just finished watching CH ep 14! Bromance!!!! Bromance!!

    • 1.1 ahjummabunny

I’m rooting for bromance too. are you watching any other shows right now?

      • 1.1.1 mrskimchee

yes, watching RT and eventhough there’s not much romance there, and was going to throw something at my monitor watching ep 18 when the maid were fighting constantly…finally able to held my self together and looking forward to the next episode :)
finished LTM, BFB and Greatest Love also..but my top 2 list of May dramas would be CH and RT.
Will start CYHMY now while waiting for next Wed-Thur episodes.

        • 1.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

I watched a few episodes of romance town but the subs were sucky and the drama itself lost its way. I’m only reading recaps. I’m loving babyfaced beauty. daniel choi is adorable! I am watching the ending of each lie to me episode like the last 15 minutes because it airs during babyfaced beauty and only reading recaps for city hunter ( conflicts with greatest love) but I’m seriously considering picking it up when greatest love ends. I’m a bit off on the may drama timetable but most of them were pretty good and I’ll choose a favorite at the end of july.

          • 1.1.1.1.1 mrskimchee

I’m probably one of those people who are not in the majority favours …
I love KJH but hate LTM :(
I always enjoy Hong Sisters dramas, but just couldn’t bring myself to like CSW :(
I like what BFB is about, but was rooting for RyuJin :(
Leaving me with RT and CH
I discovered JGW is such a hottie in RT ^_^
I was pessimistic with CH before it aired, only to realised that I am actually addicted to this show and just ignoring the original manga characters so I can totally immerse in Yoon Sung’s world.

          • 1.1.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

of course you’re rooting for ryujin! I will share jung gyu woon with you. you may see him under-dressed in dr. champ. I’m salivating remembering that show.

          • 1.1.1.1.3 mrskimchee

Dr Champ is on my to watch list too, but i wonder if he got the girl? or not? i thought JGW wasn’t the main lead but UTW?
i like UTW too..but now that i have this huge crush on JGW and PSH so only either of them could get the girl :)

          • 1.1.1.1.4 ahjummabunny

let’s just say you will not be disappointed with dr.champ.

          • 1.1.1.1.5 MJP

            ahjummabunny Happy Friday!

I too feel that RT lost it’s way. I know some are liking the fact that the show has “gone to the Dark side”, but not me.

I thought the ending of BFB was cute. I haven’t watched it with subs though. I may go back and watch it again at a later date.

I am so so soooooo happy that the evil woman didn’t get her hands on the boss. She was way too vengeful for my taste. If she would have apologized to him for lying instead of continually trying to attack everyone with meanness, they could have gotten together. Honestly, who really wants to be in a relationship with someone like that willingly. A person would have to continually walk on eggshells around them.

I thought DC’s character and JN’s character were pretty well matched. They always sparked with each other, like he brought her to life. Her character was very shy and insecure in the beginning, but her desire to design drove her to make some decisions (like lying) to pursue that dream before it was too late. He was like a ray of sunshine, to me, because he always made her light. It was a cute realistic OTP.

          • 1.1.1.1.6 zgznoona

mrskimchee Dr. Champ is not your regular drama so couples don’t end up as in the regular dramas. That said, it is so worth to watch it.

        • 1.1.1.2 syer

I just watched a few episodes of CYHMH and I can’t help my self to stop. What a wonderful story and teriffic acting by child actors. i’m so glad that i only watch now, so i can just watch non stop this weekend. Oh, tears keep flowing river… so sad…

    • 1.2 Linda

i wanted CPR! but sadly he started breathing on his own :(

      • 1.2.1 mrskimchee

LOL! never thought of that…but why not??

      • 1.2.2 red

haha me too….for a crazy moment i actually thought he was gonna go for it

        • 1.2.2.1 izzie

I know, right?! :) I thought, YS was going for the CPR. I was screaming in my head with eyes wide and facial expression that stayed for the longest five minutes.

      • 1.2.3 Jomo

        My thoughts, exactly.
Or at least they could have teased us a little more…

Instead of YS putting his hand in front of YJ’s nose to see if YJ were breathing, he could have put his cheek there, then turned his face ever so slightly so YS’s lips were near YJ’s chin… for a moment…then pulled back.

I think I would have needed CPR to restart my breathing.

        • 1.2.3.1 izzie

well… Prosecutor kind of compensated with the ankle-grabbing. :) Some semblance of bromance, still.

    • 1.3 zgznoona

  2. zgznoona

Happy Friday to everyone. I can’t believe than this weekend end CYHMH, I’ve watching in for so long. I going to miss it.
Also I’m loving I Need Romance, its getting more interesting and funny by the days.

    • 2.1 malta

Good morning! I will miss CYHMH too, but I’m ready to see how this raps up. Maybe I will pick up I Need Romance. Haven’t seen it.

      • 2.1.1 mrskimchee

        I’m just about to start CYHMH tonight…yay…still 30 episodes to go….. :)
and I need Romance is also on my watch list

    • 2.2 drama4mama

I find I Need Romance so addicting and refreshing.. each episode I’m so glued to it, I also just started watching CYHMH and it really pulls at your heart, love it to death so far.

      • 2.2.1 kaleido

Yes.. I am looking I Need Romance.. anyone know the songs that they play in the opening and ending and all the dramatic moment… the songs are great.. and I am loving it..

CYHMY sucks me in… loving it so much and I must say the acting are superb.. I am gonna miss it….

        • 2.2.1.1 kaleido

I meant loving I need Romance!

        • 2.2.1.2 trixicopper

The song at the end is a really old one. It’s from a movie called Gilda with Rita Hayworth and Glen Ford.

Great movie… talk about dysfunctional couples. These two could be the poster children for for that! Great movie though. :)

          • 2.2.1.2.1 kaleido

            oh thank you!

          • 2.2.1.2.2 kaleido

Thanks so much.. I got the version that I wanted and is from Pink Martini – Amado Mio.. and the other songs that are in the drama also from Pink Martini…

          • 2.2.1.2.3 ahjummabunny

is it put the blame on mame? I love gilda. I have to remember to recommend it to people.

      • 2.2.2 skelly

Glad to hear others are addicted to it, too! I really like the messy, tattered “ending” to IY and SS’s 10-year relationship: with her not being able to admit the truth to her BFFs, and his stalking, and her unable to feel anything for someone else, yet – it’s just very realistic, which I was not expecting at all (this is TV, after all…). And I had to laugh at the latest episode, with the guy cleaning his teeth at the table—! I hope it wasn’t some act he did to “test” her, or something, because sorry but that’s the sort of thing that happens on real dates and it made me LOL.

        • 2.2.2.1 zgznoona

Yeah I need romance ep 8 was really funny. The ending was epic. She almost had a heart attack.
I wish she would get over the 10 year relationship and fall for the other guy, he is so inlove with her. But I know is hard to let go of someone you loved for so long. I’ve been there (I’m still there)

        • 2.2.2.2 hookedonmonix

I am really loving it, too. I wish I had picked it up later, because I am not a patient girl.
I like that we really have no idea who IY is going to end up with, or even if she’ll end up alone. I feel like there is even a possibility of her falling for Alex.
Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if the hire-a-man is interested in Alex, too.
anyway, I could go on and on about this one- so I won’t. :)

    • 2.3 ahjummabunny

I’m glad can you hear my heart is ending!!! that means I can start watching it or continue to ignore it. but hooray for love will start with jin yi han and byung jung soo!

    • 2.4 Autumn

I love I Need Romance too, it’s a perfect rainy-day drama. The characters are so flawed it’s kind of awesome, I can’t decide whether to love them or hate them. Choi Jin-hyuk was a revelation, his character is so adorable and hot at the same time and I feel kind of bad that I’m rooting for his affair with In-young, gawd I must be crazy.

      • 2.4.1 bubbleyum

you are not crazy! i think suk-hyun is a lot more deserving of in-young than horrible lying cheating sung-soo! and he is a lot hotter than kim jung-hoon too in my opinion :P

i just believe once a cheater, always a cheater! he’s has done it twice now, and it makes me mad to see that he’s trying to excuse his behavior as something that just spontaneously happened. it was totally pre-meditated, the way he got reservations in advance at the pension/hotel and everything, smiling with the both girls stuffing his face with spaghetti… ugh, TERRIBLE. in-young should not take him back!

“i need romance” is my new fave drama these days… at first i thought it was a complete sex and the city rip-off/wanna -be but it has it’s own flavor unique to the korean dating scene.
although i will say that the whole single thirties dating scene is not so rife with sucha blatant casual sex culture like this drama depicts. people are still kinda conservative, and i don’t know ANY girlfriends that talk about sex and dating like these three girls do. hah. i guess it makes for good drama though.

        • 2.4.1.1 Sethe

Oh, if I comment on this, I might be opening up a huge can of worms… yet I’m very curious about the experiences of all the women (and men) here with such diverse backgrounds.

Almost all of the women who were my good friends in college and in the following, uh, ten or so years, had sexual relationships with men they were “dating.” And I can count on one hand (okay, with three fingers) those who ended up married to the man in question (and one was for a green card).

Why is this? Is it the attitude that there are women you date (as in, bang) and women you marry? Or is it that idea that “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free”?

These aren’t rhetorical questions… I’d really like to know the answers.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

          • 2.4.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

the thing I’m learning more and more is we do a lot of things unconsciously. most of the people you ask will probably have no concrete answer. poor work ethic, poor family relationship ( irreverence for parents, disjointed sibling relationships), lack of spirituality (acceptance of a higher power not so much religion) and educational background/prospects are a my qualifiers/dis-qualifiers. I don’t directly consult a list at the time I make the decision about the person as in I’m not aware that is the reason I say no thank you, but thinking about it carefully I can answer this way.

          • 2.4.1.1.2 Jomo

I will flip your observation and question on the other end.

Do you think the intention of those who “have relations” with others is to marry them?

Answering your question for myself, I had more than one partner in college. There was NO WAY I would have married any of them. “Relations” was not a step for me to finding a husband. I don’t remember actually ever looking for a husband. I just happened to find one accidentally years after college.

So I am not sure guys go about “sampling” milk with the intent to buy a cow. (That image made me LOL!)
Of course, if early on in a relationship, a guy tells a woman/girl the reason he wants to sleep with her is because he loves her, the girl should go running running in the opposite direction from this lying man. He is telling her what he thinks she needs to hear in order for him to get her in bed.

          • 2.4.1.1.3 skelly

From my personal experience, I think more women fall into the In-Young category than the other two – frankly, none of my friends were either as scarily promiscuous as the one friend or as unlucky/unrealistic as the other. Most girls are rightly so looking for someone to marry, and will only have a serious relationship with someone that they want to marry. Of course it doesn’t always work out, it may take a couple tries and some serious growing up/painful experiences.

That being said, that was 20 years ago and it seems to me that this “system” is slowly crumbling. It’s not just a “why buy the cow” thing, people have been saying that for 40 years now, it is more of a lack of feeling of responsibility, an avoidance of adulthood. I think it is the result of a toxic combination of self-obsessed parents who no longer take the effort to actually raise children, an educational system that punishes high energy and rogue thinking, and a society that alternately ignores children or stifles them in safety rules, “stranger danger,” artifical “self-esteem” boosts, or PC double-speak.

          • 2.4.1.1.4 Sethe

Jomo (et al.), that’s kind of exactly my point… the women I know haven’t felt that the power in a relationship (whatever its terms may be) is theirs. They/we have all felt that all the decisions (regarding continuation of the relationship) lie with the man (because he can so easily move to another female, with no consequences for him).

Frankly (and I’m being totally honest here), I can’t see why any male would settle down with one woman, when he could so easily avoid the responsibility and consequences any woman might be obligated to take on.

Obviously, I’m fairly cynical about all of this, but these are pretty much my true thoughts.

          • 2.4.1.1.5 Jomo

I am absolutely a realist, too, which I think is a nice way of saying I am also cynical of “true love.”

But we need to separate out sex and love and marriage.

Marriage is very very difficult full time job. If someone is holding out for marriage to have sex the first time, that is a nice thing. But nobody should get married to someone because they want to have sex with them.

You get married to someone because even though you picture yourself with this person in the worst possible scenarios, you think you will still love him.
You can imagine a time where he is snoring loudly next to you, you want to kill, but you don’t. Even though there is a hole in the wall because he keeps promising to fix it, and the flooring in the family room is unfinished, and he keeps telling you the same stories over and over.

Maybe because he can make you laugh more than anyone, and you like the way his skin smells, and you miss him when he isn’t there bothering you.

It is not exactly romantic to be married for 20+ years, but I can honestly say, my heart does still speed up when I kiss him, so that is something, isn’t it?

When I look back at my dating years, I am glad I had other experiences before meeting my husband. I think I would have always wondered if I had settled for the right man, or not.
I didn’t sample that many bulls, but I did manage to get one who I liked better than any other.

          • 2.4.1.1.6 Sethe

Love what you said about “sampling bulls,” Jomo. I wish I could identify, but I’m somehow trapped in this idea that it’s the man who has the power and the decision-making potential in a relationship.

Don’t get me wrong… I’m quite the flirtatious type; I spin my little webs to attract men to me… but I can’t break out of this feeling that the perpetuation of a long-term relationship (and I’m not saying that I even want such a thing with any particular man… often I don’t, which may just mean I’m pursuing the power I tend to believe lies with the man, for (predominantly) sociobiologial reasons). Anyway… what’s my point?

I guess my point is that I don’t understand (in k-dramas or elsewhere) why any man would be content to settle down with any one woman.

Call me cynical, call me bitter, but that’s what I’ve seen…

          • 2.4.1.1.7 Jomo

            OK, Sethe,
Explain to me the importance of having “power” in a relationship.
Do you mean freedom to leave?

Why would a man want to settle down with one woman when he could go and have sex with any number of women?
I don’t think men want to have to keep going out and reconquering a different mate every two years.
Sure biologically they can, but with birth control, so can a woman.

Wouldn’t a man want to have the same woman in his life for the same reasons he wants to have the same friends for life? When you like someone, you want to spend a lot of time with them. When you find someone who shares the same values, goals and other things, you stop looking.

          • 2.4.1.1.8 pipit

I think it might depend on what one wants. Some people might only want the simple milk. But there are others who might be looking for an expensive cow.
Why men want to buy a cow? Perhaps the same reasons with why I want to buy a bull.
I’m not looking for marriage. Never even imagine myself to get married. But I’ll get married if I find that Mr. Perfect who doesn’t have to be perfect at all. But he would be perfect for me.
When I find that someone who I can imagine spending the rest of my life with, who I respect, admire, like and trust while knowing all the things that I don’t like about him I’ll marry him.

          • 2.4.1.1.9 Jomo

            @pipit
The perfect man thinks like Editor Song Seung Jun, looks like The Hand Towel and loves like any character Joo Sang-Wook plays!

          • 2.4.1.1.10 Sethe

Hey, guys, sorry I couldn’t continue our conversation before, but it was night where I am, and I went to sleep for a while.

Anyway, before I get into “power,” I guess I’ll tell a little story that perhaps informs my current views about love and marriage and all that.

When I was in college (and just after) there was a man I truly believe I would’ve married in a heartbeat. I thought then, and still think now, that what I felt for him could only be “love,” and that “love” could be nothing other than what I felt for him. For, uh, some reasons I won’t go into here, we couldn’t be together long-term, but I met him again after 10 years or so, and I still felt that he “got” me like no one else ever did, and I think we certainly could’ve imagined ourselves married to each other, if circumstances had been different.

I seem to always go off on all these tangents, and never really know what my point is, but somehow, that experience was important in informing my views about relationships. Maybe it’s that I’ve never found anyone who made me feel that way. I dunno…

So, I guess my point is that I don’t not believe in love.

          • 2.4.1.1.11 Sethe

Also, Jomo, regarding your comment about “power,” I guess my feeling is that it’s defined as the ability to break/cut off the relationship when the other person still wants it to continue.

Okay, I just had a flash of clarity about what I mean by all of this rambling. (Smoking my first cigarette after a year or so of abstinence totally calmed me down and cleared my brain — yeah, everyone here is going to judge me for this, but there’s nothing that helps with stress like smoking [except drinking, and one can't do that at work, for example] — well, or reading the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, but sometimes that’s not enough for me). I’m in a very stressful life/work situation right now (totally of my own making, and I absolutely take responsibility for it), and it’s only negative coping mechanisms that can help me right now.

In a RELATIONSHIP, meaning a short-term dating (or whatever) thing, I’ve certainly been the one who cuts things off as much as any man has. But as far as MARRIAGE, hasn’t that always been (and still is) the man’s choice? He’s the one who chooses to propose (or not), so in that sense, the power truly lies with him, not with the woman.

(Yeah, and now everyone knows what a f*d up person I am, if it hasn’t already been obvious, but I know my issues and I know what to do about them… it’s just difficult — and I’m sharing all of this cause I truly respect the opinions of those who post here.)

          • 2.4.1.1.12 hookedonmonix

If power= the ability to end things, then power doesn’t belong to the man, but to whoever is less in love (which is pretty much what IY is going through- SS had the power to cheat on her/hurt her because she loved more, and she has the power in her new relationship because he loves more). It’s not an uncommon theme in K-dramas that someone doesn’t want to ever fall in love, because they’ll wind up “losing.” It’s why some people play their feelings so close to the vest, they’re trying to protect themselves.

          • 2.4.1.1.13 Jomo

I think hookedonmonix hit the nail on the head.
The person who loves more, or who is less willing to let go, has the power. But IRL, who that person can change, just like in the shows.

Kdramas are good at showing the see-saw ride of “who loves whom” more throughout a OTP’s relationship.

The typical story:It starts out as the girl crushing on the boy, they move in together, he starts to develop feelings, she likes his best friend, she threatens to leave because he won’t acknowledge her, she leaves, he pursues and eventually they decide to stay together at the end, right?

But that is NOT the end of the see-saw ride, and there is no happily ever after once the camera stops filming. It’s just that the writers and directors are clever enough to NOT show us the ever after. Who wants to see it, anyway? It would look too much like our real lives.

Because there is never a time in a relationship where the see saw levels out for more than a short time. That is why they make marriage such a big deal with a CEREMONY and GUESTS and GIFTS and CHURCH. All those extras are there to help keep the balance, to put a little pressure on one end when needed, and a little pressure on the other when needed.
If I could have a do-over, I don’t think I would have gotten married again. Nobody ever promised I would live happily ever after; my parents never had a fulfilling and demonstrative marriage. They did raise 7 kids together, so that’s something. But being married doesn’t automatically make you less lonely, or fulfill some gaping hole in your heart. I wish I could be free and travel and be alone again.

My single friends, othoh, say they would trade places with me. We both are seeing the grass greener, I guess.

          • 2.4.1.1.14 izzie

Guys, sorry for butting in to this conversation, but I just have to say something about this…

“But as far as MARRIAGE, hasn’t that always been (and still is) the man’s choice? He’s the one who chooses to propose (or not), so in that sense, the power truly lies with him, not with the woman.”

I think you’ve forgotten the power of the woman who can either say “yes” or “no” to a man’s proposal. And the power of the woman who can make herself valuable and desirable enough to attract men and make them want to propose. And the power of the woman who can also propose when her man does not.

So who truly has the power?

The way I see it, this can become a chicken-egg debate: which came first, what’s the prerequisite of each decision?

When a man decides whether he will or will not propose, he appears to have the upper hand in the situation because he is the initiator. But let’s look at how the man comes up to the decision – what are the factors that he considers? Surely, one of these factors is whether he is certain if his ladylove is going to agree. So, see, what the woman is to the man influences his decision. Influence is a form of power. It’s just like in business where a company puts the implementation of a project for bidding and other entities vie for the right to do the implementation. The bidding entities have the power to bid, but the company who owns the project also has the power to choose.

Power is about about choices. People, whether male of female, feel helpless when they feel like they don’t have a choice. When things don’t turn out the way we want them to, we say “I don’t have a choice.” So not true. We always have choices. It just happens that more often than not, the options that we have aren’t the options that we like. But whether good or bad, our options are there. We just have to choose the least evil of the options.

Who really has the power? It’s the one who realizes her/his options, able to weigh them out as to which ones she/he can live with, have the “balls” to make a choice, and then stand by that decision even when things turn awry.

And ladies, let’s not forget that as we claim to be able to do what men can do, that men also go through the same emotional dilemmas that we go through. They’re often just to proud or shy to admit it. Believe me, I have a lot of guy friends who had confided in me, cried because of their girlfriends, and asked for advice. It’s unbelievable how what they say are similar to what my female friends rant about.

            Here are some their rants/confessions:

“She sent me off at the airport. I marched into the plane like a robot. As the plane was being pulled to the runway, I wanted to scream and stop it from leaving. I wanted to jump out, run back and stay with her. She has this incredible pull on me.” (Although it wasn’t incredible enough to make him stay, the pull was strong enough to make him feel miserable for days after his arrival in our town.)

“It drives me crazy just thinking whether she’s going to choose this other guy or me.”

“What do I have to do to please her?”

“What do I have to do for her to take me seriously?”

See? Choices. Power. The guys don’t always have control. They can also feel like they’re helpless.

Having said all that, I don’t think relationships’ stability depends on who has the power among the partners, but on their respect for one another. Both parties have their own abilities/powers to do things that can either hurt or please the other. None of them would want to use his/her power against the other if there is respect. But when respect is gone, start your countdown.

I seriously think you need to meet those people around me who still ask when am I going to get married so you could give that perfect explaination to them Jomo ^-^

            Gladly!!

          @Sethe
I don’t like you feeling bad like that. You don’t deserve it. As long as you keep trying, you are doing fine.

One of my favorite unattributed quotes:
Fall seven times. Stand up eight.

It really really is a question of finding happiness within you no matter what your circumstances are, no matter who is with you or not with you. But it hurts, it hurts when the person your brain has decided that you want is not going to be the one for your heart. Been there, done that. Fell in love with Mr. Impossible. Took me, oh, three or four years to heal over that one. Had counseling, and everything.
Funny thing – Dr. Lady told me I had to be the one to STOP wanting Mr. I. I told her she was nuts, that it was my heart talking, “the heart wants what the heart wants” etc. She basically told me I could do whatever I wanted – that I had that much power over my feelings.
That over time, the habit I had of “being in love” was something I had made up from scratch, so I had to be the one to break it, one moment at a time.

I suddenly felt like I was in a movie, not the happy kind, but the Nora Ephron kind. That I was being accused of being in love with being in love. And she was right!

It so sucks to be an adult. Stress, disappointment, failure, not getting what I want, not having what I think I deserve, husband that doesn’t look like CSW at ALL. But if I ddin’t feel that way, I wouldn’t be human.

Ironic that after all that pain and sadness, that I still love being in love with being in love. That is why I watch these dramas. Every time someones heart gets broken because he loves another, my heart breaks again. Every time the OTP reunites, my heart sings with joy again.

It is soooooo nice to come here and talk with people who feel the same way…

          • 2.4.1.3.1 Sethe

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Jomo. That’s why they call you Jomo the Wise ;)

I am definitely the kind of person to be in love with being in love. That’s undoubtedly why I also watch all these dramas (and come here and gush about them), and also why I read so many romance novels. (My secret dream, actually, is to be a romance novelist… I just don’t have the self-discipline or perseverance to actually sit down and do the work of writing.) And I think dramas and novels have kind of spoiled me for real life.

And yeah, I’m also the kind of person to be in love with the idea of being a depressed, screwed-up person. Making the decision to be happy (and I mostly believe, as you suggested, Jomo, that it is a matter of making a decision) would require fundamentally changing who I think I am.

I’ve been feeling particularly low lately, partly because of some REALLY bad choices I’ve recently made, and partly because I think I’m feeling my age… like I’m getting older and pretty soon I’ll just die, and what the hell have I done with my life?

I like being single (so I can be as selfish as I want with my choices ;) ) but it gets lonely sometimes, having no one in my life I can trust to really know me.

Also, Jomo, I thought your husband was TOP? :) Didn’t someone around here claim him?

      • 2.4.2 holly

i’m loving i need romance as well. just finished watching episode 7 and finally glad in-young got rid of sung soo at the end cos both of their attitudes was really frustrating me!!! sung soo cos he keep making excuses and saying he loved her but felt attracted to that other girl and in-young cos she covered her eyes for the most part and he had already cheated on her before!

totally rooting for suk-hyun and in-young as they are so cute together :)

        • 2.4.2.1 yumi

Now that Greatest Love and Baby-Faced Beauty has ended, I Need Romance is my favorite series running.

I love the portrayal of In-Young, Sung-Soo and Jin-Hyuk triangle.

I understand In-Young’s continued attachment to Sung-So, because love doesn’t die in a day or follow logic, or it wouldn’t be love. It is also a reflection of her commitment to their relationship.

I love their portrayal of her berating him and her inability to just let it go because I think it is realistic for many people.

I really hope she end up with Jin Hyuk, but I’m a little concerned that she does not see him as a serious option. Of course it makes sense, because she has always viewed him in a friendly non-romantic way for a year and switching gears, especially when she is still trying to process her relationship with Sung-Soo takes time. But I hope that changes.

I will be very disappointed if it works out with Sung-soo because IMO you can’t forgive someone for cheating on you TWICE. Once, maybe, but not twice, because that would mean that person hurt you deeply in the same way two times without thinking about the damage they were doing to you.

That being said, I find I really like Sung-Soo. I find him flawed in a human way. I wouldn’t date him but I might be his friend.

I’m so happy people are talking about I Need Romance. I think it deserves it own thread.

          so did Baby-Faced Beauty.

          Ah well.

      zgznoona! Hi!

I agree. I’m going to miss CYHMH too. But I’m glad that the glut of dramas has ended. My family has missed me.

Are you going to watch the saturday-sunday replacement Hooray For Love with Lee Tae Sung (from Playful Kiss)?

      • 2.5.1 zgznoona

MPJ, I’m not sure yet. But since Baby-faced ended (I’ll watch Myunh-wol the Spy), Lie to me ended, Best Love ended (Watching YHFFM), CYCMH will end…. I’m between that Hooray and Scent of a woman/ maybe both
I’ll watch fisrt ep. and then decide.

I read the recaps for You’ve Fallen For Me and I like where things are headed :)

By the way, the adorkable Jun Hee the Hamtaro Hamster sings!!! The song is niiiiiiice too.

    • 4.1 ahjummabunny

      happy friday mr. ricky, sir!
I am well, but restless. I’m feeling february to aprilish. You know like there are no good dramas out there. I just can’t get behind the new arrivals.

      • 4.1.1 ricky the royal highness

february to aprilish. LOVE that description, Bunny!

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way last week. What are you currently watching now, then?

        • 4.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

I’m playing catch up. I’ve just seen episode 7 of best love, also watching babyfaced beauty and not watching city hunter, romance town nor miss ripley but reading recaps. I think I’ll start city hunter though. I’m also watching some older dramas ( personal taste) to see I can grow a taste for lee min ho.

Yay! Someone else who’s watching BL! And what’s this I read about a *book ban* at your job?! I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such.

Ask on, mighty asker! I changed my handle b/c, as MJP unnie pointed out a while ago, I was being more share-y than I like to be with my other one. CMR has pictures and personal info and stuff already online, so what’s a little more news? (And someday, when I finally send this book to an agent, get it picked up, sold to a publishing house, and finally on a shelf….I’m hoping you guys will at least borrow it from the library ;) )

          • 4.1.1.1.4 ricky the royal highness

            I’m taking it easy, Bunny.
Only YFFM is on my list currently. I’m still waiting for the July Jamboree to start. For now, I’m just chillin’.

          • 4.1.1.1.5 Viola

            CMRprindle and Viola,

      • 4.1.2 MJP

        ahjummabunny,

I get what you mean, but I just switched over to Tdramas instead. They are less stressful with only one episode per week.

I’m watching Heartstrings and this week it finally got better with episode 4. But that is the only Kdrama of the new ones that I am watching. I might watch Beatutiful Spy with Eric Moon, but that’s it for me.

        • 4.1.2.1 ahjummabunny

Happy weekend. I hope everyone at mjp castle is well. I have a few unfinished tdramas to watch. I’d started calling big star and because of you. they were both very funny and had great promise.

      Happy Friday too, Your Highness!

      Been watching Heartstrings/YFFM too and I’m liking it. :) It’s a nice ingredient to my post-dental-procedure-recovery-mix. ;)

      • 4.2.1 ricky the royal highness

You made me wanna brush my teeth. Again.

How’s your set of chompers? Do they still hurt?

YFFM tug me right there. Near the heart region. It’s the youths as subjects thingy, I think.

        • 4.2.1.1 izzie

They hurt a bit, from time to time. Thanks for asking. :)

Dentist told me that I brush too hard, which should not be because I scratch my teeth in the process. She said to brush lightly but longer.

YFFM… brings back old memories? :) I like that it’s light despite of some drama bits. I particularly loved the father-and-son part in episode 2.

And more coffee scenes please. :)

          - the coffee/kdrama addict

          • 4.2.1.1.1 MJP

            izzie, Happy Friday!

How long before the pain goes away? Are you doing any treatments on your teeth?

I occasionally do fluoride treatments because when I was in my twenties my teeth got real sensitive and the treatments help.

          • 4.2.1.1.2 izzie

            Happy Friday, MJP! :)

The pain’s expected to be gone in a week – actually, I’m getting less of it by the day. I guess it takes time to get the nerves under the tooth settled. After the third day, I stopped taking pain meds. I’d just have to return next week to have ‘em checked, if the nerves were taken out successfully, and then have the roots filled. It’s taking longer than I expected, but I’d have it rather than tooth extraction.

Thanks for the tip. :) That would be very useful coz, me and my friends are planning to have a Korean “food fest” on Sunday – we plan to have lunch and dinner in two different Korean restos. ;)

Teeth may hurt, but that doesn’t stop me from chompin’. ;)

          • 4.2.1.1.3 Viola

Izzieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! *glomp* I am glad you are feeling better! :)

          • 4.2.1.1.4 izzie

            Viola!!! :D

(Before anything else, how’s Siwon?) :)

Thanks! The chompers are getting better, but unfortunately, I caught cold coz of the crazy weather. But I’m okay. :) Nothing’s like having a kdrama marathon to divert my attention from the discomfort.

If you plan to revive your family’s pharmaceutical company, I’d suggest having an anaesthetic drug named “Dokko Jin.” ;) Takes away the pain… leaves you high and floating. Ding dong!

(Okay, concentrate on City Hunter, izzie. Concentrate!) ALT+TAB. ;)

          • 4.2.1.1.5 ricky the royal highness

The father-son scene convinced me to commit to this drama. I love the song they were strumming. Add the heart-wrenching lyrics and I’m a goner. The coffee scene was cute ;)

          • 4.2.1.1.6 MJP

            izzie,

Here’s a *HUG* for you! I’m glad to hear you are healing pretty quickly.

I remember when I got my four wisdom teeth all pulled out at the same time, two were impacted and required stitches. I was in my early twenties, and all alone in a new city/state. Because it bled and bled so much, I thought I was going to die. How childlike I was back then. :-) I called my dad on the phone just to listen to his voice and cried and cried.

          • 4.2.1.1.7 izzie

            *hugs back at ya, MJP!*

aw… sorry to hear about that. I’m glad you made it thru just fine. *sigh* that reminds me of how independent and strong we feel about ourselves, but then feel like a baby when we fall sick or get in trouble while alone. I’ve had my own share of situations like that. Though such situations are unpleasant, they can also be humbling.

    • 4.3 Silver

Loving You’ve Fallen For Me. It’s just so much fun watching it. They are all so pretty and the majority of the interactions between characters are at least lively if not hilarious. I LOVE the fact that Kyu Won is someone who can stand up for herself and doesn’t let people walk all over her. And Yonghwa, he tries, he really does try. And in episode 4, there was stuff going on on his face, there was actual widening of the eyes, actual contracting of the musculature, by Jove, i think… I think… he might have done it! Well, at least partly. :P

But this newfound love of You’ve Fallen For Me is having some strange side effects, as in giving my You’re Beautiful itch a desire to be scratched. I feel a YAB marathon coming up this weeked. *embarrassed look*

      • 4.3.1 ricky the royal highness

I love the interactions between the cast. The rectangular love story is very intriguing to me, maybe ’cause two different age groups are involved.

I’m done with heroines with low self-esteem. They’ll only make me frustrated and I want to pull their hair to knock some sense into their timid self. So it was refreshing when Kyu Won stood up for herself.
Yong Hwa is slowly improving (at least in my opinion), his ‘stillness’ kinda works for me though – I know. It’s weird. Even to me.
I do sincerely hope that his acting improves when he needs to in the future when his character grows. Like maybe when he realizes he’s in love with Kyu Won but he’s got an Broadway Ahjussi as a competitor.

Fingers cross and hope for the best :)

        • 4.3.1.1 Silver

I love the ‘love square’ too, and the fact that it’s comprised of people of different age groups. AND the fact that the ‘members’ are all worthy opponents. Looking at them now, whichever way they chose, it wouldn’t be a ‘second best’ option because they all work. I can actually see a beautiful – if heavy on the melodrama- story between Shin and the older failed ballerina, and a fun, passionate love story of mutual growth between KW and Broadway Ahjussi, I could see the old couple’s romance rekindling and of course, Shin and KW falling madly in love and all the rest. AND then we have what the character chart reveals as a third wheel (or is it fifth), whom I shall deem cute stage fright guy (I am really, REALLY hoping that he will be the one giving KW singing lessons). AND THEN you have little drummer boy and dance chick. So really, I love that they’ve created such compelling and fun characters. If anything, I am a little disappointed that this show is only 16 episodes long, because the characters they’ve created would really be worth exploring over more episodes.

I’m bummed about the ratings though and hope it won’t affect the original concept of the show.

          • 4.3.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

I long ago dismiss the ratings. The only ratings i approve of are those with the Royal stamp of approval. Heh :)

I like most of the characters – really reminded me of my college days.

And I love how the color palette of this drama is so tasteful. I wonder if the director chooses what the characters should wear. It just feels so warm and summery. I love it when they pay attention to details like this.

      • 4.3.2 zgznoona

I’m enjoying YFFM too. I’m not sure how complicated the story is going to get, there are too many unwanted (for me) possibilities.
btw what’s going on with the guy wearing the straw hat, I can;t quite understand why is he wearing it all the time. It’s distracting
        But loving my puppy JH

        • 4.3.2.1 holly

i’m glad i’m not the only one who noticed random guy in straw hat walking around :)

          • 4.3.2.1.1 izzie

I’m suspecting that it’s either Kyu Won’s grandpa or dad.

      • 4.3.3 Jomo

        Silver –
I did meet Coffee in Ep 4, and, sniff, sniff, I was touched I tell you, by his warmth and richness, as you said I would be.

I have many many theories on the genius that YH continues to show every week. He knows how to keep his audience on their toes, searching for his truths despite actual clues or indications on his face.
This led me to think of Sartre’s Being and Nothingness: An Essay on Phenomenological Ontology (French: L’Être et le néant).

I don’t know what the heck that means, but man, isn’t it?

        • 4.3.3.1 Silver

Oh, to be or not to be *pets skull*. I rather like your existentialist take on things, the idea that our hero is seen pondering upon the wonders of existence while trying to reveal/crush naught its mistery.

But I think it might also be considered a forray into interactive post-modernism, wherein the actor deliberately becomes a blank page upon which the audience can attach their own emotions/desires/sensibilities/whatever. Which would also work with the idea of a play whithin a play whithin a play…play… play… echo… echo… :P

          • 4.3.3.1.1 Jomo

            Exactly!
It used to be the school of Drive-In-ism acting, now it is called InFocus-ism.

          • 4.3.3.1.2 YY

Yong Hwa is DELIBERATELY blank; he is the human personification of the phrase ROCK IDOL, and it just shows us viewers what a fine actor he is, that he has delivered in every sense of the word. Lord, I’m crying as I type these lines, so honoured to be a witness to hs full and complete immersion in his role. He lives, breathes ROCK IDOL every sec he’s on screen. I am awed, rendered speechless each time I see his performance. He is one with the landscape, the trees, the gravel, the brick walls. His calm facade, the powerful and mesmerising blankness of his face, the sheer and utter blandness of his emotional scenes, the stillness of his facial muscles, the stiffness of his line delivery – they just stun me into awed silence. What a master! And we’re only at ep 4! Imagine him shedding each human trait with great subtlety with each new ep, to ultimately emerge as pure explosive impenetrable GRANITE, never before seen on korean drama screens!!!!!

          • 4.3.3.1.3 Viola

OMG YY!!! That was sooo funny!!I HAVE missed you!! *GLOMP*

            Granite! LOL!

YY, your depth of knowledge and skill in analysis of YH’s particular genius is amazing! Thank you….I have a big grin on my face as I type this.

            :-)

          • 4.3.3.1.5 izzie

            YY!!! LOL! Oh you…

I almost shot my choco drink onto my computer reading that. :D ROCK IDOL, indeed!

Is that why he’s always juxtaposed to either concrete surroundings or vegetation? Now that you’ve mentioned “rock” and “granite”, I guess he should stop hanging out at that high post at school with an overlooking view of the campus. The vines that have crawled and covered the wall… the look like they mean to cling to him too!

          • 4.3.3.1.6 YY

Indeed, izzie, indeed….how brilliant of you to see the significance of that vines-coffee scene. The unenlightened viewer would very likely miss the significance of this hugely symbolic scene and focus on the coffee cup. Fortunately WE know better! It is the vines that we look at, not the coffee! Yes, yes! You see my point! I knew it! The vines surround him on three sides. Why? To show us that he is indistinguishable from the foliage. BECAUSE HE IS THE FOLIAGE!!!!!

          • 4.3.3.1.7 izzie

“To show us that he is indistinguishable from the foliage.”

Right! So that’s why when once Kyu Won went to deliver his coffee, he was nowhere to be found. He must have blended in with the vines. What a chameleon!

His motto must be, “Feel the drama, wear the drama, BE the drama.” He becomes the drama: subject, musical scoring, props, foreground, background… everything! And when he has successfully done it, no one can take him out of the drama or the entire structure would collapse.

          • 4.3.3.1.8 YY

izzie, I’m laughing so hard at your post now….can’t take this no more…..

        • 4.3.3.2 Viola

Oh Dear GOD!! Jomo and Silver you two crack me up! Nerds of the world unite! :)

          • 4.3.3.2.1 samgetang

Jomo and Silver! You are both soooo funny! Maybe this is the genius of YH….he brings out the philosophical bent in people, hahaha!

        • 4.3.3.3 Silver

And THAT is why this guy always has trouble getting the girl!
I saw this yesterday and it amused me so much that I had to screencap it (but was too lazy to actually post it, we all have our faults). Now maybe the fact that I am shamelessly in love with YAB made it more amusing for me, but even in the show where Yonghwa and Shinhye are supposed to be the couple, look at where the hearts are flying to *grin*

      Happy Friday, yrh!

Is yffm really good? I wasn’t intrigued by the premise, but I haven’t read any of the recaps either. Maybe I should just peak at Ep 1–

No! That way lies current-drama madness (and I’m holding out or something else which isn’t out yet :) )

Anywho, how are you this fine Fri evening (where you are) , yrh?

      • 4.4.1 ricky the royal highness

        Cmr, I’m peachy pink :)

I don’t know it it’s ‘good’ but I know that it ‘touched’ me. I’ll watch and see how it progresses and I’ll tell you if it’s gonna be worth your time.

Ricky TRH!!!! Happy Friday almost Saturday!!!

So, what was it that clinched the deal for you on YFFM/Hearstrings?

Yes, I totally loved that song. He is stealing the show for me.

*Question answered by reading additional comments*

      • 4.5.3 ricky the royal highness

I re-watched episode 2 just to see if I missed anything ( I tend to fast forward now) and it turned out I missed out on the quiet father-son guitar playing scene. It was good even though there wasn’t any dialogue. And the ballad that he sang at the end of the episode was exquisite. I’m a sentimental guy, love my ballads.

        • 4.5.3.1 MJP

          Ricky the royal highness!

spoiler? I loved how in episode 4 he just goes to the hospital to see his dad. (Watched RAW and read recap so could be wrong about the just part, it may have been planned.) But that scene where Shin had a desire to seek out his father, warmed my heart. At first, Shin seemed either reluctant or angry at his father a bit (not a lot) but it was nice to see him seeking that fatherly advice or conversation.

I also enjoyed the scene where the ** corrects all of the girls regarding their bad attitudes. He wasn’t afraid to help them grow even further in their possible future careers by letting them know the truth, “bad behavior won’t get you far.” (My interpretation :-) ) It was cool because he corrected ALL of them.

The funny part, I think, is when they do the love square. That visual scene is so rare in reality. I mean, how often are you going to get four people, staring at each other at the same time, when those four people actually like one of the others. The statistics on that??? I have a feeling they would be pretty high as Korea’s colleges do seem to be very populated. It’s fun to see it onscreen, though. Almost comedic to me, because I find myself internally laughing when I see it.

        • 4.5.3.2 ricky the royal highness

I get what you’re trying to say, MJP. We don’t get scenes like that in real life. And I do am curious about Shin and his father. If he hasn’t been in contact with his father after a long time, then how did he know that the man he met in the hospital was his father? Was it little little bits if overheard information? Snippets of hints dropped by his mom? Hmm, I hope they explore this further before they kill off the father character.

Did you notice that the Broadway Ahjussi has better chemistry with Kyu Won than her with Shin? I smell a Second Male Shipping Syndrome somewhere in the near future. I love it when he put every girl in her position – to make them work harder, ultimately. It feels like what a teacher should do, so it hit home right in my heart :)

And how did you feel about the color palette in this drama? I came across someone who mentioned about the color used in the clothing materials and the scenes in YFFM. And It struck me that yeah, the choice of colors totally works. It feels like looking at a nice art.

Oh BTW I read the recaps for Material Queen. Is it true that the cinematography for it is beautiful? I need to watch it to make sure but I just thought of asking you first. The title is so ‘fitting’ to the heroine, I like it very much. I wasn’t very much invested in the story because at first I thought it was a very cliche story of a materialistic girl discovering love and “what-truly-matters” stuff. However I was intrigued when it was revealed that the guy was only pretending to be rich. Whoa, I really didn’t see that coming!

          • 4.5.3.2.1 MJP

I’ll be back… I’m going to rewatch parts to give you a better answer!!!

            Ricky TRH,

I have been forgetting to put your name on my replies. :-) If you search for your name, like I do, you might miss them.

Okay, with regard to the color palatte on Heartstrings aka YFFM:

It sort of struck me as discordant in the opening scene. PSH was wearing bright red shoes, a lavender dress, a teal and brown backpack all the while carrying a black and white bag and rolling a bright fuschia suitcase. All the other people in the airport were wearing a coricopia of colors jumping into the fray of this visual efficacy of discord. Then she goes to find her entirely clad in olive green grandfather… So, on I search for summery colors…

So I see JYH’s clothing, a bit better in royal blue jacket, white shirt and navy pants. His outfit pops against the lush green landscape. This is good.

Then I see two business men in totally drab suits.

SCU and assistant appear in nice summery colors with complimenting luggage, no clashes here.

Boring sunbae in navy suit and navy/white striped shirt. Not really summery, but passable. However, a very bright white and yellow office behind him brings summery colors to mind.

Nice colors inbetween, PSH dressed in bright clothing. But, what’s this… KMH in a blue denim jumpsuit??? How does one go pee (urinate) whilst wearing that? Especially as I’ve seen some scenes of the Korean toilets in the school systems… If I went to Korea, I don’t know what I would do if I had to use a toilet… I know why the girls wear skirts! *Scratches head* I just can’t figure out what happens with the underwear. And, what if it’s “her time of the month?” Or, it ain’t just pee she has to go? Where is the toilet paper? Where does one put the feminine items requiring disposal? Ah, the really BOLD questions I have after watching Kdramas! But alas, I have gotten totally off the subject after viewing that non-summery jumpsuit.

I do see the splashes of bright colors in the background and for the most part I see it in the color schemes of the clothing. However, (this is a big however) when comparing it with the visuals of Material Queen there is a VAST disparity. Which is a good thing, since the dramas are striving to portray two completely different lifestyles.

So, as far as visuals go, for me, I am more attracted to the monocromatic symmetry of Material Queen than the flamboyant artistic modernism of YFFM/Heartstrings.

            Make sense?

          • 4.5.3.2.5 MJP

            Ricky TRH,

I forgot to answer, but yes, I agree that the Broadway Ahjussi has better chemistry with Kyu Won. Ship away!!!

          • 4.5.3.2.6 ricky the royal highness

I’m deeply touched by the fact that you took your time to write such a loooong post for me. I thank you, sincerely. :)

I figured out how to view the pictures of MQ – gorgeous, to say the least.

As for YFFM, I think the color works. The word “pastel” comes to mind.

I grinned when I read your rant on the toilets in Korea. Your questions definitely made sense to me. Please ask those bold question more frequently in the future so other people can offer their opinions.

I’m sad because I can’t write longer. Time is jealous of me – I have to go get a haircut, go for a jog, and some assignments have yet to be checked.

      Rickyyyyy \o/

      How are you?

I am so proud. I finally did it. I FINALLY DARED TO SHOW OFF THE FEW KOREAN WORDS I KNOW.
First, with a Korean buddy I saw for the first time in ages (nothing can compete with the power of the “oppa”. I experienced it. It’s mental how korean guys melt once you call them ‘oppa’. He spent the rest of the evening patting my head, haha)
Then, at the korean restaurant. They gave me two red bean cakes for the price of one, and when I said kamsahamnida (or however you spell it) they were in awe. Hehe. I LOVE kdramas. So useful i everyday life (of course)

      • 4.7.1 ricky the royal highness

HAHA! Princess, how I missed your presence!

I’m glad that you did it! I saw a Korean when I went for a short vay-kay a few weeks ago but I was too stunned to do anything.

You should never underestimate the power of the word “Oppa”. My sister and friends have used it on me on a number of occasion and I melted like goo. (My wallet went dried too-much to my chagrin)

I have to say that I miss them all along with their discussion on books, coffee recipes, best shampoo, old wuxia movies, etc on open thread, afterall that was open thread all about. It was not as many commenters as now, but i learned alot back then. I hope one day that kind of discussion will return to OT ^^. Happy friday to all.

Best Shampoo: LOL!! anything! BUT i used Macadamia- deep repair masque as my conditioner

Wuxia movies/dramas: I grew up watching TVB dramas. My favourite would have to be ‘Twins of brothers’, ‘Lethal weapons of love and passion’, basically anything with Raymond Lam in it. It haven’t watched any tvb dramas in such a long time though. I should really go back to it, because they really are the best drama makers, in my opinion.

Coffe recipe: PLEASE SHARE! i am an absolute coffee addict!

      • 6.3.1 Viola

I caught up on my reading recently.
        Currently reading/just read:
High Lord’s Fury by Jim Buthcher,
The Soul Mirror by Carol Berg,
        Betrayer by C.J. Cherryh,
Mission of Honor by David Weber,
        Twilight’s Dawn by Anne Bishop,
        Unnatural Issue by Mercedes Lackey,
River Marked by Patricia Briggs and
Omnitopia by Diana Duane. I really really liked Omnitopia, but all these books are very well written and are good! :)

Best Shampoo: Anything by Aubrey Organics, but I am partial to their “Honeysuckle Rose” one. The scent is wonderful :)

As for Wuxia… does House of Flying Daggers count? It is my all time favorite of any genre. No other movie conforms so perfectly to my aesthetic sensibilities. :)

        • 6.3.1.1 cmrprindle

          Soooo belated…

Viola dear, how is The Soul Mirror by Carol Berg? And are you enjoying Patricia Briggs’ book? I do so like the new series.

    • 6.4 pipit

I love wuxia! My favourites are Mulan and Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre. But I have to say I don’t really like Zhang Wu Ji’s character. I hate how he sways this way and that way! Zhao Min is way too good for him.
I have all of its versions and been wondering if there’s a new one.

    • 6.5 girlfriday

Shampoo: Am currently on a kick with a pomegranate flavored one, that I swear smells more like pink grapefruit.

Wuxia: Have actually been in the mood to watch a few old ones ever since I started watching Warrior Baek Dong-soo. The ones I can think of that I’d like to rewatch:

      The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
      A Touch of Zen
      The One-Armed Swordsman

Oh, and Shaolin Challenges Ninja — that one’s like a wuxia version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. (Chinese shaolin master marries Japanese ninja wife, they battle out their differences via martial arts over the breakfast table.)

      • 6.5.1 entertained

the last one sounds entertaining. how old are we talking? does it have colors already?

shaolin vs ninja. hhhhmmmm, i am getting a alien vs predator vibe.

somebody get on the remake stat!

      bleu,

Hello. With regard to where all the old ot’rs could be, I have a theory: As life is cyclical, they may be in a different cycle of life than what they were before. Just take a look at past OT comments from one of the previous writers. That person gained a family and had to go cold turkey (stopped doing everything, DB, OT, and dramas due to “life events.”

I hope that no matter who is on the DB OT, continue to feel confident to “speak up”, make suggestions and be open to making some new friends!

      • 6.7.1 bleu

        “As life is cyclical…”

Yeah, I figure that much. Still, every time I see OT I kinda miss seeing names that I recognize talking about fun stuff besides our(that incl me) obsession on kdrama.

I have to say though, it’s not confident that I lack, I simply have nothing to say/add ^^

        • 6.7.1.1 MJP

          Bleu,

Well, I believe in you, that you do have something to say. It may be that you are more comfortable talking in person than writing. But I have yet to meet a person, in person, who doesn’t have something to say!

So, I will strive to think of something that may be interesting to say for the next OT. Okay?

What types of things do you like to read about? Should I just guess?

          • 6.7.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

aww ms. mjp you are the tops!

I’m just shameless I guess. Although my work is high volume there is a lot of downtime and there is a book ban so I watch tv/dramas and troll dramabeans.

“Also, does Dad love Kyung Hee? Somehow I can’t believe it because Dad doesn’t love anyone!!!”

I think Bad Dad has feelings for Kyung Hee. It could be that he loves her, only he loves himself more, and by far.

      - he can’t physically hurt her.
      - somehow her image survived his tearing their group pic.
      - apart from the group pic, he keeps a solo pic of her. (what’s that about, really?)

My fear/suspicion is… could it be that Bad Dad is YS’ Biological Dad? So Darth Vader!

Bad Dad: “YS, I am your father.”
YS: “That’s it! I’ve had enough!” (shoots self)

      HAHA!

      Ding Dong~

      • 8.1.1 ahjummabunny

I just said ding dong and laughed out loud at my desk. Why is that phrase so hilarious!

        • 8.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

I have no idea. Instead of saying “you’re correct”, I suddenly develop a habit of saying “ding dong” to my students. It produced more than one frown and weird glances from them. The teacher has suddenly gone muy loco.

The books looks in when interesting. I’ll look for it next time I’ll go to the library. I find myself borrowing less and less books now. I’m waaaay too busy for my personal liking. And I prefer short stories compilation now – borrowed one edited by Neil Gaiman And Al Sarantino last week. It’s easier to finish because I can close the book when one story finishes.

I love that Cha Seung Won and Gong Hyo Jin won a couple of awards. Although, I do wonder how he felt about being chosen as having an award-winning body, because I heard he’s a loner in “real-life.”

Also, I read this week that Gong Hyo Jin and her boyfriend were given the title of the couple to never part for being on again/off again for ??? years. I am surprised because Cha Seung Won has been married for like what 22 years? And there are other couples who have probably been together or married for longer than Gong Hyo Jin and her boyfriend.

  8. samsooki

Watching a few k-dramas this past few weeks, and I got to thinking about how certain premises are never really questioned, they are just accepted.

Among the chief premises that gets a pass from k-drama viewers is this idea that the upper crust of korean society, however you define it, is inviolate. Obviously, this is a cultural thing, passed down for thousands of years – not just in a Confucian mode of thinking but also in a strictly Korean mode.

You see it every k-drama, every time a rich mother-in-law is forced to be in the same presence as a poor potential daughter-in-law to be, or worse, the poor potential daughter-in-law’s mom. Then you have the most awkward of situations, where two woman, both mothers trying to protect their child, are forced to deal with the ugly reality of classism and the gulf that divides not only two love-struck kids, but two older women who by stroke of fate or chance find themselves so very unequal.

I wonder whether these k-dramas merely reflect Korean culture as it is or has been (i.e., in sagueks), or whether k-dramas (intentionally or not) actually perpetuate / encourage / ratify such antediluvian notions.

Case in point. The samsooki family made its regular trip to an H-Mart and in the cafeteria section (looooooooove the cafeteria section), there were a bunch of flat screens playing various things like sports, dance dance videos etc. But one TV had a k-drama on and a bunch of ppl were watching. Natch, I roamed over to see what they were seeing. And it was a scene from some older-ish drama where a rich family was sort of putting down the poor heroine of no particular family or education, and one of the TV watching ahjummas says in Korean to her friend (rough translation): ‘That makes no sense, that gijibae has lost her mind if she thinks she can be accepted into that family.’ To which comment, heads were nodded in silent assent. To which comment, I wanted to say, ‘and with that kind of attitude, you perpetuate your own unconcious bias” but I said nothing because (1) nobody asked me, and (2) my korean is good for listening but not for impromptu oral defenses of a more egalitarian society.

    Just putting it out there.

    Happy friday everyone!

Bora lives, KJH is mine, etc. =D

    • 9.1 ahjummabunny

I think it is passed down from “sageuk” times. I think in some dramas they even make remarks about clans and so on. I don’t believe in egalitarian societies in practice.

    • 9.2 Sethe

Well… I’ll just spit out some thoughts here. I know that not everyone who posts here is American (or hyphenated American) but it certainly seems that a lot of people are.

So, I went to college with a lot of people from the, sort of, name-brand families in the US. There were certainly exceptions, but there were also many students with an extreme awareness of economic status and “class.” One of my roommates, for example (a debutante from the South — I had no idea such things still existed) was perfectly willing to date a certain rich guy, but at the same time denigrated him as being “new money” when her family was “old money.”

My point, so much as I have one, is that classist attitudes still exist in certain circles in the US, and those circles may not be that different from those portrayed in k-dramas.

I certainly don’t mean to be making (or implying) any judgments here, but I’m curious to know about other people’s experiences with such attitudes (in the US or elsewhere).

      • 9.2.1 IzOcha

Hmmm (for context: I’m an American girl) …I was listening to NPR (years ago) and they were talking about classism vs racism. They stated that the English talk about non equality in terms of class, while Americans talk about it in terms of race (as if all a demographic fits into the same box (fah))….on the other hand I read a lot about mate selection (biological/ sociological) and its pointed out that the stronger/wealthier male is selected for b/c its likely he will have better resources for raising of the young (and likely passed to the young…and that’s entirely dependent on which species considers valuable. So in humans females select for child rearing vs a good time, or in other terms bread winner vs. warrior, respectively (based on monthly cycle). Plus like a million other subconscious signals used for genetic selection are also used. This means that wealthier men and ambitious men are found appealing because they appear to be able to supply the, oh sigh, bacon, I guess.
There are many more measures based on personality and compatibility that are used if you are thinking about a friend, lover and co-child rearer. The blurring of the male/ female roles is really whats making modern love so hard-b/c when matters were about politics and dowry then you were not necessarily also expected to spend time together (Sageuks, ladies in waiting, men at arms-children raised by tutors) or you died young. So if a poor girl gets a rich man who acknowledges her its a huge coup b/c she likely increased the survivorship of her genes twenty fold. And even a unacknowledged child might have superior genes if the wealthy people have been breeding for vigor.

        • 9.2.1.1 IzOcha

I hmmmmmed twice. haha. According to these uncited texts men select for women who they find attractive, and will protect their resources, and therefore the time and effort that they have put into the union and child rearing. If they are not satisfied and unattached to their mate through genuine feelings, they leave one way or another…so hence our longing for true love (the kind that lasts forever and ever). Plus, true love is an excellent long term hormonal cocktail.

PS Petting/ playing beloved animals gives a similar rush, for you and the pet.

          • 9.2.1.1.1 Sethe

Yeah, I think that’s kind of my point, that according to sociobiological thinking, men have no incentive to settle down with (i.e., marry, in today’s terms) one woman, when they could spread their seed (and perpetuate their genes, blah blah blah) much more easily by banging a different woman every night (or more, if they’re not lazy…).

If taking care of offspring is really difficult with only a female parent, then it’d be in the interest of the male to help provide, but that’s not the prevailing view these days…

        • 9.2.1.2 holly

i’m english and i must say that we do obsess about class more than race. class is a big deal for most people and you don’t tend to mix between them much. they tend to stick to their own groups. i suppose a big indicator of class is which school and which university you go to. money doesn’t always indicate class and neither does merit. tend to rely on connections, either through family or school. we have a growing number of people trying to move up the class ladder and they mostly do that through their children – education at better schools etc.

          • 9.2.1.2.1 Sethe

Y’know, I spent a summer in London (long ago) and the people I lived with kept referring to the landlady as “common,” and, yeah, I get the gist of it, but I still don’t think my American brain really understands everything that means.

      • 9.2.2 IzOcha

        @Sethe, in response:

“I certainly don’t mean to be making (or implying) any judgments here, but I’m curious to know about other people’s experiences with such attitudes (in the US or elsewhere).”:

        My grandmother had two girls:
My mom married for love to someone in a similar social demographic as her father. Her mom was anti- my dad b/c he had seasonal and market based work. They eloped and she acquiesced, but had really wanted mom to have a man with a stable, less punctuated income. Mom was always the consistent breadwinner in the house. We are well to do but not wealthy. 40+ years later still going.
My aunt married a doctor and surgeon (who happens to be from a different culture). Expectations and living seem more difficult from our point of view, because she married up, did not have her own career, greater problems with kids, but still 40+ years in, still going….

“no incentive to settle down with (i.e., marry, in today’s terms) one woman, when they could spread their seed (and perpetuate their genes, blah blah blah) much more easily by banging a different woman every night (or more, if they’re not lazy…).”

I think its wrong to conclude that men don’t want a stable relationship and children just because they choose differently from women. Women and men are equally fickle, in biological terms. Otherwise terms like adulterer/ess, philanderer and cuckold would not exist. The amount of aggression, jealousy and possessiveness will differ person to person. Just as can happiness. If you are happy and content, do you choose something else even if you are sometimes bored?

        • 9.2.2.1 IzOcha

I meant if you are overall happy and content at your job (with your friends, house, or car), do you change your job (etc.) just because you are sometimes bored? IF you are bored all the time, feel disgust and anger all the time different story, sure, but occasional twinges? Are you aggressive and wealthy enough to go buy a new one? Do you just rent? Is it worth the time and effort to do that or would there be something less expensive/ risky to do? Is all about the values, actions and decisions that one has or makes. (BTW, I did jump off bridges with everyone else (and it was fun, until it wasn’t)).

    • 9.3 IzOcha

Hmmm I can’t speak for Korean cultural mores but, it seems the fairy tale Cinderella/ Pygmalion is a very common conflict, and a simple protagonist story arc. If you are dealing with reality how would someone who is neither wealthy (therefore not a commodity), nor educated (able to become more than the sum of parts), actually be comfortable in a home if one needs more than looks to fit into its structure? Egalitarian societies require the education of the population, combined with both a rugged individualism (for growth) and willingness to share resources (b/c one should not have to choose which being is the most valuable)…which make them a bit utopian :( That being said I’m in favor of people being able to go beyond their labels, and education yourself is part of being a rugged individual, as sharing resources is part of being civilized (its always levels)…Great topic. Thanks, samsooki.

      • 9.3.1 samsooki

        Excellent thoughts.

I guess there are two separate ideas here.

        1. Merit-based classism – this is the engine that drives many Koreans (in Korea and around the world; and not just Koreans). The general idea is that we are defined by how hard we work and what we accomplish. We then reap what we sow, deservedly, as we have earned what we get. Those who have not, get not, and an integral cog in this type of classism is that by our fruits we are able to separate wheat from chaff. Merit-based segregation, to be blunt.

        2. Individuals vs. Groups. The problem is that merit-based classism works only if people are atomistic, and not grouped into families. i.e., if YOU worked hard, then YOU (and you alone) deserve status, not your wife, not your kids, not your relatives. Of course, it doesn’t work this way and so merit-based classism breaks down within a single generation. There is no such thing as merit-based classism, as within 2 generations, it becomes just classism.

        ***

My point here is that k-dramas focus on the individual conflict that arises due to these two ideas, usually applying some sort of rich-poor-rich (or poor-rich-poor) love triangle or mistaken identity or amnesia or whatever.

But the underlying premise is not explored, and I wonder whether k-dramas are helping perpetuate classism or just reflecting what already is and cannot be changed?

        • 9.3.1.1 IzOcha

Samsooki, classism is with us, but I think social needs are changing, as above rant about mate selection kind of alludes. BUT it’s really a plot device to see people fall in love (infatuation?) and have the HOPE of true love. And I doubt this will change due to time restraints and stories needing to be understood on an archetypal level, for the most part. Once the idea of egalitarianism between individuals and groups gets sunk into the collective subconscious I think the stories will change a bit–b/c there are so many ways to fall in love (or out)….so stay tuned, the bat channel could change anytime, depending on what people want to see (and how polar the writers want to make the conflict, of course).

      • 9.3.2 Venus

        Happy Friday to all!!!… :D :D

Actually this is a great topic from a sociological point of view and to talk about the social latter in differenct socities. I belive personally that some socities are more open for social movement within their means, however, others not so much. Asian socities in some ways or another still got some type of cast systems, in which the elite is the elite and in order for someone to move up in the social latter needs to have the family connections. However, now days with globolizations socities are becoming more open and individuals are seeking better educational and work opportunities, cause really the key for social movement is education in today’s world. If the individual doesn’t have some level of education, the person won’t be able to better themselves. Therefore, countries are pushing foward and facilitating those educational opportunities to the people. I think social classes are always going to exist no matter what happens, cause to me it really boils down to culture and government. Total personal opinion here.

    • 9.4 So3

I would say this is not only a K-drama thing.

TW and HK dramas are still filled with plots that are associated with “different classes” of a society. Plots like a woman of humble background being married to a rich family, are destined to be humbled thoughout her life (however, this only applied to the “past tense” of the story, i.e. angst will be created with an unhappy married wife. The “future tense”, likely the heroine of a drama, on the other hand, has a much more promising prospects. like how she suddenly helps eliminate the bias on “class” in a family who has believed in this value system for decades)

What’s more ridiculous is that newspaper would actually leave a headline page for news like a certain model getting married to one of the richest families of the region. It only means this is part of the culture that’s so deep-rooted that a lot of the audience actually respond positively (?) to similar plots. I would say this is the most pathetic part.

Japanese doramas, to the extent of the ones that I’ve watched, are not so obsessed with different classes of a society, as they have developed a culture that emphasizes on homogeneity (i.e. people who are “different” would be biased against. the “difference” can be in terms of daily trivials like ordering the same lunch set to not doing the same thing as other colleagues at the workplace.)

Perhaps I’m over-simplifying in making such conclusion, but the abovementioned regions basically don’t embrace differences (or I should say, this is not encouraged from an education standpoint), whether it being social status, wealth, behaviors etc.

    • 9.5 asianromance

I wonder if kdramas are trying to encourage people to rethink such notions of class…in the end, doesn’t true love win out? And aren’t half our plucky kdrama heroines poor with barely 10 bucks in their bank accounts?

I’m surprised one of the tv ahjummas was like “that makes no sense”. She must not have watched many kdramas!

I think such classist thinking is prevalent in all societies, but the koreans have no shame in owning them. In the US, I feel like it may be politically incorrect to depict and perpetuate class differences as they affect people on the social and personal level. Isn’t that why most Americans claim to be middle-class when the the reality is very different?

I graduated from a college that was attended by a lot of folks from wealthy backgrounds and there are quite a few of us poor folks too, but you never really hear of it or of any meaningful discussions of class and race outside of the classroom (even within the classroom, we try not to get in too deep), because the campus is dominated by politically correct voices.

      • 9.5.1 samsooki

“[i]I wonder if kdramas are trying to encourage people to rethink such notions of class…in the end, doesn’t true love win out? And aren’t half our plucky kdrama heroines poor with barely 10 bucks in their bank accounts?[/i]”

I used to think that way, like k-dramas had insidious fairy-tale morals that whisper “see, it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor…”

But, there is another under-tone, and you sort of have to be in tune with the culture to pick up on it. The undertone is the depiction of the universe as set in the k-drama.

        Here’s what I mean.

In the 2010 drama, Lie To Me, the prodigal younger brother slyly appears at a dinner with his older brother and aunt, and the Auntie scolds him for not calling or anything for three years. She sort of beats on him a little bit, and the prodigal nephew accepts it with a light heart.

The viewing audience will see that and tacitly approve without even being aware, because the prodigal nephew was in the wrong for disappearing for three years without any communication, and the surrogate mom / Auntie had every right to start slapping around her long lost ward. Every Korean mom watching at home will see the Aunt and feel a community there, and feel ratified because the Aunt’s behavior is in harmony with the Korean mom’s understanding of how a mother-son relationship should be – plenty of kicking and then back of the head-slapping, plenty of beating down the son with a $4,000+ hand bag.

        ***

Now, take a look at the rich mother-in-law scene with the poor potential daughter-in-law. HOW the mother-in-law acts toward the poor potential daughter-in-law is the undertone that people take for granted.

It is expected and it ratifies behavior even if people don’t think about it.

So it doesn’t really matter if the poor girl “wins” in the end. [strong]The fact that she had to “win” at all is what is at issue for me.[/strong]

        • 9.5.1.1 ahjummabunny

okay I don’t know if I was raised by aliens or what but there’s sort of a strange idea in my head ( I think it’s from my parents) that tv nor books shouldn’t be an instruction manual for life. I know you don’t mean that people are watching tv and thinking okay that’s how I should live and this is all happening unconsciously, but don’t people watch these things to just be entertained?

          • 9.5.1.1.1 samsooki

            Well, there’s that.

But television has long since been a surrogate baby-sitter as well as other things, like a cultural barometer and cultural model.

This is, of course, why the NAACP today is crying foul over the fact that there are few, if any, CNN anchors of African descent on prime time. The NAACP strongly believes in the notion that cultural visibility helps reduce racism (although I would argue that much of what is is offset by negative imagery also propagated on the same airwaves by African American pop culture).

And, certainly, television allows people to come to grips with things that may not be first accepted if it were to happen in real life.

For example, before President Obama was elected in 2008, you had Dennis Haysbert as President Palmer on the hit television series, 24, as well as Morgan Freeman as President Beck in the Hollywood movie, Deep Impact. The impact (as it were) of these castings is debatable, but certainly something to note.

(the counter, of course, is that you hardly ever seen an Asian American male playing a doctor’s role on television medical dramas, Daniel Henney notwithstanding…. yet the number of asian male pre-meds would probably belie that…)

          • 9.5.1.1.2 IzOcha

            Ahjummabunny,

Does this mean you haven’t been setting up catapults to launch rocks at rapidly moving targets? Looking back, I kinda wish I had spent part of my childhood doing that, but I thought the cartoons were just entertainment :( Fortunately, I now know I can have a mini trebuchet if I just build it :) Should it have a rabbit shaped motif, I wonder?

          • 9.5.1.1.3 Viola

Bunny, you raise a very popular point of view.
But self identity, culture, history, and what have you are at its roots, stories we tell ourselves about ourselves.
It’s all about stories. Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth explores this very well.

And dramas, are at essence archetypical stories, and they are not only a part of the cultural narrative, I would argue that to some extent they shape it.

For example: take the story of George Washington and the cherry tree. It is almost certainly a fabrication, but every school children knows it, and it has become a part of the American identity and its mythos.
The values the story teaches, may not always be practiced, but it is nonetheless internalized, and defines, the behavior of a “good American” boy.

          • 9.5.1.1.4 ahjummabunny

            @samsooki,
I should say, that I didn’t watch tv during my formative years my parents were readers so I read and those books have definitely influenced the person I am today. I don’t know if it is easier to question societal norms and posit utopia in books than on film. I read victorian fiction and the bible as a young girl. we didn’t have a regular tv until I was 12 and by that time I’d already become ruined.

            @izOcha,
bunny motif isn’t really as attractive as you think.

          • 9.5.1.1.5 splgt001

I was watched a South Indian movie this past week based on some reviews that I read about a certain actor and his movie career.

3/4 of the movie had the ‘hero’ killing off people. After watching the first 30mins, I was like, what the heck…..The actor plays a cop who is given orders to take down the ‘mafia’. He goes around killing these men, sort of like shoot at sight, with no records of ever capturing them, questioning them, not even taking the dead bodies to the morgue. Just kill and leave them there. This movie went on to be a ‘super-hit’.

I then went back to the reviews, and looked up a newer movie. It said that the movie was ‘utter flop’….. when I read further, the reason for the ‘flop’ was not enough ‘action scenes’??!! As in not enough killing going on?

So, do the masses just watch the movies that have the ‘hero’ crossing off all the targets on his hit list?! And if the movie deviates and decides to have a little lesson incorporated, little less action scenes – no one wants to watch it?

I had this discussion with one of my friends last week about how TV is “surrogate baby-sitter” (borrowing samsooki’s words) and kids do in-fact group up wanting to join the so called gangs and whatnot because all the things they learn from the movies. She in turn told me that movies are for people to get away from reality. They are for entertainment. That the masses want to forget the harsh reality and watch movies where a single hero goes around making radical changes.

While I do agree with her on those statements, does making radical changes include promoting violence at that extreme. Can one only true bring change and take down corruption by killing off the ‘bad guys’? So if they are killing and you are killing back, who is still doing the right thing?

I grew up watching lots of HK movies that had the triads etc. But they also had other movies, that people actually went to and watched.

I think I lost my train of thought. I just didn’t know why this one SI movie bothered me so much…..

            sorry for rambling on….

        • 9.5.1.2 asianromance

that is really good food for thought! You also mentioned the word, fairy-tale. Now, I also wonder if dramas making such a fairy-tale of the struggle of the poor girl winning against the rich folks is also saying “this is only a fairy tale” and the heroine’s audacity at trying to aspire to a man at a higher socio-economic status should not be emulated outside the confines of the drama.

Hi samsooki! (just a shout-out from an old City-Haller)

    • 9.7 MJP

      samsooki,

      Hello.

The core issue, which is social status, is not just in Korean culture. It is so integrated into each society because money is a basis on which our world revolves.

    • 9.8 Jomo

I am a middle class US born person.

The chaebol prince’s bride in a K-drama seems to be as important to his family as any royal family’s is – past and present.

You mention the goal is to stay within a class, I think of it as protecting their land. Isn’t it economics?

Watching BOF, it seemed reasonable to me that JP should marry JK. HE SHOULD HAVE MARRIED HER, as they were actually a better couple, but I digress…

I don’t know how Korean society views and then internalizes these dramas. Do I think they think chaebols like our Kdrama men are real?
I think that millionaires’ sons are way too busy for the types of romances we see, and I expect most Koreans know what they see on TV is pure fantasy.
A kid who goes overseas to study business at Harvard can’t be sitting around with his 3 good looking buddies playing video games and darts, can he?

The true children of rich folks have to work to keep up with all the expectations their families place on them.
In the US, if the kids are rich, I expect two things either: 1) They are working hard at trying to keep up. (2) They are working hard at drinking, drugs and spending all their parents’ money.

Someone mentioned that where you go to college separates rich from poor. I will add that the fraternities and sororities further that divide. Birds of feather flock together on college campuses. Can a poor person break into the tigh-knit rich group of friends? Not unless he finds a cash supply to be able to afford the next $150. round at a club, or the $4,000. Christmas vacation in Hawaii.

If the rich person wants to throw off the rich lifestyle, he or she can hang out with poorer friends where poor people hang out. Not Upper West Side, not Georgetown or 90210.

Coffee recipe? All I know is to grind up two hazelnuts with your coffee beans to make real hazelnut coffee with cream.

Really enjoying City Hunter. Good writing, good direction, good acting. Impressed.

Don’t really know what to choose after it is done. May just watch the drama following in its place.

    • 10.1 bananabee

I don’t know which drama to watch after City Hunter either, to be honest. I’ve started Heartstrings but it’s alright so far… not really my genre.
Maybe you could go back and revisit some of the classics?

  10. 11 IzOcha

Happy OT Friday! Hope you are having a great day, everyone :)

    • 11.1 IzOcha

I’ve been away from the internet (and cell phone) service for about two weeks–and I have less energy to watch b/c of circumstances (busy busy busy). Therefore, thank god for DB! Okay so, with that said-I have plans for marathoning Best Love and City Hunter in late August. I kept up with both of them until about ep. 12 each. BUT oh holy cats, they are seriously great. I started You’ve fallen for me last night and so far it also seems to be hitting very good beats in timing and ahhhhhhhh! Too many amazing shows. My family will miss me :( Maybe I will just stay two months behind from here on in? Good thing I’m rather sanguine w/ spoilers, eh? I haven’t even read the 1N2D eps reviews for the last few weeks (And they make Monday after work sooo much better). I’ve looked to watch 1N2D though…no luck…Where can I find (dubbed if possible) episodes? Thanks!

  11. 12 Autumn

I’ve decided to try Lie to Me this week and surprisingly, it wasn’t as terrible as people made it out to be, then again, I’ve only watched four episodes, and other people probably had higher expectations than I did. Personally, I don’t hate it but I do find it kinda dull. Illogical narratives and contrived conflicts usually aren’t problems for me if I’m at least invested in the main characters. Sadly, I find none of the characters in Lie to Me appealing, and the OTP isn’t doing much for me either, consequently everything just seems so uninteresting and bland.

Heartstrings is all kinds of wonderful, it just makes me happy and giddy and warm. So glad that I’m actually rooting for a couple that will end up together this time, I thought I’d never get rid off the second-lead-love curse. Shin needs to realise his love for GW quick, and when that happens, I hope she will make him suffer for all the heartbreaks and nuisance he brought to her, and then I want a lot of OTP moments and music duets and music battles and …yeah, i’m a lil obsessed right now.

    Have a happy friday everyone.

    • 12.1 IzOcha

      Autumn,
I think you summed up my emotional response to both dramas perfectly. I haven’t started shipping with the OTP yet. I would love to see the magical guy with stage fright win everyone hearts and minds, though. Plus they made his voice (if really singing oh wow) sound great with the traditional music…so that means I’m in love w/ Ki-young right now. I hope his story arc is delicious brain candy (please, drama gods).

  12. 13 Saima

So, today I have a special agenda on OT Friday: to gush and fawn over Jae Hee. I’ve been a K-drama addict/regular watcher (?!) -whatchaa you may call it- for over 10 months and my friend had literally been hounding me to watch DGCH. But, for some reason or the other I kept postponing it and with Jae Hee being in the limelight recently for taking up a new show and then dropping it due to suffering injuries I figured it was he who starred in the show….in my defense he looked quite different in DGCH and he did have a different albeit lovely profile in the pix featured in the said articles on DB!

So, finally I watched Delightful Girl Choon-hyang!!

    Ohhh.Emmm.Geee!!

*Let’s observe a moment of silence so that I can compose my incoherent spaztastic thoughts!!*

Here goes: I’ve been impressed with many K-drama actors but JH definitely takes the cake!! He was sooo bloody good as MR!! O__O…..how could one go from being charmingly mischievous to uplift CH’s spirits to heartbreakingly sad in the next w/o hamming it up is beyond me!! And, why aren’t K-drama filmmakers lapping up this fantastic actor w/ amazing scripts?! Besides the fact that he is injured currently how come his return to the small screen after finishing up with MS was delayed!! booo…I wish an actor of his calibre would receive his due…..perhaps he should hire the agency/management that handles Hyun Bin’s work!! What say?!!

Oh, and thanx M. for being annoyingly persistent to watch this showww!! *Saranghae yo* heh

    • 13.1 mems

WORD – on everything you said about Jae Hee. My top kdrama crush. Guy’s got oodles of talent, and although he’s injured, it makes me sad that no one’s “lapping it up”, as you put it.

Good to know your root canal went well….

      Happy Friday!

      • 14.6.1 izzie

        hey samgetang!!! :)

the rain’s not stopping no? even if I wanted to, I couldn’t go out. the thought of going around in a wet environment just gives me the thought of discomfort. it’s a good thing, though, that this Saturday is set for drama marathon. :) although tomorrow (I hope it doesn’t rain much) I’d be out on a Korean food frenzy with friends. :)

sorry to hear about your kitchen. girl, that’s a lot of work, tidying up. good luck to you! I’m sending the Dokko Jin to help you with the chores. ;)

yeah, the dental procedure went well and I’m glad I had it done coz the dentist told me that it was just in time before the problem progressed to a stage that would’ve made the root canal a lot painful. (whew!)

        Happy Weekend!

        • 14.6.1.1 samgetang

wow! that’s perfect timing for you! great to know that you did not have to go through a painful root canal treatment.

korean food frenzy? that’s definitely yummy. that would provide some good exercise to your chompers after that intensive treatment. dont chew the bulgogi too much, okay? :-)

yeah! thanks for letting Dokko Jin help me with the chores…I had the best cleaning time ever! haha! but he kept saying “ding dong” when i got the right answer to his questions, it made me want to open the door to see if someone is behind it…so, i sent him off and told him to bring the real “ding dong” over so we can have some pororo time later. cant wait ;-) i miss the kid…

  15. 16 asianromance

Happy Friday! I had sleep paralysis earlier this week and got freaked out, so I’ve only been sleeping when I’m too tired to be scared. Rationally, I know there is a scientific, medical explanation. But irrationally, I’m thinking: evil spirits! ghosts! Finally got my first decent night’s sleep yesterday night.

I also would like to thank raydeeohh for his/her recommendation of White Christmas. Loved the drama! It really was like a j-drama. I should definitely check out more drama specials- they seem to have more interesting and less formulaic storylines. I can’t believe most of the actors in WC were pretty much rookies. They did an awesome job in this drama. I fell in love with Sung Joon. I didn’t care for him in Lie to Me. Sometimes even disliked him. Watched him in White Christmas and totally saw his appeal. I wish he would take on younger roles.

    • 16.1 cmrprindle

I’m so sorry to hear about your sleep paralysis, asianromance. That sounds horribly scary! Can’t blame you for freaking out. Will you be able to have it checked out by a doc?

*hugs* I am so sorry about the sleep paralysis thing!! It sounds scary!! :(

    • 16.3 ricky the royal highness

There’s a weird superstition regarding sleep paralysis in my family.
I first experienced it when I was 14/15 and I told my mother. Before long the whole extended family knew and started sharing stories about sleep paralysis in the royal family.
Apparently it happened to every boys in our family who are going to be ‘men’ and it happened because of a perverted female spirit who is eye-ing your new found manhood.

I burst into laughter when I heard this and my grandma whacked my 14 year old head! I swear I’m not making this up.

      • 16.3.1 ahjummabunny

soo in the royal family succubus come to welcome you to maturity? the instances I know of sleep paralysis are cause for alarm and not because of evil spirits.

My biological mind believe as such. It never happened again though so don’t you worry, Bunny. I’m interested to see the next Occurrence. I just have to wait for my 7 year old cousin to undergo puberty. Yep, we lack guys in our extended family.

  16. 17 Justine

Happy Friday, everyone! Though there’s only an hour left till Saturday for me. :)

Right now, I’m watching Heartstrings (hehehe Min Hyuk). I really want to start City Hunter soon but I don’t have the time to obsess over it! So maybe during my break.

And based on GF’s recommendation, I’ve started watching Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy. It’s so adorable! I love everyone (ahem, Gong Yoo) on there. But one thing though, can someone PLEASE explain the title to me?

    • 17.1 Viola

Happy Saturday to you then!! :P

    • 17.2 ahjummabunny

happy saturday. that is a strange title. every time I see it I think of our jokes at age 12. In guyana crackers are known as biscuits and girls without “front loading” as biscuit chests. star candy makes me think of starfish. now it is unlikely that the story is about a flat chested teacher and someone who is a starfish.

  17. 18 ck1Oz

Hello I just stopped by to say hi.

I’ve been so busy that it’s a funny feeling having nothing to do but just watch KD.

I marathoned through LTM again. Finally caught the Drunken to love you bug.How great is Joseph Chang as a husband?I am in love with Jie Xiu as a guy.

Then trying to get back to City Hunter and start Heartstrings. Then last week for CYHMH.I cannot believe it’s been 4 months since I first started watching it.Cha Dong Joo is going to hold a special spot as a K leading man.He has been so sweet.

Then freedom for 2 whole weeks until Scent of a woman starts.Yay!!!!!

How do you guys do it?I mean just watch one drama after another? How many series can you watch per week? I discovered I can manage about 4 max.

You may not believe it but it’s absolutely bizzare just watching.I feel like I should be subbing, editing or uploading or doing something.Like I’ve forgotten how to marathon a drama even.

Really. How do you guys just marathon a series in a weekend?

    • 18.1 ahjummabunny

I think the most I’ve ever watched simultaneously is 5. How many have I finished in a week? I watched 130 ( 2 different dramas ) episodes in one week once. while working I’ve finished 3 dramas in a week.

    • 18.2 izzie

“How do you guys just marathon a series in a weekend?”

      you need:
      - adequate food supply (sandwiches, choco drinks, popcorn, soda, water, choco bars…)
      - a room to occupy on your own (or if housemates do not mind the kdramas, Yay!)
      - adequate sleep before the marathon. 6-8 hours of sleep because you’d forget to even take a nap in between episodes.
      - do errands on weekdays
      - a pillow… to hug, to punch, to lie on, to cover your eyes… the works ;)
      - understanding family members, if they’re not kdrama addicts yet

some peeps skip scenes that bore them, so that speeds up the viewing process, which results to more time for more episodes to watch.

      • 18.2.1 Jomo

Agree on all of the above. I am a skipper for re-watches, especially.

It also helps if the people who live with you have to learn to stop asking, “Are you crying again?” understand that this crying is NOT something unwanted, and in fact is the actual GOAL of the marathon.
I love it when I am finally so in tune with the characters that I enjoy their pain as much as I enjoy the ultimate release from it. And that the PAIN brings on many tears, the HAPPINESS brings on MORE.

Izzie, what the hell is wrong with me?

        • 18.2.1.1 izzie

Jomo Unnie, nothing’s wrong with you.

… as far as Kdrama Anonymous is concerned. ;)

Over here, it’s not the crying that they’re concerned about, but the sudden bursts of laughter. :)

    • 18.3 zgznoona

At the moment I’m following around 10 but some of them I put a side waiting to marathon through them.
In addition I watch 1-2 full old dramas per week.
About how to marathon dramas on the weekend. A day has 24h a drama usually between 16-20 ep.
Plenty of time to watch 1 or 2 dramas, no?
You just need to ignore reality, have food and water ready, and find a comfortable place to watch.
Ah! izzie is right, a pillow helps

      • 18.3.1 nonski

could marathon up to 2 dramas in a weekend…
basically, when i’m into a certain drama, i forgot food, sleep and where i am, as long as i’m inside my room, i don’t care whatever happens till i finish my drama :)

    • 18.4 cmrprindle

izzie, zgznoona….I don’t know if I admire you or if I’m scared of you! lol!

      • 18.4.1 zgznoona

I know, my family is concerned some times.
But it helps that I recently lost my job so I find my self with some extra free time

        • 18.4.1.1 cmrprindle

I did do quite a bit of kdrama watching when I was out of work. Actually that’s how/when I got hooked onto Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle/All That Glitters. I don’t think I would have seriously tried a 50 ep drama otherwise.

          • 18.4.1.1.1 zgznoona

That is one that I put a side for now. I was getting so mad with Geum Ran, that I figured I’ll marathom through the second half later.

          • 18.4.1.1.2 pipit

I LOVE TWiNKLE TWINKLE/ALL THAT GLITTERS!
IMO it’s the best long drama in a long time. I have no fond for long drama but I love this one. Love, love, love the OTP. I’m so glad I started watching a couple of weeks ago so I could marathon it. But now I’m stuck on ep 34 bc of the subs.
The story for the OTP is one of the best ever written for the leads. How I love them. And how I hate that evil bitch Hwang Geum Ran! Her kindness is only skin deep. Her heart is so full of greed and jelousy.
I feel so sorry for the great and wonderful father. He doesn’t deserve to have such dissappointing children. Fortunately he has Han Jung Won who loves him for his wonderful awesomeself and never for his money. Even after she knows.
I’ve been hearing good thing about CYHMH is is as good as Twinkle Twinkle. I’m looking for wonderful story of the leads.

          • 18.4.1.1.3 cmrprindle

@zgznoona – Part of the reason I fell for Sparkling was because Geum Ran wasn’t totally horrible. There was room to go up or down for her, even though we knew it was going to be all downhill. I mean she’s so awful now (at ep 34) that I don’t even want her with Dae Bum, the guy who originally liked her, but I keep going back to the decent woman she was who doesn’t know how to stand on her own. This is definitely one of those dramas that I feel like I need a good Korean-culture recap on. I feel like there are some things flying right over my head that might better explain Geum Ran’s crazy inability to see that she is causing some of this stuff to happen (or at this point, most of it) and that she could make a lot of things better for herself, even if she is dirt-poor.

What really gets my goat about her is actually how greedy she is. She wants her orig family to love her and accept her new status, but have nothing to do with her. She wants her new family to love her, ignore her past, and put aside their orig daughter. Me, me, me, me. Argh. She is so her biological mother’s child.

@pipit – WOOHOO! Someone else watching the Show With 3 Names! There’s a small group of us :) Also nice to see that I’m not the only one who finds Geum Ran greedy. Personally, I think it’s interesting that everyone is trying to keep Jung Won and the Editor from getting together, meanwhile they went and hooked up a long time ago and pretty rock-steady. The only thing the man hasn’t done is put a ring on her finger!

And isn’t Jung Won’s original dad fantastic? I love him, too. His kids do suck, but his lil brother kinda makes up for it.

            What’s CYHMH?

      • 18.4.2 izzie

Haha! You’d be more scared if you could see how I’ve spread the addiction at home and at work. ;)

    • 18.5 ricky the royal highness

I basically stopped all human contacts and become a potato. But that was then, now is different. I can only do it on weekends and monday nights.

If someone is paying for people to watch dramas, I’m so gonna quit my day job. Haha

      • 18.5.1 izzie

“I basically stopped all human contacts and become a potato.”

*sigh* You didn’t do it long enough to have a flower growing on yer head. (seriously still fixated on Best Love here.)

        • 18.5.1.1 ricky the royal highness

          Fellow BL fan here, izzie!

My potato never got the chance to bloom, alas.
I didn’t spray it with Vitamin Water as often as I should have.

          • 18.5.1.1.1 Sethe

Uh, you could give some of us here strange thoughts by talking about your “potato” blooming, and about spraying Vitamin Water on it. What ELSE do you do with your potato? (No, I don’t really want to know, I’m just asking for dramatic effect ;) )

          • 18.5.1.1.2 ricky the royal highness

I have NO idea what you’re talking about, Sethe.
*pretends to be an innocent boy*

      • 18.5.2 ck1Oz

        Er…okay.

Em…you guys have actually left me speechless.
You are all not kidding right?
There is no way people do that.I mean…really?I do believe you.Ahjummabunny I take my hat off to you.

Okay,I will take your words and ponder. In fact I’ve read your answers 3 times.Gotta say,I obviously am not even a drama addict. No wonder you guys know so many dramas.

        When I said 4 dramas I mean like 2 episodes a week.I don’t even get through 10 episodes.

Oh wow.Okay.I will marathon through 49 Days,Royal Family and Baby Face beauty.

        I know I know.I didn’t watch any of it :-)
Now I know where the bar is.LOL don’t know if I can join the club.

        Thanks.

        • 18.5.2.1 ricky the royal highness

          Nonsense!

You belong here. Do it based on your own pace. It’ll make you happier.

    • 18.6 MJP

      ck1Oz,

      Hello.

Here is my schedule. I have cut down a LOT!!!

      Sunday
Can You Hear My Heart (Last Episode!!!)
      Love Keeps Going
      Hayate the Combat Butler
      Drunken to Love You

      Wednesday-Thursday
      Heartstrings

      Friday
      Material Queen

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I cut out my sleep, that’s how I can watch them, plus I watch other things, if I have time. I also skip forward past boring scenes. My big plus is that because I am a stay at home mom, I can sleep in a bit. However, all that is going to change as Wee MJP is starting preschool the end of August!!!

We’ll see what happens to my kdrama watching… Because when he goes to school, I want to work on projects and study while I have the 2.5 hrs free time.

  18. 19 stolenliegh

    Happy friday everyone!

Im stumped. I miss it here and im having serious kdrama withdrawal. I haven’t had my kdrama fix since since may coz I can’t really watch anything until the end if july. I have to study really really hard to pass and (to top?) my board exam this end of july. I’ll be a professional soon and you’ll have a resident nutritionist-dietitian here. Haha. Yay! Wish me luck everyone.

I so miss it here. See you all in august. Enjoy! :)

    • 19.1 ahjummabunny

himi saeyo unnie! aja! aja! don’t worry the dramas will wait for you. and we will wait for you and enthusiastically talk about all the dramas you want to talk about with you.

          • 19.1.1.1.1 stolenliegh

Ah. You should be my unnie. Hehehe. I’ll turn 22 next week. 23 if by Korean age. :) )

Anyway, you shouldn’t be calling yourself ahjumma. You’re still young. Hehe. Unnie bunny.:D

    • 19.2 zgznoona

      Good luck!!!
      You are almost done

      • 19.2.1 stolenliegh

  20. 21 ahjummabunny

asianromance I know you’re trying to make light but, sleep paralysis is serious business! I hope it’s something you’re trying to work out even if it is with a shaman/holy person/ ritual.
I haven’t seen too many drama specials but the ones I have seen are great. The one I just saw is called hair show. It is soo cute. I don’t know if it matches with the tone of white christmas but it was really enjoyable.

    • 21.1 Anu

      Bunny……
u watched hair show???? I watched the first episode….n then jst 4gt!!! I liked the first part very much!!
I have watched a few drama specials but I dunno their names….*wishin somebody like kang ji hwan will act in one of them!!*

      • 21.1.1 ahjummabunny

I did. I was so pleased to see that the young woman lead in hair show was the dongsaeng in I love you ten thousand times and hyun woo was also with lee soo kyung in secret agent miss oh! it’s true a lot of specials don’t have very popular actors but the stories are usually great.

    • 21.2 zgznoona

Note to my self: check hair show this weekend

    • 21.3 asianromance

Thanks for watching out for me! I don’t get sleep paralysis often- probably only 5 times in my entire life. I think the reason I had it might be psychological. I’m starting my driving lessons again after failing to make much progress through last summer’s $300+ worth of lessons. I had the paralysis the day I called the school to book another $300+ set of lessons. I’m usually a decent learner, so the whole driving thing being my Achilles’ heel stresses me out, especially when I see people being able to smoke, talk on the phone, and drive at the same time without mishap! =P

Thanks for the hair show recommendation! I’ll start checking it out later tonight!

      • 21.3.1 ahjummabunny

ah no problem, I think a ritual will help with the anxiety/stress too. I get that way if I drink coffee I don’t make. I plan to take driving lessons this summer too. I probably won’t though I’m in ant mode money-wise.

  21. 22 Anu

    Hellooooo evry1

aaah…My only relief is this site….LOL…am dying of boredom!!!…..my net speed is currently very low….gotta wait 4 another 5 days before its restored….I need 2 make a list of dramas 2 watch….hmmm…I have 6 eps of CYHMH 2 finish, 4 ep of heartstrings and 6 eps of BFB….

    Any other kdrama suggestions guyz???:)

    • 22.1 ahjummabunny

of course we have suggestions! don’t you know where you are?

hey Anu, did you watch coffee prince?
i loved both the lead roles. it is a must see!

          • 22.1.1.1.1 Anu

as for the question where i am from: i live in melbourne (but of indian origin)

if you don’t mind me asking, are you indian (because your name sounds like one)?

          • 22.1.1.1.3 Anu

            YES I AM!!! u too???

umm…I will call u rg then:))

          • 22.1.1.1.4 joybells

hi @anu n @ramen_girl…im a fellow indian too n im currently residing in india itself..not many pepole here watch kdrama here, they are more into a different type of “K-soaps/ekta kapoor” (i hope u know wat i mean)..those drive me wacky..haha
so how long have you two been into kdramas? i’ve been a loyal addict for the past 7 years n visiting dramabeans for the past two n half years

          • 22.1.1.1.5 Anu

@joybell yay!!! another Indian!!! am residing in India too…Where r u from(in India)??? Am from the southern most state…;)

7 years??? that’s a pretty long time…wow!! I wish I’d known abt k-world bfr!!! I watched full house n 2009 n was instantly addicted….now we have KBSWorld on tv…so I see only korean programmes whenevr am home!!

oh yeah…I do know abt the ekta phenomenon….I hate hindi serials literally…I mean some of them do start off really nice…like sasural genda phool, yeh rishta kya kehlata hai n all…but becomes repetitive n boring n ridiculous aft a while….if they reduce dramas to 16 ep…maybe v will also get nice dramas….but still Indian audience like melodrama rather than the cute factor…so…

But am all for the kdramas n kpop!!! bring on the cute!!!

            o….n what’s ur name???

          • 22.1.1.1.6 joybells

If I say anymore I think I’ll give away the whole thing. but it’s good I promise. I think you said you saw coffee house last week. if you haven’t you should watch it.

          • 22.2.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

second that fool! I loved it. I also loved it a lot more when I found out more about the lead actor. he seems so nice. I don’t why but he reminds of bill murray.

          • 22.2.1.1.2 ricky the royal highness

That Fool is one of my fav! Love the fact the she fell on love with someone so ‘good’. The male lead rocked his character.

    • 23.1 ahjummabunny

yeah it’s still early and the others are trying to arrive fashionably late or are ranting and raving on the city hunter page. well since we’re old chums or something like it shouldn’t you be calling me ‘jumma or bunny’?

  23. 24 ramen_girl

haha! i already had my city hunter fix today. i will call you bunny or can i call you unnie?

  24. 25 stolenliegh

@ahjummabunny i hope you didn’t get offended by my asking. Just thought that maybe you’re older but you’re calling me unnie. Not that it’s a big deal. :D

    • 25.1 ahjummabunny

okay DONGSAENGYA! I’m not at all used to being older than anyone except my sibs because my birthday is late in the year.

      • 25.1.2 cmrprindle

Jumma…you and me both. I’ve spent so much of my life being the baby of every group I’m in that coming to this stage of being older than ppl? Weird.

        • 25.1.2.1 stolenliegh

In a few years time i’ll be joining you too unni. Well that’s how it goes. :)

  25. 26 Viola

    Happy Friday Everyone! *HUGS*!!!! :P

This OT is very special one for me, because it marks the anniversary for finding my drama peeps on OT 143. This was a good year. I didn’t expect that I would be this much richer in friendship, love and yes family from becoming a regular poster in a drama blog!

But it is so much more than just a drama blog, for me at least it is family. I remember when lb_tmi posted about hearing her baby’s heartbeat for the first time. These posts about our children, our heartbreak, starting new jobs, college, and even the loss of death makes us a family. What else can we be when we share so many pieces of our lives with each other? ♥
I am so very grateful for finding you all, my fellow OT junkies, my kindred spirits.

So, I want to thank Javabeans and Girlfriday from the bottom of my heart for creating this place, this haven of the spirit. Thank you.

    • 26.1 ahjummabunny

aww viola! you’re making me blub! don’t you know we read these posts at work too! happy anniversary!

    • 26.2 zgznoona

      Happy Aniversary!!!
      and many more to come

    • 26.3 stolenliegh

So true. It’s like having lots of unni and dongsaeng. Im an only child and being here makes me feel like i have lots of siblings.

      Hooray to DB family. :D

    • 26.4 cmrprindle

      Oh Viola! *more huggles!*

Happy anniversary to you! What a lovely, lovely way of saying all *spreads arms to include all of OT* this. We are our own little family. I love the spirit of the OT and DB in general. Javabeans did a good thing when she made the OT, and we’re grateful.

    • 26.5 splgt001

@Viola: hugs Lil Sis ♥ Crazy how fast time goes by…

      Thanks JB and GF!!!

    • 26.6 ricky the royal highness

Noona!! ( I suddenly have this weird urge to call you that, V)

      HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
I can’t wait for MY anniversary next year.

      • 26.6.1 Viola

        LOL!! :)

Just as with your birthday, there is no danger of me forgetting your anniversary! Looking forward to OT 238! :)

I was on OT 186 for only a brief time, I said hi to you and left so I didn’t see any of the comments. But when I did see your reply, it put a grin on my face. That was soooo over the top!!

        • 26.6.1.1 ricky the royal highness

How did you came up with OT 238? I’m good at humans and plants but math is Navi talk to me :)

You’ll always be a celebrity in my mind.

          • 26.6.1.1.1 Viola

Hmmmm..should I dispel my blue people mystique and actually explain to you? ;)

There are 52 weeks in a year, OT happens every week, you first posted on OT 186, so 186+52= 238, and that means your 1 year anniversary would fall on OT 238. Tada! :)

          • 26.6.1.1.2 Viola

Ricky, do you love plants as MUCH as you love animals? LOL! :P

*all misty eyed* HUGS to my daughter Viola <3
It's been a fabulous year with my OT family :D Thanks for sharing my ups and downs with me. I'm also grateful that you have let me become a part of your lives. :) Sorry I have not been coming by as often lately, I've been too busy with family responsibilities (in-laws).

@ Javabeans and Girlfriday Thank you SOOOO much for this OT and your site. You put a smile on my face everyday :D I love you to bits!!! Big Pooh Bear Hug to you. <3

    • 26.8 Jomo

You are not kidding about it being OT 143?
Do you understand how wildly coincidental and fitting that number is? Do you? Do you?
      I = 1
      love = 4
      you = 3

On our wedding bands, john and I wrote:
      To JMW
      from JRW 143 8.

8 = forever (on its side)
(That is why my screen name is often Jomo143 or Jomo1438)

      Chukahyo!

        Jomo: Awwwww :)

**HUGS** and Happy Anniversary … wow, we’ve come so far, done so much, here and away from here.

I rarely have the time to do more than dip in my toes with a quick comment unless I get my dander up and have a full go at some button that’s been pushed, but I here the echoes of many kindred and unkindred spirits here, a lively mix.

Here’s to many, many more! <3

    • 26.10 Diadda

Happy anniversary and all that stuff. I’m still HITT fangirling today so I can’t stay long, but HUGS to you all.

      I miss OT…

And thank you Dramabeans for still being a site I check more than any other. You rock! JB and GF!

      • 26.10.1 Ambie

Yea Unni represented…. ( needs her to step away from the boy bands) lol… what if we run into some in Korea? Dear Fruitful Diety!!

    • 26.11 brookeeve

To my one true little sister:

How much do I love you? How many times have I panicked when you haven’t answered my texts or when you haven’t posted on Facebook? And it’s truly only been a year? I feel like I’ve known you for lifetimes.

      Happy Anniversary, dongsaeng!

    • 26.12 pipit

A year? But it feels like I’ve been loving you for a life time Viola. I don’t have a sister and I know Brookeeve has claimed you as hers but I want you to know that I really really love you.
When I say you’re my favourite you really are. We made a lot of jokes and being crazy at times but through it all you’re still being you. The kind soft hearted Viola.
And I don’t say this because you helped me to get out of that marble bathroom (you would never know how much I loved you at that particular moment) but because you’re simply wonderful.
This place has becomed sunnier and warmer because of your warmth. I think OT can be rather intimidated for those who never comment here, but with you taking the time to personally welcome them…I think that means a lot.
Love you Viola darling. I’m also grateful to have found you through OT. Thanks JB and GF.

      HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Viola!

      Wheeeeeee! Yeeeeeeyyyyy! Woooooooooot!

I cant remember when I first discovered OT…but I came across DB when SKKS was being aired. So that would be around the last quarter of the previous year, right? But I knew about and posted here on OT much later I think.

Anyways, so happy for you, Viola! Thanks for making our time here in OT so much fun! We may pursue different dramas, hence different threads/recaps, at any given time but at the end of a hectic week we always converge here at OT. So this is like our DB Home Base, yeah! And you are our resident effervescent Viola! :-)

Looking forward to more wonderful years ahead with you here in OT!!!!!

    • 26.15 MJP

      Viola!

      *HUGS HUGS AND MORE HUGS*

*Sprays of joyous silly-string rainbow around you*

I agree with your sentiments regarding DB, OT, JB and GF!

My first OT was #171 January 21, 2011. I made two comments, my first comment was to YOU!!!! It was about Siwon, of course, in Athena and how he should have been the lead.

My second comment was to Izzie about Kwan Sang Woo and his gorgeous bedroom eyes. Oh, I love that man’s eyes!!! The just smolder!!! *Sigh, sigh, swoon!*

I never made an annoucement of being a newbie, I just bound right it. I wanna go back and see how you were on your first OT comments!!!!!!!!

      • 26.15.1 izzie

KSW… I want to see him in a drama again.

      Happy Anniversary! :)

Grateful here, too, for meeting you (and the rest of the DB noonas).

  26. 27 Linda

I was watching the live premiere of the last Harry Potter film last night (or very early this morning) and i’m curious at who is actually a fan of the books here. I grew up with Harry Potter, so my anticipation for the film is filled with the sadness of knowing that this is the end of such a great, magical phenomenon.

Of course i will still have my beloved and well read books, but J.K Rowling has repeatedly stated that she has no further plans for Harry Potter (which i am glad of) so i’m also curious of whether there has been a bigger craze than the one left by Harry Potter.

    • 27.1 ahjummabunny

there was the enid blyton craze when I was a young warthog and the books were so scarce! when I was an older warthog there was the miguel street craze.

      • 27.1.1 Anu

ooo….I 4gt abt that!!! Famous five & Secret Seven were a craze when I was in school!!!

        • 27.1.1.1 Linda

I loved Enid Blyton’s books :) My favourite by her was the wishing chair series!

        • 27.1.1.2 Shiku

I can’t believe how much in common I have with other people in OT. I was so crazy about Famous Five and Secret seven. I think I bought/borrowed almost all of them

      • 27.1.2 ricky the royal highness

I love it when you say the word worthog!

        • 27.1.2.1 ricky the royal highness

          Ack! typo!

    • 27.2 skelly

The only craze that I can think of that comes near the Harry Potter phenom is Star Wars. But Star Wars, while probably more widespread, does not have as deep an influence, I think, because it is primarily a movie-based culture, while Harry Potter is primarily book-based, with the movies as the whipped cream on top. (LOTS of parents – and schools! – coerced children into reading with Harry Potter…) I know lots of teenager/young adults who feel very close to Harry Potter because they grew up with the books, grew up watching the movies. My kids vividly remember getting dressed up and going to the local bookstore to pick up their pre-order copies at midnight on the release day. The first book came out in 1997, the final movie coming out 14 years later – that’s an entire childhood.

      • 27.2.1 Linda

I was never really into star wars, but I don’t think there has ever been anyone who hasn’t heard of Darth Vader, or Luke Skywalker.

I like that parents and schools have forced kids to read the series, i am completely bias towards the series of course, but it does open up the door for reading. I’m a great lover of books of all genres, and it makes me happy to know that the adults are trying harder to make their children read.

    • 27.3 Anu

      hey linda….
am a BIG fan of harry!!! I still remember when I read its review in the newspaper..at that time I thought it will b some kind of a stupid story intended for primary school kids…..not that I was sooo old…haha…I was in 7th maybe….;) so yes…I grew with harry too!!
I happened 2 c the first film the nxt year and I genuinely liked it!!! I was also in a residential school at that time…v also had 7 years 2 spend there…n also had a big canteen..I would relate myself to harry’s experiences at hogwarts!!
I got my first book ( ie….the 6th one)as a gift from my mother….I read it n knew that books works far greater for me than the films…..so yeah….now I hav all the books…;) As for movies…I luv d first two…..I don’t like the rest!!!

      Aaah…long post…sorry!!!:)..

      • 27.3.1 Linda

I love love love the books! There is a uni where I live that reminds me so much of Hogwarts, the grounds, the buildings, everything! For the movies, i actually watched the first movie before i started reading the series, but i have to admit i love the books so much more than the movies. The first two movies are more true to the books, and the rest of the movie franchise took a more creative/hollywood approach, which wasn’t too bad. On their own the movies are pretty good, but from a reader’s perspective the movies didn’t do the books any justice.

My favourite movie would have to the first and third one.

    • 27.4 zgznoona

I’m not so young, but I love HP. I read all the books most than once and though the movies are not as good as the books, they help to keep the story alive.
Living in South Floriada (USA) I went to universal to see the HP theme park, it was like being in the book + over crowded mass of muggles. I felt I was a child again

    • 27.5 IzOcha

Count me in as a fan–and its the biggest fandom craze I can recall, as its world wide, non age and non gender specific. Recently argued about personal choices based on house affiliation. I think she might have thought I was completely serious, too. (Go Gryffindor! Up with Hufflepuff!)

    • 27.6 asianromance

Definitely a fan of the books!

Thinking about the Harry Potter books…their existence and the craze over them (totally well-deserved craze!) is almost half my life. I’m in my mid-20s now. The first book came out when I was in middle school and I read my first harry potter book around age 13. I spent high school and most of college with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I remember feeling such a sense of loss as I read the last harry potter book at age 21. The only thing that alleviated that feeling was knowing the movies will be there…but now it’s time for the last HP film.

    • 27.7 Linda

I was thinking about what else was a craze and i think.. back, back, back in the days, Sweet Valley High was pretty big (for the girls). My primary school teacher had the entire set, so i borrowed them one by one and fell in love with the Wakely sisters. The latest one just came out and its so completely different to what i remembered it was.

I think twilight has a pretty big following as well, i’ve read the books myself and i have to admit i do like them. Its an easy read, but it is true it cannot be compared to my beloved HP book set. Also i think the movies were badly made and therefore so many people have judged the series based on the movies. The books themselves are flawed, but then again i think all books can be nit and picked.

Recommended reads: ( i’m only 18, so these are from a teenager’s reading list)
      - Dracula, by Bram Stroker ( one my all time favourites)
      - The hunger games, by Suzzane Collins
      - The book thief, by Marcus Zusak ( a must read)
      - Jodi Picoult books (but they get repetitive)

      • 27.7.1 hookedonmonix

The hunger games is awesome. I’m in my 30′s, but am a total YA addict. I have a blanket ban on Jodi Picoult, though. :)

  27. 28 JenJenn

Hiiiii!! I don’t usually comment on threads(read: never) soo… HI EVERYONE. as a first timer, reading through these threads are actually quite fun and interesting to know how others are feeling about the dramas:)

As for me, I’ve been a deep deep deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep Lee Min Ho fan since u started dramas, and I can definentely see his growth as an actor. Everything in City Hunter is so beautifully wrapped up…the OSTs are addicting and they fit, the acting is stellar, the angst is captivating, the camera shots are cut to a timely fashion…so good!!!:)
    Yes I’m completely addicted!:)
SO ANYONE OUT THERE, make sure you watch City Hunter. You will not regret it:) I promise!!!!!!!!!!! Ep 1 was a setting the scene and I most definitely was not glued, ep 2 was so so, but if you watch till the end of ep 3…addicted. And right now, it’s my favorite drama. It bear boys over flowers and the other 20+ kdramas I love. Yepppp, watch it!!

    • 28.1 ramen_girl

hi JenJenn, you and me are on the same boat as this is my first day of commenting too(though i have read some OT’s before)!
as of Lee Min Ho *gasp*, i am a huge fan of his. now, i am glad that he is known not only for his pretty looks but also for great acting!
so, like you i am completely addicted to CH!! and yay! it is officially now my favourite drama ever (though we have to yet see how the ending plays).

    Hello Everyone!

It’s so good to see you all on the OT!

As usual, I have lots to say and so little time to say it in. Also, some of what I have to say, someone or many someones have already said it, so no need to be redundant!

Busy at the moment, so I will chat more later.

    • 30.1 cmrprindle

MJP unnie! *hugs!* You type faster than I do! lol. I wish I had your self control. Well, then here’s the place to ask how MJP family is doing. How do you all do? And we (or I) want to hear your spin on things anyway, so share…share!

      • 30.1.1 MJP

        CMR,

The family is doing well. We are a bit daunted this morning as we wanted to go to the toy and train museum. We went there on July 3 and found that it was closed for the holiday. That was met with mass amounts of toddler tears and wails of “Why aren’t they open?!!!” So we decided to call this time. When we called, they said they are only open on weekdays and even then call before you come because they might not be open. I guess it is a volunteer type of basis and there isn’t anyone to man the museum.

So the backup is the zoo. We are members because we go there all the time. :-) I often find myself being asked where things are, which makes me wonder how I appear to others that they decide to ask me questions. Could it be the ramen hair? (Joke)

MJP Hubby keeps asking me when we are leaving, so once again I am pressed for time on the OT.

I will read your comment below to see how you are doing and ask you Q’s down there, okay? It’s nice that we posted so close together this week!

And WOW! Ricky TRH was #4 this week. Stalking the OT! Did he make it to #1 yet? I can’t recall.

        • 30.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

          HAHA :)

I was thisclose, yunno. I think I know the ‘time’ when OT is posted in DB now. I’ll see if I can make it to the top 3 this week.

        • 30.1.1.2 cmrprindle

Unnie, hurray for happy family! I hope you guys have had a good weekend overall.

A few of the national monument type places in the city are like your museum. They have limited set hours, but they’re manned by volunteers so even that can be less-than-firm during the off-season. :-/ Many years ago Mom and I tried to visit…Alexander Hamilton’s house one day, and they were thoroughly closed.

    • 30.2 ricky the royal highness

      Hello!!!

        Viola Dahling!

How have you been doing? Are you feeling more chipper this week? I have a feeling I may know why you were down, but it is all conjecture on my part. But something has been missing these past two weeks.

I haven’t had an opportunity to read the comments, but what dramas are you watching right now? We haven’t talked much about that lately. I am curious about you and your drama likes!

    • 30.4 Viola

*HUGS HUGS AND MORE HUGS TO ALL OF YOU*

Alright! So, even though most, if not all of this has already been discussed, here is my take on things:

I wonder how many Kdramas will be germinated from this news about South Korea getting the winter olympics?

Riding the wave of Best LOVE…..
      ————————————-

CSW & GHJ Win big at Mnet Presents 20′s Choice Awards
Hot Drama Actor – Cha Seung Won
Hot Drama Actress – Gong Hyo Jin
Hot Body Male (6-pack) – Cha Seung Won
Hot Style Icon – Gong Hyo Jin

I love that Cha Seung Won and Gong Hyo Jin won a couple of awards. Although, I do wonder how he felt about being chosen as having an award-winning body, because I heard he’s a loner in “real-life.”

Also, I read this week that Gong Hyo Jin and her boyfriend were given the title of the couple to never part for being on again/off again for ??? years. I am surprised because Cha Seung Won has been married for like what 22 years? And there are other couples who have probably been together or married for longer than Gong Hyo Jin and her boyfriend.

Cha Seung Won is also riding a personal wave of success. It’s interesting to see how the current Kdrama brings success to one if not both actors/actressess. It’s my understanding that Hyun Bin’s popularity wave is still going strong even though he is now in the Marines. I have read that is unusual. But with regard to this article, I wonder why Kim Tae Hee was listed, but not Song Seung Heon. Is he just popular with the Dramabeans readers?

So, those are some of my thoughts.

      • 30.5.1 MJP

p.s. I wonder if I can teach MJP Hubby to braid my hair. I can do other peoples hair but not my own. Hmmm. So tired of the pony tail and bun… Anyone willing to come over and braid my hair? Ha! Ha! Ha!

        We can watch Kdramas together!!!!!

        • 30.5.1.1 cmrprindle's phone

Unnie, I am so there! :)

          • 30.5.1.1.1 MJP

            CMR!

We are only 7 hrs 48 mins / 463.31 miles away from each other! That’s about a 3 hour flight!

            Ha! Ha! Ha!

I can picture it now. MJP Hubby borrowing the big projector from work and us watching TWWSWTM on an entire wall. Wee MJP jumping all over you, not letting you watch a thing.

          • 30.5.1.1.2 cmrprindle

….sounds like you’re on the way to my Gram. Seeing as how this does not sound like a bad idea at all, I hear a slight detour in my travel-plans ;) :) Have I mentioned that I have a toddler goddaughter? I only see her once or twice a week, but she too enjoys being distracting. Maybe it’s just that age? She also likes to “help”, to mixed success. Oh my little mei-mei.

      • 30.5.2 cmrprindle

Y’know, unnie, since finding out that Cha Seung Wo has been married for 20-some-odd years he’s infinitely more attractive to me. Not in a romantic kind of way b/c, ew…someone else’s man! But in general. Of course I don’t know anything about the marriage at all, but I highly respect someone who got married young and has stuck it out this long while working in a topsy-turvy industry. Thank you for the info.

  30. 31 cmrprindle

Okay, so I gotta post this while I still have a chance (getting caught up in comments!). Plus, I’m going as my friend’s +1 to the wedding of a mutual friend upstate, so I won’t be online for most of the weekend. Omigosh, all the comments I’ll have to read on Sunday! But if today’s any indication, it’ll be worth it. So looking forward to giving samsooki’s a more indepth read.

Best Love is love! Jomo, you were so right. Crying with/for Ae Jung is the best. Oh she just hurts my heart, but for all the right reasons. I also agree with JB’s earlier assessment of Dokko Jin (at least 7.5 epis in) that I don’t quite get why he’s attracted to her, and really believe in the relationship betw AJ and Pil Joo wholeheartedly. They’re so cute!

Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle/All That Glitters: I realized it’s going to be over soon and I’m sad. I love this show so much, and Kang Dong Ha is my new fangirl crush, even if he is too young. Gah! This show, man. I’d be much further along with, well, everything if not for Sparkling. I think it’s going to be right up there with The Woman Who Still… for me.

Viola/izzie/Shiku: I am sorry to say that the romance with Hot Asian Guy has come to a halt, if not actually gone backwards. IDK, maybe I shouldn’t judge these things by latter-week sitings of him. His dept is crazy on Weds afternoon through Friday, and I think there’s some outside stuff going on making him extra crazy. Yeah, that’s it. Anywho, there is one last story in my tale of “us” which has a happier ending. We’ll see…

Jumma: Do you mind if I fictionalize you? Please feel free to say no, heck no. I seriously won’t mind. :) The story is just a fuzzy idea in my head anyway, so it may not happen.

MJP unnie….Hi :) So, um, like, last week? I sorta kinda recorded an “MJP unnie” song. I don’t know what happened. I was reading the OT late Sunday night and started humming your name (with a French pronunciation, go fig), which sounded nifty so I ran and got my blackberry and recorded a voicenote of me singing. It seemed like a great idea at the time, but when I woke up the next morning I realized how over-the-top and silly it was. But I still thought it was a funny story so here I am, sharing my inner goofball coming out.

And lastly, this week when I went to return my library book what did I see on the ridiculously long line? A harabeoji with 3-4 kdramas on DVD! At first I was spying on him b/c of the terrific Chinese fan he had (my last one came apart :( ), then I noticed the kdramas. At least one of them was Triple. Unfortunately, I chickened out about asking him where he’d gotten his fan. Have I ever mentioned I’m a coward?

(I just don’t know how to make a short entry, do I?)

    • 31.1 cmrprindle

Oh! MJP unnie….how are MJP oppa and wee!MJP? I have to keep reminding myself you don’t belong to the OT :s

      • 31.1.1 Jomo

        Love “wee MJP”!

      • 31.1.2 MJP

        CMR,

I have a feeling that you sing beautifully, so you should sing it, sans yourself if you are feeling shy, and post it to you tube and give me a linky so I can hear it.

I love to make up songs too. Wee MJP does too. We sit at night sometimes in his rocking recliner and sing. Last night was Jingle Bells, because he’s been watching Franklin the turtle’s Christmas show over and over. He has declared that winter is his favorite season!

So in honor of his favorite season, I decided to sing his favorite Christmas song, Jingle Bells. I sang it so much that my throat started hurting (chronic rhinitis and strained vocal chords from using them wrong–never been the same since–stopped singing in choir). MJP Hubby had to come in and sing it a couple more times for him.

Maybe I should record it and put it on YouTube for you? You can hear how bad I sing and maybe you won’t feel alone in posting your beautifully sung MJP song for me!

        • 31.1.2.1 cmrprindle

MJP oppa for pinch-hit-singing win! (He was pretty nifty with the computer help last week or the week before, too :) )

Okay, if I can figure out how to get my mini mic and Audacity and youtube to work (whew!) I will reprise the “MJP unnie” song (meep!) and you can take a listen to the silly hummings of an over-tired, very giddy mind. It should be funny if nothing else. *crosses fingers*

And yes! I’m sure we’d all love to hear the MJP rendition of Jingle Bells. Maybe a duet with MJP oppa? *big-eyes* I am sorry that you had to stop singing in the choir, though. My grandfather had a lingering illness before he died, and one of the signs that he was really, truly going down was when he couldn’t or wouldn’t sing anymore. Because of his love of it, music has always been integral to our family, even among the less, ahem, melodic. :)

          • 31.1.2.1.1 MJP

            CMR,

Did you have a good time at the wedding?

            *HUGS*

I look forward to hearing you sing.

    • 31.2 ricky the royal highness

      Have fun during the wedding!

Oh BTW as promised, I ran down my drama memory lane. And I think it was Full House that made me a Full Time addict.

      • 31.2.1 cmrprindle's phone

YRH! You didn’t forget your loyal subject! :)

What about full house sucked you in and made you a junkie for life?

        • 31.2.1.1 ricky the royal highness

It’s all that yelling and teeth-brushing, I think. Bwahaha..

Basically the Contract Marriage aspect of it. Contract marriages are totally my thang. If you know any Kdramas with that element then please tell me :)

          • 31.2.1.1.1 cmrprindle

You did mention a love of contract marriages before. I like the theme in stories…any more suggestions for dramas? I know you said “Delightful Girl…” had that as a major plot point.

      • 31.2.2 MJP

        I liked Full House too!

        • 31.2.2.1 ricky the royal highness

Glad you felt the same way :)

When did you watch it? Was it right after Playful Kiss, MJP?

          • 31.2.2.1.1 MJP

            Ricky TRH,

I am so angry with myself. I just typed a huge, I mean HUGE reply and accidently erased it by jumping to another webpage to research something for you. And I confess, I just don’t want to write it all down agan… Sigh…

            After PK was

            mary stayed out all night
            athena
            my princess
            secret garden
            queen of reversals
            royal family

Oldies and how I found full house

first was biscuit teacher and star candy (which lead me to)
sangdoo, let’s go to school (which lead me to)
            full house

Sorry, I am too tired to write the rest again, but it may be better for you, huh? :-)

    • 31.3 Viola

      *HUGS* Enjoy the wedding!! :)

I am switching your OTP to cute Spanish guy! Solved! :P

      • 31.3.1 izzie

        Agreeeeee! :)

Cute Spanish guy… hmm… opcion muy buena! :)

        • 31.3.1.1 Viola

          Yo pienso tambien! :P

          • 31.3.1.1.1 cmrprindle's phone

LOL you guys! I wouldn’t mind switching to Cute Spanish Guy. He at least conversates with me :S

Now all I gotta do is learn Spanish.

          • 31.3.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

            *converses.

          • 31.3.1.1.3 cmrprindle

Jumma, Viola and Izzie, does this mean we need to set up a teach-CMR-Spanish date? lol!

    • 31.4 Jomo

Life, sometimes, is what gets in the way of romance, like with you and Hot Asian Guy. Maybe you and he are made for each other, but both of you are just too busy to find out. It’s disappointingly mundane.

In K-dramas, of course, it’s the mother-in-law, or class divides, or the old evil girlfriend.

I guess we will never see a plot where HAG and CMR are drawn together, but ripped apart because of the new SAP conversion Fit/Gap analysis meetings didn’t allow enough time for them to get to know each other!!

Good luck with him, anyway, or whomever you will eventually share your ramen with…

What is this about publishing a finished novel? Hmm? Hmm?

      • 31.4.1 cmrprindle

Jomo, you need a name…Jomo the Wise, perhaps? Auntie Jomo? Jomobeans? I’m just sayin’…

It has occurred to me that I don’t even know if HAG is available, let alone interested. :-/ I managed to make him chuckle on the way out from work. Plus!

Novel….yeah, I finished writing a novel just before Easter this year. I needed to do some re-editing to the beginning but now I think I can start the query-an-agent process (meep!).

        • 31.4.1.1 zgznoona

Good luck with your novel… I hope we can see you work published soon
I hope you had fun at the wedding.
Need help with the Spanish, I can help with that. Ask what you want to know, and I’ll try to help

          • 31.4.1.1.1 cmrprindle

            :D Thank you, thank you!

    • 31.5 Shiku

      Hi cmrprindle,

Have fun at the wedding, I love weddings. Don’t give up on Hot Asian Guy. Or you could have both Hot Asian and Spanish guys.

      • 31.5.1 cmrprindle

lol…I love that you’re holding out hope for me (someone has to) and giving me options! I’ve gone from no guys to lots! My mom would say this is a problem to have ;)

  33. 34 ricky the royal highness

    Humor me, wonderful OT people.
I was reading all your wonderful comments and I can’t help but notice many great names/handles here. I’m curious about the inspiration behind your names. How did you named yourselves?

To be fair, lemme start. Ricky is my nickname at home and royal highness is my nickname among friends. So Ricky The Royal Highness was born!

    • 34.1 Viola

Viola is my nickname too! :P

      • 34.1.1 ricky the royal highness

I also know that Shakespeare had a significant influence ;)

        • 34.1.1.1 Viola

Funny story about the Shakespeare influence. My dad read Twelfth Night in college, and was enchanted by the character of Viola, so, being the English major nerd that he was, made a note to self: must name daughter Viola. Keep in mind that was about 12 years before I was actually born….. *shakes head* :P

          • 34.1.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

My father named me R***** and my sister R***** because of a brother and sister he met when he was younger. He remembered and kept the names in his memory for many years, finally naming his first and second child with those names.

          • 34.1.1.1.2 asianromance

Twelfth Night is my fave shakespeare play!! A horrid English teacher of mine from high school is named Viola. Felt like she tainted the name of one of my fave heroines. I’m glad to know that there is someone nice (and a fellow kdrama addict, to boot!) being named Viola.

          • 34.1.1.1.3 Viola

Awwww!! *hugs* Asianromance!! I hereby appoint myself the goodwill ambassador for all the peeps named Viola! :P

    • 34.2 ramen_girl

well, i named myself ramen_girl cause, the rg stands in for my real name Ramya Ghanta and i love eating ramen (it is also something that pops up in every k-drama (the leads eating ramen) and me being a complete k-addict simply put the name together)!

      • 34.2.1 ricky the royal highness

        Your real name is DAEBAK!

I get the fascination with food which would cause you to name yourself in honor of that said food. I started eating ramen because of Kdrama. And how ridiculous I get when I’m grocery shopping – I look for Hangul letters and read it. More often than not, I’ll buy the products.
