Official posters for 49 Days

With only one more day before 49 Days premieres, here are the official posters for the fantasy drama, which is pretty enough, despite making it look like our boys are sprouting from the ladies’ heads, Athena-style.

I do like the water motif, which alludes to the drama’s premise wherein Nam Gyuri must “earn the tears” of three people in order to return to the land of the living, as stated by her hottie reaper boy, Jung Il-woo. The second poster, which features Lee Yo-won (the body that the main character inhabits as she tries to earn her way back), employs more overt teardrop imagery. Both posters feature the tagline, “Do you have three people who truly love you?”

That’s pretty sad, actually, to realize that it’ll be a daunting task to find three people who love you. At least, daunting enough to carry 16 episodes of will-she-or-won’t-she suspense. And if she doesn’t find those three people, will she get eternity with Jung Il-woo instead? I’m sure living would be preferable, but as far as consolation prizes go, it could be worse…

I’m really hoping 49 Days sparks my interest, if only because I’m in something of a drama dry spell at the moment. There are a bunch of new series available for watching (Midas, Royal Family, Thorn Birds, Crime Squad, The Duo…), but none have held my attention for longer than an episode. I’ve tried, but nothing’s sticking. And while I’ve long ago learned not to pin hopes based on cast, this one’s hitting the right buttons for me, with Seo Ji-hye, Jo Hyun-jae, and Bae Soo-bin joining the above-named leads.

Well, if it doesn’t work out, maybe it’s a hint to turn my attention to something older that I’ve been meaning to catch up on…

49 Days premieres tomorrow, March 16, on SBS in the post-Sign timeslot.

I think that it's not an instance of bad photoshopping as much as an intentionally less slick look. See above comment 1.1 re: a harkening back to 1970s romance cover.

I actually think it's quite a lovely and appropriately moody, even forlorn, poster.

I especially like the top poster. Lee Yo-won is so pretty. I am a little vague on what direction they will take this. Will it be all about Nam Gyuri's character and her journey or will they also include Lee Yo-won's Journey? I can't wait to watch. and it's not just for Jong Il woo... What? It's not!

It looks really really good but I just hope it'll live up to the hype.

I'm scared of bringing my hopes up or setting my hopes on any drama these days;

The crush and burn of "What's Up" still weighs on my mind :P

And yes, I'm currently down with nothing to watch.
So I'm gonna wing it and watch an older drama.
I've actually heard of Story of a Man somewhere previously on this sight. I forgot where...
It's gathered pretty much good reviews from people, so I started to watch up to episode 4 and read the recaps.
I really love it.
I want someone to make another drama with insanely interesting characters. Evil and psychotic 2nd lead? Genius.
Dowoo has a sexy head tilt.

As for 49 Days, it hasn't really caught my interest. None of the currently airing dramas have. But there's always one that surprises you. At least I hope this time.
Probably gonna watch it for lee yo won. (since I loved her in QSD.)

Story of a man was all sorts of flawless IMO.
Kdrama's need to take more of an original plot line like SOAM, get away from all the teen-angsty-doesheloveme?-doIlovehim?-whyismylifesotragic,yetimsopretty-cry-cry-sob-sob-happyending story line.

DITTO.
Story of A Man definitely is one of the best kdrama of all time, IMO.

so that's why I kind of feeling butthurt with the no airtime for What's Up as the writer is THE Song Jin-ah. *sigh*

(we're going back a few years here, aren't we?) Lucifer?? .... Oh God, It wasn't the most loved drama on the whole, but I personally really liked it.

Joo JiHoon + shin MinAh + Uhm TaeWoong

The story line too was unlike most things at that time. I think that was one of the reasons that got me hooked in the first place.
I especially likes TaeWoong's character it seemed very multi-layered and intricate.
plus at the time it was nice to have JiHoon back in a drama after Goong.

... I have this on DVD somewhere I think I might get it out and watch it again now that you've mentioned it.

^^

Love 'The Devil/Lucifer'... one of my favorite... the acting is great especially from both male lead.. Joo Ji Hoon surpises me a great deal.. although I like him but his acting in Goong is rather flat... it's good to see JJH and SMA in this.. I saw them in the Naked Kitchen first before I saw the Devil.. thought they have great chemistry... i am kinda backward i know..

The devil is one underrated drama and for anyone loves some exciting/misery/suspect drama.. this is a must watch..
I also own the dvd and have to watch it again soon so that I can really catch all the minor detail that I might have missed when i first watch it...

I'm praying to the drama Gods that this will hit all the right buttons for me if.
if not I guess I'll have to wait it out until the new Hong sisters drama.

poster: Bleh. but kind of beautiful.
I want that neclace, I don't know the significence of it yet, but I'm sure it'll be important.

p.s. Yo Won ... so pretty.

Is JB or GF going to be re-capping this? I hope soemone does. If it piques your drama interests.

I'm with javabeans and her dry kdrama spell. I've watched none of the new dramas which are airing/justed aired. None of the plot lines got my attention. But 49 days sure did with their 'find 3 people who are willing to cry for you out of love and you get to live'
Javabean poses an interesting question-if ones does not get the 3 tears in times does that mean one is stuck with cute reaper boy forever!!!!

It wouldn't be much of a punishment to have pretty boy reaper as a constant companion (unless he's ridiculously flawed personality-wise, haha!). So, I'm thinking that upon failure something beyond horrible happens because the time limit alone wouldn't pack enough of a dramatic punch.

To fill my dry spell, I'm watching 9 End 2 Outs, per Girl Friday's rec (watched through 6 eps, my feelings are mixed :x), and finally, The Return of Iljimae - rated 10 / 10 by both DB & GF! I enjoyed 10 eps over the weekend while my husband was out of town.. ^^ and greatly enjoyed reading DB's old recaps of it.

I may have to check out this 49 Days if only because Iljimae is in it.. hahaha

I'm not on any Kdrama too, nothing caught my attention. The premise of this one is not me and more tears? Will follow yours and see. Waiting for 'Festival' and 'the City Hunter' and maybe the Jang Nara's drama.

In the mean time, just finished the US 'Due Date', man what a weird characters caught up together, at the end I got use to them and fell in love with all of them,LOL. Dark freaking hilarious comedy ever!

I'm hOping this is good also because I also have ran out of good dramas to watch. None of the shows airing are interesting. I watched 9 end 2 outs already after GFs recap and it was so so cute. Totally the kind of story I like. I like these...stoies with deep meanings that always have unexpected turns and are real tear-jerkers at the end cause you are so...absorbed by them. Seriously, I DO cry at films often, but only if the story absorbs me, and that happes with less and less dramas for me recently. (Sadly.)
But when I'm absorbed, I cry at every little tear any of the good characters sheds...really. I. BALL.
And this one is giving me high hopes of being such a drama. Since I think it IS going to be one where you can't foresee the turns...cause actually, once I see something coming, I start imagining it in the most awesome way it could ever happen ( iny my eyes) and then they do it differently and i'm disappointed....and that keeps me from being absorbed in a story that is foreseeable.
Which this one won't be. Hopefully.
P.S.: WYH CAN'T I COME UP WITH SUCH GREAT STORIES, EVER? DDD:

Is it just me but I think Midas is one of the most watchable dramas in a long while (except for maybe Dream High). It's pretty exciting and it has me panting for the next time episode - something that hasn't happened since SKK Scandal.

IMO Midas is pretty much the drama that has re-ignited my love for the newer kdramas [this year]. (I'm too stuck in the late 90's early 2000's drama period... ;___;)

It's nice to see some genuine 'genius' roles.
Plus I've always liked Jang Hyuk, most things that he's attatched to are watchable, without me wanting to claw my dead brain cells out.

//never watched Dream High - purely because I tend not to like 'Idol Drama's' [YAB being the exception] ... but I seriosuly waver about not watching it when I hear good things about Kim SooHyun. '_'

Can someone please fill me in on how it's possible for Nam Gyu Ri's spirit to possess/inhabit the body of Lee Yo Won? In "Who Are You" Goh Ara's Dad was literally dead whereas Yoon Kye Sang was in a deep coma.

Tears of 3 loved ones - well, will mine count? I reckon I'm going to shed buckets of tears for this drama. Plus, she's so cute. Love her feisty bits in "Life is Beautiful". What's there not to love about her?

I'm hoping the identity crisis between the female leads will provide some comic relief - I don't think my tear ducts can cope with 16 episodes of forlorn crying!

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I would assume it's very similar, otherwise Gyu Ri will have little screen time (the actress, not the character).

It seems like Lee Yo Wons character is pretty miserable and quiet, and the Gyu Ri-character is easily excitable and princess like, so I expect her to do crazy stuff while in the wrong body.

I watched the 10 minute preview and it seemed alright. Some scenes were weird but I think it's because they were shortened, I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

If the reaper is the last to cry does it count? This show is kind of easy to read already so I hope it throws some curve balls.

I really like the concept for the posters but the execution seems a bit amateurish. I wonder what will happen to Lee Yo Won once Nam Gyu-Ri returns to her own body. And past the initial episode or two - i wonder if we will ever get to see Lee Yo Won's character as herself??

love the colours and softness of the poster. however, perhaps the execution is so amateurish, like fanart, it makes me scrutinise it further and notice the poor blending and choice of pictures - couldn't they just use the official photos? i can see the bg of a wooden panel in the picture of the guy below Jung Il-woo. it's nonetheless a rather enjoyable process of studying the effects used since other kdrama posters have usually been a slipshod job of putting the drama logo/name on a photo of the cast with little artistic input. so kudos for the effort here! heh.
