Hello! Happy friday!

Why are the guys so good looking in sagueks? Is it the hair? or the grungy outfits?

Or the fact that most of them carry swords around? And can kick butt?

Last night I watched ep 15/16 of WBDS (for the 3rd time! but that's nothing new with me) and I couldn't keep my eyes off Yeo Woon. That kid really knows how to capture your attention even though he hardly says a thing. Plus guyliner really really suits him! And ahh... Ji Chang Wook... to think I never knew he existed!

I have a question on episode ratings on dramawiki. If the rating goes "episode 15 - 19.5 (2nd)", what does "2nd" mean? Is it that the drama was the 2nd most watched at that time of night? or was it second among all the dramas that aired that week?

Hi aoiaheen.

Why are guys so good looking in sagueks? Becoz of their manly hair and they do not wear pink skinny jeans, ankle pants, loafers with no socks, have ridiculous cauliflower hair.

Question: How have you managed to be first two times in a row? I stalk this page but am never first. *scratches head*

I think the (2nd) means it was the second highest show of the day.

" coz they do not wear pink skinny jeans, ankle pants, loafers with no socks, have ridiculous cauliflower hair."..

now this i whole-heartedly second.. sometimes i think the costume designers and hairstylists are jealuos of these hunks and dress them awfully..

didn't watch 'You're Beautiful' coz i couldn't bear JGS's outfits and hairstyle..now, now I love JGS.. "warding off rotten eggs and tomatoes"..

When I watched YB I would have dropped it as I couldn't bear watching JGS in those outfits with a "hair-curtain" up front. Don't know what kept me going, but when it ended, it sure made a big fan of JGS out of me! Miss him so much!

i agree with you soo much. haha. his outfits were horrible, but loved the drama :D

0

'hair curtain' is an apt description piipi..:D

0

I dnt remember if it was the first episode or 2nd but JGS was tocking the Charlie Manson look which made me laugh my head off. But that aside I enjoyed YB. But I can't stand his hair from MSOAN or the movie he is shooting, too girlie for him

0

Everytime he sees a pic of JGS, Mr Shel says, "Who's she?" Now, I think he knows, but at first he really thought it was a girl.

0

I will tell what kept you going... it was the awesomeness of YAB!
... and for the record, JGS outfit there was just so apt with the theme of the story! The drama was an adaptation of an anime and JGS carried it out so well, with those outfit and dark eyes.

0

Am i the only one that liked Lee Minho's and JGS's outfits in city hunter and YAB... XD

Thanks Shiku and luv_KimRaeWon for answering my question.

Question: How have you managed to be first two times in a row? I stalk this page but am never first. *scratches head*

Answer: I pray a lot. :) .

No but seriously. I think its beginner's luck. I was surprised too. But DB posted the open thread at 6:45 am Pacific the last 2 weeks which is just the time that I've already logged in to my network. It helps that I work from home on fridays.

Hear hear! I'm not much for pink pants that are too short with loafers and no socks either. Sageuk-wear is MUCH sexier. I'm not much for cauliflower hair, but I don't like the "I put a bowl on my head and cut it" do, either. Oddly enough I LOVE the long-hair sageuk thing, even though, as a rule, I hate anyone's hair blocking my view of their eyes.

The swords and kick-butt thing are definite helpers, too. I like a guy who can take out the baddies. My honey has a brown-belt in karate. Now if he would just stop killing the bad guys in his sleep, lol. (He has action-movie dreams, I've been whacked by accident more than once)

Sorry about the dream action. Sounds painful. I thought when one dreams they are in REM sleep and their body is paralyzed so there shouldn't be any action sequences.

I wish he was paralyzed. He gave himself bloody knuckles twice punching the headboard. The funniest was the night he literally jumped out of bed, because he was "jumping onto a moving subway train". I laughed and laughed, but he sort of landed on the night table and was in pain for several days.

His days of karate competitions are long over (like 20 years ago), but it all comes in handy wrestling all of our "pseudo grandkids". He's a kid magnet and they all think he's a human jungle gym. Good thing he likes them all right back.

I know! He is just awesome. He is so believable as dong soo. When he cries it really makes my heart ache. And OMG in episode 13 when he discovers Un's betrayal... the fight between the two. He was just so amazing! Such an amazing actor. I'm glad that YSH said no to the part and that Ji Chang Wook got it. YSH would have made a good Dong Soo but I think he shines better as YW anyway. Though I do have some complaints with YSH acting, I think he really has the looks to suit the character YW. The casting director did a good job.

0

Yup, i liked YSH as YW, i think he's perfect for the role, he can transmit the "murderous aura" very well ^^ he can be scary as he can be caring & even sweet =)

Hello everyone and Happy Friday,

I just hope everyone who lives on the Northeast is able to survive the hurricane headed our way this weekend. We have hard severe weather this year from the winter storms, thunderstorms, tonardoes, earthquake to a hurricane. I hope we don't get any more surprises from Mother Nature.

Isn't this such an adorkably awesome marriage proposal?
http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/romance-still-alive-portal-2-proposal-wows-001416958.html

Protect the Boss is so funny and wacky. I just hope they keep it up. This is the first show I don't care who end up with who just as long as they continue bringing the funny. I think I like every character in the show which is a first for me as there is alwqays a character that pisses me off.

WBDS I didnt expect Cho Rip to be Hong Guk Young and now it seems it's like a Yisan prequel. Sky Lord is still as awesome and I hope he doesnt die when he fights Swordmaster.

Gyebaek: still loving it as its awesome. I wasn't expecting the Queen to be at the battleline. Kim Yushin here is an upgrade to the one in QSD (who was potrayed like a simple minded fool).

I also love Protect the Boss! Is anyone else watching it?

But I must say that I do have very definite favorites, and very emphatically want the main couple (phobic boss Ji Heon and kick-ass secretary Eun Sol) to end up together. :-) I'd be nervous if I thought there were any chance of that not happening!

I actually find the female second lead kind of charming - she is so bumbling, helpless and frustrated that it's amusing rather than annoying, simply because she so absolutely is not a threat.

As for Jaejoong's character, though - I don't like him at all. And weirdly enough, I think (and this is only my own personal, subjective opinion!!) that he doesn't *look* good. As in, I don't find this person at all attractive; he sometimes even reminds me of the creepy right-hand man in City Hunter, what with the severe crooked extreme!bangs and the Burning Stare of Malicious Scheming he has going on.

I can tell you that before this show, I considered JJ to be one of the pretty (useless) ones. But I am so taken with him now. The scenes with JH are really natural. I feel like the two are really rival cousins.

BTW, it is interesting that the quartety are playing the same age. IRL, the leads DOB are JS 1977, Choi Kang Hee 1977, JJ 1986 and Wang Ji Hye 1985.

I can see how MJP Hubby would notice the hair! It is very strange, but it works for him.

0

I remember seeing JJ in Dating On Earth and thought he looked a bit maniacal. Have you seen that movie?

Do you think it just circumstancial evidence or do you believe that the K drama 'Powers That Be' hire cast members by their birth years?

0

When I was into Kpop very briefly (umm, like a month before i figured something had to give-- Kdramas or Kpop; it was a relatively easier choice 'coz all that fanservicey thing just doesn't work for me. In fact, I didn't even know what the term meant prior to being introduced to Kpop, heh) I checked out SuJu 'n SS501...i read all abt how gook looking Jaejoong was 'n just didn't feel him...his face screamt "Pwitty!" and I don't do pwitty!

But, in PTB I am feeling him alright!! In Korean talk, "I see Jae as a man now!!" haha...i guess all he needed to be seen as a man in my eyes *wink wink* was a MUCH toned down 'n typical wardrobe and hairdo!! So, I'm gonna be all shameless n say that whenever in onscreen i am totally ogling and lusting after the guy!!ackk

And, Ji Heon + Moo Won= match made in K-drama heaven!! love the bickering and the subtle bromance!! <3

0

0

@Silver,
One fan girl down, several million to go!

0

I figure if I go through them one by one, it's still more proactive in showing my true love than just the regular level creepiness of lurk 'n stalk.

0

Silver/Sylvia -

I totally agree that they will be an awesome pair to behold.
But we need a better word than "sismance," srsly.

0

Womance? :P

0

This is YY's forte, actually.
Let me get a look at what Mr. Thesaurus gives us

Woman
Miss/Mrs./Ms., daughter, femme, gal, gentlewoman, girl, grandmother, lady, madam, matron, mother, she, sister
amiga, amigo, associate, boon companion, bosom buddy, bro, brother, buddy, chum, companion, comrade, connate, crony, cuz, good buddy, homeboy, homegirl, mate, sidekick, sis, sister

Pair
brace, combination, combine, combo, couple, deuce, doublet, duality, duo, dyad, match, mates, span, team, twins, two, two of a kind, twosome,

Romance
affair, affair of the heart, amour, attachment, courtship, enchantment, fascination, fling, flirtation, intrigue, liaison, love, love story, passion, relationship

The K word for woman is YEOJA

So you can throw that in to your blender of words, too.

0

Gal-mour? Miss-match? Sis-ship? Sis-deuce? Femmates?

I suck.

YY, if ye be the queen of amalgamations, please show yourself and rescue us from another series of unfortunate names!

0

JJ to me is average looking but he does look sharp in his suits

Mmmmmhhh female version of bromance.....

Shemance? LOL

0

@Silver - Femmates? Bwaaa aha aha hahahahahaha!
What? Are they doing time together?

I think we are getting closer - just by the process of elimination.

@Shiku Shemance, however, could involve men with lady parts.

What about Gal-mance? Feel free to laugh at me!

0

Femance?
:)

0

I think Silver's idea "womance" is very good! I vote for that. :-) It's not like "bromance" is such a great-sounding word, so it's very true to type.

0

Wait a minute! The IDEA of "womance" is great, but doesn't it sound like Elmer Fudd is saying it?
:)

0

Bramance, haha :P This is getting out of hand >_<

I rather like womance too, Elmer Fudd tonality and all :P

@Jomo: Well, the Femmates can be a couple of bad, bad girls :P

0

I first saw him in Heaven's Postman, and I instantly had a crush on him. Actually, I prefer how he looks in Postman than in PTB. I haven't seen much of PTB yet - just browsing, since my attention right now can only accommodate Scent of a Wookie - but from what I've seen I think I'd be v. addicted to this drama as well. :)

0

The K word for woman is YEOJA

So you can throw that in to your blender of words, too.

*gives it a try*

Yeomance?

*shakes head*

Uh! Okay! YY, your help is direly needed here.

0

Actually I agree that JJ isn't that attractive in this drama and he is actually one of my Kpop biases (that voice ohmygod) but generally he is really good looking. The thing with Jaejoong is that he can be borderline between being handsome or too pretty for a dude and photographs really well. However, even though he is good looking he has one of those faces that will really show exhaustion especially under the harshness that is a HD video camera especially those very large eye bags and considering how hard he is working on this drama it's no surprised how tired he is.

I just love that the second female lead is bumbling! She tries to be chic and cool but looses her temper or cries when hurt. The generation factor is fun also. I thought she looked so cool in her funky T-shirt with big jewelry and then her mother criticizes her for being unprofessional. It's like she trying to be herself and pursue her love but is being thwarted. I'd like to see her come into her own here.

It also helps that Ji Heon is so focused on Eun Sol that she is no threat.

It's my current favorite, though I just started watching CYHMH and am loving that as well.

It's as if the writers are making her "one of the boys" so she can't work her wiles on them.

Loved when she told the boys to "Shut up!" twice in the elevator. You could hear the missing "the eff" between the lines.

So glad that actress gets to show off her comedic talents. She is killing this role.

A commenter spoke of her love of elevator scenes in PTB. That was one of my favorite.

0

Required fields are marked *

Agree with both of you! Because she is so completely not a threat, she's amusing and even endearing. From her point of view, after all, this is really a very sad tale, with her courageous sallies for personal happiness foiled at every turn, and nobody paying any attention to her while everyone runs after that tough scary woman who nailed poor second lead in the head with a can.

So in a way, she's a virtuous underdog character fighting impossible odds - from her own point of view only, of course, but still, it works on a comedic level. ;-)

0

You know what I'm wishing for? Something hinted at in dramas ever so rarely but never really explored. The female version of the bromance - what is that BFF? Either way a rivalry of sorts that makes the two women realize they'd be awesome friends and actually do become friends. It's an area of human interaction ever so rarely portrayed in dramas, mostly because the majority of second female leads are single minded OPW machines, but you know :P

0

YES! A sismance would be a great thing... it'd given poor second lead some much-needed stability, too. And she'd also get the wrestling girl as another friend into the bargain.

They'd make such a scary team. :-)

0

@Silvia
"So in a way, she’s a virtuous underdog character fighting impossible odds – "

I don't think she is a virtuous underdog as she cheated on Ji Heon with JJ, left Ji Heon with no explanation and turned down JJ when she came back. I think this is karmic payback for her when both of them ignore her and fighting over someone else.

With that side I don't hate her and hopefully she has learned her lesson and I think she will end up with JJ

0

@Shiku

If we're talking karmic payback then she might as well end up with Secretary Kim, not JJ :P Come to think of it, that would be kind of hilarious XD

0

@Shiku - I'm not saying she actually is a virtuous underdog - just that she sees herself as one! That's why it's funny - otherwise, we'd have to feel sorry for her.

0

I like JJ's character, but I find him odd looking. I don't think he's cute at all. I'm not crazy for the new hairstyle, but it's better than the old one.

I expected to hate Yoon Na (is that her name) because the actress played such a nasty character in Personal Taste, but I'm finding it hard to hate her. She's kind of a product of her weird upbringing and is more like a spoiled kid who is used to getting what she wants, rather than actually evil. And she's totally clueless as to why nothing is working out for her. LOVED the scene in the elevator in Ep 7 after the fight. Laugh out loud funny.

Dad and Grandma are pretty funny, non-stereotypical elders, too.

Protect the boss stylist said she was purposely "uglifying" Jaejoong to look older since he's 26 and "too beautiful" and thus younger compared to the cast
In the early episodes you can see the skin tone of JJ's face is much darker than his neck since they were trying to "Age" him

She blogged about it and it kinda upset some people,

i think you can see that in the last two episodes they are definitely letting him look sexisher since i guess the audience didnt like the attempts to uglify him

[TRANS] Protect the Boss Stylist Writes: “Jaejoong is Too Beautiful, So We Must Suppress His Looks.”
Posted on August 6, 2011 by jyj3
The below entry was posted on the official webpage of Protect the Boss by a purported stylist of Jaejoong. In Korea, both Boss and Jaejoong are being met with very favorable reviews. However, no drama is perfect. Jaejoong’s skin tone, artificially toned town, and his clothes and hair color, also uniformly black, have generated some comment (see here). In particular, Jaejoong’s facial skin is noticeably of a different color than the rest of his body, such as his neck and his hands, and this has also prompted some viewers to wish for correction

To this, a stylist replied on the official homepage. To summarize, she wrote that Jaejoong is too beautiful and therefore, in her opinion, his looks must be suppressed.

Jaejoong is the Korean Michaelangelo. His aristocratic, brutally honest manner further enhances his mystique. (Though that holds true with TVXQ 1.0 in general . . . even when they do sexy, there's a regal, blue-blooded charisma that sets them apart.)

Or rather, the male Kim Hye Soo. He loves showing off his tittays. ;)

0

"He loves showing off his tittays"
Lol that reminds me of some of his more painful looking piercings
I heard he gave up on piercings because it was too much of hassle to go through airport scanners

I actually love that JJ is so blunt.
I think for his next role he should be an assassin
based on this it more than suits him

WBDS notes:

1) I love Chun, but he royally screwed over his "pupil" Yeo Woon. Teacher my ass!! While Dong Soo spends 3 years learning from Swordsmaster, Yeo Woon has to make up his own lesson plans and improve by himself.

2) Don't know about you, but I WENT NUTS when Chun flipped over to the good side. Drinking, whooping ass, Chun is the Stone Cold Steve Austin of Sageuk.

3) Yeah, I don't buy the revelation about Jin Ju's dad. Too convenient LOL

4) The fight between Hwang Jin-gi and Chun is one of those super rare sageuk situations where a upcoming fight successfully conveys real dread. You're thinking "Please, PLEASE don't kill her dad. Have Mercy!" You know Jin-gi can't win; he knows he can't win; he is already telling his daughter to escape.

Chun as a lazy teacher: I know! poor YW. I don't think Chun ever personally taught him. But that scene where YW and DS are waiting/meditating/something-cool-whatever to cut falling leaves... how hot was that?

And the fight between Chun and Hwang Jin Gi. Jin Gi did such a good job on that scene. You can see the resignation in his eyes. He know he can't win but he doesn't want to run away.

But with the end of ep 16, it doesn't look like Chun will be the one to kill him. I can only hope that YW doesn't kill JinGi. Hopefully he will do his usual "pretend-kill".

I'm torn between wanting a real killer villain in YW and wanting him to remain redeemable because I want him to live happily at the end. (See... that's the problem with casting someone like YSH for that role. You just can't hate him.)

"I can only hope that YW doesn’t kill JinGi. Hopefully he will do his usual “pretend-kill”."

Yeah, that's point of no return for me. Jin Gi is part of YW's extended family. Moreover, Jin Gi is not involved in their war. He is only trying to protect his family.

I'm starting to tune out YW. The last few episodes, he hasn't really developed as a character. The higher he has climbed, the more passive and docile he has become.

" The higher he has climbed, the more passive and docile he has become."
Yes I know! It's very frustrating. Especially since he is such a key character. It's like the writers are not sure how to make him an assassin and still make us sympathetic with his situation. So thier doing neither. He's just going with the flow and not making any decisions on his own. It's no fun having a villain like that. Chun on the other hand is the perfect bad-guy. A cold-blooded killer, manipulative and eccentric. And now they go and make him a good guy by forcing a parentage on him? The show confuses me.

0

I have to rewatch that fight scene again between Chun & Jin Gi cos I shut my eyes fearing to see slash to kill!
Yes, that meditating part scene of Dongsoo & Yun was spectacularly serene. It felt like they were really connected.
The identity of JinGu's dad surprised me! WBDS...what a beautiful thriller!

Can't get enough of my new-find hot Kdrama actor Ji Chang Wook in WBDS so I'm now marathoning "Smile, Donghae". JCW plays Donghae superbly too!

Did anyone else the the bromance video of Yun & Dongsoo! Who can't help falling in love with these 2 hot guys!

I stalk youtube for more of those. Last week Linda165 posted links to some bromance-works-of-art. It can get addictive. And the chemistry between DS and YW is really good. Much better than chemistry between the OTP.

LOL @ stone cold Steve Austin reference. He was my sis fave wrestler.

I was thinking the same thing Chun should be teaching Woon how to fight but instead he is going round in his quest fighting people. I like the fight he had with the scholar with darts. I was trying to come up with a tag line for the fight but all I could come up with like 'see the pen is mightier than the sword' but it doesnt sound right.

Chun is fighting Hwang Jin-Gi? Oh I have to watch episode 17.

I read on some website that Chun Min Soo's son was one of the extras on episode 17 I think. So sweet

I also think Choi Min Soo as her dad is too convenient. I think they probably so how popular he was and decided to change parentage.

Shinobi Fail!!

(Shinobi's an old video game where in between rounds, you'd throw ninja stars at ninjas in first person perspective.)

"I also think Choi Min Soo as her dad is too convenient. I think they probably so how popular he was and decided to change parentage."

I'm hoping she lied to him to get him to protect Jin Ju. Her decent, compassionate nature reminds me of the Swordmaster. There's nothing resembling Chun . . . does she even drink?!?

"I was thinking the same thing Chun should be teaching Woon how to fight but instead he is going round in his quest fighting people."

Exactly. Chun should at least teach Woon the Drunken Master fighting style. He doesn't even have to "teach" it, just offer him a unlimited bar tab!

Love the chaebol F3 and invader ES who is turning their world upside down =D I feel this drama is as much about the healing of the Cha household, as it is about romance.
There are just so many witty, funny and/or thought provoking by each of the main four that I dig. Love this show to no end!
LOL at men paying attention to MW's hairstyle change. I adore Kim Jaejoong, and his work in PtB has made me a proud and happy fan ^^

And, it goes w/o saying but Ji Sung's totally nailing Ji Heon....you know he's a good actor when he can act out the myriad of emotions w/o faltering!! Love the four leads; Pure awesome, this show!!

Protect the Boss is my new crackdrama of awesome! I am so in love with it, you don't even know. I keep forgetting there are no dramabeans recaps for it aww shucks. I love it because all the characters are so immature! they make me lol so hard! I love the relationships between the family members... all of them. The gangster CEO dad and Muwon's mom are freakin hilarious, and don't even get me started on the boys...

attractivewise, I don't find the main man that hot (maybe it's the hair, maybe it's because he acts like a child) but i 90% ship the main couple :). I never really thought Jaejoong was that attractive in the context of kpop, but as Saima said... I see him as a man now! I like him enough to feel the plague of the second lead right here *hits chest* but it's not going to (completely) break my heart when Ji Heon gets Eun Sol.

I really like the acting in this, there IS some over done parts, but it's not as overacted as say... Park Shin Hye in YB. It works within the kdramasphere.

Noh Eunsol is just an awesome heroine...I like that she's a strong (physically and emotionally) woman and is not afraid to give men a going over, but she's still kind of an airhead. She's kind of great. almost as great as the grandmother. I'm praising shisus now to finally see a grandma of a chaebol that's not an evil witch hellbent on ruining everything (plus even she has her immature moments that I just die during).

I even like ice cream girl! But i think I want Muwon to end up with his secretary. because she's a) really awesome and capable, and b) cares about him. as of now there's nothing overtly romantic about them, but i could see it happening... aww they'd be cute.

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Like, for once, the man in kdrama realize that woman is not a THING to drag from here to there. He do it out of necessity, but he is sorry for doing it.
This drama teach people that you don't have to be ashamed to say sorry (like JiHyun dad in early episodes where he apologize for hitting him)

and.. I love that the first question Dir. Cha asked when JH and MW fight is "who get more fist in?" -> typical parents.

0

Required fields are marked *

RIGHT?
this drama isn't that cliched..
not that i don't like cliche as long as it's enjoyable.
but, PTB is totally something you can see in rl.
the parents are immature. and the guy is IMMATURE.

it's like the writer sat down and was like.
screw the dramatic-ness of all love triangles/squares.. and was like,
Im gonna make 'em LOVABLE.
Seriously, i have never thought even the 2nd girl lead was adorable, until PTB.

0

Required fields are marked *

Also another thing that i love about this drama.

The whole..parent-gives-money-or-threatens-out-of-country isn't applied here.

The dad literally relies on the female lead. without her, he realizes his son is nothing. heh.

i am relieved to say this gave me a breath of fresh air literally as i cringe in every drama when the parents of the richer main gets all dramatic.

0

Hello everybody! Happy friday :)

I was bored this week and didn't particularly want to watch any of the current dramas, so I decided to watch Soulmate on a whim....and I LOVED IT. Oh my god Shin Dong Wook is very cute, and the earlier episodes and the last few were hilarious and slightly kooky. And at 12 eps long it was a nice length for a pick me up drama.

I watched Hello Schoolgirl starring Lee Yeonhee and Yoo Jitae as well. If you haven't watched it, you have to! It's a really cute, quirky drama that handled the older guy-younger girl relationship well.

Any other drama recommendations? For light, quirky dramas, or any movies? I'd really appreciate it :D

I have a lot on my mind lately (Ji Sung, Lee Dong Wook, Jae Joong) really important save the world kind of stuff (army abs, shower scenes, kisses) so I can't spend a lot of time talking about things other than what I am thinking about (Ji Sung, Lee Dong Wook, Jae Joong) and have to concentrate on other things (tangos, drunk bench hugs, sore heels.)

Jomo,

We are well. How about you and your family? Are you really buying Hundai's this Tuesday? If so, let me know where you are so that I can be there when they are delivered! CSW delivery man!

Say, let's compare CSW's Dokko Jin with Ji Sung's Ji Heon. My impression is that even when Dokko Jin was at his silliest, he never reminded me of a child. Ji Heon, really does remind me of a child. What are your thoughts?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Good question!

Poor JH. He is child-like all the time as a cover for when his problems show themselves.
He decided that being a screw up was better than being labeled as crazy. I like that he was working on his phobias before ES appears, though unsuccessfully. I am sad that he had to do so without his family's assistance. I don't know how that explains his love of coordinating back-packs, though!

DJ, on the other hand, is psychologically sound, and all grown up. I think that DJ's heart problems as a kid allowed him to get what he wanted and to be spoiled by the adults in his life. The fact that he hit it BIG in the entertainment industry allowed him to continue his childish behavior. Never would have gotten away with that if he worked in a bank, for example. He was already aware of his defiencies before meeting AJ. She provided a motivation for becoming less selfish.

0

It may be JiHeon's baby-face. Dokko Jim just looks more mature (CSW's about 10 years older, I think). Ji Heon looks about 19-20 and when you add the childish behaviour you have it. Also, Dokko Jim never moved like a kid....or at least I don't remember it. JiHeon just acts like a puppy/teenager in the way he moves, etc.

0

I have a Hyundai. I'd return it, if they'd send it back to me with CSW. :0)

Seriously, I love it....it's a 2004 350XL (I think the 350 is now the Sonata). It gets OK mileage when I drive it, but not so much when Hubby does...he has a lead foot....but we've had no problems with it at all and we're almost to 100K miles.

0

Shel,

CSW (1970) and JS (1977) are only 7 years apart in age.

I too originally thought that it was the looks, but also felt that I didn't have every thought spot-on, so I am glad for Jomo and her thoughts. She is a great rationalist!

Good insight there Ms. Jomo!

0

Just a small plug for Hyundais, cause I think the brand really deserves it:

I had a used Hyundai Accent in grad school, and it was fantastic... I drove it all around the East Coast, in all different weather conditions, and never had a single problem. Then I got an Elantra, and drove it back and forth across the country, again in all kinds of different weather conditions, and again, never a single problem.

How much (sincere) praise will it take for me to get a CF with Cha Seung-won, I wonder?

0

Sethe -
Maybe as a group, if we share our "We Heart Hyundai" stories, we can get ourselves into commercials with CSW?

(You know, like the Dove commercials?)

Hyundai
Real woman. Real lives. Real cars.

or

Hyundai
Don't just buy them because you think that'll give you a chance with some gorgeous Korean man, buy them because they are good cars.

0

@ Jomo

What a fantastic thought! I especially love your last commercial idea ("don't just buy them because you think that'll give you a chance with some hot Korean man...")

I just wonder where the market would be for these commercials. Hyundais presumably do well enough in Korea (and CSW is already advertising there)... Now, all of us here know the hotness and magnetism of CSW -- what do you think would be his effect on (say, North American) women seeing him for the first time, unaware of his Korean stardom?

0

Ooh! Going back to Ikea. Nice. I'd love to go back and buy a couple of big items, but... Husband and toddler in tow equates to no room in vehicle due to massive amounts of luggage.

I wonder if I could just sneak away one weekend by myself? Hmmm, nope. It wouldn't work. Hubby's family is there. Any mention of Pittsburgh and everyone has to go along and visit the family and bring the car full of "necessities".

Our last visit we brought (and I kid you not) the mattress to our futon, a swimming pool and pool toys, two 10'x10' party tents, Wee MJP's birthday presents and party supplies, a large cooler, mass amounts of childrens gear, clothing for a week, a cot, three pillows, blankets and an army of stuffed dolls.

If I were to go alone it would be me, a bottle of water and some snacks. I would drive straight thru, go buy my items, load them in the car, eat, pee and get back on the road. I could probably do it in say five hours?

Oh, I live to dream!!!

Really, though, posting a picture of a shriveled and wrinkled potato, that you're "taking care of" and putting it out there proudly? Umm... are you sure that's how you want to portray yourself on this forum?

What if whoever your current kdrama husband is (and I am in no way suggesting you're fickle) passes by here and sees the evidence of the "adoration" you've lavished on someone else's potato... well, this story could end in so many ways, right?

Oh Sethe!
Why do you make me answer by dancing around words like "shriveled and wrinkled" "lavished on someone else’s potato?"

Considering my true (current) love is Lee Dong Wook, because he is tall, long and luscious, I can't answer that question in this forum.

Hey, I'm not making you "dance around" anything. If that's how you cultivate your potatoes, I'm sure it's as effective as anything.

And I guess we are to assume that LDW can attribute his current "standing" to your care and attention? What came first, him being "tall, long and luscious," or the attention lavished on him by Jomo?

God bless whoever invented quotation marks, right? How could I ever "convey" my "meaning" without them online?

One potato two potato three potato four
I cultivate another then I'm hungry for one more.

I have to admit that it is KSA's tango skills that have raised LDW's profile lately. But if he were to show up and eat live lobster crackers in my bed, I wouldn't kick him out.

LOL. That is definitely one ugly potato. Kudos to Jomo for keeping it alive.

Hellooooooo OTers!

Currently getting ready for Irene, which involves battles at the grocery store for water bottles and bread and dling a couple dramas onto my macbook in case I lose power and the internet for a couple days.

PTB. How. FRACKING. CUTE! Gah! Ji Hyun with his little bow ties? And I now even like Na Yoon! It's the perfect counerbalance for the other drama I'm currently watching, Que Sera Sera (just saw episode 10. O.O)

Last night I went out with my family, which means drinking happened, and when I looked at my iTunes this morning, I discovered that last night I decided it was a good idea to download a whole bunch of songs from BBF. Thankfully I still had my wits about me enough not to download "Paradise."

Good luck to everyone else facing Irene!

Myung Wol the Spy: Next Episode

Myung Wol finds out she’s pregnant with Kang Woo’s baby. She is ecstatic, and rushes to the mall to buy a baby hoody just like daddy’s. She runs all the way to Kang Woo’s apartment to tell him the good news. She slips and falls on the pavement, gets up and manages to make her way to the apartment. She presses the doorbell, but Kang Woo refuses to open it. “I’m in labour!” she screams. But Kang Woo yells back through the locked door, “You think I’m falling for that one? Do you take me for a fool?”

Kang Woo goes to the fridge and takes a cold beer to calm himself down. He opens the beer can and suddenly hears a mewing outside his door. “You think I’m so dumb I can’t tell it’s you pretending to be a cat to get into my apartment?” he yells. But the mewing gets louder and louder, and Kang Woo starts to get worried about the neighbours complaining. He opens the door reluctantly – and gets the shock of his life! A naked baby in a hoody is lying right outside the door and staring up at him.
There is a note attached to the hoody: “Kang Woo, this is your baby. Please take care of him. You will never see me again. Please forgive me. Goodbye.”

“Hey, dad,” says the baby.

“What the…,” Kang Woo chokes.

“Can we talk later, please, dad,” says the baby. “I’m freezing out here.”

The baby in the hoody crawls on all fours past Kang Woo into the apartment. His legs are very very short, so it takes a full hour before he gets into the apartment. He hoists himself onto one of the legs of the grand piano and climbs laboriously, gums clenched and sweat dripping onto the floor, all the way up to the top of the piano. It takes him two solid hours to reach the top of the piano.

“Phew,” says the baby, wiping his sweat, “that was TOUGH! Compared to this, labour’s a breeze!”

“I’d appreciate it if you could get me some clothes, dad,” says the baby in the hoody. “This here hoody ain’t much protection for a newborn like me.”

Kang Woo throws a floor rug over the baby in the hoody.

“Cool,” says the baby, “I’m all warm and toasty now.”

“I’m kinda hungry, dad,” says the baby.

“You…want …some…milk?” Kang Woo asks, as if in a dream.

“Milk?” the baby says scornfully, “You gotta be joking, dad - gimme that!”

The baby lunges forward and grabs Kang Woo’s beer, takes a swig and grimaces.
“Yuck…bland stuff. You got any soju here, dad?”

Kang Woo slides to the floor in a deep faint.

Her hair is all kinds of crazy though.

I'm watching ep 50 now and still love this long family drama.

SPOILERS!!
I can see that Hwang Geum Ran is turning around and so does the good for nothing brother. Even the mon who cherishes her son more simply because he is a he and a daugther more simply because she gave birth to her is coming around.
But I still couldn't imagine how are they going to make the editor's mother coming to the bright side. Are they going to make the editor takes the bullet meant for Han Jung Won like his father before his mother come to her senses that her son love this woman more than anything in the whole world?
He even comes home to take over her business which he despises for Han Jung Won's sake.
I'm dying to know how are they going to resolve it.
No death please! I only want a happy ending.

Good morning, all!
This week just whizzed by and now we're battening down the hatches waiting for Irene to come roaring up the coast.
It's been more than several years since we've had a significant hurricane hit us, so we'll see what happens. How odd is it that I'm just finding the hurricane threat a distraction from my K-dramas? (So, I'm shallow. I admit it.)

It makes me happy to realize that my current roster of K-dramas are making me a happy viewer - not a stinkeroo in the bunch (although MWtS is beginning to wobble towards the outside rail) - but WBDS, PtB, SOAW, Princess's Man, and recently Can't Lose are just gold to watch!

There is a T-Drama that I'm also watching - Love Keeps Going - just so I can keep the claws sharpened. It's so totally awful that it's funny and keeps getting worse by the week. Acting is beyond bad, sound is horrible and plot is ludicrous. But, some folks like it - I just watch it in amazement and laugh. Anyone else viewing this dramatic gem?
:)

Could the hairdresser have been any more gay? The "make-over" was just silly - all they did was take her pony-tail down and brush it out.

But it's the "acting" that kills me. Why is Mike Hee supposed to be this fabulous T actor? I just don't get it - and seriously, I just want to RIP that knit hat off of the floozy's (XiaXia?) head! It's all she wears through the entire drama! Except when she was pole-dancing. I guess the management probits woolen headware for their strippers?
I just LOVE how horrible LKG is!

Actually, Koala was thinking about recapping LKG - she really liked it, but after her post (at Playground) I guess she opted not to. She's such a good recapper so I was happy to see that she won't be wasting her time on this awfulness.

Latest development in LKG - Mei-Li's good-looking rival bakery business owner's sister jumped out a window to kill herself, dies, then he talks Mei-Li into slapping on a short wig and passing her off as the dead sister to the unhinged mother - who FIGURES IT OUT IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES.
God, this drama just kills me! Oh, yeah - Mike Hee's character also now has a terminal memory kinda thing so he dumps Mei-Li because he's also contracted a case of Noble Idiot Syndrome.

But, you are right - he can cry and roll around in bed pretty well!
:)

0

@Cynthia!

HOLY SHISH-KA-BOB! I only watched like a random episode (and was interested to find out what's up with the pregnant sister), but knowing all this stuff happened, I don't think I'll be revisiting...

I think i remember that this drama was supposed to show off and promote Hakka culture in the modern age...the bad writing is just embarrassing. Writers, work harder!

0

asianromance@

No no no no! Don't encourage the LKG writers to improve!!
This Tdrama is SO BAD that it's a hoot to watch! I insist that there be no improvement in the Writer's Room - as a matter of fact, I'd be happy to send them a couple of cases of soju/Red Bull, to make sure that nothing gets better, just worse!

The preggie sister had her baby in the back seat of a taxi, helped by Mei-Li's flakey brother who has now fallen in love with her and baby, will marry her and dedicate himself to making money to support them! In the bakery. Making the "secret bread". You know - that bread that Mike Hee insists is the only thing that makes his creative juices flow - but just the crust! Never the white part!!
:)

0

And, with today's latest episode on LKG, Mike Hee spent the morning trying to call his German doctor, only to discover the object in his hand wasn't his cellphone, but his wallet.
Apparently his brain is contracting at a faster rate than predicted!
Mei-Le has been proposed to by the dead sister's brother, cause Mom wanted Mei-Le to be by her side, forever. Mei-Le turns down the proposal but agrees to let him go home with her and pretend that he's her new boyfriend.
Oh, and she discovers she's pregnant. Oops!!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I've started watching Definitely Neighbors on Viki RAW. I'm up to episode 24 and really like it! Don't know what they are saying, but appreciate the drama anyway. So I recommend it if you want to follow Viki translating it.

It's about a husband and wife with two kids. The youngest child, a son, died from being hit by a car. The marriage falls apart as a result. The now ex-husband finds love right away with another woman who has a son. The ex-wife struggles to make ends meet as a single parent.

Through unique circumstances, they end up living next door to each other. The drama goes through how they live their lives dealing with their new relationships and their old one, plus the kids on the show are great. They get a fair bit of show time too.

Oh, forgot to mention, the ex-wife has a younger man who is interested in her and it turns out that he is the younger brother of the ex-husband's new girlfriend! Yes, imagine all that insues from that love square! Then to top it all off, in steps the parents, gumming up the works with attempts at arranged marriages and other such parental side stories.

The storyline follows:
The ex-husband and his girlfriend
The girlfriend's son and the ex-couple's daughter
The ex-wife and her supervisor/possible love interest
The ex-wife's sister and ex-husband's co-worker
The ex-wife's parents
The girlfriend, possible love interest, and older sister and mother
The ex-husband's mother
The ex-husband's brother/friend/really young father (? not sure which) and the ex-husband's coworker's sister

Everyone seems to be related in some way to another character of the show.

I just finished watching this classic for the 5th time - BYJ really was hot, back in the day! Here's the description: "Hotelier Starring Bae Yong Jun, Song Hye Kyo, and Kim Seung Woo

Hotelier is a classy and classic kdrama starring hallyu icon Bae Yong Jun and Song Yoon Ah, winner of 2008's Female Excellence Award for On Air. Hugely popular, it aired in 2001 to episode ratings of over 40%."

This was one of Song Hye Kyo's first big dramas - she's so young here, but the talent just jumps off the screen. She stole every scene she was in - and even from BYJ!

Here's a totally random question that I have, and I'll explain it this way. I'm reading GF's post yesterday about Poseidon and Siwon running around on the beach. Then, looked (of course!) at the SH link with the still of Siwon's abs. I daydreamed there for a few minutes, shook myself back to life and then looked at some Siwon links to Strong Heart and came across the show where Shindong proposes to his girlfriend, on camera.

Now, the show wasn't that long ago (maybe early summer?) and my question is this; whatever happened to Shindong and his girlfriend? Are they still together? And, how shallow am I for even wondering about this?
I blame it on Siwon and his penchant for hoisting up his shirt to flash his abs...
:)

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Apparently the proposal wasn't an actual marriage proposal. Shindong claims he was just asking his gf Nari to stay with him forever (or so he claims).

Some netizens thought that perhaps Shindong was just a) seeking some publicity, b) trying to boost ratings and c) really proposing marriage. However, some say Nari wasn't really up for marrying him aka she said no when there was no follow up news for his wedding plans.

As much as I feel sympathy for Shindong - it's hard to imagine parents turning down an Idol member of SUPER JUNIOR for having an inadequate income and an "unsure" future?! Something smells fishy, here.

I went back to Viki and watched that section again - with Hodong's incessant prodding, Shindong actually said "Marry me" and the end of his video proposal.

I really hope this kid becomes the eventual successor for Hodongs spot as an MC. He deserves some respect after all the crap he's been put through, both publicly and privately.

I'm not sure if middle-aged Asian parents really approve of their kids marrying entertainers, much less an idol (since being an idol implies that your fame is based on looks/gimmicks)- even if that idol is a member of super junior. The ideal spouse for children of Asian parents is usually a doctor/lawyer/businessman. I think if I have children, I would be hesitant to see them marry a celebrity just because there are just so many pressures that come with that.

They don't know if he will still be raking in the money 10 years from now. Actually, I'm not sure if he's even raking in the money, since whatever he and the rest of suju makes, a good chunk goes towards preparation, production, SM, and their managers..and what's left get split 10-13 ways.

so why would they choose to be in a group that big?

0

"it’s hard to imagine parents turning down an Idol member of SUPER JUNIOR for having an inadequate income and an “unsure” future?! Something smells fishy, here."

Not at all. Traditional Asian parents don't view actors/idols like what you think you see on TV. (Even chaebols marrying female actresses/singers as "trophy wives" is somewhat frowned upon, due to them not offering strategic value by way of family.)

Even if you set aside the money issue, having a higher college degree is especially important in Asian culture for the sake of credibility. And that is why you see many actors/actresses go back to get a degree when they don't "need" one. Lee Young Ae's reputation is exceedingly high because she has a master's degree and loves pursuing education.

No, seriously though, prioritize. The wonderful drama episodes will always be there for you, so don't abandon your chance to do justice to your education. You owe it to yourself to excel, get a nice job, earn lots of money and go to South Korea, Taiwan and Japan! So you see, everything goes back to our addiction. Hee :)

"You owe it to yourself to excel, get a nice job, earn lots of money and go to South Korea..."

I can attest to this. Really. While I wasn't a top student in college - had my episodes of skipping classes and drinking while in campus - I pushed myself to study and finish school with minor problems. It all comes back to you when you go job-hunting - how would you present your grades to your prospective employer? Even while in high school, you have to keep your grades good, because it also affects your college admission. Now while there are alternatives to finishing school and keeping good grades in order to have a better life, the odds are better for you when you have good education.

Ricky is right about prioritizing. While you can always watch the dramas anytime you wish to, the time and opportunity that goes with studying and finishing school on time won't wait for you. We all know how hard it is to get off kdrama addiction (or any addiction), but try to visualize what you want for yourself years from now and work from that thought.

It feels good to be able to buy things for yourself and finance your travels, and have the thought that you deserve all that because you worked hard to achieve them.

And visiting South Korea is worth burning the midnight oil studying. ;)

BTW, my boss' daughter spent half a year in Seoul as an exchange student. She's a kdrama addict too, but with good grades. I hope that inspires you to study.

but the sad thing is I have no self discipline and motivation at all :(
everytime i watch a drama, my conscience constantly tugs at the back of my head, but I ignore it...
and even if i'm motivated, I usually study for awhile then go back to drama-marathon ing again!
sigh I don't know why i am so complacent with my grades (they're still above average, but...)

and btw I went to korea, taiwan and japan when i was small! XD

No. There is none. Sorry.

Well... actually, graduating from college has majorly curbed my kdrama addictions. Probably because during school I would pull all-nighters to marathon shows and wouldn't care about being really tired during class. I was started watching kdramas my last semester of college... you don't want to know how many I went through during that time lol.

Sadly, now I just watch shows that are airing so I don't go crazy. Even then... I'm waaay behind on like every show that I started in May.

Man, real life sucks.

But, yea, during school. You're just doomed until graduation day.

lol it was good^^ I loved it even though I was conned into it by my sister. but then she wouldn't have had to con me if she had told me who the other male actor was!

I mean I seriously didn't like 40y/o Virgin, or Evan almighty or Dinner for Schmucks... so I wasn't getting the Steve Carrell love, even though I did like his voice in Despicable Me... But that wouldn't have been enough for me to disdain Ryan Gosling!

Seriously should have told me he was in it, I would have dragged her to it instead :)

Anyways, Ryan Gosling was lovely as always, and besides that he's a great actor too, however the one I ended up loving even more was Steve Carrell, seriously his character Cal was too loveable.

I'm going through the same problem with Protect the Boss that I had with Secret Garden - I care more about the relationship of the second leads more so than the main ones. The weird thing is, unlike SG, I actually like the principal characters this time. :/ IDK what the problem is; maybe I'm just not buying Jihun and Eunsul's chemistry yet?

Muwon and Nayoon on the other hand are adorable and I will be /devestated/ if they don't end up together. This is my first drama with Wang Ji Hye and Jae Joong, but they've surprised me in every way possible with how lovable their characters are. I'm already emotionally invested in their ridic side stories. :") I wonder if those two are dating in real life.

All in all, I think this is my favorite drama of the year...I'm merely not feeling the magic of the main OTP like everyone else is. At least, not yet. We're only half-way through so there's time to change.

P.S. Please tell me there are more NaMu shippers here. :C

I wasn't sure if I would like an eventual MW/NY when she was being all mopey, chasing after a man who obviously does not like her that way anymore. But she was just so unbelievably adorable in ep.8! Not only did she come to terms with the fact that both Cha boys are in love with ES, she actually tried to befriend ES in a her own awkward way (the scene in which she was waiting anxiously for ES to return her call was beyond cute).
I look forward to her further growth as an individual in future episodes, and when she said to MW that putting their relationship as man and woman aside, aren't they friends to begin with- I actually feel very hopeful for this pairing :)
I think the two need to start anew, this time without her relationship with JH hanging over them.

I love the fact that NY is MW's kryptonite.

What he feels for ES - thrilling, newness, danger - is nice and all, but you get the feeling that NY is is first love.

That kiss in the car said a lot about their mutual feelings that both are out to deny for all the wrong reasons.

NY used, abused and rejected him so he is soooo trying to be mean to her, but couldn't even withstand 12 seconds of her asking to eat dinner as friends, pleeeeease?
She didn't even have to OPW and he caved.

Part of his wanting ES has to do with him being free of NY, who really is adorable, isn't she? They HAVE to end up together.

@Jomo

I want a pet like NY lol! When she was giving MW that puppy look, pleading with him to have dinner with her, I went awww. I so agree with you, ES frees MW from lots of things that have held him down for years, his mom, NY, his perfect image etc etc. He surely loves to be with ES, but that is not the same as loving ES herself.
I like how the end of ep.8 kind of parallels the end of ep.5, JH takes one huge step forward in his relationship with ES, and MW looks like he's gonna start hanging out with NY again. I have always find old flings trying (and failing) to keep a platonic friendship amusing to watch :P

I've been having this lingering thoughts on Kdrama lead male characters. In real life, if I ever encountered fellas like them, I would be really hard to fall for any of them. Sure some sweet sensitive stuff floats on the surface every once in a while but why do they have to be mean and the lead female falls in love with them despite all the rudeness.

I asked a Korean guy friend a couple years back why some of the male leads are portrayed in such light (i.e. sometimes resorting to brutal force just to get a point across) and asked if he knew people who were like that in real life. He said some guys like that actually exist and it's part of the culture and I'm like WUT?! That is just weird.

"He said some guys like that actually exist and it’s part of the culture and I’m like WUT?! That is just weird."

I went to school in an Korean enclave, and a lot of what you see is exaggerated . . .but not that far from the truth. Korean culture is still very macho compared to Chinese and Japanese culture, and Korean soaps do a good job at "marketing" in a way that's friendly to a female audience.

That said . . . Korean leads have a presence that you don't see often in Chinese and Japanese trendy dramas (not speaking about historicals.) They all seem trained from the get-go to have a relationship with camera and to underline everything on the script with maximum effect. I notice this especially when Korean actors do China/TW dramas -- they just stand out with the "star quality" thing.

@belleza,

I never noticed this about Korean actors in Chinese/TW dramas till you brought it to my attention. But you are, of course, absolutely right.

Case in point Park Shin-Hye in Hayate the Combat Butler. Ignoring the initial awkwardness of getup & language barrier, PSH literally shines and seems to dominate as the Taiwanese series progress. The drama itself is, for lack of a better word/s, poorly produced/directed. Then why watch? I have a compulsive habit of checking out Manga/manhwa-adapted dramas hoping they would live up to their outrageous plots! We owe it to the genre that gave us cross dressing high school girls and froufrou princes:) How can one not watch a drama named Combat Butler! or High School Host Club(which is next)?

Caveat:I'm not even watching a full episode, just sampling random episodes. And I haven't watched any other K-actors in any Chinese/TW dramas to do a more studied comparison. But I think Korean invasion(of TW dramas)will be complete with airing of Skip Beat?

When you come to think of it, all you need to do is wait for SuJu fangirls to grow up, to alleviate the left-right hostilities in East Asia:)

Hello!

I am so behind on dramas right now. I'm several episodes behind on both Myung Wol and Birdie Buddy. I am also one episode behind on the jdrama Ouran, but I am up to date with Ikemen Desu Ne.

I have to say, the edits of the Birdie Buddy episodes for time are incredibly awkward and leave the flow of the narrative feeling a bit directionless, but I LOVE the music! It is soooo pretty! And the scenery (at the golf courses) is also gorgeous.

It's been interesting reading elsewhere the flame wars going down between fans of You're Beautiful and Ikemen Desu Ne. Some fans of YB are tearing Ikemen apart, and fans of Ikemen who haven't seen YB are snarking back. As someone who loved YB, the kdrama will always be number one in my heart, but I'm liking the jdrama so far. It's the same story, guys. Can't we just all agree to love it whether it's in Korean or Japanese, ridiculous hairstyles and all?

I am hoping to watch Return of Iljimae when I get a chance. Jung Il Woo looks so much better with long hair. His hair was so boring in Take Care of the Young Lady.

I find myself in Prosecutor Young Ju withdrawal these days. Someone needs to give that man a lead role in a drama now! :)

The thing about the jap version of YAB reminds me of the jap version of BOF which was the first asian drama I've seen. I discovered it by chance on a local website and since i was very bored and slightly lonely I decided to spend a few minutes on it. I got hooked in an instant. After I finished watching it I looked for more information on the actors and guess what, I kept stumbling upon articles on the korean version. So I said hell yeah, let's watch that one two, just to see if it's better. I didn't feel that one was overall better than the other, it just felt so fine watching the same story presented in two slightly different manners (the korean version was lighter in some way, very colourful, joyful; the japanese one seemed to me more dramatic, darker somehow...except for the final movie.) In the japanese version I liked more Shun Oguri, in the korean one I fell for lee Min Ho...

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I loved YAB too but I don't have the time or guts to watch the newer version... I'm also afraid I'd be biased, since i think nothing beats JGS in coolness/hotness (except for Lee Min Ho maybe... but just maybe) :P

I admit, I was the reverse with Hana Yori Dango. I liked Matsumoto Jun in the jdrama and Kim Hyun Joong in the kdrama (of course, my attitude toward the kdrama has shifted significantly since I first saw it). I love Lee Min Ho, don't get me wrong, but he looks monumentally better without that perm.

JGS will probably always be the best Taekyung, but I like the Shu (Shinwoo) character a lot more in the jdrama. I'm one of those people who has yet to be impressed by Jung Yong Hwa, who was really the weakest of the main group in the kdrama.

Required fields are marked *

I've only watched 3 episodes of Ikemen Desu ne and I think I might like this version better than the korean one. Tonally, it's more mellow and narratively more substantive, but it still managed to retain the lightheartedness and wackiness of the original premise. I also like that they had cut down a lot of the scenes which I thought were utterly unnecessary in YAB.

What I love most about it is the directing and music. it's. so. gorgeous. the combination of the two in IKN really heightens the poignancy of some of its scenes.

As for the main characters, K-anjell > J-anjell on so many levels. I agree that JYH was definitely the weakest out of the four in YAB, but I do like him a lot more than Shu, who, frankly, is even more wooden than Jung. This is also partly why I am actually rooting for the OTP this time around. thank god, no more 2nd male-lead heartbreaks for me.

The music is FANTASTIC. Gets me crying at all the right moments. :P I know what you mean about cutting the writing down to give the narrative a more focused feel, but I feel the need to defend the kdrama a bit because it wasn't based on anything, so it didn't have the luxury of taking an already complete work and trimming it down. All of my favorite jdramas are based on an original source work of some kind (albeit usually a manga). They have a polished feel because someone was polishing someone else's work. It's not a bad thing, but I feel like it should be evaluated on a different scale.

I love the main couple in both dramas, even if I am more attached to the kdrama leads.

0

While I prefer the Jap version, I am more sentimental towards YAB, especially for the main cast. and you're absolutely right, IKN is an adaptation, it wouldn't have been as good as it is now if the original wasn't so awesome.

I also liked very much Sa ran in the beginning because of her poise and her mature behaviour, but seeing her becoming some sort of manipulating housewife was really annoying. Also the transformation of her hubby from macho to lamb. Disgustingly sugary, i could develop cavities just by looking at that married utopia.

Where was the passion? No couple there seemed to have it...

Been a crazy-ish week. Just had a second interview for one of the jobs I'm interviewing for. I have a good feeling about it despite it not going very well (one of the interviewers played hardball with the questions- I felt like I was on the witness stand), but I'm also wracked with fear over actually getting the job and not knowing if I can live up with everyone's expectations and feeling like maybe I had deceived them with my charm and my paltry accomplishments. I'm the type of do 99 things wrong and 1 thing right. Though, luckily, that one thing that I get right is so huge that ppl forget abt the other 99 days. I'm not sure if that's the right...O_o

On the bright side, Protect the Boss is keeping me sane and happy! The characters are definitely a breath of fresh air, especially Ji Heon. So many kdrama guys will be all like "I'm in love with this lowly girl. I hate myself for liking her. I hate her for making me like her. I'm going to be mean now". But Ji Heon doesn't pull that shit. He's so freaking earnest. Each time he tells ES that he likes her, I feel like I'm being proposed to (since I live vicariously through ES these days)! =DD

Zenkai girl and Ouran high school host club is keeping me happy on the J-drama front.

And Office Girls for the the taiwan drama part! It is so far so good and has annoyed me yet. The writer/director made a good choice not to be too flashy with the first episode and the actress, Alice Ke, seems to really ground the drama. It's been really hard to find a taiwan drama to like these past few years. I keep on picking them up and dropped them after the first episode. And if I don't drop them, by midway pt, I'm super frustrated.

* You are an Idiot if you think.....*

1= That unconditional love means you need to stand by your cheating husband/boyfriend.

2- That “I never quit” means you need to stay in a abusive relationship.

3- That you have the magical power to change your lovers behavior.

4- That all man are “pigs.”

5- That “Bad Boys” are the best husband material.

6- That you need to get married with the first guy you have “sex” with.

7- That after you get married your “Mother/Father” opinions are more important than that of your spouse.

8- That you have to have sex wit a guy in order to “prove to him that you love him.”

9- That if a guy “treats you badly” means that, he deep inside really loves you.
10- That you have put up with your parents bad attitude, when they disrespect your spouse, under pretenses of looking after you.

11- That you need to tell your current boyfriend, all of your prior sexual escapades.

12- That having sex with your best friend, will end up in marriage.

13- That dating out of your race is wrong.

14- that if a man uses physical force in order to have sex with you, when you are not 100% in agreement with him, than it was not sexual abuse.

15- That you do not have to “lower” your standards in order to find husband.

16- That you are always right, or whether you have a very “High Value” of your own opinion.

From my experience working with victims of domestic violence and abusive relationships and survivors of suicide . . .

Shame is very, very powerful. I don't think they are idiots; I fear they have been broken like an animal.

It may be too late to matter (it's very late Sunday night, PST)...but I hope someone sees this.

I have a beautiful niece...and I don't just mean inside....she could have been a model beautiful. She married almost right out of high school, to a guy that was a couple of years older. He seemed OK at the time, although I thought he was kind of cocky and full of himself. But, I chalked it up somewhat to his young age. They had a baby about a year later, a little boy.

Her husband turned out to be an emotional manipulator, and was emotionally and physically abusive. He kept her from her family and friends and had her convinced that no one loved her, that he was the only one who would take her, that she was fat and ugly (she looked almost anorexic) and "used goods". She finally got the courage to divorce him and move to another state. However, saying he didn't want to be far from his son, he followed her there. He ended up convincing her that she was never going to find anyone else. She really believed that she was ugly and no one would want her. THey eloped and she got pregnant again almost immediately. When she went into labor, she told him it was time to take her to the hospital, he looked at her and said "why do I need to go?". She drove herself to the hospital. Once there, she called her sister, who lived about five hours away, and even though the sister was 8 months pregnant with her first, she and her husband drove up to get my niece. They waited until the jerk was at work and went in and got all her stuff and took her and the new baby back home with them. The sister ended up delivering the next week and HER husband took care of both moms and both babies. For which he should be sainted.

Even after all of that, it took a lot of talking on the part of the sister to keep my niece from going back to that SOB. He had her so brainwashed that she really could not see the truth.

I'm glad to say that she is now a happy, healthy, beautiful mom of six who's married to a wonderful man that we all love, and who adores her and treats her like a queen. But it was a long time before she had any self esteem at all.

It seems stupid to those of us on the outside looking in, that someone would keep going back to an abuser. But if he/she (and there are women abusers, too) can physically or emotionally separate the abused from family and friends, then they feel that they have no choice. And, if the abuser is really good, he can claim over and over that he's changed and it will be different and they will believe them.

No one can judge anyone's choices until they have been in their shoes.

@Shiku......After taking a closer look at the word "Idiot," I have realized one thing; I want to apologizes for using this word out of context, since that word was used in the past to denote someone who suffers "sever mental retardation." My apologies to all who suffer from mental retardation!!!!

So the word that more accurately describe what I am trying to convey, is the word "Fool," but since you suggested misguided, being a "Synonym" for foolish, than my edited version must read; * You are a Fool (misguided) if you think…..*!!!! I hope that makes you happy!!!! : 0 }

My friend and I accidentally walked onto the film set of 뿌리깊은 나무 (Deep Rooted Tree) last weekend.. (we got separated from our tour group, and we weren't interrupting them or anything because Korea was still rainy at the time so they were waiting for a break in the rain to continue filming). We asked someone what they were filming, and my friend got all excited and started looking for Han Suk-kyu, but then I pointed out all the child actors, so we figured they're probably still filming the beginning episodes. So then we started looking for Song Joong-ki lol

We didn't find him, but my friend was trying to take pictures of everyone sneakily. Looking at the photos a few days later, a couple of the guys (who I think are extras) are smiling and peace sign-ing us haha. So. I guess we're not as sneaky as we thought hahah :)

I am enjoying this show. I have always been fascinated by Jae's's looks. sometimes attractive or pretty, sometimes repulsive and creepy, not particularly masculine....just fascinating. can't explain the IT factor. His acting is not horrible for his experience but he seems a bit uncomfortable.

So I trying to see why Kpop was interesting to people and I saw the story of how Rain may have plagiarised his song Busan Woman from Raphael Saadiq's Detroit girl.

Busan woman's link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9ZEXY_9nUc

Detroit girl's link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIoMNaRVXp0

Raphael Saadiq used to be in the group known as Tony Toni Tone, has won a grammy and is a successful producer and he realeased his song in 2004.

Rain released his song in 2011 as a fan service and has said it has been his labor of love for 16 months and that he composed it with the an another anonymous composer as a result of his personal exprerience.

His associate (rep?) denied the claims here
http://www.allkpop.com/2011/08/rain-denies-plagiarism-accusations-for-busan-woman

His co-composer had this to say
“There is no reason for me to really respond to these plagiarism accusations. I have never heard of ‘Detroit Girl’ or even of Raphael Saadiq and am upset that we have been accused of plagiarism. The structure may be similar, but if that permits plagiarism accusations then all songs must be plagiarized“.

What does everyone think?

In my opinion I find the two songs very similar, the beat, the feel, the title is almost similar, when Raphael calls out cities Rain does the same although latter does international cities. The only difference is the lyrics (i think).

Yes they are both very similar.

But I do not make any sort of claims regarding who is right or wrong in this instance. I wasn't there, so I don't know what happened.

I dunno why but I sincerely enjoyed Rain's Busan Girl more. I don't know why he didn't just ask for the rights to sample the song like what SHINee did with their song Juliette.

Buh? @Cynthia, I thank thee for pimping me out, but I have to clarify that I (1) absolutely loathe LKG (any random episode is a piece of crap), and (2) never thought once about recapping it. Maybe you got my love for Material Queen confused with Love Keeps Going. :-) It's okay. MQ = best TW-drama of 2011 (so far), LKG = worst TW-drama of 2011 (hands down I'm giving it that prize right now).

Glad folks love it for its craptasticness. Sigh, Mike Mike Mike, why you go follow up the perfect Sunny Happiness with this shiz?

Ockoala@!!

I am handing you this wet noodle - start beating me with it!!

I am sorry - apparently I had a dose of the "brain-shrink syndrome" that Mike Hee has contracted over at LKG - that post was put up by another of my favorite recappers, Claire H., at DramaFever on her July post, lauding this turkey. It must have been reading hers and then reading yours on MQ that caused my confusion.
I sorry, sorry, sorry!!! **rubbing hands together and hunching over, dancing**

On a happier note, I've added more plot developments up-thread! Today is another new episode - I am google-eyed with stunned amazement! And not in a good way.... :)

Hello, everyone. I just got back to the home ground after being at the doctor's all day-- had blood tests done, then waited for seven hours to see the doctor. Don't ask me how or why. Just happened-- the queue was very long. So I got there at ten, lined up, had lunch at three, and finally got in to see the doctor at five thirty. As we all joked, we could have bought out the nearby mall in that time if we had the money. Anyway, the good thing is that the x-ray and blood chemistry stuff came out normal except Laya is rather deficient in potassium, so the doctor prescribed some meds to bring down the blood pressure and remedy the deficiency. Oh, and he also said to eat at least one fruit a day and try to avoid stress-- it's written on my prescription as well, lol. I can probably do the former, but the latter is a tall order.

Also, funny thing happened to me at work this week. Happened to share a table with one of the department bosses during lunch and she turned out to be a huge K-drama fan. So we ended up dissecting K-dramas all through lunch, squeeing over Lee Min-Hot and Jung Yong Hwa and giggling like two teenagers, and I pointed her over here for recaps and news. Oh, and she calls her hubby "yobo" and admits to saying "ottokae," "hwe," and "ya!" instead of the corresponding English words. Hehe, that is one rocking ahjumma.

Glad you're better now, laya! :) I hope you feel much better soon. Potassium... so you should eat a lot of bananas then. :)

LOL. Way to find a fellow KDA (kdrama addict) at work - and an officer at that. :) It would be fun if she allows you to you call her bujang-nim. At work, my fellow KDAs and I greet each other in Korean and call one another sunbae/unnie or dongsaeng/hoobae. We don't care much whoever hears anymore. Boss doesn't complain anyway. :)

Haha, I'm excited to find out on Wednesday what happened with the KHJ meet-and-greet because she was going to that. :D

I also remember quite suddenly that I was LSSing on CN Blue's I'm A Loner all week, and posted it on Facebook. Turns out I gave my FB friend-coworkers LSS as well, so last Thursday when we were walking to the main road we all laughed when we realized we were all humming "Oetoriya, oetoriya, daradididadadu..."

Yes, I definitely need bananas. Unfortunately I don't have a fridge, so I'll just have to buy one banana a day or something. Ohai, canteen. :D

Sad to hear that you had to wait for so long to see the doctor.

I know that the meds and some potassium tablets will straighten everything out. MJP Hubby has the same problems with BP and potassium loss from the meds.

Hello. This is the my first comment here. I've been lurking here since Personal Taste. Kudos to my unhealthy obsession to that drama I discovered this wonderful site.

Anyway, I can't wait for Scent of a Woman ep. 11 subtitles to come out. This is the first drama that's currently airing in S. Korea that I've been following religiously. It's a torture.

hmm! Protect the boss starts this week for me!!! I'm sooo excited! I watched episode 2 of scent last night. I don't remember crying, I remember waving at the tv and saying "sun ah unnie" or "wook-ah" yeah I was really happy to see them both and I'll probably be really happy to see them for at least 5 more episodes. saying ptb is a good remedy after scent reminds of the 49 days times, I wish I remembered what I was watching to cheer up after 49 days.
I have to say though, that the tone of scent is lighter so far than 49 days was. Or maybe this a case of last scene ( so to speak) as in, I'm remembering how 49 days ended and not how the overall drama is.

Happy Weekend, all!

It's been such a week, particularly yesterday, partly due to the hurricane bearing down on the East Coast and me working for commercial electricians. (But I have a job, so I'm not complaining!)

I'm actually too exhausted to read the comments right now b/c I know I won't be able to not-reply if I read. :D Too many good conversations to be drawn into, and too much more energy needed than I have.

Caught up on Scent of Woman, watched the 1st epi of Zenkai Girl (love!), queueing up Protect the Boss, planning to dl Delightful Girl..., dl'ing Twinkle Twinkle tho it may break my heart, and, um, almost done watching the last epi of Still, Marry Me (finally!). TY for all the advice for dl'ing Revenge of the Gumiho! You guys are daebok!

Hardly saw HAG this week, CSG is delightful as always, Mr. Adorkable may not work out.

Hopefully I'll have recharged by tonight and can participate---oh, and hopefully there won't power outage :D

*HUGS* to my unnies and oppas and dongsaengs! You make my weekends special.

MJP unnie...Wee MJP finally has his own song. Now for oppa!

So, Zenkai Girl is a hit. And you've decided to tough out the rest of TT?

The Men are currently watching Mater Tales and I'm watching Love Keeps Going. I'm behind one episode. I'm on 12 now and this week is 13. Plus, I'm making cards.

So, I hope you have a great week!

Happy OT Friday [night]. I went to see Chinese friends tonight. She and I discussed Kim Sun-ah, her kissing ability (lack of wooden reaction) and the approach to kissing Korean dramas. My friend says her mom liked the old style dramas wherein they had "no kissing for like 100 episodes" and now it is "getting much worse." Her mate, she and I laughed about this.

Speaking of Kim Sun-ah, I feel overwhelmed by SOW at the moment. I hope episode 12 relieves some of the tension--I only saw the screenshots, though...so its just I want all the good characters to live happily to the end of their days. I have no idea what I want to happen to the evil character(s). Maybe for them to decide to chase butterflies in South America? Because they actually always wanted to be entomologists, and since they resolved all their daddy issues they can now fulfill that dream?
