Jung Kyeo-woon gets fat (suited), Romance Town teaser

Wow, talk about image transformation: Jung Kyeo-woon, the ripped and toned elite judo athlete from Dr. Champ, packs on the pounds (well, the fat suit) for scenes in the upcoming romantic comedy Romance Town, which has also released its preview video (watch below).

Jung Kyeo-woon plays the romantic lead in the drama formerly known as Maids which stars Sung Yuri as his love interest. He’s the sharp, handsome rich chaebol, while she’s the cheerful everywoman who cleans his house. But he only gets that way after a drastic image shift, which explains why his character had been previously described as “originally very nice, but he comes back from New York very macho and masculine. He’s rude to women, and is a cold, hard-to-please type.”

And then he comes back home and looks like this:

In the stills below, though, his Gun-woo character weighs 150 kg (330 pounds) and is still in his timid, bumbling phase. Jung has drawn some comparisons to IU for her fat-suited transformation in Dream High, but I think his makeup and padding looks much better than Pil-sook’s, which always looked pretty fake. It reportedly took five hours of makeup work to complete Gun-woo’s look, and Jung could hardly move in it.

It’s also amazing how the faux fat adds about twenty years to his age; he’s 29 but looks nigh middle-aged. And, well, there’s also that hair. Wow, is all I can say about that. Just, wow.

Since being cast, Jung has been working on his speech and carriage to convey his character’s early shyness. He said, “In my school days I was actually too skinny. I’ve never lived this before and it isn’t a transformation that I’d be able to do easily in the future, so I couldn’t let the chance to play Gun-woo pass me by. It’s a role that would stir ambition in any actor. I hope you’ll watch affectionately.”

Here’s the trailer for Romance Town, wherein Sung Yuri muses about how when she was a child, she thought of how grand life would be, only to grow up and realize that it’s a lot harder than it looks. She’d dreamt of white knights riding to the rescue, instant life reversals, Cinderella scenarios.

As we know, fate’s chosen to make her a maid to the rich instead (alongside fellow maid Min Hyo-rin), where she’ll run into two potential white knights: Jung Kyeo-woon and his friendly hyung Kim Min-joon. (Hey, her Cinderella jackpot didn’t come right away, but at least she got to double down.)

Gun-woo’s “before” look will be in the first two episodes; the drama follows Thorn Birds and premieres on Wednesday, May 11.

But really, what I love about this post is that it gives me a chance to do this: Remember this guy?

Forget about the fat suit...look at the mop head and JB trying to convince herself that more abs are needed to counteract the hair and suit....LOL.
I've never seen so many choco abs photos in a row here before :-)

Trailer is kind of different. I wonder if this drama will have a more low-key, realistic vibe than the usual Cinderella stories (a la BOF).

Thanks, I needed the ab therapy after all those distressing fat-suit ajusshi photos. :)

LOL! JKW did what KSY did for Prosecutor Princess.. both donning the challenging fat-body-suit. Good for the actor, he's been busy acting since Dr. Champ and taking the initiative as an upcoming lead actor indeed. ^^ Thanks for the post, JB!

I am not Korean either, but the best way to make sure your offsprings look Korean is probably to have a Korean significant other. That way at least they will be 1/2 Korean, and they also have the insider's info in terms of food. One stone, two birds!

another addition to darken my circles but i'm not complaining, it's my therapy from a hard days' work! my day or days won't be complete without kdramas! i can't explain or describe it into words! i even went to Korea to see the place & plan to go back soon! :)

He was utterly adorable in Dr. Champ.

Rather than IU, this makes me think of "Hello, My Sweetheart" (T-drama). I think the character there went through a similar transformation, though, for different reasons :D

I'll watch the first episode just for him haha.

Thank you for the ab therapy <3

now, onto the important stuff: Jung Kyeo-woon! *SWOON*

interested to see how he does his fat character. but sadly, i have no time to watch all these trendies. i will simply download them ALL and watch them when I go back to Nigeria and the internet is too slow to stream dramas.

I actually think it would be more interesting if Min Hyorin was wealthy and Sung Yuri's rival for Jung Kyeo Woon's affections. I'm curious as to how Min Hyorin would fare as a villainess since she's only played pure, innocent roles thus far. Coincidentally, who plays Sung Yuri's rival, because I'm willing to bet my right arm that there will be one. I really hope that Min Hyorin isn't Sung Yuri's rival in love because somehow, it seems more despicable if Min Hyorin were to play a fake, two-faced, scheming gold digger pretending to be poor and helpless. It just reminds me too much of Get Karl! That girl was the most annoying fictional character I've ever come across. Right now I'm LOVING Kim Min Jung's evil character on Thorn Birds. You know, those female antagonists you love to hate? It's just so satisfying when they meet their just desserts in the end. Though hate female antagonists during the duration of the drama, once the drama ends, my reasonable side returns, and I admire and respect the sheer quality of their acting. I think evil characters are often better actors than the ones that play the good characters~~~

1. I never laugh at fat people, even when I was young and skinny. Now I'm fatter and fatter, so I know it's no laughing matter.

2. Thank goodness for V shape!

3. Yeah, I've always wonder why there are so many V tall guys in Korea. What do their mothers' feed them? Why are they cooking better than me? Have to thank them cuz I'm loving all the K-dramas.

That's probably just a skewed perception because it's television. There's just as many tall, young, V-shaped men that flood Hollywood, but they don't exactly represent the general population.

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, of course in Hollywood, and of course more so in US where there are just tons of Vs, they already naturally have deep large eyes, tall nose, height, sportive & work out. Somehow at the moment, I just forgot to think/include them because like you said, I was just thinking about my Dramaworld. :)

But to be frank, there's just not as much Vs from Mainland/Hong Kong/Taiwan; whose dramas I've watched. I feel sad about that since I am Chinese. I wish my own people's dramas were more romantic, filled w/ eye candies, but the picking is scares. O well.

Hmm, to be honest with you I haven't seen Taiwanese/Chinese/Hong Kong dramas yet. I'm pretty new to drama and Korean is the only kind I've watched so far. I'll have to take your word for it!

Though in my opinion, too much V's gets tiring-- if everyone is V shaped and tall it's boring! I'd like to see some different body shapes who are attractive too :-) I also like broad chested and short.
