Hello Everyone!!! Happy Friday welcome to OT. I need your help. Last night I was watching the end of Yu Hui Yeol’s sketch book it’s the episode with Mate’s farewell performance before the army service of one of their members. It is also the episode with one of the singers with bright orange hair. They called him by a nickname that as the name for Jeju do oranges.
Before Mate performed there was an artist I think his name is RA DIO or something like that he performed with his wife Kelly ( she’s not a professional singer and I don’t think she sings on the released version of the song) a song called Couple Song that goes Pretty from the side, pretty from the back, pretty from the front . . . I love you, I love you, I love you too . . . It’s really sickeningly sweet but they were both so charming I want to find this artist and this song help!!!!

I don’t get it either. I’m not British, so care as much about the Royal Family as I do the King of Jordan or the Japanese Imperial family, which is to say: not at all.
It’s sort of like Harry Potter for me: interesting by themselves but all the constant hype (and merchandise) about them starts pushing into the irritating territory. They’re very good books and I like them with or without the hype, but honestly I can’t wait until after the last movie comes out so we can all just move on with our lives. Same thing here.
I also take issue with the over-romanticization of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s relationship. E.g. how it’s a “real life fairy tale” and “oh how lucky.” Lucky? I say she must really love him to marry into a life of scrutiny and service to the British subjects forever. Neither of their lives or their relationship together will be truly their own. I don’t envy her at all.
You’re right about it being a difficult life for the new princess with all the attention to their private lives. Not only that, I was reading an article about how William is in the Air Force flying a rescue helicopter and is often in danger, and how the wives are often left in the dark, waiting to hear if their husbands are ok… apparently they live in some remote area. It’s not exactly a fairy tale life in the palace.
But on the other hand, if they really love each other that much, they ARE lucky. Because it’s not so easy to find.
I didn’t watch the wedding, because it aired at 4am here, but congrats to the royal couple!

i completely agree. for the rest of her life, she is going to be scrutinized through a microscope. every move she makes will be commented on, every dress she wears will be judged. i wish her the best of luck, and i can understand why people think its a ‘fairytale’, but honestly if you read about the way they met, thousands of people have exactly the same story and go through the same things every year. its not that special. and honestly, the elaborate ceremony is nice and everything, but people are forgetting that they’re using the tax payers money, and the UK has only just started recovering from ‘the worst recession in history’. also, i don’t understand how two people getting married is an issue of national pride.
Doubly so because she’s also a ‘commoner.’ It’s not the first time a commoner has married a (future) King, but it’s the first time in a long time, and people perceive it to be the first really open Royal-Commoner union.
Actually, I hear the Royal family paid for the wedding with their own money. So the taxpayers have nothing to worry about.
What annoys me is people dubbing the marriage as a rags-to-riches story while Kate Middleton’s family isn’t poor at all.
Oh and when they broadcast the wedding on the channel I was watching, the commentators where all “they’re perfect”, “Kate is extraordinary” but they weren’t doing anything, just sitting and smiling… Some people are just overexcited about this.
People, you are missing the point of the Royal Wedding.
As someone who is British let me tell you the point is that the kitsch is excellent presents for American Friends and Family.
Heck, we’ve even had requests for stuff.
But really should not be on here. I need to un-addict myself from Korean Dramas or I am going to fail my exams and not go to Uni.

Where I am in the States, there are complaints about how the “damn news stations” care more about this wedding than they do about the 300+ who died in the tornado. But who cares about destroyed lives when we have Will and Kate? Oh em gee. Pft. I never cared much for the hype, but thank goodness it’s finally going to be over with. I think the hype will die down after their first kid…. I hope sooner. XP

The atmosphere there was amazing. Cinderella story come true! So exciting and great for the British economy what with the increase in tourism and all the sales of memorabilia. Kate’s dress was beautiful….*sigh*

I live in the UK, but Im not British, and I swear I don’t get what the hype is about!! The wedding came on tv today and I didn’t watch it (cos I was asleep) but still!! The prince is not that great looking and I think Kate is average looking!! The only thing I am grateful for is the day off!!

. this must be the first time during exam season where there are more seats empty than full!
went to hyde park to watch it on the big screen! there was so many people there that the crowd behind us stretched like a sea, you couldn’t see the end. had to get up so early to get a good spot. i mostly went for the atmosphere, and it was a really good experience and saw them at buckingham palace afterwards.

Kang aaahhh!! Hey isn’t 49 days excellent. It totally lifted my spirits and gave me hope about the rest of the year’s dramas.
49 days is just getting better and better – and in fact it didn’t start off badly, just that the 1st episode with 70% NGR is a bit…testing on the audience’s patience i would say =P as the story develops the current NGR share of the show time is just perfect.
Am glad that 49 days brought me to know LYW. I think I’ll start Queen Seon Deok after all the May dramas… I used to think Scheduler is the gem of the show; he still is good but LYW has really done a pretty amazing job here.
Definitely it’s lee yo won’s show. We don’t even think twice that it’s not nam gyuri playing ji hyun. In fact sometimes I think Nam gyuri isn’t doing a good job of being ji hyun. I just read the end of hong gil dong ( I’m watching the show but there aren’t reliable sources) and I’m upset with the ending and I’m also watching another sageuk that may end with the lead character dying so I’m wondering if that’s a sageuk trend.
It’s also that LYW is clearly a versatile actress and the script is allowing her to pursue two/three different personalities, which is pretty incredible. When I see Ji Hyun’s spirit take over and leave, there’s a noticeable change in LYW. I’m looking forward to how the two, spirit and host, start having their personalities intermingle based on the last recap of the show. I really want to see LYW pull that off, while managing to keep the personalities unique.
I think I have a slightly different perspective as to who owns the show. I think ownership is spread out pretty evenly, each memeber doing his/her part.
But the most people tend to talk about is Jo Hyun Jae and Jung Il Woo as Han Kang and Scheduler.
It’s nice to see the actresses talked about, but the men have clearly stolen the show and have some serious abilities in acting and singing!!!
Honestly, who are YOU going to remember at the end of the series? Whose glorious singing voices will resonate in your ear?

Okay I take it back about the creepy look. It turns out that was just a mark my cat left from licking the screen that made his eyes look creepy. That means I hadn’t dusted the tv in 3 weeks at least. He is absolutely adorable but Kang ahh will be in my heart forever. I can’t think of another love interest I like better he has everything.
It’s not that Nam Gyu Ri is necessarily a bad actress, it’s just Lee Yo Won is totally OWNING in this drama.
I’m super thankful that Lee Yo Won finally gets to show her versatility as an actress (playing three characters in the same show) because even though she played the titular character throughout most of the 62 episodes of QSD, her face barely registered in my mind at the start of 49 days.
To be fair, Go Hyun Jung totally stole the show in QSD and even the men Kim Nam Gil and Lee Seung Hyo outshined Lee Yo Won’s performance. >,<
I guess it happens to all actors and actresses every once in a while….^^

Just watched a 9-minute trailer of Best Love and despite not knowing a single word from Korean I more or less understood.
Interestingly part of the trailer reminds me of Stephen Chow the Hong Kong comedian / director / actor… I guess it means that Best Love should be really successful in making us LOL!
And need I say that CSW is simply stunning and shining from the trailer!! Yet another completely different CSW – absolutely looking forward to his version of Dokko Jin!

Between watching images of the UK Royal Wedding and figuring out a way to listening to O.K. by B1A4 (strongly recommended, really cute
), and waiting for the next episodes of Manny & 49 Days (<3) to download, the week has sneaked to its end already!
I think what surprised me most this week was B1A4. Well, and that last episode of Manny. Seriously, that show just went from fun&cute to rather… awkward. I understand the need of the love triangle, but whatever they are trying to create between Janice and the manny, the chemistry is totally off. It's like it's on the actor&actress level, instead of the characters. Kind of hard to understand, as the female lead&themanny have a very natural chemistry… so is that off-chemistry thing bad acting, or good acting? I wonder.
Let's just hope that, whatever it is, it will sort itself out next week.
But you know, watching 49Days&Manny side to side does strange things to my brain. For some reason, my mind superimposes the Scheduler in the role of the Manny. Must be the hair style. Or wihful thinking.

Manny’s first two episodes were soo cute. Someone just mentioned that it’s started to get awkward though. I think definitely watch it.
Yeah, the first two or 3 episodes were fun and cute, but by the 4th one a few things were starting to wear thin with me. I just finished the 5th episode and I’m beginning to think I may have to put this one on my list of Dramas-to-watch-when there’s-nothing-better-to-do.
I have to admit I was kind of disappointed by the mom. The priordescription had her as some kick-ass businesswoman/mom, strong character, but the show has her as some not very confident person who gets constantly whacked over the head by her surroundings, and who wonders if the divorce she had was a good thing… which made me wonder, why did she divorce in the first place, then? I mean, it sure looks as if she was the one who initiated it, and there should be some anger or something… but she’s just like a wet towel. Like she can’t be a person without a guy by her side.
There’s certainly a lot of hiccuping in the plot&writing… the entire Janice&manny thing is so forced. But like I said, i hope it will find back its footing.
Second the disappointment with the mom character. Also, the Manny was straight up wrong to take Eun bi to the audition without her mother’s permission. Wrong, wrong, wrong, and the mom had every right to be as mad as she was.
@ tildy – I know, right? As a mom myself I would have been flipping out! When the mom pulled her out of the audition I thought she finally got a backbone…but then they totally had her back down, cuz, you know, the manny has to always be right.

I’ve never commented in an open thread before but I was watching manny and just had to say this. The mom character is annoying me to death with her dumbness and lack of backbone. I was so frustrated when she lets even her own bratty children step all over her. Seriously.
The first thing I did was ordering their CD. Must. Be. Insane.
Manny is quite cute in the beginning, with lots of nice chemistry. Episodes 5&6 were getting out of whack, because they pushed in the “big sister&nanny” relationship thingy, and I’m not really sure what they are going to do with the mom&her kids. i mean, she&kids and the manny have a great chemistry, and mann vs Janice (big sister of the mom) was really fun to watch, but manny&Janice is very weird, and I’m not even sure it’s the characters.
In any case, I hope that the show will get back on track next week. It’s certainly worth a watch because of the kids&some thought-provoking stuff.
However, if loads of well-built young men with nothing on but swim trunks in all episodes scare you off, this show is nothing for you. Just a fair warning.
I think I might just skip episode 6 and wait until next week for 7 & 8 and see what happens then.
I was also surprised at how the mother’s character is playing out. The synopsis did make it sound like she was a confident, career woman; but what we got was so different than what I expected. She’s just so ineffectual….
Manny is pretty good so far. It started out super cute and still has most of it’s cuteness, but it’s starting to become a show about more that just the cute.
The recent development with Janice becoming part of the love triangle is a little awkward, yes, but I’m placing my trust on the writers, since they’ve been able to write pretty convincing plot lines for everything so far. From the last episode, I think they’re using the love for more of a comic effect than anything else. For a character like Janice, whose so brash and vicious to the rest of the world, it must be pretty awkward to realize that other people in this world could be, you know, kind-hearted human beings deserving of your respect and affection.
Honestly, more awkward that Janice’s newly found feelings are the flashbacks to Sam, the Manny’s surrogate father. Every time he comes on the screen and talks in his super stilted, super slow voice I have the urge just to mute the volume until his scene is over.

Yoon Kye Sang is a great actor. I read about him in JB’s articles this past week for “Best Love”. I didn’t recognize his name, but have since discovered that he has been in one of the kdramas I like “Crazy For You”! So, since I have become a bit more familarized with his work, I am even more excited to see “Best Love.”
Kang Nam Gil is one awesome actor!!! I would have to say that I am estimating him to be one of the best Kdrama comedy actors I have ever seen! (In less than a year of watching Kdramas.)

I love lee soo kyung and also kim sun ah. Lee su kyung is great with physical comedy.
Kang Nam Gil was one of my favorite characters in Return of Iljimae.
Yoon Kye Sang’s ability to convey the different characters using his body floored me. The fact that his real personality was a 180 from the ghost helped, but it couldn’t have been easy to make it so obvious.
Favorite actors: Kim Sun Ah and Ko Hyun Jung, and not just because she got to kiss PIE…
Kang Nam Gil in RoI was stunning, especially his farewell scene at the end. He’s a really great actor!
Agreed! Kang Nam Gil can pretty much play any type of character. And he’s acted in so many dramas. My friends and I always refer to him as Drama Ajusshi haha

Second, I started watching Tawainese “Love or Bread” with Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin. I found out about it after watching “It Started With A Kiss” and “They Kiss Again”. These two have a great acting dynamic with each other. However, the writing for “Love or Bread” left me bored after just two episodes and I couldn’t finish the third.
There was such great potential to see Joe Cheng in a complete opposite roll than what he usually does. But the actors and actresses can only can only carry a show so far. Without a good story, as we found out in “Mary Stayed Out All Night,” the show is left floundering.
Now there is a show of Joe Cheng’s that I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! “That Love Comes” was produced by tudou.com and I cannot find it translated anywhere. However, I recommend it for those who can watch a drama no matter what. Here is the link for those who are interested.

Yeah, I watched Love and Bread because I loved ArJoe so much in ISWAK 1 and 2, but it was a disappointment. I ended up finishing it, solely because I could watch Ariel watch paint dry, but the ending was so WTF and disappointing – be glad you dropped it.
I’m watching Love Contract with Ariel Lin and Mike He right now, and I like it. It’s a sweet, low key drama and the leads have good chemistry. Also Mike as a serious, lanky college boy is really hot.
I loved “Love Contract!” It had one seriously gross moment though… Remember when Mike He was cooking food and crying? His snot came out of his nose and went right into the food!!!!!
That scene and the ending scene where they do multiple endings are what I remember most of the drama.
EEW. I haven’t seen that yet – still only on episode 7.

Was it just me or was anyone else extremely annoyed with Time.com and the American media in general over the lack of coverage for the Time 100 Gala?
Rain won the Time 100 Most Influential People for the second time. So, where are the pictures? Where is the American media coverage? even on time.com there was nothing about him except a “Who is this person?” type of thing. I looked on all my favorite American haunts for some sort of picture or coverage and could only find coverage by YTN Korean media or fancams, which we know are completely unreliable as the fans are way too excited to take a good video.
So… either I am looking in the wrong places or this was a major snub!!! I am currently irritated by it. Just who are all those photographers and videographers wildly clicking/aiming their cameras at Rain and where did those pictures/videos go to?
I am so glad that Rain has a positive outlook on the event!!! He mentioned the hope of coming to America to act after his military service.
I had watched a Korean show “Happy Together” (2010)that he was on, translated of course, and they didn’t have the best view of Americans (for good reason). So I wonder what he really thinks of all his American fans who were outside at the 2011 Time 100 Gala on the red carpet screaming for him. Are they just a bunch of over-weight old women or can he appreciate their fangirl love?

I’m sure Korea has had plenty of laughs at America, so I feel it’s fair to have a good laugh at Korea. All in good spirits.
I’m watching the crime drama Sign and Episode 10 was epic in ways it wasn’t meant to be. Our heroes are investigating a murder that may involve an American soldier from a U.S. army base. The name of that base is … Camp Halloween. (It’s just up the road from Groundhog’s Day Air Force Base.) At first I thought it was a translating mistake done by the subbers, but no. Later on the clue club is looking through the roster of the base and there it is, in bold capital letters, Camp Halloween.
Speaking of the roster, I couldn’t help but notice that Jake Gyllenhaal appears to be doing a tour of duty in South Korea. Very patriotic of him, putting his acting career on hold like that.
But the topper came when the Korean D.A. goes to speak to the man in charge of Camp Halloween. He’s an older gentleman, dressed in fatigues, with his name prominently stitched on his uniform. Why, it’s none other than…

I am watching it as well. It skews more to the makjang side, with several secret births and such but I am hooked, nevertheless.
One thing I really like about NTOG is the way they are handling RaRa’s character. For example when RaRa found out about SaRan and DaMo, she was mad but that was it. It didn’t drag out to be some crazy-woman-bent-on-revenge-that-she-sells-her-soul kinda thing. She handled it like a mature person. I also liked the part where she meets with GongJoo and SohnJa in the restaurant and apologises for her behaviour towards them. Oh! and how she rubs salt into DaMo’s wound when she sees him on his date with that bitchy mama’s girl. It felt good to know that RaRa saw her friend SaRan as more important than a man that she fancied. I also admire her for letting her parents live their lives now, just just one simple condition. She isn’t exactly thrilled and still has her reservations, but she is acting very maturely and I like her for that.

Only You was okay. I think I held on only b/c it was plenty of face time w/ Jo Hyun-Jae. He cried and laughed. His acting has improved so much since this drama.

Morning all! It’s my first Open Thread post from my new job (and thus on the blackberry, so forgive any typos). I’ve been here since 7am *heaaddesk* It’s only been abt 4 days, so I’m still really new to everything, and in continual mild freakout whenever ppl want stuff from me. But so far so good! My cube mates are nice guys (one of them cute). Oh! And much better weather today, tho it’s cold in my office.
I am completely behind on the dramas I’m watching: The Return if Iljimae and Twinkling. Though I can’t be blamed for Twinkling. It seems whoever our subbers were have dropped Twinkling *sniff* I guess that opens me up for more dramas, if I weren’t so tired when I got home, but I’m already so invested in Twinkling! /whine

I’m pretty sure that guy knows who hyun bin is. I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned he looks like him. But I really should you guys because it could just be me. I’m going to do it next week. I may have to corner him while we’re microwaving our lunches or in the elevator. I think the elevator would be easier. Another reason I’m reluctant is he worked on my computer once and I can’t remember his name and his photo isn’t in the company directory!!!

Ack, talk about belated reply! Work picked up after I made my post, I had rehearsal after work, then I was just knackered. Saturday wasn’t any better. (Actually Saturday was a bit of a personal disaster, but I’ll not relive.) You have no idea how giddy your reply has made me. I haven’t really had a chance to talk about my new job to my friends yet, and when I get home I’m soooo tired. I haven’t been online from home all week.
The new stuff….I am a huge believer in making and taking notes! My trainers are both busy (the prsn I’m taking over for isn’t there at all) so they go pretty fast. Luckily one of the ppl who had the position before me made notes on everything, which are helpful, but I kinda wish they were even more explicit than they are. This is a whole new industry for me too!
There isn’t quite a company orientation, although there is a checklist, lol. It’s still sitting on my desk under the instructions for how to use the phones, to be reviewed as needed. (Oh, for the phones I had to make a copy of the stuff the girl said was most important and post it over my phone b/c I had a transfer-freakout. You only get a pass on those for so long.) On the other hand, there’s going to be an email with my picture and some basic facts about me going around the office. Eek! Luckily it’s me and about 17 other ppl.
The dress is business casual, which isn’t my fave, but could be worse. Another place I interviewed at the same time was closer to true business attire, and I would have had to wear makeup all the time. I know many women are all about the makeup, but I am not one of those. I’d have had to figure out how to work it into my sched. Silly, I know :s
The lunch break thing is heaven! Unless my bosses are in needing stuff, people in the office really expect me to leave. Haven’t had that in sooooo long. At my last job, my boss would kinda follow you around (via phone), or we’d be so busy I was lucky to remember to eat. The job before that, we were just far from stuff so I couldn’t really go anywhere. Now, though? Two people in church told me I have a tan
Joy! No friends yet, though. I’m almost literally in a corner, so it’s hard to connect with anyone, even my cubemates. They’re, like, engineering/drafting types (I have no idea what they do!) and almost all the other admin staff is closer to the front. But everyone has been really nice, so it’s cool. I did run into a really cute Asian guy on the way in from lunch on Friday. Unfortunately, he works downstairs (he held the door open for me!) and I work upstairs, so it’s unlikely that I’ll get to see him often. Gotta find out what department he works for…
Anywho, I think that’s everything. So far it’s slower-paced than my last job, but that’s exactly what I need. I started to get bored on Friday and almost had to slap myself. “Exciting” left me too mentally exhausted to finish my novel at my last job! Now I just have to get used to my crazy time-schedule and I should be fine.

1. What are you rehearsing for? Do you sing, act, dance or all of the above?

I tried posting this morning, but I did something wrong and the blog ate it *headdesk* Anywho, here are my answers, which I don’t mind giving
1. I’m an amatuer singer. Most of my bandmates are professional (or aspiring to be) professional musicians, but I’ve known our teacher and our lead guitarist since I was about 9, and I’m many years older than that now!
2. The company checklist is more for the person doing the orientation for the new guy/gal than for me personally. There will, however, be an email going around soon with my picture and pertinent/interesting stats. Meep! Luckily there are about 18 other new hires recently.
3. I leave notes everywhere! I always have. I even do it at home when I’ve got something big or out of the ordinary to remember. I’m telling you, my blackberry is a lifesaver with its detailed notes capabilities. At my old job, my monitor had a multi-colored halo of post-it notes, much to my co-worker’s bemusement.
4. We don’t have a cafeteria, just a full sized fridge. There are a few places to eat around here, and a really nice park to sit in on nice days. The food can be pretty expensive though. I paid 3.75 for a breakfast of OJ and a muffin! Tomorrow, I try a different deli.
5. I got my tan eating my lunch in the park the two nice days we had last week. I was sitting in full sun (all the shady spots were taken, as you can imagine). I used to sunbathe, though, and I still like it. It’s probably for the best that I don’t have the time anymore. :s And I kinda do have more free time, in that people really expect me to be gone and unavailable if/when I go out for lunch, unlike my previous boss who’d call you no matter where you were.

7. I recently finished writing and editing a novel. I now need to find an agent. Squee!
8. They’re actually commercial electricians. I know some of the guys and gals here are engineers, but I don’t think my 2-3 guys are, actually. I think they’re estimators, but I’m not quite sure what all that entails. I’ll have to ask someone when everyone’s a little less crazed.

I finally have the free time to watch k-dramas, and the first on my to-watch list is 49 Days!!!
I saw about 2 episodes last night and I’m already kind of obsessed with the show. KANG-AHHH, you’re so cute!! And the Scheduler, you’re adorable too! I can’t wait to catch up to the current episodes now!
I’ve been watching Manny too (anyone else out there?) and I’ve been really happy with the way the show is progressing! The only thing that kinda bugs me is that now Janice is falling for the Manny, which even sounds wrong to write down. I’m hoping that this emotion is played for comedy, however, since next week’s episode seems to indicate that AND looks fantastic. I’m SO ready to see jealous Janice do stupid things in the name of LURVE. As long as the The Powers That Be don’t pair Janice and the Manny off in the end.
Amen to that one.
The chemistry between Janice&Manny is just off. It wasn’t in the first episodes – even with the “I can’t stand you” thing going on, but now it’s like the Manny’s just wanting to run very fast when he’s in the same room with her. Perhaps that’s just the character’s supposed “No affairs with employers” radar, but that weird tension/skittishness still feels wrong. It feels like it’s not acted. I mean, it totally doesn’t match with the rest of the actor’s body language during the scene.
You know, I was imagening the Scheduler being stuck with “Manny” duties. Can you picture his grumpiness trying to supervise the kids?
I think I’d probably die from the hilarity of it all… and then die of laughter again when I saw his face to take me to the Elevator of Doom.

couple appear.The main actor is really different level of Mr Darcy and I love the way the girl are being so straigth forward.Her character has been really likeable and real; she is not trying to be angelic , honest with herself and deep down a kind hearted girl.
I’m also LOVING this drama, the most of anything that’s currently airing. It’s the only one I’m following.
I’ve watched up to ep 13, which is how much withs2 has subbed. How does Darksmurf work? It seemed like too much hassle to register and stuff when I checked it out, when the subs might not be good quality. How is working for you?
If you are desperate like me, you can download the eps and subs safely from these sites. You will need to register, which is no big deal.
Yes, the subs can be lol funny because they are done with software, but there is a volunteer group who goes in and cleans them up. The are updated all the time.
(My favorite s/w sub is that the character Dae Bum is translated as Big Fan. That is what I call him now!)

Name them the same thing in the same file, and when you play the .avi, the sub will automatically load. It is a miracle to me.

1…You name the files the same thing except for the extension, i.e., 1tt,2tt,3tt,etc.
2…They are both in the same folder.
You don’t have to create separate folders for each episode. All those from one show can reside nicely in one happy folder.
This only took me about five tries before I said, “Oh! The same name!”

After getting all the files ready for iMovie, which took a few hours of not thinking work, I prolly took 3 or 4 hours to get 2:05 of video in the sequence that worked with the music and lyrics. I have to say that I could spend a week straight non-stop doing these videos. I LOVE IT!
That was my first one. I learned a lot doing it, and will be able to do the next one faster, I think.
My other favorite part is going through my iTunes list to pick out songs to make the videos to. I have 5 or 6 that’ll be fun…My next is a secret, so tell nobody. I’m doing one for a Partridge Family song!! My second crush: David Cassidy

about 49 days, i don’t know if some people see what I saw. But, I’m more invested with the real ji hyun than Ji hyun in Yi kyung’s body. I don’t know, It’s a weird feeling. She charmed me the most. I see more sincerity in nam gyu ri which i can’t feel when ji hyun in yi kyung’s body. Often I cried when nam gyu ri as ji hyun. I know it doesn’t make sense since lee yo won is better actress. And I’m not a nam gyu ri fans before. In fact i hate her acting in the first episode.
Don’t stone at me lee yo won’s fans. I just find lee yo won’s eyes really dull even when she is act as ji hyun. Maybe it just me.
I feel the same way you do — I like Ji Hyun when she’s in Yi Kyung’s body, but I love it when we get to see her as “herself” in spirit form. I think Lee Yo Won is a great actress and doing a wonderful job with the role, but the Ji Hyun that I love is Nam Gyu Ri’s Ji Hyun, and I wish we saw more of her. There’s just something so adorable and heartfelt about NGR’s performance — she’s the one that makes me get teary. I want to see NGR’s Ji Hyun survive and get a happy ending with Kang, cause she’s just so endearing to me.
i agree with you. i’m far more invested in nam gyuri’s portrayal of jihyun than lee yowon’s. doubtless, lee yowon’s doing a great job of showing the stark differences between jihyun and yikyung but i still feel more emotion for nam gyuri’s jihyun. i do wish nam gyuri would get to at least voice jihyun’s thoughts, even when she is in yikyung’s body, but ah well. nevertheless, i’m thoroughly enjoying the show.

I’m kind of enjoying the Drama Special Hair Show. Although I think that the actual hair portion of the show is butt ugly, HyunWoooo~~~<3
The lead actress is swaying me to her side with her bubbly charm. Sometimes it goes a hair too far, but she's solid and expressive without being cheesy.
Although seeing HyunWoo as the overlooked 2nd lead is k-drama sad, I'm glad to see him moving away from his cute image from Pasta.
I can’t WAIT for May to get rolling and to try and juggle the 4 or 5 must see dramas (although I am sure at least 2 will prove themselves not worth watching). Waiting for the weekend for Manny and 49 Days is killing me, more dramas means I can spread my kdrama love throughout the week. It’s also taking incredible willpower not to read the recaps of 49 Days before I can find it subbed. I want to know what’s going on but I can’t “spoil” it for when I watch it.

To be honest I haven’t been able to restrain my expectations for BL, which have shot sky-high, but with Lie to Me, knowing it’s a live-shoot from the beginning and the basic plotline, I’ll honestly be happy just to watch those two bicker, fight, scream and kiss for 16 hours. If it’s well-written and logical, well, May will just be the best month ever.

I too am not health happy today. I am fighting a cold which triggered a migrane headache. My skin on my face hurts and I am in darkness because the sun hurts my eyes and my left ear is thrumming a beat and my right ear is screaming in pain.
But I won’t let it get me down, so here I am chatting happily away.
I’m just crazy that way. I have learned that I haven’t experienced pain so bad as when I was in labor. So everything else is just minor pains in comparison.
Aww. I hope you feel better soon. And yes, I find Dramabeans to be a great distraction from pain as well!

May is going to be a busy month for Kdrama watching.
I’m watching 49 DAYS…loving the story and the casts. Just so frustrating to have to wait a week for 2 epis…sigh. And I only started watching this week…am thankful I didn’t start before..
Also check out Manny, it’s cute so far…but I’m hoping for more substance…
Also while waiting, checked out Can You Hear My Heart? Totally cool…heartwarming family stuff…with the kids totally stealing the show in the first few episodes…
I think I’m killing myself here, committing to so many dramas before the May onslaught of dramas…might drop Manny…if the going gets tough. I’m gonna try and watch all four of the May offers…so I guess it’s six dramas a week, equals to 12 hours a week of drama plus two hours of Running Man and 2D1N….but now that Song Joong Ki is dropping out of RM, I’ll have to wait and see…
So sad SJK is leaving Running Man….where will I go to get a dose of you now…..

A Special Report
Global climate change has taken a more disturbing turn lately, since it’s effects are no longer confined to the physical world of so called “Real Life”. It has leached into the hallowed soil of Dramaland causing devastating drought in one season and a flood in another.
The denizens are very worried. I recently interviewed a devout drama addict, who shall be called ah.. Mojo. Yes, Mojo.
She seemed a little lost when I met her. She pointed at her empty laptop screen, black and cold as the depth of space.
“I used to watch at two or more dramas a week. 4 episodes you know, but now, … It was worse a few weeks ago, there was NOTHING. Just a ringing silence where Moony/Yummy, Hoi Hoi couple, Milky couple used to be….”
Her voice broke at this point and she covered her face with her hand. I maintained a respectful silence in respect to the magnitude of her loss.
After a minute, she seem to compose herself and continued in a much lighter tone “But at least now there is 49 days. There is Kang Ah” A smile slowly flowed into her face at the mention of his name “Kang Ah” she repeated again, it seem to sooth her.
I was feeling soothed too. There must be some hidden power in this name, though I never watched 49 days, I could still feel a warm sense of well being flow through me. So, it surprised me when Mojo’s smile slowly leaked away.
She held her knees close to her chest and looked at me through wise, sad eyes.
“Can you hear it? A storm is coming. A maelstorm of dramas that will suck you into it’s vortex. Lie to Me, Best Love, Baby Faced Beauty, City Hunter, Ripley… their name is Legion because they are many. ”
She looked at me through haunted eyes “I am afraid”
A chill went through my spine at her words, because as I listened to the silence, I too could hear the faint cries of fangirls on the wind. The Dramas are coming. BEWARE.
I think all this upcoming dramas talk will jinx them! Nixy!

For a while last year, the iPad was not an approved device in Korea. It is now. That should be ok. However, using it in SK is another story if you have AT&T. If you have the international plan, you may be good to go (if out $$$) You should be able to wifi to your hearts content, though. If you do, remember to use https, encrypt the heck out of stuff, and where possible, use secured networks ($) over free (and unsecured) don’t do anything on an unsecured network that you wouldn’t want to assume the guy sitting next to you can see. Like…banking. Don’t be doing that.

Looking at the comments, I think I will try Twinkle Twinkle in the summer when I’m on holidays. Lol. I can’t believe I wanna watch so many weekend dramas with a million eps.
Anyhow, I really liking CYHMH and I find the interaction between WR and her dad really sweet. And the pace is really good too. They don’t drag things out and I like it.
How is everyone doing? Heard about the tornadoes in the US and I hope everyone’s alright. Heard about the royal wedding but didn’t tune in. (Hey, I didn’t watch Diana’s wedding and it didn’t do any harm to me so I guess not watching Kate’s won’t as well.) Sleep and homework are priority these days.

Speaking of CYHMH, do you think that Jang Joon Ha is gonna succumb to the wiles of his adoptive mother? I think she (Adopt-o-mom) is manipulative and out to destroy his real mother through him. I wonder if she knows who his real father is?
His real mother (Absorb-o-mom) seems to be self-absorbed and she probably wouldn’t care other than she might loose her meal ticket.
Ugh! Why are these women like this over a man who is a murderer? Go figure…
I think Cha Dong Joo is smart to play things very “close to his chest.” If step-daddy finds out he’s playing with “a full deck,” he might try to kill him too.

So, does DJ’s mom know all his marbles are there? I did see a flash-back where she tried to throw him off the cliff as a child. What a mom!!! I could think of better ways to help my child regain his memories and speech after a horrifying accident. But no, lets just throw him off the cliff because I am tired of him being like this!!!

DJ’s mom doesn’t know who killed her father (the grandfather) only DJ does.. and he pretends he doesn’t remember anything but falling from the house and hitting his head.
When DJ was in the hospital his mother was a mess. They didn’t know if he’d wake up and she turned to his father and said “Lets just all die together” so she’s been on that kick for a while before she dragged him to the cliff. The father was giving the “No thanks” look, but JH/MR as a kid said “We’re family, if you drag DJ off to the cliff take me too” that’s why she has this respect for him. Also she’s creepily attached to JH/MR almost replacing him in the father role.. which grosses us all out.
Er, I also want to clarify that JH/MRs real mother also knows who killed Dong-joos grandfather as well so she can play the blackmail game. Too bad she has no idea where her son is.

I was under the impression that MR/JH’s adopted mother knows who his real parents are, from that conversation she heard at the stairwell during her father’s wake and how her father died. I watch without subs so I might be wrong.
Now, talking about MR/JH, I’m pretty surprised that he doesn’t seem to hate his real family anymore. He looks at them with soft eyes, a lingering feeling and even feels something from watching WR and their dad. Maybe he matured and thought things through growing up but the intense hate that he showed and that prompted him to run away just isn’t there anymore.
I, too, have some reservations for DJ’s mother. I’m not sure if what she feels for MR/JH is real or is it just out of her own manipulative ways. I actually don’t like the ways she uses what JH (I’m gonna stick with his new name) said at the cliff, that if they were to live or die, they would do it together because without them, he is/has nothing. I really hope she loves him sincerely as a son because it would be really cruel to him if that wasn’t the case.
Regarding JH’s real mom…I think she doesn’t really love or want him, but want him around to coax or threaten DJ’s dad or have JH take over his company instead of DJ. Just like you said, he’s her meal ticket.
And finally, DJ is one shrewed person to keep the many things that he knows to himself and playing Hamlet by ‘forgetting’ what happened the day of his accident. We saw that when WR called him Piano Teacher and mentioned the melodeon, he remembered who she was, which is evidence that he didn’t lose his memory in the accident. I think DJ has some ideas as well, on how to handle the situation with his dad and that cosmetic company is the start of it. What’s more, he did love his grandpa deeply, so he might want to avenge his death.
Another thing I like about the show are its secondary characters. Seung Chul, his parents, Mi Sook (the pharmacist?) and WR’s dad. They are what make weekend dramas more enjoyable.
Can’t wait for this weeks’ episodes!
The adopted mother says something to the effect of “if only they knew how well you grew up” to JH at the party, she definitely knows what she’s doing.
I think JH never hated his family, he was just deeply embarrassed and frustrated by them. Like at the fight in the beginning between his father and the dude out for Mi Sooks money he turned away. He looked like he felt like crap about the whole watch deal later on. I don’t know if he wanted to get away for a greedy purpose, or is going for a cold dish revenge plot years in the making.
Seung Chul! I love him. The weird crazy pharmacist is Min Soo and I want them to get together so everyone wish for me so it happens <3

There is something to be said about ignorance, or at least the lack of knowledge or respect that we show at times concerning others.
Prejudice raises its ugly head at the most peculiar times, and in a very almost unassuming way it reveals the inner core beliefs of most human beings.
So what effect the Royal Wedding has upon my life as an American citizen? And the answer is not much, but to try to be dismissive about an incident the was witness by most of the whole world, it shows our prejudicial bias.
I do get the “Hype,” the Royal Wedding at its core reflects @ thousand year of Monarchical rule in the British Isles and for most people in England it is attached very close to its national identity.
Most people around this blog are not 100% pure Americans , ethnically speaking, a lot of people here post from places far away from the USA, and we tend or try to be racially respectful of ethnic backgrounds, but I noticed that when it comes to Americans, and English people at large, our criticism of their culture is more easily given, and the way they are criticize is far more negative than the way we criticize, the rest of the world.
People are “Bitching” about a wedding that for all intended purposes shows the British Monarchy in a very good light for once, it rises the national identity of the English people at large and lets face it, for most woman Kate represents the dream turn into reality that millions of woman around the world, have dreamt at least once in their lifetime.
Nobody in this blog has made a “Fuss,” over the hundreds of people that have die in the Middle East in past few weeks, no body has condemn the war that is going on between Cambodia and Thailand at this very moment, nobody has said anything concerning the “Human Rights” violations in China, nobody has raise the issue about the violence of the Drug/cartels in Mexico, etc,etc,etc.
Why? Maybe we think is always “Cooler” to bash those “White Imperialist.” I am afraid that when we do that it does not say much about Americans or British people at all, but speaks volumes about our own prejudices.

wow I don’t even know where to start! First there is no such thing as an ethnic nationality. I didn’t note any criticism that was specific to america or great britain in regard to the wedding. it’s not that we don’t understand the important role this event marks in our lives it’s only that in the simplest form it’s a wedding in a complex form it’s a marriage that will be really difficult that shouldn’t be glammed up to make us forget the sacrifice this woman is making. ( I’m anti marriage in general so my bias there is huge)
while this blog is about social commentary it is very specific to korean dramas and korean culture. certainly sometimes we go off topic but it isn’t the thing. my home country is very pro foreigner ( we love ‘em) and we have a very rosy memories of colonialism but the fact is colonialism’s benefits are just as lumpy as its lumps.
First of all, I do agree that prejudice against any group is bad, whether that group is a minority or not, and that it does pop up in subtle ways.
However, I haven’t seen any evidence on Dramabeans – on OT or elsewhere – of people bashing Americans or British, nor do I think the comments about not getting the hype are either disrespectful or prejudiced. No one is “bitching about [the] wedding” – they are remarking on the overexposure, the insane media coverage that this wedding has been getting not just today but for the past few weeks. The media’s imbalance in covering stories like this rather than the more important stories you mentioned is nothing new – it happened with Diana and Charles – but it’s still lazy journalism, and kind of irritating.
Also, why haven’t people been mentioning the very serious and disturbing current issues that you mentioned? This actually supports my point about the overhyped news coverage of the wedding. Why hasn’t the media been reporting on THOSE stories rather than the weird hats at the wedding and lip-reader’s voyeristic accounts of what the couple said to each other privately? (I sincerely wish them happiness – it won’t be easy to live a married life under such pressure and scrutiny.)
And in regards to the double standard when criticizing the US and Britain as opposed to other countries, you cannot ignore the very real difference in power. While injustice is injustice, when a country as powerful as the US or Britain commits such an injustice, its scale and influence are exponentially higher. Not to mention, this comes as a response to the much more deadly double standard among the governments of the world, NATO, etc. that punishes small developing countries for crimes/abuses that are overlooked when committed by the US and its allies.
I’m an American too, by the way, but I’m not blind to my country’s problems. I don’t know what you mean by “100% pure Americans” though, because if you’re linking being American to race that’s a problem in itself.
Also, that “thousand year of Monarchical rule in the British Isles” may be a part of the British identity, but it also has a brutal, bloody history of imperialism and enslavement of peoples all over the world, and the many MANY people who come from formerly colonized cultures are not about to forget that legacy because of a parade of pomp and circumstance and a beautiful young couple.

I too don’t know what you mean by being “100% pure Americans” because isn’t the “United States of America” created by founding fathers who immigrated from the Eastern hemisphere to what we call USA of today?
Now, if we start to open a can of worms how Native Americans strive, when forced on reservations and isolated from their once freedom land, then I will find your word choices be more useful.

While Dramabeans Blog is an avenue that deals mostly with Korean culture and dramas, the OT section is a place where we rant/rave about what ever we feel like it at the moment, my post was not inserted in any other part but the section where issues like this are appropriate to post, if I had posted this rant in any other section than I will agree with you that I was out of line, but I do not feel that my post was out of line at all.
I do not have a problem when people disagree with what I write, all I am trying to say, and I stand by my original statement that some people in this blog, have made some very disrespectful comments concerning Americans, and English at large, while if I was made the same comment but used the words “Arabs, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, a lot of people here will be up in arms, but when we make derogatory comments specially about Americans, all of a sudden there nothing but silence, or people act like yes is cool to say those things about them, while condemning others if they used a different ethnic group.

I have watched it RAW all the way through and never had a dull moment! It’s pretty fast paced, for me, and suspenseful. I would recommend it. If you find you don’t like it then you can just stop watching it. Ji Sung is awesome it it!!! His character Han Ji Hoon is vibrant!

Gave up glee last year. I think it has deteriorated since the first 10 episodes of season1.
the wedding was paid for by the Middleton family and Prince Charles. The security, which cost 20 million pounds, was paid for the the tax payers. But a day like this comes only once in a while and is a real tonic to the British and brings us all together so I don’t mind my taxes going on this. I wish them all the best.

Just finish watching episode 1 and 2 of Jdorama “Muscle Girl” with Lee Hong Ki (Jeremy) asYo Jiho, and Ichikawa Yui as Shiratori Azusa. I kinda like it reminds me of “Yankee-kun to Megane-chan.” as it has the manga/anime feel to the show.
Quick synopsis : Story
Shiratori Azusa is the only child of the owner of a small female pro wrestling group called Shiratori Pro Wrestling.
Her father dies of illness and while the players – Uonuma Mai, Muko Aoi, Hoshi Kaoru and Sudo Tsukasa are observing the 49th day after his death, both the players of the rival pro wrestling group, Aoibara-gun, and their manager, Gohara Koji, appear at the training hall. Gohara thinks of pro wrestling as a business and although he had broken away from Shiratori Pro Wrestling, he intends to disqualify this small group which continues to be in the red and has nothing but players who are write-offs.
Azusa and the others are enraged and end up scuffling with the Aoibara-gun. Azusa wishes to keep the group going, but in reality, it is mired in debt.
On the day of the match that was to be their final on the circuit, even Yoshida the referee runs away. On this day, Yo Jiho, a famous star in South Korea who has come to Japan to act in a Japan-South Korea joint blockbuster movie, is walking on the streets alone. Jiho was raised single-handedly by his mother, Lee Sunjae, but she left behind clues that she might be in Tokyo, and disappeared.
He has escaped from Kurogane Nobuhiro, the president of the talent agency which has imposed a busy schedule on his every day, and gone in pursuit of his mother’s trail. Then, he encounters Azusa who mistakes him for the similar-looking Yoshida and beseeches him to be her impromptu referee … …
