Can’t Lose holds first script reading
by | July 20, 2011 | 46 Comments

That was fast. It seemed like just yesterday that the leading man, Yoon Sang-hyun, was cast to partner Choi Ji-woo in her new drama, and already they’re in rehearsals.

With casting now confirmed, MBC’s light romance Can’t Lose went straight into script readings on July 18. The drama is about a married couple (Choi and Yoon) in the process of divorce, which leads to “fierce, but funny” episodes. Looks like the comedy is a strong presence from the start, since there were reportedly bursts of laughter at the table read in response to the comic situations and dialogue.

The drama also features a robust supporting lineup that includes Kim Jung-tae (the wonderfully creepy Hirayama in Miss Ripley), Park Won-sook (Pil-joo’s shrill mom in Best Love), veteran Kim Ja-ok (High Kick Through the Roof, The World They Live In), and Jo Mi-ryung (Life Is Beautiful, Chuno).

I think this could be a fun drama, if the chemistry between Choi Ji-woo and Yoon Sang-hyun is right. Seems like we’re in for a lot of cute, comic bickering, which is a hoot when done right, and I’d love to see Choi’s lighter side out in full force, since I know she can do cute. If her recent 1 Night 2 Days stint showed anything, it’s that she’s an aegyo queen. And Yoon Sang-hyun does have a tendency to overdo the comedy, but I actually prefer when he’s being dramatic, because he tones it down and gets you with the emotion. I can totally see them fighting their way right into romance (or back into it, since I presume they had it at one point, but have since lost that lovin’ feelin’).

Can’t Lose follows You’ve Fallen For Me and premieres on August 24.

I so would love to have been in that room. One of my crack dreams is to hang out on the set of kdrama from pre-production through filming just to witness the kdrama magic happening. In that dream I also speak fluent Korean, so yeah…

    • 4.1 elizabeth

u will be very bored and your dream of that magic will burst because there is a lot of waiting time. sometimes the director or someone in charge will start yelling. then the stars daily habits will show and maybe very different from their public front.

Another fun drama to watch out for. :)

But hey, I really need to know Choi Ji-woo’s secret on defying aging. LOL Look at that face?? Did that ever change since Winter Sonata? I’m envious!! XD

      so true rich.

        also good genes.

    • 5.3 Lenita

yeah, choi ji woo sooo pretty. good genes would help i bet.

  6. snorty

Quite fast that the PD really come down to work. Both leads are fresh and healthy. How many epis are there? Thanks JB, you’re fast too.

  7. Yoori

    OSKA! OSKA! OSKA! (=

CJW is forever young! I wonder how old she really is?

  8. Jesse

Choi Ji Woo in a simple tee and light make up still managed to look STUNNNING! Is it me or YSH looks chubby here? Maybe it’s good that CJW and YSH look like an odd pairing since their characters are polar opposite but hoping for strong chemistry. I wonder if YSH feels pressured being the lead man And has to prove to everyone that he can do the job.

  9. integrity

I always enjoy the inclusion of the bubbly, bubbleheaded Jo Mi Ryung whenever and wherever she appears and have loved and hated the erternally cute veteran Kim Ja Ok in about a hundred dramas (currently watching her in 2005′s ‘Be Strong Geum Soon’). I must concur with Jesse @08, Ji Woo does indeed light up the page in any attire. I guess that’s why she’ll always be “The Princess”…

    CJW is flawless.

i hope the two of them hit it off! on- and off-camera! ;)

  11. 11 kkk

i like the storyline and dat its a rom com of sorts with a tough plucky female lead. thou im no CJW fan but shes a good solid actress. m less excited YSH he nvr endear me to him in the 2 dramas dat i saw him. so of so much ppl to choose from m disappointed its him. shall wait til ep 1 is out and c wat dramabeans verdict before i try it out

Since they’ve gone into script rehearsal so fast i wonder if they’re planning to cut You’ve fallen for me?

    • 12.1 Laeah

You’ve Fallen for me only has like what, 5 weeks left?

  13. 13 JJS

Who’s the director? is he/she any good with rom com dramas?

  14. 14 Evma

Thanks JB. If this is a comedy romance with a very light melodramatic mood then it’s quite worth anticipating for it. I like both Ji-woo and Sang-hyun. Will this be on Wednesday-Thursdays slot?

“And Yoon Sang-hyun does have a tendency to overdo the comedy, but I actually prefer when he’s being dramatic, because he tones it down and gets you with the emotion”.

I agree with you JB on this, i do prefer him in a more emotional scene than like he did in MFL where i thought he was overreacting in most scenes. Don’t get me wrong, i’m a huge fan of his since Taebong role in QofH but true enough he’s better in sad scenes! :)

  16. 16 Blanche

if i can just borrow her flawless skin and ageless beauty, even for a day i wldn’t mind but she might mind! :) she’s so pretty & doesn’t seem to age since her WS days! she’s one of my favorite K actresses of all time, i only have a handful of K actresses on my list compared to K actors which is getting longer/longer each time i see a new face in a drama hahaha kekekeke however, i can’t wait to see this, i like YSH too but hope he doesn’t overdo his comedic roles, i agree with JB also on this!

    • 16.1 elizabeth

      she maintained herself very well.

  17. 17 Maricel

    i really wanna see her!!!

  18. 18 spark67

What would it take for these people to put Kim Jung Tae in the MAIN ACTOR role? He has the acting chops down pat so what’s the problem? He would have been great with CJW as is their height. I would have loved to have seen that. Please God!!! Let Kim Jung Tae have a main role…PLEASE?!?!?!?!

    • 18.1 SpongeBob

haha…you need to tell the production company!!! if you willing to to invest US$100mn, they may change their mind!!

  19. 19 Suzie

I am just curious how they will address each other.
    JW to YSH : oppa?
YSH to JW: sunbae? since she’s more veteran in acting than him? She debuted in 1995 whereas YSH in 2005

  20. 20 nnoooo

    flop

    • 20.1 SpongeBob

Still too early to judge, perhaps after the fourth episode, we can know for sure, whether it is the beginning of the sunset for CJW or the end of a new beginning for CJW’s success in transforming herself into a new path!!

      • 20.1.1 watercress

I got confused with your line. the beginning of the sunset for CJW, the end of the new beginning for CJW’s success ..ah.. which one is the old ending and which one is the new beginning of the new path. Please make it simple Panda. ^^

      • 20.1.2 ck1Oz

Well that was a pretty confident answer considering the acting cast is strong.

        Way to support…not.

      • 20.1.3 watercress

How does a salted fish look like?

  21. 21 blahblahblah

    She looks so cute! :)
    I think it’ll be a cute drama, can’t wait!

  22. 22 Cynthia

Can’t Lose” is the one I’m waiting for – if the stars and planets align, it has the recipe for total success. It sounds like they’re going to be behind almost from the premiere. It’s fortunate that these are experienced performers/pds/writer(s) – they’ll have a better chance of pulling off a quality production even when pushed to the wall.
As for the casting, the selection of YSH is just about perfect. This will probably be the project that will put him into that final, top level for actors. He’s worked hard and deserves this role – I’m looking for some really good connection with these two.
Choi Ji-woo has shown that she has a slightly ditsy 4D personality with a cute side when she appeared in the Actress Special in 1N2D last month. YSH has gone the comedic route on his last few dramas – now’s the time to let his Leading Man freak-flag fly! Can’t wait!

  23. 23 hehe

I’m very excited for this! Can’t wait!

  24. 24 jandoe

what’s with the lawyers uprise in Kdramas this year or is it just me? they need to bring some engineers in, i swear!

  25. 25 via

wow.. already reading script??? yeahhh.. the sooner the better right?! hehehe.. can’t wait for this drama.. CJW is so beautiful even without put on so much make up. I think she’s even better without make up, sometimes she looks older when she put on much make up such in Star Lover. Well.. I hope both of them have a great chemistry so this drama will end up nicely to watch..

  26. 26 sm1leitsamy
