I have no problem telling people what I think, I’m mostly reserved, quiet and hardworking. When someone in the company who never talks to anyone hides in their office floors away from our department decides on random firings it’s clearly a d-bag move. Apparently it was also calculated because they were already throwing around resumes and names and decided to bring someone new in tomorrow. He has a real unfortunate name to me at the moment. THAT NAME IS ANDRE.

Speaking of Gisaeng here’s what I think, and this is why I stay:
    Son-ja >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Damo

    • 64.1 Kender

I do love Son-ja, but Damo in dating mode is all kinds of wonderful. So far. His ass-ness may resurface later, I dunno. But right now I adore him.

I do, however, want Son-ja and Gong-joo to get married and make adorable little babies together. As soon as possible. I’d die of joy. ♥

      • 64.1.1 Janna

I can’t get over the way he is, it bothers me. I just think it’s like a kid being good to get a present. I even at times feel he seems more relaxed with his family.. and then with Saran he is talking at her…like his voice increases and suddenly sentences have no inflection.

I don’t feel Gong-joo should all be running off into the arms of Son-ja, but I guess I’m not in it for the pairings or what not. It just breaks my heart to see him so bummed out. Seems like a guy who really can’t find his place in the world, and now he’s even more isolated.

        • 64.1.1.1 Kender

Haha I didn’t get that vibe.. He’s still kinda (okay, very) full of himself, but I like that, and I imagine Saran will bring him down a few pegs in due course. I was a little o.O at the end of ep 8, but since they like to twist things for the sake of cliffhangers I’m willing to ignore it.

I love Son-ja and Gong-joo as a pair, since I haven’t gotten to know either of them well enough individually.

        • 64.1.1.2 supah

          Hahhh!
I kind of can’t call Damo ‘flat’, he does have potential as an evocative actor, but then his line delivery suuuuucks! I’m so with you there janna, he needs to work on that part. Otherwise, he’s ‘meant’ to awkward around her. It’s just sometimes he’s awkward cute, sometimes awkward sexy and that one time he took the hotel detour (for which he’s still paying the penance) he was awkward creepy. I’m enjoying their interactions and Saran going back to flirting to her heart’s content.
Sonja…. :*( That boy is crushing my heart. And Gong-joo, I would totally have cried into my rice in that scene with the fried fish.

          But….
          Doc >>>>>>>>>> Damo/Sonja!

          He’s so damn cuuuutttte! I <3 Doc!
See this? You see it? http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Gisaeng%20Tales/1.jpg

Now I totally get why he has three women still so deeply in love with him. I so want to continue to follow his love story with Seondeok, moar flashbacks, MOOOARR! Especially loved that scene when he's helping her off the ship.
Also, Shin Goo's cameo totally made me weepy, anyone mentioning anything end-of-an-era related and I want to weep. So sad. (Blame Giant and its Sandglass motif.)

Anyway, I'll bet Seondeok (head-cook-possible-saran-omma) was his first and genuine love (though I'm beginning to doubt he's Saran's father) and then he had an arranged, loveless marriage with horseface and anything with the head Gisaeng is just one-sided love from her side.

          • 64.1.1.2.1 Kender

Hahaha his delivery does kind of suck. He mumbles a lot, so half the time I have to back up to confirm that he really said what I thought he did. ><

Young Doc is super cute. I wonder who the actor is?

Rofl, horseface. She does look like a horse. One of the dressage horses they make up all fancy and ridiculous.

          • 64.1.1.2.2 Janna

Did you guys know Saran is in Paradise Ranch? Yep.

I still not to hot on Damo. Then again I’m not really into hot/cold relationships. If I was a pedestrian witnessing the car scene I’d be calling from across the street “You need to get a restraining order!”

I don’t think theirs is a traditional love so much in that Damo will do anything to win Saran over. Once that goal is met he could go back to being a jerk (but this is a K-drama and he won’t.. in real life? He’d go back to being a jerk)

I have food poisoning today, gonna go back to the bathroom and die. It’s all uhhh errrr.. Paradise Ranch’s fault. That show should be the last drama ever in that time slot (coughs)

          • 64.1.1.2.3 supah

OK, just did some research to find out about this younger version of Eo-san (Doc) but no such info, yet.
I think that the actor who’s due to come on playing the grandson of Grandpa (aka. Rara’s elusive cousin) is called Jeon Ji Hoo — and he must be a n00b too, as there’s no mention of that name anywhere else.

Also… Wahhh! You couldn’t recognise Shin Goo? Sacrilege! Haha! He’s a pretty kickass veteran actor and has played an endearing Grandpa in many a drama. But I’m not one to speak, I’ve only ever watched him in one drama, that being Thank You (in which he moved me to tears without even trying) — but there ya go.

I think her limp might be club foot or something too.
Awww…. *fist in mouth in excitement*
I’m so touched that he still has feelings for her.
This suddenly feels like like a drama adaptation of The Classic or something, except the Gisaeng version.
            Sweet!

And you guys… I’m kinda posting some discovery that’s kind of GENIUS in some places, but I’m not getting a response, so I’m beginning to feel the world lacks a sense of humour. And that makes me feel quite isolated and disillusioned … y’know… :p
Like… WTF, man? No one can see the humour in this? Reaaaally? Like… *scratches head* Reaaally? :(

OK, effit, maybe everyone secretly likes Athena.

          • 64.1.1.2.4 supah

Janna, yeah, I know she’s in PR, I saw her. Oh wait. You didn’t hear that! Yeah… the show that singlehandedly killed an SBS primetime slot. Hee!

Janna, I wouldn’t worry too much. From what I gather, this is a love story, a really intense love story *simmer*. And he’s not anywhere on the asshole-o-meter yet, so all is forgiven. I think there’s a nice power balance in their relationship, she’s definitely not a pushover. There will be ups and downs in their dynamic and if he ever was to go in to full-on-jerk mode, I know Saran will match him in jerkness, ‘cos she has a backbone like that and I kind of admire her level-headedness.
(But I do hope he never goes into full-perve mode as there’s just no redemption for perverts.)

And work? Tell me about it. I work for a local government dept that’s being wiped out by the new govt and I get to hear my fate this Weds. I’ve become desensitised to it all now.)
            Here’s my response to them!

This is a off the topic but impt to me…does anyone know @bad milk(yogurutu-the sweet person who translated the SKKS novel for us in her blogspot)? She hasn’t posted for a while(since early, mid Jan) & I just found out(today!..it was still there last nite)that her blog has been removed. I’m more concerned about the person than the site itself…hope she’s ok :(

    • 65.1 samgetang

Isn’t she a college student? Maybe her parents are weaning her away from her kdrama addiction? Doing all that rigorous SKKS translation and recap work on top of her demanding school workload must’ve taken a toll on her, if that’s the case. If her life would now be much better because of this, then I’m all for that. I just hope nothing bad happened to her…

Thanks, cingdoc, for sharing the news…

How befitting I find the Mr.Destiny movie while incapacitated (I clicked download, then passed out, then awoke with it on my desktop…yeaaaahh dedication right there.) and I’m now sort of functioning under a strict Lim Su-Jung diet (For those of you at home that’s a steady regiment of apple peels and probably some sort of flesh eating bacteria)

It’s a good movie, what really needs to be said. Just watch it.

Are you going to recap New Tales of Gisaeng?? I am watching it without subtitles, it looks interesting. Can’t commit to content as I currently only understand about half of the dialogue.

Thanks for the fun and informative recaps.
