Happy Friday!! It’s sweltering in NYC’s 102 deg weather- but
so excited to see 1st comment with Samsooki – yay
It’s been a long time!
I took a peek at the the 1st ep of the Japanese Version of You’re Beautiful .. omg, painful to watch – Let’s say they really don’t make stars and boy band members like they used to a la SMAP days. I would believe it if they told me the lead (not Minam) was the real girl- He’s got nothing on JKS. Had to hurry and go watch original version again to erase this horrifying sight. Sad when I think that the days when I enjoyed Jdrama much for eye candy are no more. Oh well its comforting that in Kr Dramaland we got the cream of the crop coming back from Army Duty like Eric and Lee Dong Wook. Can’t wait!
Hi!
What about Kim Rae Won? Yum, Yum, YUM!!!!!
How can I forget! But too bad we wont get him on screen w Su Ae till late Sept – so in the mean time I’ll be squeeing to the other two heating up the screen – the summer is never to hot for leading men fresh out of army duty
well, i watched eps 1-2 of Ikemen desu ne, the J-drama version of You Are beautiful. To call it a remake would be too generous. It’s more like watching a high school drama production of your favorite broadway musical. Most of it is practically the same, scene for scene, (and prop for prop) but without all the great Hong sisters stuff that we loved about the first (and no white-rimmed glasses…odd).
So does that mean it’s bad? Yes…er, I mean NO! Well, it’s better than I expected, but I put the bar reeeeeally low, since none of the cast were well-known and I don’t like stuff that the directors have done before.
But in its favor, j-drama tends to dig into the “human condition” more than romance, and ikemen is dedicating more time to the heroine’s insecurities about growing up an orphan. So, she drags them into volunteering at a children’s home. And she has a lot more guts, and she’ll stand up for her beliefs. She has her own ideals to achieve through being in ANJell. Plus, no weird shuffle-walk, thought they use the same puffy cheek and twitchy lips faces. Shin Woo fans will find his parallel Shu gets some cute scenes. The boss is pretty clever at controlling his wild card, Ren (Taekyung), ,but the mom is pretty lame so far. Oh, and the house is cool.
J-dramas are an acquired taste, for sure, but if you can get through the inane cheesiness, there’s some good stuff there. It’s breezing through the first half of YAB really fast, so I’m hoping it’ll dwell more on the family issues in the end. Maybe get some better resolution, and perhaps just a tad more brother-time.
*My Girls*
Here is a list of my favorite Korean Girls!!!
1- Yoon Eun-hye (born October 3, 1984).
2- Son Ye-jin (born January 11, 1982).
3- Kim Ha-neul (born February 21, 1978).
4- Lee Eun-ju ( November 16, 1980 – February 22, 2005), (RIP).
5- Kim So-yeon (born November 2, 1980).
6- Han Ye Seul (born September 18, 1981).
Even tough I Love Yoon Eun-hye the most, I do not think she is the best actress among this girls, so here is my ranking according to their acting skill level.
*Top Actress*
1- Son Ye-jin
2- Lee Eun-ju
3- Kim Ha-neul
4- Kim So-yeon
5- Han Ye-seul
6- Yoon Eun-hye
P.S. Ha Ji-won (born June 28, 1978), is one of Koreas top actress, but not one of my favorites….
I totally forgot to mention or ask if you had seen Yoo In Hye’s photo shoot in Hawaii?
I have!!!!!! The photo of her bare back, has become my desktop background!!! YEH,,,FTW!!!!
LOL! Amg1!!!!!
But she really looked like a high-class model in this shoot. I thought it was good work.
I think you forgot Moon Geun Young! :O
My favorite is Lee Yeong Ae and Choi Ji Woo. Other actresses I admire are Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Nichole Kidman.
Arbitrary:
I dislike City hunters. I dont see what everyone else sees. I think you are all blinded by the Minho’s good looks. Yea, he’s great looking, but I don’t think his face is GODLY. lol.
I also dislike Heartstrings. Everything is fail. Park Shin Hye over acts like crazy and CNBLUE (ugh I just forgot his name) underacts in the broody way.
Where did all the amazing scripts and actors go?
Comrades was amazing. White Christmas was amazing…
sigh.
@Jo… I will agree with you “City Hunter,” for me is a “B” rated kinda show, as in “B Movie,” Lee Min-ho is IMHO a third rate actor he is no Go Soo, or a Jang Hyuk when it comes to acting, he maybe a handsome guy , but when it comes to acting he lacks still a lot, I grew up watching American cop/detective,super heroes, cartoon, shows, and movies, and to me CH is just a wanna be, the story line is the weakest part, How many times does Nana, have to face death, in order for us to feel emotional invested?
Heartstrings, on the other hand, we are in episode 7 and we still have a drama with an identity crisis, this Love Square is one of the most schizophrenic ones that I have seen, the drama has not committed, to a single story line making this drama another Lie To Me, or Mary Stay Out All Night, apart from the music, the story line and the actors IMHO are falling behind……..
Park Shin Hye was in a car accident!? Does Dramabeans have comments or news stories?
yes, kim yoonmi, they have news on PSH’s accident…
ladies and gentleman,
don’t let bad feelings fester, try raising potatoes!
Bunny Love,
I totally forgot about Jomo’s potato!!!! Thanks for reminding me.
Jomo, is your potato plant still living well?
Who was really trying to grow one also? How is your’s doing?
LOL, something about how you phrased “is your potato plant living well?” made me burst into laughter. Not that potatoes aren’t care worthy plants or anything, it’s just that they aren’t the most glamourous entities of the botanical realm and yet, thanks to Kdramas, it’s gotten to a point where imagining a scene with burgler holding a plant pot with a blossomed potato in it and threatening: “Give me your gold or your potato suffers!” isn’t quite as far fetched as it would have been 6 months ago
@ahjummabunny: why suddenly the mention of the potatoes?
@MJP: Me, too…forgot about Jomo’s potato…how was it?
@Silver:
“…thanks to Kdramas, it’s gotten to a point where imagining a scene with burgler holding a plant pot with a blossomed potato in it and threatening: “Give me your gold or your potato suffers!” isn’t quite as far fetched as it would have been 6 months ago”
LOL!
” your potato or your life?”
HAHAHA! Yes! And the answer, naturally: “Take me, we don’t kill potatoes in this house!”
yeah! hahaha! silver, you rock!
I just watched episode 12 of best love when after jin and and seri have their break up he tells her to try growing a potato. It was so profound! lmao
Finally! This all makes sense to me! Woohoo for catching up on Best Love!
Oh my goodness!
I’ve just started watching the second half of Baby-faced Beauty (after getting busy with other dramas for a while there-sorry BFB but I’m back on board now). Anyway what impelled me to stop mid-episode and comment here is the fact I can’t get over what the Team Leader is wearing. I’m no fashionista myself but even I know it’s wrong, wrong, wrong.
Hurrah for Daniel and Jang Na Ra though:)
I just saw an interview of daniel choi I totally wanted to marry him right then! he is such a sweetheart. I hope he meets a nice woman.
And wouldn’t it be great if it was one of us! I’m going to South Korea in October so will be on the look out:)

I’m on OT (overtime) again on a rainy Saturday afternoon, but never mind. Here’s the open thread! How is everyone?
I’ve just concluded my second month of daily Amaya recaps xD and no end in sight as yet. They said it was going to run for over 20 weeks. I’ve grown up listening to and watching daily soap operas, but I’ve realized how hard it is to recap them xDD Well, at least I am recapping Amaya, not the original Mara Clara (five days a week from 1992 to 1997), so I should count my blessings!
I haven’t watched a K-drama in a while, but I’ve been rerunning my copy of the Taiwanese drama The Prince Who Turned into a Frog xDD /kicks work schedule
Hi Laya,
So how good is The Prince Who Turned into a Frog? I’m afraid it may be uninteresting. I was going to use the word hokey, but I’m not sure if you know that word. It’s my first choice word though.
MJP! <3
Hokey = kind of corny? xDD The Taiwanese have their own style of drama which is different from the Korean. I watched parts of this on TV years ago [dubbed locally] but never got around to finishing it, so… it's funny in parts, and cute in parts. There are some nice scenes and some lovely shots, I hated their tendency to do this multiple-angle replay of people to emphasize certain scenes, and fumed at both leads getting amnesia at one time or another. Laughed at the part where the guy helps the girl and her neighbors to fight for the preservation of the local hotel against the developers who'd foreclosed on it and want to demolish it, not knowing he's the one who foreclosed on it in the first place because he'd gotten amnesia. Laughed at the moms' exaggerated tendency to nag and quarrel, because everyone tunes out after a few seconds and you just get fast-forwarded squeaks and assorted symbols floating around. Well, a lot of it is done in this exaggerated style really, but I noticed the Taiwanese dramas I've watched have a tendency to do that. And I've always had a soft spot for Ming Dow, the male lead.
Hi laya….so you are recapping “Amaya”. That’s wonderful! Yes, I know! The original Mara Clara was that long? Whoa! Hahaha! And I think for 2 years of that they were just looking for the diary, hehehe. I have not watched “Amaya” yet. Is it any good? Frankly, I have an aversion to the lead actress playing the title role. Nothing personal. She does not look like a native at all. But I will try to read your recap…and see if it will catch my fancy. If you were to sell the show, how would you package it in one sentence? Website, please. Salamat!
Hi samgetang! You know about Mara Clara? Hahaha! I grew up with that soap, along with the characters, so yeah, it was that long, even with Eruel Tongco dying and all. That diary really gave them the runaround for a long time, didn’t it?
One sentence? But there’s so much more to say about Amaya — a drama that brings to life for the first time the pre-colonial Philippines (before 1521), as it chronicles the life of a princess-turned-slave who strives to avenge her father and her tribe, only to learn that she is destined to do much more.
My name’s linked to my blog, so just click it
Salamat, laya. I saw the website! Amazing! DB has given birth to a local version. The premise of Amaya is fascinating. Creating new mythologies is what we need to do to increase the appreciation among our own people for our own arts and culture. Who wrote the script for this show? Very courageous. Are you recapping just this show for now? I know it must be hard and its already epi 40! Wow! How about local films? Do you plan to do a review of them as well? Or you are limiting yourself to teleseryes for now? How about the shows from the other networks?
The writer for Amaya is Ms. Suzette Doctolero, who also wrote the GMA fantaseryes especially Encantadia and Mulawin, I think. I love that woman’s imagination– both series were wonderful. She’s visited the blog already and made her presence known in one of the posts, and she hangs out at the Pinoy Exchange thread on Amaya as well.
Yes, we’re planning to do local films as well– my co-blogger and webmaster Alquanna is probably going to be doing more of that. I’m keeping my eyes open for Time of my Life, which should start airing in August. As of now, I’m kind of limited to GMA shows because my TV can’t pick up ABS-CBN shows, and it’s hard to find updated vids of local shows… I had to wait till someone posted the Amaya episode I’d missed when I had the flu, before I could recap it, and it took a few days. I’m hoping to find a co-blogger who watches ABS-CBN shows [and can write well].
Actually, I wish I’d started this blog earlier, if only to dissect Captain Barbell
Hi laya. Im so behind with local shows. I have not watched any of that networks shows. And if ever Im able to watch tv Im usually glued to the other network, hehe. I noticed there are not much comments left in the episode recap posts…do local viewers check the online recaps? I wish the show would promote your site so intelligent discussion haha is sparked for the show. I read your open letter to the cinemalaya organizers and I agree wholeheartedly with you and your partner’s take on making the shows more available for more people. In this flatworld, as Thomas Friedman calls the 21st century world, those who fail to flow with the fluid and highly digital world will fail to ride with the new winds. In short, no sense in being too wary of being copied. The goal is to be so fast that those who copy you will remain copying while you keep innovating ahead of the pack. The other network has iwanttv.com, how about amaya’s network (calling, izzie!) do they have the same where you can watch online previously aired shows?
Mmmm, I dunno if local viewers read recaps except if they missed an episode or something. They’re mostly silent about it, unless they talk about it in social networking sites and forums; in contrast, we get more readers from outside the country who are interested in the local shows but can’t watch them or watch them but can’t understand Filipino. Which is why we’ve geared towards a style that accommodates them, explains the cultural references and all that.
When I first talked about wanting to do the site, I got many negative comments from online friends and acquaintances who said that local shows were “jologs” and not of very good quality which is why they prefer to watch the foreign ones. It was disheartening, but Alquanna and I figured that it was also a good reason to do the site so that we could discuss what the shows were doing right and what they were doing wrong. I know that there are really hokey dramas, but there were also gems like Pangako Sa Yo, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, Makita Ka Lang Muli ( a personal favorite), and the fantaseryes like Encantadia. If I were to go back in time, I’d want to recap stuff like the original Gimik, Spirits, and Adik Sa Yo (another personal favorite).
Well that’s the problem with Pinoys’ perception of our local products – not only TV shows – they’re commonly regarded as “jologs” or substandard. Sometimes, learning about people becoming very interested in our local shows (for example, Encantadia, which pulled a very strong following) surprises me too. But I must admit that many of the locally-produced shows make me cringe. Two of the recent shows that I’m not happy about (an understatement) are Capt. Barbell and Machete. I think Aljur beats Mr. Hand Towel in the wooden acting category, which is very much ‘bagay’ to his role in Machete, the wooden statue that comes to life at night (or whenever, I’m not sure). And Capt. Barbell reminds me of a Halloween costume party. (I’m SO biting the hand that feeds me.) No, I’m not gonna proceed with commenting on the acting skills of RG, lest I face the ire, not of his fans, but of his mother.
“do they have the same where you can watch online previously aired shows”
Yup. But it was initially offered to Pinoys abroad. I’m not sure of the current status of that service. However, up-to-date clips of our network’s shows are now available via the Video Message Service (VMS) for smartphones.
Apart from the soaps, Survivor Philippines also have a recap/discussion site. I was an avid follower of the first season.
Hehe Izzie I know there are substantial reasons why they think the shows are jologs, but then again, not all of them are. You just mentioned my pet peeve, CB. This one and even the previous one. Idk who writes the script for this one– I don’t even like what they’ve made of Teng! There are so many things that just go wrong with that show even without the actor issue– I believe I posted something on that on the blog a while back. Add to that the fact that I already guess what the actors are going to say even before they say it– just… so bad. And they could do so much more with the material– Captain Barbell and Machete are already classics. When I think of Return of Iljimae…
LOL, Aljur vs. Mr. Hand Towel. “Baby love my baby love” has begun playing in my mind. Ugh. To think that the Starstruck season that Aljur and Kris were in was the only season I watched from start to finish– and now they’re stars *cough Time of my Life cough*
And I also loved Survivor Philippines. I miss Paolo, the way I miss JC de Vera.
Hi laya!
On behalf of the ♥ network, thank you for watching and recapping Amaya. I don’t get to watch the show, though, coz the time it airs is the time I am on my way home from work. I am not a fan of the actress as a person either, but I admire her acting skills.
What I also admire is your watching-recapping stamina. OMGoodness, 40 episodes already, and you’re still at it! Writing + screengrabs galore. Which is why I admire (and thankful as well to) JB and GF too (and the rest of the DB team).
Aja aja!
Hi izzie! Thank you! And tell the network thanks for bringing us Amaya– it’s kind of a wish of mine that came true, and we say so on our “about the blog” page.
Hehe, I wished the networks said how many episodes Pinoy dramas have, like the Korean networks say that a certain drama has 16 or 20 episodes. As it is, I usually do everything I can to not render OT on weeknights, just so I can go home in time to watch Amaya
I will relay your message to the chairman. He has this “send the chairman a message” thing, which is very useful for sending our gratitude as well as concerns.
I’m sure the entertainment dept. will be glad to learn about your site too.
Our soaps usually run for three months. If they garner good ratings, they get extended up to six months. Gone are the Anna Karenina/Mara Clara days when shows lasted for years and they didn’t even have season breaks. (I, for one, wanted to get hold of that pesky diary and burn it to make the story move on.) It seems local networks learned to do it as Koreans do – keep ‘em short. I guess this is also an answer to the decreasing attention span of Pinoys.
The upcoming dance drama series looks interesting because it’s going to pit Jean Garcia against Cherie Gil. However, I have the concern/worry that at some point, the drama will show gun-wielding characters too, which is a Pinoy drama staple. bleh.
Three months
With two already gone, does that mean we’ve got only one more month of Amaya, possibly extended to four…? O_O That’s… 20 to 80 more episodes.
You know what, the very first trailer of TOML already got me hooked… that “buhay minsan ay parang isang sayaw” one. I’m looking forward to it. And Raymond Bagatsing! <3 He got quite a lot of fans as Amaya's father (Babaaaaa!!!), so I'm sure people will be looking forward to seeing him again.
We really can't help it with the guns, sigh. Do we get "sa akin ang Pinas" style faceoffs as well?
Haha Izzie, I wonder why no one's nudged GMA-7 to air Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Dream High? /nudge nudge We've got Gourmet coming up, SG's ending this week, and Temptation of Wife is still going strong for the second time "by request" /makes a face. I forgot what's replacing SG though.
“what’s replacing SG.”
It’s either Gourmet or Daemul.
I tried to convince someone I know from the selecting team to get DH & SKKS, but I heard that these dramas didn’t get favorable reviews from the rest of the team. I SO want to know the criteria. (So those dramas go to the network that aired Gumiho.) I’m not sure but I’ve heard that we got BL and LTM. And PK, gaining good ratings also surprises me, since I didn’t have the tolerance to watch it after four or five episodes.
“possibly extended to four…? O_O That’s… 20 to 80 more episodes.”
aja, aja! hwaiting!
Must be Daemul, since I was disappointed that Gourmet was to be aired in the afternoon and not the evening. So those two shows are going to the other network. I thought SKKS and DH were more your line. I’m still sort of mad that you didn’t get Gumiho after Shining Inheritance *sob, cry* Yes, I’d like to know the criteria too– ratings? Because there’s Temptation of Wife airing twice. o_O Or are they going to do a Meteor Garden where it aired on the other network first and then they aired it as well?
On the plus side, that means the two dramas will reach the rural areas especially Vismin.
Like the place where I grew up, where the only TV signal is from that network [and the reason why my family members are all rabid kapamilya, although Jumong and Jewel in the Palace changed their outlook a bit on that]. On the good side, you did say BL, right? Not excited about LTM, but BL is going to be a very good reason to tune in. Oh, and PK– lol, that reminds me that I overheard some college kids at the local 7-11 discussing which of them looks like Oh Hani the most [and complaining about the name, haha, because it sounds like "oh, honey"].
wow! looks like I was away just when the discussion started heating up around here. i know what you both mean. it’s a chicken and egg thing. our local entertainment industry is lackluster because the viewers are not fully supporting it or is it that the viewers are not exactly enamored by the offerings on tv and film by local prodn outfits. i guess both. it reflects how much we or we dont really truly appreciate our own country and its artists/culture. See, we even get to talk about it here in a kdrama site. Huhu! I remember that even before kdrama had the first birth pangs, Philippine cinema already had its golden age with the directors like manuel conde (genghis khan) and lino brocka (tinimbang ka..). many things seem to be against us. but no reason for things not to pick up. maybe this is the start…people like laya aiming to help the local industry and hence the local culture in her/their own little way. laya, i would like to help but dont know how. izzie, in my own humble opinion, the other network have better scriptwriters and actors that is why they excel in drama. their acting workshops (now helmed by erstwhile Direk Rahyan…previously from your network, right?) seem to produce better thespians. In your network the stories and acting are not as good but there is courage from the management to produce/put up innovative prodns ie period and thematic pieces with the likes of amaya…h/ever they lack acting excellence and script is not as good that is why the trifecta that JB often mentions (directing/acting/writing) is always lacking mostly in all 3 and they just make do with “bonggang” costumes/set design. if your network can get A-list scriptwriters and directors, your current pool of artists can really hack it. If I want acting chops I watch MMK…this has got to have the most moving portrayals of our local actors old and new. And many of its episodes/actors have been recognized in Asian circles so we know they are making a mark. I wish that network would also dare to make the same brave in-roads that the other network has done in terms of big budget/period pieces like amaya that touches on our history/race. with their pool of writers and talents and their marketing pizzazz they can really make a mark in the industry even int’lly. Perhaps a collaboration should take place?
Guys, maybe we should continue this discussion over a cup of coffee?
let me know if you are in Makati area hehe…
@samgetang: LOL! Hmm. Now how do I comment about this one without getting my arse in trouble at work?
We probably should have this discussion over coffee (or soju), coz this is gonna be a looong conversation.
As for the collaboration, as laya said, I don’t think it’s possible esp. for a tv series. A movie? Probably, but that’s gonna produce a working environment that only production people with balls of steel forged in Mt. Doom can handle.
@izzie:
LOL! izzie, girl. i worked with koreans for about 10 years but I was only cajoled to drink soju once. our tuba was way way more intense! not that i drank more than a few sips of that either, haha. but for you i might hazard another bottle errr glass of soju!
but before we go into a drunken discussion…PM me pls when we can have that coffee/soju thing. Im a stone’s throw away from the malls in mkt…or if laya can make it…qc might be a better choice, right?
trinoma? im good with that… im all over the metro anyway so im often in qc, too. ano ginagawa ng mrt? hehe.
Collaboration, samgetang? Hehe. Now that would be something, although there’s the “network war” factor to get over. Although I grew up watching kapamilya, I also like that kapuso is innovating– Mulawin, Encantadia, Majika (which was a women’s rights drama through and through for all that it was fantasy; also, Dennis Trillo), Atlantika, Amaya… But I don’t want to prefer just one network– if both were available to me I’d probably switch channels often! Part of the problem really is that mostly both are not available to the viewers at the same time, so that people end up watching the one with the better signal– when I’m here in Manila I can only watch kapuso because for some reason I can’t get the other network’s signal, and when I’m at my parents’ I can only watch kapamilya for the same reason. And then the people to whom both channels are available– usually through cable– watch other channels like HBO and Star World instead and think the local ones are jologs.
Haha you’re in Makati? I’m in QC though. Layo! But who knows.
Izzie, does kapuso release official DVDs of dramas? I’d like to get my hands on Adik Sa Yo and Makita Ka Lang Muli if there’s a DVD
(Sorry, Dennis Trillo fangirl. Also JC de Vera.
)
“does kapuso release official DVDs of dramas? I’d like to get my hands on Adik Sa Yo and Makita Ka Lang Muli if there’s a DVD”
Yup. But only for selected dramas. I’ll ask corp. comm. if they still have DVD copies of dramas for sale. (Although they are also available in music/video stores.) I’m not sure if Adik Sa’Yo and MKLM have DVD releases, though. I’ll let you know, Friday at the latest.
@laya: i know, right? its easier for the earth to spin in the opposite direction than for rival networks to do collaborative work. haven’t they heard of coopetition? hehe. what’s with the poor channel reception/signal? maybe that’s why ppl enoy watching online more and more because of this. we have skycable at home and with all the choices i dont get to watch the local channels at all. im mostly tuned to the news channels like ANC and channel news asia. gma news tv, sometimes. and the other foreign news channels for some global perspective. history, bio, discovery, too. i find im watching kbs world more and more even when im busy doing something and i just need a background noise…but lately the shows are very engaging like the variety and reality shows. i like their documentary shows.
many of my friends say Dennis Trillo is one good natural actor and they are in the advertising and film industry so i respect their preference/opinion. i have yet to watch him in a show/film though. JC de Vera, is he the other talent of Ruffa and Richard G’s mom?
dear izzie! i think we need to support laya in her/their crusade to promote local shows especially those being produced in high-quality like your network’s amaya. maybe articles about the writer and BTS entertainment news might boost the site and consequently the production/show and the network’s thrust to promote better shows. just my suggestion.
is there any way we can help you, laya, let me know please. PM me please at samgetangph@gmail.com. tnk
Thanks so much samgetang!
I’ll keep you in mind! Do you perchance like to recap ABS-CBN shows? /blink blink
Im not watching any of the networks shows right now either so that would be difficult. But I will keep my eye open if anything catches my fancy and I will let you know. Thanks, laya. It would really be an honor to recap a show that our local writers/directors/actors have put their heart and soul in…I watched one or two episodes of 100 days in heaven and I was amazed at the little girl’s acting chops….great show if it was able to draw out that kid’s artistry for everyone to see/enjoy….hmmm….
I’ll see what I can do to help.
I’ll check if we are allowed to share stuff from the internal company magazine.
I saw a bit of 100 days earlier today, and I agree that the little girl has serious acting skills. What is the show about, btw? It’s the first time I’ve seen Smokey Manaloto since… Tropang Trumpo. I felt like I was zapped back to the 90′s.
@izzie: from what i can gather from the trailers and the few times ive seen the show, im not sure… but i think the character of coney reyes was a mean boss and she was allowed to come back to earth after her sudden death to redeem herself by doing good to the people she did wrong in 100 days (hence the title). but she came as the little girl which explains why the girl acts as if she was an adult and a bitchy one at that, haha. this girl made body switchin’/soul swappin’ really cool, i think. (im suddenly reminded of Secret Garden and how the switch resulted to awkward acting from the leads…this set-up really really requires serious acting skills! writers, dont attempt this if your actors are less than excellent!its sure to make you cringe if served half-baked, hehe)
as for smokey, i think the last i saw him was in the tv series home along da riles, haha…tropang trumpo, is that a movie?
I’m relatively new to this site and this is my first time posting on an open thread.
What I want to know is- what are people thinking Scent of a Woman is going to be like? I’m really excited for it since I like both of the leads but what do you guys think?
Also, any idea whether dramabeans will be recapping it??
Also, I’m watching City Hunter and am I the only one who thinks Yoon-Sung is either going to die or go to prison? I mean I don’t want him to but… either way, I hope the ending is done well!
Hi Ren!
Welcome to the OT. I’m currently too tired to think or research, but if you type it in in the seach box in the header, you can review their articles to see if they are going to cover it.
Also, you may find a preview on youtube for it, if you look. Sometimes, you have to type the title in Korean to find it though. I use Bing Translator.
I hope this helps.
You know, I have been reading the postings about the show, but I have no idea what it’s going to be like. Every time I see the name, I get confused because it’s supposed to be like last holiday. Then I think maybe she can’t smell women, or he can’t smell women, or her disease is one that makes it impossible for her to smell. I have no idea what to expect.
I don’t think yoon sung will end up in prison. It seems to me if that was the objective he wouldn’t have just revealed himself, he would’ve been caught in either the next episode or the last one. I think it’s the kind of thing where young ju will tell him I’ll let you wrap this up, but don’t let me catch you in the act. I think these episodes are necessary to show young ju that everything isn’t black and white in the law and he an yoon sung are on the same side.
Wait, aj, are you trying to apply LOGIC to a k-drama title? personally, i think they use the same technology involved in those authentication “type the words you see” images – a random collection of vaguely recognizable syllables.
Example: City Hunter.
Interesting. I think Yoon Sung will die because it will make it more tragic and Korean dramas like tragedy… oh well, we’ll find out later this week!

I just found this one on dramacrazy. It sounds like something you may have watched. Have you seen it?
Aishiteru (Japanese Drama)
Description: Typical mother Noguchi Satsuki spent her days trying to balance her life as a wife to her hard-working husband Kazuhiko and mother to their only son Tomoya, a seemingly withdrawn fifth-grader with whom Satsuki struggled to communicate. Seiko and Ozawa Hideaki, living in the same neighborhood as the Noguchi family, were raising a rebellious junior high school daughter Mihoko and their first son Kiyotaka a second-grader who was showered with much love and affection by his mother. On that ill-fated day when Kiyotaka was reported missing and was later found dead, Tomoya was taken into custody by police as the prime murder suspect. Tomoya slowly begins to open up about his innermost feelings as the hidden truth reveals the true motive behind his cruel act of violence. Satsuki, as mother of the perpetrator, comes face-to-face with her son?s true self while Seiko, as mother of the victim, deals with her sorrow and anger. –NTV

This is one J-dorama that I have not have not watched yet, I remember when it first came out but never made time to watch this particular one.
One of my all time favorite J-doramas is “Orange Days,” the lady who wrote Orange Days is the same one who wrote “A Million Stars Falling From The sky,” after OD I was looking at her work and that’s how I came across AMSFFTS, Orange Days is a beautiful romantic/slice of life drama, the same lady wrote “Hard to say I love you,” with Korean actor/singer Hero Jaejoong, and she also wrote the K-drama “Heaven’s Postman.” from the Telecinema series……
Amg1,
Hmmm, I’ll scan it to see if I like it. 1 mil stars didn’t interest me, but Orange Days, seems interesting.
Hey, THANKS!!!!!
*Baring It All*
I have lost love ones in the past to illnesses, so it was nice to come across a documentary, that deals with the pain of almost losing ones life, while surviving trough very thin odds.
In the documentary “Baring It All,” from the Style Chanel series “ Style Exposed,” deals with breast cancer survivors and David Jay’s “Scar Project,” it is one of the most moving and hope inducing, programs that I have ever watched………..
Enjoy…….link…….http://www.watchseries-online.com/2011/07/style-exposed-1×1-baring-it-all.html
Happy OT everyone!
Does anyone know where to watch Tears of the Dragon with E-subs?
Bah, good Sunday to all!
I’m chasing CH, and caught up to E10. Bawling like a kindergardener watching LYS’ mom sick w/ cancer holding onto her baby boy’s pj’s… and ahjusshi’s tearful secret confession to YS. Gawd, life’s just not fair. Don’t kill the mother Show.
TT , TT
Happy Sunday All!
I have now caught up on all my comments (I think!). It only took me a couple of hours. lol! Friday I refrained from turning on my laptop at all in deference to the oppressive heat and the ConEd power grid. Yesterday was the family BBQ. Had a lot of fun, got bit, got scratched by my late great-aunt’s cat (the cousin that hosted is her oldest daughter in the area and so took the cat), ate mostly w/in reason and laughed a lot. The little ppl couldn’t believe I was as old as I am, and the slightly older ppl presumed that I was a lot younger than I am. Overall, great time! I did some reading of the OT via phone (I’m telling you, Rick TRH, column view on my blackberry has changed my e-life) but otherwise only kept in touch with the real world
I hope everyone else’s weekend’s gone just as well, and I hope we all have a stress free week. Fighting!
Oh, and Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle/All That Glitters….why did you have to be so good for so long, Show? Now I can’t skip ahead of the makjang parts. *sniffle*
happy sunday prindler and have a great week. Fighting!
I should get a blackberry just so I could see it for myself
Happy week ahead, cmr!
It seems wrong to tempt you to the Dark Side, YRH. They’re not called crackberries for no reason.
Oh, no no no.
The Dark Side? Totally my thing!
My Spy persona is a regular lurker on that turf.
It’s where I mastered the Vibrating Buttocks Kung Fu discipline and was endowed with superior Biological knowledge
I’m speaking nonsense, aren’t I?
ahh the vib-butt! they haven’t appeared for sometime.
Vib-butt ^.^
LOL. An acronym I should have thought of.
And yes, the vib-butt went missing for a few weeks, Bunny.
Well this is interesting. I’d just finished up watching the anime of Ouran High School Host Club (which is pretty funny if you haven’t seen it), and now I’ve just stumbled upon the fact that the Japanese are currently doing a live version of the show. Which makes me wonder if Korean TV would consider doing it.
I liked Ouran the anime version
It was funny and I think the borderline incestuous identical twins were a hoot!
*Religion+Politics Norway2011*
(The Past/Future Is Here)
Most people around here do not remember, or never hear about;
1- The death of Ernesto “Che” Guevara on October 9, 1967
2- “Masacre de Tlatelolco.”the October 2, 1968.
3- The 1969 Northern Ireland riots, that gave birth to The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA).
4- Munich massacre. 1972.
What do all this this episodes in history have in common with what happen in Oslo Norway on July 22 2011?
Well before I answer that question, a more simple question would be this; “Can we ever used physical violence, in order to achieve ones goals?”
Unfortunately there are people not only in this blog, but all around this world that believe that; “Violence as a valid form of action, since the “Cause justified the means.”
Since ancient times Religious and Philosophical thought have dictated the course of action, from the time of the Babylonians to modern day time Ideology in all its incarnations has been the culprit, in the ever struggle of human survival.
I consider myself a very “Spiritual” person. But I hate religion as much as I hate politics, by the way I believe that spirituality can be practice without being religious. In the words of the great Prophet Jesus; “Give unto Cesar what belongs to Cesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”
Most wars have two aspects one is the secular aspect, the other is the religious one. Hitlers war is a clear example of a war in which we can see, both aspects working in action, while trying to crate a global empire base in the superiority of material goods, and also creating a superior race as dictated by the “Gods.”
Many people have accused the “Prophet Jesus,” the so called founder of Christianity as the source and founder of “Christian Fundamentalism,” and Xenophobic attitudes towards the people who do not follow his teachings, but the people who subscribe to this views IMHO have never read the words “In Red,” and are not familiar with the teachings of this Great Prophet, but as in the times of Constantine The Great, his simple message of “Do unto others as you will like others to do unto you,” or “A new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another,”
John 13:34-35.
I have spent the better part of my adult life studying, Religion, Philosophy, and Politics, I have found out that from most religious thought, the simple teachings of the “Historical Jesus,” and the tenets of “Ahimsa, as practice in (Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism), are few of “Pacifist” writings in nature, when it comes to religious dogma. Both of this religions do not condone or promote the used of Violence as lifestyle, who ever uses the teachings of the Prophet Jesus, and that of the Ahimsa religion, IMHO has made a mockery of their core tenets of Faith, no where in their teachings do we ever find, a call for murder or violence against their fellow man, what so called Christians did during the Infamous Crusades, what Radical Islamist are doing against the true massage of Islam, what so called Christians and Catholic did against each other in Ireland in the name of God, further more what Turkey did against the Armenians, what NATO and the US have done in Afghanistan and Iraq, last but not the least what Anders Behring Breivik, has done in Norway in the name of the teachings of the Prophet Jesus, is nothing short than Blasphemy, to blame the Prophet Jesus for all the evils in this world, should be a shame to us all. It is a tragedy that some thinkers go out of their way to tarnished the legacy of a Prophet that change the religious landscape of humanity @ 2000+ years ago…..
I meant no disrespect to anyone!!!! : 0 ]
*Edit* “A in the time of Constantine,” till the present time the message of the this Great Prophet has been misinterpreted, and used as another form to control the masses.
How could you guys add 100 posts in one day???? It’s weekday time. You are all amazing!
Happy week to all!!!!!
Easy! Check the OT in between classes, during lunch and after work
Cheerful week to you too, MJP!
