We’re used to seeing top actress Go Hyun-jung playing chic (Daemul) or relatable (What’s Up Fox?), but it’s not often we see her taking on that other K-dramaland staple, the femme fatale. The former beauty queen (Go was a Miss Korea runner-up) puts on the dramatic makeup and ruby-red lips for the April issue of Elle magazine, which was shot at a hotel in Dubai.
The supposed concept for the shoot with rookie model Park Jae-geun is apparently “Love Story,” which… eh, sure, why not? These weirdly elaborate fashion-mag shoot ideas rarely ever come through in the actual photos, do they?
Go recently wrapped her hit drama Daemul, in which she played Korea’s first woman president, and is planning to begin shooting her next project next month. It’s a crime-action comedy called Miss Conspirator, which sounds potentially great: While running an errand, an ordinary woman happens upon the once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in a crime, leading to action and hijinks. I can see it already.

GHJ is always in a drama about crime or politics. At least, it takes up most of her dramas, though I’d like to see her in more light films like WUF.
That photo is indeed glamorous. So much I did triple takes before I could take in that the woman there is really Go. I’m too used to her clean bare-faced makeup style.
I got stuck on the mention of the location of the shoot: a Dubai hotel.
Why? Why travel all the way to Dubai for a shoot that’s indoors, especially a nondescript part of a hotel. Presumably the hotel’s interior must be something to behold, yet these pictures don’t give any clues as to their singularity.
Or is she on vacation or doing work in Dubai that they shot it there? Is it the editorial team’s effort to do its part in digging the world out from a recession?
It would be interesting to know whether the remaining photos from this shoot make use of the hotel scenery.

Don’t love the look. The femme fatale-style makeup makes her forehead look extra wide, and the deep red and overbearing eye makeup recalls the pancake-y dreck of 80s Asia.
