Now it’s Jung Il-woo’s turn to sing for a drama OST: He’ll be showing off his singing skills (? — only ’cause I’m not sure yet whether he has any) for the first time with a track on the 49 Days soundtrack. The single is titled “허수아비,” meaning “Puppet“; it’s Reaper Boy’s theme song, and alludes to the sadness of blankly watching the one you love, unable to do anything. Seems like those sentiments could also be appropriate as Almost-Dead Girl’s theme song, but as many of us suspect there’s more to the exasperated Scheduler than we’ve been told so far, I’m betting it fits in nicely with future developments.
The tune is described as a “warm and dreamlike” modern-rock song, and will become available online on March 30 via various internet music portal sites. Jung Il-woo reportedly spent his free time with vocal training to prepare for his singing debut, which he recorded on weekends and breaks from drama shoots (which, as we know, can be quite grueling).
On top of that, we’ll get to see Mr. Scheduler playing the guitar in the drama’s Episode 6, which airs this Thursday. We’ve seen him with the guitar before — on rooftops and such, because, what?, you mean YOU don’t play in the night breeze on high-rise ledges? — but this’ll be the first time we get to see him playing it.

yeah. but this seems pretty stupid to ask but do they really have to shoot the scene at the edge of the roof? i know first hand it’s pretty scary to look down from the edge. i tried rappelling face down and it scared me to the bone. i was almost hysterical.
but if JIW really shot that scene there. my. my. he sure is brave. says a lot what actors/actresses have to put up with for our entertainment.

I also read some character chart that says he was punished to be a scheduler for 5 years because he commited suicide….
So… I’m sure Yi Kyung and him were a couple before.
People how can you not recognize his back and hair in that scene where they show her crying for his dead body?

When I saw the back of the head and the hair of the dead body on the ground, I had a good feeling it was the Reaper boy’s hair. lol And I’m pretty much sticking to my guess that it’s him bc k-dramas are quite predictable. And even in the first episode (or was it second?) where they showed a slow-mo shot of the reaper boy walking past Yi-kyung, I felt that there was some foreshadowing going on to show that they are connected in more ways than just Yi-kyung being Ji-hyun’s host body. Well, why else would Yi-kyung be taken as host? Because all the characters have got to be connected in at least five ways since it’s such a small world. That’s how k-dramas roll.
lol! especially funny when it takes place in such a large city like Seoul! And if you have some random character we’ve never seen before come in in episode 10 and announce him as the bf, people will be like “WTF, who is this random person? That doesn’t make sense!” when it’s more probably in real life that the bf is not the reaper. =D
Yeah I agree, maybe the scheduler himself doesn’t know, but even Him is connected in this situation, he said ”in my world things don’t happen without a reason.” There always have something in commom.”
I feel like this scheduler job is like some sort of punishment as well. Maybe when he was human, he wasn’t a nice guy. Maybe he never really loved Yi-kyung as much as she loved him, used her, and cheated on her. Only after he died, he realized he had wronged her or was really in love with her. (I’m putting a Skip Beat-esque spin on this…)
I think it can be like this too. But what a big twist would be if she is the one guilty for his death? I mean like because of her he commited suicide, and couldn’t go to hell or heaven before paying for his sins. It is said people who commit suicide have very hard punishment…

I’m totally a big supporter of the ex-bf of YiKyung theory but something in the last episode had me all … o.0 about the theroy.
One of scheduler’s lines: “Girls in this generation are so [fickle(?)]” (or something like that)
So that suggested to me that he’s lived for a few generations. It makes me think he’s a few hundrend years old.
But yes, I imagine he was human once and has loved.
The question that I want to know is … If scheduler/reaper-boy falls in love with Ji-Hyun then is he to become human once again? Or is she to become the same as him; a reaper? … Or are they tragically fated to be seperated by the human-reaper worlds?

I’m also someone who thinks Reaper boy was Yi kyung’s bf (or someone really close to her). Possibly so that he can complete his job/punishment as a reaper, his memories of his past life have been repressed, so he wouldn’t interfere with those he left behind (Yi kyung).
he didnt say “girls in this generation are so fickle”- which you probably got from the subtitles. If you arent korean, you shouldnt just take the subs for hard fact because honestly, they arent all that accurate. What he said was “Girls in this neighborhood are such badasses”- implying the difference between life on earth and life in heaven. The writers probably used the word neighborhood in replacement of heaven because they didnt want to offend any of the religious people watching the drama, or aethiests for that matter, because each person has different beliefs about what happens when one dies.
anyways, the point is, he probably isnt the 100 year old reaper that everyone is saying he is. like he said, hes been at the job for five years, and we all know, reapers dont lie

UH STUFF GETS CONFUSING…who’s who’s ex-bf now and what the eff about Jy Hyun then…? I mean, no matter how much I want it to happen, I think in the end Ji Hyun will end up with Kang, but still, Reaper Boy has to fall for her, I mean, there have been more than enough hints that he will. (I want it to happen becaaaause…well so far, we’ve seen practically nothing about Yi Kyung’s past and character, whilst we know pretty much about Ji Hyun…also, I am more into a love-story when I can follow it right from the start (and see how they fell in love with each other)…not somewhere in the middle. AND I WANNA BE INTO THE REAPER BOY LOVE STORY D:!)
So yeeeeah… seeing that stuff looks like reaper boy will fall for Ji Hyun, but that he also is the ex-bf of Yi Kyung, atm I have NO IDEA where this is going romance-wise. Which is both a good and a bad thing…good because that means the drama isn’t predictable, bad because I hate it when I can’t be sure about what happens next and fear that i’ll end up being disappointed. I was disappointed too just sounded like a guy singing karaoke. But then he never claimed to be an aspiring singer once upon a time and I don’t think he has attempted to sing for anything before. The song and singing will likely work better in the context of the drama.
Anyways, he doesn’t need to sing. He’s an awesome actor and hot as all hell…err..heaven?
I thought him on the rooftops and whatnot was a nod to Wings of Desire, which was about an angel who willfully clips his wings to be with a mortal woman. The film had gorgeous shots of angels perched on European architecture, overseeing humanity. It also had an awful Hollywood remake City of Angels.

Why do actors want to be singers as well and vice versa? He is not ready to release a single yet.If he chose a right song , he might get away with it, but not this one. Perhaps with more work and singing lessons, he will get better. On his role as the Scheduler, he is hitting the right notes! Love him at the moment.

This is released as a single on the 49 Days soundtrack. Therefore you are expecting the public to buy and listen to it. A lot of times that’s how it starts. If there is good response , they do more .
I think he could shine with different production values as well. Its a very rock-pop/ ballad piece. I think his character, and his voice lend themselves to something more acoustic indie and expressionistic. [I also predict relatively high sales, it becomes familiar quickly].

KHJ is a singer first, in fact a member of boy band SS501, before he got into acting. So he’s not really an actor-singing-on-his-drama’s-OST. Even though I’m one of the few who liked him in PK (and kept defending Jung So-min against KHJ die-hard fans), I think he should stick to being an idol. =)
