Su Ae cast in Kim Soo-hyun’s Forget Me Not

Looks like the first big star is lined up for highly anticipated drama Forget Me Not, from star writer Kim Soo-hyun (Life Is Beautiful). The lead role will be played by Su Ae, who is one of those rare actresses who is awesome at EVERYTHING: drama, comedy, action. I haven’t seen her mime, but I bet she’s good at that too.

I think I love her best when she’s light and breezy a la Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs, but she kicked some serious ass in Athena, despite all the boys around her being super lame. It looks like she’ll mostly be stretching her melodrama muscles for this project though, as she will be playing a character who is slowly losing her memory.

I know what you’re thinking — is the male lead going to have a rapidly increasing memory, so they’ll be diametric opposites like every k-drama ever? No, no memory superpowers for him. He’ll be the “absolute pure” soul who stays by her side and takes on the burden of her failing memory because he loves her.

Whoa, that sounds… not light, that’s for sure. I envision many tears, at floodgate volumes. If this is the story, I’m not sure if I want Song Seung-heon to be the frontrunner for the male lead, just because he’s played this guy A LOT. Many many times, over many many years, and I was just starting to think he was getting somewhere on the rom-com train.

Though the male lead has yet to be finalized, a child actor has been cast. Yang Han-yeol, aka Ding Dong of Best Love, will be joining the production, though there are no details yet on his character. He did a great job as Dokko Jin’s only friend who championed his relationship with Ae-jung, and I’m glad his run as Pororo hawker kid matchmaker scored him another high profile role. I don’t think I’ll ever forget his particularly heartbreaking apology for selling his buddy up the river for a bucket of doughnuts. Heh.

Forget Me Not will take over Warrior Baek Dong-soo‘s Monday-Tuesday slot on SBS in September.

Now that I know the premise, I’m a little warier of this drama, but we’ll see what the tone is like at the outset. There’s a chance that it’s a funny, uplifting kind of memory loss, right? Er… right?

Aww yeah, I love Su Ae. Wary of SSH's acting chops, or lack thereof though. And Ding dong! He makes everything better! :D

Su Ae sucks! She is neither charming nor pretty. In addition, her acting is bad. Her face can not express anything. She makes the drama less interesting. I hope the male lead and story are better to save the drama.

I loved Song Seung-heon in My Princess and I really haven't liked any of his serious roles ;^;

I will watch this drama if Song Seung-heon isn't cast as the male lead D:

You know who should be cast as the male lead? :O
Lee Min Ho!!!
Now i would LOVE to see him & Su Ae :) OMG... the thought of it is making me jizz my pantsu!!!

Well i would prefer anyone but Song Seung-heon ._.

So who's the one losing the memory? SSH? Maybe he'll slowlyyyy become more and more convinced he is not who he is. The climax of the drama? When he shouts in typical SSH-fashion, while flinging the wastepaper basket against the wall: "You're all lying to me! I forgot my true identity but I remember now! I'm a towel! I've always been a towel!"

OMG! He will finally be able to see the cotton that is himself!

And NO! Do NOT cast The Hand Towel in this, or better yet, Hand Towel-shi, do NOT take this role. It'll be horrible for your career.

Memory loss is funny if Dory is playing it, right?
It is NOT funny in Memento. NOT.AT.ALL.

And whoever thought of CSW, YES! He is connected to her insofaras she was in Athena. He is connected to DingDong, too.

But how about my new favorite, Lee Sang Yoon? He was in Life is Beautiful and The Duo.

Though I would prefer him to be in something light, too.

I love Soo Ae! Her acting is amazing, and she makes me question my sexuality. I'm just kidding. But she's that awesome! I've only watched her through one project, the unsatisfying Sword with No Name, but she was more than great there. I hope the opposite role would be given to someone who can keep up with her. It'll be a shame if she's going to be the only one carrying the drama.

I've never seen Song Seung-hun act but from the many, many complaints here in Dramabeans, I hope it's not given to him. Remembering his interview about recently enjoying acting. WTF? What have you been doing all these years?! Definitely not the actor I want opposite of Soo Ae. He'll drown fosho.

Jeeez. I'm a little surprised at all the hate that SSH is getting if he might take the role. Stop hatin' on my 'oppa'!! One, he's not confirmed yet. Two, he'd be stupid not to take the role especially if this is a Kim Soo Hyun drama. He definitely shined in My Princess but shouldn't all actors have the right to want to improve their technique?

And the eye candy will certainly help the ratings.

I for one, WANT Song Seung Heon to get the role.

Awesome that Su Ae was casted. That makes much more sense that Nam Sang Mi. Not that I have anything against her, but Su Ae is definitely more of big name than Nam. I don't think this will be a comedy because I don't think that Kim Soo-Hyun writes comedies. Still hoping that Song Seung Heon will be cast as the lead because I am waiting to see his next project. The only concern that I have about this drama is that it sounds a LOT like A Moment to Remember. However, we don't know enough about the plot at this time. The other contradiction that I'm seeing is that the male lead is supposed to be the "pure soul" but Kim Soo-Hyun tends to write uncomplementary male roles. Last drama of hers that I watched was Life is Beautiful, and while I enjoyed parts of it, there were a lot of times when the characters really bugged. Hope the characters are more real in this one and not so annoying.

This does remind me of the film A Moment to Remember. Anyway, I have faith that Su Ae can pull off this role, and even though I'm rewatching Best Love, I already miss Ding dong.

I do not want Song Seung Heun for this role because I don't think he can do it. Why not Go Soo though? I miss my guy and even though his character in Will it snow for Christmas? was tragic, I just love seeing him cry. Actually I just want to see his powerful eyes. And the rest of his body too.

I adore Su Ae. She makes me want to bat for the other team (except it's too much work and I'm already tired.)!

First saw her in "Emperor Of The Sea" - my first "biggie" watch of a Korean drama, so I can blame her for my subsequent addiction. The tears. Oh, the tears.

Now this drama for her - encroaching Alzheimer's and a stalwart hottie by her side? Well, on the lighter side of this depressing subject at least every night will be a new one for her and her honey. (Sorry, couldn't help myself...)

Glad to see that Su Ae scored this casting coup, but it'd be a role tailor-made for Choi Ji-woo, our Left-Eyed Teary Queen of Depression.
That slow welling of one tear, and then, DRIP. Magic, no?
:)

I strongly disagree. Kang Ji Hwan is at his best when he is in comedies.

His OTT acting style does not suit melodramas. It was painful enough to watch him act in the melodrama 90 Days Falling in Love a few years ago. Just thinking about him acting in another melodrama gives me hives.

He's great in rom-coms, but melodramas aren't for him IMO.

yay for Soo Ae for getting such a plum role!! I hope SSH doesn't end up doing this drama. I think his strength may be in comedy. I want to see him do a family-oriented comedy - though he's probably too big of a star for that now. Maybe in 40 years, he'll come back to play a grandpa in like the 20th high kick series. It's hard to take him seriously when he gets dramatic.

Someone else mentioned Go Soo- I think he would be perfect and a great match for Soo Ae!

God I loved her in Bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. Her chemistry with the main lead in that drama was really good. For some reason she brings up that Ha Ji won feeling in my mind.

This melodrama sounds promising not just because of Su Ae but also due the the writer who penned Life is Beautiful (hopefully I am thinking of the right one - the one with gay couple). I wish there was another drama like life is beautiful...

SA is great; "Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs" is such an under-appreciated romcom.

Maybe the humor and cute moments aren't as laugh out funny or totally endearing, but the relationship and the daily happenings btwn the 2 leads was very real life-like.

However, while I think SA is a fine actress, I would say that KTH did a better job w/ the crying/emotional scenes in "My Princess" than SA did in "Bottom of the 9th" (that's how good of a job KTH did; much better than HJW in "Secret Garden").

As for "Ding Dong" - absolutely love him!

As good as the scenes were btwn DJ and GAJ in "Best Love", I think I like the scenes btwn DJ and DD even better.

That face/hands splatter on windows that DD did was such a riot.
