Cable’s empress of the night Jang Shin-young

For those of you interested in the new cable drama Empress, starring Jang Shin-young (I Am Legend) as a femme fatale out for revenge, a reminder that it premieres tomorrow on E Channel.

Here are a few more stills from the drama, featuring Jang in her role as In-hwa, an upscale bar hostess who swears to take her revenge against the world’s corrupt rich men. Based on the Japanese manga and drama Jotei Kaoruko, the title empress is figurative, as In-hwa rules over the night and her powerful, dissipated clientele.

It’s not exactly clear what form her so-called revenge will take, and I wonder if the drama will be making the femme fatale descriptor a literal one. More likely she’ll just do some shaming and exposing of skeletons in closets, perhaps aiming to impoverish the ones who trampled over her life so carelessly in her youth.

The drama airs for 13 episodes on E Channel, beginning on Saturday, October 1.

OoO I really like this actress even though I think her talent was wasted in I am a Legend. She has one of those presences onscreen that makes you pay attention. Hope this will be a good project for her.

fashion tangent: awesome job by the stylists (...b/c i also have that dress, or something VEEEEERY similar, in midnight blue... it's probably one of the most flattering dresses i've ever worn (took me from average to wow), so it of course takes jang shin young from pretty into jaw-droppingly gorgeous :)

Basically, she will use her beauty to talk while serving those guys wine. She is dedicated hostess, who understand customers and listen to them. She also use information to fight with bad and corrupted guys. She is kind of in white and grey area.....Overally, the drama tone would be quite heavy...
I wonder who would act as her silent lover/guardian????

This is going to be interesting! I loved the Japanese manga and drama so I can't wait to see how it's translated in Korea. I wonder who will be playing Matsuda Shota's role...cause I really really realllly love him in that role.

I loved Jotei, I watched the japanese version some years ago. However, I didn't like the lead actress. good God, she looked like a middle-aged housewife and not a top hostess turning 20. I didn't like Ella Chen when I started watching Hana Kimi but she completely won me over with her cute antics and passionate acting. The actress in Jotei was dull and uninspired.
I hope Korean version will be better. I'll keep an eye on it.
