This…is an interesting choice, if it comes to pass: Park Min-young, last seen cross-dressing in period costume for Sungkyunkwan Scandal, is being reported as a top contender for City Hunter, starring Lee Min-ho.
According to Park’s agency rep, she is in the final negotiation stages with the producers, as well as discussions of character development with recently added scriptwriter Hwang Eun-kyung. The rep stated that the producers are also looking favorably at Park’s casting, although this is from the mouths of her rep, so take that with a grain of salt.
Park is up for the Kaori role, who is Ryo’s partner at the PI office and eventual love interest, although Ryo starts out ogling every pretty woman who passes. He’s not exactly picky. I’m a bit surprised/nonplussed at this casting, because it just doesn’t seem to fit the original characters, although I suppose with Lee Min-ho in the lead, they’re probably tweaking the whole thing younger. (Lee’s probably a decade too young for a proper Ryo — by which I mean one faithful to the original character — which isn’t a criticism of him, but an observation of the discrepancy.)
I don’t doubt he’ll do a great job interpreting the character, but Park seems too…feminine for Kaori. I know that’s odd since she just played a girl who dresses as a dude, but if memory serves me correctly, I recall Kaori being tough, almost butch. (City Hunter fans, am I remembering correctly?) I’d have loved to see a Kim Sun-ah type in the role (though she’s probably too old for him), or a Shim Eun-kyung in about eight years.
If Park is cast, she’ll join the shoots when they begin in March. City Hunter will premiere in May.

plus if age is such a factor for some people she’s only about 3-4 years older than LMH which is less than the difference b/w him and Sohn Ye Jin

Kaori is not exactly tough. She’s just fearless when she needs to protect the ones she loves. She’d impulsive and often not that agile. Inside, she’s just a marshmallow. Kaori is like a thinner Bridget Jones with a bazooka.
Park Min Young may not fit the original Kaori that well but I think she can make a cute partner for LMH. I like little short girl with taller guy couple.
I just can’t see her in this role no matter how much I try to imagine it. I know suspension of disbelief and all but…yeah….someone else please

Come on, its not even finalized yet. Anyway I loved PMY in SKKS. The character was quite ‘feminine’ in d novel as well, so don’t get all the rant about the tomboy part. And Yoon Hee talked tough whenever she had to. But I hope with all the delay in ‘City Hunter’ coming through, it doesn’t prove to be a dud.
I think PMY has a rough edge to her, so would like her to do a mean act. She can definitely improve as an actress, but for me, she definitely held her own with male co-stars in SKKS. She had chemistry with all the three and that’s amazing. I see lots of promise in her. Anyway, let’s wait n watch.
The thing about Park Min Young is that she did okay in SKKS because she could almost pull off feminine boy, but I’m less sure that she can do masculine female. To fit the role of Kaori, I think she’d need a very short hair cut and a hell of a lot of eyeliner, lol. (and maybe a lil more acting finesse, particularly with the whole sounding gruff without sounding ridiculous thing. that may have just been an affectation for SKKS because the character was female, but I’m just hoping she can hit a lower, sexier register with her voice if she’s supposed to be legitimately tough rather than just feigning it)

this drama has a good cast, great director and scriptwriter. the production has too much pressure on its shoulder now because it is compared with fugitive. i hope they get a good actress who will fit kaori’s role. i don’t think they will get an actress much bigger than lee min ho (look what happened in PT). and they must have chemistry. park min young for me is too feminine for the role. that is my opinion. is there anything like ha ji won but younger version?

Noooooh! She’s too short and not too happy with her performance in SS. I think Park Shin Hye is a better partner for Lee Min Ho since their chemistry exudes so much compatibility as we all saw in their Etude House CF. I like her sweetness but I bet she can show fierceness if needed. Since she dances very well, doing martial arts will not be a problem.

Moon Geun Young acts well in her previous dramas (except for the romcom MSOAN) but I think she’s too short and frail to be paired with LMH. Lee Minho is such a beautiful guy that it’s difficult to find a nice partner for him…
