We as humans are only concern when tragedy affect us in a clear and present manner, otherwise at the end of the day we do not give a flying “Fu*k,” about the rest of the world.
I may pretend to care but lets face it, the only consequences that we are suffering till this day is the collapse of the economy that started with the aftermath of 9/11, other than that, I did not lost a love one in that tragedy, so even when I pretend to care at the end of the day I am just like the rest of the world, at this point in time 9/11 is just a past memory, that with the passage of times is becoming more irrelevant, to the point that people will not give a rats ass about this incident 10 years from now.
I am like the rest of the people in this blog , that chooses to comment, on the latest drama, or the latest movie, or the latest gossip, rather than to reflect on the reality of what 9/11 is really all about, why you may asked?
Because at the end of the day “I do Not Care” about others, I can pretend but, the reality is more scary, more painful, more unsatisfying, that I rather spend my time, lost in a fantasy world created by K-dramas and movies, than to help my next door neighbor.
So what is the difference here? The difference is that I am capable to admit that I do not care, that I do not give a fuck about the rest of the world, But the sad reality is that while I am here typing this words and wasting my time in this blog, that is full of people who ware a mask, and put on fake personas, and pretend to care for one another, at the end of the day I do not care what happens to most of you, some of you could die tonight and I will not care, and I am completely aware that if I die tonight, most of you will not give a rats ass about it..........
So for what ever is worth, my regards to the people of New York, in such a day of remembrance, when 10 years ago Islamic extremist, killed thousands in the name of God........I knew there was a reason why above all, I hate religion.
Yet again, my response to your posting is... umm, what is your point?
I bother to say this because you seem to clearly have an agenda, and seem to clearly be angry with some people, but I can't for the life of me figure out who your target(s) is (are).
don't mind him, even though it's hard. I feel like I should say a lot to him every time but he doesn't understand when I'm subtle, and I seem mean spirited if I am not. Also he's an elder so let's just ask him about his blog from time to time.
Preaching to the choir, I know.... But... Please Please Please Please study for exam before hand, take exam, then watch Kdrama. A good quality education is the only way to get a good paying job!
someone is watching the musical ? wow dramabeans didn't watch it yet or didn't like it? i though in the posibility of watching it,but here few people pay attention to it,i hoped a new dream high and i am still waiting foir what's up
I watched the first episode of The Musical. It was entertaining and funny. The kind of drama you want to watch to be entertained and relax after a week of hard work. They have a good cast. Love the main character Go Eunbi.
Me too! The Cha family is so amazing! I think it's the first time ever when I see a (2nd gen) chaebol's father being so freakin' funny, warm and cool. You can really tell he loves and cares so much about Ji-heon.
Where exactly do you think their relationship will go? It almost seems as if there was/is a love triangle between the dad and the two moms! Any thoughts anyone?
All is fair in love and war! But it's not just that. The brother has passed away for a long time. And in some cultures (Not sure if its in korean culture though) its perfectly fine to marry your brother's widow. Infact some consider it the duty of the brother, if he's single, to do so.
@aoiaheen, i'm not sure either. I just wasn't sure whether it would be socially/culturally acceptable since she was married to his brother and they have a (grown) son even though he's dead.
If it's culturally acceptable then I'm shipping fo rthem all the way-I love their interactions!
@tash
I think the law changed about being able to marry widows/widowers. I watched snowman and it seemed like there was a change anyway. but the scandal I mean if I read something like that in the news my nasty mind would think there was something going on before they were both widowed.
looking forward to this secondary (or tertiary) romance then :) But in earlier episodes i was getting the vibe that there were latent feelings there (like from before she married his brother)...hopefully that's just my (nasty) mind going places ;)
Does anyone else reckon something could go on between Bong-man and Suk-hee? I mean, they're both motivated by the same things (love for their sons) and are pretty ruthless - they'd make a great match! But apart from those 2, Granny is so funny. I love when she gets them all around for family dinner, its spectacularly tense, awkward and hilarious. I loved in ep 11, how Ji Heon was the only one eating, it was classic.
I don't know about a love relationship between BM and SH. They were friends before she married his older brother, right? I'd like to see them be friends, sort of like their sons, and have a healthy relationship of friendly bickering. I agree Granny is so hilarious!
I think they had a thing in the past, like they dated once or one liked the other before they ended up with their spouses. They kinda have that former crush vibe going.
yeah, there's def something right? I'm not imagining it? Or maybe its just that I've watched so many kdramas that I can't watch a man and woman bicker without thinking 'oh, they're sooo getting together' =\
I don't think I've laughed so hard at a drama in a long time!
Oh my goodness, the entire Cha family has me smiling before they even begin their childish acts! I love how even though it's a bit exaggerated, so many adults truly act as children still! =]
Same here! It's my bday today and my bday wish is for the Drama Gods to make PTB a trend-setter, ushering in a new era of K-drama rom-coms. More dramas full of flawed but endearing characters who really care about one another (even in times of conflict) and who openly express their feelings for one another, please. Save the disempowered heroines, evil sabotaging 2nd leads, heartless chaebols, Big Misunderstandings, Noble Idiocy, histrionics, and contrived conflicts for the melos-- those conventions are becoming passé, at least in in rom-coms. (Capiche, Drama Gods?) Instead, gimme some relationship-centric dramas with kick-ass heroines, adorably neurotic characters, conflicts that feel organic, lots of cute and touching moments, and plenty of squeeworthy bromance-- and I'll be a very happy camper.
happy birthday, I hope you get your birthday wish. also, I'm only up to episode 3 and it reminds me very much of my name is kim sam soon, but funnier. How ridiculous are the two cousins "jamming" each other repeatedly. ji sung and jae joon(?) are both soo funny and with straight faces!
Where is everyone watching PTB? Is it on vikii? I know it isn't on Dramafever, they seem to be picking the lamest dramas lately: Birdie Buddy, Myung-Wol, and now Dream High - I know some people are jazzed about Dream High but I detested it...
I thought Heartstrings was also a lame pick (granted it was really popular on that site and here abroad) when Viki had City Hunter, Scent of a Woman, etc. But DramaFever picked up Warrior Baek Dong Soo so I'm glad for that! :)
Haha that's cute...it would be distinctive so, yes, I think it's a great idea!! (not sure how well that would go over well with others but you're welcome to do it to me LOL)
Protect the Boss is my absolute favorite right now! I hate really mean bad guys and heavy angst. Protect the Boss has been great about treating even the controlling moms with a light touch.
happy friday!
anyone watching office girls? just watched ep 3 (3 episodes in one sitting) and it had me all in smiles, epecially one scene (coughhousecough)
on another note, seriously behind on spy myung wol. can't believe its over already!
I also checked out the first episode of A thousand kisses and frankly wasn't all that impressed. I know its a 50+ drama so slow development should be expected. any thoughts on this?
Eh eh, I like him too. I'd say it's difficult to compare them because Lee Dong Wook is all angst and intense stares while the main actor of A Thousand Kisses plays an ordinary, easy going guy. Even though he's not as pretty as LDW, he's hot and he has charisma, and his confident manner makes him come off as both natural and cool... Anyway, I'm not going to write an Ode to him, it's just the general impression I got from watching a few episodes of the drama. ^^
I think he's very good! His name is Roy Qiu and he's acted in quite a few dramas. But the only other one of his that I've seen is Eash Fortune Happy Life and he was 2nd male lead in it. I liked that drama too.
Office Girls (TTV / SETTV, 2011)
Xia Jia San Qian Jin (2011)
Liao Zhai 3 (CTV, 2010)
Jia Qi Ru Meng (Hunan, 2010)
Easy Fortune Happy Life (TTV / SETTV, 2009)
Woody Sambo (TTV / SETTV, 2008)
Yours Always (MediaCorp, 2006)
On Tribe (2005)
Wind Warrior (TTV, 2005)
Ping Pong (2004)
Starry Starry Night (2003)
Original Scent of Summer (CTV, 2003)
You Jian Ju Hua Xiang (GTV, 2003)
Haha wow! Easy Fortune Happy Life was the first Taiwanese drama I watched - aaaaages ago, and I could never remember what the title of it was, but your comment just triggered my memory. Thanks, internet friend! =p
erm aren't there two leads? do you mean ryu jin or "tae oh" from my sweet city and birth of the rich? I have to say ryu jin is very charming I saw him in 3 dramas so far but he's no lee hyun woo. hmmph
Yes! Office Girls! I'm eagerly waiting ep 4. I'm not toooo keen on the lead girl (though I love her best friend!) but I think this is her first ever lead role so she'll probably get better with time. But Roy Qiu... He is just so incredibly good looking. And I really think he's nailing this role! I've only ever seen him in Easy Fortune Happy Life and Woody Sambo and he played second male lead in those. I'm glad he gets the girl in this one!
Happy Friday! I love Office Girls and have been pouncing on the new episodes as they get released on Sunday. Love the main girl, her BFF, and His Hotness, Roy Qiu. It gives me a happy feeling similar to when I watched PTB (though PTB is #1 for me right now!) Been tired of the tw-dramas that were released these past two years not matter how big the fandom, and Office Girls brought me out of the slump!
I'm wondering if this is why he tried to leave the show a few weeks ago. He may have been trying to wrap things up before the news broke, because I'm guessing he knew about the tax thing before this week.
you know, i'm thinking its either that or there's some power play that get Hodong into this scandal. its just too coincidental to happen all at one time.
I know! I was wondering how jb and gf would respond. I'm surprised they haven't posted about it. They always talk about how necessary he is to keeping 1N2D entertaining and fun. I wonder how it'll be with him completely off the show for a while.
Nope, don't worry. In the words of Ricky, our Royal Highness my eyebags have now become eye luggage, but i don't regret marathoning PTB one bit! It is too good, to disappoint.
So many dramas, so little time! Absolutely true!!!
Real life matters cause me to be too tired and preoccupied to be commenting regularly in the OT, bourbon. My royal presence will try to make an appearance weekly though.
Annyeong! Chal chineso! I had a new student today in one of my classes named Ricky, and all I could think of when I saw the name was Your Royal Highness.
WHAT?! Who dares to use my name?
Oh well, technically "ricky" isn't my real name so he's safe from my wrath. Heh.
You know, I have a strange idea that all Ricky's in the world behave in the same way. He's probably somewhat vain if you get to know him a little better. And who knows, he might be a drama addict in disguise :)
In my life (especially on the American East Coast) I've known plenty of people named "Rich" or "Richie" or even "Rick" or "Richard," but you (Your Royal Highness) are the first "Ricky" I've known.
This student of mine who's your namesake seems like he'll be a good student (he'll do the work and not annoy me)... and maybe he can be thankful that the one Ricky I know predisposes me to think well of others with the name :)
I went to college with a "ricki val"+surname. We were in a singing group together, and he was the President. We got a thank you note from a retirement home address to "Miss Ricki Val Surname". Boy was he ticked....I told him to go give his mother grief for giving him a girl's name.
Before I met Your Royal Highness, the association I had to the name "Ricky" was really only this old ('80s?) song about some dude named Ricky. ("Oh, Ricky, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Ricky...) I don't really know what the song was about (roller skating?) and I only mention it here because there's a line in it that I actually really love... "you take me by the heart when you take me by the hand..."
A cheesy line in a cheesy song, maybe, but I adore it.
Oh, do I feel stupid! I guess the "Ricky" I was talking about in my song was actually "Mickey." I'm old enough to have heard these cultural references from the '80s and early '90s, vaguely, but not old enough to fix all of them into place.
Shel,
I don't know. The spelling plays a part.
"Ricky" is masculine while "Ricki" is feminine to me. Same goes with "Terry" and "Terri". Ricki/y Val seems like an awesome name though.
Sethe,
Believe me, I actually bullied some people to change Mickey to Ricky and to sang the song to me some years ago. Vain AND cheesy!
Hiiiii @ MJP,jomo,ramen_girl,RTRH,and all my frens here in OT...i missed the last 4-5 OT's because i have some stuff going on,which is taking up all my time and energy.sigh!!!! i haven't even been watching dramas lately... as today is korean chuseok ,i wanted to wish you all a very happy and prosporous chuseok...i know majority of us here in OT are not koreans, but the amount of time, love and care we've invested in K-dramaland makes us feel as if we are part-koreans now.so anyways, have a good weekend
I am totally caught up and it is still as awesome now as it was when I started it. But just to let you know if you are looking for a rom com where it's sole focus is the OTP and their loveline then you might be slightly disappointed since romance is probably the only tiny weak link in this drama. But the relationships between all the characters and the story is still great and moving as organic as it was in the beginning yet keeping it interesting. I love this drama, it is quite the gem.
Well, then maybe the puppy (Lee Seung Gi) will a little time to rest and then...A DRAMA! I wanna see him in something by the writers of Protect the Boss. I know, I know. Not everyone is obsessed with PTB. I'd love to see Seung Gi in a medical-comedy, kinda like Scrubs, but with a kdrama-slant and without all the crude humor.
Happy Friday, or Saturday, depending on whether you are in the future!!
Hope everyone is enjoying the beginnin of Fall (for the Northern hemisphere, anyway.) (What are the rest of you people in, like Wimmer, or Sumter, or Sprinter?)
Why didn't anyone tell me that Lovers in Prague was so good? I LOVED it!!!
I have a new love, surprise, surprise in Ha Jung Woo.
and he wasn't even the lead:
Even though it is put together by the same team as Lovers in Paris, it is nothing like it. At all.
Because it was the same team, there was a hint of Secret Garden in the OST, and a hint of City Hall in there with the father/son dynamics. And prolly a couple more hints that I can't recall right now...
It doesn't move fast, but all the characters are honest, and JDH is absolutely the best ever. I was sad after finishing the 20 episode. I could have watched 20 more.
Lovers in Prague, really? I've had a negative impression of that drama, but I couldn't really say why... by association with others, I suppose.
But you make it sound great, and I have a long weekend (Chuseok!) ahead of me...
Plus, manly men. If we mean the same thing by that, you really didn't need to say anything more.
My current "manly man," sad to say, is the sageuk man, with his long, unruly hair and his propensity for carrying lots of weapons on his person...
It just all comes back to what I kinda want to complain about here... watching kdramas just gives women unrealistic ideas about what the following things can be: 1: MEN 2: RELATIONSHIPS 3: LOVE (?)
Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. This weekend/beginning of next week is a big Korean holiday, Chuseok. They describe it as the equivalent of American Thanksgiving... celebrate the year's harvest and honor/remember your ancestors.
That last part, by the way (honor your ancestors) seems strikingly Confucian to me (based on two classes I took in college ;) ). One of my students yesterday was telling me about a big news story about how Koreans are starting to leave Western food (pizza and fried chicken) out at the graves of their ancestors, instead of traditional Korean food, and how this is a huge change...
Fall is my favorite season, but I haven't seen one for the last 10 years. I live in a place where is always summer like... :( Missing my home and the mountains where I grew up right now
Adding another handsome virle actor to your love pot, hmmm?
Fall is my favorite season. I actually decorated already in anticipation. But what I have the most of is Christmas decorations. I had tons of fall decorations stored in the basement, but they were victims of basement flooding. It's a good thing that I keep the Christmas decorations on the second floor or those would have been gone too.
I remember I made these table centerpieces from straw hats for a group event. They were so pretty! I also did a bridal shower all of a fall theme too! Here I go, looking for the pictures again!
Still Summer here though it is getting cooler in the late evening and mornings.
Thanks for the drama recommendations. Need something to tide me over as-shock, horror-I'm not that into PTB or MLBMS (except for reading the recaps here).
I must disagree with you about Fall, however. I'm not giving up on Summer until the Equinox comes, unseasonable temps and hurricane rain notwithstanding.
I do adore the new love of your drama life. What's he in? I think I need to add it to my queue :)
Fall is my favorite season mostly by virtue of elimination, though I do love the crisp Fall air and the the crunch of the different color leaves as I wade through them. The only fly in the ointment is the shorter days. It depresses me to see the days getting so short that it's dark by 4:30pm. I'm already sad to see that it's dark again by 7pm.
I loved the trailer for You're My Pet - I was really worried that it wouldn't live up to the manga/dorama, because its a difficult story to pull off if you don't have convincing characters - but I'm now cautiously optimistic! JGS seemed cute and Kim Ha-neul seemed very strong and Sumire-like.
I had the same apprehensions as you Eleven11, and even though the trailer was awesome... There was something about Kimi wa Petto KOYUKI!!!! that i loved too much for me to be open to watching the remake. (Which is the same reason i couldn't watch Ikemen Desu ne, nor Hana Kimi 2011.) I think it was also the fact that I'd just finished Hanadan, so to see MatsuJun transform into Momo who is passionate, from Domyoji who is bumbling, was amazing. Sometimes I wondered if it was the same actor!!
They just seem so pointless - esp HK2011! The first one was ok, sure, but that was only because of Oguri Shun and the guy who played Nakatsu - plus, it was only like, a few years ago!
I saw a clip of JGS' cameo on Ikemen Desu ne, it made me kind of glad I didn't watch the whole thing - his acting blew everyone else out of the water =\
I'm not usually a huge fan of doramas - my cute tolerance is pretty high, but even I find that it often gets dragged out at the expense of any substance - but I think the director and actors in KWP both did justice to the original work. I really liked Koyuki in that, its the first and only thing I've seen her in.
Yup, the very same. though when you look at them together, you really don't feel like there's that much of an age gap between them. Apart from the fact that they're BOTH timeless beauties, there is something so mature about MatsuKen. 28 is awfully young an age to be bringing a baby into the world, imo... but somehow, you know he's going to be a good dad. :)
Not sure if the extension will benefit the drama, but I adore the dad so much. (Yes, the dad, over the boys. :P)
Once the romantic angle came into play full force starting with episode 7, it lost some of its draw for me.
But this means another week wait for Tree with Deep Roots, which I can't wait to see...
As soon as he graced the screen in Hotaru no Hikari 2, I was immediately drawn to him.
I was trying to figure out WHY, since seeing him for a few seconds doesn't exactly allow me time to fall into dai suki! with his character.
The best explanation I can come up with, is that something about him reminds me of Shin Dong-wook in Soulmate. And even to fickle me, that of actor obsessions that eventually fade, Shin Dong-wook and his character in Soulmate forever holds a piece of real estate in my heart.
I'm not saying they look similar, but it's just something.. I can't put my finger on it.
And then as I continued to watch, I liked Mukai Osamu and his gorgeous smile, more and more.
And FYI, his photo on dramawiki definitely doesn't do him justice. It's not that he's not photogenic, but he looks immensely better in video.
I want to watch Paradise Princess so badly now. (He's the lead with Kitagawa Keiko; way too much pretty on screen! :D) Does anyone know where I might be able to download this movie? I can't find it available anywhere yet.. :(
Happy friday everyone! I'm later than usual today... work got in the way. I feel like a good girl , actually doing my job :)
WBDS is getting extended :) and they brought back the bromance for a short while (Yippee!) It looks like the OTP's are going to be DS/JJ and YW/JS. So I'm liking the way that it's going. I think GH is going to have a broken heart where YW is concerned. I kind of like thier relationship. YW has been doing much much better these last 2 episodes.
In an earlier post belleza mentioned that Chun was a black belt in kendo! Imagine! Another reason to love the man. No wonder he looks so cool when he's fighting. I absolutely loved the fight between Chun and YW. Both really show emotion while fighting. "murderous intent" the subs say.
Oh no, really? I haven't watched episodes 19-20 of Warrior Baek Dong Soo (they aren't on DramaFever yet, right?) but if Ji Seon and Dong Soo aren't the OTP I feel like he'll never recover... Remember the post dramatic stress disorder he had when he thought she was dead? :(... My poor Dong Soo!
well, nothing is confirmed. It was just my feeling. But don't worry too much about DS. Don't you think Jin Ju will be better for him? You know, she's strong, she's smart, she can help him out. If he has to become Joseon's best swordsman, he'll need to be with someone whom he doesn't need to worry about all the time. YW on the other hand really doesn't have much ambition. He can spend all his time stalking and saving people.
And DS, I think he went into dramatic stress disorder, as you say, because of guilt at stabbing her coupled with the fact that YW betrayed him.
Jin Ju!! Now that girl kicks ass! I would jump with jubilation if she and Dong Soo ended up together. I mean we all know that a girl that makes you THAT crazy when she leaves you is not good for you. Besides Jin Ju is sooooo cutely in love with him. Un would be better for Ji Seon as well. He would give her more responsibility and not blindly protect her like Dong Soo does. He wouldn't put her on such a high pedestal. Plus Un is so awesome on his own that even Ji Seon's expressionless face couldn't bring him down!
I so love Chun. Is it really true that he coiud have been in Gladiator if he didnt banish himself to the mountains after beating an old guy up? Why did he do that? I would have disovered him earlier since Gladiator is one of my fave movies.
I think JS has more of a connection with YW than DS and DS has more connection with JJ so I would be happy if they end up like that. But knowing DS he won't let JS end up with YW.
I loathe JS--it's almost ruining the series for me. JinJoo and Chun [and in the past Ji] were the only reasons I was watching the show. To be honest BDS doesn't deserve JJ, that painter guy is a lot more interesting, and I love him even more for liking JJ.
I know what you mean. I don't have anything against the JiSun character. I think she needs to appear delicate but with nerves of steel. Its just that Shin Hyun Bin potrays her so badly that I can't seem to get over silly little things. Like the way she seems almost patronizing of Jin Ju. I'm pretty sure the character is not meant to be that way. And I think the worst was the torture scene in ep 20. Usually I cringe at torture scenes. Irrespective of who is being tortured, hero, villian, disposable extra, I fast forward the scene. But OMG, her cries of pain were so hilarious that I just to watch it for entertainment value.
In contrast to her was YSH, who looked so much in pain while watching her being tortured. I was totally impressed by his acting. Earlier I thought that he wasn't up to speed, but ep 20 made me take back my words.
I love this drama! I'm really not sure what the plot is (either I'm stupid or it's stupid, or both), but something about it really draws me in.
Sky Lord is AWESOME... a tormented, hot, sexy, badass swordsman... what's not to love? (Although I have to agree with someone who posted a while ago who wished he'd for once get all his booze down his piehole, rather than spilling it all over his face and chest.)
I love the Sword Saint... so calm and cool. Also love Dong Soo's new hairstyle and new maturity. I liked the assassin kid when he was younger, but he hasn't done much lately (although I am a few episodes behind). Monk girl is boring, I don't care at all about the ginseng story line, and Jin Ju does look a lot more mature than the boys. I really only care what happens to the older characters, though (namely, Sword Saint and Sky Lord).
I'm tearing up so much about Ho Dong issue!! Can't believe he'll retire.. *can not go out with my eyes now.. (-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩___-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩)
What do you think? I guess the story can afford two more eps and still be fresh as it has been since day one. I'm so in love with the Cha family, Moo Woon's mom and everybody that I don't wanna say goodbye to them (at least for now).
I think the writer/director combo is doing awesome at turning familiar tropes on their heads, so in that way I'm sure it'll be okay.
At the same time, with how low-key all the drama escalation has been so far, I'm worried what they're going to make the big denouement conflict.
...I am super excited after watching episode 9, though. There was the necessary tears of heading toward the climax...but it was the dad, and a confused (not love-broken) No Eun-Seul crying about much more relateable things than "I have turned my back on my love for his/her good!"
Well, the main storyline is the relationships between the family members and Eun-seul's relationship with each one of them, so I'm really not worried about how the drama will turn out with two more eps.
Yes! I think Eun-seul is the first female lead that isn't noble or annoying. When she does something, I understand why she's doing it and I'm nodding like "yeah, I get it. That's very reasonable". She's very logical and sensible, which I appreciate a lot these days where drama heroines are... not logical or sensible. Heeee.
I totally feel for her conflict! She had a hero-crush (heh, sorry) on Moo-Won, but a more real relationship with Ji-Heon, and now when she's trying to figure out how to keep things from going south (instead of just fretting), she finds out she is developing a crush...
But those boys make it so hard on her. One little encouragement and it's going to be a proposal and house deed signing. The Mom Duo is not helping her pressure any, either...
I think if the writers keep focusing on the family and friendship dynamics, then the drama can keep its rythm until ep 18. (More than that, like 20+ eps would be ruining the story and characters.) I'm sure they aren't gonna put romance as the main storyline through the rest of eps. because the love arcs are the weakest in the drama (cute and lovable though).
I am going through "My Love by My Side" withdrawl. I look for subs for that episode everyday.
If you haven't checkout that drama then you are missing out. It's up to episode 36, but subs have come out since episode 25, but i am learning to cope, lol.
I understand about the lack of subs. There are only so many subbers and with school back on in the USA (and possibly everywhere else) they have less time to do things. The all of the J/K/T dramas are going through the same thing, I've noticed. They will eventually get them done. I just watch the shows raw and wait for the subs.
I have actually started looking for websites to learn the korean. I bought two apps on my ipad to assist me with this and that's learning the alphabet first.
Any other suggestions in learning this language is very much welcome!!
Hi tinnybo. I was planning to learn korean as well. I was thinking of buying Korean for dummies because I don't really need to learn to write or read. I just need to understand. There was another book I was also thinking of buying that was "Korean, Basic: Learn to Speak and Understand Korean with Pimsleur Language Programs by Pimsleur"
Both of them come for less than 20$ so I'm not sure which one to actually go for.
I'm kind of excited about it actually. This is the second time that I actually want to learn a language. The last time was when I was in college. The boy I had a crush on, he used to speak urdu at home. So I tried to learn that. When I got over my crush I got over my desire to learn urdu as well. I have a feeling I won't be getting over my desire to learn korean anytime soon. :)
When I fiddle with learning Korean, I use Byki.com. Of course, I confess I learn more watching the dramas than anything else. But it has it in Hangul, Romanization and speaks it. You pick how quickly you want to learn. I like it, I just need to be more serious about it.
Hi tinnybo! http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/ is an excellent website for learning Korean...they have six levels of podcast lessons and pdf lesson notes--all free! Plus they have a bunch of other cool videos and podcasts too. I finished level one this summer but school just started and I haven't had time to do anymore. However I was pleasantly surprised how good the lessons are, and even though I only finished one level, I definitely can understand Korean a lot more than I could before! You should check it out :)
how is it? I am probably up to episode 18 or 19 and I peeked ahead and saw that the teacher more or less told her to come to her senses, did she relent?
Hope you are keeping well. As of today my mind, heart, body and soul has been invaded by the Rugby World cup 2011.. All Blacks FTW!!!
Anyone else gonna be following this?
Woo, I just watched the AB-Tonga game! It was a predictable result, but Tonga really brought it. Some of my friends are all cynical about it, but the RWC really brings out my Kiwi pride - its just so much fun!
This has been plastered all over my FB all day, may as well post it here (if my friend sees this, she'll kill me with her axe of cynicism):
Love the hakas. Tonga did well (everyone in their team were Tongans but most grew up in NZ).They did better this year than a few years ago. The AB seems to be a mix of island boys and Kiwi(s).
Its really fun to watch the smaler islands because they are very competitive and they play with so much pride and heart. I cant wait to watch the
Samoans/Fijians/Tongans play each other.
Both MJP Hubby and I think he is a handsome man and that there is no need for the surgery. But on Strong Heart Ep 92 his bandmates were teasing that he was the ugliest one out of all of them and that he was a weakling. And I really wonder how much of that razzing goes on behind the scenes in that group, the ranking of themselves on a physical level. It really is bothering me so much so, that I decided to post my concerns.
Why would they razz each other so much, so that they tear down a person's self-esteem rather than encourage and build the person's self-esteem up?
Frankly, I've seen some prank videos they have posted and they can get pretty ruthless with each other. Has anyone seen any videos they can share where they spend 10 minutes or so encouraging each other?
I haven't, but they really seem to have a thing for plastic surgery in Korea. I go to a Korean lady to have my hair cut, and she always has Korean magazines and newspapers. The last 10 pages or so of the mags always are plastic surgeons. I'd guess at least a third of the newspaper ads are. I don't know if it's that way in other parts of Asia....
I know KHJ finally admitted to some plastic surgery and frankly, I think he looked better before. The money would have been better spent on acting lessons, :0)
Hi, Shel! ***clears throat*** that's not my HUSBAND you're insulting, right?! Okay, so he had to get his nose worked on a bit - it only put polish on the perfection that is KHJ. As for that crack about his acting (or lack of), well, I just have to say that he's improving with each project. At this rate, he'll be another Lawrence Olivier in 20 years! :)
MJP@ - yeah, I watched that Strong Heart episode and was really rather horrified at the way the SuJu members were all so comfortable in ripping down each other. This group is coming across a bit like "Lord of the Flies" - the teasing/bullying is guy-stuff, but they step over the line when it comes to ridiculing physical appearance. I wonder if they're targeting Eunyuk now because Shindong is changing his appearance and they've been instructed by management not to target him?The "mommy" in me wants to sit these boys down for one of my lectures on behavior...
It's one thing that I've really noticed about these boy groups - the level of immaturity is really obvious. It's got to be due to the fact that these groups are removed from parental influences at an early age.
Another thing that I find sadly puzzling is that almost all of these idol groups have one or more individuals who are obviously gay and yet it's never addressed in any way - media, gossip, advocacy groups, etc. Is Korean society that repressive that it's not even an acknowledged subject?
LOL. I'll concede that he was a vastly betteractor in PK than he was in BOF. And, I hope he gets the chance to do more. We are big fans of his music, however. But I still think he looked better before.
I think he had his Bad plastic surgery corrected with a better surgeon who made his nose more natural looking and
symmetrical. It really bothered me before, but I wish they could be accepted Naturally
This is my main problem with the K-pop industry, there is more emphasis on looks than actual talent. Kinda reminds me of a commercial where people go into a machine and they come out looking like Ken and Barbie dolls.
I am not too familiar with Super Junior but I find it sad that they razz each other over physical appearance which may bring one's self esteem down. In addition the netizens can say hurtful comments like u r the ugliest of the group, etc. I just wish there would be someone who would say to them you don't need plastic surgery you are fine the way you are ot be like Mayblene from the Help 'You's kind, You's important, You's beautiful' (I think this are the words she says).
Personally I wonder how the stars feel to be mainly praised for their looks because after a few years they will grow older and be replaced by a much younger and better looking group.
I didn't know you were a star in the MLKSS drama series! I did a marathon last night to catch up from Ep 13 to the end. And now I know so much more about you! Ha! Ha!
Was that Mrs. Samsooki that the older sister and the chef were battering back and forth?
I am off to watch a TW drama because I haven't any Korean drama I feel like following besides PTB and Scent is ending.I can't even bear to go near soompi or viki in case I see any spoilers.
Anyway I wanted to ask: my new weekend drama both 50 episodes. Which one and why?
Ojakgyo Brothers vs A Thousand Kisses
I also don't need to worry about sub access I just need opinions.Thank you.
My pick would be A Thousands Kiss, just for the couple that Ryu Jin and Kim So-eun make. I am already SO excited about these two and the future development in their characters' relationship *squeee*
I have to say ojakgyo sounds very much like the three brothers and I really liked that drama, but the cast turned me off too. I really wish I could forget uee as the nappeun kicibae from you're beautiful but I can't.
Uee acting has improved since your are beautiful days. Check her out in Birdie buddy on either viki.com or mysoju.com and you will understand, that image is bound to be erased.
Ojakgyo Brothers has a great cast on the whole, not just the OTP. Storyline looks pretty good too, but I haven't watched it due to time constraints, but that's my pick.
There, now I feel better getting those two things out. I can sit back and enjoy everyone's comments!
But I also did want to share that Viki is re-subbing the Taiwanese drama Devil Beside You. I'm not quite sure why they are doing a re-sub on a hard English subbed copy, but the Español subbers are doing a great job. Then I thought that may be why they are doing it. But the video quality of the drama is the best I have seen it in!
I am looking for a HD quality stream of English
Subbed Gong Yoo and Gong Hyo Jin's Kdrama Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy. It seems that no one has a good copy. Also, I cannot find a good HD quality stream, let alone English Subbed of Rain and Gong Hyo Jin's Kdrama Sang Doo, Let's Go to School!
So, this is to the Korean "Powers that Be!" Please, would you get those puppies (above listed Kdramas) in HD quality streamed and English Subbed on YouTube, Hulu, Viki, Dramafever, Tudou, 56, youku, Speedy Joe, or Crunchyroll or some where else. If you have a strong desire to continue promoting the Hallyu Wave, get the good stuff available to the English speakers.
I apologize. Was that a bit too demanding? I think JB and GF would totally kill me, if I made such a request like that for a recap. :-) So, l hope that the Korean "Powers that be" take it as a hopeful suggestion and not a demand. :-)
*Worries all copies will be pulled from all websites and hidden in Korean media vault.* :-) :-) :-)
I'm sure the "powers that be" took it the right way, the way it was meant to be taken. :)
"*Worries all copies will be pulled from all websites and hidden in Korean media vault.*" LOL ! *imagines said korean media vault and wonders who gaurds it. Someone dressed as Chun with a black belt in Kendo?*
Yeah, I've been looking for Biscuit Teacher Star Candy for a while. Maybe it's too old for them to easily get it online in good quality. It's really easy these days to record something on a DVR and then upload it, but for older stuff it's probably more work to track down a copy.
Go to am-addiction and get the raw copy then download the subs separately.
You guys talk about old dramas so much I had to watch the ending.
Which is also the same reason I am on ep 8 of 9 Ins and 2 Outs. The reason of all you guys spazzing over it.Needed to see what the hype is all about :-)
I agree, MJP unnie. It's hard to ride a wave when the wave is pixelating beneath you...so to speak. I don't think it's too strongly worded. It's only to the Korean Powers That Be benefit to keep getting us hooked on their shows, which get us interested in their movies and the music divisions. ;)
hi, anybody maybe knows what happened to the site http://www.subpig.net? I would dl my Chinese subbed k-drama's and sometimes J-drama's there, but it is gone since about 2 weeks. :(
Has it been closed down like btchina?
The server was down and all datas are gone. But isn't the site up already? Only problem is they have not update the chinese-sub kdrama sub-forum yet... The J-dramas sub-forums r running well though.
yumeaki, thank you so very much for your reply. Glad to know, it is not gone.
There is a subpig.net, but it is an old one. The latest update on that one is 7 July 2010. So everything after that is missing. I will be patient. Thanks again for your reply :D.
Perhaps a bit of an odd question, but... what is up with the massive handheld microphones used in kdramas?
To clarify: it seems that whenever someone in a kdrama (those I've seen, at any rate) comes before a group of reporters, the character in question tends to be holding this large, clunky, somewhat spiky (mike-y?) microphone and I just... don't get why they don't use a smaller microphone.
Are they used because they're wireless? Are the little projections on top of the device antennae? Why are they so large and bulky?
Haha I think maybe it is used just for show or drama effect. Sort of like how many times people take the battery out of their phone (instead of pressing a button to turn it off) because it looks more dramatic on screen. Just an idea.
I have got to say, having someone finally explain the battery-out-of-phone thing really was helpful, although I think JB has explained it in the past as well.
I think the reporters tend to tape together a bunch of those black mics that look like walkie-talkies together so the person being interviewed is holding all of them together. My guess would be that it's for the best sound without having reporters crowd too close. Since the interviewer is holding it, there's also no need for a podium...so better portability?
This is basically the theory I had come up with. That you record the interview, or a bunch of interviews. And then the reporter doesn't need a sound guy as well as a cameraman.
Anyone also watching The Princess' Man at the moment ? I'm surprised it doesn't get as much attention on the net as in Korea. Alright, some episodes are a bit slow and the various developments a tad bit clichés, but I am still seriously enjoying the OST as well as Park Shi-hoo's performance. He NEVER ceases to amaze me when it comes to emoting or when it comes to playing those fighting scenes - he doesn't seem to have a stuntman in most of them. *dreamy*
I'm watching it! I don't why nobody is recapping and fangirling with this drama. It isn't perfectat all, but the OST is beautiful, scenary breathtaking, and... there's Park Shi-hoo. Oh, Park Shi-hoo is owning The Princess' Man!! His acting wasn't impressive in the beggining, but since his father was killed... OMG! He is pouring so much emotion in his body language and eyes and... everything. I can really feel his anger and thrist of revenge.
I was in and hooked the moment PSH's name became attached to the drama. Don't think it would reach its height if it wasn't for him. But PSH aside, the drama is dang beautiful. I love the angst, the rivalry, the rolling emotions of it all! TPM definitely deserves all the hype its been receiving. If you want more of it online, be sure to join us at soompi. :P
A couple of weeks ago I bought "My Girlfriend is an Agent" starring my 2nd honey KJH. Last night, hubby and I finally both had time to sit down to watch it. (I'd seen it before online). He LOVED it. I was a little disappointed that the timing on the subtitles was kind of bad, sometimes they weren't on long enough to read them. But, hubby is now a KJH and, of course, a Kim HaNeul fan. I'm thinking of introducing him to Hong Gil Dong or Coffee House.
This week I finished A Man's Story. Wow, what a great drama that was. DoWoo was SO creepy, what a great actor (his name escapes me) that guy is. And how sad about Park YongHa, I really liked him in this show, and didn't find out until it was nearly over that he had died. Suicide seems so prevalent there, is it really? Or does it just seem like it because of the dramas?
Busy this weekend with visiting family, a sick whiny teenager and church stuff, but I'll pop in and out. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
OMG!!! I finished watching Slingshot a few weeks ago and I never realized he was dead. Oh my so unexpected. Yes suicide seems to be prevalent not that I blame them as they work in very stressful environment and may suffer from depression. Slingshot is my fave non-saguek drama
The kind of creepy thing about his death was that it seems it was so like his character's brother in Slingshot. Way into debt (although probably not loansharks) and the main support for his whole family, plus a very sick father. If he was suffering from depression also, I can see why it happened. Its such a waste, especially knowing that we can treat depression, and very sad.
This is too creepy for words. I wonder how much lead actors get paid in dramas. I know Lee Seo Jin was getting paid $25k per episode in Yi San (77 eps), Rain got paid $50k per episode for Runaway Plan B (396k total). Unless they pay a hefty amount to their management they should be well off.
I just recently finished On Air.. it was boring.. but I love PYH in it... i have yet to watch A man's story and heard great thing about it... so i will probably marathon the drama soon.
I was shocked when I heard PYH had killed himself because of stress in life and most likely suffer from depression. He is a talented actor and sorry to see he ended his life that way...
Life can be stressful.. so everyone should stay strong and positive in life.
PYH's suicide was heartbreaking. I felt so sorry for his mother.
I heard Kim Jaejoong (PtB) was very close to PYH and wrote a song for him after his death called "In Heaven" and that it is the title song for JYJ's new album.
wasn't it amazing!! I mean a man's story. That is definitely in my top dramas list, I can't believe how poorly it did in ratings. After I watched it I became a big fan of park yong ha and wanted to watch all of his work and of course my maeumi apa but I see that the writer is responsible for what's up and I can expect interesting characters from her. Her older dramas don't really interest me.
Yes! On Mysoju.com is it called Sunshine Angel. I've only watched the first three episodes but I love everything Rainie Yang does! I'm looking forward to watching more once my school settles down.
yeah his taxes are part of his responsibility, but his accountants in charge of his tax-related issues are to blame!
WHY DOES HE HAVE TO LEAVE THE INDUSTRYYYYY because of this?!
So happy. Due to that huge blackout yesterday I have no class today which means that exam I didn't study for gets pushed to next week. I'm one lucky duck!
this just come to my mind at random , even if i love korean drama so munch i really cant stand the scene when one is prick and blood come out the other will suck it i find it gross and unsanitary ..... how about you ????
Ah ah, me too. There's so many things that gross me out in Korean dramas/movies, though I love them. Like when someone is drunk and grabs the toilet bowl to throw up in it. When that happens, I just can't focus on anything but the vision of... the hands... on the toilet... *cringes*
How about the fact that most of the time they never wash their hands after using the bathroom/urinal? Or they just rinse off with water?
There was a big discussion many OT's back and someone gave a really good link to the Korean bathroom facility reality.
Basically, bring everything with you when you go to the bathroom and expect to squat over a hole to pee or poop. Underwear/pants go down to the knees to keep them out of harms way while squatting.
Anyone is being killed by THE PRINCESS' MAN cliffhangers?
Gosh I love this show! It's my first historical drama since Sungkyunkwan (if you can call it historical). I just hate really cry at the end of drama like crazy because of sad ending. But TPM is so addicting I cannot resist. It's shows interesting image of strong, fearless young woman who will fight and will be ready to give up her live for people who are dear for her. I'm impressed by Moon Chae Won.
Started Dong Yi recently too and I quite like it:)Maybe I'll star PTB^^
I'm waiting to see if other sources come out besides allkpop for Hong Do leaving as they're not always....accurate we'll say. Crossing fingers! What really sucks is it more than likely isn't his fault but the accountants.
Otherwise I'm FINALLY going to be done with Flame of Desire after today. Only three more episodes then I'm sticking to short 16 - 20 ep dramas for a little while. Especially when I know I'll give New Giesang a shot. Goin' back in time for a classic (All In) and then a few modern ones.
Hi everybody. Happy Friday/Saturday! And a great Chuseok to everyone, too.
Has anyone ever seen the American movie called "Don't Tell Her It's Me" (or "The Boyfriend School")? It's from the late '80s/early '90s, and has some famous actors from the time whose names I'm blanking out on.
Anyway, the basic premise is that there's a young woman with bad luck in love/relationships, who meets a romance novelist with a brother who also has bad luck in love/relationships. This romance novelist decides that she'll make her brother into a romance novel hero, and bring him together with the young woman.
What I wonder is, could I do that with myself... make myself into a kdrama heroine, in my life? (No, I'm not Asian, but let's not quibble.)
Oh, it's an American movie "Don't Tell Me It's Her (1990) Starring Steve Gutenberg and Jamie Gertz.
IMDB Synopsis: Gus is a fat cartoonist that recently won a battle against cancer, which explains his baldness. But he is also lonely. Therefore, his caring sister tries to set him up with suitable woman. But to do so, she must turn him into an irresistible man. When he falls in love with Emily, Gus takes the identity of a mysterious biker from New Zealand.
Well, the twist here is that the cancerous cartoonist's sister is a romance novelist, and she is convinced that she knows the secret desires of women, and so can transform her (doofus-y and unattractive brother) into a hero every woman will love (which she does by following certain rules of the genre). And that's what intrigues me... could I follow some formula, and transform myself into a kdrama heroine?
Side comment: Jami Gertz is SO beautiful. She was the one in that vampire movie with Kiefer Sutherland, too, right? What was it called... Lost Boys?
My sympathies to you! That news about Khuntoria "divorcing" from WGM was really aggravating to hear. I love the show - I KNOW it's totally a rather silly premise and that it's fake and yadda, yadda, yadda.
But, really, I'd love to see a behind-the-scenes for this show.
Sadly, it was one of the reasons why I was looking forward to Greatest Love - because the original plot description had the drama based on the behind-the-scenes WGM premise. So I was really disappointed that it was totally ignored.
I'm shallow. I admit it. I WANT to see Nichkhun & Victoria hooking up. I simply can't see the year of them being together as only or mostly scripted. It's too obvious how much he likes her and right from the get-go they made a great couple. If my City Hunter can hook up with his NaNa, then they can, too! And Yonghwa and Seohyun. And the Lettuce Couple.
OMG - I totally need a life....my reaction here is on the sad side. :)
Happy Friday, everyone! I just started watching Material Queen and Buzzer Beat, both of which had great first episodes! The girl who plays Lin Chu Man is AMAZING!
PTB is just owning me with all of the Cha family & bromance awesomeness. I'm not sure how I feel about the extension because the writers are so well planned, but I hope they can work it out. I guess I should be happy I get more time with all the characters :P Definitely re-watching this series!
Ha ha ha ... this is where I say, "I told you so, I've been saying Lovers in Prague was a must-watch for the last two years, but would anybody listen?" Nope. It's alright, who wants a drama with a well-developed consistent plot, writing, characterization, and, oh, yeah, mature pointed themes that actually go somewhere and don't just spin off in the nethersphere??
And a cute, awkward younger Jang Geun Suk, to boot??
I'm so glad you loved it, and now you know why I love the four men from Lovers in Prague
Kim Joo Hyuk-Terroir/My Wife is Married/Couples/Fighting Spirit/et cetera,
Kim Min Joon-Romance Town/Friend Our Legend/Tazza/et cetera,
Jang Geun Suk-My Pet/Mary Stayed Out All Night/ Itaweon Murder Case/You're Beautiful, et cetera, et cetera)
as well as the lead actress, the best in K-entertainment, I think, Joon Do Yeon (you know, the Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner? Secret Sunshine/The Housemaid/My Dear Enemy/Untold Scandal/et cetera, et cetera). Sigh.
I also have to give a nod to one of my favorite k-ahjussi's, Jung Dong Hwan, ignore the giggle his name invokes, this veteran actor plays sweet to evil to sweet (you may be currently watching him in Scent of a Woman, he's the falsely accused teacher/mom's love interest) without missing a beat. He gives you a proper case of the shivers in Lovers in Prague.
Hi, MJP *HUGS* back, I'm rarely here, sorry, SO busy ... but had to chip in on the LIPrague (yes, I pronounce it lip-rog, almost like the Scottish malt) discussion ...... I'm a long-time fan of the drama.
How are you, sweet?? I haven't kept up and I feel so out of it!
Everything you say is true!
Soundtrack was really good.
Thanks for putting the rest of the cast up there. I didn't fangirl on Kim Joo Hyuk because that would tip my "current obsessions" into ridiculous territory.
There is another reversal of roles with the ahjussi's:
Jung Dong Hwan in LIP = meanie meanie
Jung Dong Hwan in SOaW = sweet sweet
Lee Jeong-gil in LIP = sweet sweet
Lee Jeong-gil in SOaW = meanie meanie
This is the grandfather in BOF and a bunch of other shows.
And, really, Jomo, is it possible to tip current obsessions into the ridiculous territory?
Do you remember my friend who spawned the Gu Junpyo term "Jump-yo?" She's bought 4 k-drama and a k-pop concert in three weeks' time and is contemplating two more ... and one k-man has jumped pace to pace with her Robert Downey, Jr. obsession of longterm status (sssoooo hooooott! she always says), and I think ridiculous territory doesn't even enter into the equation here at DB.
PTB is so hilarous and not at all slapstick. I really admire the writers. This is kdrama comedy at its finest. Spy MW might have gone that way, but alas, it caved to pressure and went a totally different way.
for lovers in prague, here's what I got from dramawiki. One thing I like is that the hero is not a chaebol.
"The president's daughter, Yoon Jae-hee (Jun Do-yeon) is a Korean diplomat in Prague. She has only recently recovered from a devastating break up five years earlier with Ji Young-woo (Kim Min-joon), the son of a prominent Korean businessman. Choi Sang-hyun (Kim Joo-hyuk) is a detective who goes to Prague searching for his ex-girlfriend Hye-joo (Yoon Se-ah). Hye-joo broke up with Sang-hyun over the phone from Prague and Sang-hyun can not accept it.
Sang-hyun meets Jae-hee in Prague and misunderstandings abound. Eventually the two help each other and become friends. When they return to Korea love blossoms, but their respective ex’s and very different social status put it to the test. "
Have headsets on, listening to the new JYJ release - it rocks! I've been totally impressed by Jae Joong's acting in Protect the Boss - he's surprisingly good and is bringing real life to his character. Yoochun did the same for Miss Ripley. These two boys are beyond talented - they're really doing a positive job in breaking down the prejudice against idols acting. I wonder if Junsu is ready to take his turn - his cameo in SOAW was sweet.
Was thinking about that post JB put up a week ago - the one about famous K-dramas being turned into musicals, the latest one being "Winter Sonata". The more I think about it, the harder it is to envision such a downer of a drama being put to music. Or maybe I just have a mental image of "Yonsamma" dancing and singing... how scary is that?! :)
It's finally sunny here on the East coast (USA) - we're in hurricane clean-up mode. Irene really did a number on us - didn't get power back until 2 days ago.
Fortunately, we were smart enough to buy a generator last year and re-circuited parts of the house to accommodate it. Had no idea that we'd ever need it for as long as we did this time. My primary concerns were the freezer and refrigerator (and toilets!). We're smack in the middle of the state, so we got the high winds and had several large trees come down on our 2 acres of woods. Lucky nothing hit the house. My biggest horror? No internet = no K-drama watching! But, it was a happy over-dose of catching up. I still haven't come up for air!
:)
Saw it - it's going to be terrific when they release the complete video. Ace JH always amazes me - I adore her on Running Man and yet, there's such a disconnect (for me) seeing her acting. Like in Goong. Had no idea it was her - and was that her in the Postman J-K movie with JaeJoong? Am too lazy to look it up - she was in A Frozen Flower, tho. How startling was that one?!
:)
Is anyone watching Hooray For Love? I started watching it up to episode 4. I like it so far. The heroine is the only thing that bugs me. She has husband blinders on and it's getting old. Does anyone know where I can find subs for episodes 5-16? All my usual sites are behind.
I started and watch up to ep 5 raw, and I'm liking it but they are so slow with the subs :(
I'm waiting for more episodes to be subbed so I dont have to wait forever for the episodes. http://popv.wordpress.com/ is posting recaps and when I find time I might actually read them
Kia ora (hope that's correct). I've just been posting All blacks support all over my fb and twitter accounts. My frenz think i'm nuts bt it's the passion. I'm nt even a kiwi. Tonga cm bac strong in the 2nd half bt the highlight for md was Sonny Bill Williams. The bad boy of kiwi rugby has a deft touch and some smooth passing skills. Nt forgetting that ubber ripped body of his i oogled at wen he removed his jumper (i'm nt a perve, it was jst there for the world to see). Spectacular opening ceremony. Only one team stands btwn us and the trophy-australia- bt we'll sweep them aside. Okay nw i'm jst yaking, time to end my ABs rave here.
Kia kaha
Yeah Sonny Bill is pretty much worth his weight in gold in NZ, most people love him. I haven't been following the rugby in the last few years, but I couldn't resist the lure of the World Cup.
And yeah, watching the AB's, you could tell they were in peak physical condition (i'm only being slightly pervy when I say that) - its really impressive. I just hope we don't drop out at the quarter finals again! After all the hype for this World Cup, it would be a total facepalm moment.
But yeah, I was hoping Tonga would at least get a try, because their fans were so strongly behind them - they brought a big procession over, and all over NZ people had the Tongan flags on cars and things, it was really cool. I think the team did them proud.
hi all! it's been a while, hasn't it? well, my baby e just turned 6 months this week. he's sitting, crawling, putting everything in his mouth, but no teeth yet. he has been teething and drooling all over the place since 4 months, so it's just a matter of time before those front teeth come in!
i'm no longer working, just doing the stay at home mom thing, and loving it!! i love all my days w/ my baby e. even today, running on 3 hrs of sleep because he's sick. running on fumes is so worth it to be home with my sweet baby.
dramawise, i finally got with the program and am watching Boys Over Flowers, and am really enjoying it.. even the repetitious evils done to Geum Jandi. next up: City Hunter.
and i see while i've been gone, a samsookie showed up again. i'll have to finish MNIKSS before he finishes the recap. LOL.
I have to confess, that I wasn't happy with BOF, too mean for my tastes and I didn't like Lee Min Ho in it and it's put me off him seriously.
I didn't like Cha Seung Won in Athena (because he was a bad guy) but I am so totally in love with his acting thanks to Best Love/The Greatest Love.
It's a definite no to Lee Min Ho! Plus, I've also read recently that he ignored Jang Geun Suk's attempt to become friends. These guys don't have many friends as it is, so don't you think that they would want to become friends with someone who is in the same line of work?
Oh, too funny! So LMH was afraid that JGS was hitting on him? I think anyone who's heard JGS's voice, and seen him act with women in dramas wouldn't doubt his ability to attract the opposite sex... of course, acting isn't everything -- do these young actors have any other reasons to question each others' sexuality?
I have to confess, that I wasn’t happy with BOF, too mean for my tastes and I didn’t like Lee Min Ho in it and it’s put me off him seriously.
Hooray, I'm not the only one who thought BOF was terribly mean and was not impressed with LMH. He's certainly no incentive to watch Personal Taste or City Hunter, not on his own. I'm still not sure what the pull was for that show. Secondary leads/romances? IDK.
I guess we disagree there. I thought BOF was a shitty drama, don't get me wrong, but I ADORED LMH in it. This noona (ajumma?) fell in love with him about the time he picked up Jan Di when the students were attacking her with flour and eggs and all that, and brought her to his house, and I've loved him ever since.
LOL Sethe! While I loved Jun Pyo's noble effort, I couldn't get past the fact that his childishness nearly got Jan Di killed on several occasions. Seriously, why the heck were they together?!? It's been a while, but I don't think that's the last time she got in deep doodoo b/c of something *he* did, or overreacted to. I almost feel like I need to rewatch it just so I can catch whatever that turning point was on her end, b/c it always felt like she was only into him b/c he wore her down with his obsession, not b/c of some genuine likeability on his part.
But, then again, you didn't say you loved BOF, but LMH. Maybe I should try Personal Taste so I can get Jun Pyo out of my head. (Also, I'll admit I don't find him attractive, so maybe none of the above is true and I'm just being shallow! lol!)
@Sethe...lol! Yes, human female who doesn't find LMH attractive. I could get into specifics, but there's no need. Except for the rare photoshoot where the lighting's just right and his hair's been flopped over his eyes just so...he don't do it for me. He's not unattractive. And he's immensely better looking w/o the Jun Pyo hair but, yeah, nothin'. Although his abs in the City Hunter stills were totally drool worthy, for sure--but ya can't stare at a man's abs all day. You'd bump into walls.
@MJP unnie...Oh unnie! *blushes* And you are a lovely, lovely woman. Though we've never seen you, we love you dearly, beautiful soul.
Well, okay... I can see how LMH looks a little dorky at times. And regarding BOF, I really couldn't see what was the slightest bit likable about either Jan-di or Jun-pyo. Why were they together? I certainly don't know... but sometimes I like to just turn off my brain and enjoy the cute.
I actually didn't like Lee Minho at first, I didn't find him attractive as well and I find him annoying in BOF.
But I gave a shot the PT because of the interesting premise, and until then I fell head over heels over in him. He's ridiculously gorgeous in that drama and the chemistry between him and Son Yejin is fantastic. Moreover, he is such a dork in the BTS of that drama.
ah! babies! aren't they fun at that age? It's good that you're with your baby full time at this stage. Mine got attached so much to my mother (I was working at that time) I was nothing more than a feeding bottle to her. Now ofcourse things are different.
Good for you! enjoy the 6 month stage! It was one of my fav. I hope your baby feels better soon.
Awww, so good to hear about your baby, lb_tmi! I hope you'll be able to stay at home with your wee one for as long as you want. My mom has always said she enjoyed her maternity leave, and recently my former coworker and friend loved it. I know she would have stayed out longer if she could have.
Okay, the place for this comment might be a political forum, but all the responses at those sites are partisan and predictable. So... I'm actually really interested in the thoughts of people who seem to be a pretty diverse group (common interest in kdramas aside) ...
Anyone following the 2012 US Presidential Republican race? I have opinions galore, and I'd love to hear yours.
Only that the media's purposely not giving enough attention to Ron Paul, the only one who actually answers his questions without sounding ignorant or evading them completely.
I keep thinking of some commentator who said that Ron Paul "wants us to be walking around with our pockets full of doubloons..."
To some extent, I admire people with principles (as long as I agree with them, right ;) ) but it terrifies me that one can be a serious candidate for leadership of one of the most powerful countries in the world today and have the scientific worldview of an Inquisitionist.
My only comment until I have time to sit down and read more about them is that there are too many candidates to keep track of. My son is joking about running, and he's a democrat!
This is a tricky question as I don't want to offend anybody as I have pretty strong opinions so all I will say is Jon Huntsman seems to be the only normal person in the race.
I was ashamed of my country when GWB "won" the election in 2000. I'm afraid I'm going to be even more ashamed in 2012...
The acid-tongued Bill Maher put it better than probably anyone else could when he compared Democrats to a disappointing friend and Republicans to a deadly enemy.
He said that there's a huge difference between a disappointing friend and a deadly enemy (and so on)... and in the US today, the Democrats may be a disappointing friend, but they're all that's standing between us and darkest night.
To be clear, I think that there are many Republicans who are smart and principled, and with whom I'd agree on many things. It's only that, at the top levels, the Republicans would rather destroy the country than see a Democrat succeed. And that, I think, is treasonous. (Look up Ben Bernanke/Rick Perry for "treason" reference.)
You are exactly right, they rather see the President fail rather than working together to make the country better. I also hate the fact that they pretend to be so religious to get the evangelical vote.
I can't believe people would even consider voting for him? Didn't he want to secede a few years ago, he doesn't want federal aid then he changes his mind, he calls Fed Chair treasonous and he keeps touting the 'Texas miracle' which is only full of low paying jobs (that families can hardly survive on).
I don't like how the candidates have to tear each other up during the Primaries trying to differentiate themselves, when they ususally believe in the same things.
I do like SNL, because they get a lot of material from the candidates.
Will Ferrell's George W. Bush was funny as hell, and I've certainly read some commentators who suggest that Tina Fey's portrayal of Sarah Palin unfortunately (for Palin) became identified with the real person in the minds of many people.
I haven't been watching SNL lately, but Rick Perry is just begging for an impersonation. "Rick Perry... GWB, without all the off-putting smarts."
Hey, Sethe! I'm a total political nerd. My thoughts on the republican "hopefuls".
Mitt Romney- Mostly gloss, little substance. I hope we (Americans) don't fall for it AGAIN.
Michelle Bachmann- No chance. Nice person, but I really think she is a better campaigner than leader.
Herman Caine- I question his ability to influence even his own party if he made it to the White House. He's never held public office before.
John Huntsman- Snort.
Rick Santorum- Double snort.
Rick Perry- At the debate (where he was picked on like a acne-ridden kid at supermodel camp) it came out that he wrote an executive order that involved parents having to OPT OUT if they didn't want their adolescent girls to get the HPV vaccine. I'm an RN and think that was simply ridiculous. I heard one too many questionable things about him...
Newt Gingrich- Is he for real? The poor guy doesn't know that he is so unlikeable.
Ron Paul- I personally love Ron Paul the most and visit his site almost daily. He's really old and all, but very sharp. Why I like him so much is that he wants to FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION. And he has a solid voting record. Plus, he wants to abolish the income tax. I'd rather pay a high flate tax on my purchases than have a huge chunk taken out before I ever see my money. And he wants us to stop policing the world and focus on our own problems.
As an international citizen of the world i thought
Michelle Bachmann= ( more nonsensical than Sarah Palin)
^ are people in the US seriously thinking of electing her :O
People will think worse of her than they thought of GWB and nobody liked him
They still trash him in my country because of Iraq so michelle bachmann would just be
Why do people hate on woman politicians so much? Even Hilary was made fun of when Bill cheated on HER. I'm not a particular fan of Palin or Bachmann, but they are the most often targeted for dumb jokes.
Well, Palin hasn't shown herself to be anything other than dumb. An egalitarian society should make fun of stupid women as much as stupid men, right? (The day that we have a major news outlet publishing an article entitled "Is Sarah Palin Dumb?", -- see the corresponding articles for Rick Perry -- we'll know we've achieved true equality.)
Bachmann... not sure if she's constitutionally stupid or just incapable of putting together thoughts to make new ideas, rather than just robotically repeating her talking points over and over.
Whatever you think of the Clintons, their intellectual capability was never questioned, I think. Despise her all you will, but a storyline that she's stupid would never fly with Hillary. Same with Nancy Pelosi. The jokes/attack lines are never that she's dumb; they're about power, and the fear of women in powerful positions (hee hee, no innuendo meant there about women in powerful positions...).
The whole storyline of why Republicans (male or female) are stupid, while Democrats generally aren't subject to that line of attack, is another story... maybe we'll get into that later ;)
but she supports the TEA PARTY
why should SHE be given a free pass because she is female????? and has had said so MANY things which to most people would highly questionable
Palin obviously isnt the brightest and graduated with a degree in in what? sports journalism.
I hope she can locate Russia on a map
to compare these two women to the educated and articulate Hilary Clinton is quite bizarre IMO.
I am! Though I have to admit, episode 9 kind of frustrated me. With the toy factory issue coming seemingly out of nowhere. And the confession, which took all episode long to finally (!!!) come out into the open. And it ended predictably sad too. After all that waiting! :/
And by the looks of it, there may be a time jump in episode 10. Me no likey time jumps unless done well and with a credible reason. :/
NichI know right? I love Nishikido Ryo. I loved him in Attention Please and also Ryusei no Kizuna (with the awesomeness of Nino-kun), but I loved how his character in Zenkai Girl is so not the cold guy type. And he does the hotness like no one can. So cute. I swear I just spazz watching him interact with Wakaba. This jdorama reminded me about why I love jdorama (aside from the underdog themes, the life lessons, and the funny) and that's the fast paced interaction. The funny, speedy exchange of words just kills me (in a good way) everytime. Cute cute cute.
How is everyone? I didn't manage to join in the fun last week because I was stuck on a plane.
It seems that Protect the Boss is getting a two-episodes extension. Hmm, I don't know about that. I generally disapproves of extensions especially on marvelous dramas like PtB. I worry about the dynamics of the drama. I trust in the writers to fill in the blanks the size of two episodes but somehow... Oh well, let's just cross our fingers and hope that the writers do not screw up.
It's possible that we might get two episodes of happy instead of the usual 10 minutes at the end of the drama. such a thing is possible, I know I've seen it done.
I haven't seen it yet, Shiku. I may need the whole weekend to watch it several times.
The first couple of times to ogle my wife, then the rest to find some meaning behind it. Yunno, so I don't sound shallow when people ask me about it.
@RTRH~ I agree that your wifey is "freaking cute" but, pray tell, just how does one spazz in a manly way? (*chuckles while trying to imagine it*) It's great to have you back, Your Highness.
Bwa Ha Ha *buttocks vibrate*
I NEVER expected your question, anotheradddict!
I guess less hip movements and more eye-widening, saliva-gulping and temperature-rising? LOL I don't know. I have to record myself watching Yo In Na to find out, I guess.
No. It is not good. In fact, Yoo In Na is the best thing about that movie, but it is a stinker. I can see how it probably brought in viewers because of the star power of the line up, but unless you are watching for that reason, I'd give it a big avoid like the plague.
Now, granted my taste in movies may not match with anyone else within hearing distance, seeing as how I'm insanely fond of Duelist, Guns and Talks and my favorite movie in any language is Local Hero, but I was actually in the mood for a chick flick and couldn't stand Little Black Dress. Hated it. With a passion.
My kingdom is getting warmer during the day and dreadfully colder at night. I can't stand the indecisiveness of nature! The people are peachy pink though, so that's good.
The flight was dull. Two hours of intense boredom and magazine-browsing. At least there were no delays and frightening turbulence.
Exam period is STILL in progress. A few more trial examinations before the real thing starts. It's going to be one hectic semester!
Unfortunately, I doubt it - especially in the music industry, nothing will change because there are too many desperate wannabees out there willing to do anything to give themselves an advantage.
It would take the formation of a really strong union, with mandatory membership, to effect any change. Look what even the top stars are forced to do - Kim Sun Ah, for example, a top star and CF queen, who fainted on set the other week (she was given a "night off" to recuperate) and is portraying a dying woman with, I swear, no makeup effects at all - anything for the job, anything to stay competitive.

*Shame?*

All is fair in love and war! But it's not just that. The brother has passed away for a long time. And in some cultures (Not sure if its in korean culture though) its perfectly fine to marry your brother's widow. Infact some consider it the duty of the brother, if he's single, to do so.

I’m worried PTB may spoil me for future dramas!

It gives me a happy feeling similar to when I watched PTB (though PTB is #1 for me right now!) Been tired of the tw-dramas that were released these past two years not matter how big the fandom, and Office Girls brought me out of the slump!

Have a great weekend, Ricky!

I went to college with a "ricki val"+surname. We were in a singing group together, and he was the President. We got a thank you note from a retirement home address to "Miss Ricki Val Surname". Boy was he ticked....I told him to go give his mother grief for giving him a girl's name.

September 9, 2011 at 7:21 PM
Before I met Your Royal Highness, the association I had to the name "Ricky" was really only this old ('80s?) song about some dude named Ricky. ("Oh, Ricky, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Ricky...) I don't really know what the song was about (roller skating?) and I only mention it here because there's a line in it that I actually really love... "you take me by the heart when you take me by the hand..."
A cheesy line in a cheesy song, maybe, but I adore it.
Sethe
September 9, 2011 at 9:20 PM
Oh, do I feel stupid! I guess the "Ricky" I was talking about in my song was actually "Mickey." I'm old enough to have heard these cultural references from the '80s and early '90s, vaguely, but not old enough to fix all of them into place.
ricky the royal highness
September 11, 2011 at 2:05 AM
Shel,
I don't know.

I saw L in Paris first, barely made my way through it because of her face and her damp damp eyes. OMG, I wish I could erase that image from my brain.
So I didn't expect much from Prague; there is no way I can watch just Lovers, because her face and her eyes are in that, too.
I am sad to say that the men are not real in any world I live in, but I still enjoyed pretending. But it is really funny, too.

Re: MUKAI OSAMU
I'm not sure how to explain it.

"post dramatic stress disorder " lol!
well, nothing is confirmed.

Hi beautiful people!!

I understand about the lack of subs. There are only so many subbers and with school back on in the USA (and possibly everywhere else) they have less time to do things. The all of the J/K/T dramas are going through the same thing, I've noticed. They will eventually get them done. I just watch the shows raw and wait for the subs.

This post is regarding something I read a couple of weeks ago.
Eunhyuk of Super Junior mentioned on Sukira that he was considering getting plastic surgery.

*wonders*

Haha I think maybe it is used just for show or drama effect. Sort of like how many times people take the battery out of their phone (instead of pressing a button to turn it off) because it looks more dramatic on screen. Just an idea.

*dreamy*

Oh, Park Shi-hoo is owning The Princess' Man!! His acting wasn't impressive in the beggining, but since his father was killed... OMG!

(Ha Jung Woo-The Chaser/My Dear Enemy/Yellow Sea/H.I.T./et cetera,
Kim Joo Hyuk-Terroir/My Wife is Married/Couples/Fighting Spirit/et cetera,
Kim Min Joon-Romance Town/Friend Our Legend/Tazza/et cetera,
Jang Geun Suk-My Pet/Mary Stayed Out All Night/ Itaweon Murder Case/You're Beautiful, et cetera, et cetera)
as well as the lead actress, the best in K-entertainment, I think, Joon Do Yeon (you know, the Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner? Secret Sunshine/The Housemaid/My Dear Enemy/Untold Scandal/et cetera, et cetera). Sigh.
I also have to give a nod to one of my favorite k-ahjussi's, Jung Dong Hwan, ignore the giggle his name invokes, this veteran actor plays sweet to evil to sweet (you may be currently watching him in Scent of a Woman, he's the falsely accused teacher/mom's love interest) without missing a beat.

Good Friday morning, DBers!

I have a soft spot for Tonga, but knew my ALL BLACKS were going to win .......
the worst of it is being in The States and waiting and waiting .... and not seeing news feeds with the results before watching the match.
Being a rugby fan happily prepared me for being a k-drama addict, LOL!

Hehe, Yay! AB fan! Kia ora! lol

LOL.

Great to read your comments again!
Good to hear the baby is doing well.

Personal Taste was a CUTE drama.
