Protect the Boss changes name, adds to cast

Maybe third time’s the charm: The SBS romantic-comedy series now titled Protect the Boss has already ditched two previous titles, The Boss Has Changed and Last Secretary. Let’s see if it sticks this time.

The drama has also added another cast member to join its main four of Choi Kang-hee (the new secretary), Ji Sung (the boss), Jaejoong (the sharp businessman), and Wang Ji-hye (the cool lawyer). Now rookie actress Lee Hee-won, pictured above, joins them to play Jaejoong’s perfectionist secretary.

Lee Hee-won’s a relatively new face, but you may recognize her from Playful Kiss and My Fair Lady; she played one of Seung-jo’s admirers in the former, and Yoon Eun-hye’s bitchy cousin in the latter. In Protect the Boss, she plays the type of competent, multi-lingual, well-educated, on-top-of-the-ball type of assistant who I suspect will make Choi Kang-hee look particularly bad in comparison. Especially since she’d do anything to help her own boss, Jaejoong, and Ji Sung stands in the way of Jaejoong’s upward mobility.

So: War between bosses, war between their secretaries. Seems like they’re setting it up for Team Perfectionists versus Team Heo-dang, with the bumbling pair as our heroes.

Also, an added tidbit about our two leading men: They’re rivals AND cousins. Has somebody been watching Secret Garden? Except, why do I have the feeling the Oska’s the hero this time?

Protect the Boss will take to the air following City Hunter in August.

Don't be ridiculous. There are dramas that are better than City Hunter...many actually. I just don't think this one will be one of them. It is a fluffier drama and the cast doesn't sound bad. I especially like JiSung. He is an excellent actor. It isn't to say that I expect bad acting or anything over the top, simply that I expect a more typical drama but I could always be wrong.

I wont base any potential for this drama on SBS, they have done some hit-and-miss work in the past.....

woah. that's a little harsh. Ace was just stating her opinion about city hunter. you don't need to shoot it down so quickly.:) you don't have to deem Ace's opinion ridiculous. you could just say you disagree.:) i, too, am enjoying city hunter very much and i think it's got a lot going for it. and yes, i also think that it's one of the better-made dramas as of late. and i also agree with you that this is different fare from city hunter. i will definitely not be comparing the two dramas.:)

I also am watching City Hunter and I don't think it is the best. It is enjoyable but I do not get hooked like others viewer. I guess my taste is different. I feel lately I can never be able to finish any Korean dramas. It always starts out good and then I loses interest in the middle and never be able to finish it. One example is Best love or My girlfriend is a gumiho. It is ok but feel like it just another typical Hong sister's drama. Then Secret Garden is another example. I get bored half way and then stop watching.

One of the reasons for my boredom could be due to the fact that most Korean dramas nowadays focus too much on love stories or make it like a fairy tales that I cannot connect with. I absolutely sick and tired of Cinderella like kind of story that do not reflect real life situation. Just my 2 cents.

City hunter is good to watch for the male lead but I believe that the characters are not deep enough except maybe for the vet ; and the way the story progresses is always the same as there are 5 people to eliminate and CH goes on with his method whareas Dad goes with his own .I have been disappointed with PMY whom I had liked so much withSKKS .
I know I 'll watch this one because I feel connected with the four leading actors .
There are dramas worth watching now : I need romance , New tales of gisaengs , Baby-faced beauty ( repetitive too but with 4 leading awesome actors ) .

It's going to follow our City Hunter?!
Oooo..I may watch, but believe me, there'll be some bitterness attached to my viewing.

And WTH is it with all these indecisive title changes?!
Maybe there should be a spinning dart board with a whole load of potential titles randomly pasted on, and let the
dart(s) fly! First hit is it! No do-overs!!

you mean Jaejoong's no Lee MinHo?

*places self on fangirl-mode*

of course Jaejoong's no Lee MinHo. he's a god who rose from the east... and now he's become the jaejoong-of-all-trades: from singing to composing to acting to directing, etc.

*reverts to logical self*

but Lee MinHo's probably and for surely the better actor. but in terms of beauty and popularity, that might be subjective. V (^^) V

@Cynthia
To be rational: no two person is alike
Now, I don't know what you're comparing Lee Minho to Kim Jaejoong
Career-wise all-around, Jaejoong has done more in the entertainment industry than Minho and more well-known so do you really want to blurt out something random like your comment?

also, don't judge so soon
We'll have to wait and see Jaejoong's acting in a KOREAN drama first
Sure my fangirl-jyj-biased would think he'll be amazing at acting and more; it's only natural ^^

Quick! Look up! That was my comment going over your heads.... :)

My apologies, ladies!

@Cynthia
Yeah... My fangirl alter-ego was a bit hurt by your comment... Although I agree that Jaejoong is still quite inexperienced as an actor.

But still, I think it's not proper to compare Jaejoong to LMH...

This could be either a silly and fun or silly and crappy office drama. Ji Sung shows some awesome comic acting in Royal Famility despite the colossus angst. I'm looking forward to more of him! Rest of cast look great!

City Hunter is great. But somehow,I don't feel hooked by this drama. Dunno why. It had a different feeling when I first saw 49 days. 49 days really makes me like a stalker! I always searching for spoilers, waiting for another teasers for next episode, etc. Really, even d story more...interesting to me than City Hunter. Well, for me it is. But I love LeeMinHo tho.

Btw,I'm gonna watching Protect the Boss (or whatever the title) just bcos Jaejoong oppa. Hope after watching it,the story will be great.

I'm really looking forward to this. I liked 'Last Secretary' but 'Protect the Boss' works too. Makes him really sound heo-dang. Haha. It'll be sad saying bye-bye to City Hunter so I hope the good vibes I'm getting from this will manifest itself as a good drama. XD

who are we comparing? if the comparison includes Jaejoong, i can attest this guy is a GOOD japanese speaker. the dude has so many Japanese friends [including oh-so-famous Johnny's boys...], so he knows how to communicate. plus, he co-starred in a Japanese dorama so... yeah. if Jaejoong's not part of the comparison you're talking about, then my post is useless. lol.

oh.em.gee. hahaha. kinda funny how that becomes sort-of a debate. bt yeah, jaejoong's japanese has become very good. he's a better speaker than i have, to my regret. lol. he can write in kanji but at times with some grammar mistakes. oh well.

more than excellence in japanese, i hope his blooper ways have lessened. i watched him film Heaven's postman in korea. and oh my god... he's the king of bloopers!

LOLLOL... about "the who's the best japanese speaker in dbsk" combo in yesterday's thread..

fangirls indeed are scary..
and being inside JYJ/DBSK fandom myself, i'm pretty much sure we'll be scarier than KHJ's.. either the fans or antis.. =D

but seriously, i reeaaally hope this "little things" won't turn JB & GF off this drama..
sorry for the inconvinience.... *bows to JB, GF, & DB readers*

i love JJ soo much, that it worried me whether this drama will be a success or a big failure instead..
not really fond into the preview realeased so far, but whatevaa, i'm soooo gonna stalk this drama..

so please, please, please, DB & GF.. do the recap on this show, pleaase,,, *puppy eyses*

have a lil' more faith though
i think almost everybody is mature enough to digest any kind of criticism; the JYJ fandom's average age is not that young

but if i see anybody spouting any "how dare JB criticize my oppa" rubbish imma be there to de-troll frying pan in hand

LOVE YOU JB/GF

That is because this drama has not started. How can you comment on something that hasn't been released yet?
People will continue speaking (in something approaching nostalgia) about City Hunter. I can see the tears coming....
LHM is ultra fine! It is indeed a shame that this is ending soon. We'll complain I guess but I'll still watch this upcoming drama.

I just really want the script writers to not tank it, the music directing can get a bit annoying but it doesn't destroy a drama the way bad writing does. Korea has a bit of a love-hate relationship with Jaejoong so I really want his first domestic drama to showcase something more than a "pretty face"
