Dream High 2 begins pre-production

Dream High Season 2 is ready to begin pre-production work, according to a source with the production company, who’s aiming to broadcast the sequel next January. While airdates are always flexible, the producers are in a good position, having already concluded scheduling talks with KBS and getting their agreement.

Currently they’re in scriptwriting mode, and plan to begin casting after they’re done with scripts. (The drama previously announced a reality show to follow the audition process for the background cast; no updates on that at the moment, but I’m assuming that’s still a go.)

I presume they mean they’ll cast after completing the pilot script, not all the episodes, although how fabulous would it be to have this drama totally pre-planned? Dramas that are 100% pre-produced haven’t historically had the most success with audiences, but this is a case where it could really work, since they’ve already proven their ability to construct a heart-tugging narrative and carry it through effectively. On the flipside of that coin, this IS also an idol drama, so I can see the push for live-shooting as well, to best cater to fan responses.

According to the production rep, they haven’t totally decided whether to extend the story established in Season 1, or whether to build an entirely new story, and are considering all possibilities. Personally, I’d LOVE if they kept Kirin alive, and just rotated out the student stories. That maximizes the world already established, brings back some favorite characters (Jin-man! Oh-hyuk! Kyung-jin!), and also frees them up to swap in busy idols who would have difficulty committing to more than one season. Other K-dramas have attempted the season format but none have been truly successful, or true sequels, either — but maybe what Korea really needs is one great high school serial. Chop-chop, I’m waiting!

I wish they kept the same cast but they stuffed that possibility by fast forwarding it to 2018. Now we already know what happens in the future so whats the point of continuing from where they left off as teens? unless they make it based in 2018, which would be silly

so yeah i think the old cast will just get cameos sadly

OMG~!! I'm so excited for this. I agree with keeping the teachers (especially Jin-Man!!!!) and switching the students. I really hope for a great actor, much like Soohyun, and can also sing well~!! They better hurry, cause I CAN'T WAIT~!!

I'm in the middle of Dream High right now, and painstakingly avoiding spoilers, but I just had to comment to say:
1) A sequel? YES!!
2) It had better be at least a large fraction as AWESOME as the first one, with equally lovable characters. I'm really dreading finishing this show, but the promise of another one on the way is hopeful.

I personally will not be watching if they are not planning to extend Season 1's characters and story-lines when they're older and successful. Basically, I don't care about the high school, but only the characters. I'm really not interested in a shitty sequel with desperate idols trying to live up to first season.

Considering how things go, if it is a new season of sorts, wouldn't Eun Jung have to be in the drama since she's a teacher at Kirin now?

They should keep all the previous actors because they are all outstanding singers&actors (espically Kim Pil Sook IMO)!!!!, but continuing from where the first series ended will be to hard =[. Dream High is titled off Sam Dong song and group so therefore a new storyline with new members?? (sad face) There is so many things they can and CAN'T DO.
But I am still going to watch it, if the cast/storyline changes =).

can't wait for dream high 2. but i hope they'll make hye mi(suzy) and jin-gook (taecyeon) together at last. rather than hye mi with sam dong. hyemi-jin gook is better.

Isn't Eun Jung (Baek Hee) a dance teacher in the ending? She will definitely be in season 2.

i hope they'll keep the old cast and add the remaining cast that they plan to put in this season, so all of the fans of Dream High 1 will keep their support on the coming season for their favorite characters. Its just like killing 2 birds in 1 stone.
