Lie To Me: Episode 10 Open Thread

Weecap!

Both sides have acknowledged their feelings for each other, so to keep the drama going for another three weeks, Episode 10 introduces a grab bag of manufactured conflicts. Warning: Don’t think too hard, or head hurty.

So Ah-jung acts demure on her mat-seon, Sam-soon style, and Ki-joon drags her outta there, Sam-shik style. She admits she likes him, and asks him not to like that other chick. His stance: I don’t like her, but I don’t want to hurt her, hence I will hurt you, the one I do like…. He asks if she could like him if he were so wishy-washy as to renege on an old commitment. No, I’m sure she loves ya because you’re wishy-washy about your feelings. Ugh, this is the Full House conflict that drove me batty. It’s like the opposite of having your cake and eating it too. It’s…purposely buying your cake, setting it out to look at all day, and then giving it away and watching someone else eat it.

Manager Park rips Ki-joon a new one for his stupidity (yay!) and tells him to grow a pair, and that trying to let Yoon-ju down easy will hurt her more. Yoon-ju does her share of crazy by announcing her wedding, without telling her groom. She lets that drop in Ah-jung’s lap triumphantly.

Ki-joon tries to explain that it’s a misunderstanding, and tags along on Ah-jung’s work dinner, buying out the restaurant and toasting her co-workers from the next table over. She gets drunk and drops her phone, which he picks up and returns, but not before recording a video clip where he calls her “Ah-jung-ah,” which she listens to on repeat.

So-ran’s Catty Crew buys friendship rings, and So-ran buys one for Ah-jung. Is reconciliation in the picture? But no, Jae-bum drops by and gets all handsy with Ah-jung (hands of concern!), and So-ran sees and misunderstands.

Ki-joon offers to wait until Yoon-ju has gotten over him before starting with Ah-jung. Sure, why not? We need the conflict, even if it’s nonsensical. Yoon-ju apologizes about lying about their wedding, but says she may never get over him — will Ah-jung wait for him forever? You two geniuses are ignoring the more pertinent question: Does Ah-jung know she’s waiting? Ki-joon instead asks for “some time,” because he just can’t cut the cord. JUST BREAK UP, YOU LILY-LIVERED WUSSYPANTS.

Sang-hee sulks, drinks, and throws a hissyfit over falling for another girl his brother likes. His tortured broodfest is horribly uncomfortable to watch. Sorry, honey, you’re super cute but you’re not nearly a good enough actor to pull this off, cringe.

Ah-jung plans some big tourism conference — at a World Hotel resort, natch — and who should show up but Chairman Chen? Oh god, this old chestnut? AGAIN?

She worries that she might be fired — another colleague was let go because of the messy handling of his personal relationship, and civil servants are apparently supposed to be free of any and all scandal, not that this makes any sense, but hey, we need more false conflict! So Ki-joon promises to divert Chen and scrambles to intercept him, only Ah-jung (of course!) runs into him first. Chen is like, Hello there Mrs. Wife! And her minister boss is like, Uh, Wife? They wait expectantly and ask if she’s married or not.

Ah-jung is torn — tell the truth and preserve her job? Or say she’s married and save Ki-joon’s investment? The power of love compels her to lie and say she’s married, only that’s when Ki-joon appears and announces, “No. I’m not married.”

Wha—? Are you a Noble Idiot, or just an idiot? It’s hard to say.

Wooo yay for the weecap :p

I know that JB and GF are not really into Lie to Me, but I'm completely hooked :D Ahh the power of Yoon Eun Hye and Kang Ji Hwan <333

Did anyone else cringe at Jae Bum's horrible horrible timing. That dude just mess up everything everywhere he goes, but I still find him kind of hilarious. He pops up at the worst moments lol.

Yoon Eun Hye looks SO much younger (not that she looked old before) with her new haircut as in she's in her late teens/early twenties ! She looks super cute. I totally dig Sang Hee's hair too! Much better than his floppy hair in episode 1-8 ;)

I'm looking forward to episode 11! Lie To Me <333

I'm flabbergasted that LTM has been holding its own in the ratings, and actually is increasing it a bit.

I was only able to struggle through to the end of Ep. 6; only with abundant fast-forwarding was even that do-able.

In skimming the cute weecaps, the storyline doesn't seem to be going anywhere interesting, so I'm glad I don't have second thoughts about dropping. Plenty of dramas to watch on my plate as it is. :)

Props to everyone who is still watching and enjoying LTM for the OTP!

Yes, we are indeed watching in full force.

If you go to mysoju, it is the NUMBER 1 drama!

If you go to the blogs, it is the drama most talked about.

So, again, yes, I shall continue watching LTM (and Romance Town), up until the end.

As for Mrs R - I'll leave that one to the others.

Hey, just wanted to put in my two cents.

I can't watch the dramas being discussed here on DB as they air because (1) I don't live in Korea; and (2) I don't have any feasible way to watch them at present unless it entails spending more time and money than I can spare.

So I end up reading recaps and choosing what dramas I would like to watch later. There are such things as bootleg DVDs available, of course, which is why I have to wait till the drama's finished and subbed, because I want to get the complete set of episodes. Also, one DVD costs the same as only two hours of internet time, compared to me watching the drama episode by episode on a wonky internet connection and ending up wasting two to three hours' worth of time and money on one episode, most of it just waiting and trying to get the video to load properly, while praying that the 800MB data cap won't slam down and cut off my connection. Otherwise, I would need to pray that the local TV network would air the drama-- dubbed in our language, which takes a lot of the cultural nuances out of it, since the dialogue ends up being skewed towards our own local context and even the names of the characters are changed. This is why I rely so much on DB's recaps and commentaries: they help me to decide what dramas would be worth watching and keeping. So far I've discovered quite a lot of dramas to enjoy.

As for LTM, I'm just trying to reserve judgment on it now since I haven't really seen it, and a lot of dramas do end up being hugely entertaining even though they don't really make much sense otherwise. That doesn't mean though that I can't enjoy reading what DB says about it; I like the way the recappers write and discuss the dramas and their points of view are always refreshing. So even when my only comment is "Thanks for the recap! :)" it means so much more than that.

I live in the Philippines :D I can only afford a cheap broadband connection which basically lets me read stuff and blog, and the "fair use" data cap severely limits video access because the telcos justify this by saying it is otherwise being used for piracy [although idk why they don't realize that the pirates could just get the fastest connection and use that]. What hurts is that they advertised the connection as capable of being "unlimited" if you paid a certain amount per day; turns out it was unlimited as long as you didn't download more than 800MB. I'm bummed because I was able to watch Shining Inheritance and Personal Taste before that cap was implemented and now I can't watch anything.

One hour of internet time costs about $0.46; one DVD goes for around $0.92 in bulk, $1.15 retail.

@. . .

What? $1.20? (Around P60?) I usually get it for around P40 [test-played of course], and if I buy like five, I can sweet-talk the stall owner into giving me another for free. XD Although that's supposed to end soon because Mayor's cracking down on the stalls. Sigh.

Only in Manila....;)

In Jakarta (that's in Indonesia :)) a bootleg dvd costs around 5 cent (that's in US$), well not more than a dollar, but the subtitle is awful. I hate it. Five giga internet access costs around US$12, and I'll be dancing around in my room if I get a 100 kb/s connection, usually a 40-60 kb/s makes me a happy camper *gasp..ikr* so after I read softy's transcap, I only download a small file from tudou around 150MB or something, and voila I can keep up with you guys :)

Only for a drama such as Best Love, I'm willing to download a 700MB file. I'm so happy it's Wednesday. Yay!

In Manila, the regular one-disc DVD costs around $1.20 but the subtitles are also awful during the second half. After a drama ends, the better ones costs around $3-$3.50 (3-4 discs). Subtitles are the ones you can download online (hardsubs), but the video quality's not that good. After a few months, there's a site I go to that has better quality DVDs (subtitles and video quality) and it costs $10-$12 (4-6 discs + free OST). They also ship to international fans. The owner of the site is Korean. =)

0

Ehehe you got it right XD How did you know?

0

Required fields are marked *

$1.20 = PHP50.00 and that's in Quiapo. I don't bargain with the asking price. =) I usually just go to goksdvd.com to buy the better quality dvds. The dvds get delivered to my door so I don't even have to travel to Quiapo.

0

LOL yeah... but then I am near Quiapo so it's easier for me that way XD Also it's fun to bargain, especially when I'm on a budget; sometimes I can get five to six for P200 depending on the vendor. I'll have to find other sukis though, since Mayor is having the stalls shut down in Manila itself. Maybe Greenhills or Cubao.

Here, you have a lot people liking and disliking the drama, and nobody eating each other throats about it, in fact we RESPECT it. I was actually impressed because I was thinking "man, fans here more peaceful than allkpop threads".. that is until now.
Comment like yours creates all the bashing, and troll-like comments. I congratulate you for creating UNNECESSARY comment war, well done you. /ends sarcasm

Thanks for the weecaps..Gee, No.10 and still no action.
I feel that Lie to Me is the perfect title for this mishmash storyline.I feel like I was lied to regarding this drama was going to be fun and romantic. It is just a rehash of getting lost in the woods, sprain ankle bit, and drunken soju scenes that I seen in previous Kdramas. Can't the writers come up with something more original?
Same for Yoon Ju faking the "I'm getting married " bit without telling the groom.Come on... Ki Joon is suppose to be this smart hotel executive, but he acts like total DUMBWAD letting his old flame push all the wrong buttons and jerking him around. Also, Ah Jung just cries and cries. I'm getting sick of her too.The only person who acts like she has any common sense is Manager Park who tells it like it is.
The stupid, asinine, wimpy characters in this drama are driving me nuts. I'm still hoping that the writers will come up with something moe original in the last 6 episodes.
I just love YEH & KJH which is why I'm watching this. The initial plot started out cute, but it getting harder to watch them act so silly when the storyline doesn't make sense. So contrived angst.

I think if they really hated it, they wouldn't be watching it and wee-capping it. They would drop the series like a hot potato. They can definitely enjoy a drama where they've written mocking things about - just see the Witch Amusement recaps from a few years back. (quality rated a 3, enjoyment value was a 6)

I think they love it in the "we enjoy the silliness and making fun of the silliness". I think in the ep 8 open thread, they did say they were enjoying it more now that they don't have to recap-recap it. This really is a drama to just sit back and watch and not really analyze.

Ditto (and props for the clear-headed response).

JB and GF also point out flaws in the shows they actually like (see City Hunter and Miss Ripley recaps) so I don't think LTM is an isolated incident.

For the record, I enjoy watching LTM but I also appreciate the weecaps and comments in this OT. It's fun to read (and people are entitled to their opinion. free speech's a bitch LOL) and it doesn't really affect the way I watch the show or like it. It's a refreshing perspective to hear what other people have to say, is all.

Right, if most viewer can think, have their own opinion and make fair comment as you, it won't be so irritating. There are many just jump into it based on the caps and then make negative comment. My problem is DB's mocking and 'trying to make fun' by criticizing everything from the show drive this type of viewers and the result is negativity all over the place.

Same as you, I watch it and enjoy it. Don't really care about plot or story, it is a drama for watch not analyze. Everyone know the story/plot is not good even the most devoted fans know it. So why still analyze it and add mocking comment on it?

yeah, and why can't JB and GF have strong opinions on dramas they watch? we are free to say what we want, why does everyone have to jump down their throats? they're drama fans too!

why get offended? I mean, even though MSOAN was a disaster (especially in the last 4 episodes or so), I really loved it (until the last 4 episodes...still like ? about why she had to keep MK in the dark about deciding not to go through with the wedding *bitter*). JB and GF definitely had criticisms for it in the recaps, but you just accept that other people have valid opinions too, and as season pros of the dramaworld, they're thoughts tend to carry some valuable truths.

idk why i'm writing all these replies to these things...im in an indignant mood.

I had hopes for this episode since episode 9 was pretty good...but ep 10 is a step back from ep 9. And Sang Hee just really pisses me off - moreso than Yoon-ju. The only character I root for now is Ah-jung. Her scenes are the only ones where I enjoy and can feel something. (sorry KJH, but I'm not really feeling you in this drama even though you were pretty heroic sometimes). YEH truly has some sort of powerful charisma! I remember watching her in Goong- almost disliking her at first and then increasingly rooting for her and my heart breaking for her as the series went and dragged on. The drama is very lucky to have her for its heroine.

Anyways, episode 11 better make up for ep 10!!

Whether you think the drama is going down or your lukewarm to it there ppl watching and tuning in to see what will happen next. I hope the story picks up but it's a definite typical version of a romcom it gets bad in the middle and then it picks up. So I hope ev'ry tunes in next week to watch so that they can rant and rave again it was so much fun reading ev'ry comments. I love YEH and KJW they have great chemistry and there the reason I'm watching and will continue to watch so I hope ev'ry joins me next week. Keep watching drama fans :)

Javabeans, a question: I love the word weecap, sounds fun, but I have no idea what it means Hahaha. I kinda know what it means but literally no hahaha. Where the wee comes from and why?
I've been wondering why the ones that love this show only came here to complaining about the ones that doesn't (not all of them, of course). Instead of writting about how much they love Ki-joon saying Ah-jung-ah or something (I personally like the scene in the restaurant) they came her to tell us that we are wrong for not liking what the masses like. I'm not saying they are wrong either, they have their reasons to love this, but why don't write about the good points they see in this drama and make this Open Thread more varied?
They are not obligated, of course. But I would preffer to read that instead of a comment that tells me that I dont watch the show and my comment is useless, so my comment has no validation. Because I watch it and I'm not loving it, so sue me.
Plus, have you ever read the slogan of the blog? Deconstructing kdramas? Go to the top of the page and click on "about". In there, javabeans explains why she started this site and the main reason: to analyse. Thats the point of all this. There have been times when they relax and enjoy but at the end they analyse (Boys before flowers comes to my mind).
Heheh who Im I kidding, its ALWAYS the same with very popular dramas. hahaha. Ahh, i enjoy this Open Thread.

Thank you for the weecap! It was so funny!

Allow me to explain!
It's a play on the words "wee" meaning little and "recap." It's so adorable... a mini recap, but it sounds just like recap: A weecap. (o;

Wee as tiny or small! It fits to the idea of a small, compressed recap! :)

Wee is used primarily by the Scottish which is maybe why you haven't heard it used much

LOL!!! I got lost in the wrong Weecap!!!

LOL!!! LOL!!! LOL!!!

I started typing some thoughts about Ep 10 of LTM and hit the wrong button and lost all my typing. Then I accidently go to Ep 9 of LTM and start typing away. Then I realize, Why are the dates and times so funny? Did I miss something? Oh, boy did I ever!!!

So, trying again.

I found some really cute moments in Ep 10. Sang Hee and the bear. He was just too adorable!!! The bear, that is. :-) Just kidding!

MJP Hubby was totally impressed with the hand holding instead of the usual wrist grab. Although he thinks that the character Yoon Joo reminds him of the movie, Fatal Attraction's character, Alex Forrest.

Do Kdramas such as this really go down THAT road?

Yoon Joo, stop the madness, don't be like Alex Forrest!!! It's been 3 years already. Ki Joon broke it off then. Accept it and move on. Stop trying to cause trouble.

Okay, done with that rant!

It wouldn't be a Kdrama if there wasn't an Evil Female Second Lead. But that doesn't mean I have to LIKE her!

I think the conflict between Ah Jung and Ki Joon is good, if not sort of filler. He is starting to get sweeter and more relaxed by her rejection of him. He knows that she likes him and he likes her, so he gets to relax a little bit and know that she isn't going anywhere. Well, except maybe on another blind date. :-)

I think for me it was sort of coming out of left field (I missed the vibe) the revelation that Sang Hee likes Ah Jung in more that a friend way. They were clicking a bit in the beginning episodes, but she has been totally into Ki Joon.

Oh My! MJP Hubby is watching LTM?!!!??? Trust the men to remember Fatal Attraction when they see a Yoon Joo-like character, LOL!

The bear is cuter than Sang Hee? Hahahaha! MJP, you are so precious! ;-)

i wish that the writer would wake up and listen to all of our rantings here...come on, i'm sorry but Can you hear my heart has a better storyline than this...

i'm just glad that there's BEst Love for me to watch...i sure hope that the story line will get better!

This is so sad. This is the one I was expecting to be good because of the leads. It turns out this is the one that disappointed me the most. I'm only watching for the cute now. No more expectations for substance.

you know, i love Kang Ji Hwan so much, I'm not noticing all the mess right now. As soon as I play the episode, I'm lost just watching him... so yeah, I'm gonna stick around until the end. i promise to finish this one [MSOAN, it was already painful, i stopped at epi14).

hwaiting, KJW!

It looks as though THE LIE continue to haunt us in this episode after what we thought what was a final reveal a few episodes back.

What the heck, show!?! You keep us on our toes with all the nonsensical, hahaha.

Why is YEH and KJH’s hair becoming browner and lighter as the episodes progresses? Please! I hope they dont turn into full-blown blondies at the end of this series, LOL!

We sometimes think that some dramas are too illogical etc but experience tells us that even though human beings are gifted with reason we always slide down the path of illogical mumbo-jumbo. So this show, and others like it, just so reflects our own very crazy lives. That is why it resonates to so many. Now that’s logical….

Well, I could talk "hair" all episodes long. I think I have a hair issue. I wish more female leads had long hair. I liked Ki Joon's hair in the opening scene of Ep 1. I thought it was KILLER! Yum! Yum! Yum!!!

Sang Hee looked better with longer hair because it concealed the fact that his neck is VERY LONG! Now when I watch him on screen, I keep seeing his very long neck.

Oh, MJP! We are such hair persons, hahahaha!

On Sang Hee...actually I liked his new do better cos its cleaner and more orderly and frames his face better unlike his old one...but you are right, it does emphasize his long neck haha! But he could remedy that maybe with collared shirts, hehe..or a neck scarf maybe :-)

As for Mr Hotel Prez...he is blessed w nice hair but too brown hair on him does not go well with his suits but that's just a personal pref of mine, hehe.

I love YEH in whatever hairdo...she's just one of those few creatures with that kind of beauty :-)

i've figured it out....i was trying to describe the difference in attitude between weecaps and recaps, and i've got it. recaps are like the formal reviews you read in the new york times that we expect to look at all sides of the story, and give us a constructive analysis. weecaps are like the editorials, where writers have free reign with their opinions, and though still well written, are much more informal, often humorous pieces.

so (not that there's a whole lot of you but) those who take issue with the "bashing" of LTM at least by JB, CALM YO TITS!

Oh my God, what the feck is going on here?
To clear my self, I am on of those people that actually like a lot this drama, despite of not being and great in plot, and I already stated that I thing the weecap is kinda harsh.
I am even sad that they dropped recaping, coz it will defenately give me a good laugh.

Though , this is NOT my blog, and I am NOT the one who made it so popular. Its javabeans and girlfriday.
If they want to bash it, then let them do. If there are people who want to bash it as well ( out of trolling, or real dislikeness) let them do it as well. What are we ? Dramabean's police?

Com on, its just a goddamnit drama, don't take things so serious.

Girls, continue what you do , since this is your own (awesome) blog, no matter what.

Thank you!

I've been saying this all along.... This is JB and GF's blog and they blog about what they want to.

If they hate the show, of course their recaps will reflect that. There is nothing wrong with that. They're NOT supposed to be IMPARTIAL. This is a blog for PERSONAL opinions, they just choose to publish those opinions.

There are other blogs that love the show and their recaps also reflect that. If people are bothered so much for what they read here, go somewhere else.

If you want impartiality, go to a news web page, and good look with that.

And if you ask MY opinion, yes, I'm loving the show, I can't get enough of it. Heck! I'm even helping translate it to Spanish. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate JB and GF's point of view. They're my Kdrama sunbaes, mentors and enablers and I respect their knowledge and opinions.

(Except maybe Return of Iljimae. Sorry, sorry, sorry, I had to say it again)
(Ricky the Royal Highness-I'm sorry, please let me keep my head!) *bowing*

Manager Park is my favorite character right now. She is the voice of sanity in this kdrama gone haywire. She totally needs her own drama.

I think Ah Jung is doing fine, its Ki Joon thats messing this drama up. Seriously could they write an episode that includes his balls?
=Hate rage over=

Drama why are you doing this to me? I don't know how much more I can take.
Looking were the drama has gone now I'm not so upset that the recaps were stopped.

Sorry for the hate, i'm going through a rough patch with this drama relationship. I'm still hope full at least for a good ending^^

I was soooo looking forward to both of these episodes and got pretty angry when I finished watching the 10nd episode. From senseless actions to unbelievable stupid(sorry for the language) dialogues throughout the last episode I really don't know what in the world happened to the writers of LTM drama!!!!??? Why the heck are they doing with such talents beside wasting them in unlogical dialogues??? Sorry for my anger but I loved this drama till episode 9/10. Please drama directors: Tale away the booze or whatever your drama writers are taking! Thank you!
I hope the drama gets better otherwise I quit watching after the 13th episode!
