Shin Mina goes old Hollywood for Bazaar
by | May 20, 2011 | 38 Comments

I have such a fondness for Hollywood classics, and adore once-gumiho Shin Mina (My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho). Naturally, when I get two things I love wrapped in one, that makes me one happy camper. ‘S like math. This photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar shows Shin taking on the guise of various scenes from familiar Hollywood classics, like Bonnie and Clyde (1967), above, where she looks absolutely stunning; and looking comical below as Charlie Chaplin in the famous shoe-eating scene from The Gold Rush (1925).

The photo spread is part and parcel of a Short Film Festival, featuring five of Chungmuro’s top dogs: directors Park Chan-wook (Oldboy), Lee Hyun-seung (Blue Salt), Kim Ji-woon (I Saw the Devil), Jang Jun-hwan (Camellia), Park Jin-pyo (My Love By My Side) in a special project, where they recreate their favorite mise-en-scene (think: everything in the frame of one stellar shot from a movie) in an anthology of short films, starring Shin Mina.

Pretty cool, and not a bad way to promote a short film fest, with a big star and slew of top directors to play around with scenes we’re all familiar with, in our collective pop culture memories. Can’t wait to see the rest of the shots in the spread, and also the anthology that results.

The 10th Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival will take place at the Yongsan CGV, from June 24-30. It looks worth checking out, if you’re yunno, hopping around Korea for the summer.

    bad photoshop, first picture.

But all is forgiven because she looks so gorgeous!
lol, reminds me of “Dokko Jin’s” comments from yesterday’s episode -__-

I was just thinking that…looks a bit like she’s floating with a celestial bubble around her. But still, nice. Better than all of the bizarre ones normally.

I didn’t get the references. Is that an age thing or purely geographical?

    • 2.1 notoriousnoona

      Age.

    • 2.2 scorpia469

it’s not really an age thing. if you know it, you now it.
I’m 19 and i still know what she’s talking about. If you know hollywood classics it should make perfect sense

        This is fact.

      • 2.2.2 Bluefyre

        Methinks it’s a cultural thing ^^
Or if you had an environment conducive to such references.

I’d say both, although obviously there will be people who know them despite being young or not American/European.

      • 2.3.1 fortuneteller

        Pop culture.

Bonnie and Clyde are often referred in films (there is also a film called Bonnie), songs (Jay Z and Beyonce had a song called Bonnie and Clyde), etc.

Also Charlie Chaplin is remembered for his silent black and white films. I have a few at home.

          opps….
in the message above I forgot to write that the 1967 film was called Bonnie and Clyde (you can’t just have Bonnie without Clyde) :)

Haven’t these photos already been the subject of a post a few days ago?

I remember seeing this post before the two last episodes of 49 days aired…

Nate news posted the articles and pictures on May 19.

Wow Shin Mina can pull of Charlie Chaplin quite well, who’d have thought she could look like a boy.
And love the first pic, bonnie and clyde are one of my favourites.

  27. 27 Jessica

Whew… it was just a photo shoot theme.

For a second I thought you were going to say she’s going to Hollywood to be cast as a Stereotypical Asian Girl.

  28. 28 Bever

I love Harper’s Bazar! It usually has a great spread toward the back of the magazine.
For last year’s March issue Anna Selezneva paired up with actor Wes Bentley for Peter Lindbergh’s re-imagining of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde.

The editorial is pretty spectacular. It’s very vintage chic!
