P.s. If after listening to this song you find yourself automatically replying “elastic” every time you hear the word fantastic, don’t freak out. It’s normal. :P

    • 4.2 Viola

Did you even sleep at all, Ricky?!

  6. ajewell

haha, I remember S.E.S – “Dreams Come True”. It always screamed 90s to me!! ;)

    • 6.1 Rina

That was one of the 1st Kpop songs I heard and everytime I listedned to it, it got stuck in my head for the rest of the day, I think stumbled on a Japanese single once.
I heard H.O.T. and Shinhwa through a friend from school.

  7. melonlord

Thanks for the recommendation! Love all the songs on the list. Ever since I first heard eusha eusha, I could never get it out of my head haha! Oh, I swear shinhwa’s music never gets old, can’t wait for 2012 :D

  8. Thatgirl

    ShinHwa! “Eusha Eusha”
H.O.T! (Still My Favorite Kpop group of all times.)
S.E.S! “Funny how dreams come true….” Da da da da da da da……

Jinusean, How Deep Is Your Love, is the first EVER kpop song I ever heard!

    • 8.1 Thatgirl

I’m surprise you don’t have any Fin.K.L or Baby VOX songs on the list.

  9. tomato

Recoqnized 9 of the songs on the list. Does not seem too long ago when the songs were popular :/ Time flies.

Talking about S.E.S their Oh My Love was, well, is great.

I don’t see Clon’s bing bing bing there… how could you!!

  10. 10 Thatgirl

Its Funny, there are some kids who are fans of Eugene and Yoon Eun Hye but have never heard of SES or Baby VOX. Then they see an SES and Baby VOX MV for the first time and say “OMG! IS THAT EUGENE?!” or “OMG! IS THAT YOON EUN HYE”?!?!?!??!!

Lol. Yes, yes it is. Shocking, isn’t it? Lol.

  11. 11 Angel

I don’t know these songs so I am discovering them now.
I have seen mv “timeless” in youtube and since then I am hooked with the song and my sisters like it to.
do you know other SAD mvs ?

  12. 12 P

    WOW JB is old School!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELjgwRs2kyc

    • 12.1 Bluefyre

Same!! But I recognize songs here too! Yay :)

    • 12.2 millaredwitch

Yeah…we’re on the same boat… I’m totally from the Dong Bang boys generation but i am familiar with some of the songs..maybe because I’m an avid variety shows fan so some of these songs have been used once or twice in any show that i watch…ever since the X-Man rules the V-shows~~~ kekekeke ^^

  13. 13 hilly

kyahhH~ memories! i love them all esp solid, kim gun mo, seotaiji and cool.. over a decade ago these songs were super cool.. we are such dinosaurs^^

    • 13.1 girlfriday

      Yeah, no kidding.

      Dear jb,

Thanks a LOT for the involuntary flashbacks to half-up overalls and really really bad hair. I already need a drink.

*reaches for cocktail while dancing to 3!4!*

    • 13.2 misolee

seriously! my highschool days are flashing before my eyes listening to these songs! especially…twotwo! I loved that song and the girl’s little mini bookbag

    • 13.3 a-a-a

oh lord! tell me about it.. these songs still feel so fresh in new though lol! Am I really that old! Lies I refuse!! :D

    • 13.4 Einna

OMG! I am sooooo there with you! I’ve been listening to Eusha, Eusha and/or watching the MV on repeat these days all while giggling to myself. I’m even entertaining the thought of leaving my husband, migrating to Korea and stalking all Shinhwa members. God help me!

  14. 14 Linda

I recognised NO songs from that playlist.. which makes me feel young, which i am (18) and it makes me wonder how old javabeans is AHAHAHAS nonetheless i shall listen to ALL the songs and compare the music you grew up with to idol music i listen to

    • 14.1 tomato

My guess will be early to mid thirty. If javabeans was in her teenage/low 20′s years like I was when the songs were popular :0

      • 14.1.1 blue1004

I’m almost positive JB is 29 or 30 based on the years that she’s watched the dramas.

        • 14.1.1.1 tomato

Probably, lower than it will be like… she’s still a lil’ sister during the time.

Who knows… Linda can ask :0

          • 14.1.1.1.1 Nim

I don’t think JB would be very comfortable with you’ll discussing her age :P

Plus Im 18 and i happen to know most of these songs! Some of it remind me SClub7 (Has anyone heard of them?)

            HOT is adorable!

          • 14.1.1.1.2 Linda

            my letter to javabeans:

            dear javabeans,
I know you’re busy being the drama goddess herself, watching and recapping dramas for us, but i am just curious if all that space traveling through the 4th dimension has made you aged ?

            Love, Linda

p.s I think I am obsessed with your site, I click refresh way too many times throughout my day for it to be a normal human routine.

          • 14.1.1.1.3 Rina

            @Nim – I totally remember SClub7!

    • 14.2 10VE

Join us at the allkpop forums!! You’d be an unni there. I’m 18 too, but I happen to like these rookie kpop groups where the members are all really young. For example, there’s this new group from Starship Entertainment called Boyfriend, and my favorite member is only 15….cue epic tragic music… and the piercing echo of a girl screaming “Noooo!!! I have become a pedonoona!!!!” Plus, I have to deal with young upstarts who call him oppa!!! grrrr….

      • 14.2.1 tomato

        @Nim

Yeah, but back then the internet (or PC in general) and portable media weren’t like the way they are now.

Back then you really listen to those stuff in “real life”. The overall experience and the degree of involvement and attachment to what you listen/see are different… welp kinda hard to explain ;0

As for the age stuff, who knows. She may be giggling and resisting the urge to come clean, might as well hahaha. Wasn’t me who started it anyway *points@Linda*

    • 14.3 Zain

I did not know any of the songs on the list since I am new to Kpop and am a late 94′er. But I got curious about the eusha eusha song. I had already heard of them because of Eric so I looked at it. Omg the mv was hilarious and dang it the song is so catchy. Ident get the eusha eusha out of my head. I am off to see H.O.T candy though I think I already know it because Top and Gd were dancing to it on the big bang documentary.

      • 14.3.1 Zain

Nope I was wrong they were dancing to candy shop. But man I love H.O.T candy. So cute. I recently saw the Time is [L]over by Jang Woo Hyuk who I know was a member of hot and I was very impressed.

    • 14.4 Linda

AHAHAHAHAS i don’t think music can depict someone’s age because i happen to like old school music as well… but regardless of her age i think i’ll grow up to be pretty much the same as javabeans- still obsessed and addicted to kdrama! LOL!

  15. 15 Flo

Can’t under stand a word they are saying, but “How deep is your love” is HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

  16. 16 mnstpdu08

I can’t believe I forgot about “how deep is your love.”

You’re missing two of my favorite Baby Vox and Fly to the Sky.

I don’t think today’s groups can compare to the groups in the 90s; I mean they created the trend. I miss the 90s.

  17. 17 orbiter

    More! More! :D

  18. 18 jemjem

omg i have nvr commented before, but because of the eusha song i spent nearly 2 hours finding the one dat sounds similar in english lol

Manfred Mann – Doo Wah Diddy

    haha thanks

  19. 19 KDrama Fan

I don’t know any of these songs does that mean I am young? LOL.

  20. 20 Rubysing

In an older episode of 1 Night 2 Days, there was a singing competition in the bus and Jiwon sang CANDY, action and all. That was how I got to find out about H.O.T. and got hooked: it’s my all-time favourite K-song. The original on YouTube is really good, although not sharp. :)

    • 20.1 Ani

Hahaha. H.O.T are the cutest things ever. I’m glad I finally found a clean and clear version of Candy here because I know what you mean about the MVs on youtube.

    • 20.2 drama4mama

I just discovered H.O.T about a month ago when I was looking at videos on youtube. Oh how I wish we had internet the way we do now, It would have been so cool to be in my late teens/early 20′s and gush over how cute and awesome their music is, on another note I saw Jang Woo Hyuk’s comeback performance, it was mind blowing. It’s great to see and gush about Idols my age and be able to say “Oppa” even if he is only one day older than me.

  21. 21 alfalfa

The playlist needs some g.o.d lovin’! To be specific, the song ‘Lie.’
And any other 90s staple songs :D

  22. 22 stinkerbelle

wow!! love some of these songs. I remembered these songs and going to morning glory to make those stars. :) Thanks!

  23. 23 graced923

    LOVE THIS POST!!! LOVE IT!!!!

  24. 24 Cynthia

That was one MEAN list, JB. But, funny, too.

Mean, in that I was sitting here listening to the Shinwa cut, had a dancing backflash, attempted a shoulder ‘hustle-type” move, and triggered my bursitis. eewwOuch! Apparently, I’m not 18 anymore – my boogie days are past. Way past.

  25. 25 come2noona

Well, they are all new to me!

And it’s all because I am really really young (yeah that’s it) and NOT because I am new to k-pop. ;)

Thanks so much for your hard work and for broadening my music library!

  26. 26 Gbo

I have these exact songs (and a few others) on a playlist on my phone right now! just add some finkl, park jin young, turbo, the blue! love!

  27. 27 Nat

i love this postttt!!! thank you <3

  28. 28 Unnijumma

    Old fogey edition…

Er, I guess this makes me ancient. I grew up listening to Lee Sun Hee. Oy! :)

  29. 29 Banu

whahah that Shinhwa song beginning part I know it XD>> very catchy song ^__^

Love them all but I loved song by Uhm Jung-Hwa so much.
Thank you for sharing these great oldies with us ^__*

  30. 30 maldita

H.O.T’s “Candy” is forever my jam. I’m more of the DBSK/Super Junior era, but I heard the song years ago when then-newbie Super Junior boys kept singing and dancing to them everywhere. Checked the song out and boom! I was hooked. That song ALWAYS cheers me up without fail. Same goes for “Eusha! Eusha!”

This list is lacking some FinKL and g.o.d!

    • 30.1 Minnetter

same same! I’m a Suju/DBSK (the order is not the debut order it’s the how much I love them order^^) era girl but the Suju boys were crazy about Candy for the longest time^^ and so I looked it up also and got hooked myself ;) and well you can’t look up H.O.T. and not find out about Shinhwa so Eusha Eusha! was also familiar :) plus I loved Andy in WGM so I looked up even more Shinhwa songs^^

  31. 31 angelyurihuynh

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR29LTNht6Q&feature=related

90s music forever has a place in my heart!

  33. 33 yellow2006m

I heard S.E.S. Dreams Come True for the first time about 2 months ago and I like it i’m an ’88 baby but now starting to feel old because if these ’90s people im surrounded by

  34. 34 deeps

    heh…
the only names i recognised were seo taiji (and that was cos of all the recent news)

and roo ra cos of a YAB parody of one of their songs that was soo hilarious, stomach-holding, rolling on the floor laughing funny that i looked up the original song mv on YT and actually liked both the vid and the song :-)

    • 34.1 Molly

Have any further reports come out about what exactly the marriage/divorce was caused by?

  35. 35 HappyDay

WOW THROWBACK to the good ol’ days!!!
I’m an early 92-er but I still know all these songs.. probably cuz of my older cousins.

    Thanks so much for this!!!!!!!!!

  36. 36 youngshi

Nice…I love old school!! I started to do the Candy dance in my apartment and got some weird looks from my neighbor across the alley..

    • 36.1 tinpra

I say what’s the fun of across-the-alley neighbors if you can’t give them something to stare at every now and then ;)

      • 36.1.1 youngshi

        Hahaha too true!!

  37. 37 Biru

How come no god songs. If Shinhwa and SES were up there too. I know most of the songs although I’m not fan from that era. I’ve been into K-Pop since ’04.

  38. 38 jezz

So great! I miss the old days when I start listening to Kpop, they are all very popular and must listen….this really can tell how old I am…hahahaa

  42. 42 Joanne

Haha, I’ve got CDs for half of the artists here…and over the years of being into k-music/k-drama/k-movies, I recognize some the other artists, too.

There are a couple I didn’t know, so thanks for the playlist JB! ^_^

  43. 43 cranky

    • 43.1 tomato

      Feels a bit betrayed here

  44. 44 DMKO

Thanks JB for the great songs! I am old but new to all things Kpop so it is fun and insightful to hear these older new songs. As usual, JB you are my source for everything Kpop. Love to hear more! FIN.K.L…really? These names are too funny! More I say..I want more. Keep up the great work!

  45. 45 jinkzz

darm eusha eusha is stuck in my head now…hahaha… can even picture the dance that goes with it

  46. 46 Snikki

Some of these songs are very familiar, then I remembered a friend gave me a couple mixed cd’s back when I visited Korea in 2000. Thanks, JB, for these. Now I wanna know where I put those cd’s.

  47. 47 sb

I remember ALL of these songs, yay! Only need to add g.o.d., fin.k.l and Sechs Kies (woot woot! – hardcore fangirl back in the day) to make it complete for me. :D

  48. 48 reydio

Wow, these really bring back memories…S.E.S., F.i.N.KL, Baby Vox…….anyway, much Mahalo!!
