LOL… I know exactly how you feel! I went to my first Korean restaurant and the owner/chef always comes to the table to greet the guests.
She greeted a Korean couple next to our table with “aneyoaseo” and they had a short conversation in Korean.
As she came up to our table, my daughter grabbed my hand and said “please mom.. don’t embarasse me!… what ever you do.. don’t say hello in korean!”

The opposite happened to me!
I was having a meal with my family at this Japanese restaurant and lo and behold, a korean mom and her son were being umm.. ‘interviewed’ by a waitress. The waitress was going on and on about the dramas she watched and I can’t help but feel that I’m a better addict than she is! Please, all she knew was Boys Over Flowers! She never mentioned the recent ones.
So my family was urging me to go and ‘correct’ the waitress but I was too embarrassed to do it. I left the restaurant with a full tummy but I wasn’t ‘satisfied’. *sigh*
Ajummabunny… what else bulgogi! It was delish it came with 7 side dishes… several kinds of kimchi, anchovie noodle, anchovies.. ooh and kimchi pancakes.
my daughter got spice seafood noodle! Next time I go back I’m trying that!
Everything was delicious… ohhh and we even used scissors to cut some meat!

Oh, good we’re talking about korean food=) I actually want to ask how side dishes work… I know this is going to sound pretty dumb, but here goes: Are side dishes suppose to be eaten like appetizer or just eaten together when the main dish comes? Because I was at a korean restaurant and my softball coach was begging the team not to re-order more side dishes because according to him that will annoy the waiters since side dishes aren’t suppose to be treated like appetizers, yet whenever I re-order (yeah for free food!!! I know, I know, I’m shameless) the waiter always seems so pleased. So are side dishes just a one-time order thing to be eaten as literally a side dish or as an appetizer?
I eat them together with the main dish. The side dishes (Banchan) compliments the dishes by adding variety and further flavors to the meal. Think of it like adding the vegetables to your Sunday roast, Without them there is something missing, but when added it is perfect. Kimchi’s the most common and the most varied. I also like spiced cucumber, bean sprouts, and radish.
I randomly put “Ottoke?” on a piece of paper having to do with a guy at my job in a fit of k-drama-addiction outing itself. It’s been there for months. This week our receptionist took the day to go to her gran’s graduation and I had to cover for 2 hours for the first time ever. So of course I left my stuff in my office miiiiiiles away from her desk. I asked one of the guys to get it for me, and what does he see? His paperwork with “Ottoke?” stuck on top! Which required explanation of course….

Interesting topic of Korean Men’s height. I read an article this week that said Kim Hyun Joong’s website lists him as 182cm and he appears to be the same height as someone else who is 178cm.
hmmm interesting. reminds me of this young man that I was standing behind trying to use him to block the sun from me and it didn’t work. So I asked him how tall he was and he said “5’9 that’s what it says on my drivers’ license.” I giggled because he was shorter than I am.

I actually haven’t been in love with any of chun ho jin’s character portrayals just the implied portrayal. In will it snow for christmas he’s cha chun hee’s greatest love and I find that very appealing. I actually have an unresolved love like hers so I relate to how the love is in her head.

MJP, I think Kim Seung Woo is an acquired taste. He doesn’t hit you with his hotness right away. It’s more about his attitude/the way he carries himself than anything else. I tend to love quiet badasses, and that was exactly what he was in IRIS. In Ripley, he’s still got the quiet badass aura about him, or at least he did until he started falling into Miri’s trap. But I still find him adorable, so it’s all good.

I like LDH in Miss Ripley. If only she could be that “into it” with all her dramas she’d be great. it’s her acting. she looks no different in Chuno than she does in Ripley, really. But being this pale, skinny nymph who has this blazing, fiery eyes, she is very terrifying.
LDH just needs to pick good projects. She should stop getting cute or damsel in distress kind of roles, which she was stuck with post Green Rose and My Girl. For her age and range, it does not fit anymore.
She tends to get roles that feature no depth in character, she tends to pick projects sort of based on the all star power of the project or the cast, and never the material, IMHO.
good thing Jang Miri came along and sort of woke the sleeping giant.
It was a blessing in disguise that nothing happened to Coffee, because this is so far her best performance yet. Hope she maintains this momentum.
also, she probably has motivation now, because of people’s negative POV about her. So she probably is “hungry” this time.

My definition of the word old has changed over the years. I think it’s from people’s parent’s passing away and stuff and realizing that 50 is really young. Also just when talking to my parents who are in their 50s lol. I gotta be careful haha. I’ll usually say ‘older’, as in older than myself, or try to estimate an age if I don’t know.
My younger sister in high school considers these actors in their thirties and forties old, and doesn’t like to watch those shows. But I still love those guys and think they’re hot, be they ten or twenty years older than me. I’ve always liked older guys though

And one observation I’d like to make is how impressed I am at LMH’s fight scenes. The boy really puts in his all – those punches and kicks look SOLID, and considering that his leg contains a ton of orthopedic metal and he’s got a damaged wrist, to boot – well, I better see him mounting the podium for some end-of-the-year awards! He’s turning in a wonderful performance.

I finished ep 13 of 49 days last night, and I’m so excited to see everything coming together. I’m re-in-love with Lee Yo-won. I adored her in Take Care of My Cat and just sort of forgot about her, but googling her up again, it’s a pleasant surprise to re-kindle my love for the actress. And although I’ve semi-spoiled myself from rifling through the header pics of the recaps, and thus know that Ji Hyun will live, I’m still wondering who will be the givers of tears and how she’ll find out Kang was the first.
Lastly, I’d like to exercise my first ever mine-ing rights and lay claim to Na PD. Nobody has done that yet, right? I’m so celebrity-crushing on him.
Shaun of the Dead is a spoof of a scary movie. There are horror parts, but it’s done in a comedic way. It’s actually really really funny!

Not gross out ones, but like I need to know the story for them. Like I’d spend a few hours at night (I dunno why I choose to do it at night…) and wiki the plot for Imprint, Halloween and the likes.
I love Shaun of the Dead! If I could watch all of Simon Pegg’s movies I would. I loved him in Hot Fuzz, Ice Age: DotD (as Buck), and Star Trek 2009 (as Scotty).
About 49 Days, I hope you won’t be disappointed with the ending as some are still are. (I like it.)

I wished either/both of them were in one of the Harry Potter films. Even just lending their voice to a character (like Peeves for example which they bloody well didn’t include in any of the films!). After all, they’ve managed to assemble a veritable who’s who of British actors in the films!
Bloody hell, exactly!! I was outraged that they cut Peeves! And Colin Creevey, only to introduce that awful filler boy in Dumbeldore’s Army, whose name i can’t even remember!
Speaking of Harry Potter, cannot WAIT for the 15th of July! It’ll be the end of an era, that is true. But then again, the seventh movie has remained so faithful to the book, i really have to see how they will end it. i hope they’ll give Remus and Tonks a proper send-off… i love Rowling just as much as the next person, but i will never forgive her for killing them the way she did.

( picture small hunched over girl on train dabbing her eyes with her scarf) I didn’t see the last one because the one before wasn’t as faithful to the book but since you mentioned that they are being good I’ll have to see the last one!
My least favorite of the films was GoF. I hated the crappy editing of that one. I really loved that book but the film was a disappointment. I’ll miss queueing up early on the release date of the books just so I can get HP freebies. I was actually in Seoul last year when part 1 of HP7 was shown in most of Asia. I was hoping to watch it there but they released it in Korea on Dec.3 which was 3 days too late for me.
I also am very excited for the HP7 part 2. I’m most looking forward actually to Snape’s send-off. He’s like my most favorite character in the series and don’t get me started on Alan Rickman…I hope they’d put everything on the scenes in “The Elder Wand” and “The Prince’s Tale” (chapters 32 & 33 – yeah, I’m not addicted to HP can’t you tell?). I’d want Mr. Rickman to give an Oscar-winning performance.

I went and search EVERY spells in ALL the seven books, typed them nicely (with their uses/ definitions) and sent them to the School Yearbook Editors.

Yes, i know exactly what you mean. The conundrum they must’ve faced when scripting how exactly to go about Snape’s tale, reminds me in so many ways of the Lord of the Rings. There was a movie that veered, very often, from the book (Aragorn, conflicted about becoming king?! Pffffffffffft.) But at the crucial moments, when they knew that fans would pan them excessively if they changed what was written in the books, they delivered, and delivered perfectly. I still cry every time i see the end of the third movie, because to me, its PERFECT.
Thats why they really can’t screw around with this Harry Potter movie. Last movie, last chance at getting it right. Until of course the inevitable moment forty years later when they invent some new-fangled way of watching movies… 4-D perhaps, and decide they want to remake the entire series. But for this generation, this is it. The few liberties they did take in the movie, like Scabior being able to smell Hermione’s perfume were well-written, and though personally i hate the fact that they did not play out Godric’s Hollow completely, nor did they show Luna’s room, but those are things that would bother only the most hard-core of fans and in the end, i must admit, it was a verrry well written movie.
All will be forgiven if they get Snape’s death scene right. They can take as many liberties as they want as long as they make that perfect. I won’t care anymore how they didn’t explain how Harry will find the Horcruxes (where was the conversation with Dumbledore on Voldemort’s “trophies”?) or whatever else they’ve omitted. I understand that they can’t include everything especially on the books with lotsa chapters (and I’ve stopped nitpicking since book 4), but they’ve gotta get the important parts right (waited for Snape to shout back at Harry, “Don’t call me a coward!” at the end of HBP). So definitely looking forward to “Look…at…me…” and “Always.” Gah! *getting teary-eyed just thinking about it*

JasonJackson took lots of liberties, in spirit it was true to the books. Loved the acting, the music, the cinematography. Though I still remember while watching the premier of RotK that a lot of the audience (including me) were tittering about Sam and Frodo’s bromance, hehehe…I just want the Lily-Snape flashbacks to be done right. That is the greatest love story of the series.
Harry Potter 7 part 2… definitely waiting for that one^^ I loved part 1 very much and I’m hoping that part 2 will also be as well done.
The scenes with Snape are the ones I’m looking forward to the most! I actually believe that out of all the casting perhaps the best choice they ever made was that of having Alan Rickman as Snape. I remember loving Book-Snape so much even when he was evil and a jerk to Harry and before we knew anything about his back story (because I’m very much a sadist like that since I turned 11) and then when Alan Smexy Rickman became Snape I just about went to Heaven.
I hope that they didn’t switch events around and they just created a great script out of an already awesome book.
This is basically the reason I wanted to comment today. I fricken love Shawn of the dead. And I love that they played that song at the end while beating up zombies. It was hilarious. I should go watch that again also.

My advice for you regarding 49 days is to watch it all at once, then rebuff with BL coz when I watched it without my rebuff I spent the rest of the day and the next day trying to un-puff (if that’s even a word) my extremely puffy eyes.
I haven’t dared to re-watch a single scene since I finished watching it, or even any of it’s pictures.
Oh man…. I’m kinda scared of the ending now…. Cuz ever since starting to watch kdramas (almost 3 years now!!!) I’ve become the world’s biggest crybaby. I cry at the drop of a hat at even the most insignificant, manipulative sad scene. And yet… I keep crawling back for moar. Glutton for punishment I am.
Then maybe you shouldn’t watch 49 days…or you could watch it and tolerate the fountain of tears.

now SHAUN OF THE DEAD was AWESOME!!! my favorite zombie movie of all time!!! i love everything the lead actor has done. hes so funny! (even tho ive totally forgotten his name) i loved how they had to enter the pub but it was surrounded by zombies so they all practice their zombie walks and moans and try to ‘fake it’. soooo funny!!! how they almost made it to the door only to have that one dude answer his fone. ROFL
Wanted to give a small shout-out to Baby Faced Beauty – i’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying it! It’s refreshing compared to the other Mon/Tues drama that feels like it’s not going anywhere! I highly recommend it if you are disappointed with Lie to Me.
My favorite part is that the heroine actually admits her wrongdoing (very publicly, i might add) and explains herself somewhat. There’s no big reveal by the bad guy and then cue the misunderstanding after misunderstanding.
and Choi Daniel isn’t bad eye candy either!
I know, right? BFB does not get the attention it deserves… somehow, people seem to correlate the ‘watchability’ of a drama with whether or not it is recapped on Dramabeans, and that is disappointing, cuz BFB gets hardly any words written about it. Not that I’m grudging you or girlfriday in any way, javabeans… the space-time continuum, she’s a mean bitch to reckon with!
There is something so endearing about Baby Faced Beauty… Maybe its the camera, that makes every scene look like its straight out of a movie, or maybe its the ‘girl-follows-her-dream’ aspect of it, but the show, it really clicked, with me.
But yes, i owe a large part of that instant connection to how ADORABLE Choi Jin Wook was, from the get-go.

This drama really rocks! And the cliffhanger ending of episode 12 has Lee So Young facing a huge challenge to come up with a compelling design for a sportswear. How cool is that?
Compared to BL (which I love to the highest meta-heaven) and LTM (where chemistry of the lead couple is sky-rocketing despite the crazeee plot), BFB is the only one to really maximize and optimize the backdrop/setting of the story which in this case is the fashion design business. The story does not solely revolve around the OTP/relationships but also fleshes out the female lead’s dreams and aspirations. So you will also anticipate how she will creatively out-maneuver her detractors and creatively think of a design solution aside from how she will overcome her own limitations and navigate her way through the romance arena.

His mouth is twisted slightly, which makes it appear to be even more expressive- a lovely smirk, a concerned frown–and the dimples to go with it. Harrison Ford is similar in this respect, the asymmetry makes it so compelling. Yeah, I watch a bit just for his expressions, since the story is no interest to me.

I stopped watching it after the “proposal”. You’re right – there isn’t an ounce of chemistry between the two leads, the storyline is poorly written. The only two characters I found interesting was “Janice” and the little girl who plays the daughter (am too lazy to look up their names).
The little girl is GOOD – she plays the young “Miss Ripley” for LDH in the orphanage scenes.
As for “Janice’s” eyecolor – I thought those green eyes were hers and not contacts. I recall seeing her MC-ing a talk show with Hwangbo a few years ago and her eyes were the same color as now.
But the one thing (actually, there were many things) that irritated me about “Manny” is that they were feeling knowledgeable enough to throw out all kinds of childcare advice in a really superficial manner. Solving kid’s problems in such a breezy manner was (to me as a parent) ridiculous and that “after the show ask the expert” question and answer thing handled by the Manny himself – I wanted to reach through the screen and smack them all.
So, I just voted on this drama with my “off” button…..
Me,too. The writing is so bad.Couldn’t take it anymore after the proposal. There were not any redeeming features about the drama, other than the little girl. I had enough of “I’m Janice” s,as well. They tried spicing it up with the male models showing their bodies-even that weren’t good enough. Wonder why SJS did that role.Yeah at the end with Manny dishing out childcare advice,I just pressed the off button before we get to that. Some bad dramas-they are not irritating,but this one is.

I also stopped this watching this drama after the proposal as well. I think my curiosity about how that would turn out was the only thing driving me on at that point. (Needless to say, it was very lackluster and anti-climatic.)

It was a really bad written drama… I stopped watching at episode 10… I couldn’t stand the mom (come you are a divorce woman with two children, you cannot act like a insecure teenager!!!!)…. And Manny’s character was so superficially develop… it made me too depressed because I like SJS….
Manny is the first kdrama i have stopped watching midway. Maybe i’ll try to pick it up when there’s a lull in Kdramaland.

I think I’ve come to accept the fact that there just isn’t enough time to always watch a drama from start to finish, no matter how much of a completist one is. I’ve dropped Secret Garden, and that one’s hugely popular but I just can’t muster up the interest to go back. I might go back one day, but that’s a slim to none chance.

I first saw him in lawyers looking all spring-chicken like then saw him in bad couple looking a little age-ed then the oldest of the three save the last dance for me looking ancient! I still think he is sexy. I have love for him left over from his days as gichan in bad couple.
You should see him in Successful Story of a Bright Girl. He was super skinny then. Hahah. But I loved him in Lawyers of Korea and really really wished that he got back together with Lee Soo Kyung.

I’ve been watching anime recently, and although I hate dubbed anime, there’s one voice actor, Jason Liebrecht, who drives me crazy. I’ve rewatched Darker Than Black, like, 1000 times just to hear the main character Hei speak. Mrawr!

Yesterday I watched ep 12 over a 2 hour time. I just kept pausing, getting a drink, watching, pausing, etc. As the “time elapsed” number got bigger, I became sadder.
I have a feeling I am going to delay watching the final ep for a day or two, and keep away from any K-drama sites. Just thinking about it being over upsets me.

I’ve watched up until episodes 30 or so and then I just lost my interest and haven’t kept up with it. I know what you mean. I think they lost it when they dragged out the Sa Ran’s angst at the Gisaeng house. And now they are dragging out his parents’ approval. The 2 storylines take up almost 15-20 episodes. I can’t stand it and lost interest. That should have just been a 30 episode drama. Can’t stand it. I used to look forward to it but now I haven’t watched for so long, don’t miss it. I think it was so much better before Damo realized he was in love with Sa Ran.

I started watching sporadically, pretty much skipping through the eps and only watching the main couple but Sa Ran’s passive personality kills me! And i can’t help looking at her nose! The nose job is just so obvious

Its really good now, ep 39. Many got tired of Saran’s rejection of Damo. Oooh Damo, sooo cute. Love this man who is so in love. Saran gets up to a stage she opt to get her hair tied up “a mistress or kept woman”. This is really a big test for Damo. Saran tells Damo why she fears to accept him…the hurt. A beautiful, touching scene. I can’t belive its up to ep 40 now. I must admit I skipped one ep because I got upset with Sara rejecting. But I can’t resist the temptation to see cute, determined Damo win Saran. I can’t get enough of it, I read recaps from “thundie’s”. Really good recaps fo NTOG.
I hope Sran will find her parents soon. I’m just crossed that they are not actively searching for her. Too busy romancing. I like Son Ja…so cute…his dad found him!

I think including Siwon will require a lot of work:
- asking permission from Viola;
- convincing Viola that this is a good idea;
- still, asking permission from Viola;
- keep on trying to convince Viola that this is a good idea;
- point out to Viola that Siwon must step up in the best abs game;
- if we ever get to convince Viola, we should make her sign a memorandum of agreement that she fully agrees to allow Siwon to be included in the video.

I cannot believe having two talents like Kang Ji Hwan and YEH and the storyline did not materialize. What hot chemistry and I mean it’s sizzling. I am still following because I am a fan but so very disappointed.
Maybe we should start a thread here on what kind of storylines K-drama can start working on…and send it to them! Just a short synopsis and the writers there can work on them! LOL.
But thank God for Best Love. I am only on the 3rd episode…I am afraid to go through it too fast and then I’ll be on withdrawal. LOL and how sad is that?

You know what I’ve learned from K-dramas? That loan sharks are an important and honored institution, necessary for sustaining the sagging birth rate, by instilling the right atmosphere and ideal conditions for loving procreation within a very short time frame. (ideally 16 episodes, but occasionally 24). Should legislation and law enforcement ever put the loan sharks out of business, an entire nation of women will have to watch their eggs shrink up and die without any schmexy men to redeem them.
Twin brothers with medical emergencies, mysterious (grand) fathers meddling with royal lineage or voodoo, backstabbing friends who forge your signature, failing restaurants, and someone on the deathbed might be able to subsidize the loss, but they’ll never be able to meet the full demand of all the single women of Korea.

If you are on a Mac (and it makes video editing a dream, BTW) get mpegstreamclip – it’s free, it’s fast, and it enables you to clip video and convert it to a zillion formats. Lovely little program to have handy.
