You’ve Fallen For Me: Episode 11

Photobucket

It’s all dates and scandals in this episode. One of the strengths of this series is the comedy and the young romance – Park Shin Hye and Jung Yong Hwa really sell it when it comes to the romance because they are comfortable around each other – on and off screen. The melodramatics? Not so much. All this scandal-mongering from Team Hee-joo is actually quite banal…

This has got to be the most awkward kiss ever. Eyes wide open as they peck each other on the lips and frozen as statues. But the girls scream “GET AWAY FROM SHIN!!!” like no other. Bo-woon arrives (HA!) with the other Windflower girls to see this shocking scene.

Shin pulls away, and tells Kyu-won she’s in big trouble now. And he goes back to his seat and starts singing “You’ve Fallen for Me.” How appropriate! And he only has eyes for Kyu-won. Suddenly, because he’s singing his hit song, everyone’s back to rocking out without a care in the world.

They walk home, holding hands. Kyu-won is a tad worried she may need to wear a swimming cap tomorrow to protect her hair, but she trusts Shin when he promises that nothing will happen. He wants to see her go in first. Even though all she has to do is open the door, he’s worried she may trip over the door going in. Ha!

And before she leaves, he kisses her on the forehead and bids her goodnight. That sends her running into her house. EEEP so cute! I love Shin’s bashful smile after he kisses her too.

Too bad she needs to report to Grandpa, who wants to know why she came home late. She makes up the excuse that she couldn’t get a part on the gayageum right, and was practicing all night. As soon as she enters her room though, she starts giggling like a fool. Shin goes home, whistling, and his mother catches on. She offers him two tickets to an art gallery, and he eagerly snatches them. When he goes into his room, he can’t stop smiling like a fool either. Aww – why is this couple so cute?

Hilariously, as soon as Shin calls Kyu-won, she fixes her hair and straightens her clothes – as if he’s going to see her over the phone. Pfft. He tries to act cool, saying that he can’t throw away these tickets his mom gave him, so he invites her to go to the art gallery. Kyu-won: “I don’t really want to go, but we can’t throw them away.” (Oh my God it’s so hard to contain my giddiness right now…)

Suddenly Jung-hyun bursts into Shin’s room. He kissed Kyu-won!?!? (She heard from her friends.) He tells her to shut it, and he’ll pay for all those autographs and compensate her losses. In front of money, Jung-hyun shuts up. And she promises not to tell mom. When Shin goes to wash up, Jung-hyun realizes she might have just landed on a cash cow with this new development.

The next morning, Jung-hyun waits outside of Kyu-won’s home, giving her a fright when she goes out. She wants to talk to Grandpa and tell him allllll about Kyu-won and Shin going out, and kissing. Kyu-won’s eyes widen, and then Jung-hyun complains about no longer being able to make money from the autographs. So of course, Kyu-won says she’ll give her allowance. After all, they’re neighbors! Kyu-won initially offers $5 dollars, but Jung-hyun scoffs. Only $10 appeases her. For the day…

Yoon-su visits Seok-hyun at the office and notices him reading a postcard from a close friend back in the States. With a smile, Yoon-su asks if it’s the girl he had a scandal with back in Broadway. She admits she heard it through Tae-joon, and was afraid that it might become a serious rumor that could damage his reputation. Seok-hyun tells her not to worry about it.

Tae-joon instructs Young-min to spread the rumor that no one called for Hee-joo on the day of the performance for the sponsors – rather, the director didn’t call Hee-joo because he wanted Kyu-won onstage. Young-min isn’t too keen on lying, but Tae-joon threatens that the guy has a review coming up soon… Young-min goes running to spread the lie.

Kyu-won goes shopping early in the morning, trying to find something suitable to wear for her art gallery date. He notices her new dress – literally, because he sees the tag hanging from the back! So she totally helped Grandpa get music sheets riiight? And that dress seems so new! It must be trendy to wear tags on the back, huh?

Kyu-won dashes into the gallery, embarrassed like hell.

They go on the coolest – date ever. 3D paintings where you can actually step into them?! Did my Harry Potter dream come true in this drama or what!? She even catches Shin in an awkward pose as he bends down to tie his shoelaces, and there’s a painted cupid cupping his butt. Of course, she hurts herself again, bumping her head against one of the back of the paintings.

The school chancellor informs Seok-hyun about the rumors of Hee-joo never getting a call. Seok-hyun wants to confront her, but Hee-joo is out sick. He calls Hee-joo’s phone, and her mother picks up, but she hangs up on him. Soo-myung and Ki-young are shocked, and Soo-myung has his phone records to prove that he’s called her. Soo-myung wants to go and confront her, but Ki-young remembers that Hee-joo went somewhere with Jun-hee. They need to find him, fast.

Hee-joo is locked up at home until the whole scandal is over, but of her own choice. She calls up Jun-hee, and blames him for getting her in trouble. Eager to help her, she tells him to deny that he was ever with her that day, to anyone who asks. He is to feign ignorance about her phone being off or people searching for her. The devil…

During lunch, Shin asks why Kyu-won lives apart from her dad. She says it’s because her father and Grandpa fight way too much. Shin admits that he has a different father from Jung-hyun, but she already knows that. They find out that Jung-hyun has gotten a total of $30 from the both of them. Heh. When they go back to school holding hands, they have to part ways in the hallways, and Shin sends her off first. Kyu-won doesn’t think it’s dangerous in the hallways, but after seeing all those stares, she rethinks it and leaves first. No one touches a hair on her head under Shin’s watchful eye.

Soo-myung tracks Jun-hee down in the band practice room, but the drummer lies that he was never with Hee-joo. When Shin comes in, Soo-myung asks if Kyu-won is okay. There’s been some misunderstandings, and he mutters that some people can’t stand to see others succeed. He tells Shin to take care of Kyu-won at this time, and Jun-hee looks away, troubled.

The Three Angry Girls confront Kyu-won on the grounds; guess school’s not too safe after all! But they’re not just attacking her for getting together with Shin. Rather, they think that she’s seduced the director so that she could get the lead role. Things have only turned worse because Hee-joo won’t be coming into school, and so Kyu-won will have to do the practice as the main lead.

But Kyu-won knows she’s not doing anything wrong, and so she’s going to keep going to practice, even if it makes her look bad. As for Seok-hyun, Yoon-su is willing to talk to Tae-joon for him but Seok-hyun’s going to go to practice anyways. He doesn’t like that Tae-joon is using Kyu-won for his petty jealousies, but he can deal with it.

At practice, the rest of the actors think Kyu-won won’t show up, if she has any dignity. But she shows up. Her only supporters in the room? Ki-young and Shin. When Seok-hyun enters and calls for Kyu-won to step forward as lead, Shin notes the jeers in the room, and also wonders what Seok-hyun’s aim is.

After practice, he grabs Kyu-won aside – can she not do this performance? It’s not worth all this trouble and abuse, and Hee-joo will be in it anyways. But Kyu-won wants to stick with it. She’s actually having fun performing, even if she knows that she’s only an understudy. Also, if she leaves now, it will put Seok-hyun in an awkward position. She leaves, insisting that he stop thinking about things only in his perspective, and he gets a call from Seok-hyun.

Seok-hyun wants to listen to the ending song mix. He thinks that there’s too many stringed instruments in the piece – guitar and gayageum – but Shin sees no problem with it. Seok-hyun wants a little piano intro before the guitar, and since he’s the songwriter and overall director of the performance, Shin’s gotta do it.

Shin then asks if Kyu-won can be out of the performance, because he wants her to. Seok-hyun reminds him to not be so controlling – they just started going out.

Tae-joon visits Seok-hyun in the office, pretending that he doesn’t want any misunderstandings to arise between Seok-hyun and Hee-joo. Hmph. He wants a drink, since he’s been working soooo hard for Seok-hyun, and so the director goes out. Tae-joon steals Seok-hyun’s phone on his desk and quickly taps out a message to Kyu-won, telling her to meet him at the hotel at 7pm. Uh-oh…

Hee-joo’s mother is informed, and she texts the exact same message to Seok-hyun. Of course, he’ll go, since he wants to find out what Hee-joo’s mother wants. But Yoon-su comes into his office – they have a date at 6pm! Unfortunately he has to cancel on her again, and he comes up with the excuse that a journalist is here to interview him.

Shin comes home and bumps into Kyu-won and her father outside their house. The father decides to leave the two of them, noting their awkward glances and lack of eye-contact. When Shin asks, she says that she’s going to visit a friend that’s not Bo-woon. He apologizes again, and tells her to just do the musical if she likes it so much. He just didn’t want her getting hurt because of others.

She asks when he was born, and it turns out he’s three months younger than her. Therefore, he’s got no right to tell her what to do! And she can take care of herself, thanks very much!

Seok-hyun waits at the hotel bar, but no one arrives. He then spots Kyu-won coming in, and both are surprised to see each other. He’s puzzled when she says that he had texted her to meet.  When she shows him the proof, he realizes it’s the exact same message he got, and immediately he pricks up to the danger impending. He makes the excuse that he sent the text to the wrong person, and then rushes the both of them out of there. He pats her on the shoulder to rush her out, but too late – someone’s snapped a photo of them.

He warily exits the hotel, and the photographer catches the two of them exiting, and Seok-hyun’s hand behind Kyu-won’s back, guiding her away.

At home, Shin musters the courage to phone Kyu-won. She lies about being with her friend, even though she’s being driven home by Seok-hyun. Since she’ll be home soon, Shin decides to wait outside for her.

On the other hand, Seok-hyun is all preoccupied, wondering if anyone else knew she was meeting him. Only her dad knows about their meeting, but not the location. Seok-hyun’s lips tighten – he clearly knows and has experienced the repercussions of such an incident…

Shin sees Seok-hyun and Kyu-won walking up her street, and he quickly hides around the corner. Seok-hyun apologizes for putting her through all that trouble, and insists that he sent the text to the wrong person. He tells her not to worry about anything that may happen. (Whew – I’m glad someone’s lying to protect her, rather than to sabotage her.)

She texts Shin when she gets home, but he doesn’t reply. Perhaps he’s asleep? And he replies with a simple “Yeah.” 🙁 He’s actually moping outside her house, wondering why she lied to him and why she was with Seok-hyun.

The next morning, Jung-hyun is back! She wants to see Grandpa again, but Kyu-won is up to speed with her tricks. “You know what my grandpa’s wish is? It’s for me to get married so that he can see his great-grandson.” Kyu-won also adds that Grandpa really likes Shin for looking like him when he was younger. Heh – that’s enough to send Jung-hyun away!

At school, rumors have already spread of Kyu-won and Seok-hyun dating because of photos of them exiting a hotel. People look at Shin a little pitifully, and the Three Angry Girls tell him about Kyu-won “cheating” on him. The photos are incriminating alright, even though Soo-myung and Ki-young know that this can’t possibly be true. Soo-myung quickly suspects it’s Hee-joo behind all this.

Aaaand – Hee-joo comes back to school! Jun-hee catches her, and Hee-joo tells him that she can’t hang out with him anymore. If she does, she’ll never come back to school. What is she in, third grade? They can’t hang until the performance is over, and Jun-hee, the poor simple guy he is, agrees.

Shin chases Seok-hyun down, wanting an explanation for what happened last night. Seok-hyun sighs, immediately understanding that they were set up. He tells Shin he’ll take care of it, but Shin is too worried. This is exactly why he wanted Kyu-won out of the musical! He knew she’d end up getting hurt! He wants Seok-hyun’s car keys – he will keep Kyu-won away from the school for the day, until Seok-hyun resolves the problem.

Praise the Lord Almighty – Shin understands! No stupid misunderstandings and cold shoulders! Ack!

He hands it over, and with a sigh, he adds, “Please take care of Kyu-won.” Shin: “Do you only worry about Kyu-won? Shouldn’t you be thinking about how Professor Jung feels right now?”

He calls Kyu-won in time – she’s right outside the campus. He drives right up to her and makes up the excuse that the director especially asked him to take Kyu-won out. Ever since she got hurt, she’s been getting pummeled at all sides by her fellow classmates, and so Shin is going to take her out per director’s orders. Despite her insistence on not skipping class, she’s easily persuaded.

The phone rings, and Shin immediately guesses it’s Bo-woon. I mean, who else could it be? That girl has the best timing in the world! He confiscates her phone for the day.

Seok-hyun enters his office, where Yoon-su is waiting for him. He apologizes and tells her the truth, and Yoon-su figures out that they got set-up all because Hee-joo couldn’t perform that day in front of the sponsors. Seok-hyun thinks it’s unfair since Hee-joo will be starring in the actual show, but Yoon-su knows better: Hee-joo’s mother actually has no confidence in her daughter’s talents, and is afraid that Kyu-won truly is the more talented one.

Seok-hyun quitting will not solve the problem; he will have to tell Tae-joon that he’s taking Kyu-won out of the show. Of course, he doesn’t want to do that, but Yoon-su reminds him that Kyu-won isn’t his only student.

Shin and Kyu-won stop at a pit-stop for some lunch. He buys her a pair of awkward shades shaped like a TV, and then feeds her fries. Hee hee… She feeds him right back, and stuffs a bunch into his mouth. They play some of the arcade games – and Kyu-won proves to be way better than him. And thus they enjoy a wonderful day together!

Seok-hyun swallows up his pride and goes to Tae-joon. He denies there’s anything between him and Kyu-won, and that he’ll take Kyu-won out. They still need an understudy, so he’ll just pick anyone for it. Tae-joon can barely contain his smile, and says it’s all up to Seok-hyun. Though Seok-hyun thinks that will be enough for Hee-joo’s mother, Tae-joon says they’re all going to have a meeting about it soon.

At practice, the Three Angry Girls are now sympathetic and nicer to Hee-joo. After all, she must have suffered so much from Kyu-won’s backstabbing right? Ugh – excuse me while I go to the kitchen to grab some eggs to throw at them…

Jun-hee overhears this and looks quite uneasy. When Seok-hyun arrives for practice, he dismisses the bands, and then asks if Hee-joo’s feeling better. Of course that brat is – she friggin’ has her part back. Even Ki-young can see through her. But Jun-hee is conflicted, fully aware that the reason why Hee-joo missed the performance was because of him. I don’t think he’s figured it out completely yet, but he does think the whole situation is a little weird.

Shin and Kyu-won stroll down a shaded lane, talking about their respectively-deceased father and mother. They promise to show each other a photo of their father/mother, but Shin only wants to go over when Grandpa isn’t around. Kyu-won thinks dirty – but that’s totally not what he meant. He just doesn’t want to hear Grandpa’s life stories!

Then again, maybe it’s better if Grandpa is around, because otherwise he won’t be able to control himself!

The Chancellor holds a meeting with Tae-joon, Young-min, Seok-hyun, and Yoon-su. Tae-joon suggests that Kyu-won leave the school for a while. Even if she’s not in the performance, her presence in the school is not going to quell the rumors. (Is this how he slyly got Ki-young kicked out too?)

He wants her to take a leave of absence for the rest of the semester, and for the fall semester. The Chancellor agrees that this is a good idea, but Seok-hyun is outraged. Is Tae-joon seriously going to ruin a girl’s future like this? He grabs Tae-joon by the shirt and says, “It was you wasn’t it? You’re the one who sent the text with my phone to Kyu-won.”

Furious, he tells the Chancellor that he quits. No one can touch Kyu-won – he’ll just quit instead.

Whaaat?!!?!?

Yoon-su chases after him. What’s he going to do now? He doesn’t know either, so she proposes to him – how about they get married? (!!!!!) If they announce their engagement, then both Kyu-won and Seok-hyun can stay on the team. They’ll be rid of the scandal again. (Hey – I kinda like this plan…)

But Seok-hyun apologizes – he can’t do that. Can’t marry her, or can’t compromise his honesty like that? Either way, she’s hurt he would choose Kyu-won’s status in the production over her.

Hee-joo practices scales by herself, but is having trouble reaching the higher notes. Jun-hee comes in (even though he’s not supposed to visit her) and confronts her. Can’t he just tell the truth about being with her that day the sponsor came? He feels like Kyu-won and Seok-hyun are suffering because he lied, but Hee-joo yells for him to not say anything still.

When Shin goes off to the bathroom, Kyu-won decides to search for her phone in his bag. She finds a whole bunch of missed calls and texts from Bo-woon, and finally calls her back. She finds out that Seok-hyun just quit, and when Shin comes back, she tells him that they need to rush back to school.

Shin wants her to sit down; he saw her come home last night with the director. He knows what happened, so they can skip the explaining part. He purposely took her far away, and the director knew it too. Kyu-won doesn’t want Seok-hyun to take all the blame himself, and she insists on going back.

Shin grabs her: “Don’t go. If you go, it’s over between us.” WHAT!? Are you really going to hang that threat over her head?

Kyu-won keeps going. Shin stops her again and grabs her into a hug: “Lee Kyu-won. Please don’t go.”

Comments:

Erm. Eh? I think the ending kind of put me on a bit of a tailspin there.

This episode went from awesomely adorable to oddly dramatic. There’s tension and conflict, but it feels forced. Everyone seems to pick up on the truth that Team Hee-joo is orchestrating this scandal, but then their actions seem to be an overreaction to the problem. Especially in Seok-hyun’s case – must he really need to quit? Why is he giving up his position of power? I thought Yoon-su’s plan was perfectly valid and a good one; it seems like he rejected that plan more because he doesn’t want to marry her (which in that case, ouch). It doesn’t help that he’s so gosh-darn confusing in regards to his feelings towards Kyu-won.

And Shin – why did he have to threaten that they’ll break up if she goes to Seok-hyun? Why go to that extreme? He has this tendency of needing to overprotect the object of his affection, and while it’s sweet, I feel like he could have helped a lot more in supporting her in front of everyone. Shin and Seok-hyun seem to be increasing the scandal’s power by running away from it, and by going to any lengths to protect Kyu-won. I was kind of hoping that for a drama with such honest characters, maybe we could have tension through confrontation instead.

Jun-hee needs to grow a spine and stop listening to Hee-joo. And Hee-joo can go croak like a toad for all I care.

Thanks for the recap! What a nice surprise to go with my coffee!

Shin hasn't proven yet that he understands what a BF can and cannot do. It wasn't that long ago that he thought stalking was showing love...
My guess is like the male leads do in most cliffhangy endings, he will end up backing down with his next statement, or one Stupid will being going solo again.

Now I get a better understanding of why they called their band Stupid .. with the actions of these two guys, it's pretty obvious :D

Kaedejun, thanks for the recap. What do you mean: "... the most awkward kiss ever...eyes wide open..." I've seen dozens of these kisses. every KDrama has at least one. Keep up the good work. Haven't decided yet to continue with this one...convince me.

Shin thinks he's protecting her. Maybe he thinks that she doesn't see how much he cares for her by doing this, and thus he said that last line.....? That totally made me gasp and wanting episode 12 so bad. My guess... she would leave ToT

I don't think Seok hyun really wants to marry Yoon su either. I was hoping he'd say a line like "I'm sorry, but I don't want to use you." I would've been happier, but now it's left even more open ended.

I still liked this episode. It had me squealing, especially at the Shin-Kyu won cutesy moments. I was never really invested into their relationship, until this episode. Yonghwa and Shinhye are just so natural and comfortable around each other, it's making me ship them. Their art museum date was just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shin is so cute and sweet!!!!!

ehhhh I dont like where this is heading. Some might see it as "cute" but I see it was way too childish and corny. Wheres the actual drama at??? Are we just gonna keep watching the leads being lame ("cute")? . Doesn't anyone else get the urge to hit Jun Hee in the face with a baseball bat?

It's like the writers came on Dramabeans and gave into the demands of the yonghwa fangirls

Also I must be the only one who DOESN'T think the lead couple have chemistry on and off screen? When I watched the YAB bts I got this impression that yonghwa actually likes shinhye in real life...i could see it in his awkward actions. But shinhye has him in the friend zone, so i always feel awkward when I see them because I think yonghwa has acrush on shinhye and she doesnt even no and has permanently friend zoned him lol

Anyway yeah this show is going doooooownhill

I actually agree. I'm just not feeling the chemistry either. It's crazy, because I totally felt it between her and Ki-young when she was encouraging him before their sponsor-performance . . . but when her and Shin hold hands or kiss, I feel nothing.

I can't help but think they've sacrificed plot development in order to cater to fan-demands. At this point though, it just made everything seem rushed and forced.

Surprisingly...............I agree.
I was actually a huge fan of both, and I even loved them as a couple before, and that mainly the reason why I watch this drama..
But here....... I just can't feel the chemistry..and I don't know why

totally agree with your Joon Hee comment! ...the dude is just SUPER annoying.....it's like someone deep fried his brain and fed it to the lions and in the earlier episodes when he kept screaming about wanting food and being all so hungry, i just felt like telling him to "GET THE F*** OUT!"

You're part of a small minority! I think they have great chemistry! Not sexy, passionate chemistry but easy-breezy chemistry that makes for some adorable scenes :)

And to the contrary, I thought the show started off REALLY slow. I mean, I honestly admit I was bored episodes 1-6. But after 7 it picked up! Sure it's been a hot mess in terms of drama, but PSH and JYH really pulled this series through with what I believe is their CHEMISTRY! :)

I agree with you!!! This is not a good drama... but I don't want to get into anything dense, hence why I am watching it (something I can easily fast fwd and not miss anything). But I definitely would not recommend it to anyone. PSH and JYH had a lot more chemistry as Shin Woo and Go Min Nyu. That time I was really rooting for Shin Woo to get the girl. This time ALL characters are blaaahhh and the writing is double-blaaaaahhhhhh.

It was cute when Ki Young asked if she already ate, with that bright hopeful smile... If only that could be something (but it won't).

Sometimes I want to blame the actors for sucking, but this time I'm pretty sure it's the writing.

Why is this show doing so badly in Korea whilst it is receiving fantastic response from elsewhere? This is really disappointing as both JYH & PSH are putting so much effort to make this work (of course the chemistry between them was so much better in You are Beautiful). Why does it not seem to be seen here? It has just been announced that it will end soon....only 15 episode. This is even more disappointing as the end will be rushed thus making it more painful.

I must say that both JYH & PSH are putting in their best effort into making this drama work. We all fully support you!! FIGHTING!!!

Hi sweet heart it isn't confirmed that will be 15 episodes yet and I think this drama deserve more attention but to who you say that :D

There's many reasons why it's doing badly. Maybe people are annoyed by certain flaws, maybe the theme don't appeal to them and other shows (on the same time slot) do. Generally, intl viewers are more attracted to rom-coms, while Korea don't like rom-coms as much. Imo, it's sorta odd that you're complaining about this, since it's not like the writing here is super good or anything.. It's sorta understandable that it's not getting high ratings.

And effort doesn't always equal to success. Plus, it's not like other shows' actors aren't putting in as much effort. It's not like they're lazing around and high ratings just landed on their laps.

Oops, I just remember this drama classified itself as a melodrama.. which it really isn't. It felt more like a rom-com to me, so I forgot and just called it a rom-com. I'll correct myself then, in general, dramas that only appeal to younger audiences don't do as well in Korea as it would internationally.

yeah, i also heard it aint doing all that great in Korea while we international fans are all gulping in every story they dish at us...maybe koreans are great critics of dramas and it's hard to appease them???...who knows the reason..

I think he absolutely know that she will go , but it was his last card to play, so he used it without really thinking.
His point is just to protect her because he really hurts even though she is not that weak.
The more I watch the drama the more I think it is him who needs to be protected, cause he is the one who can`t take those troubles.
He is the soft one and it is actually her strenght what he fell for....
(Because she never gives in and strikes always back.)
TO me his last act was more like I don `t konw how to stop you, but please please don`t go because I don`t know how to protect you there....It was more an admission of feeling helpless.
-
And I am sure she knows how he feels and why he does this...
-
Still it won`t help, she will try to help the director because that is her personality.
-
I think this might be a problem cause Shin will feel hurt and (kind of abandonded).
He might take it also as hurting his pride cause he knows the director is also been taken by her.
-
But I am sure they will find to eachother again...
maybe even their parents could be a help....:)

But he doesn't SAY it. Like he never actually says he likes her. His hurt is miles behind what the rest of them are feeling.

Not that I feel that much sympathy for KW, either, because her little white lies are just getting on my nerves anymore.

But, how hurt can the rest be?

Take KW for example. How hurt is she? Because she fell in love with S first and S did not recipocrate since he was in love with YS? But he did not intentionally set out to hurt her. So, why must he be made to pay for that?

As for the director, I don't see him getting hurt. He's happily going along doing as he pleases, not caring who HE hurts (YS, KW)

YS? She's hurt, yes, but it's the director's fault. Not S. And she inflicted her fair share of hurt on S as well.

Come to think of it, S is the only character that seems to be genuinely caring for other ppl hurting - albeit in a rather possessive manner.

Hmmm...if we were to tally up the hurt, Shin seems to be ahead here (YS rejection, Dad's passing and now KW).

Couldn't agree with you. That it's his last card to play. And it's also his admission of feeling helpless, not knowing how else to protect her.

I know Shin has been getting a lot of flack for issuing that ultimatum to KW but I think ppl should first see where that's coming from. Some ultimatums are meant to control. Shin's is a desperate attempt to protect. I hope KW realised Shin's motive and not get angry with him.

I've also read elsewhere where ppl have commented that it's only 3 days into the rship and Shin is already issuing ultimatums on her. How terrible etc. Well....in that case, I'd like to point out that it's 2 days into the rship and KW is already lying to Shin. That's terrible too. We know why she lied. To protect him from getting upset. And we know why he gave her an ultimatum. To protect her from getting hurt. I'll say they're even.

Now, if the drama can get crappy Team HeeJoo and the even crappier plot out of the way, I'd love me some more OTP screen time please :)

Errr... You cant really blame her
The text asked her not to tell anyone
And his attitude toward the director doesnt help it either
She just avoid the drama.

Plus, is is really a lie? I thought he was actually her metor and her friend who always support her

Anyway, giving out the ultimatum is the worst thing one can do in a relationship, no matter at which stage, and what is the reason

i 100% agree, the whole reason i (as a nonkorean) started to go into this whole kdrama craze (a loooonnnggg time ago) was because kdrama gave me a world where daydreams became real and logic really didnt have a role. It was always about watching something you know 99% of the time wouldn't happen in reality, but getting the heart skip just by watching made kdrama all the more addicting. So i say, the F*k the sudden poor plot and gave me drama. Either way still a fan and ill keep watching till the end!

regarding the scandal, i think all of us kinda expecting that it will involving Gyu Won and Seok Hyun since the beginning of the drama. i can tell that because Tae Joon has been hating Gyu Won for being involving in the production in the first place. (remember the audition for leading actress part?) basically Tae Joon is recycling the existing rumour Seok Has since broadway.
what shocked and puzzled me was the fact that Lee Sin is gambling his relationship over Seok Hyun scandal by threatening Gyu Won instead of trying to understand her intention. hmm... controlling much?

Shin knows Kyu Won is head over heels for him and that's the only leverage he can think of. He's trying to use their relationship to protect her. It's going to get nasty at school. He did similar thing by trying to keep their relationship a low profile to protect her from angry fangirls too. But it didn't end up too well either cuz KW got mad. So he took a step forward to reveal and opted protect her instead. Now, if he can't even protect her. What good is he as a BF? He would feel helpless if he couldn't even do a simple task like that and doesn't deserve to be by her side.

scandal- I see it now - its good against evil, plain and simple,.
If anything happens to Gyu Won you know that grandfather is not going to be happy specially if it is going to tarnish his name.
I hope this units the three generation of musicians and Shin and his mom and sister. If you put together those 5 and then add all the other people they know -Oh- what a war. We already know that the bitchy daughter Hee Joo has no friends and I would bet neither does her mom.
I want to see the bitches be brought to their knees.
Then the last episode better be a kick ass program!!!

Yoon-su's idea is pretty good and makes sense, I think too.
but maybe Seok-hyun doesn't want to marry her for the reason to save his butt and prevent him from quitting the production.
I'm probably wants to marry her but not in the way she is proposing.
he seems like a person who would fight against injustice by giving himself up rather that using other people to save himself..
OR he's just confuse with his feelings towards Kyu-won.. which is meh!
I'm not really digging the teacher and student love triangle-square thing :/ hehe

I'm sure the production team is trying their best right now but the drama is kinda all over the place. It's like a train with too many stops and the destination is nowhere in sight. Poor comparison but that's how I feel.

No offense to the fans of drama but I thought the drama wanted, somewhat, to emulate Dream High. Only the drama has more of the angst and the survival of young adulthood within the campus compound.

I sincerely hope the drama will get it together and regain their focus. Break a leg!

I agree. It is all over the place. I think initially the production team did have something concrete in mind but because of all the complaints they've been getting, they started changing the story. Now, it's just all over the place and what's worse, the MAIN plot has become : 1. Trying to get the lizard Hee Joo more attention and limelight.
2. Getting Seokhyun kicked out because some man (wimp) couldn't handle his jealousy

Frankly, I think it's pretty lame. And because of this, we have our OTP caught in the middle of it all and those aren't even their issues. Why can't the PD have the story to focus on the leads? Eg, how KW strives to learn singing and gukak, or how Shin and KW overcome issues with their music or how they deal with their family history.

The first few eps with Shin's dad was really beautiful and I had thought that moving on from that, Shin will somehow be influenced by his brief and poignant encounter with him. But we're not seeing any of that. That's such a waste of good acting and story build-up. If they are not going to build on it, what's the point of bringing in Shin's dad in the begining? They can always write him in the story as having passed away and we don't even need to know that Shin and his sis has different dads.

It's frustrating but I have to say that what totally saved this show is Yonghwa and Shinhye. If not for them being so natural and cute as Shin and KW, I would have abandoned this drama.

Thanks for the recap!! I totally agree, I mean, I don't mind angst and drama. But when it feels forced, it becomes a little hard to watch. Some writers manage angst and comedy really well and some don't. Though I think the scriptwriter (and PD?) for YFFM isn't doing that bad of a job. :)

Argh!! TJ and HJ's mother need to be bitch-slapped into oblivion. they are freaking adults and should start acting like one. It's mighty pathetic and immature to drag an innocent student into their mess. I am more disappointed in HJ than anything. I used to like her, despite her haughty exterior, coz she genuinely wanted people to recognise her for her talent and effort, now she's just being a coward who's hiding behind her mother's back.

SH, oh goodness, as an experienced director I thought he'd be a lot more tactful than that. c'mon, couldn't he have just talked to HJ or something? knock some sense into her maybe? YS was being amazingly supportive, although I know she feels it was unfair, she had to look at the bigger picture. I am kind of glad that her proposal was rejected, otherwise it'd be like SH using her to protect GW and that's something I seriously do not want.

S did come off as rather over-protective in this episode, I know he means well but I sort of wish he could be a little more confident in GW's ability to handle things. Putting her away from harm won't do much good to her and I hope he will come to learn that. I don't think what he said at the end was a threat, more like a helpless plea, one that he will regret saying I am sure. noooo~~ they can't break up now, they have been an official couple for like, what, 2 episodes!! Give me moar of the cute dammit.

Thanks for the wonderful recap.

But dont get me wrong. i liked this show because of the campus "drama". Where it was relatable. I like the kyu-won and hee-joo show downs. But this whole scandel where everyone over reacts and deals with it completely wrong ( maybe even a little out of character?) over pictures and black mail. Ugh. I just hope it doesnt last so long.
Also, I think im one of the few people who like the chemistry between kyu-won and shin. I think they look like how normal new college relationships would be. Their not completely " i'll die for you" kind of love. But pure sweet " im nervous, what should i do?" kind of love. I for one think its adorable(:

hi kaedejun,
i've been an avid follower of your recaps for YFFM. the title for this episode, "At That Place, At That Time," is the title of a song about regrets. Regrets for saying the words said, regrets for meeting, and regret for realizing that there will never be another love like this again. and the title just really gets to me bec. it has a really ominous ring to it. their separation may be semi-permanent... so enter the ki-yong-gyu won angle? But Heejoo's throat problems may mean that the school may have to reinstate Gyuwon again just to save the production. Don't you think?
I actually believe that Shin and Gyuwon have amazing chemistry, esp. after they officially became a couple. Maybe it's bec. JYH really is good friends with PSH.
I love this drama for its simplicity, it's real-ness and the music. Shin and Kiyoung really do have beautiful voices, huh?

I liked this episode, and i loved their chemestry, but Park Shin Hye always gets that with all of the actors she works with. Although they have even more in Yab.

I felt sorry for the teacher when she was rejected, she looked hurt, and he didn't justified his rejection, either

I think the director made a silly choice on quitting...but i loved how he sacrified himself to help a student. The bad teacher Tj, must have known how he would react and his ideals, that's why he set him up like that. However i don't get his reasons ...is it because of jealousy??? Really??!!! Pathetic.

i don't like the way Lee Shin overprotects his gif, he doesn't understand her and understimates Gw...if i were her, i would dump him...well, maybe not, he's too handsome u.u

Am i the only one who loved the final part??? His threaten is great, yes it was over the top...but if they split. He would be hurt, he would start hating her, and the bickering would be back!!! i love jealousy and angst in dramas ...

Heartstrings is doing a great job, and i enjoy each episode...and YES this is not dream high...why do they keep comparing it!!!...so every drama that has music and young people would be a dream high???...it's just a common topic, but nothing else is similar...¬¬

I totally agree with your comments, kaedejun! I think how this episode progressed is the perfect example of evil done out of weakness. Hee-joo was beginning to redeem herself in ep. 7 thru 9, but I guess they just can't have that.

Still hoping for a happy ending, this is my prediction of how things will go: Lee Shin and Gyu-won will break up because Gyu-won goes to the director to "rescue" him. (By the way, I love how people think of themselves being so important that they can help a situation when they really don't. Lee Shin called it in this case.) The production will be paralyzed without the director and Hee-joo struggling to perform. Taejoon (? the evil teacher) will fail to rescue the production so they have to beg the director to come back. Lee Shin and Gyu-won will suffer uncomfortable silences and meaningful long stares with each other for the time being without making up. The truth will be found out about the scandal (probably with Jun-hee drummer boy's help) and everyone will hate on the right people again. Hee-joo will lose drummer boy's affection as a result and realize she actually really likes him. The festival will be successful eventually. Lee Shin and Gyu-won will be back in each other's arms making beautiful music together.

Side note: I totally believe Lee Shin is the best b/f character in dramas ever, not that I've watched that many of them. He is honest, protective, quick to admit fault, and wants to spend his time with his girl. What's not to like? Anyone who's been in love can relate how not wanting your loved one to be hurt. Keep in mind, for this character this is his first relationship so he's not that skilled, but his heart is in all the right places.

I'm off my soapbox now!

I'm going to join you on this soapbox because I think your predictions are both reasonable and most likely accurate. I think Shin has been an adorable b/f and I think the rest of us forget what its like to actually be at crossroads with someone. Yeah, his statement was a little over-the-top and I agree that it was out of desperation, but that's what we do when we don't know how to handle situations. We revert to the only solution we *do* know...even though ultimatums occur in pretty much every drama that we watch. A reflection on the writers?

As I'm reading others' comments about how this is so confusing, I'm actually understanding how they put this together. They've played on the characters' weaknesses, whether its the director's favoritism of KW, KW's naivety, JH's blind love for his Natasha, or HJ's/Mom's insecurities. They've done a good job showing the characters faults, made these faults believeable, and then use a simple rumor/scandal to throw everyone off balance is actually smart. Comparatively, we see dramas like Marry Me, Mary and Lie to Me that fail in this respect.

The only thing that I don't understand is Tae Joon and I never understood him. I rewatched the first few episodes to try to figure out when he started turning into an evil jerk, but there really was no reason. At first, he was just wanting to please the chairman. Maybe he felt upset that his toes got stepped on. Jealously was mentioned in this episode, but honestly...that's what I don't get. I'm not sure what took him over to the dark side, but I'm actually quite furious that he would use KW to get back at SH. It's one thing to get back at someone--he's already doing that. But like Shin said, she still has to go to school. She will live with the rumors for the rest of her life. How fair is that just for your own ego?

I hope HJ croaks, too! I regret ever pitying her...

I think that the Tae-joon character is going the nasty route because he's motivated by jealousy.

I believe in the first episode he was in a rather one-sided relationship with our sad ballerina, who at the first appearance of her ex-hottie coming back into her sphere, cut the relationship with Tae-joon as soon as things got serious again with Director. She broke one or two dinner dates with TJ - remember him sitting in the restaurant and getting the call from her?

I think that his character is motivated by petty revenge against the "Golden Boy" - jealous enough to try and drive him away by destroying his reputation and relationship with the ex-twirler.
:)

i find your predictions fairly logical. i also thought that, bet. SK quitting, HJ losing her voice, and TJ-the-evil-one taking over, the production would go down the drain and they will be forced to reinstate both SK and KW.
I thought TJ-the-evil-one was the one responsible for KY having to leave the school bec. of his stage fright during a major performance (perhaps ordered to do so by the Mom of all evil?) so his wanting to remove KW from school was not new to him. I guess the evil duo have a long history.
BTW, I hope HJ DOES croak (I mean lose her voice, not die, okay?)

I want to sympathize with Heejoo here. I see how sad she must be having her own mother question her competence as a performer. She might be doing this to at least appease her mother - since she obviously doesn't get her approval that much.

Heejoo's a total bitch, yeah. I specially dislike it when she's being mean to Junhee. I mean, who can be mean to someone as cute as him? Gah.

But for now, I see her being a mere puppet of her mother. I can't wait for the day that she'll be standing up for herself. I guess this setting up a good situation for when she proves to her mother, as well as her own self, that despite what others think of her, she's a very talented person and that she's capable of being a better performer.

I just can't wait until she stops being the antagonist because I know her mother's the real villain here, along with Taejun. However, I think it's still too early in the series for her character to turn a full circle. Maybe next week, she'll improve.

Plus, I miss the cute 2hee moments! Where is my cute couple? TT

Thanks for the recap, Kaedejun!

I kinda liked the episode, but I also think that here we're seeing the direct fallout of having the PD retreating to the writer's room and abandoning his director's chair. The choppiness of the editing didn't help either - the story line just didn't bring the "angst" factor where it needed to be.

How much do I HATE those deer-in-the-headlights kisses?!?! UGH! Wide-open eyes, frozen face, no reactions - it was like watching Shin brand a cow, and about as romantic. The only thing missing is that she wasn't hog-tied and on the ground waiting for the branding iron.
Even if those types of kisses are generic to Kdrama, it doesn't make them palatable to modern viewers - there are ways to do them (think City Hunter and LMH's nightclub kiss to NaNa - she was in frozen shock, but the scene sizzled!). Granted, this is a teen drama, but c'mon already!

Loved the art gallery inclusion. Actually, this gallery was shown a few weeks ago on We Got Married with the newest couple (David Oh & ?) and was uber-cute! Fascinating place - it reminded me of the Gilmore Girls episode "Living Art".

The ending of this episode didn't surprise me - this has been advertised as a MELO drama - and it's time for the melo part of it to happen, silly as it seems. Too bad the writers don't just kick the Stage Mother From Hell to the curb, put Hee-Joo in the chorus as punishment for her desperate sneakiness (and continue with her laryngitis) and put our leading lady out in the front where she belongs.
Oh, wait - dollars to donuts, this is probably going to happen - Dream High, anyone?! I hope so - we need to cheer for our two leads at the end, right?!
:)

Loved the art gallery scenes. They were so cute together.

I think Shin has gone overboard. Before he treated her badly and then finally, he came to the realization that he liked her. He got super over protective and a little too possessive for my tastes.

His ultimatum to Gyu Won is his desperation and his insecurity about their relationship. Shin shouldn't make an ultimatum if he really doesn't really want to break up. It may come back and slap him in the face.

I hope she leaves him so that leaves some room for Gyu Won and Ki Young to get together. I loved them singing together and I think they make a better couple.

There is something missing in this drama. This drama needs more plot! It is all over the place.

Thanks for the recap! You're so fast!

I hate how they're forcing the melo onto the story. After so much cuteness, I knew to expect things to go sour, but I really didn't like how they went about it.

The break up card makes no sense. Especially after he's proven to be the perfect boyfriend: caring, protective, gentle, understanding, trusting, supportive, adoring her every move. Really boy? Threatening to leave her is about as effective as telling her to keep liking you for no reason. Why not just hold her hand and say I've got your back? Maybe the smartass little sis will help bring some sense to him next episode...

I hope the director gets his acts together and do something useful. The ballerina teacher is trying so hard to help and faithfully so, I hope she'll get some vindication in the end. I get that she might have stabbed his back in the past, but I think he's done enough wrong to her by now: blowing off dates and never listening to her advice, and worst of all, focusing his attention on someone else.

And Ki-young. What an adventure it was to bring him to the musical. Now he's just there looking pretty without adding much to the plot. Come on drama!

i kind of wish that the conflict in this drama is about the love 'square' (?) between the 4 leads and not some lame ass hee joo who is not even that good in singing. Ugh, I feel so sad for kyu-won....and to be honest, i feel a little weird seeing lee shin so nice and sweet, i think i might be a little mad but i actually prefer them being in a tension of lee shin wooing kyu-won but kyu-won not realising.

but, maybe if the love square will come into full force, perhaps it'll be more exciting! i think maybe we can see that more in ep 12 where the director will try and protect kyu-won, and kyu-won offering her help to him which can really fuel romantic tensions between the 4 leads.

go go YFFM, i really support this drama!! hwaiting! ^^

Sometimes i cant help my eye rolling towards the over kdramatic storyline. But still, this show is bunch of cuteness and fun. Thats more than enough :)

Eh. I like Jun Hee and all, but that drummer boy is straight up dumb. I hope Shin totally knocks sense into him via head slap. And where the Hell is Hee Joo's father? I would like to believe he's actually decent and will completely set his wife and daughter straight. I mean I would be furious finding out that shit was going on under threat of my name and position. God I literally can't wait for the backlash! It's gonna be epic.

In a sense I think this whole protection idea is overdoing things. The lengths these two go to keep her from the scandal actually belittle her in a sense because both leads act like she can't handle it. Why can't she decide whether or not she needs protecting? Shin's a kid so you can kind o understand that for him, this is the best he can do. He still needs to learn that bf doesn't mean he can tell her what to do but it's mostly harmless because he's well meaning.
Seok-hyun incriminates himself even more by going to these lengths to protect her. You'd think that if he has ben in this type of situation before he'd know how to handle it better the second time around.
As soon as he realized he was set up he should have had her leave separately from him OR called his girlfriend over which would have pretty much negated this whole attempt. I'd love that the adult in this drama actually think like an experienced adult. Who leads her to his car to drop her home??
He would have been better off attempting to downplay the whole situation instead of reacting exactly the way they want him to. Also it's not like the chairman can force her to take leave for the semester so his reaction is again over the top.
Meh, this drama has the cute bw the leads down pat but it still has to work out plots that fit the characters. I have no problem with there being a scheming Mom and daughter thing. I'd just like the good guys to think and not all be martyrs.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing--the director doesn't act like much of an adult. If he HAS been in this situation before, he would have thought over and over and over again how he could have gotten out of it. And he left looking so suspicious that everyone would believe the rumors rather than calling for witnesses...

I have read all the comments, but everyone is forgetting one important scence in episode 11 and that is that Hee Joo is losing her voice. If she loses her voice all that they have schemed for is gone because she will not be able to perform. No one has commented on that aspect.

I noticed this, too. Is the bulimia finally catching up to her? All of that throwing up and acid hitting your throat can kill your vocal chords. Maybe her punishment is that she will never sing/talk again *dreams*

Lol I agree. Anyways, what I think is that Hee Joo will gradually start loosing her voice so in the end, she won't be able to do the play. Then the understudy will have to fill her in which means Gyu-Won will play the part of the main lead. I mean she's the main character, if she doesn't play the main lead of the 100th anniversary play thingy, then there really is no point i guess...
