A newbie’s been added to the manga-adapted movie You’re My Pet, which brings the movie’s Haneul count to two: First Kim Haneul and now Kang Haneul. (Not to mention Jang Geun-seok, of course.)
Kang Haneul plays a musical actor, Young-soo, who’s friends with leading man In-ho (Jang Geun-seok) and also acts as his romance coach. Hm, I wonder how he’ll seem like the experienced one when he’s years younger than Jang (he’s 21) and still has his baby face. Maybe that’ll be part of the funny.
Kang’s also got a bit of musical experience (he’s performed in productions of Thrill Me, Spring Awakening, Carpe Diem, and La Vida), so the movie’ll give him a chance to show off some of his singing.
But really, the bigger question this news raises is: They’re still casting??? This movie was announced ages ago (more than a year back) and then stalled for months with no updates. Then Kim Haneul was cast and news resumed this March, so I’d presumed they’d be chugging right along. Eep! Let’s hope the production jumps into high gear when it (finally!) begins principal photography this month.
Kang called You’re My Pet “an entertaining, warm movie that anybody who’s in love will be able to relate to. Since I’m playing such a bright, lively character, I’ll do my best to be an energizing force in this romantic comedy.”
You’re My Pet features a beautiful, competent careerwoman who unfortunately lacks that same capable spirit in her personal relationships, who “adopts” a classical ballet dancer (Jang) as a pet, and follows the friendship that develops between them. I’m dubious about the plot, but Jang Geun-seok pouring on the cute, falling for his noona, dancing, and flinging his gloriously lustrous locks around like he’s some Pantene model? (“Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful!”) It’s either going to be cringe-inducingly awful, or some kinda awesome.

I cant totally see JGS as Momo and KHN as Sumire…now all they gotta do is stick to the original storyline (maybe with a little spicing up here and there) and it will be great
I’m watching this for Jang Geun Suk, of course. I tried watching the J-dorama, but the whole concept was really weird to me…does the guy really have to be a pet?
Still, I’m glad JGS isn’t playing yet another musician. It might be fun watching him dance.
Yeh…he has to be. lol. I read the manga first and I started reading it with raised eyebrows but the manga turned out to be really awesome….then the drama adaptation was so well done. Now I’ll seee what my Korean friends do with it. JGS needs more of a ‘Momo’ hairstyle because his current tresses do nothing for Momo.
agree with everything you said here, this is my experience with Kimi Wa Petto as well. I think its amazing how they took such a strange and unrealistic premise and created a story with such awesome character development and real feeling. Hopefully that translates well into movie format though, because I think a large part of what got me in the manga/jdrama was the development. It was just the right speed, you know? Not rushed, but not draggy.
And yeah, sooo stoked about JGS’s casting, but I hope he cuts his hair a bit shorter, like Momo’s. I’m sure he can rock it either way, but in the first post Javabeans had on this topic there was a pick of him looking totes Momo-ish. I squealed when I saw that. SQUEALED.
Can I have the Scheduler as my pet? He could wear his french fries jacket. Hehe.
Or better yet, can I have In Jung & Min Ho as my pets?
I could turn sadistic & torture them with no remorse at all.

When I read about this movie, I quickly searched the manga. I only read up to chapter 7 (It was manga or dramas. I had my phase with manga. Maybe i´ll be back there, someday) Its very entertaining, and i only read the “introduction”. I can picture Jang Geun-seok being a good Momo.

He plays a love coach? His looks give off more like a wing man to me. Somehow things may not go well listening to this feller. It’s the thought that counts, not the action? Oy. I’m jumping ahead of myself again. How else can there be drama in a rom-com?
The japanese drama was great. Discovered Mastumoto Jun in it, and loved every minute of it.
I so loved the drama in fact that I bought the whole series which was being published in France at the time. Unfortunately, the manga didn’t work for me. All characters just irritated me nonstop…. I found it boring at best.
If they manage to do as as good as the dorama, I’m all for it.
Aw man, movie???! A 12 episode drama like the Japanese version was a perfect amount for good pace. Even maybe 14 eps but I’m guessing that screws up schedules so 16 eps.

i first found out about kimi wa petto early this year bcoz of JGS’s You’re My Pet project..then i saw Kimi Wa Petto..and fell inlove with momo takeshi jun matsumoto^_^lolz and then “YOSSHA!!YOSHA!! Prince Domyouji!! am so crazy over him now!!! I LOVE MATSUJUN MOMO^_^ i hope JGS can pull it^_^
