Kim So-yeon to take on Coffee?

Will Kim So-yeon be filling the spot vacated by Lee Da-hae? It looks like the big-budget spy melodrama Coffee is finally getting back on its feet after some huge production delays. And uh…not to lead the parade or anything, but if I were casting a spytastic movie, historical or not, I’d have started by knocking on Kim So-yeon’s door. Did you SEE her one-episode stint on IRIS-spinoff Athena? Rest my case.

She’s still considering the project so it’s not a done deal, but now that her name’s being bandied about, I’m suddenly curious to know if it’s going to be more action-centric than I had previously assumed. Coffee takes place in Emperor Gojong’s reign in the late Joseon era, and the lead role is the emperor’s barista, who is also a key player in his assassination attempt.

Does she get turned by a Russian spy? Is she a Russian spy? What mystery surrounds the woman who makes the emperor’s coffee?

Currently signed on to star is Joo Jin-mo (Invincible, above), who I hope is sticking with the project now that it’s back in motion. Also attached are Park Hee-soon (A Barefoot Dream) and Yoo Sun (Sons of Sol Pharmacy).

If Kim does join the cast, it’ll be her first film in six years, since 2005’s Seven Swords. Coffee is described as a historical spy mystery, and is based on the novel Russian Coffee by Kim Tak-hwan. Directing is Jang Yoon-hyun (Tell Me Something, Hwang Jini).

Coffee was supposed to start filming at the beginning of the year; hopefully this casting news means it’ll soon enter principal photography for a release sometime this year, as planned.

Yes please! I'd rather see Kim So Yeon's face than Lee Da Hae's face anyday. She has a certain charm and hotness (IRIS) and seeing her onscreen is so fun!

acted as 'extraordinary' prosecutor, Ma Hye-ri in Prosecutor Princess.
She's the famous badass Kim Seon-hwa from IRIS.
evil-est 2nd lead ever from All About Eve.

Won Bin I can forgive, since he's been out of drama for a while but Kim So Yeon?

Are you sure you've been active for the past two years? Because she was hot in IRIS and she had a great (albeit relatively unknown) drama last year: Prosecutor Princess which anyone should've watched because it had Park Shi Hoo. (Oh, we're talking about Kim So Yeon? Sorry)

We're all newbies at one point and discover actors in our own time...I'm sure there are a lot of great Japanese actors I don't know of...i don't think it's good to put down someone for not knowing who someone is... I only know of Kim So-yeon b/c this girl rocks the red carpet and I only saw bits of IRIS.

i guess she was most memorable in Iris and Prosecutor Princess though.

She was really great in All About Eve as well, why she didn't shoot to fame at that time is beyond me, maybe people really hated her (due to her character?) but she held such a performance imo. I never hated any 2nd lead character as much as I hated her character.

I couldn't finish watching All About Eve (as in past episode 2 or 3) because I could tell Kim So Yeon's character would be evil incarnate. And I'd already fallen in love with her Sun-Ah in Iris.

I don't usually go ga ga about stars but I'd gladly be Kim So Yeon's head priestess any day. She is so awesome.

They are both solid actors - this, if it happens, could be hugely entertaining.

Kim So-yeon is just awesomeness-personified and Joo Jin-mo just blew my mind in A Frozen Flower.

I love her! She completely stole the show in ATHENA, even though she only appeared in a few scenes. She really kicks butt, and can play softer characters as well. The complete package.

That would be great if Kim So-yeon took this! She was totally awesome in the few minutes of Athena, and I recently found her really charming and charismatic. Kim So-yeon, Joo Jin-mo, Yoo Sun, and Park Hee-soon gracing the same screen = EPIC.

if i were her, i would not take this role because there are too many problems with this movie Coffee. It has
production problems such as long delays and not enough funding. I do not blame Lee Da Hae for rejecting
the role because it was a smart decision. One cannot feed it self by constant delays.

Wow. I clicked on this article's link, got the page, and then must've stared(slightly slack-jawed) at Kim So-yeon's gorgeous pic for like 20 seconds...at least...anyways....

Kim So-yeon is such a beautiful and talented actress, that I would definitely check out any drama or movie that she'd be in, whether I had any interest in that show's premise or not. She's not just easy(real easy) on the eyes; she's also a joy to watch in whatever type of role she's portraying. In her brief cameo scenes in Athena she delivered the best acting and action moments of the show's entire run.

Coffee? Count me in. ;)

Kim So-yeon's drama "2002 (Sunshine)" with Chinese subs, unfortunately, I do not speak Chinese so for the ones who do enjoy, she still as "Beautiful" as when she did this drama back in the day!!!!!
