Midas gets a 1-episode extension

Not that we’re surprised (are we?), but SBS’s Midas is getting one extra episode and will now end with episode 21 rather than the initially announced 20.

I say it’s no surprise because the drama’s been “off-schedule” since practically the beginning, meaning that its last episode would have come on a Monday instead of a Tuesday. In 99% of cases (I counted, sure why not), that means the drama either adds an episode, or plans a “special” so that the following drama gets to air on a Monday.

In Midas’ case, I think the bigger question is why it took so long for the official announcement to come, when it’s been so clear all along that they’d need to do something to work around the finale date. Perhaps they were waiting to see whether it’d be worth the gamble to extend it even further, given the drama’s recent rise in ratings.

For instance: The Duo had established its lead and held it for over a month, but has been losing ground in recent weeks. Recently, Midas overtook The Duo to claim the top spot in the Monday-Tuesday timeslot; its latest episode on April 26 drew a 16.4%, against The Duo’s 15.7%. (The third drama, KBS’s Crime Squad, has been firmly in third place for its single-digit run, and wrapped up this week with a 7.6%.)

With this batch of dramas coming to a close, the new crop is gearing up to take over. Crime Squad will be followed next week by Jang Nara’s workplace rom-com Baby-Faced Beauty, while Yoon Eun-hye’s trendy romance Lie To Me joins it on the air a week later, replacing Midas. The Duo, being scheduled for 32 episodes, will be on the air another month, to be replaced by Ripley in late May.

I actually enjoy Midas quite a bit so I am happy for the extension because there's so much plot going on and I would like it to stretch a little.. I am a little disappointed about No Ming Woo character... I think he needs more screen time... and more development...

Yeah, I thought the story was going to go a certain way and Noh Minwoo would play a bigger part, but instead we have a classic underdog fighting the big dog story in the later half. Which I actually quite enjoy.

Yeah, stopped watching for any romantic flavorings at all (which this drama really lacks), except to watch the woman topple from her high chair and pay with karma with what she has done..

I stopped watching Midas after the second episode, intending to continue at a later date, but now I don't know...that extra episode just makes it long enough for me to never go back. I really suck at watching longer dramas. Guess this'll be another Flames of Desire for me.

I am not sure how this happen, but the 3 stations need to synchronise their drama offerings.

Crime squad, duo and midas are all more male skewed. Action and crime themes.

then the batch of may dramas taking over are all romance and female lead! They should synchronise to offer different dramas so that viewers dun have a headache of what to watch. In this way they have a better chance at the ratings too.

I know! I would probably be interested in each of the May dramas individually, but since they all air together I know I'll get oversaturated with fluff. The networks really should take care to balance out their offerings.

This drama is so boring. What is it about anyways? I watched ep 1 and it bored me to death! Who is the main character? Jung or that woman with the short hair?

How can you tell the drama is boring only after one episode? The word boring isn't the word you should use. The word should be is not to your liking - or something like this...

Midas is not for young people or for people who loves romance. It a bussiness drama so many can't like it...

I'm liking it so much! So exciting and I like the actors, doing a good job. (and I'm not old btw....)

Exactly..it has it's flaws like every damn drama out there but it's interesting and entertaining. I love the business aspect of it (money and greed) backstabing ,betrayal even murder.

If you watched the movie "The Firm" and like it, you'll like Midas.

Midas is not for everyone, especially not girls, because it's set in the business world. But I'm watching it (even though i AM a girl) because I can learn a lot of things from it, especially the stock market and finance (which i'm very interested in). also, it shows the darker side of people. similar to the Japanese manga-based drama Liar Game.

Oh btw what I meant when I wrote "...especially not for girls because it's set in the business world" was that the story wouldn't be interesting to most girls because it's more mature and realistic (and I know dramas like Secret Garden and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho are more appealing to the female population).

I so agree with Julie though I lOOOve romance but this is a very good drama very well written and well acted you feel involved and part of it but I think one needs to be able to know how stock world really works to enjoy the full potential of this drama.
The greed or love of money is good its what makes the world going and I didnt find anyone greedy in this drama ....well according to my defination .
Its a very very good drama and should be watched I m happy with the extension as there is much going on and lot I was wondering how will they wrap it up as there is no end to the circle of money .....

Midas got way better after JH got out of jail. Thank goodness they're getting an extension. I was confused as to how they were going to wrap everything up. I hope they do a good job of doing it. I hope that they'll at least let In Hye speak louder towards the end.

I only chose to watch scenes when Lee min jeon and Noh Min Woo are together. Why was Min Woo at the recent conference but he had so little screen time.

Yeah I've been watching midas for no min woo. I like all of his scenes and lee minjung&jang hyuk scenes. As for the rest of the show, I just skim because I just don't get all the business jargon and whaty's going on and blahblah..eh.

I personally think this drama is really entertaining - the business aspect of it is different & it actually contributes quite a bit of fun to the plot. The twists also just keep on coming, especially in the second half. There have been times where I would catch myself saying out loud "this writer is brilliant" because things would happen when I least expected it. I'm glad its ratings have been rising because there are too many people not giving the full drama a chance. NMW really is so handsome to look at, but comeeeee on, the other actors (for the most part) are doing well in their characters too.

There is however, something that I don't like about the way Jang Hyuk talks. Maybe its the way he holds his mouth?

I thought I was the only one that noticed that...it like he doesn't open his mouth then he talks..his lips are so tense!

I figured that an extra ep would happen. THe drama might not be off the charts spectacular but I'm really enjoying it. I enjoy The Duo much more though so I'm not sure how Midas could've passed it. -_-'

I find Midas very interesting, and I am enjoying it very much. I understand it's not everybody's cup of tea because this a more mature drama that makes you think. What means, no moronic heroine being used as a door mat by everyone. They're fun and all, but sometimes I need some substance :)

There! I not only watch dramas because of the eye candy. Who would've thought!!!????

Oh who am I kidding??? Oppa saranghe!!!!!!!!
