Lie To Me: Episode 12 Open Thread

EPISODE 12 WEECAP

At the Jeju resort, Jae-bum arrives to declare himself lost without So-ran, who’s moved by his admission that her departure sparked suicidal thoughts. Peas in a pod, these two. They think they’re Ike and Tina, but they’re really Spencer and Heidi.

Lurky Yoon-ju calls Ah-jung for a drink and tells her all about why she broke up with Ki-joon the first time and asks if Ah-jung knows what it feels like to have your first love stolen from you by another woman. Oh god, are they really going this route to make Ah-jung feel bad? Okay then.

Ki-joon comes clean about his marriage lie (again) to Chairman Chen, only this time he believes him. Chen walks out of the deal and starts chatting up Great Hotel instead, and this is our Big Conflict for the rest of the hour. Yeah, it’s just as exciting as it sounds.

In cuter news, Ki-joon and Ah-jung start dating like a real couple and he calls them a needle and thread, which might be a cuter metaphor if one of those things weren’t stabby. They do coupley things that go duly noted by a sulky Sang-hee and a bitter Yoon-ju, but at least the former is more mature than the latter and tells her to Let. Go. Already. Dammit. So the older brother got the brains, and the younger brother got the balls?

Ki-joon finally musters the wherewithal to cut ties with Yoon-ju, explaining things in terms of Fate. Because of Fate, he loved someone he shouldn’t have loved, and had to break up with someone he couldn’t bear to break up with. So Fate is doing shit you don’t like? He tells Yoon-ju it’s her turn (to obey Fate, or do shit she doesn’t like, same diff), and declares that he loves Ah-jung. Ooh! And also, errr what? This couple is totally trying to sell the love angle, although I’m only seeing lust. Not that lust is bad. Kang Ji-hwan and lust? I am there. It’s just…let’s call it what it is, shall we?

Ki-joon surprises Ah-jung at home with a meet-the-dad ambush, which are two terms you’d think he’d be wary of putting together. Dad sizes up the boyfriend in the traditional Korean way: Drinky duel! Shots, glasses, and bowls of soju later, both men pass out and then insist they won in the morning.

Now it’s Aunt’s turn to change her mind (again) and push Ki-joon towards Yoon-ju, ’cause conveniently, her congressman stepdad happens to be chummy with Chairman Chen, and they need his association to save the hotel. Aunt is totally giving me whiplash — I like Yoon-ju! You can’t marry her! Wait, never mind! I’m not telling you to marry, just get in good with her! This is business, not personal!

The stress of hearbreak sends Yoon-ju to the hospital, because this writer has been watching way too much Sam-soon and thinks this is adequate conflict. Aunt orders Ki-joon to her bedside, and he goes, but she thinks he doesn’t, and gets all pissy.

Ah-jung is put in charge of a tourism event/traditional cultural performance which is selling poorly, then all of a sudden sold out. She’s proud of herself until she sees Ki-joon sitting there in a mostly-empty theater, and guesses he intervened. Bicker, bicker, make up.

Aunt gives Ki-joon one last chance to get in good with Yoon-ju’s stepdad and sets up a dinner. Ah-jung’s feeling crappy because her boss has found out about her marriage lie and warns her not to mess up again. So Ki-joon’s big decision: Business or love? Ah-jung or Yoon-ju?

We’re not really surprised by his choice, are we?

I agree with u. The drama isn't that bad, comparing to the other dramas that she has been recapping. She has made a lot of people feel like idiots for watching this drama. It is very sad! I used to like her recaps, but not anymore.
Mocking and making fun of something or someone that people see it as their favors or likes is like indirectly telling them that they are stupid.
Stop doing ur weecap shit or just drop the drama completely cuz ur jokes aren't funny anymore!

This is one of the worst dramas right now. If you're not a fan of the KJH-YEH tandem, it's a huge fail. Let's call a spade a spade. One of the few things romcoms have going for them are the witty dialogues but this show fails to produce them especially between the main couple. That's what the earlier episodes should have been about and even if everything else sucked, we should have seen them falling for each other in a fluid fashion. Hot kisses can't be the only thing they have going for them. A writer should lead you on a journey. No, they don't have to hold your hand but they should at least walk ahead of you so you can follow. They shouldn't drop you off in the desert and ask you to find your own way.

And JB or anyone else making fun of the show is not about you. She's not calling you an idiot but simply mocking the show. If she's not your god, her opinion shouldn't matter that much to you. If she is your god, then perhaps there are other problems you should worry about.

Who asked u or her to hold anybody's hand? Do u understand English? Do u kiss azz for a living? I said mocking and making fun of something or someone that people like is like "indirectly" telling them that they are stupid.
She is not my God. She is urs! She sounds like an Angel from hell to me....:)
She needs to realize that a lot of people do read her weecap shit, not just some of azz kissers like urself. She needs to respect all readers. That is all i am trying to say!
P/S: When u have enough money to travel to NewYork. Go to one of Jewish communites in NY and tell them that Hitler was ur God and he was a talented man. Also tell them that it is ur opinion. I guarantee u that ur first right will be protected by the Jewish community!:)

LOL!

What a LAME comeback.

This isn't just a "matter of taste"; having good, witty dialogue isn't dependent on someone's "taste."

The writing for "LTM" is an awful fail.

It's so bad, that it's overtaken "Secret Garden" for its bad writing, stereotypical characters, lack of development of the relationship btwn the 2 leads and too many "coincidences" necessary for the plotline.

0

So it is "awful fail". We got it! If u don't like it, find something else to do. Why are u wasting ur time talking about something that is so "awful" to watch??? Do not repeat the same things that everyone else already has!....That only makes u look like a robot, not a human being:)
U sound like U want to be the center of the universe, huh?:)...Unfortunately, u are not! No matter how much u want people to see u as an intelligent person, u are just one of the Asian- Soap-watchers... like us!:)...hahaha...If U know what i mean.... LMFAO

0

Nonsensical rants directly tells me that some people are simply "not all there". As Professor McGonagall said to a shrieking Umbridge in HPOotP: "You are raving!"

0

How the heck did Godwin's Law come up here in the midst of LTM weecaps? tsk...

0

Do you think that they way they fall in love was not correct? Maybe not for every typical Korean drama, but for normal people is quite typical.
Sexual attraction first, then emotional connection. It's not so crazy about it.. There is no norma that says
Like->hold hands->hugh->say love then kiss (Typical drama storyline).
In real life might be reversed.

Very true.
You don't need to write extreme hatred about the story because it's rude.
If you don't like the story - fine.
Just be careful in what you are writing.
Be very careful in choosing your words.
Many readers are following you. And they get emotionally motivated of your negative comments.
We are here to be entertained and enjoy the story.
Do not drive away your readers because you might regret it.

DRAMABAY, is it possible that you let other writers make a recap if the assigned writer extremely dislikes the story?

Thank you.

How convenient it is to get sick(that's the reason they gave) just when the drama you're scripting is a major fail. Whether it's true or not, that seems too coincidental...dunno...hopefully things will get a wee better in the last 4 ep, I can't seem to stop watching cause I'm masochist enough to stick til the end even when I know this drama is a joke... :/

I lol at people being so worked up over a Kdrama. Honestly, I never find ANY Korean drama with a perfect plot aka not being nonsensical, unrealistic, delusional, over-the-top, cheesy. I watch it for the sake of fanservice and guilty pleasure. True that there might be some hidden moral societal lessons underneath the superficial facade but nah, they are not groundbreaking to the extent I have to spend days and nights dissecting the connotative message. The formula for a drama is EXACTLY replicated. Same applies to LTM; even though people can say that Best Love, City Hunter and Romance Town are better in terms of writing but just "slightly", not a whole lot better. If I want a smart, genuine, persuasive, creative plot, I turn to US/UK drama. Seriously, Dokko Jin is almost like a kid it's UNREAL; his behaviors are hardly reasonable given he is an adult and an experienced superstar in the showbiz. What LTM lacks in writing, it compensates in the romance department; the couple is sizzling with chemistry. Some might say "plot" is the soul of the drama; some do not even care about a Korean drama's plot in the first place (like me). The problem with this weecap is that even though it MIGHT not intend to offend LTM viewers, through half-assing and using mockery/ bitter remarks, this writer makes viewers feel like choosing LTM is their worst decision in life. And even more vexing for LTM viewers who actually ENJOY the show, this weecap lacks objectivity.
Sure this is DB/GF's blog and they can talk however and whatever they like, but they should be aware that this kind of backlashing and feeling some sort of "betrayal" is inevitable, when this blog is not merely a personal site anymore. It has reached a certain level of popularity when a diverse audience expects some sort of impartiality from the writers. I do not blame this one in DB/GF since they do NOT write this weecap, but still consenting to this kind of sarcastic post IN their blog sends a signal to LTM viewers who now interpret them as hostile and unfair. Maybe, more considerate next time?
And for those who find this drama disappointing. I cannot stop you from spitting out criticisms. But I hope those will be refrained to the kind that is constructive and objective. You hate it and you have dropped it many episodes ago, we know it damn well already.

Interesting points you made here, LOL.

I have high regard for western shows but unfortunately all the focus on plot, smartness, cleverness, technicality, technology has sometimes robbed them off the heart and soul of great storytelling.

I think this is the reason that korean and other asian dramas have become more popular and has gained wider acceptance even in US/UK/Europe.

Somewhere in between we will find those that excel in all head (intelligence), heart(soul) and hand(craftsmanship). And it could be western or eastern or whatnot but it would be most amazing if that is so! :-)

But if I am to choose between a show with perfect head and hand but poor soul versus show with excellent heart but middling head/hand, I would choose the latter anytime. Excellent technicality and brilliant logic cannot compensate for poor, depressing and uninspiring content.

"Best Love" and other dramas definitely have their moments when it comes to witty dialogue.

"LTM", otoh, is severely lacking in that area, not to mention development of the relationship btwn the 2 leads.

Frankly, I question your judgment if you think the writing for "BL" is only "slighter better" than "LTM."

I couldnt agree more with LOL... I'm just on I dont care land... I'm only caring for the lead actors, the rest for me is just not that interesting, and even the best ones I've seen it always drops the ball at the end, making you feel like you've eaten a whole cake of chocolate - feeling good, but at the same time stuffy and guilty

For a drama that is not well-liked (judging from the negative comments of readers), the post is getting far too many comments.

I will marathon thru this once it's finished. I put it on the side as the development is a bit frustrating. But still like to watch it for the lead actor and actress. I love both of them.

I just hope they get into well-loved dramas next time... one with a more substantial storyline.

Just finished breezing through episodes 11 and 12.

The visuals are truly arresting. YEH and KJH are such gorgeous beings, hehe. And their chemistry together has taken giddy proportions here...I had to stop myself from smiling with all the cheesy and touchy-feely. Jeju island was also given a stellar role here -- with a beautiful panoramic wide-angle view from the hotel room.

The fake mr and missus have more interactions in these two episodes and the conversations between them have taken on a bit deeper level as compared to before. They managed to be honest with each other and were mature enough to reflect on how the lie messed up their lives and yet gave them the opportunity to get to know their true selves and each other.

After being wishy-washy for the past episodes, this time the writers gave KJH's character the chance to redeem himself in Ah Jung's eyes. And we see him running after her all the way to Jeju and using all displays of his wealth like limousine, helicopter, dinner by candlelight and even his VVIP status to curry the favor of the 3 foreign investors/businessmen. And not to mention playing hooky at work. It would've felt like fanservice all the way through except that he asked her why she created the lie and used a wealthy man to anger So Ran which catches Ah Jung by surprise and made her realize her stupidity/shallowness. It was big of her to 'fess up. And for him to admit back that he was not as innocent. (For a moment there, I felt like it was the show asking for forgiveness from the audience for lying to them and hyping up all the promotion only to disappoint them in the writing arena...so I was able to connect with that! And Im easy to forgive...

Hope the show would continue to revolve more around the development of the relationship between the two main leads and how they will be able to deal with their new-found commitment for each other in the light of reality. I hope they will be given higher stakes and bigger challenges in the remaining few episodes and so the show can redeem itself and end with some degree of credibility. For such two talented actors, they can do so much more...

Stop bashing and telling JB to stop the weecaps. If you don't like it, don't read it, go to the other recappers' sites. I like JB's writing (and GF's too) and a lot of people do too even those who still like the show. I don't like the other recappers because I don't agree with a lot of their opinions and I don't like the writing style. So I don't go there to read how they love the wrong things about the drama, read the fawning comments, then post one of my own to disagree (that will surely just invite their wrath). If ever I'll be brave enough to face the wrath I'll state my opinions politely, not rudely as some avid fans here have done. Then run like hell. =) I'd vote to have the weecaps continued until the bitter end.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH EVERYONE! FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

Can't everybody just respect each and everyone's opinion?! Why jump on the throats of people who has different opinion than yours?! No one's biting your heads off for liking this catastrophe of a drama, nobody's telling YOU not to watch it, so why bash those who dislike it. How many times do people have to explain in order to register into your brains that the negative comments here are not to put this drama down but mere frustrations on the stupidities the writer has written in this dreckage.

For me it was good, better, meh, SUPER meh, and now it's just back to meh...this episode dipped it back to SUPER meh a little. I think they got their romance act together too soon in the game, leaves too much middling, waffling time before the end so they have to trow in ridiculous plot twists like business accidents.
I find it kind of hard to believe that HGJ, Korea's top businessman who clawed his way to the presidency of a whole hotel/business group through ability rather than nepotism, would throw all his good business sense away for something as silly as "love". If he was able to forsake the girl he wanted to MARRY because of his little bro, who plays little to no part in business operations, how can he not leave off going to see hi girlfriend for ONE NIGHT to have a super important business dinner with a super important congressman who might just save his business? WTH? Because he missed her? Wasn't he supposed to be a spectacular businessman? All he needed to do was call her on the way to the dinner and then go see her afterwards. For a powerful and intelligent man, he sure lets his ladies screw up his priorities.
There are a lot of inconsistencies like this in the series that irk me, but I just watch the show while doing something else now to dampen the effect of the terrible writing. The main couple, at least, is electric on screen and their chemistry is undeniable, which is better than I can say for a LOT of dramas (BOF just....just AGH). If I watch it and occupy myself with other things (the last episode I watched while getting my hairs weaved) then it's a nice pleasant filler.
I chose to continue LTM over BFB around the 8th episode of BFB...maybe I should dip back into it >>

the writer of this drama must be running out of ideas! Recently this kinda story seem to be the central theme for most K-dramas..love triangle, lies turn into real love (remember My Girl?) and stupid misunderstandings that IRL would most likely never happen! It's the same thing over and over again each episode, only diff scenarios. There's no elements of surprise whatsoever in this drama and Im only watching it b/c YEH is my fav actress..but seriously, I'd love to see the girl in a drama where she doesn't have to constantly cry until her eyes are swollen like a tennis ball!

I think they should just go all fanservice, forget everything and AJ and KJ can make out, get married, move into his house, have babies and then AJ can finally make her dream come true and be the envy of all her friends for a having a wonderfull rich husband. I will definately watch if they manage to avoid the whole BIG CONFLICT angle even if it means its less exciting and doesn't make much sense.

so much bashing & bickering...makes me feel like not commenting on these threads anymore, but I'm still enjoying the drama even though I don't care for the writing or storyline. Usually, I'll drop a drama quick, after a few episodes if I don't get hook enough. For some reason, this drama gives me curiosity to keep coming back for the next, even though once I start watching it, it becomes predictable....I'm still want to see how these two leads will end up together, even through the nonsensical and what not. I'm just hoping for more cute moments from here on.

I miss, I really miss Coffee House.... I think is so unfair KJH being trapped in this drama where is a f*cked version of Sam Soon meets Fireworks...

I'm only watching to see the couple, but it has gone so so corny that, I'm only downloading to my friend who still likes the drama.... I'm don't even care anymore, truth to be told, this fight between lovers and haters tem DB team KP is way more interesting....

I thoroughly hated My Princess. Yet I dutifully watched every episode. I don't want to complain when a drama shows me SSH wearing nothing but a hand towel, n KTH looking pretty in her princess outfits. Alas, those are the only highlights of the show! The script, the 2nd leads were so bad that I wanted to slap sb on the production team, esp. the writer, when it was over. Why not stop watching? Cos I was hoping against hope that it'd stop being so horrible, n cos there wasn't another couple in another drama airing at the time who were so easy on the eyes.
LTM is somewhat like that. There are few K actresses who are as fun to watch as YEH, n let's face it, KJH is real hot in this show, more than in his previous ones. Anyone who has 20-30 K-drama under their belt would know that this show is pretty bad. They watch, then they rant. Why tell ppl to stop watching when they rant? Haven't you heard of a love-hate relationship? AFter 2 eps, they are like, OK, we are prepared for this to be bad, but are amazed and offended that it is this bad. And they aren't YEH's anti-fans, most of them. Many are offended for YEH's sake, that she and KJH deserve better, in script n production.
The more we like the leads, the more we should let them know when they are wasting good looks, talent and fan-following with shitty scripts, in the hope that they don't keep doing this to us viewers. What is the down side if the message gets across to the powers that be that we love SSH & KTH, YEH & KJH but despise their use of cheap writers and nonsense scripts that waste a good opportunity of fantastic pairings beloved by the masses??? That it is a insult to the actors and an insult to our intelligence???

For me LTM, might not be the best drama but it gives me this positive vibe that I need. Just thinking how YEH and KJW love story progress getting me inspired everyday.

I just don't watch something that would make me feel bad in the end. (negative way)

I just finished watching My Black Minidress, and I find it insteresting. I thought it was a funny movie, but I was wrong. It simply shows us the real life scenario. Those who are not in mid 20s yet probably won't understand.

LTM... where to begin? I think this show could have been decent/okay but it felt like the writers threw a bunch of ideas in a hat and decided to incorporate everything in the order which it was picked. This show has some good misplaced moments. If the sequence of events were different it wouldn't be sooo sloppy, messy, and unfocused.

The characters themselves have no depth... which makes me question their actions and at times it just contradicts who they are or what they are fighting for... very weak plot... maybe the writers should have sat on it a while longer and let it ferment.

I love the chemistry between YEH and KJH.....imagine how great it would be if they got a decent script! I loved the first few eps of this one, but it went downhill fast and I only watched the last few episodes cuz I had to see what happens. I was mystified at what she "lost" and how she suddenly "found" it, I thought Yoon Ju was whiny and wondered how either brother could've ever liked her. I didn't think the SangHee actor (can't remember his name) was a great actor, but I did like that they gave him some compassion, common sense, and balls so he didn't spend the entire time plotting with Yoon Ju.

Whether you like LTM or not - I AM NOT AFFECTED!

I had a great time watching and re-watching for the nth time this drama.

You may hate the script, but I DO NOT.

The story might be cliche for others, but I enjoyed it.

You may dislike YEH and/or HJW - but I DO LOVE THEM.

The fans outside S.Korea was happy watching this.

This is one of my favorites.

Let's not fight over it.

If you do not like the story - then do not waste your time watching it - more so writing bad things about it. It's not good for Dramabay that you are writing negative things about anything.
You have many fans who would like to be happy in reading your articles/recap.
So do not shoo us away in following you, DRAMABAY.
