Ep 1 & 2 of Best Love was good, but 3 & 4 has just upped my enjoyment of it so much. Strong actors + Hong sisters = full of win.
I rarely ship second leads (Guh-Ro was the one and only), and especially not in the Hong sisters’ dramas where the OTPs are always sold so convincingly.. But Yoon Kye Sang as Pil-Joo is beyond adorable. Love CSW, but I’m loving Ae-Jung and Pil-Joo’s interactions way more so far… It’s pretty much a given he won’t get the girl but still can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
Not watching 49 Days is killing me when practically every k-drama watcher is raving about it. It has taken every ounce of self-control not to read recaps or start watching it (because I know I won’t be able to stop and can’t afford the time right now heh). Best Love and Lie To Me must suffice for now. Must.. exercise.. self..control.. *sighs*
Can’t wait for semester break to catch up on everything else!

Best Love is my fav drama right now. Laughing no doubt is the best medicine and this drama does it for me.

Happy Friday everyone!! Has anyone heard anything about the Korean Hana Kimi? So far I hear Yoona and Minho are rumored to be cast as the lead couple. I will be a bit disappointed if it ends up being true. Did it really have to be SM remaking this drama??
Yes, a few months ago I heard of that rumor… Yoona? ._. No way, I hope that’s not true. I have nothing against her (I am a huge SNSD fan) but she doesn’t fit Ashiya Mizuki at. all.
Right. I consider myself a fan as well, but I like my music and dramas separately. I don’t think Yoona would be right for the part. And I’m not a fan of the idols as actors trend. Not that there shouldn’t be any.. if they have the talent for it. But don’t just cast idols for ratings. It’ll end up backfiring.
I think Yoona would be too tall for the part! I thought Mizuki was supposed to be an effeminate looking man who is actually a female.
FYI there’s rumors there’s going to be another Japanese remake of Hanakimi.. jeez it’s only been four years.

I’m gonna get burned for this, but f(x)’s Amber just fits the description of the lead girl. I can’t see Yoona chopping off all her hair and acting like one of the guys.
I won’t burn you, but unless Amber gets shoulder-length hair… no. IDK, Mizuki wasn’t really portrayed as that manly in the manga. Or maybe I can’t remember it correctly cos I finished that a few years ago.

oh same here! To me, Hana Kimi is all about Nakatsu. I liked Sano, but never really rooted for Sano, in both the manga and jdorama. I hope SM better get an actual actor to play this role.
Heechul should definitely be in it to crank up the wackiness, he would make a great Oscar imo.

Oh gosh, not Yoona! I think she’s an okay actress in small doses, but not as the lead! If it has to be an SM girl- looks and aura-wise – I can sort of see SNSD’s Sooyoung as Mizuki. Amber too, like someone mentioned, but I’m not sure if SM will let Amber wear a skirt and Mizuki does dress up as a girl at some pt in the manga.

She will need to cut her hair short though. But yeah since Hana Kimi is more on the comedy side Sooyoung will fit better (I thought she was rather funny in Unstoppable Marriage)

I heard it is supposed to come out this summer.
I really hope this comes out this summer. I’m worried about the cast too… i don’t have anything against idol actors intrinsicallym unlike a lot of people, as long as they’re cast well. dream high, for example, was brilliant! but that also was about idols so it worked for that reason too. I hope they put in a mix of sm idols with true actors to even things out. Though I am a hard core super junior fan, i’m not sure if any of those boys fit sano’s or nakatsu’s characters, but we’ll see. They’re going to have to cast very carefully since the japanese version pretty much nailed it… big shoes people big shoes…
that said, this is my favorite manga of all time and provided they don’t completely ruin it, i’ll probably be a fan. and if they DO ruin it, at least i have the japanese version to appreciate still, right?

Yoon Eun Hye, is rocking her character in Lie to me, Jang Nara is quite good in Baby Face, and Gong Hyo-jin is by far the best in Best Love, as for Romance Town, I think its just getting started…… Even tough Yoon Eun Hye is my favorite actress I think the Hong Sisters have the most solid story line of the new dramas, as for49days I am just glad that the drama did not “tank” en the last third of the drama, the writer has manage to keep the story moving forward, lets hope that the last 2 episodes do not tank, JB and GF thank you for your hard work!!!!! : O }

I’ve been captivated by Kim hyun joo since one of my first Kdramas “Marrying a millionaire”. In Twinkle she’s brilliant. How well matched she is with the decent good looks & attitude of KimSuk hoon as Seung joon. I’m glad to see more of them in the next 20+ more eps.

Regarding Baby-Faced Beauty, She is good. However, I am just not feeling it. I need a fresh perspective, I think because the face-slap just hit me on a wrong note. It’s a funny show, but what about the story-line… What are your thoughts?
I HATED that slap! The show seems to be just based on the concept “Let’s see in how many ways we can humiliate her”
Also, I want smack the little sister!! She is such an entitled, spoiled brat!!! She makes my blood boil!

I watched romance town, and let me just say that Jung Kyeo Woon’s character is sure to be my new “Kang ahhhhhh” crack. He is the new white night of romcoms! I’m also really enjoying Sung Yuri’s spunky character. And they look AMAZING together. Annnnndddd they were adorable together when he was still in the fat suit eating popcorn in the car.
So far the drama is really good!!! I hope you all do some sort of recap for it-it’s so deserving! I actually found romance town to be a lot more engaging than lie to me, surprisingly enough…but I will continue watching all the new dramas

I’ve been watching Wedding, with Jang Nara, and I will probably finish it, that will be my drama to watch in between waiting for sub releases. It’s OK, but not as good as I thought it would be. I also want to watch Pasta too with Gong Hyo Jin, I’ve read some recaps on here and it sounds good too, I usually like watching shows with the same actors/actresses in it at the same time, so I’ll probably watch that one with Best Love.

Wedding is about two people who meet on a Mat-soon (one of those blind dates set up for meeting potential husbands and wives) and they get married early on in the series. But the male lead cannot forget his first love, who is now engaged to someone he works with. And it turns out he (the second male lead) had a bit of a romance in the past (6 years ago) with the female lead. So, these two couples are entangled, and it keeps showing throughout the series how the person they are not with is the one they are most compatible with. It came out in 2005 I believe. It’s OK, but its not that exciting, its not funny at all.

I agree with you abt Lie to Me. I really like it so far and identify with the bumbling YEH character, but it hasn’t yet engaged me emotionally. The writing has been a cold, paint-by-numbers kind, but fortunately, YEH and KJH who are giving it some life.

Anyway. Am I the only one that wanted to punch the screen while watching episode 18 of 49 Days? I mean, c’mon, I was maybe too tense – damn, that drama is good – but they need to rethink that whole “rules to get your tears” thing.
I literally shouted at my screen when Ji-hyun was singing for her parents and Yi-Kyung cried RIGHT NEXT TO HER and NOTHING happened!!! (–> “GO GET YOUR TEAR, IT’S RIGHT THEEEEERE! WHY IS NOTHING HAPPENIIIING?”. Ahem.) Hopefully I got satisfied later on… Heh.
Oh trust me, you’ll be sated.

Yup, yup I watched it, that’s the point. But it killed me so bad when Yi-kyung cried as Ji-hyun wah singing, because I seriously thought she was going to get her tear at this point.
(And that she might come back to loving Min-ho, bleh…)
But I know, the ending is AMAZING. I wonder what’s coming next. I heard people say that JH will partially lose her memory… Meaning Kang-ah will have to seduce her all over again

About Yi-Kyung’s tear : it’s also important what one actually feels during crying.
And Ji-Hyun only needs tears cried earnestly for her, and maybe Yi-Kyung cried because Ji-Hyun’s parents were sad? Maybe she wasn’t thinking about Ji-Hyun?Or the tears were out of guilt? Something like that…
I thought about that too, but… Not the parents, because she’s starring at JH’s body. I don’t see why she would be feeling guilty of exactly either – since she decided to help her. To me, it felt like she was really crying because of JH’s pain…
But then I had an epiphany: what if it was because of… THE MUSIC? Come on, maybe she’s hypersensible and emotive music makes her cry!… NOT.
The tears from Yi Kyung were most likely sympathetic for her parents who are able to hear Ji Hyun’s song.
(Spoiler) I have this incomplete feeling from Seo Woo’s tears for Ji Hyun, because her role throughout the drama was non-existent. If they had develop more on Seo Woo’s relationship with Ji Hyun, I would be more satisfied with the final tear. However, it would have been more twisted (and awesome) if the final tear came from In Jung, because it would possibly show that she had some sincere love for Ji Hyun and a turning point for the take down of Min Ho, but that’s just my wishful thinking. However, that would’ve taken 51 Days to happen for In Jung to get a clue.
(Now that I think about it, In Jung + sincere love (Ji Hyun) = HA!)
I probably feel the same about Seo-woo… In fact, I could have expected one tear to come from Min-ho, not In Jung – because of the “I’m in love with Ji-hyun in Yi-kyung body or what?” business. But then I guess he’s even more rotten than I expected. Bleh.
Therefore, same: Min-Ho + sincere love (Ji-hyun) = HEH!)
Yi-kyung is crying because of the situation and the scenario is quite sad, not because of Ji-hyun. the tears should be for ji-hyun alone as expression of their love to her.
agree! I think YK’s tears at the end counted, because to her, JH was really gone and cried for the loss of JH. Early, it was because the whole situation was so sad and because she was confronted to JH’s true state – a body hooked up to an oxygen tank. She was so used to seeing the cheerful, healthy-looking ghost. This was a bit of a shock.

OMG! How can this man, wearing all kinds of ahjussi plaids and god-awful light blue blazers get my heart going like he does?
I second this dumbfoundedness. I’m stuck waiting for more subs (although it looks like dramafever is going to have “new” stuff?) but I’ve spent the first 13 episodes drooling over SJ so hard! Ironically, this is the exact opposite of the problem I have with, say, Kim Bum where he’s too young. If I were in SJ’s staff I’d probably be one of the young editors he makes cry.

Episode 15 – It is the most amazing portrait of a man who is falling in love “against his will, against his reason, and (possibly) even against his character.” This episode – I have memorized it – has the best character revealing speech EVER. It’s on my refrigerator at home!

Thank God I have a two week break before my summer semester starts so I have been catching up in all the dramas. Can You Hear My Heart, 49 Days, Best Love, Baby Faced Beauty, Manny, Lie To Me and finishing up Comrades. Holy shat! that’s 7 dramas I’m watching right now! New record!
I haven’t even started on Romance Town yet. *sigh*
As for the new dramas excluding Romance Town, as I predicted, the one I’m enjoying the most is Greatest Love. CSW, GHJ and YKS are KILLING IT and so many puns and drama mockeries! Loving it!
As for Baby Faced Beauty, I’ve gotta say Jang Nara is pretty solid in this drama. The premise I think is interesting and they have a lot to build up on. While I think that Daniel Choi is doing a pretty good job being the adorkable employee, sometimes it gets too much. I’m actually rooting for Ryu Jin’s character in this one (way to be typical!). But as it stands, for some reason, I’m liking this way better than Lie To Me. Hmmm…maybe it’s because I’ve been watching Jang Nara dramas far longer than YEH dramas.
i’m watching all of them too, except for comrades, but instead i’m watching midas and royal family while waiting for the subs to come-out. Now, my interest is peaked by Twinkle, twinkle because of the open thread =). i wonder how i found time to work. i might get in trouble this May and June because of all these wonderful dramas.
Haha. Same here. I might check out Twinkle Twinkle too. I started Royal Family but I haven’t been checking it out as of late. However, I thought the episodes I watched were pretty good. I remember Kim Young Ae’s character to be one badass lady. I’m probably gonna finish that up sometime in the future.
But Comrades isn’t currently airing though. It’s a war drama that I started a while ago but hadn’t had enough time to finish.
But if anyone of you guys are huge war-movie fans then Comrades is the drama that you guys need to watch.

I’m really enjoying Twinkle Twinkle / Glitter / Sparkling / Whatever. I had been watching the makjang crack that is Daring Women, and just couldn’t take it anymore. (I hit that 50-episode point, and just burn out on the crazy. Up until that point, I hate myself, but I just keep watching.)
Kim Hyun Joo is delightful. I love her character, I love her.
I’m not sure if Lee Yoori just tends to plays characters I dislike, or if there’s something I don’t like about her; I’m guessing the later. Still, the rest of the cast is enjoyable; the tutor character in particular is breaking my heart.
Ah I loved daring woman. Isn’t that crazy? I was going crazy cussing at the computer and crying. But I’ve seen worse makjangs. Daring woman has good come-up-ance and I don’t think it goes as far as others do. Daytrime dramas give women a bad name.
It has that thing that so many of those dramas do – and yes, I watch a lot! Obviously I enjoyed some part of it.
The main character comes across as so long-suffering and holier-than-thou that I just can’t stand her. After 27 tries of being dicked over by your in-laws, shouldn’t you break off ties or something? If your mother-in-law has tried to kidnap your daughter more than once, shouldn’t you consider calling the police, or maybe telling your hot, rich, protective husband?
I don’t mind heroines that suffer, but I don’t admire pointless suffering.
you know, I never expected her to stick up for herself it was a nice surprise when she yells at the mother in law “omoni!” and then told mr. hot that she did want to get married. I know that the writers want us to root for the girl and to feel something, but they take it too far. I can understand the turn the other cheek mentality but jeeez those k-drama heroines must have 15 cheeks.
Her husband was another mongcholi! who is it that knows someone has stolen your life’s work and just talks nicely to them. I really did cuss a lot while watching that drama. I’m getting riled up thinking about it. saesangae!
I’m currently watching midas, crime squad, 49 days and I’ll start thorn birds in about 2 hours. I need to start working out but I can’t seem to do it and watch dramas. Anyone have any drama diets to suggest? I think vege soups is a good way to go. Any other suggestions?

I think everybody here is very familiar with Park Yoochun the actor, but not familiar with Micky Yoochun the composer, the singer, the rapper
I’m sure most of you know about the JYJ-SM lawsuit
Maybe, most of the drama lovers are unaware of it but dramas is the only way Yoochun can get on TV these days.
SM ent. is blocking him and his bandmates from public broadcast (music+variety) even though
JYJ is definitely the group with the most number of fans in Korea and they have my respect for going up against a corrupted industry.
Yoochun and his bandmates were the victims of what is known as a “slave” contract (not actual slaves but tied for 13 years without any bargaining power, creative freedom, or rights) to his former agency. Even though he and the rest of his bandmates were at one point earning tens of millions of dollars a year for his agencies there were not given even 1/10 of their fair dues and were definitely overworked.
Recently JYJ said in an interview that they went on their first real vacation in 10 years.
To this day Yoochun does not have the copyright even to his own self composed songs.
He cannot even promote Ripley in public broadcasting channels.
I wanted to mention this because there is a lot more to Park Yoochun than meets the eye. He is definitely not your typical idol turned actor.

I’ve only seen the first episode, but I liked it as well. Especially that scene in the car with the two of them just pouring snacks into their mouths. Based on the promo, I was expecting it to be more light and frothy. Not that it isn’t fun, but it’s also a bit sad and sweet and thoughtful. And I agree the leading man character is adorable!

I think the stylists are trying for the charming look that GHJ do so well and adopt her style for her character, Ae Jung.

When I talked about Han Kang, my mom’s interest went up a notch. I thought she was falling in love the man.
It turned out that his name is interesting to my mum.
Mum: Ricky, you do know that ‘hankang’ in our native tongue means ‘broken beyond repair’, right? It sounds like this Han Kang fellow is going to be ‘heartbroken beyond repair’.
Omo, she’s right.
‘Hankang’ does mean ‘broken beyond repair’ in my native tongue. It slipped my mind as it’s a language I barely speak coz my family is mix-blooded & multilingual.
Does this mean Kang-ahh will not be with Ji Hyun? An early revelation from my mother? Gah..

Mostly I feel sorry for how he describes himself in the opening paragraph. For someone to dislike himself that much sets the tone for the rest of the article.
While the % of Asian workers is an important statistic when evaluating fairness in the work-place, not all personality types will be leaders, and that is OK. Women now make up more than 50% of workers, but not 50% are CEOs, etc.
Do I understand that the challenge is changing perceptions of the American “ideal,” yes.
Do I think that cultural upbringing is in play here, of COURSE! But I also think that ANY heritage could benefit from a LEAP, or ABC of dating. Inability to get “dates” is NOT an AsA specialty. Lots of guys/girls suffer from social awkwardness. (ME!)

And then he paints most Asians in America with the same exact brush as if we’re all disadvantaged and, deep down inside, unhappy and unfulfilled. Maybe it is because I live in the city where there are a good number of Asians – I find Asians to be a more varied group of people than he does in this article. The whole thing reads like some essay in an Asian American anthology published in the early 1990s.
And btw, I know more asian guys with girlfriends than white guys without. Where are all these asian guys without dates? And are they cute?

Basically, what Wesley is saying that he hates being a “beta male”, and that he believes Asian American culture breeds this. He’s right. He also feeds into the stereotype of Korean American male being, well, “angry” about their masculinity being socially qualified (as opposed to the Chinese American stereotype, which is one of fatalistic apathy.)
Being a “hyphenate American” is great, but it leaves you with the sense that your identity hasn’t been fully integrated, and that an effort to actualize your happiness is a culturally exceptional effort.
However, if you watch Korean dramas, you’re bombarded with male images who . . .
A) Accomplished in a given field

Anywho, Spring is finally acting like it wants to be here, I have what feels like dozens of dramas to watch, and I am falling in love all over again with The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. Oh Jung Da Jung, so shallow but so effervescent and harmless. And Ha Min Jae with our beloved Lee Shin Young… AND BOO KI WOOGIE! I’m just sayin’. Manny and Return of Iljimae and Baby Faced Romance and all the rest of them are calling, but TWWSWTM is the only thing I have time for (b/c it’s downloaded).

I’m so used to being the youngest… I’m just getting to the age where I’m probably not that person. I also surprised myself be realize that I should actually sorta expect my little people to give me “noona”-esque respect (or more like “auntie” considering my southern background). So weird.

My family is from the Southern US, although I am personally a couple of generations removed from there. In the South, a well behaved younger person calls older relatives and close family friends Aunt/Uncle So-and-So, even if they’re actually your cousin or something. My mom’s the only girl of her siblings, but I still have lots of “aunts”! For non-relatives they get Miss/Mr. I’m sure this is true in other parts of the country as well, but not so much where I live.
I think I’ll wait a few years before I do the full-on noona thing w/my cousins. They’re so lil and cute and sweet! I totally had a moment the first time they called me “Aunt Tinpra”

Yes, I am subtly and (not so) secretly trying to get you to watch TWWSWTM. It is all part of my nefarious plot to…do something.
Although speaking of plots, more there’s some nefarious plan to keep us from our kdrama watching by kidnapping subbers! Or, y’know, maybe they’re just all busy. I think it could easily go either way.
Just a guess from some of the other comments I read on DB, a lot of subbers are students. Since this is May, I think students are busy wrapping up school in the States at least. I don’t know about other countries educational calendars.
I wish I knew another language, I think it would be fun to sub!

Guess what I started watching? I skipped through to the end of ep 1 and started w/ ep 2 (Just at the beginning)!!! TWWSWTM!!!!!!!!!
Ep 1 was boring backstory stuff that I don’t really care about since I saw it already. LOL! The girl in the hot asphalt thinking it was her bed!!!! I had forgotten about that part until I hopped on it.
Did you know that the lady who plays Kim Bum’s (Ha Min Jae) mom (Choi Sang Mi) in this show is playing a maid on Romance Town (Oh Hyun Joo)? Her name is Park Ji Young.
Now I really have to watch Romance Town! It’s on my list, along with 49 Days, Baby Faced Beauty, and a slew of older stuff. Oh, and whatever the Hong sisters are doing. Yay! I’ve been a force of good (sorta)

speaking of 49 days and han kang(Jo Hyun Jae)-has anybody watched his previous drama “LOVE LETTER”? What are your thoughts on it? personally,its of of those dramas i regret watching because it was just so……..weird?!?!

And the whole idea of the male lead (han kang/Jo Hyun Jae) not giving up his priesthood AND continuing wid his love was something i could not understand no matter how i looked at it..i mean you become a priest/monk only after you have given up all worldly things…so these things are not allowed right?

Holy crap White Christmas is SOOOOO freakin awesome. I wasn’t sold on the poster for it but after watching it, I have to say that it’s on par with Story of a Man.

It’s mystery, suspense and psychological thriller all rolled into an 8 episode delight. I’m about halfway through and it’s seriously keeping me on my toes. I have no clue how this will end.
Easily the best and most original drama of 2011.
for those who watch taiwanese dramas:
Hearing about Rainie Yang’s new drama, Drunken to Love You (okay, i’m like a month behind) and how Wang Chuan Yi/King One Wang is Rainie’s “other guy” for like the third time!
First, Devil Beside You. Then Why Why Love. Now this. I don’t think he’s the strongest actor, but WILL HE EVER GET RAINIE?!!! I really want to watch Drunken to Love You, but I think I’ll go crazy watching his character and Rainie’s character be together and not get together AGAIN.
This obsession was slightly alleviated by watching the movie 50% Love, starring King One and a Singaporean actress, Felicia Chin. In retrospect, the movie was pretty mediocre, but the atmosphere depicted and the music used was enough to keep me invested. So awesome to see him get the girl and omg, I want to be kissed by him!
Oh, you can sure go ahead and watch Drunken to Love You. As a fellow DBY and WWL viewer, and Kingone liker, I can tell you:
1) Drunken to Love You is *^$*ù**ù good, and DAMN worth the watch!
2) Kingone plays a total jerk. Like, really. The kind of stupid guy who-deliberately-rubs-salt-in-his-girlfriend’s-wounds-so-that-she-will-come-to-hate-him-because-he’s-so-in-love-with-her-but-cannot-stay-with-her. Noble Idiocy x 1000000000. Urgh.
3) On the other hand, the main lead has hell of a chemistry with Rainie, and his character is AMAZING. No Noble Idiocy, no Darcy, no Dorky. Just a plain, human, warm but occasionnaly mean guy. It’s impossible not to sympathize with him and not to ship for the main OTP!
This drama is so cute. I’m ready recaps and totally want to watch it. In terms of the second male leads, to me, it feels like in TW dramas, there a type-casting that goes one. They like to use the same actor and actress as a couple for several different dramas and have the same actor or actress as the second lead again. I noticed it growing up watching TW dramas. Don’t know what it is.
That’s a good observation – that is exactly what happened in WWL! Poor KingOne, typecasted as a second lead. Hong Xiao Ling (Calling Love, My Lucky Star) is often the second lead too. I don’t think she has ever been the main lead – though she has certainly been a part of an ensemble cast.
I will likely give in and watched Drunken to love you. but will still cry for KingOne even if he’s a jerk. One day…one day..please tw drama gods, have Rainie and KingOne be a couple in a drama. I can’t be the only one wanting this!

I am not into needlessly torturing myself with sadness, so I didn’t watch it. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for the actors if it left you exhausted just watching it!
eh, jomo ssi didn’t you recommend I watch thornbirds! I was just checking my emails and I noticed this message ( I’ve just paused thorn birds episode 1 as well.) I saw a really good episode on tv this week ( when young jo asks eun jung on a date, after she says she wants to do gangu’s movie) and I thought, I can cry a little to see them happy like this.

I liked it, but it was long. The last couple episodes did me in.
Mostly because of what happened to one particular character, and because of the lack of heat with the OTP.
Just kinda kept waiting for the passion to finally kick in, but to no avail!
oh no lack of heat is a problem too. Jomo what are you doing to me!!! does it have a good ending or does it go the question mark route?
Satisfying ending, yes.
But I have to admit, I fforwarded through a story line because at that point, I JUST DIDN’T CARE about ONE PARTICULAR PERSON.
