Thousand Day Promise’s poster and trailer

javabeans: I love that the poster tells you the basic conflict of the whole drama, in one glance. Not in a “well, now I don’t have to watch it” way, but in a “ooh, immediate shock to the heart” way.

girlfriday: Yeah, and visually, not with a super explanatory tagline.

javabeans: There’s barely anything in that trailer at all (it being so short and all), but already I’m really looking forward to the acting. My heart may just break along with Kim Rae-won’s.

girlfriday: I love the conflict of it. Not amnesia (which is lame) but knowing that you’re about to lose your memory and the struggle to somehow hold onto everything and make new memories, despite the fact that it’ll all fade anyway.

javabeans: *sob*

girlfriday: It so speaks to the tragedy lover in me. Not the super heavy stuff, but the Fate vs. Love thing.

javabeans: Normally it’s exactly the type of melotragica that I’d steer way clear of, but I just have such hopes/faith in writer Kim Soo-hyun. Didja hear? She’s done with scripts for 14 episodes now.

girlfriday: You mean, like how it SHOULD BE? Gah, it’s crazy how rare that is. Yay for her.

javabeans: I think it’s batshit insane, but on the other hand, I do see the crazed logic of the broken system, where all the pre-productions have flopped.

girlfriday: Oh like your OCD brain could handle that for like… a second? Can you imagine if some PD was like, “Don’t write the ending?” You’d break out into hives. I would.

javabeans: I’d just pretend it wasn’t written yet, and manipulate him with my secret voodoo powers into thinking my ending is the one he came up with. Or, I guess, you could just be famous, reliable, and awesome like Kim Soo-hyun.

girlfriday: Yeah, that takes years. I’d go with hoodoo.

javabeans: Which is good, because that’s what it’s gonna take to hold me together till the end of this drama. I can just feel it.

girlfriday: Most melodramas aren’t really sad to me. They’re just… super dramatic. But this one is going to be SO SAD.

javabeans: Yeah, most of the time melodramatic = angsty = frustration to me. I just want Su Ae to remember him! Why can’t she remember him?!

girlfriday: Gah, it’s like that episode of Angel where Buffy comes to town and he turns human.

javabeans: Oh no! And they have one perfect day, which she then forgets? Arrrrrgh.

girlfriday: Yeah he tells her what he’s going to do, like seconds before he has to wipe her memory, and she’s like, “I won’t forget! I won’t forget!” *puddle*

javabeans: It’s her conviction that’s so tragic. Because everything in HER control is determined to remember…but that choice is out of her hands.

girlfriday: YES! And that’s what this drama is going to be…. the ENTIRE time!

javabeans: Is it October 17 yet?

girlfriday: Where’s that damned fast forward button?

javabeans: The fourth dimension ate it.

girlfriday: Fuck.

I totally remember that Angel and Buffy episode! I bawled my eyes out and couldn't get over it for a week. LOL.

Oh, this drama is going to get me. Maybe I'll just stay tune for the recaps on here and see how heartbreaking it is before I make the commitment.

Regarding the poster, oh the pretty! But why so tragic, show?!

I remember that episode too! Angel was such a beautifully crafted vampire.
The 90s Edward? haha

I love how everyone is on the same page here...I mean, Angel even did STALKING better. If your gonna stalk, be an insane bloodthirsty badass with a gypsy curse... not an angsty, 100year old perpetual teen. Shesh.

Edward's a joke. I could not finish the book when I got to the part where he's shimmering in the sunlight. WTH? Seriously.

Gimme some Lestat STAT!

It's funny. When I first read Interview with a Vampire, I was all gaga for sensitive, tortured Louis (I was probably not yet 16yo, blame it on angsty teen hormones). Then, I reread it recently, and I just wanted Louis to just shut up and BE a vampire. Even in between all of Louis's self-righteous condescension toward Lestat, I found myself in agreement with Lestat.

The point being - Louis as precursor to Edward, but even Louis is better than Edward, who doesn't deserve that name. Edward Rochester, self-absorbed though he may be, is a downright crazy hoot!

Angel is a master vampire -- direct descendant of The Master from his sire Darla.

Edward is a wimpy Maybelline commercial. There's no comparison.

I totally did the same thing hopes and then I downloaded the episode and I played it over and over (I think I was trying to exorcise it to end in a different way - like maybe Buffy just remembers all of it). Anyway, definitely looking forward to this drama.

Not sure I can keep watching the melodramas T__T .......

Heh, Scent of a Woman wasn't even a real melo. iirc, it wasn't really marketed as one either. If you had a hard time getting through SOAW, you might want to skip this one. Seems like it's going to hit in all the sad, emotional places. And it won't just be tears of frustration and angst.

Sigh, I want to watch, but this is close to when I have my first term exams. I have to be able to see when I take those exams. Swollen-shut eyes won't help D:. I'd be all "Mass times acceleration, mass times... omg why won't she remember him!!!!! WHY!"

Hhhmmm... a melodrama huh? and with Su Ae in it? it will totally going melo all the way long. The story and plot kind of remind me of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie "50 first date", but have it in a kdrama melodrama's way will be full of angst, I suppose. I'm not really have a thing for melodrama specially made in kdrama, it just too tragic and full of tears. But with Kim Rae Won and Su Ae, I'm sure going to give it try.
Should we prepare a bucket before the first episode premiere? Just in case someone can't handle a non-stop tears.. hehehhh :D

I too thought of 50 first dates. But I think the difference here other than the comedy is that they know each other before she starts losing her memory and even they both know she won't remember they still love each other and spend time together. In a frame it's just like the scene where he's standing there but she can't touch him. Like the moment of nominal aphasia "tip of the tongue". I think it will be soo satisfying in a frustrating way.

I thought exactly the same. The plot reminds me of that movie, i love how it ended. IT's like, ok things are horribly bad but i can make the most of it. I love dramas that can do that, and it's not only love. They really go beyond the relationship, they enahance the person too.

I don't know which is worst, if knowing a loved one and starting to forget him/ her....or don't even remember meeting that person U.U

It seems I can't shake an unfulfilled love story from my head, it hunts me forever and the characters become permanent resident in my mind with all the what ifs. They make me want to name my future child after them, it’s the least I can do for them*sydneycartonsydneycarton*

But I love a good damn story to cry to *crossed fingers for this one* Thank You.

OMG!!! Me too! A Tale of Two Cities made me cry my eyes out for hours. And I still feel the sadness when I think about Sydney dying and I read the book more than ten years ago.

I have a feeling that I'm going to end up sobbing for hours on this one. Plus remembering snippets of it randomly for years after that and bursting into tears.

This is going to be AWESOME! Great writer. Great actor and actress. What a trifecta!

Does anyone else find Su-Ae's voice the sexiest thing evah? How does anyone around her get anything done? I imagine they'd all turn into a puddle the moment she utters a syllable.

Me, me! I'd kill to have her voice.

BTW, what's with PSH's voice in The Princess's Man since angst and Mane of Glory were added to his hot equation? It's gotten really, really deep. (I'm assuming you're the same anais that I know on TP.)

Hi Thundie! :)
Oui, c'est moi.

As for PSH's voice, right? I'd love to ask him how he feels using that voice. Does he find himself using that voice off set, that is, if he's had a chance to be off set. Is it coming naturally to him now that he's used it for quite some time? Or is it still something he must employ consciously. HUSKY...

Anyhow, I fall for great voices all the time. Wasn't the least bit interested in Jang Geun Seok til that voice came out of his not-yet-a-man body.

Conversely, bad voices kill it for me. Oh Ji Ho - his voice does not go with his bod.

Anyhoo, totally off track now. :)

The poster has that DAMN tree.
Why do artistic types want to kill me with a tree?

Don't laugh at me, but my first tree heartbreak was with Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. They sat in the damn tree and CR was talking about going away to school. (gulp) and Pooh was like, "Don't forget me, CR."

Then, THIS comes out of Pooh's mouth and I am sobbing:
“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.”

“Promise me you'll never forget me because if I thought you would I'd never leave.”

“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. i'll always be with you.”

Bring it on, Damn Tree! You will be trying to kill me and I can't wait!

While one of my best friends (also known as little sister I never had or wanted haha) asks for drama recs, she always has to mention I need to "Skip the melodrama recs because you want a ton of them!" I never noticed until she said so. This calls to my melo-wanting, along with the cast and writer, not to mention pre-production potential. Just...ahhhh I fear for bawling my eyes out. Might just cross my fingers for recaps before thinking about diving into this.
